Our guides are locals who have spent years exploring their beautiful city and know all the best spots to check out. They’ll take you on semi-private tours of a maximum of 6 people (or private tours), so you won’t feel rushed or overwhelmed by crowds. We offer guided tours in a maximum of 6 people group, so you can be sure that everyone gets a chance to ask questions and get answers from someone whose life is centered around Florence! Florence is a city in Central Italy with a rich history and culture. It was once one of the wealthiest cities in Europe during medieval times, and it was a center of trade and finance. Florence is also known as the birthplace of the Renaissance, a period of significant artistic, cultural, commercial, political, economic, and financial development. Florence became a major center for art, architecture, literature, science, and philosophy. The city was built on the site of an Etruscan settlement and the later ancient Roman colony of Florentia (founded in 59 BC). The Tuscan city became a symbol of the Renaissance during the early Medici period (between the 15th and 16th centuries), reaching extraordinary economic and cultural development levels. Florence is known for its art, architecture, museums, galleries, churches, palaces, and other landmarks.

You’ll hear fascinating stories of Florence’s history as you take in sites such as the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, and Piazza della Signoria. Of course, no trip to Florence is complete without seeing the iconic Statue of David, and you’ll have skip-the-line Accademia Gallery tickets to witness Michelangelo’s masterpiece!

Florence Private Walking Tour with Michelangelo's David

  • SKIP THE LINE
  • A perfect introduction to Florence
  • Accademia and Statue of David
  • The Duomo and Brunelleschi's Dome
  • Baptistry Doors
  • Florentine gelato
  • Piazza della Signoria
  • The Bronze Boar fountain
  • Ponte Vecchio bridge
  • Orsanmichele Church
  • Dante's District
  • Dante's Church

Your friendly private guide will meet you at your hotel or another meeting point in central Florence, and you'll enjoy a short stroll to the popular Accademia Gallery. The main admission line here can be incredibly long at times, but your skip-the-line ticket lets you get inside much more quickly. Your guide will lead you through the gallery, telling stories of its history and the famous artwork housed here—the most famous being Michelangelo's David . Afterwards, you'll begin your private walking tour through the city.

Your guide will lead you through Florence at a pace that suits you, taking in iconic sites including the Florence Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, and Ponte Vecchio. Along the way, learn the fascinating history of Florence and gain local insights that'll help you make the most of your time in this beautiful city. This private tour also gives you the flexibility to make the tour your own, so if there's something special you want to see then just let your guide know and they'll do their best to make it happen!

Private Florence Walking Tour Description

Your 3-hour Florence walking tour includes:

Skip-the-line Accademia tickets with statue of David

A tailored private walking tour of Florence's highlights

See the Florence leather market, Dante’s district, Ponte Vecchio, and more!

Stop for a tasty local gelato (not included)

Knowledgeable English-speaking private guide

The Accademia Gallery

After a short stroll through the city with your guide, your private tour begins with skip-the-line entry to the Galleria dell'Accademia. Aside from the Uffizi Gallery, the Accademia Gallery is the most-visited museum in Florence. This means that long lines to get inside are common. Luckily, we reserve your Accademia tickets ahead of time, meaning that the only line you'll stand in is the much shorter security line.

Your guide is an expert in bringing the gallery's masterpieces and exhibits to life with entertaining stories about their history and meaning, and they'll help you connect more closely with the stunning artwork you'll see inside, including the most famous piece of all, the statue of David .

Short delays at the security check may occur during the busiest months, June and July. However, our team of experts works to prevent delays as much as possible.

Michelangelo's Statue of David

When you enter the gallery in which the iconic statue of David stands, you'll immediately notice his height, smooth surface, and famously determined expression which reflects the moments before David went into battle with Goliath in the famous biblical tale.

As you enjoy your moment with this world-famous piece, your guide will explain how Michelangelo heroically carved this masterpiece out of a block of carrara marble that no other artist wanted to touch. Make sure you take a good look at David's hands and feet! They're out of proportion because David was supposed to be placed on top of the Florence Duomo.

The Duomo of Florence - Exterior

Your private walking tour continues towards another of Florence's most famous sites. This iconic Duomo is Florence's most recognized landmark, located in the heart of Florence's historical center. Florence's cathedral towers over the city and is topped by a magnificent Renaissance dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. Your guide will take you around the outside of this incredible structure, and you'll learn the amazing story of its construction, which began over 800 years ago. You'll also get a closer look at the famed bronze Baptistry Doors.

Piazza della Signoria and the Medici Family

Filled with statues, fountains and beautiful architecture, Piazza della Signoria is the historical and emotional heart of Florence. The most prominent feature of the piazza is Florence’s town hall, the Palazzo Vecchio—once home to the powerful Medici family. Admire the Loggia dei Lanzi and the beautiful exterior corridors of the Uffizi Museum as you learn about the Medici family’s deep impact on the history of Florence, Italy, and the Renaissance movement.

Hidden Gems of Florence

Your walking tour isn't only about world-famous galleries and landmarks. Your guide will also show you some of the city's lesser-known gems, including the beautiful Orsanmichele Church, the ancient leather market, and the popular Bronze Boar fountain. You'll even stroll past one of our favorite local gelato shops where you can buy yourself a refreshing treat. Get to know more of Florence with the insights of your local guide!

Dante's District and Church

Your private tour continues past the original house where Dante grew up, now converted into a museum. Plus, see the little church of Santa Margherita. It's said that this is where Dante and Beatrice fell in love. Dante writes about Beatrice in his most famous work, The Divine Comedy.

The Jewelers of Ponte Vecchio Bridge

Ponte Vecchio means “old bridge” in Italian, and it's appropriately named. Merchant shops have lined this famed bridge since the 13th century. Originally, the shops included fishmongers, butchers, and tanners, however these particular goods caused such a stench in the area that Ferdinand I proclaimed in 1593 that only jewelers were allowed to sell on the bridge. You'll feel as if you've stepped back in time as you stroll around this historic part of Florence.

Florence Tour Guide - Mila L.

Hi! I am a licensed Tour Guide of Florence and its district, with a M.A. in English and French Literatureo. I have been working for over 30 years in Tourism, also as an International Tour Manager, organizing and guiding customized tours for English and Spanish speaking guests. All my tours are private and LGBTQ friendly. It would be fantastic to become one of your guides.

Florence Tour Guide - Eva G.

Hi, I'm Eva! I've been living in Florence since 2012 and I've become a professional licensed tour guide in 2016, since then I did a lot of private tours around Florence and in Tuscany, working with families and small groups of friends. I'm still very curious and constantly learning new things about local history and artists, and Florence always gives you an opportunity to discover something interesting. I'm in love with my city and I live quite an active life, so I can tell you a lot of things not only about history, but also about modern life of Florence. During pandemic period I have finished the Wine Courses, so now I'm also professional sommelier, working in wine industry, and I can share my experience with you. We also have a nice wine cellar in the city center, where you can join one of our wine-tasting evenings. My concept of exploring Italy is doing it with taste and style. So during our tour we will have no rush and you will have an opportunity to really enjoy Italian style of life. Yes, I give a lot of historical information, but I'm very flexible and I always put your needs and wishes at the first place. So every tour is adopted to the client's preferences.

Florence Tour Guide - Simona T.

I started riding by chance when I was about 20, I never stopped and enjoyed show jumping, cross country and the country trail riding with my horses. Today it is my life and I share my experience and my emotions on horseback with my guests and in the beauty, the history and the flavors of the Tuscan hilly countryside surrounding Florence.

“ Extremely knowledgable and flexible specialist in Florence and Tuscany ”

I would recommend Manolis to any American desiring to get the most out of a trip to Florence and Tuscany. He is a native English speaker, so no accent, but has lived and studied in Florence for many years. We wanted to get out of Florence for a few days, and Manolis not only designed a tour, but found us a driver who was almost as wonderful as he. He was a wonderful leader to our family group, which included young adults visiting for the first time. Prior to our visit, he worked extra hard to recommend hotels and thought about how the tours would go. Our 3 days included a half-day tour of the Uffizi which he personally guided and made the museum reservations for us. We spent an additional two days visiting cities outside Florence, including Siena, Pisa and San Gimignano. He recommended a few additions which turned out to be the highlight of our tour. I would work with him again in a minute.

Dina V.

Thank you for your kind appreciation. It was a pleasure for me to be your guide. I’m lucky you sought me and I’m privileged to be showing such lovely places. Stay safe.

Florence private Walking Tour overview

Florence is an open-air museum: walking through the small streets of the Medieval city, more often than you think, suddenly a large square opens in front of you showing a wonder of history and architecture, a statue, a fountain and so on. Unlike other historical cities, Florence has a very small city center, where all the attractions are concentrated. a  Florence private Walking Tour is the best tour to start your visit to Florence. There is one thing you can’t miss: Michelangelo’s David , inside the Accademia Gallery; with Florence Walking Tour you will satisfy your curiosities about the huge statue.

Florence Walking Tour tour starts in Piazza Santa Croce , in front of the Gothic Basilica. We will speak about the facade of the church and the various destinations of the square, moving on to Borgo de Greci, a small street where you will be surprised to know that you are walking in an ancient Roman amphitheater, where gladiators fought for their life and Christians were tortured. After admiring the place where Leonardo da Vinci painted his famous Mona Lisa, we will move to Piazza Della Signoria , the political center of Florence, filed with huge statues made to celebrate the Medici family. You will see Palazzo Vecchio , the Duke’s Palace but also the place where illustrious citizens, including a Medici, were imprisoned, where the Archbishop of Pisa was left hanging and where Savonarola was burned at stake.

The tour approaches the Uffizi building and Ponte Vecchio , the ancient bridge on the river Arno, filled with jewelries and crossed by the private passage of the Medici: the Vasari Corridor. You will see the damage Florence suffered during World War II before getting to the Loggia del Porcellino and to the church of Orsanmichele, a place dense with history where art, religion, money and power are inextricably connected. We will visit Piazza Della Repubblica , the ancient heart of Florence, to follow up with the Duomo complex, the religious center of the city, admiring wonders like Giotto’s Bell Tower and Brunelleschi’s Dome and entering the huge church to see the largest fresco ever made.

In the final stage of the tour, we will visit the Accademia Gallery , to see Michelangelo’s David, talking about the symbology of the statue and where it connects to the history of Florence.

  • Palazzo Vecchio
  • Uffizi building

Tour features

tour schedule, additional info, how is our florence private walking tour different, private tour.

First of all, it’s a private Florence Walking Tour . You won’t join any large or small group of tourists, it’s meant for you, your family and/or your friends. The Florence Tour Guide will be at your service for the duration of the tour, assisting you in buying skip the line tickets for the Accademia and explaining you whatever you want to know.

A classic tour… but different

Our Florence Walking Tour is not a rush through the highlights of the city, which is what most agencies and tour operators offer. If you want to check boxes on your list of attractions to mean “done”, probably this is not for you. We provide insider information, explain in detail the history of the buildings and we are available for any deviation from the standard path, not only to see different things but also to do different things; why not eat an ice cream, for example?

Is our Florence Walking Tour expensive for you? Any agency will price a private 3 hours Florence Walking Tour no less than € 400. Here you can hire directly a local genuine Florence Tour Guide, so you save any agency or middlemen fees, which means paying up to 60% less. The tour is certainly expensive if you travel alone, but it’s as low as € 56/person for a family of five , and if you travel with another family of friends, it gets even lower: much less than any 3-hour Florence Day Tour offered online and much better than any shared group tour.

Don’t Delay: Pre-Book A private Tour And See All The Highlights Of Florence

When booking a holiday, it is always a good idea to ensure that you have secured your accommodation and your flights. To this to do list, you can definitely add: booking a private guided tour. We provide superb private tours of Florence. Our tours are very popular so make sure to pre-book your tours as soon as possible so that you can enjoy this unmissable experience.

The highlights of Florence

It would be hard to find a city that is more packed with art and culture than Florence. From the majestic Duomo cathedral to the beautiful Uffizi gallery, and from the elegant and very romantic Ponte Vecchio to the Renaissance splendour of the very streets themselves, it seems that wherever you turn there are amazing buildings, galleries and statues to discover. But, in Florence, it is important to know where to look. Without a guide to show you where the main highlights are – and to reveal some of the city’s hidden gems too – you might find yourself blithely walking past sites of immense cultural and historical interest without even realising what they are. In short, the very best way to see all of the highlights of Florence is most certainly with a guide.

florence private walking tour

Why book a tour with us? Because we get you to all of the best places!

One key reason to book one of our tours is that we ensure that you get the full Florence experience, seeing all of the main buildings and points of interest that there are to see and getting inside cathedrals, galleries and more. After a tour with us, you will feel like you have really got to know the city in a way that you quite simply could not were you walking around Florence by yourself? So, what will you see with our walking tours of Florence Italy?

With our private walking tours we take you right into the heart of the city and make sure that you do not miss any of the highlights of Florence. Key highlights that you get to see on our walking tours include the Duomo (and here, we actually take you inside the cathedral itself; the cost of this visit is included in the cost of the tour overall) , the Piazza della Signoria and the Ponte Vecchio to name but a few! This standard Florence private tour takes three hours, but you will also see the famous Accademia Gallery. The Accademia is a real heaven of wonderful works of art and a place that you will remember for the rest of your life. For example, here you can see Michelangelo’s original sculpture of David. To make things even easier for you, we include queue jump tickets to the Accademia in the cost of your three hour tour. So there will be no waiting around: you can go straight from highlight to highlight!

florence highlights tour

A private walking tour of Florence with exceptional prices

Another reason why choosing us as your Florence walking tour company is a good idea is that we offer excellent prices. Our private tours of Florence are ideal for groups of families or small art groups who want to see the city’s main cultural and historical attractions.

These prices are even more attractive when you consider all of the things that they encompass such as a tour inside the Duomo and a skip the queue ticket to the world famous Accademia. With our tours, for example, you find yourself paying just € 60 per hour – a truly budget friendly option. So why not snap up some tickets right now?

We manage to keep our prices so low because we make sure that the only place that tourists can buy their tours is through us. We will never let agencies or other middle men over inflate our prices. We are dedicated to keeping them consistently low all through the year.

florence private walking tours

The benefits of our private tours

Here, it is worth saying a word or two about why it is preferable to choose our tours, which are private, compared to other tours – which typically have maximum group sizes of around 25 in Florence. The private Florence tours that we offer make touring a much more enjoyable experience, as you get a much more personalised tour. Private tours are  more intimate and they also make it easier for you to ask questions and discuss things with the guide.

Our excellent guides make our tours stand out from the crowd

Our guides have to be one of the biggest selling points of our tours. They are all full licensed Florentine locals and all of them have had to study hard in order to pass an exam in local history and culture in order to be accepted to work for us. In fluent English, our guides bring the tour to life with their local knowledge and their ability to relate all of the attractions that you visit to the history and culture of Florence. For example, our guides will explain the intriguing lives of the powerful Medicis, and also tell you funny anecdotes and curious tales about the churches, palaces and other buildings that you will pass on the streets of Florence. If you opt to enter the Accademia, moreover, your guide will explain to you how this statue relates to the biography of Michelangelo and also reveal some hidden meanings of both David and some of the other statues.

Regular tours, to suit your schedule

We operate very regular tours, so you are sure to be able to book one that fits in perfectly for your schedule for your time in Florence. We want you to be able to enhance your holiday by learning more about this wonderful city, so we offer tours on a frequent basis. These tours are very popular, though, as we have already mentioned – so it is highly advisable to book yourself a tour as soon as you can.

Why wait any longer? Pre book your tour today!

As you can see from the above, there are so many reasons to book a tour with us. Our guides are second to none, our prices are brilliantly competitive and the number of attractions that you will get to see is breathtaking. Add to that queue jump tickets and smaller group sizes than other walking tours in Florence and you have the recipe for a perfect afternoon out. Pre booking now will ensure that you have our private tours to look forward to when you arrive in Italy.

Booking your tour is so easy!

We have made it very simple to make a booking with us – it really does just take a few moments to wrap up that order and secure your spot for one of the most memorable walking tours of your life. So, what are you waiting for? Head on over to our booking widget, select the date and time that you want to start and make a booking. Then you can sit back and relax – or perhaps dust off those walking shoes in readiness for your tour.

Best Walking Tours in Florence

Top walking tours in florence.

Florence is easily one of the most recognizable places in Italy for tourists . The capital of the picturesque region of Tuscany , Florence has been important as early as the medieval times. Today, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a highly touristy place with millions of visitors a year! And the throngs of tourists have a good reason, too.

At each turn, Florence offers an interesting piece of art and architecture that represents its deep history. As a haven of the arts, Florence is best explored on foot. This guide puts together some of the best walking tours in Florence you can have in the city. It’ll allow you an easy route to some of the greatest sights Florence has to offer.

Florence: Walking Tour

This tour’s unassuming name belies its perfect introduction to the tourist hive that is Florence. This takes tourists through some of the city’s most iconic sights, starting with the cathedral (Duomo) and the Baptistery of St. John. This side of Florence also includes the Sta. Maria del Fiore and its adjacent Giotto Bell Tower.

Another famous landmark (and influential art piece) the tour visits is the David sculpture by Michelangelo. Located at the Piazza della Signoria , this is also in the neighborhood of the Ponte Vecchio bridge.

The two-hour tour also takes you to the hidden side of Florence. With your professional guide giving you the lowdown on hidden places and other interesting nuggets most tourists don’t even have an idea of! The tour also includes a free scoop of traditional gelato as you pass by the La Strega Nocciola.

Florence: Small Group History Walking Tour with an Aperitivo

This walking tour expands upon the idea set by the previous one. The three hour walk focuses not on the touristy places, but on the places instrumental to the birth not just of Florence of but of Italy in general. This history-buff-perfect tour starts at the Piazza della Repubblica, where Caesar first founded the city. You will also get a crash course in everything Florentian, from its architecture to its early politics.

Of course, you will also get a lot of eye candy. You will make your way to Ponte Vecchio, see part of the Vasari Corridor, stroll through the Piazzale degli Uffizi, enter the Palazzo Vecchio, and head to the Duomo, among others. You will also be treated to a cup of espresso and an aperitivo (plus a snack) during different points of the tour.

Ultimate Uffizi: 2-Hour Priority Entrance Tour

If walking around a crowded city isn’t really your thing, this GetYourGuide Original tour will hit the spot. The Uffizi Gallery is famous for being the epicenter of Florence art, housing some of the most priceless art pieces in the world. Because of this, the queues here are often impossibly long, as hundreds of tourists clamor to get around the two-storey museum.

You can forget about the lines on this tour, though, which gives you priority access and a guide that will walk you through not just the museum’s highlights but also its secrets. Not only will you see masterpieces by da Vinci and Botticelli, but you will also know the history behind them. You can also gain access to all open exhibitions on the day you visit.

Florence Dome Climb: 1-Hour Priority Entrance Tour

Another GetYourGuide Original, this takes you behind the scenes of one of the most famous cupolas in the world. Skip the lines and the crowds, and reward yourself with a breath-taking view of Florence as you reach the top! This is perfect for those who wish to have a rare bird’s eye view of the city.

Of course, the tour isn’t just about the climb. Hear the remarkable story behind the dome which took two centuries to complete. Marvel at both the artwork on the ceiling and the richness of materials used for the floors and pillars. The tour comes with a ticket to the rest of the Duomo, so you can explore the museum, the cathedral itself, the crypt, and the baptistry. It’s valid for three days, so if you have other plans you can skip and come back later!

Academia Gallery: Reserved Entrance and Guided Tour

The beauty of Florence art and culture is that it’s just as interesting whether you choose a widespread or a focused approach. The Academia Gallery tour is an example of the latter, with the famous David statue being the focal point.

The tour gives you an in-depth look at the life and times of Michelangelo, the immortal artist of the Renaissance. The 1-hour tour unfolds as you visit the collection of his masterpieces, along with that of other illustrious painters of the time. And if you think that museum tours are boring academic sessions (the museum’s name can be misleading, after all), the tour’s licensed and professional guides will prove you wrong!

Florence: Private Customized Walking Tour with a Local Guide

Anyone can look at the sights and absorb all the trivia, but only a few will be able to truly look at Florence with the eyes of a local! This guide gets one of Florence’s passionate locals as your tour guide, and shows you their way of life which is just as interesting (or even more so) than the tourist attractions.

The tour can last anywhere from two to six hours and takes you around the neighborhood of your choice. This is perfect if you’ll be staying in Florence for an extended vacation. Know all the ins and outs, like the best places to dine in or to shop from. Get insider tips and tricks, and a complete picture of Florentian life!
