Today I am sharing a Free Printable Road Trip Word Search Puzzle with its solution. It is always hard to keep kids busy and entertained on long road trips so I have made many free printable games to help you with this task. This word search puzzle is slightly big and difficult so older kids can enjoy it more. I am also adding links to more road trip word search puzzles from other websites at the end of this page so you can download the appropriate one according to the age of your kids. This word search puzzle that I have made is suitable for adults as well.

How to Play

Print the word search puzzle by using a printer at your home or office. Give kids the puzzle sheets and ask them to find all the 20 words. They can compete against each other and can also help each other in finding the words. The words can be found horizontally, vertically and diagonally. You can take help from the solution that I am sharing below if the whole family is unable to find a word.

The road trip word search includes 12 vocabulary words for things you’ll probably see along the drive. Words can go in any direction in this puzzle.

For the word scramble, there are 7 places you might go on your road trip.

This puzzle is best for kids around ages 8 to 12, but younger and older kids might enjoy it depending on their reading level.

After you solve both puzzles, use crayons or colored pencils to color the cute illustrations too.

This fun Road Trip Word Search for kids is perfect for long car rides!

Finally, we are starting to see some warmer temps and sunny skies here in Ontario and that means family road trips are underway!

We’ve already had a couple this year with the boys and lucky for us they are awesome travelers and don’t get bored too quick. But that doesn’t mean they don’t like some fun car activities to do once their 3DS play runs out!

My 7 year old has really gotten into word searches this year as his reading skills are shaping up. I decided to surprise him with this fun car shaped word search puzzle for our next adventure. It’s filled with all kinds of things you’ll see on the road like trucks and tires, or items you’ll need along the way like gas and snacks.

Recently on our way down to Florida, my oldest Lucia, was bored. Sound familiar? She needed something to do at our pitstop in North Carolina.

Luckily, I had created some word searches to keep her mind occupied that were fun and educational. Problem solved!

Why are word searches great for kids?

Fortunately, Lucia loves all types of puzzles as much as I do, like jigsaws, mazes, word searches, and escape rooms to name a few. We both love the challenge of figuring things out and really having to think .

Word searches have many wonderful educational benefits for kids. Here are my top three reasons of why I think they’re great:

• Word searches help with developing decoding skills . Decoding is an essential skill to becoming a proficient reader. It involves the understanding and application of letter-sound relationships to pronounce words accurately (reading).
• They are a great tool to introduce new vocabulary words and to review vocabulary as well. Since these word searches are road trip-themed, the words used revolve around this topic. This helps to expand your child’s vocabulary and knowledge about road trips, which can lead to great discussions and learning moments.
• They work great as a “filler” activity when there is downtime on your trip. For us they came in handy in our hotel room. However, they would be great while waiting for food at a restaurant or lulls on a long car ride.

What’s better than one free word search? Three! There are three road trip word searches that will challenge your kid while you’re on the go!

Each worksheet is included as a PDF download that will print on a standard 8.5 x11″ sheet of printer paper. I highly recommend placing the word searches in sheet protectors and use dry erase markers . Dry erase markers conveniently wipe off of sheet protectors making it easy to reuse this activity over and over again!

These particular word searches were designed for kindergarteners on up. Some of the words are longer words and can be more challenging to decode (ex: rest stop, mountain). So there is a layer of difficulty to these puzzles.

However, they are very kid friendly. I created them using a large, easy-to-read bolded font, and the words are only placed horizontally (to be read from left to right) and vertically (to be read up to down).

That means there are no tricky word placements like words that run backwards, diagonally, or that have overlapping letters.

Each worksheet has a word bank featuring ten words for a total of thirty words altogether.

Who doesn’t love a maze?! Our very on Nerd Bear is stuck in the center and needs rescuing. We have several circular and triangle mazes which are fun and free. Print them off and find Nerd Bear!

The classic word search is a firm favorite to pass the time at home or on a journey.

We have several themed word searches for you to print and they range in difficult from simple 8×8 sized word searches to harder 16×16 for older kids and even adults.

There’s something so satisfying and yet saddening about saying “you sank my battleship!” Best of all you don’t need the physical board game to play this classic .

Using just the free printable and a pen you can play this as much as you like by marking out your own fleet and using the grid references to target your enemy.

This is a great test for both kids and adults alike to use their math skills to solve these magic squares.

You have to fill in the squares so that each column, row, and diagonal all equal the sum indicated for each puzzle. You best get your thinking caps on!

You can’t open a newspaper or magazine these days without coming across a Sudoku puzzle.

The 9×9 Sudoku puzzles may be a bit too challenging for younger kids so here we have easier 4×4, and slightly harder 6×6 sized Sudoku puzzles.

Another puzzle game to keep your brain active, these themed printable sheets will have you unscrambling the mess to find the real words.

Take turns putting X and O’s in each space until you get three in a row either across, down, or diagonally.

For added fun you can play this game at speed and watch as you, or your opponent, makes silly mistakes.

This very simple game involves taking it in turns to draw lines between dots with the goal of creating squares.

You can be strategic and finish your opponents squares but watch out as they may do the same to you.

As you complete squares put your letter (A or B) into the box. The winner is the person with the most squares. Good luck!

These printable hangman sheets means that kids and adults can play several rounds of this game.

It’s easy to see where you are by crossing off letters of the alphabet as you go. Can you guess the word before the end?

This game can be played by yourself or against friends. Look at the pictures below for one minute and then hide it. Then try and draw as many of them as you can from memory.

You then have 5 minutes to draw as many of them as you can. See how many you can get and beat your friends or family!

This is such a great game as a cognitive challenge and for enhancing memory in children.

Coloring has always been a popular pastime and even gaining popularity with adults. What better way to pass the time than coloring in our very own Nerd Bear!

Hint: he is a red bear but feel free to change him if you think you have a better color in mind.

This classic road trip game will keep your keys alert and interested as they gaze out the window trying to spot these cars.

The cars are the most popular brands and models sold in the U.S. so for any long road trip you should be able to spot all of them. Keep your eyes peeled!

For security a human can’t see or reset your password, so read the below information carefully.

If you haven’t gotten the password reset email, check your spam folder and be sure you’re checking the email account that the email was sent to.

If you have the password reset email but the password isn’t accepted, be sure you are using the most recent password reset email: sometimes people will hit the button twice, and only the second password will work.

Be sure if you copy-paste the password not to get a space on the outside, or if you're typing it keep in mind that it’s case-sensitive and that a lower-case L can look like the number 1, etc.

You can cancel your subscription from your 'My Account' page, which you can access using the navigation bar at the top when you are logged in.

Support representatives cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf.

First make sure you’ve published your puzzle. See the 'How do I print?' section above for more information.

99% of other printing issues have to do with printer settings. Instead of trying to fiddle with printer settings, which can be time-consuming and frustrating, there are a couple workarounds you can try.

You can try printing from a different browser, since different browsers have different default print settings. Alternately, you can try saving as a PDF (next to the print icon in the top right) and print that.

We are looking to add a built-in way to save answer keys to PDF soon.

In the meantime, printing the puzzle generally looks the same as converting it to PDF and printing that, so if you don't need a downloaded version of the answer key it’s simpler to just print it.

Alternately, most browsers have some form of a "Print to File" or "Print to PDF" option when you’re selecting your printer.

We generally respond to all reported issues in about a day. If it’s been a few days and you haven’t heard back from us, it’s possible we sent an email that didn’t reach you.

Check your spam folder, and be aware that some school email systems block emails from non-school email addresses. Try providing a different email address if you think our emails to you are being blocked.
