Check Out This Modified Tata Safari Storme By DC Northeast
This customised Tata Safari Storme features a lot of sporty mods on the exterior, while the interior has been given a premium makeover
Tata Safari is one of the most iconic SUVs in the Indian car market, and a lot of hearts were broken when the vehicle was discontinued back in 2019. Even though Tata has brought the ‘Safari’ back in a new avatar, fans of the original still prefer the older, body-on-frame model due to its rugged nature.
Although the old Tata Safari was an extremely handsome SUV, with plenty of old-school charm, there are a lot of people who take the aftermarket route to enhance its looks! Here, we have a modified Tata Safari Storme, from Assam, which has been extensively modified by DC Northeast . The pictures were shared online by the owner, Dr. Saurav Deori Bharali .
The exterior of this modified Tata Safari Storme features a lot of changes. The SUV gets a custom front grille, with honeycomb mesh, along with a new, rather flashy, front bumper. The chrome slat at the end of the bonnet has been replaced by a carbon fibre unit, and a hood scoop has been added as well. The front bumper also gets integrated LED DRLs, and a DC badge can be seen on the bottom right corner of the front grille.
We also see blacked-out side steps and red guard strips just below the doors at the sides of the SUV. At the rear, the chrome strip on the tailgate has been replaced by a carbon fibre strip, and the Tata logo has been replaced by a DC badge. The rear bumper is custom as well, featuring a faux bash plate (finished in silver), flanked by a fake exhaust vent on either side.
The interior of the vehicle is also quite eye-catchy, featuring red leather upholstery. Behind both first row seats, an entertainment screen and a folding tray have been added. Faux wood has been used on the trays, as well as on the doors, to give the cabin an upmarket and premium feel.
DC Design is perhaps one of the most famous car customisation brands in India. Its owner, Dilip Chhabria, has recently been in the news a lot, with allegations of car financing and forgery scams against him.

Tata Safari Storme Gets A Makeover With Black & White Decals
Tata Safari is one of the most popular and iconic SUVs ever offered by the carmaker in the market. The Safari Storme is the most successful version of the SUV offered by the automaker in India. There’s also an army version of the SUV, which is only meant to be used by the Indian Army. Here are a few images of a modified Tata Safari Storme , which features some smart-looking mods on the outside and on the inside.
Here are 4 Stunning Modified Tata Safari Storme of India
One can see in the pictures that the side profile of the car features some smart-looking blacked-out strips along with Safari branding, which makes the Tata SUV look more striking. To gel with the white and black theme of the SUV, the modifier has also painted the rims in black colour shade. This wrap looks really cool, and it doesn’t seem to be that expensive. At the back, bits of the wrap can be seen, and it also gets a rear bullbar for better protection.
Inside, the cabin of the SUV looks quite different as compared to the regular version of the SUV. The seats are covered with orange coloured upholstery and the same fabric is used to wrap door panels and roof. The interior of this Tata Safari now looks more premium and unique. Other than this, no modifications have been done to the SUV.
New-gen Tata Safari Digitally Rendered as a Pick-up Truck
Talking about Tata Safari Strome, it derives power from a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel mill, which is capable of shredding out 154 Bhp of peak power and 394 Nm of peak torque. Recently, Tata Motors has introduced the 2021 Safari in the Indian market, which gets propelled by a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that develops power and torque outputs of 170 PS and 350 Nm, respectively. The engine comes paired to a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In the Indian market, it rubs shoulders with the likes of MG Hector Plus and upcoming Mahindra XUV500. It gets retailed at a starting price of Rs 14.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Accessorized for off-road application.
A modified Tata Safari Storme was showcased by Tata Motors recently. Painted in a flashy yellow, the SUV is accessorized to enhance its off-road capability.
Upfront, the spruced up Safari Storme is equipped with a bumper guard which houses twin spot lights, a chrome accented bug deflector, a plastic bonnet air scoop, sump-guard, LED DRL strips and roof-mounted spot lights.
In profile, the car gets prominent lower body black plastic cladding and chrome finished wing mirrors with integrated turn signals. Other accessories include off-road tyres, window visors, plastic door handles and foot boards.
A rear tow hitch completes the customization. Save for the black fabric upholstery the interior pretty much continues in stock condition.
The Safari Storme is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine which pumps out 140 PS and 320 Nm of torque. The transmission is a 5-speed manual unit. Both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations are available.

Snapshot – The Tata Safari was India’s first real SUV, and was launched way back in 1998. The Safari has a legion of fans in India, and even in some other parts of the world where it is sold. The Safari has evolved and the latest flagship model in this line is dubbed the Storme. Over the years, Safaris have been modified, many of them tastefully so. We’ve picked out 10 such modified Tata Safari DICORs and Safari Stormes.
MotorMind’s Tata Safari Storme Custom
MotorMind Customs of Bangalore has given the Tata Safari Storme a vinyl wrap in yellow and black, enough to make the SUV really stand out. The tyres get fatter while matt black finished alloy wheels are a classy touch. With these changes, the Safari Storme looks quite distinct from the stock version. It could be a touch too loud for many th0ugh.

Tata Safari Storme with Motormind body kit
This Safari Storme wearing the Motormind body kit gets a tweaked front end, one that makes it edgier looking. The stock Storme looks much softer in comparison. This kit goes on to show the impact a single aftermarket addition can make to the looks of a car.
Tata Safari Storme Mountain Rescue
Tata Motors has come up with a range of custom Safari Stormes over the last couple of years. The Mountain Rescue custom is one such one off that the automaker has created as a show special. The Mountain Rescue custom showcased the potential that the Safari Storme has in terms of cosmetic modifications.
MotorMind’s Tata Safari DICOR
MotorMind has worked on the Safari DICOR to tart up looks of the iconic SUV. The Safari DICOR is ageless as far as looks go. These modifications make the vehicle look different from the scores of Safari DICORs around. A body kit, strategically placed daytime LEDs and a red paint job are the major changes on the custom job.
Tata Safari Storme Ladakh Concept
The Ladakh Concept is a body kit equipped Safari Storme built by Tata Motors as a one off show special. There was talk about the body kit being made available to Storme owners. That hasn’t seen the light of the day yet.
Tata Safari to Range Rover Evoque Replica
Big Daddy Customs, a Delhi based car custom outfit, is known for putting together replica cars using existing vehicles as donor models. In line with this, the Tata Safari gets converted to a Range Rover Evoque. The conversion is classy, and will manage to fool most folks.

Tata Safari Storme review, test drive and video
Tata’s long-awaited Safari update, the Safari Storme, hits the roads. We take it out for a spin.

When you first look at the new Safari Storme, you are immediately struck by how, even 14 years after its launch, Tata seems to have made barely any changes to the exterior. Alterations to the nose and rear suggest that it’s not much more than a facelift. However, that misconception gets blown to dust the moment you drive it. Once you’re behind the wheel, you realise just how much of an improvement the new Storme is over the previous Safari. It feels better built, it’s far more refined, it rides really well and the interior too feels a generation ahead.
The most obvious changes are to the front, where the slim, wide grille (capped with a thick chrome strip) undercuts the sharp-looking headlights in a nice, stylistic touch. Move to the side however and the Storme looks exactly like the old Safari. New cladding for the doors and wheel arches can’t hide the fact that the glass house is identical, the doors are similar and the A, B and C pillars are the same as well.
At the back, the tailgate-mounted spare wheel has now been moved under the floor. The result is a cleaner rear profile with a new set of tail-lights.
On the inside, the overall improvement in quality all around is immediately evident and almost nothing of the old car is carried over. The chrome door handles and leather seats add a touch of luxury, as do small details like the chrome on the gearlever and the flock lining in the glovebox.
Just like the previous generation Safari, the Storme has excellent seat comfort and, once you haul yourself in, you are rewarded with a commanding seating position and a delightfully spacious and airy cabin. The front seats are large and very well bolstered, whilst the rear bench is supportive too.
In stark contrast, the third row is far from comfortable or practical. The tiny, foldable jump seats are only useable on short journeys, at best.
On the mechanical front, the Safari Storme uses an updated version of the 138bhp Dicor motor, which Tata now calls VariCor, because of the use of a variable geometry turbo. This 2.2-litre common-rail, direct-injection motor uses double overhead cams, hydraulic valve adjusters and sixteen valves to breathe better.
The overall level of refinement is much better now with an engine that is quieter throughout its rev range, and a cabin that feels particularly well insulated from the outside.
Tata engineers have managed to shave around 75 kg off the old car thanks to a lighter chassis, but this hulking two-tonne SUV is a bit lethargic off the line; a result of its weight and lack of low-end torque. You need to keep the engine above 1800rpm, after which the Storme picks up the pace with a fair amount of enthusiasm. The mid-range is quite punchy and cruising is quite effortless, which suits the Safari’s role as a long-distance cruiser.
The clutch is reasonably light and the gearbox has been improved with shorter throws, but the shift still feels a bit soggy and vague.
The Storme sits on a shortened version of the Aria’s hydroformed X2 chassis and maintains the previous Safari’s 2650mm wheelbase. As a result, the Storme’s chassis is approximately 50 percent stiffer and 35kg lighter than the old Safari’s outdated ladder frame.
The ride comfort is simply fantastic. The Storme coasts over bumps and broken roads like a freight train, flattening out even the largest of potholes. The suspension, also carried over from the Aria, is on the softer side, and hence there’s a fair amount of pitching and heaving over uneven surfaces.
The Storme retains the old Safari’s comprehensive four-wheel-drive system that includes a low range and a limited-slip differential. The system is easily engaged by using a central console-mounted dial and this allows the big Tata to tackle medium to difficult sections.
The new Safari Storme comes equipped with features like ABS, remote locking and an audio system with Bluetooth connectivity standard across the range. In fact, the Rs 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) that Tata is asking for the base Storme LX may be considerably more than the old LX, but the equipment is on par, if not better than, the old mid-level EX.
Unusually, the top-end VX versions (Rs 12.5 lakh for the 4x2) no longer get the reversing camera (there’s just parking sensors) or DVD player as they did before.
The Safari Storme, then, comes across as a quantum leap ahead of the previous Safari. It’s well-equipped, refined, better built and comprehensively updated. And with prices starting from Rs 9.9 lakh for the base 4x2 model and going to Rs 13.7 lakh for the fully loaded 4x4 option, it’s great value for money. Also, as a long-distance cruiser, nothing can quite beat it for the money. The only grouse is that, even after 14 years, Tata hasn’t got around to changing the ageing body completely.

Design of the 2024 safari storme.
Despite focusing on front-wheel drive vehicles with monocoque construction, Tata has always kept a few models with traditional ladder-frame chassis, rear-wheel drive, and 4x4 capability. However, this changed in 2020 when Tata discontinued the Hexa and Safari Storme. Currently, none of Tata's vehicles offer rear-wheel drive or 4x4 capability. There were rumors about the Hexa making a comeback with a BS-6 engine, but that never happened. The Safari nameplate was also used for a vehicle originally known as the Buzzard or Gravitas. But what if Tata decided to reintroduce the Safari Storme today? That's where the 2024 Tata Safari Storme 4×4 render comes in.
Exterior Design
To reduce visual bulk, Bimble Designs added a small black strip to the body claddings. The rear of the car features redesigned LED tail lights with a connected LED bar. The spare wheel remains mounted under the frame, and there are no other significant changes to the exterior. While interior details are not provided in the renders, it is expected to have seven seats and modern amenities typical of a modern car.
Power and Performance: Potential Engine Options
Potential market impact.
Many enthusiasts hope that Tata Motors will consider launching the Safari Storme, given its significant impact on the Indian market. Ultimately, it is the first indigenously built VIP automobile in India. There is a market for such a vehicle, as seen by the ongoing popularity of cars like the Mahindra Scorpio Classic.

Tata Safari Storme 2019 Verdict
The Safari has always been known for its presence and mighty demeanour and continues to do the same despite its design being decades old now. It is a spacious vehicle that will take a whole family of five with all their luggage without having to worry about broken roads or bad patches. But it feels too old now especially when compared to its modern competition.
