What you will do
We'll prep you for your boat trip with a safety briefing and kitting you out with waterproofs (optional) and lifejackets (mandatory). This takes about 30 minutes. We'll then help you to board Shearwater (our boat) and set off from the Heritage Quay. We'll go out through Lowestoft's outer harbour before turning north and increasing speed. Thirty minutes later we'll arrive at Scroby, drop anchor and stop the engine. At this point, often, some seals' curiosity gets the better of them and they come to see us. Others will ingore us and continue basking on the sands. We'll spend around thirty minutes with the seals before returning to Lowestoft at speed.
What's included
Lifejackets and optionally waterproof suits.
What I might need
Warm, waterproof clothing. It's colder at sea than most people realise. We do lend out waterproof suits if you require them but feel free to bring your own.

We're currently in the middle of the summer holidays and the weather couldn't be better. With temperatures of up to 35C families across the county will be planning fun days out in an attempt to enjoy the fine weather while it's here.
But let's be honest, the school summer holidays can be as exhausting as they are enjoyable, especially if you've got young children. For some children boredom can set in quite quickly, which can be a bit of a problem for parents with three weeks remaining before it's back to school time.
Fortunately, there are loads of fun activities to get up to in Suffolk and we think we've found one you'll definitely want to try before the summer's up. Lowestoft-based Jet Adventures is offering speedboat rides throughout the summer holidays, where you and the family can experience the thrill of whizzing up and down the Suffolk and Norfolk coast.

The excursion departs from the Jet Adventures' South Pier base and shortly after departure passengers will zoom past the UK's most easterly point, Ness Point. From there, the speedboat will travel at up to 25 knots along the coast towards Gorleston.
Those on the trip will be afforded unique views of the south Norfolk coast as the boat travels at high speed past Gorleston and Great Yarmouth. Once past Great Yarmouth, the boat will then slow down at Scroby Sands ahead of the main event.
Perhaps best known for its offshore windfarm which opened in 2003, the Scroby Sands sandbank is also home to a number of seals. A description of the voyage on the Jed Adventures website says: "There are normally many seals there, some on the sand (tide dependent!) and some bobbing around in the water. You should get some amazing pictures, they’re very inquisitive."
The boat will travel at a reduced speed around the seals to avoid disturbing the animals. Those on the boat will have the rare opportunity of seeing the animals from a safe distance, while still being able to take some amazing snaps.
The trip lasts just under two hours and passengers are advised to dress according to the weather. Tickets are priced at £35 for adults, £30 for children and seniors, and £5 for dogs. More information can be found on the Jet Adventures website .

Boat trip scoby sands.
Good value. Ideal photos. Seals. Little terns. 1 hour trip. Guides happy to answer questions. Good day trip for kids as well.
The guys operating the seal trip were very polite and friendly and gave a good overview of the bay etc. It was amazing to see the seals just lazing about on the sand banks. Some even jumped in and swam towards or along with the boat. Definitely worth a visit while in Great Yarmouth.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip out to see the seals. Excellent value too at £10 for adults and £7 for children. It took about 15 minutes to reach Scroby Sands where we had fantastic views of the seals. My grandchildren loved it. It doesn’t matter which side of the boat you board as the captain turns it around for everyone to get a great view. It was a beautiful sunny day and the sands looked like a desert in the middle of the sea. We also saw many seabirds on the island too. We queued up by the jetty about 20 minutes before the scheduled time as we had just missed the boat going out. I would definitely go again next time I’m in Great Yarmouth. All round the trip takes about 45 minutes and the crew do give a helping hand to board.
Really enjoyable trip out to Scroby Sands to see the seals, well worth £10.00 . The only thing a bit of a struggle getting across the sand first part was boarded then sand/shingle and had to climb ladder down into boat so could be an issue for less mobile
Went out to see the seals this morning with my husband, 2 year old and dog. A lovely trip, which we all enjoyed. Saw plenty of seals and our dog got plenty of fuss on the boat. Would definitely recommend.
Went on the boat when here on holiday i would recommend it to anyone, was magnificent looking at the hundreds of seals up close on the sandbank and in and out the water. It's roughly 45 mins to an hr on the boat some history given and plenty of photo opportunities. I'd recommend taking a jacket as could get a little chilly.
