Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour Birmingham review - all scores and surprise opening night winner

I 'm writing this having just got home from the opening night of Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour 2024 - and honestly, what a night. It was fab-u-lous dahling, exquisite, exceptional! How many Strictly-type comments can I fit in the first few sentences?

It really was just, breathtaking. Now, I am a top Strictly fan. I adore it - and I'm always excited for the live tour. It's such a pick-me-up in January isn't it?

But I do try to watch with a critical eye - think about how it could be better, make sure our readers get an honest review. But truthfully, I'll say this. If you enjoy watching BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, you will really love the live tour 2024. It's a whole other atmosphere. Full of glitz, glam, fireworks, sparkle, energy and laughter. It's really worth going along to. Tickets start from around £34 too so it's not as expensive as some other big shows.

The opening night at Utilita Arena in Birmingham was amazing - I had a smile on my face the entire night. The Arena was packed with 8,000 people, not an empty seat in sight.

It was an incredible atmosphere from the start, as host Janette Manrara welcomed the huge crowd. She said: "Birmingham it is so nice to see you all and thank you for coming to see us. It's going to be a good one I can feel it!"

The stars, pros and judges were welcomed onto the stage with all the flamboyance of our favourite Strictly TV show. This year the couples were Ellie and Vito (our series champions), Layton and Nikita, Bobby and Dianne, Angela and Carlos, Angela and Kai, Krishnan and Jowita, and Annabelle and Graziano. Judges were Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke.

Here's how the night went, including scores for each dance, judges comments and who the overall winner was...

Krishnan and Jowita

Dance 1 - Cha cha cha

Krishnan danced with Lauren in the TV version of Strictly but was paired with Jowita for the live show, as Lauren could not attend. Their first dance was cha cha cha to Boom Shaka Laka - a fan favourite!

It was the ideal routine for an opening number - providing much fun and colour to get the audience going. Shirley commented: "Every time I see youon the news now I’m like boom shaka laka. Your hips are on fire!”

Anton added: "It was marvellous. What a lovely way to start the evening." And Craig said (to much booing): "Watching that is like watching the last man standing at a wedding. With too much alcohol."

Krishnan was scored 22 out of 30 for his first dance. 5 from Craig, 8 from Shirley, and 9 from Anton.

Dance 2 - Quickstep

Anton said: "I love a quickstep in tails - this is you all over. Good number." Craig set the audience off again by saying: "It lacked swing."

And Shirley sweetly added: " I heard some gossip backstage that when you came off after the first number you teared up a bit as you so love being here. The pure joy of watching this is that it shows you can do it too - well done."

He was scored 23 out of 30 for his second dance. Craig 6, Shirley 8 and Anton 9.

Overall score - 45/60

Angela and Carlos

Dance 1 - Charleston

Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu delighted the audience with their wonderful Charleston, the second number for the evening. The judges were full of praise for the routine with Anton saying: "I love this number. You were so brilliant. It was my favourite number of the whole series last year."

Craig said it was a 'great routine' and added: "You are a brilliant dancer." And Shirley said: "The precision between the two of you is exquisite. You are a very unique team, I really enjoyed it."

Angela scored a 9 from Craig, 9 from Shirley and a 10 from Anton - making a score of 28/30.

Dance 2 - Argentine tango

Angela and Carlos' Argentine tango was stunning - just mesmerising. I'd forgotten just how good it was from the show.

Craig said: "It was intense, it was focussed, it was brilliantly danced - well done." Shirley added: "It was the ultimate performance. The precision, the beauty - so calm, so focussed."

And Anton added, to much laughter: "I know I said your Charleston was my favourite dance - I was just being nice - this is my favourite dance of the whole series. I love your legs."

The pair were scored 9 from Craig, and 10 each from Shirley and Anton giving them 29/30.

Overall score - 57/60

Layton and Nikita

Dance 1 - Quickstep

It was quickly clear Layton and Nikita were very popular. VERY. To be honest though, I was screaming when they walked on too.

They started with their quickstep, and Craig said: "Layton darling that was almost butch. Absolutely phenomenal." Shirley said: "Mr Dancer Extraordinaire in every possible way." While Anton added: "It's just tremendous, I love it."

The duo scored a perfect 30./30.

Dance 2 - Paso

The crowd absolutely brought the house down with this one (me included). This Moulin Rouge paso (one of my absolute favourites) was just phenomenal. Shirley said: "Superb Paso shapes. Your footwork is off the chat." And Anton added: "It's so good, for once can't you go a bit wrong? You're just brilliant."

Craig said: "As they said in that movie, spectacular, spectacular, spectacular!"

They scored another perfect 30.

Overall score 60/60

A quick note mid-review - the judges scoring is for guidance only and has no impact on who wins the live tour. The audience alone has control over that!

Angela and Kai

Dance 1 - Argentine tango

Angela Rippon and her partner Kai impressed 8,000 (and then some) people in one swoop with Angela's incredible leg action.

Shirley said: "I wasn't expecting that. You're so cool, calm and collected, with your leg up there too!" Anton said: "Magical, so exquisite. I wish I had danced with you."

And Craig said: "I loved it. It had control. I know how passionate you are about this dance - and that shows."

Craig scored her 8, Shirley 9 and Anton 10 - giving a score of 27/30.

Dance 2 - Cha cha cha

Angela and Kai charmed with their cha cha cha, but the audience (and judges) were only waiting for one thing.

Anton said, to huge laughter from the crowd: "Watching you do that and waiting for the leg is like watching Dirty Dancing and waiting for the lift. It’s like we’re watching the dance but no one is really interested. Cha cha is lovely but we’re waiting for the leg!"

Craig also got a giggle and said: "When I first saw the leg I thought it was false. It was sharp and it was clean." And Shirley said: "The rest of you is absolutely coordinated. How do you do it? I want to be just like you."

Craig scored 7 for the second dance, Shirley 8 and Anton 9 totalling 24/30.

Overall score: 51/60

Bobby and Dianne

Dance 1 - Samba

Bobby Brazier and his partner Dianne had some wonderful energy. Bobby ran onto the stage and did an entire lap of it before even starting any dancing! Their dance was a great burst of life - the crowd loved it.

Commenting after the dance Anton said: "It was extraordinary- your mesmerising hip action!" And Craig said: "Lovely bounce action - clean footwork. Hips are hiptastic!"

Shirley added: "I have never ever in my years of dancing seen someone who can move their body like you. It makes the samba so thrilling Bobby."

Bobby thanked Birmingham for 'making his dreams come true'. Craig scored him 8, Shirley 9 and Anton 9.

Dance 2 - Viennese Waltz

This was so wonderful, smooth and graceful to watch. I really loved it. Craig said: "It had flow, elegance, grace, warmth, something I know nothing about. I loved it."

Shirley added: "You’ll always be my king of ballroom. Anton step aside for a moment. I'm so proud of your Strictly journey." And Anton added: You are tremendous as a ballroom dancer, well done you."

Craig scored it 8, Shirley 8 and Anton 10 - totalling 26/30.

Overall score 52/60.

Annabelle and Graziano

Dance 1 - American smooth

This was a beautiful dance, to a beautiful song too. A huge shout out to the incredible Strictly band led by Allan Rogers and the live singers too. You were all fantastic!

Craig said: "Your shoulder needs to be down darling - that’s the only thing that ruined it. I think you’re fantastic, well done." Shirley said: "Extremely well poised - the best footwork I’ve seen."

And Anton added: "I thought you were elegant - your footwork is gorgeous - the loveliest of all the ballroom dancers."

Craig scored 8, Shirley 9 and Anton 10 - totalling 27/30.

Dance 2 - Samba

Annabelle danced with Johannes in the TV series, but was with Graziano for the live show. We missed JoJo, but the two made a lovely live pairing.

Speaking about their Samba, Shirley said: "You embody the spirit of the samba for sure - you brought the whole samba to life." Anton called it 'exquisite and extraordinary' and Craig said: "I love this dance as it’s the first time we saw you unleash your wild side."

She scored an 8 from Craig, 8 from Shirley and a 9 from Anton totalling 25/30.

Overall score - 52/60

Ellie and Vito

Dance 1 - Paso

Time for our series champions! Ellie and Vito won Strictly Come Dancing 2023, but would they win the 2024 live tour in Birmingham on Friday, January 19?

Their paso was stunning, full of fire and power. Shirley said: "That was absolutely phenomenal - like you’ve eaten a technique book. I applaud you."

Anton said: "I love it. It’s the way you drive across the floor with such fierce determination. Ooh marvellous." And Craig added: "The power and drama in that was brilliant."

They scored 9 from Craig, 10 from Shirley and 10 from Anton - totalling 29/30.

Dance 2 - American smooth

This was the dance some may say won them the glitterball in December 2023 - Ellie admitted it's her favourite routine too. It's true ballroom - and so gorgeous. Shirley said: "It's the Rolls Royce of American smooth - exquisitely danced."

Anton added: "I loved that! I felt like I was doing it all - go on girl. You’re one of the finest winners of Strictly." Craig simply said: "Ah-may-zing."

The pair scored a perfect 30 for their American smooth.

Overall score 59/60.

What else happened?

In between each couple's routines, there were some brilliant numbers from the Strictly pros, including their popular Barbie-themed dance - and an absolutely EPIC finale which you need to see to really believe. It was fantastic - my highlight of the night.

And the WINNER, of the opening night of Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour on Friday, January 19 at Utilita Arena in Birmingham was.....

Layton and Nikita!

The Arena erupted - the audience had picked their favourite through text voting throughout the night - and they had chosen Layton. Shocked, he said to the crowds: "Thank you Birmingham! I didn’t expect this at all!"

I voted for Layton - twice! Texts cost 25p each, so I'm glad my 50p paid off.

Strictly The Live Tour was a fantastic night - if you fancy a bit of sparkle in your life and fancy booking tickets, have a look on Ticketmaster as there's still some left for the rest of the tour.

And as always, keeeeeep dancing!

Strictly Come Dancing RECAP: leaderboard and scores for week two as couples return to ballroom

Strictly Come Dancing is back on Saturday night when the couples will compete in the second live show of the new series

  • Updated 21:25, 30 SEP 2023

strictly tour last night

There's an elimination looming on Strictly Come Dancing this week as all of the couples returnED to the ballroom for the second live show of the new series.

All of this year's Strictly stars and their professional partners got a huge let off last week, when it was announced at the start of the night that there'd be no public vote, meaning no-one could get the boot in week one. However, on Saturday night the scores will be very important as everyone bids to avoid the dreaded dance-off.

Former EastEnders star Nigel Harman was the toast of the ballroom last weekend when he got a debut record score of 32 out of 40, scoring all 8s alongside Katya Jones for their electric paso doble to Smells Like Teen Spirit.

At the other end of the leaderboard, it was Les Dennis bringing up the rear, having scored just 16 for his tango with professional partner Nancy Xu.

All 15 pairs were back in action on Saturday, with us bringing live updates and scores from the ballroom.

Shirley Ballas defiant against 'too harsh' backlash

Both Craig Revel-Horwood and many viewers at home have accused Shirley Ballas of being 'too harsh' on week one frontrunner Nigel Harman tonight.

The critical tone of Shirley's feedback was in stark contrast to a week earlier, as she told the EastEnders and Casualty actor: 'The basic footwork in this dance is a lot flatter than all the other dances. They actually say fly flat when it comes to the Viennese Waltz." She added: "Too much bopping up and down for me; too many technical errors...you know you do your reverse..." as she was then interrupted by loud boos from the very vocal crowd in the studio.

strictly tour last night

Not backing down, Shirley snapped: "Well you might learn something so hold on a minute," as more boos came and she then responded: "Hold on," before continuing: "When you do a reverse turn you should be crossing your feet, when you move in a natural turn you should close your feet. The upper part of the frame on your standing spin was off and your fleckle footwork was incorrect."

A reminder of the leaderboard

With an elmination on the cards, the scores from week one and two were combined to give each couple a total out of 80.

Here are the standings:

Layton and Nikita - 65

Amanda and Giovanni - 61

Ellie and Vito - 60

Nigel and Katya - 59

Angela and Kai - 59

Bobby and Dianne - 58

Angela and Carlos - 52

Annabel and Johannes - 50

Eddie and Karen - 43

Adam and Luba - 42

Krishnan and Lauren - 42

Zara and Graziano - 42

Jody and Jowita- 37

Nikita and Gorka - 36

Les and Nancy - 31

A snapshot of the dance of the night

There's a new couple at the top of the Strictly leaderboard after week one and two scores were combined.

West End star Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin are the new leaders after getting a huge 36 out of 40 tonight, thanks to a superb Quickstep.

Here's a look at them in action...

strictly tour last night

Results revealed tomorrow night

Tess and Claudia have just confirmed that this week's results show will air tomorrow, Sunday, October 1 at 7.15pm.

There will be a performance from Brit winner Jorja Smith and a group performance from the pro dancers and some 'special guests.'

What a night!

Well that was some show with some truly brilliant performances, rounded out in serious style by Layton and Nikita and their terrific Quickstep.

Before cameras started rolling in the ballroom, bookies identified Nikita Kanda and Les Dennis as the two stars most likely to be eliminated and they are the ones at the bottom of the leaderboard after week one and week two scores were combined.

Strictly leaderboard

The scores from last week have been added to tonight to give each couple a combined score out of 80.

The leaderboard is:

Jody and Jowita - 37

Layton and Nikita get 36!!!

For the second week in a row, Strictly producers saved the best for last, with Layton and Nikita delivering the dance of the night, which Craig described as 'incredible.'

What a score as wekk - 36 out of 40...in week two!

Shirley - 9

Layton and Nikita - just wow!

Are we really in week two?!!! The Strictly house was brought down by that AMAZING Quickstep!! Wow

Angela R and Kai score 31

They got an impressive 28 last week and this week Angela R and Kai have gone even better by getting 31, as Shirley told Angela she had the 'best frame of the night.'

Shirley - 7

Angela S and Carlos score 29

A very good scoreof 29 for Angela and Kai and one which many fans actually believe should have been higher!

Angela R and Kai do the Foxtrot

After a dazzling debut last week and THAT leg lift, TV legend Angela Rippon is dropping the tempo this week, to do a foxtrot to Frank Sinatra's You Make Me Feel So Young, alongside pro partner Kai Widdrington.

Back to the 90s for Angela S and Carlos' jive

Never ever thought we'd get a jive on Strictly to Shampoo's 90s hit Trouble but Angela S and Carlos have just made it happen!

Zara and Graziano get 23 for their Quickstep

A not too shabby 23 out of 40 for ex Love Islander Zara and pro Graziano, with Craig telling Zara she had "so much potential."

Shirley - 5

Eddie and Karen score 21

A real mixed bag of scores there as Eddie and Karen get 21 but just a 3 from Craig

Krishnan and Lauren score 20

It's 20 for Krishan and Lauren for their foxtrot

Amanda and Giovanni get 32

There's a new couple at the top of the week leaderboard after Amanda and Giovanni scored a brilliant 32 out of 40

Shirley - 8

A sizzling salsa from Amanda and Giovanni

That samba was HOT!!! It had passion, party and amazing lifts.

Adam and Luba get 23

Four more than last week for Adam and Luba as they score 23 out of 40, with Motsi saying she felt like she was watching 'a diffrerent' Adam and Craig saying he was impressed with the 'drama' of the dance.

Tango for Adam and Luba

Adam and Luba scored 19 in week one and are hoping to build on that as they return to the ballroom with a tango to Somebody Told Me by Måneskin

Les and Nancy score 15

Les and Nancy's score has taken a slight dip compared to last week, with them scoring 15, compared to 16 this time last week. If they thought a 3 from Craig was harsh week, he on gave a 2 this time!

Shirley - 4

Nikita and Gorka score 18

Craig told Nikita her Charleston was 'limp and lacklustre' while Motsi and Anton said she was much improved from last week and Shirley said she felt like she was watching a different person, describing Nikita as 'terrified' in week one.

Nikita and Gorka do the Charleston

A massive change of tempo from seven days ago for Nikita and Gorka as they perform a Charleston to Single Ladies by Beyonce.

Nigel and Katya score 27

Not the glowing feedback from seven days ago for Nigel and Katya as Craig Revel-Horwood branded Shirley Ballas 'picky' for homing in on some of the 'techincal issues' with the routine.

Craig praised Nigel for having the ability to 'draw people in' with his performances, telling him: "People who watched at home will want to vote for that."

Shirley - 6

Nigel and Katya are next

They were top of the leaderborad last week thanks to their amazing paso doble, which scored a very impressive 32 out of 40.

This weekend it's the vienesse waltz for the couple, with them dancing to Stephen Sanchez's Until I Found You

Ellie and Vito score 31

Ellie got plenty of praise for her posture with Shirley telling her she was on 'a good track.'

Anton described the Foxtrot as 'bright' telling Ellie and Vito the dance was 'just great.' Craig told them the routine was 'bordering on being an American Smooth' while admitting he "absoutely loved it."

Their total of 31 is two marks higher than last week

Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola are next

They made a very impressive start to the competition last week and there's a big change in tempo for Ellie and Vito this week, as they swap the jive for a Foxtrot to Fairground Attraction's Perfect

Jody and Jowita score 16

After some rather underwhelming comments, the judges have scored Jody and Jowita just 16 out of 40

Jody and Jowita rock out

A paso doble to a rock anthem for the second week in a row as Jody and Jowita dance to Thunderstruck by AC/DC

Annabel and Johannes score 22

Craig told Annabel there were moments in the performance that she looked 'absolutely terrified' with Motsi also commenting on the former tennis player's nerves, adding: "You need to trust yourself that when you're on the dancefloor, it's going to work out," urging her not to hold back.

Their scores were:

Annabel and Johannes next up

They scores 28 for their cha cha cha last week and this week it's the Quickstep for Annabel Croft and Johannes Radebe.

Their routine, set in a giant ball pit, will be to Katrina and the Waves classic Walking on Sunshine

Ellie Leach wins Strictly Come Dancing

Soap star Ellie Leach, 22, has become the youngest winner of Strictly Come Dancing with her professional partner Vito Coppola.

Les Dennis lifted onto dance floor on giant glittery anchor

Former Family Fortunes host Les Dennis was lifted onto the Strictly dance floor via a giant glittery anchor for the series’ final group performance.

Elsewhere, broadcaster Angela Rippon showed off one of her famous high leg kicks while the rest of the Strictly professionals and celebrities danced in the background.

Layton: Winning would be a celebration of everybody that is different

Layton Williams said that if he wins Strictly Come Dancing, it will be a “celebration of everybody that is different”.

The stage and screen star spoke following his last performance on the BBC One dance show with his professional partner Nikita Kuzmin.

Asked what winning would mean to him, the 29-year-old said: “I think if we won it would be a massive celebration of everybody that is different, anybody that feels like they didn’t fit in – and this would be a celebration of them people and to say you can use your difference as your superpower.”

The couple were awarded full marks from the judges for their Argentine tango to Tattoo by Loreen, which they chose to perform as their favourite dance.

Bobby last dance described as “extraordinarily beautiful”

Bobby Brazier’s last dance on Strictly was described as “beautiful” after he performed a routine dedicated to his late mother Jade Goody, who died of cervical cancer in 2009.

The dance, which Brazier has performed on the show once before, left his partner Dianne Buswell in tears, as well as his father Jeff Brazier – who was sitting in the audience.

Head judge Shirley Ballas told the EastEnders star: “Loss is such a personal thing and I know you were a young boy when that happened, but it’s forever here in your heart.”

Ballas said the dance was “extraordinarily beautiful” and the pair were awarded 39 points from the judges.

Anton Du Beke emotional after Ellie's last dance

Anton Du Beke said he was getting emotional as he told Ellie Leach he was “proud” of her on Strictly Come Dancing.

The soap star, 22, and her professional dance partner Vito Coppola chose to perform the American smooth as their last routine during the show’s final.

After dancing to the song Ain’t That A Kick In The Head in the style of Robbie Williams, the couple were awarded 40 points.

Du Beke said: “Why am I getting emotional? I can’t help myself.”

He added: “The joy of sitting here, I get to watch you and follow you and try and encourage you and everybody else here – and nothing makes me more proud than to see you pull this off in a mature, wonderful way.”

Layton 'showing off' with his second dance of the night

Layton Williams was told he was “showing off” after he performed his second dance of the night during the Strictly live final.

The Bad Education star, 29, performed a show dance to Friend Like Me in the style of Ne-Yo with his professional dance partner Nikita Kuzmin.

Speaking about his dance, judge Anton Du Beke told Williams: “It’s sort of ridiculous, to be honest with you, it’s showing off.”

The couple were awarded 39 points by the judges.

Thanking his supporters after his dance, Williams said: “When I joined this competition I was warned a lot and I thought a lot that I would really (be) having to fight for my place here every single week.

“And I… I’m so grateful to everyone that’s picked up a phone and voted for us.”

Ellie praised for taking risk

Ellie Leach was praised for taking a “risk” with a lift during the Strictly final.

The TV star performed her second dance, a show dance to a Jennifer Lopez megamix, alongside her dance partner Vito Coppola.

Craig Revel Horwood told Leach: “It’s a terrible shame with the last lift because really that whole dance routine was just flawless up until that moment.

“That’s the sort of beauty of live television, I think, and proving that taking a risk can or can’t work out for you.”

The couple were awarded 36 points from the judges.

Full marks for Layton

Layton Williams was awarded full marks after he performed his first dance of the night during the Strictly Come Dancing final.

The 29-year-old stage and screen star and his professional dance partner, Nikita Kuzmin, revisited their quickstep to Puttin’ On The Ritz, as chosen for them by the judges.

The couple received the first full marks of the night and the judges discussed the improvements Williams had made since he first performed the routine in week two of the competition.

Anton Du Beke said: “We chose this dance because we wanted you to improve it, you’ve improved it out of sight.”

Bobby Brazier called the “king of Latin ballroom”

Bobby Brazier was called the “king of Latin ballroom” following his first dance on the Strictly Come Dancing final.

The 20-year-old soap star performed a samba to Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton with his professional partner Dianne Buswell, as chosen for them by the judges.

Speaking about the dance, judge Craig Revel Horwood told Brazier “I saw a vast improvement”, adding: “Those hips were hip-tastic.”

Elsewhere, head judge Shirley Ballas said she had given him the title “king of Latin” and added that he danced from his “heart”.

Ellie and Vito's first dance scores

Ellie Leach was awarded 39 points from the judges after she performed her first dance during the Strictly Come Dancing final.

The 22-year-old TV star performed a dramatic paso doble to Insomnia by 2WEI with her dance partner Vito Coppola, as chosen for them by the judges.

After their performance, head judge Shirley Ballas said: “You, my dear, are the only lady standing and let me tell you, you came down those stairs, you worked that dress, the whole ensemble… was spot on.

“I have to say, that was a woman in control.”

Anton Du Beke added “I love this” and Craig Revel Horwood said “it was absolutely fantastic”.

Tyler West, whose time on the TV series came to an end in the Blackpool special said: “I never realized how much dance would change my life but I can’t express how much I’ve loved it and fully embraced this opportunity to learn to dance with the best dance partner anyone could ask for in Dianne! I am buzzing to get on the road with the gang.”

Strictly Come Dancing The Live Tour: Nottingham fans blown away by 'fantastic' show

The Live Show was won by actor Will Mellor

Ecstatic Strictly Come Dancing fans were left stunned by a "fantastic" show as the beloved ballroom extravaganza returned to Nottingham for the second time in as many days in a thrilling show. Dance enthusiasts were at the city's Motorpoint Arena on Wednesday (January 25) with thousands exiting the venue after the matinee show which ended, after four hours, at 5pm.

Some excited fans were seen wearing sequin outfits matching the eight glitterballs hanging from the ceiling inside the venue and glamorous decor. Strictly favourites Will Mellor and Nancy Xu were the evenings winner, and "deservedly so" according to giddy fans who had just watched the showpiece.

Reigning Strictly champs Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal were also among the contestants, with Helen Skelton and Fleur East joining as part of an all-star lineup.

Anton Du Beke joined fellow judges Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel-Horwood for the first time on a Strictly live tour. The third and final Live Show in two days began at 6pm, so staff were on hand to get fans into and out of the arena.

Marie Willmott, 54, who watches the show on TV "all the time", said: "It was absolutely fantastic. To watch them from where they were at the start to where they are now - they look like professionals - it's just amazing.

"Definitely worth the entry fee. Will Mellor won - he fully deserved it.

"We watch it all the time so to be here was lovely."

A season ticket to Motorpoint Arena shows is up for grabs

Sally Harrison, 57, said: "We loved it. I've been watching it for years and we were excited to come - it lived up to expectations, no doubt."

Elena Rothie, 57, came to watch the show from Derbyshire, she said: "Oh it was fantastic. We all had a really great time.

"We watch it as a family whenever it's on so we were quick onto the tickets as soon as we knew the dates! It's just like it is on TV really - very glitzy.

"It's actually the best I've ever seen them all perform, they were bloody fantastic. I was close to tears at one point because I've been watching it all the way through.

"It can get emotional. We'll be coming back next year if we can."

With Nottingham Forest's League Cup semi final match against Manchester United at 8pm, fans were warned throughout the day about traffic issues after the show.

61-year-old Alan Palmer lives in Beeston and attended the show with his wife. He said: "I'm not a massive fan of it but they put on a fantastic show. It was really really great.

"My wife watches it whenever it's on and catch it here and there. I wasn't too thrilled about coming if I'm being honest but I'm glad I came along.

"I didn't really have a choice! But no it was a really spectacular show that they put on.

"It was definitely worth the money."

Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin’s 40-point paso doble.

It's the Golden Glitterballs (theatrical edition)

Who needs standing ovations or bouquets of flowers? Here are this week’s gong-getters…

Best dance: Layton’s paso by some distance. Ellie slightly disappointed. Those two are streets ahead of the rest, though.

Worst dance: Annabel’s scored a point fewer than Bobby’s but was arguably better. Too soon to say Nigel’s because he got dropped in rehearsal and ended up in A&E?

Best music choice: Backstage Romance was fun but it’s got to be the all-time classic that is (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life. Spaghetti arms!

Worst music choice: That mess from Wicked with clashing vocals and guitar too high in the mix. My ears. My precious tiny ears.

Best outfit: She wasn’t actually dancing but Katya looked a-may-zing in her black fitted interview frock with corset top.

Worst outfit: Ellie’s Belle frock was a little drab. Annabel was green but not with envy.

Best judges’ comment: Craig reminding Annabel that she’s the only non-performer left in the contest. A good point, well made. powerful. Also, him telling Ellie: “Multiple partners, lucky girl.”

Worst VT: Layton calling out “the haterz” – understandable but getting repetitive and perhaps counter-productive. Bobby and Di’s Dirty Dancing one was sweet, though.

Best Claudia quip: Waiting patiently for Vito to stop wibbling on, before saying “It’s literally Tuesday.”

Hands up who’s already online, booking tickets for Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical? Oh.

Curtain comes down

Tess and Claud get into hold, sort of, and tell us to “Keeeeeep dancing!”. As the credits roll, please stay with us for analysis, reaction and a round-up of your comments.

There is a results show tomorrow

It’s official. There had been rumours there wouldn’t be but the Sunday night show goes ahead as normal. Albeit without any actual results. Should be… interesting.

That truncated leaderboard in full:

Layton & Nikita – 40 points

Ellie & Vito - 36 points

Bobby & Dianne – 34 points

Annabel & Jojo – 33 points

Those scores will be carried over to next week.

Suck on a Fisherman's Friend

The cast of new musical Fisherman’s Friends arrive to fill some airtime. Sorry, to sing an improvised song based on the Drunken Sailor. I feel like I’m on Nigel’s painkillers.

Judges’ scores: 8, 8, 9, 9 for a total of 34 points. Second from bottom. Dianne says she’s never trusted any of the pros to do that lift. That might make things awkward at the Hoofers AGM. Bobby thinks they’ve done it better.

Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell.

Judges’ comments for Bobby and Dianne: Motsi says “a big number but you were ready for it, nerves disappeared, connected and rhythmic”. Shirley says “you led impressively, rhythm in your body, clear foot placement, delightful, well done”. Anton says “she staye up for THAT moment, pulled it off with style and panache, terrific number”. Craig concludes “the lift failed, you were too far down on her hip but one of your strongest performances to date”. Nines a-coming?

Bobby and Dianne’s big lift

Bobby and Dianne’s salsa

After last week’s weepy Couple’s Choice, they change gears with a spicy party dance. Not the most original choice – previous Dirty Dancing salsas have been performed by Louis Smith and Ashley Roberts. Natsha Kaplinksy and Pamela Stephenson also did their showdances to the song. Bobby’s in a Sir Patrick Of Swayze black tribute vest, Dianne’s in Jennifer Grey’s pink 60s frock. Nobody puts Buswell in the corner. Will she carry a watermelon? In training, yes. For the first time since his Halloween cha-cha, Bobby “Swayzier” is unleashing his flexible hips. You have to take risks at this stage of the contest, so they’re pushing themselves with plenty of lifts and tricks. He’s been working hard on his footwork and hand-shaping after previous criticism from the judges. Hesitant footwork and slightly rushes moves but lifts, tricks and loads of fun. They end, of course, on *that* lift? You know the one. Health and safety nightmare, slight wobble but successfully landed and a big finish. Aww.

Song: (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life from Dirty Dancing. Another film before it was a stage musical, which might vex a few purists. The 1987 anthem, recorded by Bill “Righteous Brothers” Medley and Jennifer Warnes, won an Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe. Composer Franke Previte originally turned down the offer to co-write the film’s soundtrack because he thought from the title that it was a porno. He also went on to write Hungry Eyes for it. A Lionel Richie song was originally planned for the film’s finale but this was rightly preferred. And I owe it all to you.

Bobby and Dianne.

Judges’ scores: 10, 10, 10, 10 for a total of 40 points. First maximum of the series. Layton admits he was down on Monday, post dance-off, and its’ been a difficult week but that makes it all worthwhile. Chaos in the Clauditorium. Hugs. Cheering. Tears. Well done to Layton and Nikita. That’s what you call bouncebackabilityTM.

Layton and Nikita.

It's time to dust off those scoring paddles and get those dancing shoes ready, because the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour is back for 2024!

Strictly legends Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, and Craig Revel Horwood return to take up their judging seats and It Takes Two ’s Janette Manrara is back as tour host.

The Strictly Live Tour will dazzle audiences in January and February next year at arenas up and down the UK for 30 scintillating shows. Tickets will go on sale at 10.00am on Friday 22 September from StrictlyComeDancingLive.com .

The tour will open at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena on 19 January for the first of five spectacular performances. Then the glitz, the glamour and the sequins, together with the all-important celebrity contestants and their professional dancer partners, will travel to some of the UK’s biggest entertainment venues leaving a trail of glitter in their wake: Utilita Arena Sheffield, Utilita Arena Newcastle, OVO Hydro Glasgow, M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, First Direct Arena Leeds, AO Arena Manchester, Motorpoint Arena Nottingham and finally The O2 in London, culminating on 11 February.

Directing the Strictly Live Tour is TV Judge Craig Revel Horwood, who will once again be creating a dance extravaganza like no other, featuring a stellar line-up of talent from the current series of the smash hit BBC show, recently named Best Talent Show at the 2023 National Television Awards. And of course, the Strictly Live Tour Band and singers will be wowing arena audiences with their show-stopping tunes and harmonies. Celebrities and professional dancers joining the tour will be announced soon.

Strictly’s Head Judge Shirley Ballas said: “I’m delighted to be judging the Strictly Live Tour once again - there is never a dull moment alongside Anton and Craig! The audiences are always electric, the atmosphere is amazing, and Anton has promised me lots of surprises! I can’t wait for January next year when we get the show on the road!”

Anton Du Beke said: "It was my first Strictly tour earlier this year and I was blown away by the scale and spectacle of the live experience. So, I'm thrilled to be back with all the gang next year and look forward to another incredible tour."

Craig Revel Horwood said: “ What better way to start the new year than with the Strictly Live Tour! It’s going to be gorgeous to be back on the road with Shirley, Anton, and Janette. Joining us to entertain you all will be an A-MAZ-ING line-up of celebrities and professional dancers from this year’s series. And, as you would expect, we will have a few extra special surprises in store for the arena audiences along the way. One word, three syllables - FAB-U-LOUS!”

Janette Manrara said: “What an incredible way to kick off 2024! I am always so honoured to host the live tour as it brings everything that viewers love about the Strictly TV show to thousands of people around the UK. It’s a great night out for all the family - I just can’t wait!”

Strictly Come Dancing returned to BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday 16 September for its 21 st series with an all-new exciting celebrity and pro dancer line-up and an array of incredible dance routines. Strictly's Live Tour celebrates all the joy of the TV series, showcasing the amazing choreography and fantastic live music that Strictly is synonymous with – providing audiences of all ages up and down the country the opportunity to experience everything they love about the TV show live on stage in their hometown or city.

Not only are the arena audiences treated to the spectacular roof-raising routines, but they are also granted the power to decide who wins the coveted Glitterball Trophy at the end of each show. The tour judges will of course provide their invaluable wisdom, advice and scores at each performance - we couldn’t stop them if we tried - but the ultimate power lies with the audience. A text for their favourite couple is all it takes; their votes will decide who wins!

As with the 2023 tour, each performance will host a British Sign Language interpreter, who will be displayed on two very large screens on either side of the stage so that audiences can book tickets and sit almost anywhere in the arena to enjoy the experience with family and friends.
