Heartbreaking update on young Swiftie fan

Taylor Swift took to the stage in Australia for the last time on Monday night as part of her record-breaking Eras Tour with one final show in Sydney.

The singer’s four-night stint at Sydney’s Accor Stadium followed on from her performances in Melbourne a week ago.

Swift has entertained a whopping 300,000 fans over the course of her string of shows.

And the final night at the Accor Stadium in Sydney did not disappoint the US megastar.

“Looking at this crowd, the biggest crowd we’ve had at our four shows here!” Swift told the heaving stadium after taking the spotlight.

That’s a wrap!

Taylor Swift has taken her final bow in Sydney for this tour and exited the stage to an impressive fireworks display.

We’ll miss you Taylor, don’t leave it so long next time!

Swift delights fans with mashups

Taylor Swift sent fans into meltdown after performing mashups of “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve” and “Ivy” and “Forever & Always” and “Maroon”.

The star has delighted Aussie fans with a series of mashups over the course of her shows in Melbourne and Sydney, sparking envy from overseas.

“Australia, what does it feel like to be Taylor’s favourite child?” one disgruntled fan wrote on social media.

Swiftie’s classic Sydney train blunder

One Swiftie has shared their pain after arriving at the wrong location for tonight’s show. Sally Obermeder posted a video of herself at an empty Homebush station after assuming that was where she needed to get off.

The actual station that will be flooded with fans is Olympic Park, roughly 3km away.

“I am more big picture,” she said. “Sometimes I skim the details. And then I end up in these situations - I got off at Homebush. Because that’s what I thought when people said ‘Taylor Swift is performing at Homebush’.”

Envious fans on Australia’s ‘special treatment’

Outraged Taylor Swift fans have called out Australia online for special treatment from the pop superstar, with some of her most popular songs getting exclusive mashups on her Eras Tour Down Under.

On Sunday night in Sydney, Swift performed an exclusive mashup of her two songs Haunted and Exile to roaring applause and millions of views online.

This is the second time she’s performed Exile during her concert tour, with Swift telling Australian audiences that she’d start repeating some of the unique “surprise” songs that she’d played each night.

“Australia has won the Eras Tour,” one commenter wrote on TikTok to 19,000 likes.

Swift takes the stage again

“You’re out here making me feel like I’m the first artist to play four shows at Accor Stadium!” Swift said after taking the stage.

“I guess what I’m trying to say is that you make me feel like the man.”

At which point she launched into The Man , with much of the crowd singing along, followed by You Need To Calm Down . Then she addressed the crowd again.

“Well I am absolutely delighted to say these words to you. Sydney: welcome to the Eras Tour! This is our final night of four. And we have had the most wonderful time, I’ve got to tell you that,” Swift said.

“You are here in one of the most exciting cities in the world, and you chose to hang out with us. Thanks guys!

“You might be wondering if we ever get tired. A three-and-a-half hour show - I don’t know if anyone told you that, buckle up - the answer is no.

“Here’s what happens in our last show in a city. We have been saving our energy for you.”

Fan’s desperate last-minute act pays off

For every thousand tales of people desperately refreshing Ticketek’s website to no avail, there is at least one lucky fan who managed to snap up last-minute tickets.

“I actually can’t believe it,” one TikTok user, Jasmine, told her followers in a post today, saying “sneaky Ticketek” had quietly uploaded more tickets.

“At like 11.30 last night, I got B Reserve tickets to Taylor Swift because they went online at Ticketek. How crazy is that?

“I’m so excited.”

At the time, she advised people who still hoped to attend Swift's last Sydney show to keep trying the Ticketek site. Granted, it’s a little late for that now.

Swift support act proves controversial

Before Swift hits the stage, her support act Sabrina Carpenter will entertain fans with some of her biggest pop bangers.

All eyes will be on Carpenter, who has proved to be quite the controversial opening act after she sang some highly-sexualised lyrics in front of some of Swift’s younger fans.

Near the end of her set, Carpenter performs her hit Nonsense and changes some of lyrics in the final chorus to pay tribute to whichever city she’s singing in at the time.

More Coverage

In the original track, Carpenter sings: “This song catchier than chickenpox is, I bet your house is where my other sock is, woke up this morning and thought I’d write a pop hit. How quickly can you take your clothes off – pop quiz?”

Carpenter’s lyrical alterations have been growing increasingly risqué since she began performing on the Eras Tour, but her Aussie performances might just be her sauciest yet.

In Sydney on Saturday night, Carpenter continued to stir up controversy when she changed the lyrics to: “When you go down under, do you miss me? He’s so big I felt it in my kidney, screamed so loud they heard it here in Sydney.”

This is savage. One of the biggest rappers of the 21st century just performed to a near-empty arena meant to house 10,000 screaming fans.

An R&B hitmaker and three-time Grammy Award winner has announced he will bring his global tour to Australia later this year.

The father of a young Swiftie who fulfilled her dying wish to meet the pop superstar during her Eras tour has issued a heartbreaking update on his little girl’s health.

Taylor Swift in Sydney: Eras Tour tickets, times, set list & everything you need to know

Your ultimate guide to Taylor Swift shows in Sydney

Taylor Swift is in Sydney. She arrived during Monday's huge thunder storm that caused havoc around Sydney – and ever since, she's been causing a Taylor storm, stepping out at restaurants and the zoo – and yesterday, just a day before her first Sydney show, she's released MORE additional tickets .

It looks like those of us who have tickets are in for a real treat when she hits the stage at  Accor Stadium  in  Sydney Olympic Park  for four nights this week, from Friday, February 23 to Monday, February 26.  Time Out Melbourne Editor Leah Glynn was at one of her Melbourne shows, and says, "Believe the hype, folks. Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is everything you are hoping it to be: magical, emotional, spectacular, transformative. It's three-and-a-half hours of pure musical joy, best enjoyed with 96,000 of your closest friends (the stadium atmosphere at the MCG was unlike anything I've ever experienced before). I laughed, I cried, I sang and danced my little heart out – and I'd do it all again if anyone has a spare ticket. All hail, Queen Taylor."

If you were lucky enough to nab a ticket, here's everything you need to know about her Sydney shows...

When is Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Sydney?

Tay Tay will take to the stage at Accor Stadium (after hitting Melbourne up for three shows) for her first Sydney Eras Tour concert on Friday, February 23. She will also perform on Saturday 24, Sunday 25 and Monday 26 before heading to Singapore to sing her heart out for a whole SIX shows. ( Here’s where Taylor Swift is staying in Sydney and all the places she could be eating at .)

What time will Taylor Swift come on stage?

All gates to Accor Stadium will open at 4.30pm... for those people who are reaaaaally keen to get in early to secure some merch . However, every single seat at the Sydney nights of the Eras Tour is assigned, which means there’s no point rocking up super early to get a spot in the (non-existent) mosh pit.

The music will kick off at 6.20pm, with pop princess Sabrina Carpenter as the opening act. We can’t be 100 per cent sure exactly what time Taylor will come on stage, but all signs point to around 7.30pm or 8pm at the latest.

What can I bring to Taylor Swift Sydney?

There are specific rules for what you can and can’t bring to Taylors Eras Tour in Sydney. Here are the main things to remember:

You can bring:

  • One bag with a maximum of two compartments, smaller than A4 size. It doesn’t need to be clear, in case you were wondering.
  • Friendship bracelets (of course), but you're meant to wear them on your arms!
  • A rain poncho
  • A portable charger smaller than the size of your phone
  • Sunscreen, but not the aerosol kind
  • A sealed, clear, soft plastic water bottle no larger than 600ml

You can’t bring:

  • Outside food
  • D-rings or carabiners for friendship bracelets
  • Signs bigger than 28 x 45cm
  • Studded jewellery (sorry Rep girlies)
  • Metal or hard plastic containers

Are there any Taylor Swift Sydney tickets left?

This won’t come as a shock to anyone, but demand for Taylor Swift tickets has been through the roof (and into the stratosphere, at this point). A  limited number of new Taylor Swift tickets  went on sale at 4pm on Thursday. Aside from the new tickets, resale through Ticketek Marketplace is your best bet – be wary of scams on other platforms!

What’s the full setlist for the Eras Tour?

The Eras Tour has a setlist like no other, spanning a staggering three hours (and 44 songs). Since the tour has already been travelling around the world, we mostly know what to expect, save for some nightly ‘surprise songs’. Here’s the Eras Tour setlist for Australia:

Who will be supporting Taylor Swift in Sydney?

Singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter ( who Taylor dined with at Pellegrino 2000 ) will be supporting Taylor on the Aussie leg of the Eras Tour. She's best known for hit songs 'Nonsense', 'Feather' and 'On My Way'. On Tuesday, February 13, a new batch of tickets dropped for the Sydney shows – as expected, they were snapped up quickly and sold out within hours. The tickets on sale were for seats with partially obscured views.

Here's the Accor Stadium seating map for Taylor Swift's Sydney shows.

Taylor Swift performs at Accor Stadium on Feb. 23, 2024 in Sydney, Australia.

Taylor Swift just finished one of the most massive legs of her touring career in Australia, playing for about 600,000 fans total across seven shows in the land down under. And at her final concert in Sydney’s Accor Stadium, the 34-year-old pop star shared Monday (Feb. 26) that she was blown away by the turnout.

All the Surprise Songs Taylor Swift Has Performed on The Eras Tour (So Far)

Trending on billboard.

“Here’s what happens in our last show in a city,” she added. “We have been saving our energy for you.”

Monday’s concert closes out four Eras shows at Accor, which followed Swift’s three-night stint at Melbourne’s Cricket Ground. The “Anti-Hero” singer’s Australian run featured announcements for both the “Bolter” and “Albatross” editions of her upcoming album The Tortured Poets Department , as well as several unprecedented mashups during her nightly surprise song sections. (At her finale concert in Sydney, she sang combos of “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve” and “Ivy,” and “Forever & Always” and “Maroon.”)

Swift’s Feb. 23 show marked the first Eras concert Travis Kelce has been able to attend since November, which the 14-time Grammy winner once again celebrated by changing her “Karma” lyrics to give the Kansas City Chiefs tight end a sweet shoutout. Instead of “Karma is the guy on the screen,” she belted, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs,” while Kelce danced along near VIP tentmates Katy Perry and Rita Ora.

Taylor Swift Breaks New Record on Tour

Taylor Swift is no stranger to breaking records, especially on her Eras world tour.

Her latest record-breaking effort came as the 14-time Grammy winner became the first person to perform four concerts at Sydney's Accor Stadium.

The stadium was built for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and has hosted the likes of A-list music stars such as Coldplay and The Weeknd.

taylor swift in concert

"Back-to-back-to-back-to-back. . . Taylor Swift tonight becomes the first artist to perform FOUR nights in a row at Accor Stadium 💜," the stadium revealed on its official X, formerly Twitter account.

Swift is down under for the Australian leg of her world record tour, and already smashed another huge milestone in the southern city of Melbourne.

There she played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for three nights to a crowd of 96,000 each night, per the MCG's website. Only Ed Sheeran managed to perform to more when he played two shows to a crowd of around 109,000 each night.

Eras made history in 2023 as the highest-grossing live music tour of all time, even though it was only about halfway complete.

  • Taylor Swift fans joke Travis Kelce will follow her into music
  • Taylor Swift fan's concert emergency goes viral
  • Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce's combined net worth will blow your mind

Swift's concert movie of the tour managed to smash box office records. It made $92 million in its first weekend and became the highest-grossing domestic concert film of all time just on those opening days.

It also made $26 million on the first day of advanced ticket sales , smashing the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame at $16 million.

This year has already been huge for Swift, who not only became the first person to win Album of the Year four times at the Grammys earlier this month, but in January became the first person to have five albums each with over 7 billion streams on Spotify.

Despite smashing more records in Australia, Swift's tour has not been without some drama.

Part of the stadium was evacuated on Friday because of lightning strikes nearby which caused a delay to the start of the show. Opening act Sabrina Carpenter was forced to ditch her set so Swift could still start on time.

"Stay undercover until further notice and follow venue screens and staff instructions," a post on the stadium's official X account read. "Stay safe and remember to be kind to those around you."

Taylor Swift Aussiefies the Eras Tour Set List

Portrait of Alejandra Gularte

Taylor Swift is having a ball in Australia. She’s hanging out at the Sydney Zoo with her boyfriend Travis Kelce, she’s creating her own mash-ups during the surprise set , and now her concert is fully embracing the power of an accent. “I have a very specific word that is my favorite word that you say in an Australian accent, and it’s the word ‘No,’” Swift teased during the acoustic set before singing a song that features it prominently. “The choice is yours; you can sing it American like me if you want, or you can just be yourselves, and you can say ‘ Should’ve Said Naur. ’” However, that wasn’t the only time the concert went down under. Opener and professional heels wearer Sabrina Carpenter added a “so saurrry for your loss” during “Feather,” a few nights after dancer Kameron Saunders let out a “naur” during “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” How much more Australian can the concert yet? At the next show, she’ll be throwing Vegemite during “Tolerate It” off the table.

Taylor Swift  and  Travis Kelce  are taking in the Sydney sights! The couple enjoyed a day together while getting up close and personal with some Aussie animals on Thursday.

The NFL superstar touched down in Australia earlier that day, joining the pop icon for her latest run of Eras Tour performances. But first, according to video shared by local station Channel 9 News , the duo was spotted on a private tour of the Sydney Zoo. The excursion reportedly marks Swift's second visit to the property in just two days.

In the shots , Swift and Kelce can be seen walking together with their arms wrapped around each other. The "Karma" singer dons a pink tank top and denim shorts. She wears her hair casually pulled back, accessorizing with sunglasses and clean white sneakers. Kelce also looked cool and casual in a black t-shirt and printed shorts, completing his look with a white hat and sneakers.

In one photo, Swift can be seen hand-feeding a kangaroo while Kelce pets the animal.

Swift is set to kick off a sold out four-night stint at Accor Stadium on Friday, after performing " the biggest show we've ever done " in front of 96,000 people in Melbourne last week.

On Monday, the pop star, 34, was spotted wearing a Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII Champs cap and  'TNT' bracelet as she boarded her flight to Sydney . Both the cap and the elevated friendship bracelet Swift wore were given to her by Kelce.

Since touching down in Sydney, Swift has been spotted hanging with her Eras Tour opener,  Sabrina Carpenter . On Tuesday, the duo was seen leaving dinner at Pellegrino 2000.

In a show of support, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end left Los Angles Tuesday evening before traveling to Hawaii, where he stayed overnight before boarding a private jet for Sydney to join Swift on tour. It's unclear when Kelce will make his way back to the U.S., or if he'll stay for all four of her shows.

Kelce's trip comes after his father, Ed Kelce, teased the idea of his son supporting his GRAMMY-winning girlfriend abroad now that he's got free time. Ed spoke to the  The Sydney Morning Herald  and shared that he had a conversation with his son following his Super Bowl win in Las Vegas, Nevada, earlier this month.

"I asked him, 'Are you going to take off for Sydney?' And he seemed keen," Ed shared, adding that his 34-year-old son "said he'd really like to see Sydney and Singapore."

In November,  Travis traveled to Buenos Aires , where he was spotted supporting Taylor, alongside her father, Scott Kingsley Swift, during night two of the Eras Tour at the Estadio Monumental.

Following her time in Sydney, Taylor is set to take the Eras Tour to Singapore to perform a run of six sold out shows from March 6-9.

ICYMI: Taylor Swift, Grimes and No Doubt are among the biggest surprises and flops of Coachella 2024

Collage of Taylor Swift, incognito mode with hat, Grimes DJ'ing in sunglasses and Gwen Stefani with Olivia Rodrigo.

Even if you spent the weekend couch-locked, live-streaming the first weekend of Coachella on YouTube, there's no way you caught everything that went on at the 2024 edition of the world-famous music festival, headlined by Lana Del Rey , Tyler, the Creator and Doja Cat .

We're here to point towards the funnier, weirder and "only at Coachella" moments. Grab your biodegradable glitter, sunglasses and bum bag: It's time to head to Indio, California — with a few bonus ICYMI entertainment stories, too.

This week's stories:

  • Make like Lana and get into a Coachella state of mind
  • Ryan Gosling says goodbye to Ken on SNL
  • Melbourne's NGV to host major Yayoi Kusama retrospective
  • Country sweetheart Chris Stapleton sells out Australian arena tour in a flash
  • Casey Donovan takes on Sister Act
  • Jimmy Buffett's tribute gig had more weird celeb crossovers than Coachella

All your Coachella talking points

The dust has settled on the first weekend of Coachella, the American music festival that always gets news feeds buzzing. And this year was no exception.

Here are the biggest hits and misses from the annual music pilgrimage to the Californian desert.

Grimes had a disastrous DJ set on Saturday night, with technical issues plaguing her performance to thousands of festival-goers and many, many more watching the online stream.

Evidently frustrated, shouting into the mic and attempting to explain the issues to the crowd, Grimes later issued an apology on X (the platform run by the father of her three children, Elon Musk).

Big-name reunions and surprise guests are both Coachella traditions, and No Doubt's highly anticipated comeback set on Saturday night combined both.

Performing together for the first time since 2015, the ska-pop band were joined by 21-year-old hit-maker Olivia Rodrigo , who leapt about on stage with frontwoman Gwen Stefani for a rendition of 2000 single Bathwater.

The rest of No Doubt's career-spanning set list contained all the hits — including Don't Speak, Just a Girl and Hey Baby. Here's hoping their reunion trail makes its way Down Under in future.

Not to be outdone in the special guest department, Tyler, the Creator's headlining set contained several surprises.

The hip hop visionary was joined by A$AP Rocky , American-Colombian sensation Kali Uchis , The Gap Band vocalist Charlie Wilson , and Childish Gambino (aka multi-award-winning multi-hyphenate Donald Glover).

On Friday night, Billie Eilish showed up during Lana Del Rey's headlining set — a meeting of alt-pop minds, with the former often citing the latter as a core influence. They finished by duetting on each other's breakthrough singles: Eilish's Ocean Eyes, then Del Rey's glamorous 2012 viral hit Video Games.

The collaboration was praised as a highlight of Del Rey's divisive set, with her sound issues, focus on syrupy ballads and laconic energy receiving mixed reviews .

Poor old Damon Albarn . The singer is no stranger to Coachella, but returning to the main stage fronting Britpop icons Blur , he struggled with a lack of crowd enthusiasm.

"You're never seeing us again, so you might as well f--king sing this," the increasingly irritated Albarn instructed during Blur's 1994 hit Boys & Girls.

The moment was described as "embarrassing"  and "painful" on social media, but others questioned the booking decision , noting how Blur are less familiar to US audiences and younger festival-goers .

A late addition to Coachella that aligned with the release of their new album Only God Was Above Us , indie-rock mainstays Vampire Weekend had the weekend's most unlikely guest: Paris Hilton .

Sporting a black cowgirl fit, the hotel heiress didn't sing, but instead appeared during an extended band-jam to play cornhole (what Americans call the lawn game where you throw bean bags through a hole in an angled wooden board).

"I haven't played this game since The Simple Life," Hilton told the crowd.

Speaking of things nobody had on their Coachella 2024 bingo card: Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce , were spotted with rapper Ice Spice enjoying a set from Australian DJ-producer Dom Dolla .

Closing the Sahara stage on Saturday, Dolla brought out Nelly Furtado to perform their 2023 single Eat Your Man, only for the pop star to take a tumble mid-song.

Despite an audible thud, she didn't miss a note. Furtado later shared on Instagram Stories that the fall was enough to injure her thumb.

"This Barbie likes to rave," she joked, giving a bloody thumbs up.

Ryan Gosling makes the whole SNL cast break

Saturday Night Live's 49th season has been a rollercoaster so far. For every Timothée Chalamet as Troye Sivan , we've also had Sydney Sweeney trying to make it with a dog .

But Ryan Gosling's return to studio 8H over the weekend delivered something SNL fans haven't witnessed in a very long time: a consistently funny episode.

Gosling, who was there to promote his new film The Fall Guy, devolved back into his Ken schtick to perform a cover of Taylor Swift's All Too Well. His Fall Guy co-star Emily Blunt tried to reign him in with some chair-breaking stunts, but eventually fell under Gosling's spell — resulting in the Barbenheimer reunion we didn't know we needed.

With three hosting spots under his belt, Gosling had a fat stack of beloved sketches to waltz out with during the night, and waltz they did.

First, it was Kate McKinnon returning as a deranged alien abductee that always gets the short end of the stick during the UFO ride. If you've ever wanted to watch a lesbian bat at Ryan Gosling's genitals with her nose like a dog in heat then you are in for a treat.

Then there was the return of Steven, who is tortured by the fact that, despite the Avatar films costing half-a-billion dollars to make, director James Cameron decided to go with bold Papyrus as the title font.

As much of a star as Gosling was on the night, the real highlight was the host and cast corpsing it up with the best of them, we can only assume much to the chagrin of Lorne Michaels . Gosling broke into barely concealed giggles during Alien Abduction, again peeling into panicked guffaws when his walrus moustache detached in another sketch.

Break of the night goes to Heidi Gardner, who didn't even try to hide her joyous laughter after getting a first glimpse of Mikey Day done up like Butt-Head (honourable mention to Gosling as Beavis).

Major Yayoi Kusama retrospective to open in Melbourne

A 95-year-old Japanese woman in a black and yellow patterned top and with vibrant red hair, sits among large colourful prints.

Famed Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama will mount a major retrospective at Melbourne's NGV International in December.

The exhibition — the largest exhibition of her work ever staged in Australia — will feature more than 180 of Kusama's works.

The 95-year-old artist is best known for her dynamic polka dot designs and trippy, immersive artworks. Her work plays with opposing notions of eternity and obliteration and this upcoming retrospective will showcase several of her hallucination-inspired immersive art rooms, designed to invite existential reflection.

"There are few artists working today with the global presence of Yayoi Kusama," director of the NGV Tony Ellwood said. "This world premiere NGV exclusive exhibition allows local audiences and visitors alike the chance to experience Kusama's practice in deeper and more profound ways than ever before."

Kusama has collaborated with the NGV to curate the retrospective, which will take over the entire ground floor, including the NGV's entrance water wall. It will feature several works that have never been exhibited in Australia, as well as the world premiere of Kusama's latest immersive work: an infinity mirror room.

It will run at NGV International from December 15 to April 21 2025.

Country superstar sells out six arena shows in no time

Please check in with the big country music fans in your life today.

Tickets for superstar Chris Stapleton 's first-ever Australian tour went on sale late last week and — much like we saw for other stars like Taylor Swift, Fred again.. and Luke Combs — they proved difficult to get.

Stapleton was originally scheduled to play three shows along the east coast, and ended up doubling that number before tickets went on sale to the general public on Friday. This wasn't enough to satisfy demand, however.

A black and white photo of a man with long hair and beard playing a guitar. He is wearing a jacket.

When those tickets went on sale, country fans experienced the familiar indignity of sitting in an online queue for hours, with some lucky folk scoring tickets to one of the six shows, and others wondering what they need to do to see the 10-time Grammy winner.

In news that will surprise no one, scalpers have already listed tickets on resale sites, some going for over $1,500 a pop. Here's hoping Stapleton can stick around and add a few more shows.

Casey Donovan confirmed for Sister Act cast

Hallelujah! Everybody's favourite murder-witness-turned-singing-nun is coming to Australia, with the stage show of Sister Act premiering in Sydney this August.

Made famous by the inimitable Whoopi Goldberg in the 1992 film, the iconic role of Deloris Van Cartier seems to be in good hands, with the announcement of Casey Donovan as lead.

"Growing up, Sister Act was one of the movies that I watched on repeat," says the singer and actor.

"I love the film and am truly honoured to be part of such an uplifting, joyful, fun and feel-good production featuring the brilliant original music by multiple Tony Award-winning composer Alan Menken."

Donovan was not only the youngest winner of Australian Idol at age 16, she has been a star of the ABC's New Year's Eve concerts, won ARIA and Deadly Awards, and starred in numerous musicals, from The Sapphires to &Juliet.

Filling the wimple of Mother Superior (played sternly but with a twinkle in her eye by Maggie Smith in the film) will be the beloved Genevieve Lemon , who has had a 40-plus-year career in Australian theatre, including Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Billy Elliot.

After its Sydney run, the show will travel to Melbourne in November. In the meantime, here are some nuns absolutely rocking out in the film, as a little treat:

Can you name all the celebrities in this video?

It seems like any celebrities too old for Coachella were at the tribute to the late great singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett at the Hollywood Bowl over the weekend.

The line-up for the tribute was immense —  Paul McCartney , Eagles , Zac Brown and more were on the bill — but this video of an all-in singalong of Buffett's 1977 smash Margaritaville really illustrates the star power in the house on the night.

As well as legendary musicians like Sheryl Crow , Angelique Kidjo and Jon Bon Jovi , we see film icons Harrison Ford , Judd Apatow , Steven Spielberg and Woody Harrelson paying tribute to the singer, who died last year of cancer, aged 76.

European cities hope jet-setting Taylor Swift fans will splash the cash for Eras tour

The superstar arrives in Europe next month – and Swifties, tourist boards and venues are already preparing

T im Brown, 44, and his wife, Marcella, 34, may not consider themselves bona fide “Swifties”, but when it was announced last June that Taylor Swift would be visiting their corner of the globe this summer they could not resist joining the scramble for a pair of tickets.

A post-pandemic appetite for live music events has fuelled huge worldwide interest in the American singer-songwriter’s Eras tour, which surpassed in $1bn sales in November to become the highest-grossing series of concerts in history.

The pop culture event of the summer will arrive in Europe next month, kicking off in Paris on 9 May and wrapping up in London on 20 August with 49 dates in between in Sweden, Ireland, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Austria, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The unique nature of the tour’s ticketing system, which was tweaked after a number of hitches last year, means there will be a mass movement of travelling fans who will not only be Swiftie in affiliation but swift-like in their willingness to travel across the continent.

In expectation of intense demand, Ticketmaster introduced a pre-registration system that rewarded some early applicants with access codes to the ticket sale proper, via staggered windows for each city.

Notionally designed to prioritise genuine fans over “scalpers” – people who buy and resell tickets for a quick profit – the pre-sales system also meant many fans registered for tickets in multiple destinations across Europe to increase their chances.

Taylor Swift performs on stage amid a sea of confetti

Tim and Marcella, who live in Norwich, registered not just for the nearest concerts – in London and Liverpool – but also in Amsterdam and Lisbon. The pair got lucky with a pair of €91 tickets in the Portuguese capital and have turned the trip into a weekend break. “I used to live in Lisbon so I thought why not kill two birds with one stone,” Tim said. “We booked ourselves flights and four nights’ accommodation the same day.” They are far from alone.

Katie Soo, the chief business officer of DICE, a rival ticketing company, said: “The excitement and uncertainty inherent in the ticket-purchasing process might have inadvertently incentivised fans to apply for tickets in multiple cities, thereby increasing the likelihood of travelling across Europe to attend the concerts.”

Hotel prices

Several European cities have already reported a sharp rise in demand for hotel and short-term rental accommodation over the summer, when the Swift hurricane will arrive. In Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cardiff, rooms at the Travelodge chain around Swift’s June dates have been sold out since August 2023, a month after tickets for the shows went on sale.

In Paris, where fans anticipate Swift to debut an updated version of the Eras show with songs from the new Tortured Poets Department album, 80% of hotels and apartments listed on Booking.com are already full up. In Warsaw on 2 August, only 9% of hotels listed on the same site are still available.

Not all of the 18 cities covered by the Eras tour are obvious tourism destinations. From 17-19 July, Swift will play three concerts at the 65,000-capacity home ground of the football club Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen in Ruhr valley, western Germany. The city’s less-than-familiar name prompted one US chatshow host to quip that “the place might not even exist”.

Yet even in Germany’s rust belt the influx of Swift fans is temporarily transforming the hotel market: any two-bedroom apartments that remain available are going for €800-2,000 a night, with cheaper accommodation available only in surrounding cities that are just as off the usual tourist track as Gelsenkirchen, such as Essen, Bochum or Herne.

Cities with stricter rules on allowing Airbnb-style holiday lets and a more limited stock of short-term rental apartments are reporting a particularly marked increase in rates during Swift’s visit, with about 30% year-on-year spikes in rental rates in Cardiff, Edinburgh and Milan, according to AirDNA, a data analytics company specialising in the short-term rentals market.

Of all the tour’s European stops, Vienna is experiencing the most notable impact on its rental market, with booking rates for the nights of Swift’s concerts recorded in February 44% higher than at the same point the previous year. By the end of March the number of nights booked in the Austrian capital for the length of Swift’s stay in the second week of August had risen by 430% compared with the same period in 2023.

When Luke Tilden’s wife, Tatjana, suggested last summer that the couple buy their 13- and 15-year-old daughters, Lena and Maya, tickets to a Taylor Swift gig for Christmas, the 53-year-old Briton initially waved it off. “There’s no chance in hell we’d get a ticket without paying through our noses, I thought,” said Tilden, who works as an interpreter at the European parliament in Strasbourg.

But after pre-registering for tickets in London, Paris and Munich, the Tildens got unexpectedly lucky for four tickets in southern Germany and have turned the concert visit into a mini-holiday: “We’ll visit the in-laws in Bavaria, enjoy the countryside, do a bit of hiking.”

The hope in cities across Europe is that this will be replicated on a massive scale, with fans’ excitement translating into generous spending sprees on food, shopping and leisure. In Stockholm, for example, where authorities are expecting 159,000 visitors to arrive from 135 countries in mid-May, the chamber of commerce has forecast a spending boost of €50m. “We hope the whole town will buzz from the Eras tour,” said Tomas Andersson, a spokesperson for the Swedish capital’s tourism board.

Whether fans will necessarily act like ordinary tourists, however, is up for debate. “Pop-culture tourists do not necessarily care about traditional buildings and authentic restaurants,” said Maria Lexhagen, a professor at the European Tourism Research Institute, Mid Sweden University.

“Joining up with other fan communities is stronger motivation, as is the idea that they might get closer to the stars themselves. Many of them will map out where Swift is spending her time in the city – they will seek out seemingly marginal but meaningful places like back alleys or coffee shops.” Venues may be hoping for a repeat of Sydney in February, when Swift swept into an unassuming Italian restaurant in the suburbs and sent its name into global media headlines.

A view of the exterior of Pellegrino 2000 in Sydney

In Stockholm the tourism board said it was expecting bookshops and secondhand clothes stores, rather than museums and royal palaces, to attract most of the arriving visitors. Some venues are being proactive: one restaurant within walking distance of the multipurpose Friends Arena in the Solna municipality is putting on a “Taylor Swift brunch experience” with a karaoke stage; the waterfront nightclub Debaser is hosting a pre-concert party on 16 May, an all-ages all-day party with a Swift-themed quiz on 19 May and an afterparty the day after.

Environment

As the Swift circus rolls across the continent, the transport infrastructure of urban centres will also be put to the test. Around the tour’s three-night stop in Dublin at the end of June, Irish Rail has announced additional late-night services to Cork and Limerick to meet an expected increase in demand. Extra tram and bus services are likely to be announced nearer the time.

Unlike rail operators, most airlines do not have capacity to charter additional flights. Due to yield management – airlines adjusting prices based on expected demand – a scramble for airborne journeys into cities that host the Eras tour is more likely to result in more expensive tickets rather than additional flights.

Officials at Lisbon airport said no additional flights had been chartered around Swift’s concerts on 24 and 25 May but that demand would probably be reflected in slightly higher load factors. A spokesperson for Amsterdam Schiphol said general aviation slots could be requested at short notice but nothing out of the ordinary had been logged so far.

Calculating the environmental impact of the tour with any certainty was difficult, experts said. “We can expect that some Swift fans will travel a long way to see one, if not several, shows across Europe”, said Stefan Gössling, a professor of tourism at Linnaeus University in Kalmar, Sweden. “But measuring the environmental impact of these trips is extremely difficult – it would involve a lot of guesswork.”

Swift fans queue to buy a merchandise

This did not mean the carbon footprint was negligible. “Every flight taken by a person adds to demand and hence influences supply considerations,” Gössling said. “The greater the demand, the more aircrafts are in service.”

The pop star’s carbon footprint is easier to estimate. Swift owns two jets by the French manufacturer Dassault, whose journeys are trackable. During the 2023 leg of the Eras tour, Swift’s planes spent 166 hours crisscrossing the US in about 75 individual journeys, though it is possible they were used by people other than the singer.

According to data available through the open-access aviation tracker ADS-B exchange, Swift’s jets caused carbon emissions of about 2,830 tonnes of CO 2 equivalent over the course of the US Eras tour – about 1,700 times the annual contribution of an average person.

A spokesperson for Swift told US media last year that in advance of the tour’s start in March 2023, the pop star bought more than double the carbon credits needed to offset all tour travel. Carbon offset credits are tradable certificates that allow purchasers to compensate for emissions by investing in environmental projects that claim to reduce carbon emissions, though recent studies have questioned the efficacy of these schemes.

Taylor Swift misheard lyrics: 10 funniest mix-ups from 'Blank Space' to 'Cruel Summer'

Swifties pride themselves on their unquestionable knowledge about anything related to Taylor Swift .

Whether decoding the clever Easter eggs she sneaks into Instagram posts or uncovering the link between her nail polish color and her dating life, her fervent fan base is well-schooled in the art of Taylor Tidbits.

But even the most ardent devotees can hear a lyric incorrectly, and, as the self-deprecating among us tend to do, can laugh (or would it be shake?) it off.

Travis Kelce’s mom, Donna, hands out sandwiches at ‘New Heights’ live show — just like Taylor Swift’s dad did at Eras Tour

Travis Kelce’s mom and Taylor Swift’s dad are kindred spirits.

Donna Kelce was seen sweetly handing out sandwiches to fans at her sons’ “New Heights” podcast live show in Cincinnati Thursday — similarly to how Scott Swift did for his daughter’s Eras Tour in Australia.

The Swift patriarch snagged headlines in February when he was spotted feeding Swifties fruit and sandwiches from a food tray in Sydney, and could be heard saying at the time, “Help yourselves.”

Donna Kelce.

Similarly, Donna, 71, passed out subs to 92 percenters — the name given to listeners of the “New Heights” podcast — while at Fifth Third Arena at the University of Cincinnati, which both her sons attended.

She could be heard in video obtained by Page Six, saying to fans, “Alright, here we go guys.”

However, unlike Scott, 72, the savvy businesswoman doled out sponsored sandwiches from Subway, as they were one of the official partners of the “New Heights Live: We Gotta Talk About It” show.

The fast food chain called the proud mom a “national treasure” via an Instagram Story from the event.

While at the event, Donna graciously posed for photos with fans, and at one point, stepped on the stage when Travis, 34, and Jason, 36, were honored with a surprise college graduation ceremony.

Donna has smartly profited from her newfound fame with several sponsored content deals.

Over the past year, her Instagram has been inundated with posts promoting everything from food dip to the official wine of the NFL to yummy pizza . She even got to go on a cruise once.

Despite somewhat reaping the benefits of Travis and Taylor’s high-profile romance , Donna has remained very respectful and avoided commenting when the media has tried to pry her for details.

In October 2023, she candidly said on the “Today” show, “I don’t like to talk about it,” adding, “It’s another thing that’s amped up my life.”

Behind closed doors, though, Donna and the rest of the Kelce clan has started to bond with the Swifts.

In December 2023, Ed was seen hanging out with Taylor, Scott and her mom, Andrea Swift, in a suite for a Chiefs versus the Las Vegas Raiders game.

All of the parents then flew out to Sin City for the big Super Bowl game in February to celebrate.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Were Filmed Kissing at Coachella

preview for Taylor Swift’s Iconic Career Evolution

On Saturday night, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce dropped by Coachella, dressed for an evening concert. The couple were wearing baseball caps and layered ensembles for the cooler Indio nights. Swift wore a black leather jacket and black shorts with sneakers and Kelce wore striped blue pants, a white T-shirt, and a flannel for warmth. Swift's green cap was repping her boyfriends podcast, reading, “New Heights.” Over one shoulder, she slung a black Logo Small Shoulder Bag from the Stella McCartney summer 2024 collection.

They walked through the crowd holding hands, smiling and laughing.

Later, the pair were filmed sharing a sweet kiss in the audience of Jack Antonoff's band Bleachers during their performance.

They were also spotted at Ice Spice's show, cheering for the rapper, who worked with Swift on her song “Karma.” Justin Bieber was also spotted in the crowd nearby.

“They vacationed in the Bahamas for several days,” said a source. “It was a much-needed break for both of them. They very much enjoyed it. They are so happy together.”

On the April 10 episode of New Heights , Kelce addressed all the new “Swifties” following the podcast and the attention he's gotten as Swift's boyfriend.

He began, “I think there’s just something that makes everyone feel like the world is like high school, where your most popular pop star beloved musician somehow how met your most popular beloved athlete and they actually fell in love and it’s just real. Anyone who hates on it is a bitter loser.”

“I don’t know how I did it because she wasn’t into sports, so I don’t know how the f--- I did it,” he added.

Taylor Swift's Coachella Look Featured a $43 Skirt with a Built-In Garter from a TikTok-Viral Brand

The star opted for a casual — yet subtly sexy — look while enjoying Ice Spice's set with boyfriend Travis Kelce

Taylor Swift is having fun with her Coachella style.

The 34-year-old singer attended the music festival outside Palm Springs, Calif. on Saturday, April 13 alongside Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, 34. In addition to sporting a dark green New Heights baseball cap to show support for her boyfriend's podcast with his brother Jason Kelce , the "Anti-Hero" singer embraced a laid back look with a black tank top, oversized leather blazer and black sneakers. The most surprising element of the ensemble was a black pleated miniskirt with a built-in garter.

Travis, meanwhile, wore an open plaid shirt over a white T-shirt with striped pants and white Chucks.

Swift’s skirt, the Breezeful™ 2-in-1 Skirt from TikTok-viral brand Halara, had a daring belted garter detail — a racy twist on Swift’s typical girl-next-door style. However, the item is as practical as it is sexy; not only is the garter adjustable to the perfect fit, but the skirt features stretchy fabric, built-in shorts for extra coverage and a side pocket for carrying small items.

The couple were also matching in Stella McCartney accessories . Swift wore a shoulder bag with the brand's logo across the strap while Travis opted for oversize square sunglasses .

Swift and Travis were spotted rocking their casual, sporty ensembles while supporting their famous friends at the festival. The couple danced and embraced in the crowd during Ice Spice 's set, along with Dom Dolla and Jungle's. They were also seen kissing during Bleacher's performance and hanging out with Sabrina Carpenter , who opened for some of Swift’s Eras Tour dates, and actor Barry Keoghan.

Prior to heading to Coachella, Swift and Travis were photographed leaving a sushi date night in Los Angeles on Friday, April 12. For the low-key dinner, the singer wore a red and white Kansas City Chiefs-esque jacket over a dark top and denim skirt.

Travis and Swift went public with their romance in September 2023 and have supported each other for various career milestones, including Travis’s 2024 Super Bowl win against the San Francisco 49ers. Travis has attended several dates of Swift’s ongoing Eras Tour and is set to accompany her on tour’s upcoming European leg.

The NFL star has also supported Swift by wearing beaded friendship bracelets that fans exchanged during the Eras Tour. On Thursday, April 11, the Travis and his brother Jason received their college diplomas at a “surprise commencement” ceremony at the University of Cincinnati during a live event for their podcast.

In a photo from the ceremony posted by the Cincinnati Bearcats on Instagram , Travis can be seen speaking into a microphone while red and white confetti falls around him. On his wrist are multiple bracelets, one of which looks very similar to the friendship bracelets that were swapped by fans during Swift’s tour. The bracelet appears to contain letter beads, but it’s not clear what it spells out.

Travis was previously seen wearing similar bracelets while supporting Swift at her concert in Sydney, Australia and at his brother’s NFL retirement press conference .
