PGA TOUR ANNOUNCES NEW OFFICIAL VODKA, TITO’S HANDMADE VODKA

August 30, 2021

Tito’s to bring its easy living spirit to PGA TOUR tournaments through new sponsorship

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLORIDA AND AUSTIN, TEXAS – Today, the PGA TOUR announced a new multi-year marketing sponsorship with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, the newly-minted “Official Vodka of the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions.” The five-year sponsorship will be highlighted by branded experiences at PGA TOUR tournaments featuring exciting new activations and signature cocktails crafted for fans. In addition to fresh experiences and cocktails, Love, Tito’s, the philanthropic heart of Tito’s Handmade Vodka, will engage in initiatives to increase its impact in communities where PGA TOUR events are held.

Tito’s got its start over 20 years ago in a one-room shack in Austin, Texas, with an approachability as big as the state it was born in. A world-class vodka with a modest paper label, no fancy bottle, and no eye-popping price tag.

“Go to any golf course clubhouse on a Saturday and it is almost impossible to find one that is not pouring a vodka cocktail behind the bar. Tito’s cocktails and golf have been a perfect match for years, so we’re thrilled to make the relationship official through our sponsorship with the PGA TOUR. With so many new players picking up clubs for the first time, it is perfect timing to work with the PGA TOUR to share the best moments of golf and competition with fans new and old, no matter their handicap,” said Taylor Berry, Tito’s Handmade Vodka VP of Brand Marketing. “With our collective dedication to community and philanthropy, we have no doubt that we will be able to make an impact on and off the course.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Tito’s to the PGA TOUR and partner with an organization that shares the TOUR’s commitment to giving back to communities across the country,” said Brian Oliver, PGA TOUR Executive Vice President of Corporate Partnerships. “The TOUR is always working to elevate the fan experience and is excited to partner with Tito’s to create good times and great memories for years to come.”

As part of the TOUR’s Official Marketing Partner program, Tito’s Handmade Vodka will host the Tito’s Stillhouse Lounge at select TOUR events throughout the season. Each activation will be infused with the brand’s Austin spirit and will give fans a way to experience tournaments with a taste of the good stuff by featuring Tito’s signature cocktail, the Tito’s Transfusion.

Tito’s Transfusion

  • 2 oz Tito’s Handmade Vodka
  • 2 oz ginger ale
  • 1 oz grape juice
  • ¼ oz lime juice
  • (Add all ingredients to a glass with ice. Garnish with a grape and lime slice)

Tito’s will support this new relationship by advertising on PGA TOUR social and digital platforms, as well as through charitable contributions and give-back programs in tournament markets.

Welcome to Austin!

Thanks all!

There's also Deep Eddy vodka in Dripping Springs. They have a tasting room with a window into their distillery -- no tours. On the last weekend of the month Deep Eddy Vodka has music and a food truck.

If you're just looking to tour some sort of distillery and it doesn't have to be vodka, I think the Garrison Brothers tour (link in post number 2 above) is excellent and you get a taste of their amazing bourbon at the end of it. Even at the Saturday price of $20, it's well worth it. The tour is interesting and informative and everyone there is so nice.

Austin’s distillery boom shows no signs of abating. With over 20 active spirit brands in Central Texas, local drinkers are visiting distilleries in more frequent numbers, and destination tasting rooms are on the rise.

Below are Austin’s spirit brands with regular public hours for distilleries and tours — opening hours and days sometimes vary seasonally, so call before heading out for the latest information. As always, and especially with spirits, designating a driver is a must.

Important note: Many Austin-based brands such as Genius Liquids, Playa Real Tequila, Dulce Vida Spirits, Texacello (Paula’s Texas Orange), Tito’s, and Tequila 512 do not currently have public-facing tasting rooms. This map will be updated should this change.

For those looking to learn more, Eater took a deeper loo k at how Austin distilleries make use of local ingredients in spirit production. For more drinking, there are the Austin-area’s best breweries and Central Texas wineries . In Austin, there are the best cocktail bars and hot new ones .

Three Lesser Known Austin Vodka Distilleries You Need To Check Out

tito's vodka austin tx tour

So to bring you up to speed, here are a few of our favorite up-and-coming Austin vodka makers out there right now…

Banner Distilling

Located just outside of Austin, in Manor, this small batch distillery was hand built by partners Logan Simpson and Tony Jimenez. After your first visit, you’ll fall in love with this vodka — and now they’re also making whiskey!

Banner Vodka has won numerous awards in its short history and is made from organic corn, wheat, sugar cane and  pure Texas rainwater for a clean finish.

Findlay’s Vodka

Made in a warehouse in a reflux still, Findlay’s offers two vodkas – Findlay’s Vodka (Premium) and Findlay’s Black Bee Vodka (Ultra Premium). Both are distilled from Texas honey – yes, honey! – while the premium also contains dark brown cane sugar. The taste as you can imagine is sweet and smooth.

Located in Round Rock, just north of Austin, this vodka is hand made by Frank Findlay Jr and family. From building the still to labeling the bottles, Frank does it all with the help of his dad, wife, and nieces. In production just a few years, this vodka is distinct and great chilled on the rocks.

Austin vodka

Also north of Austin in Pflugerville, ATX Vodka has come onto to Austin vodka scene strong. Owners Rob and Ruby Sangiovanni of Sangiovanni Distilling want to Keep Austin Drinking Local. You can find them participating at events and doing tastings themselves in liquor stores most weekends. Out in the market less than a year, they are making quite an impression.

All-to-Xcellence (ATX) is made from grain and is 10x distilled for a silky, spicy finish, with a hint of sweetness from the corn.

Austin vodka

All of these can be found at your local liquor stores for purchase. Cheers!

Garden Visit: Fourteen Acres Farm, the Ultimate On-the-Job Perk

Start typing to search....

Vodka and gardening? Not the first pairing that comes to mind, until you learn about the farm that Tito’s Handmade Vodka in Austin, Texas, has created. Each week, Tito’s employees can take home fresh produce, free of charge, while also enjoying lunch cooked on-site using produce from the farm. Recently, I chatted with Kathleen Kuper, Farm Director of Fourteen Acres Farm, to better understand the why, the how, and the future of this program.

Photography courtesy of Tito’s Handmade Vodka .

All the shared produce is grown in \16 high tunnels and 74 raised concrete beds.

The Farm was built for the Tito’s team at the distillery with the goal of creating an environment where fresh food was accessible and to encourage healthy eating. Kathleen shares, “At Tito’s Handmade Vodka, we’re always looking for ways to spread some good in our communities, and also with our employees. When we were thinking of ways that we could better serve our employees, we thought about increasing access to fresh, healthy foods, so we built the Fourteen Acres Farm.”

Farmer Adam Levine harvests radishes for the employee farmers market.

Now there is a weekly farmers market, bringing the farm’s offerings directly to employees where they can select the produce that interests them, as well as connect with farmers to learn recipes, cooking tips and tricks, and how the food is grown.

One of seven farmers at the Fourteen Acres Farm starts her day by harvesting fresh produce which makes its way to employees at the Tito&#8\2\17;s distillery.

Cultivated by a team of seven dedicated farmers, the farm has 74 raised concrete beds, 16 high tunnels, and produces over 25 types of seasonal fruits and vegetables, including artichokes, broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, melons, mixed greens, peppers and potatoes—with tomatoes being everyone’s favorite. Recently, the farm added vermiculture, and this fall the farmers will learn how to make bio-complete compost and liquid amendments with vermicompost, plus establish an in-house soil lab where they will conduct crop trials with more fruit, beginning with strawberries.

This past spring. farmers harvested fresh green beans, one of the many veggies grown.

After seeing the success of the Fourteen Acres Farm with their employees, Tito’s was inspired to start the Love, Tito’s Block to Block program which gives back to communities all across the country, one block at a time. Kathleen explains, “This program focuses on increasing access to fresh, healthy food. Through our Love, Tito’s Block to Block program, we team up with local nonprofits all across the country to build, expand, and enhance community gardens and farms.” Over the past few years, their program has supported more than 90 growing spaces all across the country, from small community gardens to large community farms. “By working with local non profits who know what the community needs, we’ve learned the incredible power of bringing people together through community gardening, as well as increasing the availability of fresh produce for those who need it the most.”

Cherry tomatoes are the top employee choice from the farm.

Fourteen Acres plans to expand their space to grow even more produce which would allow them to grow more varieties of fruits and vegetables. Kathleen adds, “We’re also looking to expand our programming with educational and interactive programs for our employees, beyond the recipe cards and ‘Tips & Tricks’ we’re currently providing.” Throughout the fall, the Love, Tito’s Block to Block program will continue improving farms and community gardens plus focus on building completely new garden spaces in over 30 cities, with the ultimate goal of bringing people together through access to fresh food and green spaces.

Six Austin-area soccer teams advance to the state tournament, most ever for Central Texas

Vandegrift's Emmy Aranda celebrates with teammates after scoring a goal against Round Rock earlier this season. Aranda scored a goal in Saturday's regional finals win over Edinburg North, which sent the Vipers to the UIL state soccer tournament. A record six Austin-area boys and girls teams made it to state.

Six Austin-area boys and girls soccer teams — a Central Texas record — will play in the UIL state tournament in Georgetown later this week after four girls teams and two boys squads won regional championships on Saturday.

The Vandegrift and Glenn boys teams will join the girls teams from Westlake, Rouse, Hendrickson and Salado on the pitch at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex.

The state tournament starts on Wednesday, with Salado (31-1) playing Boerne (22-1-3) in a Class 4A girls semifinal in the afternoon. An Austin-area doubleheader opens Thursday, when Hendrickson (21-3-2) plays undefeated Colleyville Heritage (23-0-2) followed by Rouse (20-4-3) vs. undefeated Frisco Wakeland (24-0-2) in the Class 5A girls semifinals. And the undefeated Glenn boys (29-0-1) play Frisco Wakeland (18-5-3) in the Class 5A semifinals later that afternoon. And on Friday, the Westlake girls (16-4-2) face Rockwall (21-3-2) in a Class 6A semifinal in the first match of the day, and the Vandegrift boys (22-2-2) play Lewisville Flower Mound (22-2-2) in a 6A semifinal in the final match of the day.

Two other Austin-area teams, the Leander and Georgetown girls, fell in Saturday's regional finals to fellow area district rivals. Round Rock and Giddings were regional semifinalists.

Sophomore goalkeeper is powering Westlake

Westlake beat San Antonio Taft 2-0 on Saturday — Taft's first loss of the season — to win its eighth straight match. Sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Martin notched her second straight regional clean sheet while Kate Grannis scored both of the Chaps' goals on a pair of assists by Carter Utkov.

The Chaps have peaked at the perfect time, using a tenacious defense with solid attacking front and skilled midfield ball control. And Martin, in her first year as a starter, has been superb in the nets.

“I could not be prouder of this team," Westlake coach Darci Carruthers said. "Everything they’ve done, they’ve done it together and they’ve done it with heart. Every player on our roster contributed to our success during this playoff run. It’s been fun and I love watching them play. We are not done yet. We’ve got two more to go.”

In Class 6A boys, Vandegrift shut out Edinburg North 3-0 as Charlie Reed had a clean sheet in the goal while Emmy Aranda, Luke Hawley, and Jason Panoff each scored goals.

Class 5A: three Austin-area teams make it to state

Lightning struck twice in Class 5A with a pair of district runners-up — Hendrickson and Rouse — knocking off their respective district's champions in the regional finals.

Rouse blanked Leander 3-0 as Ashley Perez, JJ Arellano and Shelby Wilson each notched solo goals to send the Raiders to state. And Hendrickson edged Georgetown 3-2 in a nail-biter; Kaylee McKinley scored twice, including a penalty kick, while Ava Black added a goal and Araceli Patterson notched an assist for Rouse.

“My players are amazing young women and I’m so proud they call me coach,” Rouse's Corey Elrod said.

The Glenn boys blanked Brownsville Lopez 2-0 in the Region IV-5A boys final as Tito Don Juan and John Gomez scored and Keller Marchant had the shutout. The Grizzlies remained undefeated.

America’s Original Craft Vodka

Tito’s Handmade Vodka is produced in Austin at Texas’ first operating, legal distillery.

Tito’s Handmade Vodka is America’s Original Craft Vodka. In 1995, Bert “Tito” Beveridge obtained the first legal permit to distill in Texas and created Tito’s Handmade Vodka. We batch distill our corn-based vodka using old-fashioned pot stills and the vodka is naturally Gluten-Free. Tito’s Handmade Vodka is distilled and bottled by Fifth Generation Inc. in Austin, Texas on the very same land where the whole venture started.

Tito Beveridge wasn’t always known as “the vodka guy.” Born and raised in San Antonio, Tito went to Vanderbilt for a year before returning to Texas to attend UT (University of Texas at Austin), where he graduated with degrees in geology and geophysics. After college he got into the oil and gas business. He did that in Texas, and then found himself down in Venezuela and Colombia running heli-portable dynamite seismic crews. He came back to Texas, again, and started a drilling company in Houston. Eventually he got “tired of chasing the buck,” and decided to move to Austin.

In Austin, Tito got into ground water geology, and then thought he would give the mortgage business a try. It was around this time, in ’92 or ’93, when he started making flavored vodka as gifts for friends. One night he was at a party and a stranger came up to him and said “Hey you’re the vodka guy,” and he said “No, contraire, I am the mortgage guy. “ But, that really got Tito thinking…

When mortgage rates went up a couple points, he started going to liquor stores to ask the owners and managers if they would buy his flavored vodkas. They all turned him down saying, “No, go look at all the dust on the shoulders of those bottles there!” But then they told Tito that if he could make a vodka that was so smooth you could drink it straight then he might have something.

So, naturally, Tito, who had never distilled anything in his life, asked them how one might do that. They said, “Well I don’t know, you’re the guy who wants to get in the vodka business!”

The original sign on the side of the shack gets increasingly weathered with wind, hailstorms, and each brutally hot Texas summer, but it's home sweet home.

Tito Beveridge taste-testing a bottle of his vodka. This one’s from a few years ago, but not much has changed.

So Tito set out to learn about how to distill. It was the mid-nineties, and pre-internet, so there really wasn’t any information readily available, and it almost seemed as though there had been a book burning at the library on any subject matter related to spirits and distilling. Eventually, through his research, Tito uncovered a bunch of pictures of old moonshiners and prohibition-era busts. He started building stills based on photos using copper pipe and a simple outdoor fryer for heat, and started cooking. He just kept messing with the still and the recipe until he found a process and a recipe that his friends seemed to like. “I basically just kinda kept working at it and working at it. We bought every vodka that was on the shelf, we put them in little mason jars and tasted all of them and came up with the two best ones. When mine consistently beat those two then I figured that I had my formula right.”

Tito Beveridge taking a break in front of the shack— surveying the scene, sipping a cocktail and feeling at one with that big Texas sky.

Tito Beveridge, Founder

I figured if I could make a vodka so smooth that you could drink it straight, I’d really have something

Once he had “a vodka that was so smooth you could drink it straight,” Tito tried to get some financing, but hit a wall. Investors turned him down again and again, convinced that he would never get his permits, as there had never been a legal distillery in Texas, and they said he would never get a distributor. So, he ended up just taking the money he had saved up while working overseas, and racked up 19 credit cards to the tune of about $88,000. Tito built a one-man distillery, fought to re-write the laws in Texas, setting the precedent for the microdistillery movement, built a production still, and just kinda got himself into business.

Early on, Tito worked day and night in the one-room shack, cooking vodka and catching sleep sporadically. He spent his days hand-bottling vodka, screwing caps on bottles, and putting Elmer's glue on paper labels. He would canvass Austin, meeting with local liquor stores and bars, and taking his vodka around to parties, introducing his brand and building up a cadre of loyal followers. Tito would head home exhausted and exhilarated; then, he would wake up, and do it all over again. “I’d go out and make it and sell it and come back and make some more and you know, I was sleeping next to the still and you know just kind of boot-strapped it up.”

It took the company more than eight years to really find its legs. Today, Tito’s Handmade Vodka is one of the most successful distilleries out there and remains one of the cleanest-tasting spirits available. Tito unknowingly started a revolution, and has stayed true to those upstart roots even today.
