I’m traveling to Vancouver in late December 2021. I’d like to purcahe the Vancouver Attraction Passport now, but I can’t find the right area to do so. Please help.

Hello Beverly! Unfortunately at the moment due to COVID these types of passes have been temporarily put on hold while the industry recovers… I imagine a lot of their profitability has to do with large volumes of tourists, which we unfortunately haven’t had 🙁

I really hope we can have some news for you soon.

Hi, I am trying to purchase the Vancouver Attraction Passport and I can’t seem to find it.

Please help.

Unfortunately this pass has been discontinued during COVID. Once the pass has been reinstated we’ll be updating the website accordingly… let’s hope it’s back soon because that means tourism is back to normal!

Hello, so this passport is only to get discount for attractions correct? Does it cover any of the attractions at all?

Hi Veronica,

Yes indeed, it’s just a discount pass 🙂 Unfortunately it has yet to be reinstated post-COVID but we hope this is the case soon.

Hi, would like to do a quick check, the attraction passport is still not avail if we are travelling Vancouver in April 2022? If it isn’t, are there alternatives. Thanks.

Yes, unfortunately the pass is still not live yet 🙁 I have heard rumours they’re revamping it for a full relaunch but nothing going as of yet… I assume post-COVID they’re going to have to make some huge adjustments depending on who survived, who changed their prices/options etc. This is the same with all the passes unfortunately.

Such a weird time… but I hope to have some info soon.

HI, I’M NATALIA GOMEZ, I will travel with my Husband to vancouver in MAY 2022 and we would like to buy the discount pass or which package with some attractions ticket do you recommend to get to know Vancouver 1 week?

Hi Natalia,

Unfortunately the Vancouver Attraction Pass is still ‘in limbo’ due to COVID. I have a suspicion that they are changing a few things and will be relaunching it soon, but as of now there is no discount pass available online.

At this point I would simply plan my Vancouver Itinerary and book the attractions individually. That said, in the next couple months the pass might be relaunched so do keep an eye out.. I will be updating this page as soon as I know something.

Hi, We are travelling to Vancouver and Canada Rockies this May. Can I check if we are able to purchase Canada Sim Card at Vancouver International Airport? Thank you.

Hello Mei! Thank you for writing 🙂

Yes, you can purchase Canada SIM cards at the 7-11 in the airport – it’s located on Level 1 in the Domestic Terminal Building.

Please let me know if you have any more questions… always here to help!

Hello, hope you’re well.

Any news on the reinstatement of the passport?

Will it be available this summer?

Hi Sebastian,

No word yet 🙁 I’ve been anticipating word in spring for the summer but still nothing… once we hear something it’ll be posted here ASAP.

Dear Sirs: My wife and I are considering purchasing the “Vancouver Attraction Passport” for a visit to Vancouver in September, 2023. Is the price of 36.06 CAD a price per person or a price for a couple? You state that there are fifty-five (55) attractions with a discount available. I need a list of the 55 attractions, ideally with the 2023 retail price shown, then the discount amount or percentage shown.

Gary W. Jamison

Unfortunately as mentioned above this pass has been discontinued pre-COVID and we’re still waiting for it to come back. As such, I can’t make any comment about price or otherwise… I am hoping it comes back and I can have some info for you soon!

What is the Turkey Museum Pass?

Purchasing the Museum Pass in Turkey will get you access to over 300 museums and archeological sites run by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism all over the country within a 15-day period. Your 15 days start the first time you use your pass for entry into the museum.

It is a great way to save money on museum entry fees if you plan on visiting multiple museums during your trip.  Also, not every museum is run by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, so be sure to check the website or Museums of Turkey app for the most current lists. The pass does not include national parks in Turkey, such as Noah’s Ark National Park.

There are several regional cards available if you don’t want to buy the pass for all of Turkey.

See more of our favorite apps for travel in Turkey .

Where to Buy the Turkey Museum Pass

The best option is to purchase the Museum Pass for a specific region or all of Turkey for your trip at the first museum that you visit. Wait until you arrive and purchase it at the first site you go to. You can purchase a pass for all of Turkey or you can buy a regional pass for the area you are in. You’ll be given a physical card that you’ll scan at each site you enter.

Due to inflation the cost of the Turkey Museum pass has changed numerous times within one travel season. I suggest checking in at the Museum Pass website for the latest pricing before your trip. Also, a regional pass is a good option specifically for you if you are traveling to Cappadocia, the Mediterranean or Aegean regions.

The Acropolis and the Parthenon, the Acropolis museum with archeological findings and the Temple of Temple of the Olympic Zeus are only three examples. When walking through the centre you will stumble upon one archeological site after another.

Present-day Athens is equally interesting, imposing squares, wide avenues and shady parks. Syntagma is the most famous square. The imposing white palace is the home of the Greek Parliament. In front of it the evzones stand guard in their striking uniforms, a kilt made of 400 pleats, a tassled cap and leather shoes with a pompom that look like carpet slipper but weigh 1,5 kilos each. The Plaka is a historic district at the foot of the Acropolis brimming with tavernas serving souvlaki and gyros and souvenir shops. The Monastiraki distict is popular with tourists, and filled with shops selling antiques, souvenirs, arts and crafts, movie posters, vinyl records, vintage clothing, second-hand books and pretty much anything you can think of.

Rome city passes: Which one should you pick for the best value?

Rome, Italy

Rome is brimming with world-famous monuments, museums, and churches that charm thousands of visitors every day. With all the must-sees around the city, exploring the Italian capital is always a delight—but it doesn’t have to be expensive if you know where to look for the best deals.

Both the local government and tour operators offer convenient city passes that will let you enjoy Rome to the fullest and save you time and money. Most include sightseeing tours, access to public transportation, as well as fast-track entry and discounts on tickets to attractions like the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums .

This guide will help you understand the wide range of Rome city passes available and pick the one that works best for you.

Best for: Visitors relying on public transportation to get around

The Roma Pass has been developed by the local government and is the only city pass that gives free access to Rome’s entire network of trains, trams, and buses. You’ll get to choose between a 48-hour pass for $32.00 or a 72-hour one for $52.00.

Woman waiting for a tram in Rome, Italy

Each will let you pick either one (48-hour) or two (72-hour) attractions to visit for free. A few highlights are the Borghese Gallery and the archaeological site comprising the Colosseum, the Roman Forum , and Palatine Hill . In some cases, you may be advised or required to book your tickets in advance, either for free or by paying a $2.00 fee.

Discounts and a special booking arrangement for dozens of attractions throughout the city are available through the Roma Pass, too. It’ll also grant you access to over 10 P.Stop restrooms spread across the capital, which is extra convenient since public restrooms in Italy typically charge a fee.

Though extremely time-saving, the Roma Pass won’t save you a lot of money, unless you use public transportation many times a day and cram in as many of the main sights as possible. And bear in mind that the most popular attractions are likely to be sold out if you’re visiting during peak season.

Where to buy your pass: You can purchase your pass online up to 24 hours before arrival, but you’ll need to collect it at one of six strategic locations, including Fiumicino Airport and Termini railway station .

Best for: Exploring the Vatican

The Omnia Card is offered by the Diocese of Rome and as such focuses on attractions located within the Vatican or otherwise managed by the Holy See. It’ll cover your tickets to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel , the Mamertine Prison , and the Basilica of Saint John Lateran , as well as let you ride a dedicated hop-on/hop-off bus for free.

Vatican City

There are two options for this pass: a 24-hour ($69.00) pass and a 72-hour ($129.00) pass. While the first one will let you select one out of five Roman catacombs to visit, the 72-hour pass includes a Roma Pass and comes with a multilingual audio guide of St. Peter’s Basilica .

One of Omnia Card’s major advantages is its cancelation policy: should your plans change, you’ll be able to cancel your purchase up to a day before traveling to Rome.

Where to buy your pass: Tickets to single attractions can be bought online or via the Omnia app. The Omnia Card itself has to be collected at one of four offices across Rome; one of them is right outside the Vatican.

Rome Turbopass

Best for: Those staying for more than three days

The Rome Turbopass is available for one to seven days and is priced between $71.90 and $126.90. For an additional $12, you’ll get a round-trip transfer to Fiumicino Airport. You can purchase a public transport add-on with your pass as well.

Castel Sant'Angelo aka Mausoleo di Adriano aka Engelsburg at Lungotevere Castello

With the Turbopass, you’ll get free entry to the Mausoleum of Hadrian , the Baths of Caracalla , and a few other attractions, plus skip-the-line tickets to the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, and the National Roman Museum .

An open-top bus, complete with a city audio guide in multiple languages, serves all pass holders.

Overall, the Rome Turbopass gives you more bang for your buck. But if you’re in Rome for only a couple of days, more affordable alternatives like the Roma Pass will suit you better. Plus, tickets to the Colosseum should be booked in advance as they sell out pretty fast.

Where to buy your pass: The Turbopass can be bought online between six months and 24 hours in advance and will be sent to your email alongside all the tickets you’ll need. But if you choose the public transport add-on, you’ll have to head to Termini station to pick it up.

Go City Explorer Pass

Best for: Discovering Roman sites and cuisine

Go City’s Rome pass is hard to beat in terms of convenience because you'll find all your tickets within one single app. You’ll get to pick between two and seven attractions for $59.00 to $159.00.

Classics like the Colosseum (complete with an audio tour), the Vatican Museums, and a one-day tour on a hop-on/hop-off bus are available, and so are more exclusive activities like a rooftop pizza dinner and a wine tasting with a certified sommelier. You can opt for a guided tour of St. Peter's Basilica, too, which isn’t always offered by other passes.

Go City sells similar passes for 29 other cities around the world and is known for its flexible and user-friendly passes. While the Rome pass specifically boasts almost 30 experiences to choose from, you’ll only get to ride their dedicated open-top bus if you select that as one of your activities. This can be an advantage for visitors who want to get around the city by alternative means, but those looking for a more comprehensive pass should try other options.

Where to buy your pass: Download the app and book all your tickets online.

Rome Tourist Card

Best for: A flexible itinerary

The Rome Tourist Card is another totally digital Rome city pass. For $94.00, you’ll be given priority access and a video guide of the Colosseum and all the sights within the Roman Forum.

You’ll also get last-minute tickets to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, a guided tour of St. Peter's Basilica, and two audio guides—one on over 130 points of interest across Rome and another specifically about the Pantheon .

This pass is perfect for visitors who don’t want to settle on a strict itinerary and would rather avoid collecting actual vouchers. On the other hand, it’s less affordable than similar passes and doesn’t cover any transportation needs, whether public or private.

Where to buy your pass: Make your purchase online. You’ll be able to schedule your tickets with no time restrictions. Besides what’s included in the package, you’ll get 10% off the tickets to other attractions in the city.

Barcelona Card: 26 Free Attractions + Unlimited Transit & Discounts

barcelona card discount travel pass

The Barcelona Card is a tourist pass for those looking to save money on holiday.

It’s a a smart card with an NFC chip that grants free entry to 26 museums, discounts on 30+ attractions, and unlimited transport (including airport) .

It plays a bit like a wrist band at an all-inclusive resort – only your hotel is the city of Barcelona.

But is the Barcelona Card worth it? Let’s take a deeper look.

Where to Buy the Barcelona Card

Already in the know? You can buy this Barcelona tourist discount card via the official Barcelona Tourism Office.

Clicking the button below gets you   a special 10% online discount that is not found on location in Barcelona.

The Barcelona Card: Free Entry + Discounts

I’ll be honest – if you’re going to spend most of your time lounging on Barcelona’s best beaches and devouring tapas by the tub load, the Barcelona Card may not be for you.

That said, if you’re visiting Barcelona for the culture then it’s something to really consider.

Let’s look at what’s in the pass, then we’ll get into prices and potential value.

What’s Included in the Barcelona Card?

  • Unlimited Transport : bus, the Barcelona metro , tram, overland rail, and the Montjuic funicular.
  • Free Airport Transfer : (metro, train, or bus)  from Barcelona airport to city centre .
  • Free Skip the Line Admission to 25 Museums : including the Picasso Museum , Moco Museum, the Antoni Tàpies Foundation, the Joan Mirò Foundation, MACBA, MNAC, CCCB, the Chocolate Museum, and more.
  • Barcelona Attraction Discounts Up to 40% :  La Pedrera ,  Casa Batllo , Casa Vicens , Mirador Torre Glories, Wax Museum, Erotica Museum, the Aquarium, Zoo,  Poble Espanyol , Palau de la Musica , and more.

  • Visit Guide : Guide in English to help you understand everything you see.

Still not convinced? Read the  full list of Barcelona Card discounts .

How Much is the Barcelona Card? 2024 Prices

As noted before, ticket window prices are 10% higher so if you’re gonna do it, make sure you buy your Barcelona Cards online.

When booking with the button above you’ll also have free cancellation passes (up to 24 hours before).

The Barcelona Card Express: 48 Hours

The Barcelona Card Express is a 48 hour free public transport pass for those visiting Barcelona with less time.

The only difference between this and other Barcelona Card options is there are no free admission to museums included – only discounts for the main Barcelona attractions (there’s a discount list here ).

48 hours : €27.00   €23.30 (online)

Clicking the button below gets you a 10% discount booking online with Barcelona Tourism Office.

Is the Barcelona Card Worth It?

Let’s take a look at transport first – remembering that single metro and bus tickets cost €2.55 .

A conservative average of four trips a day over a 3 day stay costs €10.20 a day x 3 = €30.60.

Factor in return airport transfer for two more trips (remember, there’s free airport transfer) and we’re up to €38.70 for transport without the card .

Now let’s throw in the Picasso Museum .

Your free admission at this must-see museum costs €17.00 – bringing us to €55.70 .

painting of three birds at the picasso museum in barcelona spain

How Much Money Does the Barcelona Card Save Me?

As you can see, on a 72 hour Barcelona Card worth €49.50 we’re €6.20 in ‘profit’ visiting only the Picasso Museum – not even using the 24 other Barcelona museum options and 30+ popular attractions discounts.

The Moco Museum , another must-see that’s included, is a €19.00 value and brings us to €25.20 in savings very quickly.

Throw in a €7.00 savings at can’t-miss Casa Batlló , La Pedrera, a walking tour, the Fundació Joan Miró, and Tibidabo Amusement Park and you can start to save money for real.

For legit sightseers this all-inclusive Barcelona tourist pass makes perfect sense.

The average tourist can expect to save between €30.00 and €40.00 – that’s a “free” paella dinner with wine tacked onto your trip just for a couple mouse clicks from home.

  • Alex Charters, Senior Product Manager, Xbox Experiences

April 2024 Update Hero Image

Team Xbox continues to bring new ways to make Xbox better, with players at the center, as we refine the experience and deliver brand-new features based on your feedback. This month’s update sees game hubs available for all PC players, new navigation options are starting to roll out in the Xbox app on PC, and the Xbox April Update is rolling out soon to all consoles.

PC Gaming | Xbox app on PC experience updates

Game hubs are now available for all PC players

Back in February , we announced that our team had started rolling out game hubs for our PC players to connect even more with their favorite games.

Today, we’re excited to share that all PC players can now enjoy game hubs inside the Xbox app on PC. Navigate to any game in your library or in the sidebar to track your progress, discover the latest content and add-ons, connect and compete with your friends, and get the latest news from developers.

April 2024 Update Hero Image

With this official rollout of game hubs to all players on the Xbox app, we’re also bringing back a fan-favorite feature: game captures. Any game clip or screenshots you’ve captured through Game Bar for a specific game will now be displayed in its respective game hub and locally stored on your PC. You can browse your captures in the app, copy them to the clipboard for easy sharing, or quickly jump to the file location. You can learn more about game captures here .

April 2024 Update PC Game Hubs

We’re just getting started with game hubs and can’t wait to share new improvements with future updates.

New sub-navigation menu options for the Xbox app on PC are starting to roll out

We have started previewing a new sub-navigation experience under the “What’s Happening” section of the Game Pass tab in the Xbox app on PC with a subset of players and with all Xbox Insiders. To learn more about the changes you may see when you access the Xbox app on PC, click here .

Xbox console experience updates

The Xbox April console update is starting to roll out

Starting today, the Xbox April update will be rolling out to all consoles.

If you’re using Discord Voice on your console, you’ll now be able to hear soundboard audio from others in the channel or call. If you don’t want to hear these sounds, a mute button for soundboard audio can be found in the Discord Voice options: Open the guide and go to Options > Mute soundboard.

Do you save your favorite gaming moments as game captures? If you’re using OneDrive to back up your game captures and clips, now, when you upload a game capture, you’ll get a notification on your console letting you know if you’re running low on space.

Also, we’ve added a new control on your consoles so you can block whether users on your device can install or uninstall games and apps.  You can enable access restrictions with a “guest pin” and disable these new controls when a game or app install or uninstall happens. Your guest will be prompted for the “guest pin” to complete the activity. To view and adjust the new options, navigate to Settings > System > Access restrictions.

Following the trade of Brian Burns, the Carolina Panthers had no choice but to heavily pursue experienced pass rushers in free agency. There weren’t many high-level names available, but the Panthers seem to have come out okay by inking Jadeveon Clowney and DJ Wonnum.

Neither Clowney or Wonnum have the ceiling of Burns, but the two combined can help make up for the void Burns leaves behind and then some.

Ryan Fowler of Bleacher Report does not share that same opinion, naming Clowney as one of the 14 worst free agent signings of the offseason .

“There's a ton of boom or bust coiled up in the frame of Jadeveon Clowney. At times, he can completely overwhelm opposing linemen. Other times, he disappears for weeks on end.

“While you could say Clowney is playing the best football of his career with 11 sacks in two of his last three campaigns, he'll take on a new role in Carolina where he's expected to lead a youth-infused group of pass-rushers behind him, something he's never done in his prior five stops. Although his deal won't break the bank, Clowney, 31, could end performing like a long-in-the-tooth pass-rusher.”

Personally, I don’t see how Clowney could be even mentioned in this discussion. Even if the production isn’t there, it’s not like Panthers forked up a ton of money or committed to a long-term deal that they will be stuck with. He was one of the best options on the market and can at least give Carolina a chance to get to the quarterback.

Guide to UK Heritage Passes (incl National Trust Touring Pass vs English Heritage Overseas Visitor Pass)

By: Author Tracy Collins

Posted on Last updated: March 1, 2023

There are few countries in the world that are richer in history than the UK. If any. This compact land is home to so many ancient castles and fine country houses. If you intend to visit, then it’s likely that seeing some of these old buildings will be on your itinerary.

The thing is, though, that in the UK different organisations represent these historic sites. The most well known are the National Trust, English Heritage and Historic Houses (for a full guide to UK Heritage Passes including Historic Scotland, Historic Royal Palaces and more see the table further down the post).

If you’re looking to purchase a UK Heritage Pass and considering the National Trust vs the English Heritage overseas visitor pass, which one do you go for? Is the National Trust Touring Pass the best, or not?

This guide to the various UK heritage passes – i.e. English Heritage, National Trust and Historic Houses – outlines what each of these organisations has to offer the visitor from overseas. If you want to find out what passes there are, some famous places which belong to them and the advantages and disadvantages of each, then read on.

By the end of this guide, you’ll be equipped with all the information you need about overseas visitor passes for historic sites in the UK. So you can make an informed choice about which one might work best for you! Let’s get started.

Where to buy

Where to visit, about historic houses, where can you go with a national trust pass, can i take a guest with my national trust pass, how many people can use a national trust pass, is the english heritage pass worth it, can i take a guest with english heritage, is the national trust better than english heritage, benefits of annual passes, uk heritage passes – which pass is best for you, national trust touring pass.

Avebury 1

At-a-glance:

  • 7 or 14 day pass
  • 1 or 2 person or family passes
  • Free entry to over 300 houses and gardens

The National Trust (NT) overseas visitor pass is known as the National Trust Touring Pass. So what do you get for your money?

You can buy the National Trust Touring Pass to save on buying National Trust tickets at each attraction. It’s available to visitors from overseas, and you can buy one for a week or a fortnight’s duration.

Passes can cover one person, two people or a family. A family pass admits two adults, plus any kids aged under 18. In total there are 6 different passes available, as they last for a week or two weeks.

When you collect the pass, it’s marked with the start date. You can then visit as many National Trust properties as you want to for a week or two weeks, depending on the duration you paid for.

Only those who are not UK residents are eligible to buy the National Trust Touring Pass.

You cannot buy this pass from National Trust properties in the UK, so you must order yours online before you travel from the NT online shop .

You can collect your pass from a National Trust property, however. A list of these is supplied by the organisation, and there’s at least one in most English, Welsh or Northern Irish counties. For some – such as Cornwall – there can be as many as five.

Passes can also be collected from the City of London Tourist Information Centre by St Paul’s Cathedral in the UK capital.

UK heritage passes like the National Trust Touring pass give entry to places such as St Michael's mount.

You can visit more than 300 properties in England, Wales and Northern Ireland with the pass. Places in Scotland are not included , however, as they have their own National Trust for Scotland .

Examples of places to visit with the pass include Sissinghurst Castle in Kent, St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall, Avebury in Wiltshire, the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Experience in Northern Ireland and Tredegar House in Newport, Wales. So you can see that there’s a wide variety to choose from.

Parking fees at National Trust properties aren’t covered by the National Trust Touring pass. Budget extra as you will have to pay separately for parking.

A list of properties is also excluded, which you can access here .

  • 7 day pass for 1: £37
  • 7 day pass for 2: £65
  • 7 day family pass: £71
  • 14 day pass for 1: £43
  • 14 day pass for 2: £77
  • 14 day family pass: £91

Note that these prices are correct at the time of writing (Feb 2023), but are of course subject to change at any time.

  • Over 300 properties to choose from
  • Can be much cheaper than separate tickets
  • 2 week, 2 person and family passes offer even better value
  • No passes available for longer than 2 weeks
  • Certain properties and parking are excluded
  • Not available for collection at all properties

English Heritage Overseas Visitors Pass

Tintagel in the South West of England

  • 9 or 16 day pass
  • Free entry to over 100 sites (plus free or discounted entry to English Heritage events)

The English Heritage equivalent of the National Trust Touring Pass is the English Heritage Overseas Visitor Pass . This can also be used for entry to more than 100 sites. English Heritage events may also be included, and where this isn’t the case pass holders may benefit from discounted tickets instead.

Though the pass covers fewer sites, some of the best historic attractions in the UK are covered by the English Heritage Overseas Visitor Pass . Its validity begins when it is collected, when a member of staff will input start and end dates for the pass.

With this pass you can choose one that lasts for 9 days or 16 days. Which is a little longer than the NT passes. The same applies regarding the availability of passes for one or two people, or a family. In this case, a family pass covers two adults plus up to four children who are under 18 and live at the same address.

Like the NT pass, English Heritage Overseas Visitor Passes are only available to non-UK residents.

You can buy the English Heritage visitor pass online from Get Your Guide. English Heritage advises customers to print a copy of the booking confirmation at this point.

The pass can then be collected from any English Heritage site in the UK. You will need to show your booking confirmation, the credit card used for payment and proof of overseas residency.

Stonehenge 3

The biggest name of all is probably Stonehenge, which is covered by the English Heritage pass. Other famous names include the writer Charles Darwin’s home and Tintagel Castle in Cornwall.

Over 100 English Heritage sites are covered by this pass. Again, no properties in Scotland are covered. Nor are any places in Wales or Northern Ireland – the clue is in the name!

  • 9 day pass for 1: £45
  • 9 day pass for 2: £79
  • 9 day family pass: £90
  • 16 day pass for 1: £53
  • 16 day pass for 2: £90
  • 16 day family pass: £100
  • Longer durations than the NT passes
  • 2 person and family passes are better value
  • Can be cheaper than buying separate tickets
  • Available for collection at any English Heritage property
  • No properties in Wales or Northern Ireland are covered
  • Fewer (100+) properties to choose from

bamburgh castle 2

Historic Houses do not offer touring or overseas visitor passes. They’re also a little different from the National Trust (NT) or English Heritage. Historic Houses is an organisation that the owners of historic properties can choose to be members of.

These properties then allow free entry for members. So if you pay to become a member, you can get in without paying any more money.

Each property that’s a member of historic houses can set its own terms that visitors need to abide by. While there is no pass as such, membership fees are used to pay towards the upkeep of important heritage attractions.

With the Historic Houses Pass you gain free entry to 300 historic houses, parks and gardens across the UK. This includes Hever Castle, Blenheim Palace Park, Bamburgh and Alnwick Castles in Northumberland and Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

As there are no passes available, you can join Historic Houses at a yearly rate only. This is currently £65 for one person, or £103 for two people. No family memberships are available.

Sadly, Historic Houses aren’t really set up for overseas visitors – nor for families – though you can purchase an annual membership.

National Trust Touring Pass FAQs

A National Trust Touring Pass gains you entry to over 300 places of interest in England, Wales and Northern Ireland . The list includes castles, stately homes, gardens and other historic attractions.

You cannot take a guest for free with a National Trust Touring Pass. They can either pay for entry, or you could buy a pass for two people or family rather than one person in the first place.

National Trust Touring Passes are available for one or two people, or a family. Any children aged under 18 are included on a family pass, as well as two adults.

English Heritage Overseas Visitor Pass FAQs

The English Heritage Overseas Visitor Pass is well worth it if you’ll get your money’s worth while visiting the UK.

The trick here is to plan your itinerary carefully, and work out what you’d pay for admission over 9 or 16 days. That way you can see whether the pass offers better value for money.

You cannot take a guest for free with a one person English Heritage Overseas Visitor Pass. If you want to visit together, you can buy a two person or family pass. Or they can simply pay for entry in the usual way.

The National Trust has more properties to visit in England, Wales and Northern Ireland than English Heritage. The latter only has places in England. Pass holders can enter over 300 attractions with the NT, or more than 100 with English Heritage. It all comes down to where you would go when using the pass.

Overview of all UK Heritage passes available 2023

# Plus Hampton Court, Hillsborough Castle & Gardens, Banqueting House, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace

* Historic Scotland Explorer Pass – Valid for 7 consecutive days and includes free entry to all Historic Scotland sites that are open.

** Historic Royal Palaces – Free entry to 6 historic Royal palaces and 10% discount on entry to Kew Gardens

There can be some benefits to purchasing an annual pass especially if you are planning to spend some time in the UK and have an interest in visiting historic houses, castles, gardens etc

Here are some of the benefits we discovered when we were researching this article:

  • Half price entry to over 500 heritage attractions in England ( English Heritage ) and Wales ( Cadw ) in your first year.
  • Free entry to over 500 heritage attractions in England ( English Heritage ) and Wales ( Cadw ) for all renewal and life members
  • Free entry to heritage attractions on the Isle of Man ( Manx National Heritage ).

Historic Scotland Passes 1

  • Membership of the National Trust Scotland also offers you access to places cared for by National Trust organisations around the world with the International National Trusts Organisation (INTO).
  • This includes National Trust properties in England, Wales and Northern Ireland .
  • 50% off entry to English Heritage and Historic Scotland sites
  • FREE entry to English Heritage and Historic Scotland on renewal
  • The National Trust of Australia have reciprocal visiting arrangements with heritage organisations in other countries (including National Trust England and Scotland)
  • Members of National Trust Australia are usually admitted free* on the production of a current membership card.
  • * Note that free entry is not valid at some sites and excludes special exhibitions and guided tours. Contact the property before attending to confirm that free entry for National Trust of Australia members is applicable.

Whether to buy the National Trust Touring Pass or the English Heritage Overseas Visitors Pass is really down to one question. Which will save you money? Or should you even buy both? Or would an annual pass such as National Heritage or Historic Scotland work out for you?

To work this out, plan your itinerary for the UK. Where would you visit, and in what timescale? Next, add up the separate admission fees and compare this to the pass that could cover the attraction, your group size and duration. If either pass (or an annual pass) will save you money, then surely it has to be well worth buying!

You might even get to see more places than you would have without it, too.

House GOP manage to reauthorize surveillance bill, but divisions remain

Lawmakers against the bill have forced another vote before the senate can pass it to avoid deadline next friday.

House Republicans managed to find a path to restructure a surveillance mechanism used by government agencies, momentarily overcoming divisions within the fractious conference that for months have foiled leadership plans to address the issue.

In a bipartisan vote, the House reauthorized a part of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) on Friday, 273-147. But stark opposition from another bipartisan group of lawmakers moved far-right members to compel a motion to reconsider the legislation, forcing the House to vote next week on defending the measure and stalling its passage to the Senate, which must act before a lapse occurs next Friday.

House GOP leadership’s goal to consider the bill by the end of this week almost did not happen after 19 far-right Republicans blocked debate on the measure Wednesday by voting against advancing beyond a procedural hurdle. The group took advantage of Republicans’ narrow two-vote majority to press demands for changes to the bill.

The divisions center on how to amend Section 702 of the FISA law. The post-9/11 provision gave U.S. spy agencies the ability to collect without a warrant the communications of noncitizens abroad who are suspected of threatening U.S. national security or whose emails and text messages might provide foreign intelligence. At issue is whether spy agencies can analyze communications by Americans who may have interacted with foreign targets, which privacy advocates on the far right and left say is unconstitutional.

The group that blocked debate on the bill Wednesday wanted Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to include language to bar U.S. government agencies from buying Americans’ personal information from private data brokers and to require U.S. agencies to obtain a warrant before viewing communications by Americans swept up in overseas intelligence gathering.

Although Johnson included neither objective in the bill put up for floor debate Friday, he found a solution Thursday that appeased the hard-liners, agreeing to shorten the reauthorization window from five to two years. The speaker argued that doing so would allow far-right members a chance to incorporate their legislative changes under a Trump administration, if the former president is elected later this year.

Donald Trump also played a role in rallying support for the measure, saying at a news conference with Johnson on Friday that he is “not a big fan of FISA” but that changes “would come due in the early part of my administration on the basis that we live up to the polls.”

Johnson also promised a vote on a separate bill next week that would ban U.S. agencies from purchasing information on Americans from data companies.

The changes were enough to persuade hard-liners to drop their blockade Friday, allowing floor debate to proceed. But it did not prevent a suspenseful moment on the House floor when an amendment almost led to the adoption of language that would have forced the government to require a warrant if the FBI wants to analyze Americans’ communications swept up under Section 702.

Members of the far-right House Freedom Caucus were cheering and clapping for members of the far-left “Squad” and Congressional Progressive Caucus as they voted for the amendment.

The amendment, offered by a political odd couple, Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) and Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), was not adopted as it ended in a tie vote. The amendment would have dramatically changed the FISA bill, probably rendering it dead on arrival in the Senate. According to three Democrats familiar with the development, the White House whipped House Democrats to vote against it.

“I think we got closer than we’ve ever gotten before to making sure that the intelligence community does not continue to do warrantless surveillance on Americans,” Jayapal said. “At the end of the day, the White House and intelligence community have to take seriously the concern that so many of us across the aisle have.”

Far-right lawmakers were more aggressive in their blame and issued a warning to Republicans who supported the bill.

“Every one of these members who voted against a warrant requirement, they are the deciding vote. They own it, and some of them may see me showing up in their districts very soon to campaign against them,” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said.

Privacy and national security hawks have warred within the conference for months over how to address changes to Section 702, leading Johnson to twice pull consideration of several measures because of lagging support. Those arguing on the side of privacy say government agencies should require a warrant, while national-security-minded Republicans — and Democrats — say that adding warrants would severely affect agencies’ ability to thwart terrorist activity.

The Biden administration has for months stressed the need to reauthorize Section 702, one of the most powerful foreign surveillance authorities in its arsenal. Section 702 provides more than 60 percent of the intelligence summarized in the president’s daily brief, administration officials have said.

Section 702 “contributed directly to us being able to take [al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-] Zawahiri off the battlefield,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Friday. It helped identify the perpetrator of the ransomware attack against Colonial Pipeline, he said. “It helped us uncover Russian atrocities in Ukraine, including the forced relocation to Russia of Ukrainian children and attacks on Ukrainian refugees. And it helped us disrupt an assassination plot on U.S. soil against a dissident by a hostile foreign power.”

Kirby added: “It’s vital to our ability to defend ourselves, to defend the American people.”

Members of the House Intelligence Committee dominated floor debate early Friday to voice bipartisan support for the bill and encourage colleagues to vote against the amendment.

“There already is a warrant requirement for the protection of Americans and people who are here in the United States, ” Turner said. “This amendment … applies to the data that we collect in spying on Hamas, Hezbollah, the Chinese Communist Party. To give them a warrant, to give them constitutional protection, means they are open for business.”

That did not stop Trump’s supporters in the House from falsely claiming that without changes, the “weaponized” Justice Department under President Biden will continue to target Trump and other conservatives.

“The question today is, ‘Do you trust the government?’” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said. “The same intelligence community that spied on President Trump’s campaign has been deeply invested in reauthorizing FISA. … These are also the same people in the intelligence community who abused FISA and spied on hundreds of thousands of Americans, and I would argue, they’ll continue to do it.”

In response, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Tex.), a former Navy SEAL, tried to separate myths from facts.

“Myth: FISA is used to spy on Americans. The myth goes like this — if you queried an American’s name, you can see their inbox, but it’s not true. It’s used to spy on foreign intelligence targets, foreign terrorists, and you need a warrant to do so,” he said. “The reforms in here would stop in their tracks what happened to President Trump.”

Privacy advocates decried the bill’s passage without a warrant requirement. Elizabeth Goitein, senior director of the Brennan Center for Justice’s Liberty and National Security Program, characterized lawmakers who supported Friday’s vote as “a craven betrayal of the Americans who placed their faith in these members to protect their rights.”

Former national security officials, however, hailed the vote.

“The fact that there were such strong bipartisan votes for the surveillance amendments supported by the intelligence community suggested that many Congress members felt that the political optics of voting for the warrant requirement were irresistible,” said Glenn S. Gerstell, a former National Security Agency general counsel. “Ultimately, however, members recognized that the bill already addressed most of their concerns over privacy and would go a long way to preventing a recurrence of FBI compliance failures.”

Boarding pass warning for holidaymakers heading to popular tourist spot

Cropped shot of a female traveller checking her boarding pass & passport at the boarding gate in the airport

Summer holiday season is fast approaching, but if you’ve got a trip booked soon it’s important to double-check the boarding pass rules as soon as possible.

This is because not every airline or airport will have the same procedures in place, and you could face unwanted fees or delays to your trip if you don’t adhere to the guidelines.

For instance, Ryanair and easyJet recently shared an important warning for those travelling to and from Morocco .

According to Ryanair’s website, all travellers departing from a Moroccan airport must print out a physical copy of their boarding pass, as digital ones won’t be accepted.

Djemaa el Fna square, Marrakech, Morocco

The airline explained: ‘If you depart from a Moroccan airport, a digital boarding pass will not be accepted. You must carry a physical printout of your boarding pass, and you’ll need to present this boarding pass at the Moroccan airport check-in facility.’

According to Ryanair, digital boarding passes are also not accepted in Turkey, so visitors there will also need to print a copy out ahead of their journey home. Despite these rules, customers flying from Turkey are able to check in online — you just can’t use the online boarding pass.

Similarly, easyJet’s website states: ‘Due to local regulations in place at Marrakech, mobile boarding passes are not available. You will need to print your boarding pass and go to Bag Drop for a document check, even if you don’t have bags to drop off.’

The airline recommends passengers get to the bag drop desk three hours before their flight time. And for those running late, the luggage drop service closes an hour before departure.

This rule for boarding passes in Morocco seems to be the same regardless of which carrier you travel with.

Some have claimed on Tripadvisor that they’d been fined €50 for not having a printed copy of their boarding pass at Moroccan airports. However, these fines are not mentioned by Ryanair or easyJet.

Easyjet confirmed they do not charge or fine customers for printing a boarding pass at the airport. If you do not have one, they will print one for free.

Over the shoulder view of young woman checking in with electronic flight ticker on smart phone

However, the same cannot be said for Ryanair, who are known to charge a boarding card reissue fee for each passenger if they have to print a boarding pass out for you.

This fee can be up to £20 per person, so if you don’t have a printer and wish to avoid it, it’s worth seeing if you can use one at work, at a local library, or ask a friend with a printer to help out.

And to be safe, no matter where you’re going, it’s best to ensure you always have both an electronic boarding pass and a physical copy with you.

What other airport fees should you be wary of?

Several airlines may also charge passengers to check them in at the airport, if they have not checked in online before the day of travel.

Ryanair , for instance, charges a fee for checking in at the airport which is £55 per person, or £30 for flights from Spain. The fee is waived for Flexi Plus and Plus passengers.

For a family holiday this could prove pretty pricey, so ensure you’ve checked in online or on an app before heading to the airport.

Wizz Air also charges for checking in at the airport, but it has two different fees for this. If you pre-book your airport check in online, passengers will be charged £11.50 each. Those who don’t pre-book will have to pay a heftier price of £36 per passenger.

Anyone travelling in the US with Frontier Airlines will also have to pay up to £20 for ‘Airport Agent Assistance’ on the day, which includes help with checking in and printing boarding passes, and US-based Spirit Airlines also charges to print boarding passes and to check in at the airport.

This comes after British holidaymakers were recently warned about upcoming airport delays and urged to make sure they allow for plenty of time at the airport.

ABTA, the UK association for tour operators and travel agents, warned holidaymakers to do their homework around hand luggage liquid rules or face ‘unnecessary delays ’ going through security,

British airports were set to scrap the 100ml limit by June 1 this year, but the Government has extended the deadline due to issues with implementing new scanners.

While already in effect at London City Airport and projected to be introduced at the likes of Bristol, Edinburgh and Leeds Bradford by the end of 2024, it could be 2025 before Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester roll out the update.

With that in mind, Luke Petherbridge, director of public affairs at ABTA, said: ‘our best advice is to prepare for your travels with the existing rules in mind.’

He added: ‘That way, you’ll be ready to comply whatever the scenario, avoiding any unnecessary delays through security and any difficulties when returning from your destination.

‘You can also check with your airport in advance, and we’d also recommend checking with your return airport too.’

Star Wars Outlaws' Jabba the Hutt Mission Locked Behind Season Pass

This deal is getting worse all the time..

Ryan Dinsdale Avatar

Ubisoft has already come under fire for single-player game Star Wars Outlaws having a Season Pass, but fans are expressing frustration once again upon noticing its highly anticipated Jabba the Hutt mission is locked behind it.

As reported by Spanish outlet Area Jugones , Ubisoft's website outlining the contents of the Season Pass —an optional extra to the $70 / £70 standard game so far only available through its $109.99 gold edition and even more expensive $129.99 ultimate edition — reveals it includes access to the Jabba's Gambit mission at launch.

"Play the exclusive Jabba's Gambit mission at launch," the Season Pass explainer reads. "Just as Kay is putting together a crew for the Canto Bight heist, she receives a job from Jabba the Hutt himself. Turns out that ND-5 owes Jabba a debt from years ago, and he has come to collect."

Star Wars Outlaws Screenshots

It's unclear how much of the Jabba the Hunt content will be locked behind the Season Pass, but Ubisoft has said in the past players can work for and even betray Jabba as the head of one of Star Wars Outlaws' criminal factions. It's now unclear whether this content comes at a premium or if it's a part of the standard game.

The mission description very much sounds like the introduction to working for Jabba, however, and at the very least, this confirms $70 / £70 won't give players access to all of Star Wars Outlaws. IGN has asked Ubisoft for clarification and comment.

"And that's why you don't defend these sh**ty early access editions with arguments like, 'it's not taking anything away from other players, it's just to play a few days earlier'," Zephy said on ResetEra .

"I get missions and stuff being added after release, free or paid depending on the scope and what have you, but I think it's a jerk move to lock stuff that's otherwise going to be there day one behind an extra paywall," added Temascos.

Star Wars Outlaws was revealed in 2023 as a scoundrel adventure set between Star Wars: Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi . It stars Key Vess, her droid partner ND-5, and her beastie companion Nix as they attempt to carve out their own success during Star Wars' golden era of criminal activity.

It arrives August 27, 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC , with the $70 / £70 Standard Edition joined by the aforementioned $110 / £105 Gold Edition, which comes with three days of early access alongside the Season Pass .

An even more expensive, digital-only Ultimate Edition comes with both of these perks alongside cosmetics (the Rogue Infiltrator Bundle and the Sebacc Shark bundle) alongside a digital art book.
