Tourist Survives Terrifying Bungee Jump Fall in Thailand After Cord Snaps
The tourist, originally from Hong Kong and visiting Thailand, jumped from a 10-story-high platform when his bungee cord snapped and sent him falling headfirst into water below
A tourist is speaking out after they survived a terrifying bungee jump fall that occurred while they were vacationing in Thailand.
Back in January, the tourist — who has been identified only as Mike to avoid online harassment , per CNN — traveled from Hong Kong to the Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park, where he partook in a bungee jump activity.
After being hooked into the equipment, Mike, 39, jumped from a 10-story-high platform, though his bungee cord snapped and sent him falling headfirst into the water below, as seen in video footage of the incident obtained by HK01.
"I landed on my left side, so the injuries were more serious there," Mike, who was left covered in bruises after the fall, told CNN. "It was as if someone just beat me up real bad."

According to CNN, Mike initially visited the park with the intention to use the firing range. But, after his friends dared him to do the bungee jump, he decided to take part in the activity.
"It was really high, so I closed my eyes. I planned to open my eyes again when I bounced back up," he told the outlet. "I realized the cord had snapped when I opened my eyes and I was surrounded by water."
After the fall, Mike was able to swim back to the platform, even though his feet were tied together by the lower half of the bungee cord. "If the person doesn't know how to swim, he or she will be in big trouble," he told CNN.
Metro reported that Mike was then rushed to the hospital following the incident.

Mike told CNN that the park refunded the cost of his bungee jump and paid for his X-ray and ultrasound scans in Thailand.
The founder of the park, Nithit Intim, told the outlet that the incident was the first where he had seen a cord snap. "After the cord was broken, our staff got him out of the water immediately, and asked him if he was okay," he told CNN. "He said he felt bruised. So we took him to the hospital."
Intim noted to the outlet that Mike had signed a liability waiver before he took part in the bungee jump. "Our staff explained that if any mishap happens or any accident takes place, our company will compensate medical bills. But the client can't demand for compensation on other kind of expenses," he told CNN.
The park owner added that the establishment has been willing to pay for any follow-up medical expenses that may come up following his return to Hong Kong, as long as receipts are provided.

‘I could have lost my life’: Tourist’s bungee cord snaps in midair in Thailand
The bungee cord of a tourist leaping from a 10-storey-high platform in Thailand snapped in midair, sending him plunging into a lake in Pattaya.
The man from Hong Kong, known only as Mike, momentarily blacked out in the water, but regained consciousness and swam out of the lake with the help of the attraction’s employees. He was then taken to hospital, Hong Kong news outlet hk01 reported.
The incident reportedly happened in February in the Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park located in the popular Thai tourist destination of Pattaya.
Mike told hk01: “The pain was so intense that I felt dizzy. As my arms were stretched out, my armpit area was the worst hit.”
A video of the incident shows Mike free falling for about six seconds from a height of about 30m and approaching the surface of the lake when the bungee cord suddenly breaks.
He enters the water head first from a height of about 5m with a big splash, to the horror of his friends who were watching and filming the jump.
Pictures of his injuries show bruises on his limbs, with the skin around his armpit area appearing peeled.
Mike told hk01 he also had a lung infection and was hospitalised for three days after returning to Hong Kong.
His medical bills, which came to about HK$50,000 (S$8,500), were covered by travel insurance. He said the park offered him only HK$2,300, comprising HK$1,800 in medical fees and a HK$500 refund of the bungee jump.
Mike said he has written an e-mail to the park and the Tourism Authority of Thailand to file a complaint.
He wrote: “My friends and I suffered losses due to the accident, including changes to our travel plans, my injuries and income loss... If the accident had been more severe, I could have lost my life.”
The bungee jump operator Natthaphon Yokcharoen on Wednesday apologised for the incident.
“Thappraya Safari has been open for seven years and nothing like this has ever happened. All of our equipment is licensed. I would like to apologise for this incident,” he said.
Last November, a woman visiting Colombia accidentally leapt to her death after forgetting she was not attached to a bungee cord.
Ms Yecenia Morales Gomez, 25, allegedly heard an instructor telling her partner to jump and believed the command was for her.

Video shows bungee jump cord snapping, man plunges into Thailand lake
A tourist from Hong Kong plunged into a lake after his bungee jump cord snapped during a leap from a 100-foot-high platform in Thailand, a harrowing new video shows.
The tourist, only identified as Mike, jumped from a 10-story-high podium at an amusement park in Pattaya, eastern Thailand, after being dared to by his friends, according to CNN .
However, his cord broke just before he reached the bottom, with the video showing him crashing into the waters below with his back arched and his arms out stretched.
Mike, who declined to give his full name to avoid social media attention, said he was in intense pain after the incident.
According to Reuters, which cited local Hong Kong media, he said: "At first, it hurt so much that I became dizzy. My arms were stretched out, so my armpit area was badly hit.
"I didn't know how many injuries I had as I swam up to the surface, all I knew was that my body hurt."
Mike told CNN that it felt like "someone just beat me up real bad."
Staff at the Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park jumped into the water and lifted him out, before arranging for him to be transported to a nearby hospital, Reuters reported.
Mike suffered multiple injuries, none of them serious, which included bruising near his left armpit, left thigh, and calf, and a swollen eye, per Reuters. Doctors prescribed painkillers before releasing him, the news agency said.
Mike said he spent 50,000 Hong Kong Dollars ($6,370 USD) on hospital bills and physical therapy, which was covered by his travel insurance.
He has since asked the park for compensation, but was allegedly only offered a refund for the jump and 10,000 baht ($293), according to Reuters.
Nithit Intim, the founder of the park, told CNN that it will cover medical expenses but no "other kind of expenses."
Intim said that the park has already covered the cost of an x-ray and ultrasound scans, adding that Mike signed a liability waiver before making the jump, per CNN.

The tourist, who asked to use only his first name Mike to avoid online harassment, took a swan dive off of a 10-storey-high podium in the town of Pattaya while on holiday in January this year.
Fortunately, the jump was made over a body of water. The bungee rope snapped milliseconds before Mike neared the bottom of his jump, slamming him into the water below.
"I landed on my left side so the injuries were more serious there," Mike told CNN, recounting how he was left covered in bruises. "It was as if someone just beat me up real bad."
His plunge was witnessed by friends who were with him at the Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park.
Located in the northwest of Pattaya, the amusement park offers activities ranging from ziplines to live-round shooting.
Mike said he originally went to the park to try out the firing range, but plucked up the courage to do a bungee jump after his friends dared him.
"It was really high so I closed my eyes. I planned to open my eyes again when I bounced back up," said Mike. "I realized the cord had snapped when I opened my eyes and I was surrounded by water."
He managed to resurface and swim despite his feet being tied together by the lower half of the snapped bungee cord.
"If the person doesn't know how to swim, he or she will be in big trouble," he said.
Mike said the park refunded the cost of his jump and paid for x-ray and ultrasound scans in Thailand.
Nithit Intim, founder of the park, confirmed the accident took place and said it was first time he had seen a cord snap.
"After the cord was broken, our staff got him [mike] out of the water immediately, and asked him if he was okay," he told CNN. "He [Mike] said he felt bruised. So we took him to the hospital."
Intim said Mike had signed a liability waiver before making the jump. He also sent a photograph of what he said was the signed waiver, as well as copies of the medical bills in Thailand.
"Our staff explained that if any mishap happens or any accident takes place, our company will compensate medical bills. But the client can't demand for compensation on other kind of expenses," Intim said.
He added that the park would be willing to pay any further direct medical expenses in Hong Kong if receipts were provided.

Tourist Survives 10-Story Fall After Cord Snaps During Bungee Jump
The lucky man later said it felt like somebody “just beat me up real bad.”
By Chris Lau and Kocha Olarn, CNN
(CNN) – Some thrill seekers describe bungee jumping as a near-death experience, but few come quite as close as one man who managed to survive his cord snapping in Thailand.
Footage of the terrifying ordeal went viral this week after the 39-year-old tourist from Hong Kong went public with his story.
The tourist, who asked to use only his first name Mike to avoid online harassment, took a swan dive off a 10-story-high podium in the town of Pattaya while on holiday in January this year.
Fortunately, the jump was made over a body of water. The bungee rope snapped milliseconds before Mike neared the bottom of his jump, slamming him into the water below.
“I landed on my left side so the injuries were more serious there,” Mike told CNN, recounting how he was left covered in bruises. “It was as if someone just beat me up real bad.”
“It was really high so I closed my eyes. I planned to open my eyes again when I bounced back up,” said Mike. “I realized the cord had snapped when I opened my eyes and I was surrounded by water.”
He managed to resurface and swim despite his feet being tied together by the lower half of the snapped bungee cord.
“If the person doesn’t know how to swim, he or she will be in big trouble,” he said.
Mike said the park refunded the cost of his jump and paid for x-ray and ultrasound scans in Thailand.
Nithit Intim, founder of the park, confirmed the accident took place and said it was the first time he had seen a cord snap.
“After the cord was broken, our staff got him [Mike] out of the water immediately, and asked him if he was okay,” he told CNN. “He [Mike] said he felt bruised. So we took him to the hospital.”
Intim said Mike had signed a liability waiver before making the jump. He also sent a photograph of what he said was the signed waiver, as well as copies of the medical bills in Thailand.
“Our staff explained that if any mishap happens or any accident takes place, our company will compensate medical bills. But the client can’t demand for compensation on other kind of expenses,” Intim said.
He added that the park would be willing to pay any further direct medical expenses in Hong Kong if receipts were provided.

One lucky tourist is bouncing back after a terrifying bungee cord break.
A 39-year-old man barely escaped death after his line snapped during a 10-story jump. Video of the terrifying moment went viral after the victim decided to share his harrowing experience.
Mike, who gave only a first name in the interest of privacy, decided to go bungee jumping while on vacation in Pattaya, Thailand, with a friend earlier this year.
The Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park has a wide range of activities including zip lines and live-round shooting.
The Hong Kong resident originally went to try out the firing range, but then decided he would bungee jump on a lark after one of his travel buddies did so.
The tourist jumped off the podium, and milliseconds before he reached the bottom of the plunge the rope snapped, sending him into the body of water below.
“It was really high so I closed my eyes. I planned to open my eyes again when I bounced back up,” Mike told CNN . “I realized the cord had snapped when I opened my eyes and I was surrounded by water.”
Mike was knocked unconscious when he hit the water and was left covered in bruises from the fall.
“I landed on my left side so the injuries were more serious there,” he said. “It was as if someone just beat me up real bad.”
Thankfully, Mike was able to come up to the surface and swim, even though his feet were still tied together by the lower part of the bungee cord.
“If the person doesn’t know how to swim, he or she will be in big trouble,” he admitted.
Adventure park founder Nithit Intim claimed that this was the first time he had seen a cord snap.
“After the cord was broken, our staff got [Mike] out of the water immediately, and asked him if he was OK,” he told CNN. “[Mike] said he felt bruised. So we took him to the hospital.”
Mike revealed that the park covered the cost of X-ray and ultrasound scans as well as refunding the price of the jump.
Mike had signed a liability waiver prior to making the jump, according to Intim, who also said that the park would be willing to pay any additional direct medical costs if they’re provided with receipts.
“Our staff explained that if any mishap happens or any accident takes place, our company will compensate medical bills. But the client can’t demand for compensation on other kind of expenses,” Intim said.

Horror moment tourist’s bungee cord snaps
A tourist has survived after plunging 10 storeys when his bungee cord snapped. But the company’s response left him stunned.

Shock twist after plane slide falls off mid-air
This is the shocking moment a tourist’s bungee cord snapped and sent him plummeting into a lake.
While travelling in Pattaya, Thailand, in February, the tourist from Hong Kong and his friend decided to try bungee jumping.
The man, called Mike, was waiting for his turn after watching his friend make a successful jump from a crane platform that was 10 storeys high, The Sun reports.
Staff then tied the bungee cord to Mike’s feet and he was ushered towards the edge.
But nothing could have prepared him for what happened next.
Mike flew with his arms outstretched for 30m before the rope attached to his ankle snapped – about 5m above a lake.
He plunged into the lake below as horrified onlookers watched.
The tourist blacked out from the impact with the water as staff scrambled to try to help him. Fortunately, after a few seconds he regained consciousness and swam up to the surface.
He was then helped out of the water and rushed to hospital. Miraculously, doctors said he didn’t need any surgery, though he told local media that he felt dizzy from the intense pain of the disastrous fall.
He suffered from severe bruising, swelling around his left eye and even lost an entire layer of skin from his armpit.
Doctors reportedly said he was “fine” and released him from their care with some painkillers.
After returning to Hong Kong, Mike developed a lung infection as was revealed by a CT scan, MRI and X-ray.
He believes he either caught it from accidentally swallowing dirty lake water or had acquired it from the concussion.
After being hospitalised for three days, his medical costs had racked up to $9580, which was covered by his travel insurance.
But when Mike asked for compensation from the bungee jumping park for his near-death experience, he was left stunned at their response.
The park only offered him a refund of $A86 for his ticket, and said they would also pay for his immediate medical bill of $A350.
Mike said he has tried contacting the bungee jumping company since the accident in February, as well as the Tourism Authority of Thailand, but to no avail.
In an email he wrote: “My friends and I have suffered losses due to the accident, including changes to our travel plans, my injury and my suffering, and the time and income lost from constant check-ups and treatments after returning to Hong Kong.
“I have declined the park’s proposed compensation plan, as it is unfair to me. If the accident had been slightly more severe, I could have lost my life. After the accident, I discovered that a similar accident has happened in the same park before already.

Bungee cord in Thailand snaps, but jumper miraculously survives
A tourist sought the thrill of freefalling but wound up in a hospital after the bungee cord attached to his feet snapped in mid-air.
Mike, who is from Hong Kong, had leapt off a platform 10 storeys high - about 30 metres - before his cord broke, sending him plunging into a lake in popular Thai tourist destination Pattaya.
He momentarily blacked out in the water, reported Hong Kong news outlet hk01, but regained consciousness and swam out of the lake with the help of the attraction’s staff members.
The incident, which took place at the Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park, reportedly happened last month.
Mike told hk01: “The pain was so intense that I felt dizzy. As my arms were stretched out, my armpit area was the worst hit.”
A video of the incident shows Mike freefalling for about six seconds and approaching the surface of the lake when the bungee cord suddenly breaks off.
He enters the water head-first from a height of about five metres with a big splash, to the horror of his friends who were watching and filming the jump.
Pictures of his injuries show bruises on his limbs, with the skin around his armpit area appearing peeled. Mike told hk01 he also suffered a lung infection and was hospitalised for three days after returning to Hong Kong.

His medical bills came up to about HK$50,000 (S$8,510), which was covered by travel insurance. He said the park offered him only HK$2,300 in medical fees and a refund of the bungee jump.
Mike said he has written an email to the park and the Tourism Authority of Thailand to lodge a complaint but has not gotten a reply.
He wrote: “My friends and I suffered losses due to the accident, including changes to our travel plans, my injuries and income loss... If the accident had been more severe, I could have lost my life.”
Last November, a woman visiting Columbia accidentally leapt to her death after forgetting she was not attached to a bungee cord.
