On the surface, TV Girl is a sunny, throwback splash of ‘60s French pop and southern California soul. Yet, under that shiny veneer lays a dark heart, beating with sharp wit and cynical alienation. TV Girl, composed of Brad Petering, Jason Wyman and Wyatt Harmon, was formed in 2010 by Petering as an outlet to blend the love of Spector-esque girl-group pop with an emerging interest in hip-hop. Featuring shimmering vocals and sampled beats, the self- titled debut EP of the same year turned heads online immediately.

TV Girl will limber up for their anticipated Australian shows at Governors Ball and Bonnaroo, and New Zealand before bringing their lush vintage rhythms our way in July 2024. • On the surface, TV Girl is a sunny, throwback splash of ‘60s French pop and southern California soul. Yet, under that shiny veneer lays a dark heart, beating with sharp wit and cynical alienation. TV Girl, composed of  Brad Petering, Jason Wyman  and  Wyatt Harmon , was formed in 2010 by Petering as an outlet to blend the love of Spector-esque girl-group pop with an emerging interest in hip-hop. Featuring shimmering vocals and sampled beats, the self-titled debut EP of the same year turned heads online immediately.
• TV Girl unveiled their first full-length album in 2014, the critically acclaimed French Exit.  The album kept true to the TV Girl charm with a bevy of electronic samplings infused throughout light and airy guitars, whirring organs and ethereal vocals that tell the tale of moody characters fuelled by revenge as often as love, underpinned by a desperation and deep yearning to connect.
• Their second album Who Really Cares followed in 2016, finding the band double down on their heavy use of samples. The record saw TV Girl combine the aesthetic of 90’s hip hop with modern psychedelic pop, offering a glimpse into the psyche of a love scorned twenty-something.
• The band released their latest record Grapes Upon the Vine  in 2023. Their most mature effort yet, the album features extensive use of gospel samples as it explores themes of commitment, God, and the afterlife; not, of course, without TV Girl’s cynicism and biting wit. The band performed the record live across America in 2023, including an acclaimed set at Coachella.

Tv Girl is definitely an indie band to watch. Their sound is experimental and surprising at every angle. There is something very 60s and chic about their instrumental lines and their lyrics are always perfect storytellers. With every listen to one of their songs, the track just seems to get better and better for me, which I find rarely happens when I listen to new music. This band makes a great first impression and that impression ends up being ever-improving.

TV Girl is not just experimental with its sound, though; the group also experiments with their marketing and promotion practices. This June, the band released their debut album “French Exit” for free on Bandcamp. No warning was given at any point, but fans were blown away by both the surprise and the quality of their work.

When performing live, TV Girl are spirited and relishing every second of their time on stage. Their energy and stage-presence is a lot of fun and you’ll almost certainly want to see them all over again once their show is done. “Birds Don't Sing”, “Pantyhose” and “Melanie” are great tracks from their new album, that have a bubble-gum indie pop addictiveness that will keep you singing them for days.

I was able to attend the French Exit 6 1/2 year ann. tour this year and was blown away with their performance. For this tour, Jordana was the opening for T.V girl. Knowing a bit of Jordana I wasn't really a fan of her music. BUT, after listening to the opening set list I instantly became a fan.

After I think was a 30 minute wait after the opening set, T.V Girl and Jordana went on stage to play the first song "Pantyhose". From the starting song to the end their performance and the vibe they were giving off, it felt very alive in the venue. Some people may bash on the band playing on a different key or different tempo but I enjoyed the fresh sounds of songs that I am already familiar with. I also enjoyed how lively Wyatt and Jordana were through out the show :).

Favorite song from setlist: It Evaporates

If your friend bought your ticket and your just tagging along or you don't know how the songs normally go you will enjoy the show a lot. They sang in different keys and they changed the beat COMPLETELY to one of my favorite songs (taking whats not yours). The people around me were not even vibing with the music. At first, I thought I was being too harsh because my friends said they liked the show but they only knew one song from the band so of course they're gonna think the rest of the set was amazing. Some of the songs actually sounded the same but the overall show really left a sour taste in my mouth. At least the opening act was decent.

Their music is good in general but when performed live it kinda blew chunks. The opening act was pretty much the closest thing to a seizure that I’ll ever have and the singer of TV girl changed the pitch and pacing of some of the songs so it was almost impossible to follow along even if you actually knew the songs. I’m a huge asshole though so maybe it was fine for others.

The show was great. The two opening bands were a lot of fun. I enjoyed the first opening act - a solo artist (name?) who appeared to be having the best time ever.

My first time to the Teragram Ballroom - wonderful place, amazingly helpful and kind staff - and very clean.

This was the first time I've ever seen TV Girl in person and they were amazing. I loved their energy, their performing style, and the interaction they had with the crowd. Their chemistry with one another was electric which was fun to witness. Would definitely go see them again.

Really fun show, glad to see that they are getting a bigger crowd because they deserve it. Really funny finally and played some really deep cuts. Will continue to see them every time they play in the DFW area.

TV Girl is really fun to see and dance with. Goofy band with some sick beats. They gave me stickers which is the coolest thing any band can do ever. Go see them and vibe around a bit.

they put on a great show, music sounded just like the recorded songs and there was even dancing. Very friendly band!! I hope they come back, TV girl concert was a great experience.

It was an outstanding show! The lights and set design was lovely. I loved how intimate and relaxed it was. I would 100% go to another TV Girl show. :-)

Yes, we are disappointed that we will not be heading to Byron Bay this July, but fear not, some of the stellar acts on the lineup are still making their way to Australia.

This morning, news has dropped that the UK’s The Last Dinner Party and San Diego’s TV Girl will both be heading down under in July. They will be playing Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Indeed, in Brisbane they will be co-headling a show on Saturday the 20th. Pre-sale tickets for all shows go on sale tomorrow, 18th April. The details and links are below.

The Last Dinner Party formed in Brixton in 2021, started touring in 2023 and are currently one of those acts that everyone is talking about. Winning the prestigous Rising Star award at the 2024 Brits hasn’t hurt either. They are currently in the midst of playing at Coachella, and the clips that have emerged have got us very excited about their visit.

Their songs feature beautiful harmonies, and are bursting at the gills with drama. They throw off shades of the brilliance of David Bowie, Kate Bush and Queen. They’ve already rocked out at Glastonbury and will be heading back there again this year, as well as Roskilde in Denmark before heading down under.

An AU favourite, Tia Gostelow, will be supporting The Last Dinner Party in Sydney and Melbourne.

TV Girl  hail from the US and have been wowing audiences for the last few years with their summer-soaked tunes. They throw off hazy Californian vibes that have been infused with some well-placed sampling of gospel gems and loops of vintage films. There’s plenty of ethereal vocals, beautiful guitars and twists of hip hop and psych pop.

TV Girl released their latest record Grapes Upon the Vine in 2023. This was an album that explored themes of commitment, God, and the afterlife. They ask the big questions, whilst giving you reason to dance.

Last year, they played at Reading and Leeds Festivals, Coachella and Pukkelpop. Before heading down to Australia, they will be hitting the stages at Governors Ball and Bonnaroo.

TV Girl Announce Debut Australian Tour

TV Girl are the latest artist from the nixed Splendour In The Grass line-up for 2024 to proceed with what would have been their sideshows around it in July 2024. The San Diego indie-pop trio will perform three shows along the east coast while they are in Australia. This will include a co-headlining show with UK upstarts The Last Dinner Party at the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane.

The shows will additionally mark the first time TV Girl have performed in Australia, nearly 15 years after they initially formed circa 2010. The tour comes in support of the band’s fourth studio album Grapes Upon The Vine , which was released in June 2023.

TV Girl – ‘99.5’

Sharing the news to their own social media pages, the band shared a tongue-in-cheek message with Australian fans ahead of the shows. “Attention Australian friends, or ‘mates’!” it began. “We have heard your sad, pitiable cries for “America’s Favorite Indie Band” to finally make their way to your side of the equator! On the surface, TV Girl is a sunny, throwback splash of ‘60s French pop and southern California soul. Yet, under that shiny veneer lays a dark heart, beating with sharp wit and cynical alienation, and the music is all the more alluring for it. TV Girl , composed of Brad Petering, Jason Wyman, and Wyatt Harmon, was formed in 2010 by Petering as an outlet to blend the love of Spector-esque girl-group pop with an emerging interest in hip-hop. Featuring shimmering vocals and sampled beats, the self-titled debut EP of the same year turned heads online immediately; the group’s lush vintage rhythms and timeless pop hooks were even making waves on the BBC. 

In 2014, TV Girl unveiled their first full-length, the critically acclaimed French Exit . The album keeps true to the TV Girl charm with a bevy of electronic samplings infused throughout light and airy guitars, whirring organs, and ethereal vocals. However, this record is not all summer nostalgia, and there are plenty of times where French Exit reads like disaffected fiction. The moody characters in these songs are fueled by revenge as often as love, underpinned by desperation and a deep yearning to connect.

Their 2016 follow up, Who Really Cares , finds the band doubling down on their heavy use of samples. Combining the aesthetic of 90’s hip hop with modern psychedelic pop, Who Really Cares offers a glimpse into the psyche of a love scorned twenty-something.

TV Girl ’s latest album, Grapes Upon the Vine , is the band’s most mature effort to date. Featuring extensive use of gospel samples, the album explores themes of commitment, God, and the afterlife, not, of course, without TV Girl ’s cynicism and biting wit.

girl in red Announces 2024 Australian Tour Dates

girl in red isn’t letting the shock cancellation of Splendour In The Grass stop her from visiting fans down under in 2024. Hot on the heels of releasing her sophomore album I’M DOING IT AGAIN BABY! earlier this month, the Norwegian alt-pop superstar has just announced a four-date Australian headline tour to fill the Splendour-shaped hole in her July itinerary.

Marie Ulven, the woman behind the girl in red project, will be kicking off her tour in Perth, before visiting fans in Sydney, Melbourne and wrapping things up in Brisbane.

girl in red’s new 10-song LP chronicles Ulven’s past few years of feeling confusingly frustrated, despite racking up commercial and critical acclaim, major festival appearances and millions upon millions of streams.

“The past five years have been so insane, and that I’ve been given this opportunity is insane,” Ulven explains in a press statement. “But I think what’s really hitting me now is that I need to pursue music fully, and that’s something I want to do with this record. I just want to go all in on girl in red in 2024. I’m at a point where I’m willing to fly.”
