Campus Visit FAQs

The University of Miami has three campuses on more than 400 acres in Miami-Dade County, stretching from Coral Gables and the city of Miami to South Dade.

  • The Coral Gables campus , the University’s main campus, is home to our undergraduate schools and colleges and the School of Law. It is located on a 239-acre tract in Coral Gables, approximately seven miles from downtown Miami.
  • The Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine campus , in the Health District near downtown Miami, consists of 72 acres within the 153-acre University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center complex.
  • The Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science campus is located on an 18-acre waterfront campus on Virginia Key in Biscayne Bay.

We offer information sessions and student-led walking tours throughout the year. Visit our  Information Session and Campus Tour Schedule  page for availability.

Note: We reserve the right to cancel information sessions and campus tours at any time.

We welcome your visit request at any time; however, please keep in mind that additional time may be necessary to customize your visit and accommodate any special requests.

You will receive a confirmation email if you provide a valid email address to us when scheduling your visit. This email will contain very important information about your visit such as parking instructions.

Our  Self-Guided Walking Tour   is the next best thing to a guided tour. As you take yourself around campus, be sure to take in the sights and enjoy your time on campus. The Self-Guided Walking Tour includes:

  • a campus map
  • point-by-point descriptions of what you'll see on campus
  • information about places and things of interest, such as our academic offerings, student life, residential colleges, performance venues, and photo opportunities
  • information about places to grab a bite to eat

Absolutely; if you are unable to visit our campus in person, we encourage you to take our  Virtual Tour  anytime, anywhere!

The Office of Undergraduate Admission is happy to host special tours for groups of 15-60 people. The group tour is designed for students who are currently engaged in the college search process. Visit our  Special Group Tours  page for more information.

In the event that you need to cancel your visit, please refer to the cancellation link at the bottom of your confirmation email. You could then register for a different day by completing the registration process again.

Please email our admission inbox at [email protected] , with the subject line “ Campus Visit Update. ” Be sure to include your full name and date of birth on all correspondence along with the information you wish to update.

You can schedule campus visits for dates that occur in the near future. If your intended date is in the distant future, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission at 305-284-6000 to confirm that an information session and/or tour is offered on that day.

You must register prior to attending a campus information or tour, as space may be limited.

We recommend that all campus visitors park in our Pavia Parking Garage. Enter the following address into your navigation system:

Pavia Parking Garage  5615 Pavia Street  Coral Gables, FL 33146

The office hours are as follows:   Monday - Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Please note the University is closed on all national holidays.

A general information session about academics, student life, the admission process, and financial aid at the University of Miami. The information session lasts approximately 45 minutes.

If you have additional questions after the information session and campus tour, an admission counselor will be available to help you.

For financial aid questions, you may contact the   Office of Student Financial Assistance and Employment .

Our guided tours showcase both the academic and residential sides of campus. The student ambassador will also cover UM’s history, traditions, dining, styles of residence hall options, student centers, library, bookstore, and other campus facilities while walking around campus. The tour lasts approximately one hour.

Campus tours walk throughout the heart of campus. While UM is a very walkable campus, we do recommend wearing comfortable shoes and dressing casually.

If you will need special accommodations (e.g., a wheelchair), email Daisy Guasch at [email protected] with the subject line “ Special Accommodation ” at least three weeks in advance of your visit. Be sure to include your full name and date of birth on all correspondence.

During the tour, there will be an opportunity to walk through academic buildings and see classrooms from a distance.

Parent participation is not mandatory but is highly encouraged—much of the information covered during the information session and campus tour is helpful for parents of future Miami Hurricanes as well as the students.

Although we love furry friends, we request that pets are not brought on campus tours. Service animals are always welcome.

If the rain is light to moderate, your tour will most likely still go on. If severe weather conditions occur, we cannot permit a walking tour to go outside out of concern for your safety.

In most cases, the campus tour follows the information session. During select times of the year, a campus-tour-only option is offered. See our  Visit  page for more information.

The Office of Undergraduate Admission is not able to schedule athletic appointments. You or your coach should contact the appropriate UM  coach  for information about the recruitment process.

International travel, whether for personal or business reasons, can be challenging and demanding. Travelers may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases that are found in other parts of the world. Vaccinations can help protect you against diseases such as yellow fever and tick-borne encephalitis, among others.

The UHealth Travel Medicine Clinic is here to provide you with needed country-specific information, travel vaccines and medications for you, the international traveler.

Pre-trip consultations

We will recommend a plan of treatment aimed to protect you during your travels. The types of immunizations and other protective measures can vary depending on your travel plans and your particular risk level. Consultations will cover all relevant topics including:

  • Immunizations
  • Detailed travel medicine reports for each country visited.
  • Advice on health concerns endemic to countries visited.
  • Detailed prevention strategies for:
  • Insect-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis.
  • Food and water-borne illness such as traveler’s diarrhea and schistosomiasis.
  • High altitude sickness.
  • Specific traveler related issues including pregnant travelers, travel with children, solo travelers and female travelers.
  • TB testing if applicable.

Post-trip Consultations

Many illnesses may only manifest after your return to the U.S. Screening for certain illnesses such as tuberculosis or intestinal parasites can save you from more serious problems later on. We can provide for the treatment of post travel-related diseases or arrange for timely consultations to specialized units if needed.

Services Offered

Itinerary-specific, pre-travel consultation and immunization for children and adults, including:

  • Hepatitis A, typhoid, meningococcal, and Japanese encephalitis vaccines
  • All other recommended vaccines (e.g. tetanus, measles/mumps/rubella, polio, hepatitis B, and others)
  • Advice on the prevention of disease transmitted by mosquitoes such as dengue fever and Japanese B encephalitis
  • Advice on malaria prevention — where, when, and how
  • Advice on the prevention and treatment of traveler’s diarrhea
  • Advice on special issues such as medical care abroad, altitude sickness, and jet lag
  • Information regarding travel with children or during pregnancy
  • Travel health advice for individuals with chronic diseases including immunosuppressive disorders
  • Education on how to help prevent the development of blood clots in the lower extremities during long flights(thought this would be a good service if we could provide)

Travel vaccines keep individuals healthy by protecting against life-threatening diseases. This is the first and most important step that you, the traveler, should take in preparing for international travel. You may require several kinds of travel immunizations.

All immunizations on the CDC list are 100% covered for UM/Aetna medical plan participants. Some co-pays may apply for consultations. Faculty and staff not participating in the UM/Aetna medical plan should contact their insurance carrier for coverage and benefit information

Items Needed During Appointment

  • Health and Immunization history
  • Current Medications
  • List of any existing health problems or conditions
  • Itinerary, with Destinations Accommodations and Length of stay
  • Details of Planned Activities such as a jungle walk, river rafting, tour of outlying villages, etc.

Ensure safe travels for you and your data

By Life@TheU

During the holidays, many people travel to visit family and friends. At the same time, cybercriminals are hard at work looking for ways to take advantage of unsuspecting travelers. While we all know there are potential physical threats, it’s important to be mindful of digital threats around us—especially when traveling.

As part of your travel planning, carve out time to do some important basic steps like ensuring your software is up-to-date. On the road, take only what you need and keep your devices with you at all times. Looking for internet? Be cautious when connecting to public Wi-Fi and use strong passwords for all your accounts.

Business | former bru’s room site in coral springs purchased by owners of upscale local restaurant chain.

Six weeks after closing, the building that formerly housed Bru's Room Bar & Grill in Coral Springs remains at the site, with exterior signage intact. The property's new owners said they bought it as an investment and have no immediate plans to open another restaurant there. (Ron Hurtibise/South Florida Sun Sentinel)

The former Bru’s Room Bar & Grill location in Coral Springs has been purchased by the owners of an upscale restaurant chain based in South Florida.

That chain — Kaluz Restaurants — currently operates in Fort Lauderdale, Plantation and Wellington.

And while the site’s former owner, Benedict Fillichio, said in February that a “very good restaurant chain” would open in Bru’s Room’s place, an officer of the company that purchased the site, contacted by text, said they have no plans to open anything on it “as of yet.”

Alina Demirdjian, identified by the Florida Division of Corporations as manager of Lori Springs LLC, which was formed in early February with Bru’s Room’s former location of 1000 N. University Drive as its principal address, responded to a voice mail and text message on Monday morning.

“We have purchased this property as an investment and we do not have plans to build anything as of yet,” Demirdjian said in a text.

Dermidjian said there are no plans to demolish the building, despite statements by an auction company as it liquidated all of Bru’s Room’s fixtures and furnishings in February.

On Monday, the building remained unchanged from when it was closed during the last weekend of February, with the Bru’s Room exterior signage intact, roll-down shutters covering the outdoor seating area, and plywood protecting the building’s windows.

No construction or demolition permits have been opened with the city of Coral Springs, according to the permitting department’s website.

Nor does the property appear for sale or lease on popular websites that advertise commercial real estate.

Bru’s Rooms, founded by former Miami Dolphins player Robert “Bob” Brudzinski, are still open in Coconut Creek, Pembroke Pines and Boynton Beach, phone calls confirmed on Monday.

A Bru’s Room also operates under separate ownership on South Federal Highway in Pompano Beach.

Asked whether the owners changed their minds about locating a Kaluz Restaurant at the site since purchasing the building in February, Demirdjian responded, “As I mentioned, we have no active development plans.”

The Broward County Public Records website shows that the transaction was finalized on Feb. 28. Fillichio, as manager of B&B Properties-University Drive LLC, transferred the 86,814-square-foot parcel to Lori Springs LLC, based at 3300 E. Commercial Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, for $5.15 million.

David Baldwin is identified as Lori Springs’ registered agent. Baldwin is listed as registered agent of two other companies, Kalik LLC and Tavush Plantation LLC, that also identify Demirdjian as manager.

Tavush Plantation LLC’s principal address is 100 N. University Drive, Plantation, and Kalik LLC’s principal address is 3300 E. Commercial Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.

Baldwin is listed as manager of Arka Grill Company West LLC, with a principal address of 2025 Wellington Green Drive, Wellington.

Kaluz Restaurant’s website lists the three addresses as the chain’s Fort Lauderdale, Plantation and Wellington locations.

If a Kaluz Restaurant eventually were to come to the site, it would cater to consumers seeking offerings that are more refined, and more expensive, than Bru’s Room’s, based on the menu displayed on Kaluz’s website.

Entree prices range from $26 for Maple Leaf Duck Confit to $62 for a 20-ounce Bone-In Ribeye with peppercorn steak sauce and loaded baked potato.

Other selections include Bar Harbor Crabcakes, $45, and Hatfield Farm Pork Chops, $32, and Scallops Pomegranate, $45.

An eight-ounce “Classic Cheeseburger” with choice of fries or cole slaw sells for $19 while a Colorado Lamb Burger made with a lamb and beef blend, sun-dried tomato aioli, arugula, goat cheese and caramelized onion is $20.

Coral Springs’ permitting search site shows that the location at 1000 N. University Drive was occupied in 1994 by Red Robin, a fast-casual burger restaurant, and Chevy’s, a TexMex restaurant, beginning in 1998.

In addition to closing the Coral Springs restaurant, Bru’s Room’s owner recently shut down longtime locations in Deerfield Beach and Delray Beach.

The Delray Beach site is owned by Delray Trio LLC while the Deerfield Beach location is owned by two Washington D.C. investors, Elizabeth Barker and Jean Barber.

2024 solar eclipse map: Where to see the eclipse on April 8

These 2024 solar eclipse maps will help you make the best decision about where and how to watch the total solar eclipse on Monday (April 8).

map of north america showing the path of the april 8 solar eclipse

It's finally here: Today, (April 8) a total solar eclipse will pass across the skies North America, giving more than 33 million people living in 15 U.S. states a rare view of the totally-obstructed sun, and — weather permitting — a taste of some seriously strange eclipse phenomena .

If you’re wondering where the total and partial phases of the eclipse will be visible, the good news is that almost everyone in the contiguous U.S. will be able to see the celestial spectacle to some extent. But for a more detailed view of the eclipse’s path, take a look at these handy eclipse maps, courtesy of GreatAmericanEclipse.com.

Solar eclipse 2024 path of totality map

Map of path of totality across North America of solar eclipse, tilted to show its full path over mexico and canada

Totality is the moment that every eclipse-chaser lives for: The moment when the moon completely covers the sun’s face, resulting in a brief but eerie darkness in the daytime. The path of totality , shown in the map above, is the path of the moon’s shadow across Earth’s surface.

On Monday (April 8), totality will begin in Sinaloa, Mexico, then move northeast up to Texas, ultimately crossing 15 states before moving on to Canada. The states where totality will be visible are: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine — although Tennessee and Michigan will only be glanced by the moon's shadow.

Related: April 8 solar eclipse: What time does totality start in every state?

Viewers MUST be within the path of totality to witness the total phase of the eclipse; if you are off the path by even a mile, you will only see a partial eclipse, and miss out on the spooky daytime darkness. Furthermore, the closer you are to the center of the path of totality, the longer totality will last for you — up to a maximum duration of 4 minutes, 27 seconds in Torreón, Mexico.

Note: Totality is the ONLY TIME when it is safe to view the sun without protective eyewear like certified solar eclipse glasses . You must protect your eyes during the entire partial phase of the eclipse, no matter where you are.

Solar eclipse 2024 partial eclipse map

A map of total and partial eclipse coverage across North America on April 8, 2024.

If you live in the U.S. and can’t make it to the path of totality, a partial eclipse still awaits you on April 8. The entire contiguous U.S. will have some view of the partial eclipse, ranging from 99% coverage of the sun just off the path of totality to about 15% coverage far to the northwest of the path.

The map above shows how much of the sun’s disk will be blocked from your location. Watching the partial phases of the eclipse — which last about an hour and 20 minutes before and after totality — means wearing protective eyewear at all times. Failure to do so could result in permanent eye damage, according to NASA .

If you want to experience the celestial spectacle but don’t have a pair of eclipse glasses handy, there are many other ways to safely enjoy the partial eclipse . These include making a homemade pinhole projector , using a pasta strainer to project the shadow of the moon onto the ground or watching one of the various eclipse live streams available.

2024 eclipse travel maps

A travel map showing driving distances to the path of totality on April 8, 2024

If you want to see totality but don’t live within the path, driving or taking public transit to a city within the path may be possible. The map above shows how far the drive is to the path of totality, based on where you’re coming from. Meanwhile, the map below shows the most populated cities within the path of totality — many of which are expected to be flooded with millions of eclipse tourists on April 8.

The biggest cities within the path of totality include: San Antonio, Dallas, Austin and Fort Worth in Texas; Indianapolis, Indiana; Hamilton and Montreal in Canada; and Torreón and Mazatlan in Mexico.

A map showing the 10 biggest cities on the path of the April 8, 2024 eclipse

Wherever you are on April 8, we wish you clear skies and protected eyes during this rare, wondrous eclipse over North America.

UW–Madison graduate students win award to pursue artistic research in Europe

UW–Madison’s Tandem Press has awarded graduate students David Love and Emilee Taxman the Gabriele S. Haberland Graduate Student Printmaking Award for Travel to Europe.

In 2019, UW–Madison Professor Emeritus Willy Haeberli established two annual travel awards of $4,000 each in honor of his late wife, Gabriele Haberland. Haberland believed in the power of travel to expand a student’s worldview and influence their artistic development, and she especially believed that art was best viewed in person rather than in reproduction or online.

Haberland’s husband created this scholarship in her name so that UW–Madison graduate students in printmaking could further their studies and experience firsthand the works of Europe’s master printmakers.

university of miami travel site

Both Love and Taxman are pursuing MFA degrees in printmaking in the School of Education’s Art Department, and expect to graduate in May 2024. Love will use the award funds to visit Denmark, the Netherlands, and Germany, where he plans to visit both historic and contemporary print shops and study the relationship between historic preservation and progressive innovation.

He wrote in his application: “My goal for this travel opportunity would be to learn about the lineage from the old masters of printmaking to the rise of commercial printing to the shift toward fine art publishing as an alternative art market. I want to experience contemporary print studios that are rooted in historic places to see how the lineage of printmaking is honored today from the European artists and printers themselves.”

university of miami travel site

Taxman, who studies book arts and letterpress printing, will use the funds to travel to Berlin, Amsterdam, and Madrid to engage in research and enrich their future artistic pursuits. “My (recent) show centers around transgender stories and experiences, but it is from an American lens and focuses specifically on Madison,” they write in their application. “There is such a rich queer history in Europe, and engaging with those communities and areas would be generative for my work and broaden my perspective.”

Tandem Press is a self-funded entity housed within the School of Education’s  Art Department  at UW–Madison. It is one of only three professional printmaking studios and press affiliated with a university in the United States. As a gallery, Tandem Press represents, promotes, and sells the artworks created in their studio both locally and nationally throughout the year. As a nonprofit educational institution, Tandem Press partners with other departments at UW–Madison to offer artist lectures, tours, printmaking workshops, and other special events to serve both the student and public community.
