2024 Guide to Visiting Bob Evans Farms

Every Midwesterner knows the name Bob Evans — usually, as the restaurant chain that you visit with family after church on Sunday. But even if you’ve visited the chain many times, you might not know about the real Bob Evans farms .

The “Homestead,” as it is sometimes called, is located in Southeast Ohio, drawing tourists throughout the year to explore its unique attractions. If you’re planning a visit to Rio Grande Ohio, here’s everything you need to know about Bob Evans farms.

Bob Evans Farm - Rio Grande, Ohio

About Bob Evans Farms & Its History

Long before the name Bob Evans was recognized as a restaurant chain, it was known in Southeast Ohio as a family-owned farm. Bob and Jewell Evans lived here for 20 years, raising six children and working the land.

The Evanses bought the farm in the 1940s, along with a nearby diner. However, Evans was frustrated by his inability to find a producer of quality sausage to serve in the diner. He decided to begin producing it himself, leading to the founding of the first Bob Evans restaurant.

By the 1970s, Bob Evans restaurants was an established chain throughout Ohio with the slogan “Down on the Farm.” Over time, the company has expanded to have locations in 19 states.

The original 1,000-acre farm is still a working farm, but it also draws many visitors for other activities. It is a tourist attraction, campground, museum, and historic memorial.

The Bob Evans farm features several historic buildings, including the main building. Originally a stagecoach inn, the structure is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Things to Do at Bob Evans Farm

When you visit the Bob Evans farm , you might be surprised at how much there is to do! The working farm still has animals (especially horses), but the real draw here is the historic buildings and museum.

Tour Adamsville Village

The Bob Evans farm property includes Adamsville Village, a cluster of buildings dating from the 19th century. The log cabin buildings are still standing and open for tourists. The main farmhouse also dates from around this time and was once a stagecoach inn.

Enjoy the Outdoors

Just beyond Adamsville Village is the expanse of the farm property, which is used for outdoor activities, especially along the trails. Visitors enjoy horseback riding and hiking, as well as canoeing along the nearby river.

Visit the Museum

The Bob Evans farmhouse, once the home of the Evans family, is now a company museum. It contains displays about the history of the farm and the restaurant chain, as well as life-size dioramas of the Evans family’s life and original commercials for Bob Evans restaurants.

Eat at the Original Bob Evans Restaurant

Along with the Bob Evans farm continuing to be a working farm, the original Rio Grande Ohio diner is still a restaurant where you can grab a home-cooked meal. Choose from omelets, pancakes, burgers, sandwiches, turkey, chicken, steak, seafood, and more.

Attend the Bob Evans Farm Festival

Throughout the year, you will find many special events going on at the Bob Evans farm. The most popular is the annual Farm Festival, but you can always check in to see what else is scheduled.

The Bob Evans Farm Festival is a harvest celebration that has been going on for more than 50 years, and it has become a famous tradition for many Ohioans. This Ohio fall festival takes place every year in mid-October for one weekend.

Attractions and activities include live bluegrass performances, friendly competitions, arts and crafts, and fair booths selling handmade goods. You’ll also get the chance to see unique live entertainment, like ax throwing, chainsaw carving, and horseshoe tricks.

It should come as no surprise that there is plenty of good food at the Bob Evans Farm Festival too. You will find many locally made, farm-fresh options and autumnal favorites — from bean soup to fresh apple cider, roasted corn, ice cream, baked goods, and Ohio cheese.

Stay at the Bob Evans Farm Campground

If you enjoy camping, you can find an excellent campground right on the Bob Evans farm property. This campground is most popular during the annual autumn festival when tourists set up their tents to enjoy the weekend-long festival.

Though there are no water or electrical hookups, you’ll find restrooms, potable water, round-the-clock security, and a dump station. Reservations are not required, and it’s free to stay!

Things to Know Before Visiting the Farm

Before visiting the Bob Evans farm, it is important to remember that the property is considered historically important. In fact, it has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is vital that visitors be respectful of the property and buildings during their stay.

If you plan to stay “down on the farm,” you do not need a reservation. However, bear in mind that there are only minimal hookups. The farm does not have a full-service campground.

Kevin Mitchell (Jebediah, Bob Evans) Announces National Retrospective Tour

Fresh from being announced on the lineup for Good Things 2023 with his band Jebediah , Kevin Mitchell AKA Bob Evans has just announced a national headline tour, playing the hits from both of his big projects.

The national anthology concert tour, entitled  When Kev Met Bob , will see the Aussie icon perform songs from across his 30-year-spanning catalogue with both Jebediah and his Bob Evans alter ego at nine 18+ dates across Melbourne, Daylesford, Archies Creek, Adelaide, Perth, Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns this September, October and November.

“It’s a little scary!” Kev said in a press statement. “I haven’t really done a proper ‘tour’ in years, as my last album,  Tomorrowland , came out during all the COVID lockdowns, so touring has been extremely sporadic ever since.”

He continued: “This is a show I have always had in the back of my mind though. I have always just kind of been sitting on it and waiting until it felt right to do so. For nearly 30 years I have kept my solo music and my Jebediah music separate, and that has been a very deliberate decision that was also an important one to me. I think I have reached the point now however where that separation has done its job. So I suppose it feels a little freeing and exciting to step into a new phase now; The Kevin Evans years!”

Kev will deliver the show over the course of two sets, kicking off with a set full of classic material from the ‘90s and ‘00s, including a bunch of Jebediah rarities, before moving onwards to the  Bob Evans  years in set two.

“I really think it’s quite simple, there’s no trick to it,” Kev continued. “I still love it and haven’t quit. I suppose that begs the question why. My motivations in the very beginning were always just based around satisfying my own happiness and not really about achieving any sort of tangible markers of success.  So my love for it has never been reliant on anything else so it’s never gone away.”

Tickets to the When Kev Met Bob tour are on sale now, and you can check out all the dates and details down below.

Rolling Stones members Ronnie Wood (L), Mick Jagger and Keith Richards rock out in concert.

The Rolling Stones have decided who will “Start Them Up” on tour this year.

However, unlike most tours, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are mixing things up and bringing different opening acts to each city they’re hitting on the spring and summer  ‘The Stones Tour ’24 Hackney Diamonds.’

Just a few of the big names joining them include Gary Clark Jr. ( April 28 in Houston ), Joe Bonamassa ( May 15 in Seattle ), Tyler Childers ( June 3 in Orlando ), KALEO ( June 11 in Philadelphia ) and Lainey Wilson ( June 30 in Chicago ).

As for their MetLife Stadium gigs, pop-soul outfit Lawrence is slated to kick things off at their Sunday, May 26 concert ; no opener has been announced for the Thursday, May 23 show .

And if you’ve been on the fence about catching Mick, Keith and Ronnie live because you fear exorbitant ticket prices, we’re happy to report that some shows have cheaper seats available than one might imagine.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we found on tickets was just $21 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Yes, you read that right. Just $21. We couldn’t believe it either.

Other nights have seats starting anywhere from $44 to $109 before fees (excluding festival dates).

Curious how much tickets cost and who will be opening for the Stones at the show nearest you this year?

While we can’t guarantee we’ll give you what you want, we promise you’ll get what you need.

Our team has all the details you’re looking for and more about the Rolling Stones’ 2024 ‘Hackney Diamonds Tour’ below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Rolling Stones tour schedule 2024

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues, opening acts, and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found below.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

New Orleans Jazz Festival 2024

Rolling Stones openers on tour

Many of the big names joining the Stones on the road have quite a few more shows lined up this year.

For a clearer picture, here are all the Rolling Stones opening acts who are on tour these next few months.

Gary Clark Jr. Carin León Joe Bonamassa

Lawrence The Red Clay Strays Tyler Childers KALEO Widespread Panic Lainey Wilson The War and Treaty The Beaches

The Rolling Stones set list

This 16-concert run will be the group’s first official North American trek since 2019’s ‘No Filter Tour,’ which concluded two years later due to COVID-related postponements.

Here’s what the band played at their last run, courtesy of  Set List FM .

01.) “Street Fighting Man” 02.) “Let’s Spend the Night Together” 03.) “19th Nervous Breakdown” 04.) “Tumbling Dice” 05.) “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” 06.) “Living in a Ghost Town” 07.) “Start Me Up” 08.) “Honky Tonk Women” 09.) “Connection” 10.) “Slipping Away” 11.) “Miss You” 12.) “Midnight Rambler” 13.) “Paint It Black” 14.) “Sympathy for the Devil” 15.) “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”

16.) “Gimme Shelter”

17.) “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”

Most recently, the band surprised New Yorkers when they performed a set at  Racket  in the Meatpacking District with Lady Gaga.

You can find their seven-song set list from the October 2023 one-off show  here .

The Rolling Stones new music

On Oct. 20, the Stones released their 26th American studio album,  “Hackney Diamonds,”  featuring special guests Paul McCartney, Elton John, Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder.

Comprised of 12 hard-rocking tracks that wouldn’t be out of place alongside their singalong stadium anthems of yore, “Diamonds” shows that Mick, Keith, and Ronnie still have their sticky fingers on rock and roll’s pulse.

“We wouldn’t have put this album out if we didn’t really like it,” Jagger, 80, told Jimmy Fallon. “We must say that we are quite pleased with it. We’re not big-headed but we hope you like it.”

If you’re looking to sample the record, we suggest starting with the fierce lead track “Angry” and the wistful ballad “Dreamy Skies.”

Prefer to listen in full? You can find “Hackney Diamonds”  here .

Parks & Beaches group explores bringing Del Mar cleanup program to La Jolla

In an effort to broaden its reach and impact, the La Jolla Parks & Beaches group is looking to partner with other local coastal care groups and open space conservation organizations.

At the group’s April 22 meeting, President Bob Evans said efforts are under way to collaborate with groups from Del Mar to Balboa Park, as well as individuals across San Diego.

Among them, he said, is a possible partnership with an environmental initiative sponsored by the Del Mar Village Association and the city of Del Mar called Del Mar ShoreSaver .

“It is designed to enhance the cleanliness and ecological health of Del Mar’s beaches,” Evans said. “So they want to have mobile docking stations with reusable baskets to encourage the community and beach-goers to actively participate in trash collection, turning leisurely beach visits into opportunities for environmental stewardship.”

The program started with one station but may expand, he said.

“If this is something that can benefit our community, I would like to bring this to La Jolla,” Evans said. “I think the program could fit perfectly into what La Jolla is about.”

An LJP&B working group will form to meet with representatives of Del Mar ShoreSaver and report back to the board.

“This can be a template that goes all the way down our shoreline areas,” Evans said.

Parks & Beaches member Diane Kane noted that if the program is brought to La Jolla, trash receptacles would need to be emptied more often.

“One of the issues with trash at the beach is getting the trash collected,” she said. “So once you get it into a trash container, more often than not they are not collected fast enough and they overflow and seagulls get in there and make a mess. So we need to make sure that trash bins are empty.”

Evans said he wants to put together a board development workshop that would include speakers from other park-related nonprofits or conservation organizations.

“I want to see what natural open space conservancy groups such as the Torrey Pines Conservancy or Friends of Balboa Park have to say ... and learn about their successes and struggles and how they work out their mission statements and see how they carry out their vision,” he said.

To expand the board’s reach even more, LJP&B member Ann Dynes suggested exploring a membership program.

“Insurance is going up, costs are going up. ... In terms of having an income stream, I wonder if a membership program would lead to support,” she said. “We do a lot of good, and that could help build our budget and build our support base. It could be fairly simple to do.”

Evans suggested Dynes explore what other groups do regarding memberships and costs and benefits and report back with a plan.

“I love the idea,” Evans said. “I think it just needs to be formulated.”
