Bridal Cave showing caves

  • Things to do

I only need accommodations for part of my trip

Visit Bridal Cave

Bridal Cave is one of the natural wonders of the Lake of the Ozarks region. Take a guided tour to inspect the weirdly shaped formations inside the cave’s various chambers, which include spiky stalagmites, dripping stalactites, spindly soda straws and twisting columns.

The cave takes its name from an Osage Native American tale. Legends says that Wasena, daughter of Elkhorn, Chief of the Little Hills, was kidnapped and held here in the cave by Conwee, son of Chief Neongo of the Big Hills, who wanted to marry her. Wasena managed to escape the cave but Conwee pursued her. In an effort to elude his grasp, she jumped off the cliff to her death. Wasena’s friend, Irona, later married Conwee’s brother in this cave. If you have impending nuptials, consider booking a section of the cave for your wedding ceremony.

Follow a guide through the cave to see chambers full of striking mineral deposits. Your tour will go along concrete passageways that offer close-up views of the formations. As you visit each room, listen as your guide explains how the caves and the configurations were created. Try to spot the onyx formations that are so prevalent in this cave complex.

Normal tours last an hour and focus on the history, biology and geology of the cave. It’s possible to add on a gemstone mining experience. You will be given mining rough and will be taught how to pan for semi-precious minerals such as sapphires and emeralds. For an atmospheric treat, opt for a lantern tour and see the darkened cave as discoverers first found it before electric lighting was installed. Use a hand-held lantern to light the path as you make your way through the caverns.

Find Bridal Cave a few miles north of Camdenton. The cave is open daily year-round and admission fees apply. Bridal Cave remains at a consistent temperature of 60 F (16 C) year-round bring an extra layer of clothing in summer to stay warm.

About the Business

Lake of the Ozarks' #1 Year Round AttractionBridal Cave remains a constant 60° inside, so it's a great activity, no matter what the weather!Guided tours leave every few minutes and last approximately one hour. Tours are conducted over concrete pathways through the Cave's refreshing 60 degree environment. Park interpreters will lead you and your family through room after room of incredible mineral deposits. Giant columns, delicate soda straws and massive draperies abound throughout the cave. Millions of years of struggle between water and rock have created this cavern with more onyx formations than any other known cave or cavern. In fact thousands of school children each year explore Bridal Cave as part of their educational program. A tour through Bridal Cave is a family adventure you will never forget. …

This is the first cave that I've ever been to. We were in the Ozarks and wanted to find something to do . We had an amazing time. We did take the tour so they gave us lots of information. It's funny because there are some tight places and there's places that you have to duck so you don't hit your head so it's good for a short petite person. My husband struggled a bit because he's tall lol. But we had so much fun. You have to check out their gift shop so many stones for so many reasons Crystal gem salt, lamps, jewelry everything you can think of that had to do with rocks. If you are a spiritual person, this place will have meaning for you. I just felt at peace and looking at all the gemstones and their meanings just wow. You do have to be careful because there are some slippery spots because water drips from the top. Definitely recommend flip-flops or gym shoes that can get wet. The reason that it's called bridal Cave. They had weddings there, and I believe they still do.

Missouri has many caves and we only wanted to see 2-3 so we read many reviews and they served us well. This cave was probably the best we have ever seen. Hattie did a great job in the tour ...both with the information and warning us of any safety issues. There are some areas you have to duck down and some tight areas. But we had no trouble. Gift shop was smallish but had some nice rocks. The tour takes approximately 55 minutes. Highly recommend this tour. My only complaints are i was surprised they don't give discounts to veterans and why print out pictures when many dont want to purchase. Another nearby cave gives the picture as a gift.

We came here in July- sorry for the late review, but I wanted to make it a point to let everyone know how amazing this spot is. We arrived mid morning and was able to book a tour within an hour of arriving. There were seven of us and there was no problem accommodating. They have a wonderful gift shop to browse while waiting. They have the coolest crystals, gems, salt lamps, jewelry, everything. They definitely got a bit of my money. The caves are incredible. The natural formations and the history is just amazing. The tour groups probably have about 30 people in each, and things can get a little tight, but it works. I wore flipflops, but if you tend to be unsteady on your feet, you may want shoes cause there are some slippery spots. Also, if you are afraid of right spaces, keep in mind that there are some tight spaces. Our tour guide was a young guy- maybe even a kid. He knew some history and cracked a few jokes, but the best part was admiring how beautiful everything was.

This tour was Cave-tastic! The views were absolutely beautiful. There definitely were some points where it got as low was four feet and some tight squeezes that you cannot get through if you're over 300 pounds.

We had a great time on our Bridal Cave tour. Beautiful caves, interesting information shared by our guide--we had a great time. Not suitable for those with accessibility needs. Part of the tour requires an adult to walk bent over on uneven ground. As long as those things aren't an issue, this is a worthwhile stop! Cute gift shop with nice folks!

This was my first time and my wife's first time to the Ozarks. We noticed the sign for it on the way down and it sounded interesting so we bought tickets. The cave was amazing! Our guide was Evan, and he had a lot of good information on the cave. It was truly an experience to remember! The only weird thing is that my wife and I have been extremely sleepy at night since visiting. Lol. Is this a side effect of the cave or the Ozarks? Did we bring back some sleepy spirits with us? Ha! Great time though.

Nov 21, 2023

We're thrilled to know that you and your wife enjoyed your inaugural visit to the Ozarks with us, Travis! Evan would be glad to hear that you appreciated his insightful guidance. Regarding the sleepiness, it might be the cave's tranquillity lingering on. It's great that you had a wonderful time, and we look forward to welcoming you back for another adventure. Shawn Thompson, general manager

The tour was awesome! We had Gunnar (sorry if the spelling is wrong) as our guide! He did a great job handling the huge group we had! At one point, he even turned off all the lights in the cave, after asking everyone's permission, to show us the true experience that the cave explorers would have had! The tour started out with family photos as well as a cool memento of the experience Such a cool experience for all ages! Highly recommend!

Visiting a cave, I can't help but wonder what the first explorers felt when they discovered it. Did they realize how big it was? Did they appreciate the unique beauty? Bridal Cave is an active cave. Water drops everywhere are making those cool straws, stalagmites, and stalactites. You can experience science in person. I have visited caves with colorful light shows, but none are as packed with formations as this cave. The grounds outside the cave are beautiful too. If you're willing to spend the money for the tour, it's a fun experience. It is a full one hour of walking/standing, so if this is a challenge, I wouldn't recommend it. There are no places to sit. The walkway can be slippery, so closed toe shoes with rubber soles are best, and you might want a long sleeved shirt if you chill. There are some narrow pathways, so larger individuals (even very well endowed ones) may have to squish, and some may not fit through one space. Every staff member we met was very professional and polite. We were glad we went.

From the mining to the cave tour we had a 5 star experience. The lady who runs the gift shop with the tickets and mining and rocks. So nice. Helped me get the kids set up. Both ladies working that day were beyond helpful and went above and beyond to entertain my children while we waited for our tour. The mining is so fun with lots of rocks for the kiddos. They had fish food out to feed the fish. Once we made it to our tour, the gentlemen that took us through was beyond informative and entertaining. He really knows how to give a tour. He answered questions, interacted with the kids and did a great job. I would recommend this place to anyone passing though. Thanks to all!

Explore Bridal Cave at Lake of the Ozarks

Sep 27, 2019

Bridal Cave Lake of the Ozarks

No one needs an excuse to visit central Missouri’s stunning Lake of the Ozarks. The huge, 92 mile-long reservoir was created by impounding the Osage River. Activities include boating, fishing, water skiing, jet-skiing, and other forms of recreating. The lake’s 1,150 miles of shoreline offers golfing, shopping, dining, state parks, and attractions like Bridal Cave.

The Cave Legend

Bridal Cave gets its name from an old Osage legend.

A maiden from one local tribe married a brave from another in a room in the cave that is filled with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. Though quite probably apocryphal, the name stuck and the legend has lived on since at least the early 1800’s.

Not only that but the cave can still be reserved for weddings. In fact, over 3,000 couples have exchanged vows in the cave!

Guided tours of the cave follow easy to navigate concrete pathways from room to room. Your guide will point out formations of interest as well as relate the history and legends of the cave.

The cave remains a constant 60° and filled with incredible mineral deposits. You’ll see giant columns of stone, delicate soda straw formations, massive draperies of limestone, and crystal clear Mystery Lake. All formed by water percolating down from the surface above. As it drips and flows, the water wears away some minerals and leaves deposits from others behind. The process takes millions of years, leaving behind treasures your eyes will never forget.

bridal cave tours

Lantern Tours will take you back to a time when caves were explored with hand held lanterns. Imagine the excitement and mystery as you plunge into the inky black with only your lanterns lighting the way! This tour also includes a souvenir LED lantern that you get to keep. Space is limited and Lantern Tours are only offered seasonally. Learn more at the  cave website .

Thunder Mountain Park

Done touring the caverns? Visit Thunder Mountain Park! Thunder Mountain offers a lakeside gift shop, decks, nature trails, picnic areas, a public boat dock, observation tower, and snacks.

The park also includes Thunder Mountain Mining Company, a unique shop specializing in rocks, minerals, gemstones, gifts and tools for rock hounds. You can also pan for semi precious minerals to take home. Loads of fun.
