England's Rosie Davies hit a six-under par opening round of 66 to share the lead of the Investec South African Women's Open in Cape Town.

After a bogey at the first, Davies recovered with three successive birdies.

Despite dropping a shot again on the seventh, the 34-year-old picked up another five strokes on the back nine to take the clubhouse lead alongside Switzerland's Elena Moosmann.

"It was nice and calm on the front nine, so I thought to myself if I can get a couple, whilst everybody is going to have to battle the wind in the afternoon, that will give me a little bit of an advantage.

"I rolled in the putts nicely, it was good. The golf course is stunning. It's probably in the best condition that we play on in on the tour. The greens are perfect, the views. South Africa is incredible. We love coming here."

Kirstenbosch

Kirstenbosch is South Africa’s world-famous national botanical garden, set against the backdrop of Table Mountain and Devil’s Peak, and home to more than 22 000 indigenous plants, was established in 1913 to protect the immense floral wealth of the Cape. Located on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, botanical wonderland is magnificent in any season. Paved paths make walking around a pleasure, and plaques and signboards provide information on the trees and plants. There is a free daily walking tour. The glass-topped conservatory is home to numerous plants – including an enormous baobab tree – from different South African habitats.  

Robben Island

We are back home in UK now, had a great time in SA and everything went well with our golf in the Garden Route, although we managed to change our golf days at Pinnacle Point and George due to ‘torrential downpours’………..much needed I know but it did rain for 5 of the 6 days we were there……though not when we played golf,so all was well.

We will certainly consider using your company again when visiting SA although we might choose different accommodation. The Golf Lodge and Town Lodge were very nice but didn’t quite meet our needs…..but it was all very good value.

Ronald Rugumayo: Ugandan pro golfer secures Sunshine Tour card

Ronald Rugumayo’s hunt for a Sunshine Tour Card that started last September at the VOG Western Cape Tournament played at the Devonvale Golf and Wine Estate in Cape Town, has come to fruition.

Rugumayo who is based in South Africa became the first Ugandan to secure the Sunshine Tour Card during the last round of the Qualifying School tournament played at the Heron Banks Golf & River Resort in Johannesburg.

“Achieving a Sunshine Tour card in just my second season is a dream come true. It wouldn't have been possible without the encouragement, guidance, and belief of so many people,” Rugumayo said in Instagram post.

Earlier this year, Rugumayo also became the first Uganda to make the cut in a European Tour event during the DP Tour Magical Kenya Open.

“To my family, manager, friends, coaches, Caddy and fans - your unwavering support and encouragement mean the world to me. Your words of wisdom and unrelenting belief in my abilities have fuelled my passion and desire to succeed.

“I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by each of you. This achievement is not just mine, but ours, and I can't wait to see what the future holds.”

Impressive rounds of 67, 73, 68 and 71 earned Rugumayo full membership of the Sunshine Tour and will now on play in big-money tournaments starting with the Zimbabwe Open scheduled for May 9-12.

Marvin Kibirige and Deus Willy Kitata are the other Ugandans who were also in South Africa trying to secure the card through other qualifying events.
