Shopping Then of course there's the shopping. For that touch of luxury why not treat yourself to a visit to Knightsbridge. Here the famous Harrods and Harvey Nichols await you with the finest goods, clothing and food from around the world. If you prefer interesting and individual market stalls then you're spoilt for choice in London - choose from the bohemian and atmospheric Camden Lock, or the fabulous food of Borough Market.
Art and Culture - If you enjoy your art and culture then London really is a paradise. You can visit one of the many museums; the Imperial War Museum and The Science Museum are particularly impressive. You can also take advantage of London theatre and see a great show in the West End.
Visiting London with children - Are you planning to enjoy a family coach trip? Make sure to visit The Natural History Museum, which has a reputation for having innovative exhibitions, including the dinosaur figures and the human body section. Activity packs are available too to make the visit even more exciting. London Zoo might be also a great idea for a family day out with a high number of interesting animals from all around the planet.
Famous Buildings – London is home to a whole host of iconic buildings with fascinating stories just waiting to be discovered including Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of The Queen. Follow in the footsteps of Royalty and explore the lavish State Rooms, where ceremonial occasions and official entertaining takes place, and admire the magnificent treasures from the Royal Collection. Head to the Houses of Parliament to delve into a thousand years of history as you wander through the Lords Chamber, the Commons, The Queen’s Robing Room, Westminster Hall and the Royal Gallery. While many people have seen these famous landmarks from the outside, take the chance to explore them from a different perspective – inside!
London Boroughs – From Greenwich to Kensington and Chelsea, there are plenty of trendy London boroughs to explore, all with their own distinctive character. Perhaps the most attractive is Richmond upon Thames, a favoured retreat for Royalty throughout the centuries. Picturesque picnic spots by the river, beautiful Royal Parks, intriguing historic houses and quirky galleries combine to create a real jewel in London’s crown here.

Theatre dress code Theatregoers these days don't dress in black tie or ball-gowns so you can leave those at home. However 'being comfy' is the order of the day so smart but casual dress will be fine.
Etiquette You will be requested to turn off your mobile before the show starts. Also, cameras are prohibited. Don't spoil the enjoyment of others and refrain from talking when you shouldn't be.
When does the show start? Matinee performances start at around 2pm. Evening performances around 7-7.45pm. You'll need to be in your seat approx. 15-30 minutes prior to the show starting otherwise you’ll be let in at a convenient point in the show.
The Interval Should you wish to have a drink or snacks during the interval, order these before the show starts as it will prevent you having to queue.
Is it wheelchair friendly? Please note that the majority of theatres are very old and therefore do not necessarily cater for wheelchairs. It would be wise to enquire about facilities before you decide to book your tickets.
I'd like tickets for a Sunday or Bank Holiday performance? Nearly all West End theatres are only open Mon-Sat. A few now offer Sunday shows but they are an exception. Most theatres only close on Christmas Day.
What's the difference between The Stalls and Dress Circle? The Stalls are located on the ground floor. Dress Circle is the floor above The Stalls. Upper Circle (Grand or Royal) is the next one up. The Balcony is the circle above the Upper Circle.
Where are the best views? Some of the best views are from the middle of The Stalls. Be far enough back so you are not straining your neck. Good views can also be from Dress and Upper Circle. You’ll need binoculars for The Balcony.
What else can you do in London? Shop till you drop in Oxford Street, enjoy the entertainment in Covent Garden, have a wonderful meal in Leicester Square, cruise along The Thames or take a flight on the London Eye.
Where to eat before the show? There are usually a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants located within the vicinity of the theatre. If you mention to your waiter/waitress that you have theatre tickets, they will turn your meal around quickly for you.

And finally, we’ll wrap up our day of all things Will with pints and pub grub at a cozy inn. After all, we need to refuel after soaking up all this amazing culture!

10. Hastings and St. Leonards-on-Sea
Feel like breaking free from the London bubble for a day? Well, look no further than the delightful coastal towns of Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea. Just a quick jaunt southeast, these seaside charmers offer the perfect blend of history, scenery, and good old-fashioned character.
Rolling into Hastings, you’ll be greeted by narrow cobbled lanes, quirky antique havens, and oh-so-charming cafes. But don’t be fooled by the small town vibe – Hastings has epic history! Be sure to explore the striking Hastings Castle ruins and transport yourself back to the Norman Conquest era.
Next up is St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings’ artsy neighbor. Here, creativity and boho vibes flow through the streets. Funky boutiques, contemporary galleries, and an awesome beachfront promenade await. I’m talking colorful huts, cool sculptures, and plenty of character.
But the real charm of these towns lies in the people. Warm, welcoming locals who genuinely love their community. You’ll feel it in the buzzing atmosphere and see it in their smiling faces.

The best day trips from London depend on what you’re looking for, but some of the top picks include Brighton, Canterbury, Oxford and Cambridge. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you will want to visit the Harry Potter World .
The most popular destinations are within a few hours’ drive from London, but you can go on day trips to the Lake District, Liverpool, Edinburgh and even Paris, France.

London Underground on marathon day
The London Underground , London Overground and Docklands Light Railway are running extra services throughout marathon day and are recommended as the best way to get around to keep up with the race action.
Due to the nature of the day, expect services to be busy with crowds of spectators along the route.
Stops near the Marathon route are likely to be very busy, especially the Jubilee, Circle and District lines, and the DLR.

What roads will be closed for the London marathon 2024?
This handy map marks the overall route.
But the roads on it aren’t necessarily closed all day. Instead, their closing times are staggered as the runners make their way from Greenwich to central London, meaning that an afternoon browsing the chichi shops of Blackheath is far from off the cards. Read on for a full breakdown of road closures and times: Charlton Way, Greenwich: 4am to 1pm Shooters Hill Road: 4am to 1pm St John’s Park: 7am to 1pm Charlton Park Road: 7am to 1pm Old Dover Road: 7am to 1pm Little Heath: 7am to 1pm Charlton Park Lane: 7am to 1pm Artillery Place: 7am to 1pm John Wilson Street: 7am to 1pm Woolwich Church Street: 7am to 2pm Woolwich Road: 7am to 2pm Trafalgar Road: 7am to 3pm Creek Road: 7am to 3pm Evelyn Street: 8am to 4pm Surrey Quays Road: 8am to 4pm Salter Road: 8am to 4pm Brunel Road: 8am to 4pm Jamaica Road: 8am to 4pm Tower Bridge: 8am to 7pm The Highway (south side): 8am to 7pm Narrow Street: 8am to 7pm Westferry Road: 8am to 7pm East Ferry Road: 8am to 7pm Marsh Wall: 8am to 7pm North Colonnade: 8am to 7pm Poplar High Street: 8am to 7pm Commercial Road: 8am to 7pm The Highway (north side): 8am to 7pm Byward Street: 7.30am to 8.30pm Upper Thames Street: 7.30am to 8.30pm Victoria Embankment: 7.30am to 8.30pm Birdcage Walk (westbound): 6am on April 21 to May 18 Birdcage Walk (eastbound): 7.30am on April 22 to May 18
What bus changes will be happening?
Needless to say, there’ll be quite a bit of disruption for London buses too. Buses travelling on routes affected by the marathon will either be diverted, or will not run for that part of the journey. Visit tfl.gov.uk/bus/status for full info.
What about the Tube, London Underground and the DLR?
If you want to get somewhere fast on Sunday, these services are your best bet. The tube, DLR and overground will all be running extra services to cope with the increased demand. But do bear in mind that services with stops near the Marathon route are likely to be busy: especially the Jubilee, Circle and District lines, and the DLR.

Bloody horse on the loose in london, wild ride of chaos & injuries, runaway horses on the loose in london ... injuries, damage & chaos.
Escaped military horses wreaked havoc through the London streets during morning rush hour ... causing injuries and leaving a bloody trail of destruction in their wake.
The pics are quite the wild sight ... 5 horses from the Life Guards, part of the prestigious Household Cavalry, tore through the streets Wednesday morning, and one white horse even seemed to be drenched in blood -- whether its own or someone else's is unclear.
The British army confirmed in a statement the frenzied gallop started when the horses were spooked during an extended exercise.
🚨 NEW: Runaway horses are currently on the loose in Central London One horse is covered in blood after colliding with a bus Police are working with the Army to locate them pic.twitter.com/yZ10SeiFV3 — Politics UK (@PolitlcsUK) April 24, 2024 @PolitlcsUK
Apparently, some concrete fell off a conveyor belt on a construction site, and when it hit the ground it touched off a chain reaction of chaos.
5 out of 7 horses bolted, and 4 soldiers were unseated from their horses ... leaving 3 of them injured during the chaotic escape. They're currently being evaluated in the hospital, but their injuries aren't life-threatening.
As for the horses, they covered about 6 miles across London in a staggering 2 hours ... with reports emerging of them crashing into vehicles and knocking someone down on the street.
Just before 10 AM UK local time, London police tweeted officers had contained 2 of the horses. Half an hour later, Westminster police confirmed they found the rest.
The army transported the horses to veterinary care.
