Let’s Take a Peek Inside Tom Cruise’s Property Portfolio

At long last, “Top Gun: Maverick” is set to land in theaters at the end of May. A-lister Tom Cruise will step back into the cockpit and reprise his role as test pilot Maverick.

Now 59, the seemingly ageless performer has been box-office gold since the 1980s. His hits include “Cocktail,” “Jerry McGuire,” and “A Few Good Men.” The father of three also starred in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, the latest of which is the upcoming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.”

With the superstar set to take off on the big screen, we thought we’d take a spin through the actor’s real estate.

Along with starring in blockbusters over the decades, the “Mission: Impossible” star has been busy when it comes to pricey real estate. In many cases, the paparazzi-averse Cruise tends to buy up multiple lots in extremely private locales.

So don your aviators, and let’s head into the “property zone.”

Clearwater condos

The star’s latest “mission”: a move to a giant spread in Clearwater, FL . He dropped $9,580,500 on a 20,826-square-foot, two-level penthouse in 2017. It’s located in the Skyview tower , which was reportedly altered to accommodate Cruise, according to the Tampa Bay Times .

The actor’s lavish living quarters include four bedrooms, a gym, game room, home theater, roof deck with an infinity pool, hot tub, gardens, and a bar, according to the Times.

The penthouse boasts a private garage with a car elevator on the second floor. That level also apparently includes a flight simulator. (Perhaps Cruise could get in some practice for his “Top Gun” role?) There’s also office space and a sports storage area.

Cruise paid an additional $1,475,000 for three more condos in the Clearwater high-rise, perhaps for staff or relatives.

The building, developed by fellow Scientologist Moises Agami , is located just blocks from the Church of Scientology headquarters. Cruise has been a member of the church since 1986.

Terrific in Telluride

More recently, the “Risky Business” actor took care of a piece of business in the Rocky Mountain region. He sold his longtime Telluride, CO, ranch for a whopping $39.5 million.

Cruise had held on to the 320-acre mountain retreat for decades, before trying to quietly sell it for $59 million in 2014. It was relisted in March 2021 for $39.5 million and quickly sold.

Cruise spent years amassing the land, then built a 10,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home in 1994.

The picturesque home was the setting for a photo shoot with Vanity Fair magazine featuring his daughter Suri  with his then-wife Katie Holmes . Oprah Winfrey also interviewed Cruise at the home in 2008.

The main house includes a chef’s kitchen, fitness center, rec room, den, office suite, two fireplaces, and multiple terraces. There’s also a three-bedroom guest lodge.

Though secluded, the retreat is just minutes to Telluride and a two-hour private jet flight from L.A.

Lavish in Los Angeles

Before decamping to the Sunshine State, the busy actor let go of his holdings in La-La land.

In 2016, Cruise sold the Beverly Hills compound he had shared with  Holmes . The 1.2-acre spread changed hands for a startling $38 million. He had paid $30.5 million in 2007.

The compound included a 10,000-square-foot mansion with seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and a pair of guesthouses.

That sale came almost a year after he sold his Hollywood Hills compound to  Eva Longoria for $11.4 million.

Initially listed for $13 million, that property featured two adjoining houses built in 2005 on an ultraprivate 2.75-acre lot. The compound consists of a three-bedroom French villa, a four-bedroom guesthouse, two standalone studios, and a quaint stone cottage.

Beverly Hills rental home with Holmes

Cruise and Holmes leased a mansion in the 90210 for $55,000 a month from 2001 through 2008.

Last offered for lease for $100,000 a month in 2016, the three-acre estate includes a nine-bedroom main house, a guesthouse, a pool with a spa, and a tennis court.

Crash pad in New York City

Cruise sold his longtime East Village loft in the American Felt Building for $3 million in 2013. He had picked up the pied-à-terre in 1984, following his starring role in “Risky Business.”

The two-bedroom, 2,200-square-foot unit is said to contain a state-of-the-art gym. It’s located on the 10th floor of the 12-floor building.

Cruise reportedly shared the condo with all three of his ex-wives, including Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman . The building housed other notable residents, including author Bret Easton Ellis and the Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti , the Real Deal reported at the time of the sale. Cruise’s loft was sold in an off-market deal.

With a  net worth of $600 million , Tom Cruise and the word "movie star" are practically synonymous. Tom Cruise's penthouse is cool — even for Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise has called Florida his home base since 2018. Per Architectural Digest , Cruise fetched a pretty $55 million when he sold his Los Angeles and New York properties in 2016, moving into a multimillion-dollar penthouse in Clearwater, Florida. Planned by a wealthy Scientologist — Cruise is controversially tied to the religion — the 10-story SkyView condominium is one block from the Church of Scientology, per People . With Cruise reportedly close friends with church leader David Miscavige, a source told the outlet that the movie star was "very relaxed when he's here." 

In addition to occupying the entire top two floors, according to AD, Cruise's pad packs amenities like a roof deck, a nearly 40-foot pool, a bar, and more.What sets the pad apart from other celebrity dig, however, is the passageway that leads to a private, smaller condo on the second floor (which houses a flight simulator, for one). Additionally, there is a nine-car garage and private car elevator (what a cool phrase to say). Now that's  on par with expectations for the "Mission Impossible" star.

Tom Cruise sold his vacation home in Colorado for millions

Although Clearwater, Florida, might be Tom Cruise's personal headquarters, he also owns property in West Sussex, England — for one. Per The Sun , the estate was purchased by Cruise in 2006 for a reported $4.2 million. Bearing the regal title of "Rede Place," the property is located in Dormans Park, East Grinstead, which is reportedly close to the British headquarters of the Church of Scientology. Boasting 14 acres of land and an 11,331-square-foot interior, per insider , the manor was constructed in 2003, meaning Cruise would likely be one of its very first owners.

Cruise parted ways with his longtime 320-acre Telluride, Colo. ranch, which was reportedly a vacation refuge frequented by Cruise with ex-wife Katie Holmes and his children. Putting the ranch on sale for $39.5 million in March, per Forbes , the home sold without a hitch two months later for the asking price . Ardent followers of Cruise's career might remember this was the shooting location for a follow-up to his infamous 2005 interview with Oprah Winfrey , as noted by  Town & Country . However, Cruise's Telluride ranch's main draw, aside from being a ski haven known for its celebrity denizens, is the cozy seclusion it provides for the uber-famous. No wonder it sold so fast! 

Tom Cruise makes surprise appearance at Toronto 'Mission Impossible' screening

A week after sharing his displeasure with Toronto’s traffic, Tom Cruise has returned to the city to surprise fans at a screening of “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One.”

Just before a daytime screening of the film at the Cineplex Scotiabank Theatre at Richmond and John streets, Cruise walked into the cinema alongside director Christopher McQuarrie to address the moviegoers.

“We dream of these moments to make these films for you,” the actor said in a short speech before the film. “And for you to see it in this kind of format. It’s such an honour to entertain you, and I’m just so happy to see everyone here.”

Earlier in the press tour for the film, Cruise spoke with ETalk in Toronto, lamenting the city’s traffic and joking about its effect on his work as an actor.

“You know what, I have done that challenge and I have been in that traffic. I’ve made movies in Toronto, I’ve visited Toronto, I have friends in Toronto,” Cruise said, laughing.

Though it’s been some time since Cruise was last in the city shooting a movie – his 1988 rom-com “Cocktail” was largely filmed in Toronto – Toronto’s grid-lock has left a lasting impression.

“What’s up with the traffic in Toronto? Have they figured this out?” Cruise added.

On her first day in office, mayor elect Olivia Chow responded to Cruise, standing amidst a sea of cyclists who accompanied her to City Hall. She suggested more Torontonians should take different types of transportation to mitigate traffic in the city.

“I have a message for Tom Cruise,” she said on Wednesday morning. “He should look at what we have here – we don’t have a traffic problem if we have more people taking different forms of transportation, whether it’s cycling, public transit or driving. Let’s all work together, safely sharing the road.”

It seems like even Hollywood celebrities have grown frustrated with the standstill traffic in Toronto . 

In promotion of his upcoming summer blockbuster, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One , acclaimed actor Tom Cruise sat down with ETalk to discuss his high-stakes stunts in the movie, as well as his previous experiences filming in Toronto. 

The highly-anticipated flick, which is set to release on July 12, is the sequel to Mission: Impossible — Fallout and the seventh installment in the Mission: Impossible film series. 

After discussing some of the stunts in the movie, ETalk's Sonia Mangat proposed an "impossible mission" for the 61-year-old actor. 

"I say you sneak in a stunt in Part Two and you come to Toronto and you take on the traffic in Toronto two hours, without road rage," Mangat said. 

Cruise noted that he was unfortunately all too familiar with the city's constant congestion . 

"You know what, I have done that challenge, and I've been in that traffic," Cruise laughed. "I've made movies in Toronto, and I've visited Toronto, and I have friends in Toronto. What's up with the traffic in Toronto? Have they figured this out?" 

According to the 2022 Global Traffic Scorecard by data and analytics company, Inrix , Toronto ranked seventh in a global list for the highest traffic delay times by city.

The report found that Toronto had lost a staggering 118 hours in traffic, just behind other densely-populated metropolitan centres like London, Chicago, Paris, Boston, and New York City.

Tom Cruise is one of the world’s most famous personalities and is known for his iconic roles. With a reported net worth of $600 million, the Hollywood actor and Scientologist is also one of the richest stars in the world. Over the years, Tom Cruise has built up a splendid real estate portfolio. From Beverly Hills to a country house in the UK , in this article, we look into his impressive portfolio, which includes Tom Cruise houses that he once owned and sold subsequently. Read on to know more. 

1. Hollywood Hills Mansion

Constructed in 2004, this property, pervaded by a retro charm, was inspired by the country estates found in Tuscany, Italy. Located along Mulholland Drive, this mansion lies in the core of a splendid 2.5-acre estate overlooking the Sunset Strip and Hollywood Hills. The entire estate was redesigned, likely by Tom Cruise, in 2006 and features wide-plank wood floors and Venetian plaster walls. The property boasts three en suite bedrooms and comes with brightly illumined living spaces with vaulted ceilings and European-styled decor. There seem to be other interesting elements, including an attractive chef’s kitchen, alfresco dining terraces, and a three-acre garden with a lagoon-style pool. Moreover, the extensive use of glass windows permits a sweeping 180- degree view across Los Angeles. This property also has a self-contained, four-bedroom guesthouse. This former property of Tom Cruise was priced at a hefty $13 million.

2. Beverly Hills Mansion

Constructed in 1937, Tom Cruise owned this mansion for almost a decade. The estate boasts seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Moreover, it offers a sprawling 10,286 square feet of luxurious living space and also comes with it a backyard and a large swimming pool. It also features a tennis court, a children’s playground , and guesthouses. The secluded nature of the mansion offers much privacy away from the limelight. The Hollywood star sold his Beverly Hills mansion for USD 40 million. This was the second home in Los Angeles that he sold in less than a year after he sold his Hollywood Hills estate for USD 11.4 million. Tom Cruise bought the house for USD 32.5 million in 2007 and originally put the house on the market for USD 45 million. 

3. Tom Cruise’s Secluded Ranch, Colorado  

Tom Cruise’s vacation home in Colorado hit the market for $39.5 million in March 2021. The place brags a perfect hiking spot and is fully covered by rolling mountains all around. It has splendid mountain views that are enjoyed from the balcony and the patios of the property. Stretching across a massive 320 acres, Tom cruise bought this Colorado plot in the early 1990s. This 10,000 square feet property boasts vaulted ceilings, floor-to-ceiling fireplaces, and magnificent alpine views. The interiors seamlessly reflect neutral colour tones and have cedar timbers along with native stones. The mansion possesses a large-sized dining space that includes the dining area of both the main and guest house. Other amenities in the property include a fitness center, a state-of-the-art security system, a snowmelt system, a wet bar, and underfloor heating. Moreover, there is a separate three-bedroom lodge in addition to the main residence.

4. Tom Cruise’s English Estate, West Sussex, UK

Called Rede place, Tom Cruise spent $4.2 million on this magnificent country estate in West Sussex. Sprawling over 14 acres of land, the country mansion has an interior area of 11,331-square feet. The property was built in 2003 which likely makes Tom Cruise one of its first owners. Despite its age, what we see here in this property reflects fascinating architectural features. It has a total of eight bedrooms and five bathrooms, divided between the main house and a separate, self-contained guest pavilion. The interior of the mansion is bright and dramatic and seamlessly blends modern state-of-the-art elements and traditional architectural elements. 

The basement level consists of a movie theatre , games room, and dance studio with a sprung floor. There are many living rooms and a light-filled kitchen that opens into a garden. A grand master suite with a private sitting room can be found on the top floor. The mansion lies well protected behind electric security gates and is equipped with CCTV. Other features include manicured gardens, a swimming pool, hot tub, and tennis court.  

5. Tom Cruise’s Clearwater Penthouse, Florida

The penthouse boasts unparalleled views across the city and also possesses a roof deck, a 39-foot infinity pool, solarium, hot tub, and bar. The penthouse features a passageway leading to a secret smaller condo on the second floor that contains a gym, office, and a flight simulator. What is special here is that the penthouse comes with a nine-car parking space and a private car elevator.

'What's up with the traffic in Toronto?': Tom Cruise asks in recent interview, Chow responds

Ahead of the release of his latest summer blockbuster, Tom Cruise was asked if he would accept what some Toronto residents might consider a truly impossible mission: Can you keep a cool head in the city’s traffic?

ETalk’s Sonia Mangat sat down with the action movie star in Rome before “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” hits theatres next week.

“I say, you sneak in a stunt in Part Two and you come to Toronto. And you take on the traffic in Toronto for two hours. Without road rage,” Mangat challenged Cruise in an exclusive interview.

Not one to refuse a mission, Cruise accepted, and added he has driven in Toronto in the past and shares the frustrations with motorists in the city.

“You know what, I have done that challenge and I have been in that traffic. I’ve made movies in Toronto, I’ve visited Toronto, I have friends in Toronto,” Cruise said with a laugh.

Though it’s been some time since Cruise was last in the city shooting a movie – his 1988 rom-com ‘Cocktail” was largely filmed in Toronto – Toronto’s grid-lock has obviously left a lasting impression.

“What’s up with the traffic in Toronto? Have they figured this out?” Cruise added.

Earlier this year, Toronto made headlines for being among the worst cities in the world for congestion.

In a report published in January, traffic analytics company INRIX said commuters in the city lost an average 118 hours on Greater Toronto Area roads and highways to congestion in 2022.

At peak traffic times that year, the report said, the average speed for drivers in the GTA was a sluggish 20 km/h.

In North America, Toronto was only outdone by Chicago and Boston, where on-peak traffic times saw drivers in those cities lose 155 hours and 134 hours to congestion in 2022, respectively.

The traffic in Toronto has likely not gotten much better in the months since that report was released.

On May 1, a busy section of Queen Street from Bay Street to Yonge Street, was closed for an expected four-and-a-half years as construction on the Ontario Line gets underway.

As well, on Tuesday, the city began construction in the east end on Broadview Avenue where crews are working to replace tracks and resurface roads between Gerrard Street and Danforth Avenue. That project is expected to last five months.

'TRAFFIC IS A PROBLEM': CHOW AGREES WITH CRUISE

In an unrelated news conference Thursday, mayor-elect Olivia Chow responded to Cruise’s comments.

“Well, you know what Tom Cruise says is always right, right?” she joked.

Chow seemed to agree with the movie star and said improved transit could help clear the congestion and pointed to the city’s lack of reliable service as part of the issue.

“Traffic is a problem. [Cruise’s comment] echoes the report we saw from the Board of Trade yesterday to say that our public transit system could be so much better if it was more reliable,” Chow said.

That report showed that Toronto had the least reliable transit service in 2022 compared to other municipalities in the region. Of the transit options in the GTA, Toronto had the lowest score for reliability with only 58 per cent of trips being on time.

Chow added that better coordination on city construction projects would also go a long way in freeing up laneways and advocated for the increased use of alternative modes of transportation like walking and cycling.

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, better known as Tom Cruise , is one of the most famous actors in Hollywood. This success continued when Tom Cruise received more Academy Award nominations, this time for his role in Born on the Fourth of July. He also starred in Losin' It with Shelly Long and Top Gun with Nicole Kidman. Tom Cruise won't play action hero Jack Reacher when the franchise restarts on television, because the star is too short. The film will see Tom Cruise reprise one of his most famous roles, Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, 34 years after he first put on the costume of a United States Navy pilot. Tom Cruise has denied hilarious rumors that he was wearing a “fake ass” during his film Valkyrie several years ago, after a memorable screenshot went viral earlier this year.

Tom Cruise fed up with T.O. traffic: 'What's up with the traffic in Toronto?' Back to video

The actor is in the midst of a worldwide tour in support of his latest outing as world-saving IMF agent Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One and during an interview with eTalk at the film’s premiere in Rome, Cruise was wondering why the city has been unable to solve its decades-long gridlock problems.

“I say, you sneak in a stunt in Part Two and you come to Toronto. And you take on the traffic in Toronto for two hours. Without road rage,” Sonia Mangat challenged Cruise in an exclusive interview.

“You know what, I have done that challenge, and I have been in that traffic. I’ve made movies in Toronto, I’ve visited Toronto, I have friends in Toronto,” Cruise replied laughing.

“What’s up with the traffic in Toronto? Have they figured this out?” Cruise added.

“No,” Mangat said. “It gets even worse.”

“Wow,” Cruise responded. He then said he’d consider riding a motorbike to beat the bumper-to-bumper chaos.

The city’s mayor-elect, Olivia Chow, heard about Cruise’s comments and responded at a press briefing on Thursday.

Earlier this year, Toronto was ranked one of the worst cities on the planet when it comes to traffic with with delay times of 118 hours for commuters.

Toronto’s delays have increased 59% since 2021.

According to a study released in April, a  journey across T.O. took 44.92 minutes in 2022, which was blamed on the fact “the city’s road system was built for the 1960s.”

The city also has one of the least reliable transit systems compared to others in the GTA, according to newly released transit report cards from the Toronto Region Board of Trade.

In May, a well-travelled stretch of Queen Street was closed from Bay Street to Yonge Street as construction began on the Ontario Line transit addition, making it even harder to get across the city.

Cruise filmed 1988’s Cocktail in Hogtown and has attended the Toronto International Film Festival. He has also touched down in T.O. to promote various films, including Edge of Tomorrow and Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation .

Cruise, who during an interview with ETalk's Sonia Mangat, was given his own personal "impossible mission" — to spend two hours in Toronto traffic without resorting to road rage.

"You know what, I have done that challenge and I've been in that traffic," Cruise answered. "I've made movies in Toronto, and I've visited Toronto, and I have friends in Toronto. What's up with the traffic in Toronto? Have they figured this out?" the 61-year-old actor asked.

During an unrelated news conference on Thursday, Toronto mayor-elect Olivia Chow voiced her agreement with Cruise and touched on how critical improving public transit in the city is to aid in clearing congestion off the city's roads.

“Well, you know what Tom Cruise says is always right, right?” Chow said jokingly.

Just how bad does Toronto's traffic have to be for even Tom Cruise to call it out?

A report released in January by traffic analytics company INRIX , places the megapolis as one of the worst cities for traffic congestion globally, with only Boston and Chicago topping out in North America.

The report also revealed that the average commuter lost an average of 118 hours on Greater Toronto Area roads and highways to congestion during 2022.

So next time you find yourself bumper-to-bumper on a Toronto roadway, console yourself with the fact that even Tom Cruise has felt that same agony.

In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, the Citizen is rolling out one fact each day for 150 days until July 1, highlighting the odd, the fascinating and the important bits of Ottawa history you might not know about.

Actor Tom Cruise can trace his acting roots to Ottawa. He lived in Beacon Hill for a few years as a youngster, attending Robert Hopkins Public School, where he got involved in drama for the first time. A report in Hello Magazine in 2015 quoted the star of action franchises such as Mission Impossible, saying he had always been a risk-taker.

“I remember in Ottawa I used to do flips off the roof,” Cruise said. “That was the first time I broke my leg! I landed right on the sidewalk.”

Tom Cruise isn't slowing down anytime soon. The 56-year-old star of Mission: Impossible 6 — Fallout star continues to push himself to the limits by performing the most daring stunts in his films. In Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Tom Cruise scaled Dubai's Burj Khalifa, while in Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation, he held on for dear life on the side of a plane as it took off. But for his latest mission as senior field operations agent for the Impossible Mission Force (IMF), Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise has solidified his high-octane action star credentials by embarking on one of the biggest stunts of his career — jumping out of a plane 25,000 feet in the air while plummeting to the ground at 200 miles per hour. To get the scene right, Tom Cruise performed the stunt an awe-inspiring 106 times — that's some commitment to the role!

Tom Cruise: Real Estate Portfolio

When Cruise isn't performing death-defying stunts, he snaps up prime real estate. He has lived in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Telluride, Colorado, and owns a country home in the UK (not surprisingly, located near Britain's Scientology HQ), as well as properties in New York. The Jerry Maguire star recently purchased a two-storey penthouse in downtown Clearwater, Florida—close to the Scientology HQ. Tom Cruise, a devout follower of Scientology, has been effectively 'homeless' since he put his homes in California and New York on the market—earning GBP 41.5million ($55 million) in the process. However, it is believed that Cruise is living in a luxury accommodation within the Scientology Church's grounds in the coastal Florida town.

The actor's Florida penthouse is on top of a new development called The Skyview, which is being built by one of the world's richest Scientologists, Mexican property developer Moises Agami. The apartment—perched on the ninth and tenth floors—comes with a roof deck, a 39-foot infinity pool, solarium, hot tub, and bar. The penthouse also comes with a passageway leading to a secret smaller condo on the second floor, which features a flight simulator, office, and gym. Few Hollywood stars can boast as impressive and impactful a career as Tom Cruise . With a brand new Top Gun sequel on the way and work for the next Mission Impossible instalment well underway, the star's on screen career at the forefront of the action genre is far from over.

What you may be unaware of, however, is Tom's connection to Kent, and to one part of humble county in particular. The legendary actor is in fact rubbing shoulders with the people of Biggin Hill.

While the area is known for its key role during the Battle of Britain in the Second World War - this superstar resident might just put it back on the map. The 59-year-old recently bought a plush pad in the small district which is home to less than 10,000 people (according to the 2011 Census).

His property is believed to be situated in a prestigious gated community which extends over 140 acres of land. Biggin Hill Airport is also close by and serves private flights - handy for when the star jets across the world.

Cruise enjoyed plenty of time in Bromley in recent years while filming two back-to-back Mission: Impossible films — the seventh and eighth instalments of the franchise. Although it wasn't his first time in the area - the action film superstar is more than familiar with the South East.

Cruise previously owned a sprawling £3million mansion in East Grinstead in nearby Sussex . He sold the property in 2016 but there's something that has kept drawing him back to the county ever since.

Cruise is believed to have spent lockdown at Saint Hill Manor in the town, which is also the British headquarters of the Church of Scientology. He is understood to be an active member of the organisation and has formed a close relationship with Scientology leader.

According to an insider close to Cruise , the actor very much enjoys living in the rural south of England. The source said: “Tom has only recently moved to this new home, which feels like it’s practically in the countryside.

"He sees it as his rural bolt-hole, away from the hustle and bustle of London where he had been before.”

But while Cruise's glamorous life in Britain is well documented, his daughters very ordinary life in Croydon is much less known about. Isabella Kidman Cruise, 29, daughter of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, has been living in South London in recent years with her British husband Max Parker and their pet reptile, My London reports.

According to The Mirror, in 2020 Cruise's low-profile daughter Bella refused to live at her father's £342,000-a-month penthouse in London. Tom and Nicole's adopted daughter turned her back on the spotlight, preferring life in south London over Hollywood.

Cruise reportedly owns a place at the historic Corinthia Residences in London with four-bedrooms, an indoor pool and amazing views of the cityscape. Located just down the road from 10 Downing Street, it's in the heart of the city. Bella and her husband Max allegedly made the move to Croydon in October 2017 to be closer to Max's parents.

The couple had married two years earlier in 2015, a year after meeting through mutual friends. According to The Sun , neighbour, Emma, said of Bella: “I wouldn’t have known her if she’d come up and smacked me in the face. I don’t keep up with celebrity culture.

“They have a reptile of some kind — we can see the red light of the tank. That’s all anybody seems to know. She’s very mysterious. I suppose she’s decided to live out of the spotlight. I don’t know why she’s chosen Croydon, poor child!”

Tom and Nicole adopted Bella in 1992, and then three years later they adopted her biological younger brother, Connor Cruise.

Tom Cruise is one of the most recognisable faces in Hollywood. From his iconic role in Top Gun, to acting parts in Mission Impossible and Jack Reacher - the American actor is never far from the big screen.

While he is known across the globe, many people may not realise that the 59-year-old has strong links to East Grinstead . He just can't seem to stay away.

But why is the superstar actor so fascinated with the West Sussex town? We've done some digging into Tom Cruise's links to the county and this is what we found.

Tom Cruise's links to East Grinstead

Back in 2006, the American actor forked out around £3 million on an enormous house in East Grinstead, measuring 11,000 square feet. Since then, he's been pictured in the county on many occasions, and it is believed he even spent the first national lockdown in the West Sussex town.

Some may wonder why the film star chose to spend part of his life there, but it holds great significance for the famous Scientologist. Scientology's headquarters, Saint Hill, are located in East Grinstead - the religious movement followed by Cruise and numerous other A-list actors.

After selling his house in 2016, he returned to the town last summer. During the first national lockdown, the actor was believed to be staying in a wing of the headquarters.

Saint Hill had a multi-million pound renovation in 2016, which includes a new Michelin-starred chef and luxury accommodation. Cruise's former mansion continued to attract famous residents, with singer Peter Andre taking the property off his hands for around £5 million.

The six-bedroom property is more than eight times higher than the average house price in East Grinstead - but it features a cinema room as well as a gym, outdoor swimming pool and a tennis court.

Has Tom Cruise visited other parts of Sussex?

In July last year the producer was spotted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2021. He was seen enjoying the event and was pictured alongside the Duke of Richmond at the festival's final day.

This wasn't the first time he'd attended the racing event. He made an appearance in 2014 on Ladies' Day, where he was photographed with supermodel Edie Campbell and Theo Fennell.

However, Cruise wasn't able to stick around in Chichester for too long last year. He was spotted just hours later waving to fans at Wimbledon, London.

He watched Serbian Novak Djokovic win his sixth men's title against Italian Matteo Berrettini. His socialising didn't stop there, though, because he was later seen at Wembley sat beside David Beckham cheering on England in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

The star was seen celebrating Luke Shaw's goal in the first two minutes.

What does Tom Cruise think of England?

When approached at the last Jack Reacher premiere, he said that England "is a really great place to live". In 2020, sources told The Sunday Mirror that Cruise was looking into buying a home in Britain.

A source said: "Tom is active more than ever in the organisation. His role is getting bigger and bigger. He wants to move to the UK ­permanently and has been looking at properties around Saint Hill Manor so he can be on hand and close by."
