It's one thing to be fun, but it's another thing to be first. Carnival Dream was at the forefront of a recent wave of amazingly innovative and fun Carnival ships. As the genesis of the Dream class, Carnival Dream set the direction for the ships that followed in her footsteps — first Carnival Magic and then Carnival Breeze. But back to Carnival Dream: the ship itself is a unique experience with the way-fun RedFrog Rum Bar ® and the very cool BlueIguana Tequila Bar ™ . Get your appetite ready, because you're gonna need it. Carnival Dream features two dual-level dining rooms, a gourmet steakhouse and dedicated sushi spot Bonsai Sushi ™ . It's also got a full menu of our latest and greatest casual spots for a bite: BlueIguana Cantina ™ , Pizzeria del Capitano, Guy's Burger Joint ™ and Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse ™ . (That's Guy as in Guy Fieri, by the way — so you know the food's delish.) Carnival Dream also features the borderline-magical Alchemy Bar ® and Ocean Plaza, which combines tasty treats with perhaps even tastier entertainment. Entertainment options are all up and down the ship, and so is soaking-wet fun, from the heart-racing waterslide action at Carnival WaterWorks ™ to the soul-soothing Thalassotherapy pool at the Cloud 9 Spa ™ . Despite its name, Carnival Dream is definitely a reality. Can't believe it? Pinch yourself... and book your dream cruise today.

Deluxe Ocean View (Obstructed View)
On Carnival Dream, Deluxe Ocean View staterooms are great for families. These rooms feature a full bathroom — plus a separate washroom — and while stateroom configurations vary, certain Deluxe Ocean View rooms have space to sleep up to five. (Note that rooms of this type have obstructed views.)
Premium Vista Balcony
Premium Vista Balcony staterooms were designed to wrap around the aft corners of Carnival Dream, giving you a unique vantage point from which to enjoy luxuriously panoramic views of the sky and the sea — and yes, take in even more of that sunshine.
Cloud 9 Spa Balcony
Whether you're warming up for your spa appointment or winding down after your treatment, there's no better place to do it than on your Cloud 9 Spa Balcony. Breathing is important — take the ocean breeze in, then let it out — you're already getting the hang of the whole spa thing!
Aft-View Extended Balcony
Aft-View Extended Balcony staterooms feature a larger balcony for more lounge-around room, more kick-back space; not to even mention some of the best stern-side views you'll find anywhere. Get ready to relax as you gaze upon Carnival Dream's gentle wake from your spacious balcony.
Balcony (Large Balcony)
We designed Carnival Dream Balcony staterooms for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, and this stateroom features a balcony that's even wider than our standard balcony. Enjoy the extra outdoor space, along with all the standard Carnival stateroom amenities.
Balcony staterooms were designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, so look to a balcony if you're looking to cruise aboard Carnival Dream. Any time you're in your room, you're just steps away from your own personal outdoor oasis, featuring the sort of sea view you can also feel.
Cove Balcony
Love the sea? Carnival Dream's Cove Balcony staterooms are the best way to see the sea — these rooms get you close to the waterline, and feature balconies that let you make the most of your location. Enjoy things from a whole new perspective: one amazing up-close view of the wake and seafoam as the ship cruises along.
Grand Suite
A Grand Suite aboard Carnival Dream features even more space than the standard suite — plenty of room in your room! This stateroom is loaded for an unparalleled experience: VIP check-in, a huge balcony, and even a convenient dressing area with vanity.
Amenities exclusive to suites:
- Priority check-in and boarding
- Priority Main Dining Room time assignment
- Priority debarkation at homeport, and ports of call requiring a water shuttle or with arrival times later than 9:30 Am
- Two large bottles of water
- Pillow-top mattress

And like all suites, a Cloud 9 Spa Suite features VIP check-in, which lets you easily get right up to your amazing stateroom.
Plus, all suites include:
Ocean Suite
A Carnival Dream suite is the ultimate way to cruise. With more space for stretching out indoors, plus a large balcony for kicking back outdoors, try an Ocean Suite to experience private, luxurious relaxation. Ocean Suites also include VIP check-in, walk-in closet and bathroom with whirlpool tub.
Junior Suite (Obstructed View)
As you step into a Junior Suite aboard Carnival Dream, you can't help but feel that you're stepping into full-size luxury in a smaller package. Featuring a standard-size balcony, in a Carnival Dream Junior Suite you'll find everything else there is to love about a suite, including VIP check-in, a walk-in closet; and even a whirlpool tub for relaxing. GENTING DREAM: Cruise Guide for First-Timers
The idea of going on a cruise may be intimidating for some because of the cost. Others dismiss it as a retiree’s holiday option. That may be true many years back, but this trend is gradually changing as years roll by.
The rise of more cruise lines, offering different options and encouraging healthy competition, resulted in relatively reasonable cruise rates. Some of these companies are going the extra mile to reach out to the growing number of travelers that are willing to spend on things or experiences that give good value for money by creating themed cruise ships and coming up with innovative itineraries. Genting Dream is one of those that cater to a wide range of guests — friends, families, couples, and even company incentive trips (or sales conference/meeting).
If you will be sailing with Genting Dream soon and it is your first time, this post is for you. We hope this will help you prepare and maximize your cruise experience. Here are the things you can expect.
WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?
Packing & Pre-Trip Preparations
- Travel Documents. You need to bring these documents: passport, a photocopy of your passport’s bio page, a copy of your cruise ticket, and a visa (if necessary). If you are a Philippine passport holder, no visa needed because the sail destinations are within Southeast Asia and the homeport is Singapore. If you want a hassle-free purchase transaction, you may present your credit card.
- Clothes/Outfits. Come on. We know you want to snap as many photos as you can while onboard and during shore excursions. We normally pack two sets of clothes per day: casual for the day activities and smart casual or dressy outfits for the night events, especially if you plan to watch the evening shows or try the fine-dining specialty restaurants. The same goes for footwear. The important thing is that you are comfortable.
- Toiletries. The stateroom comes with the toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, cotton buds, and tissues. It also has bath towels, hand towels, bathrobes, and hotel slippers.
- Check-in Luggage. Each passenger can check in more than one luggage without incurring additional fees.
- Onboard Currency. The default currency while on the ship is the Singapore Dollar (SGD).
- Onboard Time. Genting Dream follows Singapore time (same as the Philippines) throughout the entire cruise.
- Dream Cruise Mobile App. Download the App before getting onboard. You can use the App to view ship information, see the daily onboard schedule, check availability of onboard attractions and facilities. You can also use this to send IM to your shipmates, purchase your onboard WiFi package, and review your onboard account statement.
- Embarkation Process. Genting Dream is homeporting in Singapore at the Marina Bay Cruise Center. Upon arrival at the terminal, look for the baggage drop area for the pieces of luggage you want to check-in. Prepare your travel documents for check-in. After that, you will pass through immigration and then security checks before you can finally board the ship.
- Checking-in. You need to present your cruise ticket at the check-in counter to get your Access Card that will serve as your cabin keycard and your purchase card for onboard shopping and when dining at specialty restaurants. You can check-in online via the official website from 7 days up to 24 hours prior to the departure date. If you are going on a shore excursion, you also need to present the Access Card when getting off and returning to the ship. Do not lose this card. When you do, relax. Go to the Reception and they will print another one for you after answering SOP questions.
- Surrender Passport. Upon boarding, the staff will take your passport. Do not panic. You will get it back after the cruise (before you check out).
WELCOME ABOARD!
ATTENTION! Changi Lounge is offering the Fly-Cruise Transfer service, which includes: Seamless bag transfer. End-to-end luggage transfer from Changi Airport Baggage Claim area to the Marina Bay Cruise Terminal to your stateroom! Your luggage will be waiting for you in your cabin. Advance cruise check-in at the lounge. You will have your documents processed in advance and get your Access Card here. Enjoy the lounge amenities. Complimentary buffet, various drink selections, free internet connection, desktop computers, and electrical outlets. It also has meeting rooms, a nap room, and a shower room. You can also explore Jewel while waiting. The lounge is located near the famous Rain Vortex and the Changi Experience Studio. Ground transfer. The transportation to the cruise terminal from the airport is also covered. When you avail of this service, you will skip the check-in process at the Marina Bay Cruise Center and head straight to the immigration process.
Safety Drill
Before setting sail, there’s a safety drill that everyone is required to participate in. You need to pay attention and familiarize yourself with the ship’s map, especially your Assembly Station (which is indicated on your Access Card), and the emergency exits in case of an emergency. Check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory that you will find in your cabin for the safety drill schedule. Ours was held at 9:00 PM.
3 Complimentary Restaurants
This is part of what you paid for when you booked your cruise ticket. You can dine here without incurring additional fees. It’s free-of-charge. Genting Dream has three inclusive restaurant options:
- Dream Dining Room Lower. It serves either a semi-buffet type or Chinese set menu, depending on the schedule. You may check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory for the info. This is located on Deck 7, Aft section of the ship. Reservation is required.
- Dream Dining Room Upper. This only serves the Chinese set menu. This is located on Deck 8, Aft section of the ship. Reservation is required.
- The Lido. This serves Asian and international buffet, including Halal and Indian cuisines. The outdoor area of the restaurant is a 24-hour snack place that also serves morning tea and afternoon tea. This is located on Deck 16, Aft section.
Dream Dining Room Upper and Lower have a ballroom hall-themed setting and floor-to-ceiling windows that afford guests the magnificent views of the ocean.
Note: Alcoholic drinks are not free-of-charge.
You may also try the specialty restaurants! Genting Dream has nine. Charges apply when dining at any of these, but if you are craving any of their offerings, go for it. Here are your options:
- Umi Uma (Japanese Cuisine and Teppanyaki / Korean BBQ; Deck 8, Aft)
- Hot Pot (Choice of meat, seafood or vegetarian hot pot; outdoor setting; Deck 8, Aft)
- Prime Steakhouse by Mark Best (Western Dishes / Steak; Deck 8, Mid)
- Seafood Grill by Mark Best (Western Dishes / Seafood; Deck 8, Mid)
- Gelateria (Homemade Gelato; Deck 8, Aft)
- Blue Lagoon (Hawker Food / Asian and International; Deck 7, Mid, open 24 hours)
- Lobby Café (Coffee / Tea / Bread; Deck 6, Mid)
- Silk Road Chinese Restaurant (Chinese Fine Dining; Deck 6, Forward)
- Crystal Life Cuisine (Healthy Options; Deck 15, Forward)
Shore Excursions (Shorex)
To put it simply, these are pre-arranged tours at every stop. One of the best things I love about cruising is that you get to visit other countries while enjoying the cruise ship’s amenities and features at the same time.
This time with Genting Dream, we took the weekend getaway package with a stop at Bintan Island in Indonesia. For this stop, there are three Shorex options to choose from: Tanjung Urban Explorer, Scuba Tryout at Trikora Coast, and Bintan Black Coral Leisure Diving. We took the first option which includes Gurun Pasir Busung (sand desert), Telaga Biru (Blue Oasis), and Trily Resort Center Mangrove Forest in the itinerary.
You can also pull a D-I-Y. It’s up to you. Here are the scenarios:
- Booking a Shorex. This is the same as joining a guided group tour. You won’t have to worry about getting to one attraction to the next or how much it will cost you because everything, including the meal, will be taken care of for you by the local tour operator partners. You can be assured that you will return to the ship on time.
- Pulling a D-I-Y. You can travel at your own pace and control your itinerary. It is also a cheaper option. BUT, you need to be aware of the time. Make sure that you return to the port on time or earlier because the ship will not wait for you. It will leave, with or without you.
Whatever you choose, you will be given a small sheet of paper upon disembarkation. This usually contains instructions and the address of the port where the ship is docked. Don’t forget to bring your Access Card and a photocopy of your passport bio page.
Note: Some Shorex options may require a lot of walking or trekking or activities that might not be suitable for those with health issues. Carefully check the itinerary and assess if the tour is viable for you. Also, each tour needs a minimum number of participants. A tour may be canceled if it doesn’t meet the minimum requirement.
Room and Amenities
Genting Dream has four types of accommodations: Interior Stateroom, Oceanview Stateroom, Balcony Stateroom, and the exclusive suites, collectively referred to as The Palace. Since the ship caters to families and big groups, there are over 100 connecting rooms. About 70 percent of accommodations feature spacious balcony staterooms. Aside from the toiletries and towels, the rooms also have haird ryer, mini-refrigerator, safe, water kettle, complimentary bottled water, tea, coffee, and sugar packets. These are replenished daily as housekeeping do regular cleaning.
The cheapest is the Interior Stateroom. If you want to make the most of the ship’s features, you will probably be spending most of your time outside the room — swimming, sunbathing, eating, playing, shopping, watching shows or going on shore excursions.
Here are some amenities that you can enjoy for FREE:
- Waterslide Park. You have six slide types to choose from — from gentle slopes for the family to steep inclines for the adventurous. Wear proper swimming attire. Follow the rules and the staff on duty for your safety. Located on Deck 20, Aft.
- Main Pool and Kids Water Park. Located on Deck 16, Mid. You can see the Waterslide Park from here. You can also relax and sunbathe at the Sun Deck on Deck 17, Mid.
- Crystal Life Fitness. This is the gym. If you don’t want to miss your workout routine, you can do it here. Located on Deck 15. You can also go to the Jogging Track on Deck 17, Forward.
- Ropes Course. Perfect bonding activity for the family, couples, and groups. Complete the course and punctuate it with the 35-meter zipline, gliding along the side of the ship above the water from Deck 18.
- Sportsplex. A large outdoor court that can host basketball, tennis, archery, bubble soccer, and other physical games. Located on Deck 19, Aft.
- Rock Climbing Wall. Wear proper footwear. Located on Deck 18, Aft.
- Mini-Golf. Nine-hole putting course. Please wear proper sports shoes. Located on Deck 18, Aft.
If you like to shop or bring home some souvenirs, you can get duty-free items from The Dream Boutiques located on Decks 6 and 7. The Dream Store/Souvenir Mart, located on Deck 6, is where you can get Dream Cruises merchandise. If you fell in love with one of the artworks you see inside the ship, you can go to the Art Gallery, located on Deck 8, to purchase a copy of that artwork.
Evening Shows and Events
The night is as exciting as the day onboard Genting Dream. You can choose from brilliant live production shows brought to you by the award-winning international entertainment team. During our cruise, we have two choices: SONIO – A Tale of Two Dreams and Some Like It Hot. We were able to watch the latter at Zodiac Theatre. You need to reserve your seat for the show at the Box Office on Deck 6 (Mid). You can find the opening hours of the Box Office on the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory sheet provided in your cabin.
If you want to brush up on your moves and still got the energy to dance the night away, let Zouk and Zouk Beach Club orchestrate an unforgettable party for you as it brings the best beats by world-class DJs. Both are located on Deck 17. Zouk is Singapore’s most sought-after nightclub and consistently chosen one of the top ten clubs in the world.
If you booked a 5-night cruise, expect a grand night party on the last night called Dream Night. This usually happens at the pool deck. You can also check out the bars if you just want to have a sip and unwind. Here are some of them: Sun Deck Bar (Deck 17/Mid), Pool Deck Bar (Deck 16/Mid), Red Lion (Deck 7/Mid/24 hours), Bar 360 (Deck 6/Mid), Karaoke (five rooms/Deck 6/Mid), and Bar City, a collection of bars in one area: Johnnie Walker House, Penfolds Wine Vault, Mixt Cocktail Bar, Humidor Cigar Lounge, and Bubbles Champagne Bar (Deck 8/Mid).
Cinema at Sea
For movie enthusiasts, you can still watch while on board. Depending on the schedule, here are the places to catch flicks: Zodiac Theatre (Deck 7/Forward), Zouk Beach Club (Deck 17/Aft), and the Lobby (Deck 6/Mid). Check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory sheet for the venue and the time.
Yes! You can connect to the internet while at sea. How? Subscribe to WiFi through the Dream Cruises Mobile App. Here are the rates. Note: Rates vary depending on how many days and the package type.
- Standard: SGD19 – SGD95. Good for e-mail, chat, and social media. You can connect up to two devices.
- Premium: SGD29 – SGD145. Good for e-mail, chat, social media, and light media streaming. You can connect up to two devices.
Checking Out and Disembarkation
The day before disembarkation, you will receive a Disembarkation Notice explaining the check out procedure, disembarkation procedure, travel document collection, and baggage collection.
- If you don’t want to carry your luggage throughout the disembarkation process, you may leave it outside your cabin on or before the specified time. Set aside a small carry on bag for all the important stuff such as your wallet, your travel documents, prescribed medicine, etc. Get your luggage at the Baggage Claim Area after going through the immigration process.
- Settle your account’s balance before checking out to avoid delays during disembarkation. Reminder: A mandatory gratuity of SGD21 per night is charged to EVERY guest. For guests staying in the suite, it’s SGD26 per night. This rule is not applicable to infants below two years old.

I saved every receipt — here’s how much it actually costs to go on a Disney Dream cruise
One of the best things about cruising is that you can pay for a cruise months in advance, forget how much it costs, and then board the ship on embarkation day blissfully ignorant of how much you paid to get there and ready for vacation spending.
While I'm not one to keep a tally of every dollar I spend on trips, it's sometimes nice to know exactly how much I've spent, down to booking a hotel the night before a cruise, drinks on board the ship and purchases in port. So on one of my recent Disney Cruise Line sailings on the Disney Dream cruise ship, I saved every receipt to figure out how much my family and I actually paid for the vacation.
Having that information is important, not just for me when I'm ready to plan my next cruise with Mickey and the gang, but so you can budget appropriately for your next Disney Dream cruise. Let's face it — Disney Cruise Line vacations are expensive, but the memories made on the ships are priceless.
Is it possible for families on a budget to afford a Disney cruise? The short answer is yes, but there is some strategy involved. Here's how much our Disney Dream cruise really cost for a family of three.

Disney Dream cruise costs
Before I dive into just how much my trip cost, let me give you some background.
The pricing for this cruise is based on my family of three adults. A cruise with kids will likely have a different balance of expenses.
Our transportation to the embarkation port of Miami is not included since the expense can vary greatly depending on how you choose to get to the port. We drove since we live in Florida, but not everyone is lucky enough to live within driving distance of their departure port. I did include all the other costs from our trip, including a pre-cruise hotel stay, the actual cruise fare and dining at specialty restaurants on board.
My family and I were not super strict with our budget, but we also didn't splurge on everything. We did treat ourselves to a few meals at the adults-only restaurants on Disney Dream and a few cocktails each day, but we never went overboard with extras in the ports of call. Checking our onboard account each morning through the Disney Cruise Line app made it possible for us to have a fun vacation without emptying our bank accounts.

Cruise booking
Our biggest cost on this trip was the cruise fare because sailings on Disney Dream are not cheap. Even if you avoid the specialty restaurants, skip excursions in each port and stay in one of the cheaper cabins, you'll still spend a few thousand dollars just to get on board.
For three adults sharing a cabin, Disney Dream vacations currently start at $2,317, including taxes and fees, and that's for a three-night sailing to the Bahamas in 2024. If you're planning a longer cruise or a European cruise, it will cost significantly more, especially during peak times when kids are out of school or during a themed sailing.
Because of how expensive Disney cruise sailings are, I always look for deals, either a Florida resident offer or a discount on a select sail date.
Related: 11 ways to save money on a Disney cruise
Our Disney Dream cruise was a five-night Halloween on the High Seas sailing, with a Florida resident discount for three people booked in a balcony cabin (which Disney calls a verandah stateroom). The total cost of the cruise, including taxes and fees, was $2,497.28.
Total for cruise booking: $2,497.28
Pre-cruise hotel accommodations
I always suggest that people arrive in their embarkation city or a city nearby at least the day before a cruise. This relieves the stress of having to get to the ship on time in case of flight delays or blocked roadways.
The night before my Disney Dream cruise, my family and I stayed at Disney's Vero Beach Resort, which is a little over halfway from our home in Jacksonville, Florida, to Miami.
We used Disney Vacation Club points to book an "Inn-Standard View" room, which was big enough for the three of us. The room cost us 16 points, so we technically didn't spend any money on booking a hotel the night before. Unless you have points to spend, don't forget to budget for lodging before or after your cruise, as needed.
Total for hotel: $0
Pre-cruise meals
The night before our cruise, we decided to eat out in Vero Beach at American Icon Brewery. Everyone in my family got a local beer to try, then we shared an appetizer, and everyone got their own entree. The meal set us back $106.55.
While Disney's Vero Beach does have an on-site restaurant, we enjoy getting out in the city and trying a local place. American Icon Brewery was fun, and the food and service were both great.
Related: 14 things you should do before every cruise
For breakfast the morning of our cruise, I brought muffins that I made at home for my family to enjoy. The room included a coffee maker and Keurig coffee pods, so we drank that with our light breakfast. Disney's Vero Beach Resort does serve breakfast at its onsite restaurant, but we needed to hit the road early to get to our 11 a.m. port arrival time, so the muffins and coffee were a perfect easy breakfast.
Total for dinner: $106.55
Parking at the port
Parking at any cruise port can add a large amount to a cruise vacation. For five nights, parking at PortMiami was $110. We paid for this as we were leaving the parking deck rather than upfront.
Total for parking: $110
Specialty dining on board
Disney Dream has two adults-only specialty dining restaurants onboard, Palo and Remy. To dine at either restaurant, cruisers should get a reservation in advance through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. If you can't secure a reservation before the sailing, ask about walk-up availability for either restaurant once on board. Just be sure to head straight to the hostess desk outside of Palo and Remy as soon as you board the ship (even before eating lunch) because any open reservations will be snapped up quickly.
My family always eats at Palo for brunch on a Disney cruise, and this time was no different. The meal is a high-end table service option that starts with your choice of a charcuterie board or chilled seafood platter, plus a delightful spread of bread. The menu is also filled with entrees like house-made pizzas, plate-size Mickey waffles, made-to-order pasta and elevated egg dishes like frittatas.
The meal for the three of us cost $170. My dad also ordered Palo's signature bloody Mary, which tacked on another $12.39 to our meal.

On this cruise, for the first time ever, my family and I dined at Remy, a French-inspired restaurant that was worth every penny. To start, we were served a welcome cocktail called The Collette, which is named after the female chef in the Pixar movie, "Ratatouille."
Then we were presented menus that were divided into two prix-fixe options, one that leaned more French and one that leaned more high-end American. I chose the French menu, while my parents chose the American menu. The meal overall was fantastic and was worth the $462.50 for the three of us.
Total for specialty dining: $644.89
Specialty drinks and alcohol
One thing that sets Disney Cruise Line apart from other family-friendly cruises is that it doesn't offer all-inclusive drink packages . Passengers must purchase all beverages on board at the per-drink price, though drink prices on Disney ships can sometimes be slightly cheaper than similar libations on other big-ship lines. Plus, soda is included in your cruise fare.
Disney Cruise Line also allows passengers to bring your own wine or beer on board at every port , while other cruise lines restrict guests to one bottle of wine at embarkation only. Not only does this policy allow you to potentially save money on beverage costs, but you can enjoy interesting brews and vintages from the places you visit.
Every night, my family went to happy hour at the adults-only bar Meridian, which is located between Palo and Remy. This spacious bar has large windows that overlook the sea and two outdoor patios with seating. Cocktails for five nights at Meridian cost my family of three $179.67.
Other places to have a specialty cocktail or coffee on Disney Dream include the Cove Cafe, Skyline, Pink and 687. At these other bars, my family spent $122.16.
While we enjoyed all of the bars and lounges on the ship, Meridian was easily our favorite and not just because of the view. The Cast Members who work in this bar are top-notch and learned our cocktail preferences quickly. By night two, they were shaking up off-menu cocktails that they knew we would enjoy.
Total for drinks: $301.83
Disney Cruise Line allows guests to prepay their onboard gratuities for their stateroom host and their service team in the dining room. This charge came to $72.50 per guest.
On top of the standard gratuities, we chose to give an extra $20 to our dining room server, assistant server and head server, plus our stateroom host , all of whom get a portion of the prepaid gratuities. At the end of our cruise, we also gave the two bartenders in Meridian an additional $20 in cash for all of their hard work throughout the week and for making our vacation special.
Total for gratuities: $337.50
While I'm not normally one to get a souvenir from a cruise ship, I couldn't resist making a few purchases on Disney Dream.
My favorite Disney character, Sorcerer Mickey, is the stern character on the ship, so a lot of the Dream-branded merchandise has this variation of Mickey on it. And since this was a Halloween cruise, I found some spooky souvenirs in the stores, too. I dropped $118.97 on merchandise.
Total for souvenirs: $118.97
Related: 11 things you should never buy on a cruise ship
On most cruises, my family and I opt to explore the port on our own versus buying excursions . It saves us money, and we can head back to the ship whenever we want. On this cruise, our ports of call were Grand Cayman and Disney's private island , Castaway Cay.
Because we've visited Grand Cayman previously and it's not our favorite cruise port, we stayed on the ship that day to enjoy the less crowded pool decks and a nice lunch inside one of the main dining rooms.
On our Castaway Cay port day, we did get off the ship but didn't opt for any of the island's excursions, instead heading to the adults-only beach, Serenity Bay. We also enjoyed lunch at the adults-only beach, which is included in the overall cruise cost.
If we were going on a cruise to destinations we had never been to before, like a Disney cruise to the Mediterranean or Alaska , we would likely opt to do Disney-sponsored excursions, which are often a few hundred dollars per person per excursion. And if your family has never been to Grand Cayman, you might want to book a tour to explore the island or one of its attractions.
Excursions: $0
Spa services
One of my favorite areas on any Disney cruise is the Senses Spa and its Rainforest Room. This area of the spa features multiple shower experiences, saunas, a row of heated lounge chairs and two private hot tubs. The best part is that the lounge chairs and the hot tubs are in a glass-enclosed space, so you can see the ocean or ports while using the facilities.
On this five-night sailing, my mom and I booked a "couples rate" to be able to come and go from the Rainforest Room as we wanted throughout the cruise. The total cost for that was $187.62. My mom also opted to get a massage on the cruise, which cost $209.42.
Total for spa services: $397.04
What it really costs to go on a Disney Dream cruise
For three adults sharing one cabin on a five-night Halloween-themed sailing on Disney Dream, the total cost came to $4,514.06. That equals out to each person paying $1,504.69 for the trip, or $300.94 per person, per day.
To put that in perspective, our five-night Disney cruise was a similar cost on a per-person, per-day basis to TPG's Summer Hull's three-day trip to Walt Disney World .
Based on our trip, here's the major breakdown of Disney Cruise Line trip expenses:
- 55.3% cruise fare
- 2.4% pre-cruise hotel and meal
- 2.4 % parking
- 14.3% onboard dining
- 6.7% drinks
- 7.5% gratuities
- 2.6% souvenirs
- 0% excursions
- 8.8% spa services
A Disney cruise can be an affordable way to take a Disney vacation, especially if you're willing to forgo upcharges such as concierge rooms and pricey excursions in ports of call. On my family's Disney Dream cruise, we kept our daily expenses to just over $900, though it's very easy to rack up a folio bill for thousands of dollars a day more. If you want to stay within a certain budget, be sure to try as many money-saving hacks as possible to keep the cost in check.
A Disney vacation will never be cheap, but with some planning and flexibility, it is possible to take a Disney cruise without draining your bank account.

We went to the marina cruise center on the Marina South Pier MRT earlier than the assigned Covid-19 test at 3pm. We arrived about 11.15am and all the way there are a lot of crew guiding our way to do the Covid-19 test. Once you get the test result by SMS, you will get a check-in ticket before going to the departure hall.
The departure hall will open around 1pm. If the time is still early, there is a free shuttle bus to Vivocity. Don’t worry about this crowd of queue, there is another waiting area base on the group check-in ticket.
After the departure hall open, we are allowed to go in for the X-ray luggage check, get the cress pass and also the Tracey token. Last but not least, we were then assigned to the group 1B seating area base on the coupon given before entering the dream cruise at 2pm.
Singapore Dream Cruise Free Guide on Activities
There are a lot of activities on board you can have fun with kids, friends and family. However, there are few things you need to take note of. The dream cruise activities are divided into free, chargeable, walking in first come first serve and booking in advance is needed.
Free activity
The activities are mostly outdoor and may stop if the weather is bad. We manage to play some of the activities only because the booking is full. The 3 days 2 nights cruise is actually quite short and not enough time if you are new and a first-timer like me. We will share our experiences so that can help you pre-plan the activity in advance.
1. Dream Cruise Jacuzzi (booking needed)
The first thing you should do after putting the luggage in the room. The jacuzzi booking is located on deck 16. After that, the crew will give you the booking slip. After we finish lunch, the Q is almost more than 20 people ahead of when we pass by. Besides that, we booked the jacuzzi 1 on zouk side at 5pm which you can view the sea view at the end of the cruise. The jacuzzi at the zouk side has no shelter as compared to the main pool.
2. Dream Cruise Swimming pool (booking needed)
We planned to book for the next day when booking the jacuzzi. The crew asked us to come back tomorrow. On the next day we come back but all the slots are fully booked.
3. Dream Cruise Mini-Golf (booking needed)
There is only 1 mini-golf course on the cruise. We do not know we need to book in advance. The booking is full on the next day afternoon when we want to play rope course at 12pm. You may consider booking this mini-golf at deck 18 in advance if you want to play.
4. Table Tennis (booking needed)
5. SportsPlex Basketball/football (booking needed)
The rope course and zipline cannot book in advance. You need to come during the operating hour. We come at 2.45pm for the 3pm slot. There are quite a number of people in front of us. We finish the zipline at 4.30pm and missed the vision magic show at 4pm. If you don’t like long Q can consider coming in early.
Rock climbing wall cannot book in advance. You need to come during the operating hour at 9am or 3pm same time as rope course. We do not have enough time for this due to the long Q situation.
8. Big Chess Board Floor (first come first serve – no Q)
There are 5 slides in the Singapore Dream Cruise. For a beginner, the slide is 1 to 3. For amateurs, slide 4 and 5. When you standing on slides 4 and 5, the hole is quite scary. Don’t worry, just slide it and have fun.
Chargeable activity
Most of these activities are indoor. No booking is needed, you can just walk in and enjoy games and charge to your cruise card. 1. Esc EXPERIENCE LAB (VR experience) 2. Esport Arena 3. Arcade
Singapore Dream Cruise Free Guide on Food/Dining
The Singapore Dream Cruise package comes with inclusive dining which means you can eat for free at a certain restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurants are: Dream Dining Room level 7 (Western food), Dream Dining Room level 8 (Chinese food), The Lido (Buffet) and The Lido Snack Corner. The food served may change from time to time and base on the dream cruise theme. We can only share our experiences on this 3 day 2 nights Wonders of Japan theme.
1. Dream Dining Room level 8 (Chinese food)
We have our first lunch for Chinese food on the Singapore Dream Cruise. The reception assigns us a table. After that, we just walk to the table and the waiter will serve the Chinese food. The free beverage will be a pot of Chinese tea.
You can just request again the food if you are not enough without extra charges. Remember to request the dessert if the waiter is busy and forget to serve you.
Dream Daily Apps Menu Viewing
We also have a second-day breakfast at Dream Dining Room level 8 for dim sum. Unfortunately, I forget to view the menu again on the second day morning. The dim sum menu I viewed before sleep is the dim sum menu for the returning cruise breakfast.
Dream Dining Room Dim Sum Breakfast
2. Dream Dining Room level 7 (Western food)
3. The Lido (Buffet)
We decided to try The Lido for our second-day lunch. The reception will assign you a table. After that, you can hunt around for the food you like. This is a buffet-style lunch. There are varieties of food you can choose from, Chinese, Indian, Malay, western, vegetarian, dessert and many more.
The Lido Lunch Buffet
The Lido Lunch Buffet Dessert

This is again a buffet-style dinner and with Japan theme food. Apart from the normal buffet style, japan theme is added. There are varieties japan food such as sushi, Okinawa soba and japan desserts. Besides that, we also have a tasting portion of wagyu beef which is the main event for this Wonders of Japan-themed Singapore Dream Cruise.
Wagyu Beef Testing Portion
We are not sure about the dream dining room will have the same tasting portion as The Lido.
The Lido Breakfast Buffet
#Tips Best recommend trying out second-day dinner for the theme of the cruise.

This is the best corner for brunch, teatime and supper if you feel hungry in the Singapore Dream Cruise without spending any extra money.

What to Expect on a Cruise to Nowhere — Dream Cruises’ World Dream Review
Update: Dream Cruises’ World Dream has ceased operations since 2 March 2022.
With travel out of the books, we’ve been on the lookout for other meaningful ways to take a good well-deserved break.
In Nov 2020, Singapore began cruises to nowhere . It’s not very different from regular cruises except this time, there aren’t any ports of call. You leave Singapore’s shores and return without stepping foot in other countries.
We had the pleasure of sailing on the World Dream — the newest ship of the Dream Cruises fleet just built in 2017!
For those wondering if a cruise to nowhere is safe and worth it — we’ve sussed out the whole experience — from pre-boarding process and accommodation as well as things to do , food onboard , and safety precautions . Here’s our no holds barred experience of our three-night stay on the World Dream!
Pre-boarding Process for a Cruise to Nowhere
Thanks to COVID-19, there are a few extra steps to take before getting on the cruise:
1) Check-in online before your cruise (up to 90 days before departure) — upload a scanned copy of your passport or NRIC. 2) On the day of departure, guests will have to check in via SafeEntry, undergo temperature screening and fill in a health declaration form. 3) All guests will have to take a COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test (ART) at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre (level 3). Check your pre-assigned timeslot for the test, printed on the ticket. 4) After receiving a negative ART result, check-in your baggage.
*Pro-tip: Pack light and skip the baggage check-in to save time.
5) Collect your key card and TRACEY — for contact tracing. These must be with you at all times on the ship. 6) Lastly, immigration. The automatic lanes now use facial recognition, so you don’t have to scan your thumb.
Despite the extra steps, the entire check-in process was actually very smooth and only took about 45 minutes in total. If you check the World Dream FAQ page, it states that waiting time for the swab results can take up to an hour — ours only took 20 minutes.
Note that the ART is slightly different from the PCR test — it’s a lot less intrusive and painless!
Accommodation on board Dream Cruises’ World Dream
Balcony deluxe stateroom.
Our room for the next three nights!
Our Balcony Deluxe Stateroom had a comfy queen-size bed, large sofa, flat-screen TV and a private balcony. This was my virgin cruise experience and I was pretty impressed with the size of the room.
The bathroom was really spacious too, with a dual-tap sink and rain shower with seriously good water pressure — no complaints so far!
It was surprisingly comfortable, but the best part is looking out on the balcony and realising you’re no longer on land — ah, that ever-changing sea view.
A gorgeous sunrise view from our balcony on the first morning
*Pro-tip: If your room isn’t facing the east side, head to Zouk Beach Club at the back of the ship for an uninterrupted sunrise view.
Cost: From ~S$300/pax for two nights
While the Balcony staterooms are cosy, we got to visit The Palace — it’s basically the Sentosa Cove of the ship!
Staying here gives you access to exclusive restaurants and programmes, 24-hour butler service, and priority access to shows. The Palace also has its own facilities that non-Palace guests can’t access, like a separate pool and gym — talk about living that bougie life for three nights!
Palace Suite
Palace Suites include a queen bed, sofa bed and a luxury bathroom with a bathtub. You can also look forward to a complimentary mini-bar and Nespresso coffee machine.
The best part is the balcony — it’s twice the size of the one in the Balcony Deluxe Room!
Cost: From ~S$660/pax for two nights
Read more: Our Palace Suite Experience — Dream Cruises Review
Palace Villa
We also got to tour the best suite onboard — the Palace Villa. It has two bedrooms, a dining room, living room and three bathrooms.
The Palace Villa’s master bathroom. Just wow.
There’s plenty of outdoor space too, like a private sun deck, jacuzzi and sauna. At the front of the ship, no less!
The guest room in the Palace Villa .
Free Things to Do on a Cruise to Nowhere
Thrilling activities.
Waterslide Park
The Waterslide Park has five thrilling slides — three looping slides and two steep drops! The loop slides are a lot of fun, with clear segments for sneaky views of the ocean. Just a fair warning that the drops are not for the faint-hearted!
Workout and Dance Classes
Some of the most underrated cruise activities are the free fitness and dance classes! There are at least two classes daily.
Ballroom dancing taught by Gabriele from Italy and Laura from Spain!
Being the fomo / kiasu travellers, we attended four in total — Muay Thai, HIIT, Ballroom Dance and Bellydance. These ended up being one of the highlights of our cruise! It was a great experience being taught by instructors from all over the world.
My favourites were the dance classes. As someone with no dance background and limited grace, they were a lot more fun than expected. The instructors were friendly and patient, and the moves weren’t too hard to pick up — I’m ready to start my own dance crew now 😎
Post-HIIT with personal trainer Natalie Yeo .
Classes are limited to 15 – 20pax on a first-come-first-serve basis, but the ones we attended were less than half-filled. What a waste! But now that you can’t leave the ship, it’s the best time to try all these fun classes. Classes can be found on the Dream Daily — a daily newsletter you get at the start of each day.
Ropes Course and Zipline
The rooftop Ropes Course is a good source of adrenaline — navigate through different obstacles and end off by ziplining over the ocean!
There’s even a full-sized basketball court to shoot some hoops! This space is also occasionally used for fun activities like a reverse bungee run. Reserve your slot at Deck 18, at the Ropes Course area.
Rock Climbing Wall
Scale new heights at the rock wall on Deck 18! The course isn’t too difficult so it’s perfect for kids and beginners.
Crystal Life Fitness
Squeeze in a quick workout at the well-equipped Crystal Life Fitness gym. There are several treadmills, gym machines, and a weight-training area to help you work up a sweat.
Plus the view provides extra motivation to work harder! Book a slot in person at the counter on Deck 15.
Chill Activities
Main Pool Deck
At the heart of all the action lies the main pool deck, with four relaxing jacuzzis.
Currently, the pool is limited to 26pax, while the jacuzzi is limited to two guests each for hourly timeslots. You’ll have to reserve a slot at the pool reception desk.
Enjoy a chill game of mini golf with your friends on Deck 17 — no bookings required!
Cinema at Sea
Zouk Beach Club is now used as an outdoor movie theatre!
There’s a broad selection of films playing throughout the day around the cruise. On our sailing, there was Jumanji: The Next Level at the outdoor Zouk Beach Club, Spiderman: Far From Home at the Zodiac Theatre, and Bad Boys for Life at The Lobby. There are about six films playing each day.
The Zodiac Theatre, also used for performances.
The Dream Boutiques, The Dream Store and Souvenir Mart
For the shopaholics, The Dream Boutiques offers a small range of luxury goods. Look out for occasional designer handbags and jewellery clearance sales on the Dream Daily!
Snackaholics can head to The Dream Store for souvenirs and snacks.
FAITH is everything you’d want in a show — ballet, acrobatics, comedy, visual technology. The cast features performers from all over the world, and it’s the show’s first time launching in Singapore!
Join comedian Txema Munoz in a night of comedy and magic from 5 Nov 2021.
VISION by Vincent Vignaud
Experience the magic of illusions up close with renowned illusionist Vincent Vignaud — great for both kids and adults!
The Paid Stuff on a Cruise to Nowhere
Some activities on World Dream require an additional charge but are still worthwhile for a more unique experience.
Esc EXPERIENCE LAB
Virtuix Omni.
For some virtual reality fun, check out Esc EXPERIENCE LAB . On World Dream, there are eight exciting games — from full-motion rollercoasters to Formula 1 racing simulators.
Our top pick is the Virtuix Omni, a multi-directional simulator with free range of motion, allowing you to chase down (or run from) zombies.
The Icaros Flying Simulator is a close second — you’re essentially a drone hunting enemy drones.
The Esc EXPERIENCE LAB includes an eSports Arena which hosts daily tournaments for popular games like Street Fighter and Tekken 7 . When there aren’t tournaments, you can book the space and enjoy games like Mario Kart on the big screen!
Cost: S$4 – S$20 per game
*Pro-tip: Look out for special game promotions on the Dream Daily like S$40 for 30 minutes of unlimited gameplay!
There’s a small arcade onboard — a whole separate venue from the Esc EXPERIENCE LAB.
Cost: ~S$3/game
Crystal Life Spa
The Crystal Life Spa is the place to go for a full on pampering session. You could get a full-body massage, detox facial, or makeover. We opted for a spa access pass (S$20/pax) to enjoy the sauna, steam room and vitality pools (both hot and cold!).
Cost: From S$20
Food — Where and what to eat on a cruise to nowhere
Free restaurants (no top-up required).
The Lido is the free buffet spread you’d expect on a cruise. Here, there are rows of international cuisine like Indian curry, laksa , pizza, and a mountain of desserts — all in one place.
Breakfast for four! We might have gone slightly overboard.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, you won’t be able to help yourself to the food. On the plus side, the friendly servers are very generous with the portions. There’s also a 24-hour snack bar right outside, perfect for midnight munchies.
Dream Dining Room Lower
For Western fare, check out Dream Dining Room Lower for a tasty three-course meal!
Main course options for lunch include Sauteed Black Pepper Beef, Fish and Chips, and Fusilli Pasta. The menu varies a lot, so don’t worry about having the same meal twice.
Dream Dining Room Upper
Dreaming Dining Room Upper serves zi char -style Chinese cuisine. On the menu for the day: Sweet and sour pork, Chinese cabbage, pork ribs, and bitter gourd soup.
The dinner menu that day looked really appetising — assam pedas seasonal fish and wok-fried frog legs!
*Pro-tip: Opt for lunch here as it gets pretty packed during dinner.
Specialty Restaurants (top-up required)
There are over 20 specialty restaurants and bars on the World Dream. The prices are comparable to Singapore restaurant prices, but with an 18% service charge.
For the experience, we’d recommend setting aside at least one meal at a specialty restaurant.
For us, we tried Umi Uma, a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant, where set meals start from S$58.
I’ve had teppanyaki before, but nothing like this. Our chef was a man of many talents. He taught us how to juggle an egg with a spatula and let us (attempt to) catch food with our mouths. Talk about dinner and a show!
The food itself was great. I enjoyed a juicy filet mignon steak, with salad, fried rice and stir-fried veggies on the side. For dessert, I opted for green tea ice cream with a matcha cake. Yum!
Themed Events on the World Dream
Dream Cruises runs periodic themed events on board, so there’s always something new to look forward to. Check out World Dream’s calendar for upcoming events!
A Nordic Christmas Adventure
Celebrate Christmas the Scandinavian way with Dream Cruises’ Christmas themed sailings from 17 Nov 2021 – 1 Jan 2022. Enjoy Nordic markets, cultural workshops and Holly Jolly — a special holiday production featuring contortionists, acrobats and elements from the Nutcracker ballet!
If you’re sailing on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, there’ll be holiday favourites like roast turkey and beef wellington at The Lido and Dream Dining Room Lower. 😋
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for a Cruise to Nowhere
1) Do I need to be fully vaccinated to go on a Cruise to Nowhere?
As of now, guests don’t need to be vaccinated. However, you do need to be fully vaccinated to dine-in on board — the same as the current guidelines.
Take note that from 21 Nov 2021, all World Dream sailings will require its guests to be fully vaccinated, excluding children aged 12 and below. Guests must complete their vaccination at least 14 days before the cruising date to be eligible for the cruise.
2) Do I have to take a COVID-19 test?
Yes, as an added safety precaution, all guests have to take the COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test (ART) before boarding. The cost of the ART will be waived for new World Dream bookings for cruises departing from 20 Jan 2021 – 1 Apr 2022.
3) What are the safety precautions on board?
Contact tracing: Every guest is given a key card and TRACEY pod which has to be on you at all times. Your key card is required for tap in everywhere you go — restaurants, shops, shows etc. It’s like the ship’s version of SafeEntry.
Your temperature is also taken before entering potentially crowded areas, like theatres or restaurants.
Reduced capacity: In general, the ship is limited to a capacity of 50%, or 1,700 passengers — which is great for guests because other than mealtimes, we didn’t feel it was crowded at all. Most activities like waterslides and virtual reality games didn’t require waiting in queues!
This also applies to shows, restaurants and activities. The Zodiac Theatre, for example, currently allows 250 people, just 25% of its usual capacity. Don’t worry about missing shows, there are multiple timings to ensure all guests have a chance to catch them.
Hand sanitiser: These stations can be found all over the ship, as well as safe distancing markers on the floor reminding guests to practise social distancing.
4) Are reservations required for activities and shows?
Shows and classes are on a first-come-first-serve basis. But places like the spa, swimming pool, jacuzzis, SportsPlex and gym require reservations.
5) Where can I get the detailed schedule?
You can check the crowd level at each restaurant!
The detailed schedule is only accessible once onboard the World Dream, via a daily newsletter called the Dream Daily. You can find it on the Dream Cruises app , physical copies delivered to your room, and on the many screens around the ship.
The Dream Cruises app
The Dream Cruises app allows you to book WiFi packages, view Dream Dining’s menu for the day, as well as the day’s highlights. Download the app before boarding!
The Dream Daily gets released at around 7PM – 11PM daily, so you’ll know what’s on the agenda for the next day.
6) WiFi on board?
WiFi packages are available via the Dream Daily app from S$9 per day. The WiFi speed was fast and reliable, I only experienced a short 10-minute disconnection during the entire cruise.
7) How do I pay for additional activities and specialty restaurants?
All payments will be charged to your room card. Payments must be settled on the World Dream app before you disembark.
8) Are the restaurants on board Halal-certified?
The World Dream is Asia Pacific’s first Halal-friendly cruise ship! Both The Lido and in-room dining services are halal-certified. Halal options are also available at Dream Dining Room Lower upon request.
9) What other facilities are there for Muslim guests?
The World Dream offers a dedicated prayer room. Prayer gowns and mats will also be provided upon request.
10) Does the ship dock anywhere? Where will we be sailing to?
No, it is a cruise to nowhere , after all. The World Dream sails along the Straits of Malacca, where the waters are calmer.
Is a Cruise to Nowhere Worth It?
The most important question of all — Yes!
If you’re willing to pay ~S$200/night for a staycation in Singapore (excluding food and activities), a cruise to nowhere is way more satisfying.
From ~ S$259/pax , you get a two-night stay with a sea view and your meals are free. Not forgetting free access to amenities like the pool, gym, waterslide park, ropes course, as well as top-tier shows and fun classes. Just the free stuff alone is enough to keep you occupied!
While some look forward to the various ports of call on pre-COVID cruises, a cruise to nowhere allows you to truly explore and enjoy the ship’s facilities. Plus, you’ll have time to try the different classes and watch all the shows!
Although we didn’t go anywhere, we still felt like we were on a holiday. Nothing like getting a text message asking you to activate your overseas data plan to get you in the vacation mood. 😂

Hi how fast the wifi? Standard package can open youtube/netflix & video call? Or need to opt for premium package? Is mobile data totally can’t be used on board?
Hi Mira! The Wifi was pretty good, and yes you can watch shows and you should be able to video call! If you use mobile data it’ll be data roaming as the ship sails to international waters.
How does the onboard wifi work? Do you have to log in to a landing page where you key in a user name and password like hotels, and can you hotspot it to your laptop or something? Thanks!
The Wifi is accessed through the Dream Cruises app. Once you’re on board (before you set sail), you’ll have to purchase the package through the app, using your own Wifi/Data in order to activate it. The app is only available on mobile thus we weren’t able to access wifi on our laptops.
Do ensure you’ve downloaded the app before boarding. Hope this helps!
hi, Kim after the cruise was there a need to be self- quarantine for a period of time?
Hi Jane! There wasn’t a need to self-quarantine after the cruise. The safe distancing measures on the ship were pretty extensive, from having to book timeslots for activities to alternate seats for movies and shows.
Thanks for this write up guys!!! Was still contemplating coz it’s still a cruise to nowhere but after reading y’all made me want to go! Awesome….. thanks
Glad you found it useful Sabrina! We had a lot of fun on our cruise — definitely a welcome break despite not actually going anywhere
after back from cruise & if fill up declaration form eg in a clinic, question on where “travel overseas”, is cruise to nowhere considered travelled overseas ?
Hi Shirley, nope it’s not!
Hi, Thank you for your reivew. It is really helpful for planning my trip. Can I check with you? Which deck did you choose during your trip? Can you choose or they choose for us? Any tips for that?
That’s great to hear! I don’t think you get to choose your deck. You select a room type and then get assigned a deck 🙂 Like how Balcony Staterooms are on decks 8-13 and 15! You can check which rooms are on each deck here: https://www.dreamcruiseline.com/world-dream-rooms
Do you have to book activities in advance ? If so, do you know how to book ?
Hi Jac! you can only book the activities using the Cruise App once you are onboard.
hi, is there a restaurant where they sell cakes? I’m going to the dream cruise on my b day

Luxury At Sea: The Palace Suite on Dream Cruises is the Ultimate Bespoke Getaway With Priority Perks and Butler Service
PUBLISHED November 17th, 2021 06:00 am | UPDATED November 24th, 2021 11:03 am
Even as travel looks set to take off in the months ahead, many of us aren’t up for the hassle and risks of jetsetting just yet. But that doesn’t mean you need to be grounded in Singapore this holiday season – we’re talking about cruise getaways, of course. For a dose of sun, sea, and sumptuous luxury, you couldn’t do better than Dream Cruises’ “ship within a ship” paradise: The Palace . Think the ultimate bespoke suite experience aboard the World Dream , which comes rigged out with thrills of all sorts: spectacular dining concepts, ziplines, and even a waterslide park!
Palatial Luxury at Sea
As the name suggests, a stay in The Palace will leave you feeling as pampered as royalty. A world away from your ordinary staterooms, this top-tier ship-within-a-ship concept spans over 140 suites across four categories (from S$699 per pax). There’s the spacious 37-square-metre Palace Suite, all the way to the Palace Villa with its 224 square metres of pure extravagance.
That’s not forgetting a slew of VIP facilities, including a private pool and spa – it’s basically your exclusive clubhouse at sea. Here’s the lowdown on the many, many perks that a stay in one of The Palace’s suites will get you on board:
The Suite Life
Each suite in The Palace is a luxe cocoon, beginning with the ‘Dream Bed’ draped in silky Italian bed linens from Frette. Start your day right with a leisurely soak in the spacious bathtub, complete with bespoke bath amenities from Etro. For breakfast, think a lazy brunch in bed delivered by your butler, as you soak up the sea breeze and glorious views on your private balcony. And if you’re splashing out for the ultra-indulgent Palace Villas, your duplex suite will come equipped with your own dedicated butler, not to mention a private sundeck with a whirlpool spa, a sauna, and up to four flat-panel TVs. In other words, it’s everything you need for personalized pampering.
24-Hour Butler Concierge Service
If your ideal vacay is one where you don’t need to lift a finger, Dream Cruises has that all settled for you. For The Palace guests, a dedicated team of Dream Butlers cares for your needs round the clock. Butlers are groomed to the standards of sister brand Crystal Cruises – known as The World’s Most Awarded Luxury Cruise Line – so you can count on some top-notch hospitality. Fancy an in-suite cocktail, a priority spa booking, or simply need your suit pressed for the night? Your butler will arrange it without breaking a sweat.
Epicurean Indulgence
Even the most jaded foodie would be tempted by World Dream ‘s impressive clutch of dining concepts. The Palace guests have access to the exclusive Palace Restaurant , which dishes up a medley of international cuisines paired with a sprawling wine list. You can also tuck into set meal entitlements at the specialty restaurants aboard World Dream , from prime cuts at Prime Steakhouse by Australian celebrity chef Mark Best to teppanyaki at Umi Uma . Did we mention there’s a Happy Hour with complimentary tipples too?
Priority Access
Forget waiting around for the fun to start. As a Palace guest, you get VIP access to facilities throughout the whole ship. Whether you want to snag a prime pool slot during sunset hour, schedule some spa pampering for the afternoon, or secure a coveted table at a specialty restaurant, it’s a breeze with priority booking for Palace guests. Did we mention you get complimentary wifi throughout your cruise too?
Can’t wait to hop aboard already? Check out this video for a sneak peek of what’s in store:
All Aboard the World Dream
One thing’s for sure: you’ll never get bored on board. Beyond The Palace’s exclusive perks, the cruise ship is packed with more than enough things to do to keep you excited on your two- to three-night stay. These are just some of the highlights:
Sky-High Thrills
If you love the thrill of heights, imagine upping the stakes with high ropes over the tossing waves. World Dream offers high ropes adventure courses on board, including a zipline suspended a dizzying 18 decks above the water and a ‘walk the plank’ challenge while swaying precariously in the sea breeze. Otherwise, try your hand at scaling the rock climbing wall with scenic views to keep you company.
Waterslide Park
If air isn’t your element, how about water? Plunge in for a splashing good time in the ship’s Waterslide Park, so named for its six adrenaline-spiking slides. Start out laidback with looping slides, then work up to steep drops that’ll have you screaming the whole way down.
Immersive Entertainment
Besides fun in the sun, you’ll also find high-tech entertainment on board in the form of Esc EXPERIENCE LAB . This virtual-reality adventure lab comes equipped with state-of-the-art simulators, motion platforms, and curved screens to plunge you into fantastical worlds. Feel your stomach turning on the Finger Coaster rollercoaster, soar through space with the Icaros flying simulator, and pit your wits in challenges like the Minotaur Maze.
Themed Experiences
World Dream keeps things exciting with a rotating lineup of themed experiences, and this festive season, they’re taking us on A Nordic Christmas Adventure . From 19 November 2021 to 1 January 2022, you can wander through a charming slice of Scandinavia with a Nordic village glittering with thousands of twinkle lights, complete with a Christmas market dishing up festive pastries.
Head over to the Nordic Art Lab to get hands-on with quirky cultural traditions, build yourself a Swedish tomte – a mischievous, gnome-like creature in Nordic folklore – or create a magical piece of scratch art inspired by the Northern Lights. Come Christmas, feast Scandinavian-style with complimentary Finnish salmon soup, saffron buns, roast turkey, and more.
The Palace Suite on World Dream is priced from S$699 per pax. UOB Cardmembers can now enjoy S$200 per pax off Palace Suites bookings with the promo code UOB 2021 . Check out more of Dream Cruises’ itineraries here .

7 amazing cruise itineraries to book in 2024
I don't know about you, but each year, as the weather turns cold, I start daydreaming about getting out of Dodge — or, in my case, Pennsylvania. My mind wanders to cruises that will take me to places where the temperature is warmer, but I also take a hard look at the (exceptionally lengthy) list of places I'm longing to visit.
After digging through what's new for 2024, I've come up with a shortlist of sailings that I think are noteworthy. They range from a standard Bahamas voyage with a new twist and an extended Alaska sailing that includes a foray across the Arctic Circle to more far-flung destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dream on, dear reader, and add these to your list of 2024 cruise itineraries.
Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Seabourn's 'Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas' itinerary
Last year, the Australia and New Zealand cruise region gained momentum following the pandemic shutdown. In 2024, the hardly populated Australia region of The Kimberley is gaining popularity. Luxury cruise brand Seabourn will be offering a series of six 10-night voyages between Broome and Darwin on expedition vessel Seabourn Pursuit during what will be early winter in the southern hemisphere.
The line's " Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas " will take passengers to places along the coast few passengers are able to visit to see the stunning teal waters and horizontal waterfalls of Talbot Bay, sample wines in the Hunter River Region and check out nature preserves in Wyndham.
Details: The first sailing, from Darwin to Broome, embarks on June 12. The final voyage, from Broome to Darwin, departs on Aug. 1. Prices start from $6,134 per person ($613 per person, per night), double occupancy, for the July 2 cruise. All accommodations are suites with balconies.
Celebrity's 'Best of Japan' and 'Vietnam and Thailand' cruises
The number of voyages in Asia was trending upward notably prior to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought cruising in the region to an extended halt. And it's once again on the rise. Following that curve, Celebrity Cruises will be running new 11- to 13-night Asia sailings in 2024 on two ships — Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice — that bring stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand.
What's notable about the offerings is that they will aim to immerse passengers further into the destinations by including overnights in a total of 11 ports across all itineraries. That means more time to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter as the sun sets, indulge in nighttime gastronomy in Hong Kong, visit one of Bangkok's many markets, or learn why Osaka is known for street food.
Details: Celebrity Millennium's " Best of Japan " cruises run from early mid-March to early October. At press time, the least expensive fares — for a 12-night sailing — start from $1,330 per person ($111 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. It travels round-trip from Yokohama and visits Hiroshima, Pusan and other ports, including Osaka, where the ship will overnight.
Celerbrity Solstice's Vietnam and Thailand cruises kick off in mid-January and run through March. The ship will resume them again in the fall of 2024 and run through the winter season. Prices start from $1,255 per person ($105 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. The voyage sails from Hong Kong to Singapore with stops in Da Nang and Koh Samui, plus overnights in Hanoi and Bangkok.
SeaDream's 'Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles' sailing
Here's one to put on your radar if you're looking to book — but not necessarily sail — in 2024. It's a new Mediterranean itinerary that doesn't start up for nearly three more years, in 2026. The SeaDream routing brings stops at seven ports that are rarely visited by cruise passengers. During the seven-night voyages, there will be calls at Primosten, Croatia; Cesme, Turkey; Cetubal, Portugal; and Kythira, Kythnos, Syvota and Tinos, Greece — making these sailings unique and well-suited to anyone who loves the region but who's looking for new places to experience.
SeaDream's small ships, each of which carries just 112 people, are able to reach locales about which passengers on megaships can only fantasize. Couple that with excellent service, and you'll be visiting the Our Lady of Loretto statue in Primosten, touring the Cesme Castle and lounging on stunning Greek beaches from a home base that puts you squarely in the lap of luxury.
Details: An itinerary that includes three of the seven new ports is the 11-night " Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles " itinerary from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, departing on Aug. 8, 2026, on SeaDream I. Prices start from $10,399 per person ($946 per person, per night) for a room with a porthole view.
Holland America's 'Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice' Legendary Voyage
Alaska is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys the vastness of untouched wilderness, the wildlife it houses and adventurous pursuits it provides. (Think whale-watching, hiking on glaciers and salmon fishing.) However, Holland America 's Westerdam is hosting a 28-day sailing that's anything but your standard cruise to the Last Frontier .
Passengers will visit the usual Alaska ports, such as Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, with scenic sailing through the Inside Passage, past Hubbard Glacier and to Glacier Bay. But they can also expect less-common stops at places like Nome, Kodiak, Anchorage (with an overnight) and Homer. Plus, about halfway through, this cruise crosses the Arctic Circle — a rite of passage for many travelers.
Details: Holland America's 28-day " Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice " cruise — one of the line's Legendary Voyages, known for longer durations and a unique mix of port calls — sails June 9-July 7, round-trip from Seattle. Inside cabins start from $5,299 per person (about $189 per person, per night).
Silversea's summertime French Polynesia cruises
Another consideration for future travel is Silversea Cruises , which is featuring its first full-summer season in French Polynesia in 2026. Silver Whisper will offer two immersive itineraries, including overnights, across 17 voyages between April and September.
Passengers can choose seven-night sailings that visit idyllic favorites like Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine and which also include overnights in Bora Bora. Or, they can cruise for twice as long by selecting a 14-night voyage that calls on the same ports as the seven-night option but with Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona and Tahuata added.
Details: Silversea's seven-night voyages begin April 6, 2026, and start from $5,650 per person ($808 per person, per night) for an ocean-view cabin.
The line's 14-night sailings start on April 20, 2026. Fares start from $10,450 per person ($747 per person, per night) for ocean-view accommodations.
New Bermuda voyages on Carnival Venezia
Beginning in May of 2025, Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Venezia will sail a series of eight four- and five-night cruises to Bermuda from New York. These itineraries are notable because the line is aiming to increase its presence there but also because the style of the ship is new to even most of the brand's most dedicated passengers.
In 2022, Carnival announced its Costa by Carnival concept after revealing it would be transferring ships from its Costa sister brand to the Carnival fleet. Now, when travelers visit the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse or check out the island's renowned pink-sand beaches during a sailing on Carnival Venezia, they can enjoy both the Italian style of the ship and Carnival's fun atmosphere and high service standards.
Details: Voyages kick off on May 22, 2025. Prices start from $429 per person ($108 per person, per night) for an inside cabin on a four-night cruise departing Sept. 18, 2025.
Disney Cruise Line's Lighthouse Point itineraries
Disney Cruise Line 's new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , a private destination on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, is set to open in June with a three-night preview sailing on June 6 aboard Disney Magic. Following the initial voyage, the line will run regular three- to seven-night voyages to Lighthouse Point on Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream.
The island will feature a dedicated family beach and water play area, an arts and culture pavilion focused on Bahamian culture, 20 family cabanas, an adults-only beach and a selection of shore excursion options.
Details: Prices for itineraries that include Lighthouse Point start from $624 per person ($208 per person, per night) for a three-night cruise on Disney Magic. The cruise departs Nov. 5 and sails from Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
