HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT TRAVEL AGENCY IN DUBAI?

Choosing the best travel agency in Dubai is essential for a smooth and enjoyable travel experience. Here are some tips to help you select the right Dubai travel agency:

  • Start by researching different travel agencies. Look for reviews and testimonials from other travelers. Online review platforms, social media and travel forums can provide insights into the experiences of previous clients.
  • Consider the agency’s experience in the travel industry. A well-established agency with a positive reputation is likely to have more expertise and resources to handle your travel needs effectively.
  • Some travel agencies specialise in specific types of travel such as luxury travel, adventure travel or group tours. Choose an agency that aligns with your travel preferences and needs.
  • Evaluate the range of services offered by the agency. Ensure they can handle all aspects of your trip, including flights, accommodations, transportation and any specific activities or tours you have in mind.
  • Pay attention to the level of customer service provided by the agency. Responsive and helpful communication is crucial, especially when dealing with unexpected issues or changes to your travel plans.
  • Look for a travel agency that is transparent about its pricing. Hidden fees and unexpected charges can be frustrating, so make sure you understand the full cost of the services you’re receiving.
  • Check if the agency provides travel insurance options or has financial protection measures in place. This can be crucial in case of unforeseen circumstances affecting your trip.

Emirates joins hands with Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism

- Emirates joins hands with Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and Association of South African Travel Agents to launch online training for travel industry professionals

Emirates, the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) and Association of South African Travel Agents (ASATA) have launched online training courses for new travel professionals to help them develop and build stronger skillsets, as well as enhance understanding around the industry’s key principles to support the wider travel and tourism sector.

Using the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism’s already established Dubai College of Tourism (DCT) online platform, travel professionals in South Africa have free access to various online courses and training resources to help them develop the essential skills required to enter the industry or expand their abilities, improve their knowledge around industry systems and processes, ultimately helping them to maximise their career potential and employability.

Courses start with the fundamentals: understanding the role of a travel agent, gaining familiarity with key industry terminology, understanding different procedures in relation to travel bookings, from the initial quotation stage through to the time of travel. Participants will explore the types of enquiries and proposals common within the industry, alongside developing the skills and knowledge required to prepare quotations, book supplier products and services and process travel related documentation.

The rich, interactive content delivered in the courses contextually use Dubai as the primary market example when explaining the skills and terms associated with the travel industry value chain. Emirates’ products and services are also utilised to simulate and explain the airline retailing journey and the fundamentals of distribution systems for travel agents. In addition to acquiring valuable industry knowledge, professionals gain extensive insight into Dubai as a destination, already a popular city for South Africans, as well as Emirates products and services.

Upon completion of the courses, participating travel professionals will receive a certificate of completion endorsed by the Association of South African Travel Agents, Emirates and the Dubai College of Tourism.

Afzal Parambil, Emirates Regional Manager for Southern Africa remarked on the airline’s role in the rollout of the new initiative: "The travel industry in South Africa is slowly regaining momentum and a key driver in building back stronger will be having the right people with the right skills for that much needed reinforcement to develop a more agile and future-proof travel sector. Emirates is proud to do our part and offer courses delivered in partnership with the Dubai College of Tourism and ASATA that will provide significant skills that meet the needs of the sector, offering recognised knowledge and qualifications to develop a solid pool of highly trained, effective travel professionals."

Essa Bin Hadher, General Manager, Dubai College of Tourism said: "Knowledge through training is critical for career development, skill enhancement, and increased employability. Dubai College of Tourism (DCT) via our online training platform is happy to play a pivotal role in meeting the aspirations of tourism professionals by offering programs meticulously tailored to the specific requirements of the industry, thereby enabling students to flourish in their working environment.’  -.

Otto de Vries, CEO, Association of Southern African Travel Agents added:  "The Association of South African Travel Agents believes that offering free online training courses to existing travel professionals will empower them with essential skills and underscores the commitment to quality education and development within the sector when it comes to selling Dubai. This initiative exemplifies how collaboration can drive progress and equip professionals with the tools to excel in a dynamic industry."

More information for travel professionals is available on the Dubai College of Tourism website: https://www.dct-online.com/courses

Emirates joins hands with Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and Association of South African Travel Agents to launch online training for travel industry professionals

Emirates joins hands with Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and Association of South African Travel Agents to launch online training for travel industry professionals

  • Free online courses aim to equip travel professionals with right skillsets and qualifications
  • Initiative aims to rebuild capacity within travel industry as it regains momentum

UAE, Dubai, 13 September 2023: Emirates, the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) and Association of South African Travel Agents (ASATA) have launched online training courses for new travel professionals to help them develop and build stronger skillsets, as well as enhance understanding around the industry’s key principles to support the wider travel and tourism sector.

Afzal Parambil, Emirates Regional Manager for Southern Africa remarked on the airline’s role in the rollout of the new initiative: “The travel industry in South Africa is slowly regaining momentum and a key driver in building back stronger will be having the right people with the right skills for that much needed reinforcement to develop a more agile and future-proof travel sector. Emirates is proud to do our part and offer courses delivered in partnership with the Dubai College of Tourism and ASATA that will provide significant skills that meet the needs of the sector, offering recognised knowledge and qualifications to develop a solid pool of highly trained, effective travel professionals.”

Essa Bin Hadher, General Manager, Dubai College of Tourism said:  “Knowledge through training is critical for career development, skill enhancement, and increased employability. Dubai College of Tourism (DCT) via our online training platform is happy to play a pivotal role in meeting the aspirations of tourism professionals by offering programs meticulously tailored to the specific requirements of the industry, thereby enabling students to flourish in their working environment.’  -.

Otto de Vries, CEO, Association of Southern African Travel Agents added:  “The Association of South African Travel Agents believes that offering free online training courses to existing travel professionals will empower them with essential skills and underscores the commitment to quality education and development within the sector when it comes to selling Dubai. This initiative exemplifies how collaboration can drive progress and equip professionals with the tools to excel in a dynamic industry.”

MATTA Fair Penang 2024 kicks off with 300 booths

G EORGE TOWN: The two-day Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair Penang 2024 has opened its doors at Setia SPICE Arena here.

Featuring some 300 booths promoting international and domestic travel packages, the event includes various offerings from the travel industry including airlines, financial institutions, travel agents, hoteliers, associations, theme parks, wellness spas and other small businesses.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who launched the event, said the influx of tourists is integral to the state's economy, providing employment opportunities, business ventures, and bolstering its overall economic growth.

"MATTA has played a pivotal role in promoting our country, particularly Penang, as a premier tourism destination.

"I am pleased to announce the maiden voyage of two prestigious cruise liners, Costa Deliziosa and Serenade of the Seas, each capable of accommodating up to 2,500 passengers.

"This significant milestone underscores the strategic importance of Penang's Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal and the allure of Penang as a tourism hub for Malaysia," he said.

Chow added that Penang's accessibility continues to expand, with direct flights from 15 international cities, including Guangzhou, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok, Phuket, Medan, Jakarta, Surabaya, Banda Acheh, Ho Chi Minh City, Doha, Haikou, and Shanghai.

"Penang boasts eight domestic flight routes, with 17 airlines operating direct flights, including MAS, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Fly Dubai, Starlux, Xiamen Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Juneyao Airlines, among others.

"As a result, the airport has recently recorded a 5% increase in passengers movement from 313,000 to 328,000 from February to March this year," he added.

MATTA Penang chapter chairman Carolyn Leong said a sales revenue of RM40mil is expected at this year's fair compared to the RM33mil recorded last year.

"MATTA is committed to aligning with the aspirations of state tourism, and we look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts in promoting tourism and cultural enrichment.

"Each year, we strive to enhance our international participation by inviting more foreign embassies to showcase their cultural richness and new destinations at the fair. This serves as a dynamic platform

for cultural exchange and exploration of exciting travel opportunities.

"In introducing our esteemed travel exhibitors, we aim to enrich the fair experience by offering additional attractions and fostering closer connections between nations," she said.

The highlight of the travel fair will be the lucky draw prizes which will see visitors winning air tickets from flydubai, Xiamen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Scoot, China Airlines, Starlux Airlines, and Air Arabia to destinations like Dubai, Xiamen, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Visitors who buy any domestic packages by securing a RM300 deposit per person will stand a chance to take part in the lucky draw to win an air ticket to a domestic destination while anyone who buys an international holiday package with a deposit of RM1,000 will be eligible to win an air ticket to an international destination.

Besides air tickets, visitors who take part in the lucky draws also stand a chance to win hotel stays, staycations, tour vouchers and admission tickets

The fair, held today and tomorrow (April 27 and 28) will be open from 10am to 9pm.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates tried to wring itself out Thursday after the heaviest recorded rainfall ever to hit the desert nation , with its main airport allowing more flights even as floodwater still covered portions of major highways and communities.

Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international travel , allowed global carriers on Thursday morning to again fly into Terminal 1 at the airfield. And long-haul carrier Emirates, crucial to East-West travel, began allowing local passengers to arrive at Terminal 3, their base of operations.

However, Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said in an interview with The Associated Press that the airfield needed at least another 24 hours to resume operations close to its usual schedule. Meanwhile, one desert community in Dubai saw floodwaters continue to rise Thursday to as much as 1 meter (3 feet) as civil defense officials struggled to pump out the water.

“We were looking at the radar thinking, ‘Goodness, if this hits, then it’s going to be cataclysmic,’” Griffiths said of the storm. “And indeed it was.”

FILE - People walk through floodwater caused by heavy rain while waiting for transportation on Sheikh Zayed Road highway in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, April 18, 2024. A new report says climate change played a role in the floods. (AP Photo/Christopher Pike, File)

The airport ended up needing 22 tankers with vacuum pumps to get water off its grounds. Griffiths acknowledged that taxiways flooded during the rains, though the airport’s runways remained free of water to safely operate. Online videos of a FlyDubai flight landing with its reverse thrust spraying out water caught the world’s attention.

“It looks dramatic, but it actually isn’t that dramatic,” Griffiths said.

Emirates, whose operations had been struggling since the storm Tuesday, had stopped travelers flying out of the UAE from checking into their flights as they tried to move out connecting passengers. Pilots and flight crews also had a hard time reaching the airport given the water on roadways.

But on Thursday, Emirates lifted that order to allow customers into the airport. That saw some 2,000 people come into Terminal 3, again sparking long lines, Griffiths said.

Others who arrived at the airport described hourslong waits to get their baggage, with some just giving up to head home or to whatever hotel would have them.

The UAE, a hereditarily ruled, autocratic nation on the Arabian Peninsula, typically sees little rainfall in its arid desert climate. However, a massive storm forecasters had been warning about for days blew through the country’s seven sheikhdoms.

By the end of Tuesday, more than 142 millimeters (5.59 inches) of rainfall had soaked Dubai over 24 hours. An average year sees 94.7 millimeters (3.73 inches) of rain at Dubai International Airport. Other areas of the country saw even more precipitation.

Meanwhile, intense floods also have struck neighboring Oman in recent days. Authorities on Thursday raised the death toll from those storms to at least 21 killed.

The UAE’s drainage systems quickly became overwhelmed Tuesday, flooding out neighborhoods, business districts and even portions of the 12-lane Sheikh Zayed Road highway running through Dubai.

The state-run WAM news agency called the rain “a historic weather event” that surpassed “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.”

In a message to the nation late Wednesday, Emirati leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi, said authorities would “quickly work on studying the condition of infrastructure throughout the UAE and to limit the damage caused.”

On Thursday, people waded through oil-slicked floodwater to reach cars earlier abandoned, checking to see if their engines still ran. Tanker trucks with vacuums began reaching some areas outside of Dubai’s downtown core for the first time as well. Schools remain closed until next week.

Authorities have offered no overall damage or injury information from the floods, which killed at least one person.

However, at least one community saw the effects of the rainfall only get worse Thursday. Mudon, a development by the state-owned Dubai Properties, saw flooding in one neighborhood reach as much as 1 meter. Civil defense workers tried to pump the water out, but it was a struggle as people waded through the floodwater.

Residents of Mudon, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity given the UAE’s strict laws governing speech, described putting together the equivalent of nearly $2,000 to get a tanker to the community Wednesday. They alleged the developers did nothing to help prior to that, even as they called and emailed. They also said a nearby sewage processing facility failed, bringing more water into their homes.

“A lot of people were in denial of how bad it was,” one homeowner said as civil defense officials waded through the water, bringing bottled water on a raft.

Dubai Holding, a state-owned company that has Dubai Properties as an arm, did not respond to questions. It’s part of a wider nexus that U.S. diplomats have called “Dubai Inc.” — all properties overseen by the city-state’s ruling family.

The flooding sparked speculation that the UAE’s aggressive campaign of cloud seeding — flying small planes through clouds dispersing chemicals aimed at getting rain to fall — may have contributed to the deluge. But experts said the storm systems that produced the rain were forecast well in advance and that cloud seeding alone would not have caused such flooding.

Scientists also say climate change is responsible for more intense and more frequent extreme storms, droughts, floods and wildfires around the world. Dubai hosted the United Nations’ COP28 climate talks just last year.

Abu Dhabi’s state-linked newspaper The National in an editorial Thursday described the heavy rains as a warning to countries in the wider Persian Gulf region to “climate-proof their futures.”

“The scale of this task is more daunting than it appears even at first glance, because such changes involve changing the urban environment of a region that for as long as it has been inhabited, has experienced little but heat and sand,” the newspaper said.
