Mackinac Island and Agawa Canyon

This was a fantastic trip. The bus ride was broken up enough to make it not seem too long. We had two coaches. Randy and Jocelyn hosted one and Wayne and Darlene hosted the other. We even had Mike McMullin on board to play his guitar and sing. The Island tour went off beautifully even though we had a little rain but the skies turned blue for our day in the Agawa Canyon. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has not seen these two amazing attractions.

Agree wholeheartedly with last reviewer. Lionel is superb and we actually upgraded from the two to the four hour tour so that we could make the most of our afternoon. Passionate and knowledgeable Lionel is the perfect tour guide and we would highly recommend him. Thank you for a memorable afternoon.

Thank you for your very positive commentary. I am glad to hear you did not regret having extended joining the tour for two more hours.

My wife and I came to Ieper specifically to do a tour of some World War I battlefields and monuments. We booked Frontline Tours with Lionel last minute, after a prearranged tour we'd booked a month and a half earlier fell through that morning. Lionel helped save our trip to Ieper for which we thank him very much. We did a morning tour for two hours to Hill 60 and the Bayernwald Trench and then an afternoon tour for four hours where we visited the northern part of the Salient and Passchendaele. This included Allied and German Cemeteries including the Tyne Cot Cemetery which is the largest Commonwealth WW1 Cemetery in Europe. Lionel was extremely informative and was also a very engaging storyteller. He really brought home the impact that the Great War had, and is still having on this region. His tours were limited to about seven people at a time, which was good as it meant that it wasn't crowded and you could easily ask question and hear what he was talking about. He speaks English very well and the pick up is very convenient - for us is was just outside of the Cloth Hall in the centre of town which was easy to walk to. Whether you are a historian or someone who does not have much knowledge of WW1 history, you are bound to get something out of this tour.

Thank you for your generous comment. It is always a special pleasure to be able to help someone 'stuck' and to show you around the many historical sites of WW1 and letting you 'meet' the soldiers and locals who went through it at the time.

Lionel was very knowledgable and seemed to be really interested in WWI. A very captivating tour guide. He should be brought into the school system as part of the curriculum. He really brought history to life and seemed to enjoy imparting his knowledge. Would definitely go with him again. The only issue I noticed was that the tour wasn't set to particular areas but rather, he asked where we would like to go as a group. Being of different nationalities and strangers, it was hard to decide. I would have liked it more if it had been a set list of areas. As well, no bathroom breaks. Lionel made many stops at points of interest to talk about out events that occurred there. A good and educational tour. Would go with him again for a different tour.

Thank you for your very positive comments. And a special thanks for your very careful remarks. The toilet breaks are indeed a problem. In the countryside we are driving through, there are not that many opportunities. Especially in first part of the the tour of the Northern Salient. Indeed the tour itinerary can be a bit tricky when sometimes people want to see certain particular spots. But thank you again for the remarks, I will certainly take them at heart.

Lionel gave myself and 2 friends (and 2 others) an excellent tour of the northern part of the salient. I learned a fair bit despite being already well-read on the Great War. He certainly knows his stuff and gave a clear summary of the development of the salient and put the whole thing in context during the tour. Much clearer on the significance of the low hills around Ieper and the relationship of the famous sites now. Well worth it.

It is always a special pleasure to read that someone who knows a lot of WW1 is satisfied with the tour. Indeed the importance of the hills around Ypres cannot be overestimated.

Lionel guided myself and my (adult) son on a recent trip timed to coincide with 100th anniversary of the first battles of the BEF. For 6 hours he took us round the Ypres salient and made history come alive. His knowledge and descriptions brought home what it must have been like to endure for so long and his knowledge of the battlefield topography made clear why the fighting was so intense and prolonged. He was terrific. Very efficient, very punctual, comfortable vehicle and a really nice bloke as well as a good guide. If you go to Ypres, get a guide, if you get a guide, get Lionel from Frontline Tours.

That was a 'terrific' comment! Thank you for your generosity.

Evnroll 2023 V-Series putters

frontline tours for 2023

Evnroll 2023 V-Series Putters

Evnroll’s first rolled out the V-Series in 2021. The key enhancement for the ’23 line is the addition of interchangeable weights (so you toy with the moment of inertia and center of gravity) and also three different hosel options: long, mid and short, each of which is designed to help golfers with specific miss types. The putters also promise better accuracy and tighter dispersion by way of Evnroll’s patented face groove technology. These putters are all about customization. Golfers can adjust toe hang and offset to suit their strokes and — with the weights and hosel choices — dial in their preferred swing weight and stroke preference. Models include Evnroll EV2, Evnroll EV8, Evnroll EV2, Evnroll ZERO Z.1, Envroll EV5.1/EV5.2/EV5.3, and Evnroll EV12.

Odyssey White Hot Versa and Tri-Hot 5K putters

frontline tours for 2023

Ten years after its initial launch, Odyssey is reintroducing its extremely easy-to-align Versa putter series to help golfers aim betters and make more putts. Let’s be honest, putting is hard, and the one thing most golfers struggle with on the greens is alignment — which is where the high contrast alignment technology of the Versa line helps golfers find the proper face angle at address. The Tri-Hot 5K putters have a milled front section made of 303 stainless steel, a back section made of lightweight 6061 aircraft grade aluminum, and heavy Tungsten weights sandwiched between in the toe and heel sections. The design helps move center of gravity (CG) forward and establishes higher MOI (moment of inertia) in the blade-style putters. Models include Odyssey White Hot Versa One, Odyssey White Hot Versa Double Wide, Odyssey White Hot Versa Three T, Odyssey White Hot Versa Seven and Odyssey White Hot Versa Twelve.

Ping 2022 putters

Ping 2022 Putters

Unlike the Tour-inspired PLD, the Ping 2022 putters were initially created with the consumer in mind. With the focus placed squarely on the consumer, Ping sought to include myriad of head, face and alignment options to capture every conceivable player preference with distinctly different feels and looks. Offered in 10 different models, the 2022 putters, as Goodwin said, as really “a line within a line.” For example, several new models on the mallet and blade side (DS72, Prime Tyne 4, Shea, Tomcat 14) feature a color blocking scheme where a platinum topline contrasts with a black cavity, moving the focus to the front of the putter for better aiming. For golfers who don’t want the contrasting colors, all-black versions can be found in the Tyne G and Mundy. Models include Ping Anser, Ping Anser 2D, Ping Kushin 4, Ping DS72, Ping DS72 C, Ping DS72 Armlock, Ping Shea, Ping Mundy, Ping Prime Tyne 4, Ping Tomcat 14 and Ping Tyne G.

TaylorMade GT Max and GTX putters

TaylorMade GT Max and GTX Putters

And 2023 marks another year of Spider innovation with the launch of the Spider GTX and GT Max models, with the GTX bringing together well-known Spider technology, and the GT Max offering something that TaylorMade championed in drivers almost 20 years ago — moveable weight. The Spider GTX offers proven TaylorMade putter technologies including True Path and Pure Roll combined with a deep center of gravity made possible thanks to a heavy — 154g, to be precise — stability bar at the rear of the putter to create the signature Spider look. Just like with a driver, the adjustable weight of the Spider GT Max helps change the closure rate of the club head during the golf swing — the only difference is in this case we’re talking about a putting stroke, not a driver swing. This change is created by moving the center of gravity closer to or away from the face, which also results in adjusting the toe hang.

Titleist Scotty Cameron Super Select putters

frontline tours for 2023

Above all, Scotty Cameron’s 2023 Super Select line is a reminder that the putter designer listens. Golfers have been clamoring for simple, industrial looks — and that’s exactly what they’re getting with Cameron’s first release of the year. Paint fill is almost non-existent on Super Select to give it a clean look. But there’s a design benefit as well. Cameron wanted to save weight from certain areas on the head, so he took weight out of places like the neck and bombs in the cavity to net around 10 grams of discretionary weight that was placed between the heel-toe weights. Models include Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport, Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport Plus, Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2, Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2 Plus, Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2.5 plus, Scotty Cameron Super Select Squareback 2.

In photos: Zelensky visits frontline troops in eastern Ukraine after Putin's trip to occupied Kherson

From CNN Digital’s Photo team

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited frontline troops in the hard-hit eastern town of Avdiivka, according to the president's office .

Zelensky was briefed by the commander of the regional operational-tactical group and spoke with the service members.

The Ukrainian leader also handed out military awards and, in turn, was presented with insignia from the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

Zelensky's trip to the beleaguered town comes hours after President Vladimir Putin visited troops at a military base in Russian-occupied Kherson , in southern Ukraine.

Here are some photos from Zelensky's trip to the front lines:

Russia is "going backwards" in equipment and deploying post WWII-era tanks, according to Western officials

From CNN’s Vasco Cotovio and Max Foster

A Ukrainian service member drives a captured Russian T-72 tank in Lukianivka, Ukraine, in March 2022.

Russia is "going backwards" with the equipment it is using in Ukraine, Western officials said, explaining they’ve seen Moscow deploy tanks originally built after World War II while it struggles to replenish stocks of lost armored vehicles.

Officials said during a briefing on Tuesday they hadn't seen "a large uptick in increasing equipment."

"If anything, the equipment they [the Russians] are using is older generation," they said, adding Moscow had been increasingly relying on older models of tanks in the war.

"They started with the T-80 and T-90 [tanks], went down to T-72, and indeed, we saw the first T-55s rolled out of the refurbishment to be put into battle and the same picture across artillery pieces as well," the officials said.

The T-90 was first introduced in 1992, the T-80 in 1976, while the T-72 came into service in 1972 and the T-55 after World War II in 1948.

The officials also said Russia was still struggling with manpower, explaining that despite being able to muster large numbers of personnel, Moscow was still not providing them with adequate training.

“We've seen two quite relatively small training cycles go through Belarus, but out of a force of 150,000 which they claimed were mobilized, we've probably seen maybe 15,000 which have gone for any kind of company level training,” the officials said. “That's where we see the Russian force at the moment; it’s been degraded from the force that originally went into Ukraine.”

Switzerland "cannot be asked to break our own laws" by re-exporting weapons to Ukraine, president says

From CNN's Inke Kappeler in Berlin and Jessie Gretener in London

Alain Berset, President of the Swiss Confederation, gives a press conference at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin, Germany, on April 18.

Switzerland "cannot be asked to break our own laws," the country's president Alain Berset said when discussing whether Swiss weapons could be re-exported to Ukraine.

Berset addressed the issue of neutrality at a joint press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Berset said that, while discussions are ongoing regarding whether the country "should, must or could develop" its stance on re-exporting weapons to Ukraine, it is currently out of the question, with Swiss law "clear on that."

Key background: Switzerland has been a neutral country since 1815, with its legal framework ensuring it does not send weapons directly or indirectly to belligerent states. Since Russia’s war on Ukraine began, the country has faced increasing pressure from its European neighbors to approve the re-exportation of weapons to Ukraine.

Switzerland did, however, break its neutrality status quo shortly after the war began by adopting European Union sanctions in March 2022. Berset said Switzerland is taking the implementation of these sanctions seriously and is "doing everything that can be done in order to enforce them."

US leaks have had no impact on Ukraine battlefield, Western officials say

From CNN’s Vasco Cotovio and Max Foster in London

The US intelligence documents leaked over the past few weeks have had no visible impact on the battlefield in Ukraine, Western officials say.

“We haven't seen any change in the battlefield,” the officials told CNN during a briefing on Tuesday.

The officials declined to comment on the content of the leaked documents.

What's in the documents: Several of the documents, which US officials say are authentic, disclose the extent of US eavesdropping on Ukraine among other key allies. Others divulge significant weaknesses in Ukrainian weaponry, air defense, and battalion sizes and readiness at a critical point in the war, as Ukrainian forces prepare to launch a counteroffensive against the Russian. Ukraine has already altered some of its military plans because of the leak, a source close to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told CNN.

Zelensky visits front lines in beleaguered town of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine

From CNN's Olga Voitovych and Tim Lister

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky visits the front line in Avdiivka, Donetsk region, Ukraine, on April 18.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the frontline town of Avdiivka, which is surrounded on three sides by Russian forces, according to the president’s office.

Zelensky's office said that he listened to the report of the commander of the Donetsk operational-tactical group and talked with the servicemen of the Marines, airborne assault, mechanized and artillery units.

According to his office, Zelensky told the soldiers:

"I have the honor to be here today, to thank you for your service, for defending our land, Ukraine, our families. Congratulations on the holidays, on Easter, I wish you only victory — this is what I wish for every Ukrainian, this is what is very important to all of us. I wish good health to all of you and your families, and I am sincerely grateful on behalf of every Ukrainian for the great path that you overcome every day."

Zelensky handed out military awards and, in turn, was presented with insignia from the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

Zelensky also visited a hospital in the Donetsk region where Ukrainian soldiers are being treated and awarded medals to the injured troops.

Current status of Avdiivka: The town has seen intense fighting for months and is largely destroyed, although about 1,800 civilians still remain despite efforts to persuade them to leave.

There are no safe routes out of the town, but Ukrainian forces still control the routes to the west.

The town is under fire almost daily by Russian artillery, but Ukrainian defenses have largely held, despite marginal Russian advances to the north.

Wall Street Journal reporter's legal team had offered bail of $613,000 — but it was denied

From Anna Chernova

The legal team for jailed Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich says it offered bail amounting to about US $613,000 to the court to release the reporter from detention. The court denied bail.

"We suggested that the court consider the choice of preventive measures not related to isolation from society, including house arrest, since Evan has a registration in the territory of Moscow; or a ban on certain actions; or a bail in the amount of 50 million rubles ($612,000)," Maria Korchagina said. "Dow Jones, the owner of the WSJ, provided a letter of guarantee that if Evan is released from custody, they are ready to provide bail in the amount of 50 million rubles. But our request was denied," she added.

When his decision was being read out in court, Gershkovich told the judge that he did not need the decision translated into English, “No no, I don’t need translation.”

Gershkovich is a bilingual Russian-English speaker.

The Moscow City Court also published an official statement on the decision.

“On April 18, 2023, the Moscow City Court upheld the decision of the Lefortovsky District Court of Moscow dated March 30, 2023 against Evan Gershkovich, who is suspected of committing a crime under Art. 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” it said.

US ambassador to Russia calls on Moscow to immediately release WSJ reporter

From CNN's Stephanie Halasz

US Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy waits in a hall of the Moscow City Court prior to a hearing to consider an appeal on the arrest of US journalist Evan Gershkovich in Moscow, Russia, on April 18.

After a Moscow City Court decided to uphold the terms of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich 's detention, US Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy called the charges "baseless" and urged Russia to "immediately release him.”

Tracy also said that she visited Gershkovich in prison yesterday and that he remains strong and is in good health.

Gershkovich was detained in late March and  formally charged with espionage . The US State Department has officially designated him as wrongfully detained by Russia.

Moscow City Court denies Gershkovich appeal

From CNN's Stephanie Halasz and Anna Chernova

Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich stands in a glass cage in a courtroom at the Moscow City Court, in Moscow, Russia, on April 18.

The Moscow City Court has decided to uphold the terms of the detention of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.

The US citizen appeared at the hearing on Tuesday to appeal the terms of his detention.

Gershkovich asked that his pre-trial detention be under house arrest rather than in jail.

"On April 18, 2023, the Moscow City Court upheld the decision of the Lefortovsky District Court of Moscow dated March 30, 2023 against Evan Gershkovich, who is suspected of committing a crime under Art. 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation," according to an official statement from the court.

US ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy said she spoke to Gershkovich on Monday, and he remains strong and is in good health.

“The charges against Evan are baseless, and we call on the Russian Federation to immediately release him,” she said, speaking after the court made its ruling on Tuesday.

Lawyer for Gershkovich plans further appeal: Tatyana Nozkhkina, a lawyer for Gershkovich, told journalists outside the court that his team would continue to appeal.

“Most of you were present at the concluding part, and you saw that our appeal was denied, and, accordingly, for the time being, Evan will be staying in the pre-trial detention center," she said. "We will continue to further appeal this measure of restraint.”

The next hearing is scheduled for the end of May, Nozkhina said, when the court will decide whether to extend his detention.

Nozkhina said that Gershkovich is keeping in good spirits and reading Russian classic novels, as well as watching cooking shows on TV and exercising.

“He does not complain,” she said.

By the numbers: Statistics confirm Scottie Scheffler's historical dominance

Change Text Size

Is impending fatherhood the only thing stopping Scottie Scheffler? Quite possibly.

His historic run continued Monday when he completed his victory at the RBC Heritage. It was his fourth win in his past five starts, a run that also included victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, THE PLAYERS Championship and the Masters. The only exception was a runner-up finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, where he missed a 6-footer to join Stephan Jaeger in a playoff.

Scottie Scheffler’s Round 4 highlights From RBC Heritage

Scheffler has seemed invincible lately, and the statistics confirm that. Here’s a closer look at some of the key stats that put Scheffler’s historic play into perspective:

  • By winning at Harbour Town Golf Links, Scheffler became the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the RBC Heritage one week after winning the Masters .
  • Scheffler is the first player since Tiger Woods in 2006 to win the week after winning a major .
  • With four wins and a runner-up in his past five starts, Scheffler is the first player since Woods in 2007-08 to have five consecutive top-two finishes . Vijay Singh is the only other player to have such a run in the past 30 years (2004).
  • This was Scheffler’s 10th PGA TOUR victory, coming in just his 51st start since he earned his first win at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open. Only David Duval has needed fewer starts after his first win to reach victory No. 10. Duval did it in 33 starts. Tiger Woods is third on the list with 59 starts.
  • In his 51 starts since the 2022 WM Phoenix Open, Scheffler also has 23 top-three finishes (45%) and 35 top-10s (68.6%).
  • All 10 of Scheffler’s wins have come since the start of the 2021-22 season. He is the first player to win 10 (or more) times on the PGA TOUR in the span of three seasons since Dustin Johnson won 10 titles between 2015-16 and 2017-18.
  • This is Scheffler’s fourth win of the season, matching his career-high from 2022. He is the fourth player with multiple four-win seasons since the start of 2000 , joining Woods (10), Singh, (3) and Phil Mickelson (2).
  • Scheffler has now recorded 40 consecutive TOUR rounds at par or better , a streak that began in the final round of the 2023 TOUR Championship. He’s 12 back of Woods’ all-time TOUR mark of 52 straight rounds at par or better (set across 2000-01).
  • In each of Scheffler’s last seven victories, eight or more of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking have been in the field . His most recent run of four wins in five starts has included two Signature Events (Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, RBC Heritage), THE PLAYERS and the Masters.
  • Scheffler is averaging 5.38 birdies per round this season, on pace to set the all-time TOUR record for single-season birdie average (since the statistic was first tracked in 1980) . Woods set the current record (4.92) in 2020.
  • In his 39 rounds this season, he has outperformed the field average 35 times . He’s been at least a shot better than the field 30 times, at least two shots better 26 times and at least three shots better 19 times.
  • Scheffler leads the TOUR in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green by nearly a shot per round this season , after finishing atop the category by more than two-thirds of a stroke per round last season. No player had previously led the category by more than four-tenths of a stroke per round since Woods in 2009.

Americans who have traveled internationally stand out in their views and knowledge of foreign affairs

Do people who travel think differently about the world? A new Pew Research Center survey suggests they do.

Americans who have traveled internationally are more interested in and knowledgeable about foreign affairs, feel closer to others around the world, and favor a more active foreign policy, according to the survey of 3,576 U.S. adults conducted in spring 2023. We also surveyed people in 23 other countries about their international travel habits.

This analysis examines international travel with a focus on Americans’ travel, including which Americans travel abroad and how their interest in the world and views of international affairs differ from others.

For this analysis, we surveyed 3,576 U.S. adults from March 20 to March 26, 2023; 3,581 U.S. adults from March 21 to March 27, 2022; and 10,606 U.S. adults from June 14 to June 27, 2021. Everyone who took part in these surveys is a member of the Center’s American Trends Panel (ATP), an online survey panel that is recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses. This way nearly all U.S. adults have a chance of selection. The survey is weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education and other categories. Read more about the ATP’s methodology .

For non-U.S. data, this report draws on nationally representative surveys of 27,285 adults conducted from Feb. 20 to May 22, 2023. All surveys were conducted over the phone with adults in Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Surveys were conducted face-to-face in Hungary, Poland, India, Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. In Australia, we used a mixed-mode probability-based online panel.

Here are the June 2021 survey questions and responses used in this analysis. Those for the March 2022 survey may be found here , as well as those for the March 2023 survey .

How many Americans have traveled internationally?

Roughly three-quarters of Americans (76%) have visited at least one other country, including 26% who have been to five or more. About a quarter (23%) have not traveled internationally, though most in this group say they would if they had the opportunity.

Related:  How experience with international travel varies across 24 countries

To analyze how Americans’ travel experiences relate to their attitudes on other questions, we placed people into three categories:

  • Globe-trotters have traveled to at least five other countries. About a quarter of the U.S. public (26%) falls into this category.
  • Casual travelers have traveled to between one and four other countries. Half of Americans fall into this category.
  • Nontravelers have never left the United States. This category includes 23% of Americans.

Compared with Americans, people in many European nations are more likely to have traveled to five or more other countries. For instance, 88% of Swedes have done so.

A map showing that Americans are less likely than Europeans to have visited 5 or more countries.

However, international travel is much less common in many middle-income nations. It is strongly correlated with a nation’s gross domestic product per capita. (For more on international travel and views about global engagement, read “Attitudes on an Interconnected World.” )

Who travels internationally?

A horizontal stacked bar chart showing that U.S. ‘globe-trotters’ are more likely to be older, have higher incomes and more education.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, older people are more likely than younger people to have traveled internationally. Americans ages 65 and older are more than twice as likely as adults under 30 to fall into our globe-trotter category (37% vs. 17%).

Income is even more strongly related to travel than age. Two-thirds of upper-income Americans have traveled to at least five countries, compared with 9% of Americans with lower incomes.

Similarly, Americans with a postgraduate degree are far more likely to be globe-trotters than those with a high school education or less (59% vs. 10%).

Residents of suburban and urban areas generally have more international travel experience than people who live in rural areas.

There are no significant partisan differences when it comes to international travel: 26% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents qualify as globe-trotters, as do 28% of Republicans and GOP leaners.

Do travelers know more about the world?

A bar chart showing that Americans who’ve traveled widely abroad have greater interest in foreign affairs.

Globe-trotters are especially likely to say they are interested in foreign affairs and follow international news. Casual travelers, in turn, are more likely than nontravelers to do so.

Globe-trotters are also the most knowledgeable about international affairs. In 2022, we conducted an international affairs quiz , asking Americans 12 questions related to international news. On average, globe-trotters got 8.2 of the 12 questions correct, compared with 6.4 for casual travelers and 4.2 for nontravelers.

Is international travel related to views of global engagement?

A bar chart showing that ‘globe-trotters’ prioritize U.S. engagement in world affairs and value compromise with other countries.

International travel experience is also linked to Americans’ views about international affairs and their feelings of connection to other people around the world.

When asked which comes closest to their view, 57% of globe-trotters say the U.S. should be active in world affairs, while 43% say the U.S. should pay less attention to problems in other countries and concentrate on problems at home. In contrast, most casual travelers and nontravelers say the U.S. should focus on problems at home.

In all three groups, at least half of respondents say that when the U.S. is making foreign policy, it should take other countries’ interests into account – even if that means making compromises. But globe-trotters are especially likely to hold that view.

Globe-trotters are also particularly likely to say they feel close to people around the world, with 42% saying so. By comparison, 34% of casual travelers and 30% of nontravelers say this.

The use of instruments to create industrial sounds is something that I find incredibly interesting and a great skill, and watching Front Line Assembly construct this music for a live audience was incredible. They have such a unique sound, where they play sample pads, incorporate elements of Electronic Body Music, and vocals to create their sound. Although the members of the band have changed extensively over the years, their sound maintains it’s fresh and intended original quality. The difference seeing them live to other electronic groups, is that they actually play instruments on stage rather than solely DJ-ing. They manipulate their synth, sample pad, and kaoss pad to create their desired sounds. Bill Leeb absolutely rocked it on the drums throughout the show, and was great at keeping the band together as a unit.

They were great at getting the audience hyped up and on their side, and Rhs Fuulber kept shouting out for everyone to dance and join in with the lyrical sections of their set. They were great performers as well as musicians, and it was evident that they were totally invested in every second of their show.

They had a forgettable opening act. Typical synths, samples, and e-drums done industrial.

Cubanate...underwhelming. I'm a guitar geek and the guitar was so far back in the mix as to be inconsequential. Basically, whoever was running the sound board did them no justice.

Front Line Assembly: What should have been the highlight of the night turned out to be a Meh. They played a bunch of their known songs, but they sounded exactly like the album versions. They just didn't connect with me and I'm a FLA fan.

It was an OK show that had originally been scheduled for the same day in Atlanta, but after we'd bought tickets to the ATL show they scheduled Tampa for the same day. I'll skip commenting on wrangling with the venues and Ticketmaster and close with the fact that I'm glad the show was in Tampa, because if we'd had to go through the hassle and expense of going to ATL for what we got in Tampa... This review wouldn't be so charitable.

Front Line Assembly will blow your mind. Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM_DokBt0rk

They are straight from Canada and have been around for a while in various forms - It all started with the conception of band, "Skinny Puppy". Most of us have heard the song, "Gonja" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRPO5Gzbx-M

Skinny has since morphed into other experiments, with other members too numerous to list.

They are awesome live!!!!

See you in Germany!

Great concert, but as it was their 30th anniversary as a band, I wish they have played more older stuff from their big backcatalouge. But as they played Mental Distortion and Millennium, they are forgiven :-)

Adopt a Highway volunteers remove 42,100 bags of trash from highways in 2023

More than 900 sections of Minnesota highway currently available for adoption statewide ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation thanks the thousands of Adopt a Highway volunteers who help us keep Minnesota roadsides clean and free of litter each year and we invite more people to join this important program.

During 2023, Adopt a Highway volunteers removed more than 42,100 bags of trash from Minnesota highways and rest areas. MnDOT currently works with 2,021 volunteer groups statewide, collectively those groups volunteered almost 100,000 hours to pick up litter for the program. With at least 900 sections currently available for adoption across Minnesota, MnDOT welcomes more groups to volunteer.

Groups who want to volunteer should visit MnDOT’s Adopt a Highway website to connect with their local program coordinator. Volunteers are asked to commit to the Adopt a Highway program for at least two years and should pick up litter from both sides of their roadway section at least twice a year. The average length of an adopted roadway is about two miles. MnDOT posts signs along the adopted segments to recognize the name of volunteer groups.

There are also opportunities to pick-up litter at certain rest areas, or sign-up for a one-day Pick a Highway event.

MnDOT does provide safety information, trash bags and safety vests to every volunteer. Our maintenance crews will pick up the filled bags of trash that volunteers leave along the side of the road. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, move over and use caution whenever they see an Adopt a Highway volunteer group or maintenance crew picking up trash along the roadway.

The Adopt a Highway program has been part of MnDOT’s maintenance operations since 1990.

The 8 best neck pillows for travel.

Avoid a literal pain in the neck with these expert-approved travel pillows.

The Best Neck Pillows for Travel

Woman using red Cabeau Evolution S3 Travel Pillow in window seat of plane.

Courtesy of Cabeau

The Cabeau Evolution S3 Travel Pillow is one of the best neck pillows for travel.

Just like the pillow you use at home , the best neck pillow for travel is the one that makes you feel most comfortable, allowing you to relax, rest and ultimately fall asleep on the go. The difference, however, is that a travel pillow is typically used when sitting up, which means it needs to provide enough support to keep your head from bobbing.

Based on recommendations from travel experts and advice from physicians, these are the best neck pillows for travel.

Best Overall: Cabeau Evolution S3

Best affordable: mvloc travel pillow, best for long flights: trtl travel pillow, best multipurpose: huzi infinity pillow, best inflatable: sunany inflatable travel pillow, best silk: slip jet setter travel pillow, best for backpacking: marchway ultralight inflatable camping pillow, best for kids: bcozzy double support neck pillow.

Cabeau Evolution S3 Travel Pillow in gray and infographic against white background.

Frequent travelers praise the design of the Cabeau Evolution S3, which is made of a special dual-density memory foam. "My pillow at home is made with memory foam so it's like bringing a piece of home on my travels," says travel blogger Jasmine Cheng of The Wandering Girl . "The sides are also raised, which prevents my head from moving when I'm sleeping." Travelers also appreciate the patented seat strap system that attaches the pillow to a seat or chair headrest as well as the slim flattened back, both of which prevent the head from bobbing.

A handy storage pouch on the side of the pillow allows you to keep your earbuds or other small items close by, and the pillow comes with a clasp that attaches to carry-on luggage . The removable pillow cover, which comes in a variety of colors, is machine-washable. What's more, this travel pillow can be stored in an included carry bag that condenses it to half its size.

Travelers appreciate the support (and the price tag) of this memory foam travel pillow. An adjustable rope lock allows you to secure the pillow to your neck for maximum support and comfort. The breathable and machine-washable cloth exterior prevents overheating. This travel pillow also comes with earplugs and an eye mask for ultimate relaxation.

The patented design of the Trtl Travel Pillow – with a hidden internal neck support surrounded by soft, hypoallergenic fleece – makes it a favorite among travelers, particularly for long flights. "Something about it just hits right in a travel accessory category where nothing previously worked for me," explains Meaghan Clawsie, luxury travel advisor at Elated Escapes . "I no longer have any back or neck pain when resting on long-haul flights." Simply wrap the pillow around your neck like a scarf, secure it in place with its built-in fastener and rest your head on the support.

If you tend to overheat easily, there's also the Trtl Pillow Cool , made with Tencel fibers to keep you at a comfortable temperature; a mesh panel makes the pillow particularly breathable as well. Both pillows are machine-washable.

Twisted Huzi Infinity Pillow in blue against cream background.

If you're not sold on the classic U-shaped neck pillows for travel, consider this snake-like option instead. Able to be twisted into a variety of positions, the versatile Huzi Infinity Pillow provides whatever support feels best – even if that means resting your head on the tray table for a bit. You can also wear it around your neck like a scarf for neck and back comfort (even when you're not snoozing), use it as an eye mask, or drape it over your head if you get cold or want to block out noise.

Travelers love the pillow's bamboo fabric, describing it as soft, smooth and cool. Since it's filled with polyester, the whole pillow can be tossed in the washing machine , unlike its memory foam counterparts. The Infinity Pillow is available in nearly a dozen different colors, including gray, navy and pink.

Sunany Inflatable Travel Pillow in blue against white background.

Travelers love the H-shaped design of this inflatable pillow because it allows for use in multiple directions and supports both sides of the head and neck with a flat back. A removable hood on the pillow is a bonus: It encourages a cozy feel and prevents cold drafts from too much air conditioning. For optimal comfort, it is recommended to inflate the pillow about 80% to 90%.

A pocket for your earbud case on this travel pillow provides convenient access for listening to music, and the removable velour cover is machine-washable. The lightweight inflatable pillow can be stored in the included waterproof drawstring bag, which can also be attached to luggage. This travel neck pillow is available in black, gray and blue.

Travel pillows don't get softer than this luxurious new option by Slip. The Jet Setter Travel Pillow is made with the highest-grade long fiber mulberry silk, which helps to prevent skin creases and bedhead. It also comes with a carrying case with handles. The Jet Setter Travel Pillow is available in three prints and a pretty solid blush color.

While you can often bring your pillow from home for tent camping, backpacking requires something more lightweight, such as this inflatable option by Marchway. "An inflatable pillow is a game-changer when it comes to backpacking, and an ultralight pillow can't be beat," says Leilani Osmundson , digital producer for travel at U.S. News. "The Marchway pillow fits the bill: It's comfortable, packable and extremely lightweight." This pillow is designed for both back and side sleepers, and doubles as a lumbar support for everyday travels and needs. Once it's deflated, you can machine-wash the cover before folding the pillow into an included drawstring bag.

BCOZZY Double Support Neck Pillow in pink with blue hearts design against white background.

The BCOZZY neck pillow is ideal for all travelers – including kids, with small sizes for youngsters between 3 and 7 years old, and medium options for ages 8 and 12. Travelers like the ergonomic design of the patented pillow, which supports the head and neck by propping the chin up. Overlapping pillow arms, which wrap around the neck and under the chin, can be tightened based on the level of support you need.

If you or your child is a side sleeper, fold the pillow in half, double up the sides and place it on your shoulder, leaning your head to the side. An elevated side option allows you to overlap the pillow arms on top of each other and rotate it 90 degrees to the side for double support for the neck and chin.

This travel pillow is available in a variety of colors and patterns, including light blue and pink hearts. A snap strap attaches the included travel bag to your child's luggage , and you can throw the pillow in the washing machine after your trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Experts agree a supportive pillow is essential for travel. "The biggest issue many travelers experience when sleeping on a plane is that the seats don't recline enough," explains Dr. Alex Dimitriu, a sleep/wake and performance specialist who is dual board certified in psychiatry and sleep medicine. "This often results in the head being just on the brink of tipping forward – which is not a comfortable sleeping position. Because of this insufficient recline, it is important to keep padding behind the head and neck minimal to reduce the tendency for the head to tip forward."

Most travel pillows are designed to be worn around the neck, providing enough support to prevent the head from tipping forward.

When shopping for a neck pillow for travel, experts recommend considering the following factors:

Proper head support:  What's most important is ensuring your head is supported in the right places by your travel pillow – and, in particular, not being pushed forward by excessive padding. "A good pillow would provide support for side sleeping, rather than a lot of padding behind the head, which just pushes the head forward too much," says Dimitriu.

Material: Consider both the external and internal material of the pillow:

External: Chiropractic physician Eric Smith advises to make sure the material of your travel pillow is breathable and won't subject you to an overheated sleep, since one of the main reasons for moving around a lot as you sleep is getting too hot. "When your face gets too hot on one side, even if you're sleeping, you're going to move from it because it's too warm," Smith explains.

There's no real consensus on which material is best for a cool, comfy sleep – and different people will have different preferences – so Smith's advice is to try before you fly (and don't hesitate to request a refund if your chosen pillow isn't working out).

  • Internal: Memory foam pillows tend to offer more firm support – something Smith recommends for anyone, but especially older travelers. "The majority of patients I have that get older, we actually need a more firm pillow, we need a more firm bed, we need more support," Smith says. Pillows filled with microbeads mold more to the neck and head, while inflatable pillows can be adjusted to your preferences based on how much air you use to blow them up.

A travel pillow for your neck isn't considered a carry-on or personal item (and the same generally goes for small, loose items like jackets and umbrellas). That said, it's always best to review your airline's carry-on luggage size restrictions before traveling.

A good neck pillow for travel isn't the only key to achieving a decent sleep while in transit. "From the standpoint of evolution, we're kind of hardwired to be a little bit more on high alert in those situations," explains Rebecca Robbins, an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and scientist at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital. "We're a little bit more in fight or flight mode; our brain is subconsciously scanning the environment for threats and there are new sounds and new smells."

She recommends finding elements that are relaxing to you, which might include some of the following:

  • Travel blanket: Look for something lightweight, such as the EverSnug Travel Blanket on Amazon. This blanket comes with a carrying case, which can double as a pillow when the blanket is stored inside.
  • Essential or aromatherapy oils: Scents like lavender and peppermint can be especially calming.
  • Earplugs: Choose headphones that block some or all external noise. The Bose QuietComfort 45 Wireless Headphones are especially well rated.
  • White noise app: There are a variety of free apps, or you can try a paid option like Calm (which offers a free trial).
  • Eye mask: An eye mask like this cotton option on Amazon helps to block out the bright light on planes.
