Just not the thrill of jungle and wildlife, Jaldapara boasts of extremely rich and diverse vegetation, flora and fauna. The excitement of venturing deep into the jungle, spotting wild animals and large varieties of birds, of finding different forest types under the same area accounts for the popularity of Jaldapara as a travel destination. It lies in close proximity to the tea gardens of Dooars which acts as an added incentive. Wildlife enthusiasts and photographers, bird lovers, those interested in the study of flora and fauna and tea enthusiasts all find something of interest here. Here is a snippet of travel guide to see in Jaldapara National Park.

How to Reach

How to Reach: Jaldapara National Park Tourism And Travel Guide

By Air:

Surrounded by wilderness, the closest airport to Jaldapara is Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri . The airport is located 145 km from the national park and can be reached by cabs and buses. Bagdogra enjoys commendable connectivity with major airports of the country like Kolkata , Mumbai , Delhi and Chennai . They have public and private airlines operating flights regularly in and out of Bagdogra. The latter is an important airport that helps to connect North Bengal and Northeast India with the rest of the country.

Jaldapara has a railway station located 7 km away in Madarihat and most trains do not stop here. The closest operational stations are in Hasimara and Birpara, both of which are located 20 km from the park. Most major express trains stop here. However, the most important railhead is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station in Jalpaiguri. It is one of the major railway junctions in North Bengal and north-east India. The station helps to connect the eastern states with other major cities. There is a large number of express and special trains make a stop here before heading towards the northeast.

Jaldapara is well connected by road to different parts of the state. It lies on a National Highway which allows people to reach Jaldapara from Siliguri in only 3 hours. The entry point to the park is Madarihat, which lies on NH31. There are regular bus services between Jaldapara and neighboring areas. Bhutan Government buses, North Bengal State Transport Corporation buses, and minibuses are abundantly available for ferrying people to different parts of the state like Siliguri and Alipurduar via Madarihat which gives access to the national park.

Getting Around:

Weather and Best Time to Visit

Weather and Best Time to Visit: Jaldapara National Park Tourism And Travel Guide

Summer (March to June):

Summer in Jaldapara is quite hot and humid with temperatures ranging between 32°C and 40°C. Despite the heat, it is one of the better times to visit Jaldapara if you want to spot animals. Because of the heat, they come out of their hiding to go to river banks for drinking water, particularly in the mornings and evenings. It is relatively easier to spot them during these times. As the morning grows it becomes hotter and they tend to take refuge in their shelter.

Monsoon (June to September):

Monsoon in Jaldapara brings heavy showers. The incessant rains make sightseeing difficult and the park is closed to tourists. Safaris are canceled for the entire monsoon period from June to September. Moreover, monsoon also happens to be the breeding season of the animals and they prefer to remain in their hideout and do not venture out much. It is difficult to spot them.

Winter (October to March):

The months following monsoon, in October and November, leaves are green and fresh and because of the rains, the grasses grow in height and thickness. Spotting animals during these months is tough because they hide well behind the tall grasses. These two months experience some light rainfall which makes safaris difficult. With the onset of the winter, the grasses become thinner and trees shade leaves and weather improves. Animal movement increases and is easier to spot. A visit to Jaldarapara till March is a good idea.

The air in the Jaldapara is simply refreshing and one could sense the solitude of wilderness. The rhythms and sounds of jungle create magical effects on animals and visitors travel the mesmerizing Jaldapara Camp. Rhino is the ultimate trademark of the Jaldapara Camp.

The wildlife enthusiasts can experience the electrifying. In open woodlands, scattered grasslands and across rivers and glades scenes of strolling elephants is simply breath-taking. Wandering species such as tuskers and maknas can be spotted around the beautiful Hollong tourists lodge.

Other striking experience is when visitors get a chance to visit Jaldapara Camp during dawn and twilight zone as many species can be found in the low human traffic area. The herd of Gaur (Indian bison) and variety of deer such as chital, hog deer, Sambar and barking deer (Muntjac) can be seen marching around the sanctuary, camp in the early morning.

Amongst other species of Deer, Sambar is Asia’s largest Asiatic deer that are majorly found in bundle. Sambar prefers being close to streams and grasslands. Hog Deer by nature prefers tall grass unlike their contemporary Chital. The multi-talented ability of the barking deer fascinates visitors the most as it produces variety of sounds from its gifted vocal cords. In this thrilling camp of Jaldapara several wild pigs can spotted mainly around the open grounds and rivers as they dig tubers and bulbs.

Tourists visiting sanctuary long for the glimpse of roaring Tigers and Leopards but it is rare that these ferocious animals can be spotted during prime tourists’ hours. Visitors can try when few people are around, perhaps they may get lucky to spot these beautiful animals.

Rarest of the lot reserve includes Leopard, Fishing cat and Jungle. The remaining lot of the Jaldapara Camp is equally fascinating with the likes of Indian Civet, Common Otter, Fidgety Giant squirrel, hispid hare, Indian porcupine and pangolin.

The Asiatic one-horned rhinoceros is the sanctuary’s major attraction. Jaldapara National Park, and Kaziranga National Park in Assam, have India’s highest number of one-horned rhinos.

Leopard, elephant, sambhar deer, barking deer, spotted deer, hog deer, wild pig, and bison are among the other animals seen here.

Jaldapara is a haven for avian enthusiasts. It is one of the few locations in India where you can see the Bengal florican, also known as the Bengal Bustard. The period following the monsoon, from October to January, is the ideal time to visit Jaldapara National park.

During winter, the temperature is pleasant and ideal for trips to the jungle, but the trees lose their leaves in winter, and the grasslands become sparser. However, you can surely spot wildlife during this time.

The forest appears lush and peaceful during the monsoon, as the jungle is denser than ever, and the trees and meadows have grown during the monsoon with new leaves. Therefore, spotting animals during this time may be difficult until they come out in the open, as they often remain hidden in the foliage. Additionally, there may be sporadic rains.

The park remains closed from June 15 – September 15 since it is the breeding season for animals.

You can also visit this place during summer, but the weather may be uncomfortable.

So try to plan your trips in winter and avoid visiting in summer and monsoons.

Khabarovsk, Russia

You are here, about khabarovsk.

Khabarovsk is one of the most significant and beautiful cities of Russia's Far East. It stands on the right bank of the Amur River along the scenic Trans-Siberian railway and almost touches the Chinese border.

The city of Khabarovsk played a crucial role in East - Russian history and is famous for its historic sights, monuments of architecture of different eras, religious buildings, lovely parks, gardens, and artificial lakes which surprise its visitors with impressive fountain shows.

Khabarovsk History

Founded in 1858, the city is now loved by Chinese travelers and those who are going on iconic train journeys along the world's longest railway from Siberia. After days of relentless taiga, people reach this vibrant city with multiple attractions, plenty of historical sights from the tsarist-era, and a number of places to try traditional Russian cuisine. Khabarovsk is indeed a charming city that deserved to be on your travel itinerary. Especially, if you are the legendary Trans-Siberian is on your travel radar.

We suggest beginning your Khabarovsk tour from the famous monument erected in honor of Nikolay Muravyov - Amursky, one of the best-known explorer of East Siberia, a general, and the founder of the city.

Continue your Khabarovsk trip with a riverside walk along the picturesque Nevelsky Embankment and pass through the third tallest church (35 feet) in all Russia - Spaso-Transfiguration Cathedral standing on top of a hill. Take in the spectacular location and view of this Cathedral and its classic golden domes, dominating the city skyline and being visible from a large distance.

Your Trans-Siberian itinerary would become even better if you include a visit to the famous Khabarovsk Bridge as well. The railway bridge goes over the Amur River and is considered to be the longest bridge on the Trans-Siberian route.

Best Things to Do in Khabarovsk

  • Stop by the Nikolay Muravyov - Amursky monument
