What a fun experience this was!! My new wife and I came to Kauai for our honeymoon and knew this was something we wanted to do, but Jordan and Ian made it so much better then we expected. • Old Koloa Sugar Mill: After its closure in 1996, the mill became a popular tourist attraction and it has been featured in many Hollywood movies.
• Wilcox Tunnel: The historical tunnel was built just after World War II. It runs about one-half mile and measures 20x20 feet.
• Waita Reservoir: Constructed in 1906, the Waita Reservoir was used as the primary water source for the Koloa Sugar Plantation.

How does it work?

• Vehicle information: Polaris RZR 1000 4 Seater UTVs.
• Are solo rides available? No.
• Duration: Approximately 3 hours total with approximately 40 minutes of drive time.
• Trail conditions: 15 miles of off-roading trails along the unspoiled backcountry of Kauai’s south shore. Enjoy beautiful ocean views, movie sites, Wilcox Tunnel, and the Waita Reservoir. This is a guided scenic/historical tour reaching speeds up to 25 MPH.
• Age restriction: Drivers must be 18 years old with a valid driver’s license. Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 25 years of age or older.
• Weight limit: 320lbs per person.

• What to bring: sunscreen, bug spray, towel, a bottle of water, change of clothes.
• Do not bring or wear anything that cannot get dirty, muddy, or wet. The tour includes a complimentary souvenir bandana to keep the dirt, dust, and mud out of your mouth.
• There is a bathroom at the staging area and the Waita Reservoir.

We have gone to Hawaii for the last three years to different islands. Kauai ATV has been my favorite by a million. The tour guides were amazing and so fun and informative. Mana and Ace did a fabulous job! So much fun. The views are spectacular and the Atv riding was super exciting. We were on high our whole trip because of the activity! I’d do this again for sure! Also Lori the person on Kauai vacations who helped was also amazing. She booked all our activities and was so helpful!

Visited Kipu Ranch and did the 3-hour tour with my husband and 11-year-old daughter. We had a blast and very much enjoyed the stories told by our guide, Justin, whenever we stopped along the tour. I would recommend this to anyone, very safe and fun if you follow directions. The banana bread as a snack was homemade and amazing!!

Troy and Giggles were our guides and did an excellent job of showing the group how to drive the UTVs properly over the terrain. They shared some Hawaiian history and pointed out famous movie scenes that were filmed on the ranch, we were also treated to some great views of the island that you wouldn't otherwise see!

What a way to check out the private ranch where a couple of movies were shot. Our tour guides were very informative and funny. The test drive session they gave made us comfortable with the ATVs, which were well maintained and took on the most rugged surfaces with ease. The locations were beautiful!

We LOVED our waterfall tour with Kipu Ranch! Our tour guides were amazing! Loved the stories about the ranch, the movies made there, and the history of the island. We had a great time doing the off road adventure which included the ATVs, a short hike, two ziplines, and lunch with a quick swim. I am so glad we chose to do ATVs in Princeville because the views were amazing. Wear clothing that you don't mind getting ruined.

Excellent ATV tour. The guides were very friendly and helpful, equipment was just as described and terrain and views fantastic. It rained the days before so we got extra water and mud to add to the fun!

Be prepared to get very dirty -- though keep in mind the dirtier the better! (it's more fun) They provide loaner shorts and shirt to wear over your swimsuit so you don't have to worry about your clothes getting mud on them. You'll drive through parts of Kauai that you would never be able to see otherwise.

Part of the trail drives right through a big tunnel once used to haul sugar cane on the plantation. Next, head over to the shoreline of Waita Reservoir. This huge fresh water reservoir is not only peaceful and picturesque, but also a popular spot for bass fishing! The Kauai ATV Koloa Tour will also provide a deli style lunch including a sandwich, chips, cookie and water.

I’ll be the first to admit that I was a bit hesitant about going on an ATV tour . We had our kids, 8 and 11, with us, and we shared one 4-person ATV.  I was worried there wouldn’t be enough action and view for everyone. As it turned out, we stopped multiple times, so we all got to switch places.  But it wasn’t really an issue due to there not being windows.  The backseat was just as fun. Here is our experience on the Koloa ATV Tour.

Koloa ATV Tours offers two different types of tours: a two-hour tour and a four-hour tour . We opted for the four-hour tour so that we could really see everything that Kauai has to offer. Our guides were fantastic . They were very knowledgeable about the island and made sure to point out all of the best places to take photos. They shared the history of Koloa , both past and present, and showed us some pretty special spots (the tunnel being a favorite.)

The four-hour tour took us to some of Kauai’s most beautiful places , places you can only see with the tour as the land is privately owned . We even got to try our hand at fishing, feeding ducks and taking in amazing views. All in all, it was an amazing experience , and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something adventurous to do on Kauai .

If you’re looking for an adrenaline-pumping activity on Kauai , look no further than Koloa ATV Tours . Whether you opt for the two-hour tour or the four-hour tour, you’re sure to have an amazing time. Rain hammers Kaua‘i over 12-hour period

LIHU‘E — Acting Mayor Reiko Matsuyama signed an emergency proclamation for the County of Kaua‘i on Friday due to the “rain event” or heavy overnight rainfall on Thursday night.

The disaster emergency relief period will continue for 60 days or by a separate proclamation, whichever comes first, the county said in a press release.

An emergency proclamation has also been requested from Hawai‘i Gov. Josh Green.

The purpose of the emergency proclamation is to provide continued relief for disaster damages, losses and suffering, and to protect the health, safety and welfare of Kaua‘i residents and visitors.

Residents are advised to start documenting and taking photos of damages on their property. More information on damage assessments will be announced.

The National Weather Service (NWS) on Friday reported that a strong low pressure system northwest of the state brought a band of heavy rain and thunderstorms across Kaua‘i.

The rain event started with light rain during the day on Thursday, and developed into steady rain and thunderstorms overnight. According to NWS, the most intense period of rain occurred in the 12-hour period between 6 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday.

That resulted in several evacuations in the Wailua and Koloa area, and according to the local radio station, several vehicle rescues due to flooding. A number of roads around the island, including Kuhio Highway near the Hanalei Bridge, were closed due to flooding and landslides.

According to NWS automated rain gauges, totals for the 12-hour period ending at 6 a.m. Friday showed 12.51 inches of rain pelting Kalaheo, the greatest amount of rain falling on Kaua‘i. Lihu‘e Airport reported 11 inches and the gauges at the Princeville Airport showed 5.77 inched.

On the westside of the island, Oma‘o recorded 11.35 inches and Po‘ipu showed 10.59 inches. Port Allen recorded 8.60 inches and Mana gauges showed 4.12 inches.

All schools, public, private, preschools, and the Kaua‘i Community College were closed due to the heavy overnight rainfall. Several planned events were also postponed

Traffic was reduced to a trickle over the Wailua Bridge that suffered damage due to the heavy overnight rainfall. The original bridge was closed and two-way traffic was diverted to Bryan Baptiste Bridge on the makai side of Wailua River.

Rowena Contrades Pangan, of the Ho‘omana Thrift Store, said the shop was gutted by the waters that overflowed Wailua River.

“We had about 7 feet of water coming through,” Pangan said. “We lost everything. Fridays are the days we feed the homeless to a tune of about 150 meals. What are we going to do? The force of the water was so great, it tipped over our walk-in refrigerator. We can’t even cook.”

In Koloa, the Gather Federal Credit Union, Koloa Branch, and several neighboring businesses, including the parked food trucks were closed on Friday because flood waters had entered the businesses.

“The force of the water was strong enough to move our dumpster in the back,” said Justin Ganaden, a Gather FCU vice president. “We should be able to clean this over the weekend, and hopefully, open on Monday. Fortunately, no one was hurt.”

The NWS synopsis on the weather.gov/hawaii website stated another trough will move into the area Saturday night and will linger across the state through early next week.

The trough will bring another round of heavy rain starting over Kaua‘i on Saturday night into Sunday. Flooding will be the main concern as this trough moves through the state, the NWS said.
