About Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway:

Listen | Watch Video

Grammy Award–winning singer, songwriter, and musician Molly Tuttle and her band, Golden Highway, released their latest album, City of Gold, this past July on Nonesuch Records. The Grammy-nominated City of Gold follows Tuttle’s acclaimed 2022 record, Crooked Tree, which won Best Bluegrass Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards and led NPR Music to call her “a female flat picker extraordinaire with agility, speed, and elegance who distinctively brings American roots music into the spotlight,” adding that the album “marries the improvisatory solos of traditional bluegrass with singer-songwriter sophistication.” Produced by Tuttle and Jerry Douglas and recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studios, City of Gold was inspired by Tuttle’s constant touring with Golden Highway these past few years, during which they have grown together as musicians and performers, cohering as a band. Reflecting on the project, Tuttle shares, “When I was a kid, we took a field trip to Caloma, CA, to learn about the gold rush. I’ll never forget the dusty hills and the grizzled old miner who showed us the nugget around his neck. Just like gold fever, music has always captivated me, captured my heart, and driven me to great lengths to explore its depths. On my new album I dug deep as a songwriter (with Ketch Secor) and co-producer (with Jerry Douglas) and surfaced with a record that celebrates the music of my heart, my life, the land where I grew up, and the stories I heard along the way. I made this record with my band Golden Highway after playing more than 100 shows across the country last year. On the road and in the studio, we are inspired by artists such as John Hartford, Gillian Welch, and Peter Rowan, to name a few, whose records are like family albums to us. Just like them, on this album we chart some new territory along with some old familiar ground. The songs span from breakdowns to ballads, fairytales and fiddle tunes, from Yosemite up to the Gold Country and out beyond the mountains. That visit to Coloma, site of California’s first gold strike, is where I first heard about El Dorado, the city of gold. Playing music can take you to a place that is just as precious.”

Raised in Northern California, Tuttle moved to Nashville in 2015. In the years since, she’s been nominated for Best New Artist at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, won Album of the Year at the 2023 International Folk Music Awards, Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2022 International Bluegrass Music Awards, Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2018 Americana Music Awards, and Guitar Player of the Year at the IBMAs in both 2017 and 2018, the first woman to receive the honor. Tuttle has performed around the world, including shows with Sam Bush, Béla Fleck, Hiss Golden Messenger, Jason Isbell, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Dwight Yoakam as well as at several major festivals including Newport Folk Festival and Pilgrimage.

Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway Outline Next Rodeo Tour Dates

Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and musician Molly Tuttle, along with her band, Golden Highway, have announced they’re are set to hit the road for their Next Rodeo tour on the East Coast this November. The tour will see the ensemble make stops at beloved venues like New York City’s Brooklyn Made, Burlington, Vt.’s Higher Ground Ballroom, Albany, N.Y.’s The Egg, Ardmore, Pa.’s Ardmore Music Hall, and Washington DC’s 9:30 Club, among others.

The news of the tour comes hot on the heels of the band’s successful Road to El Dorado run on the west coast, which featured captivating performances at renowned venues like Portland, Ore.’s Aladdin Theatre, Seattle’s Crocodile, Boise, Ind.’s Knitting Factory, Salt Lake City’s Commonwealth Room, and Denver’s Cervantes Other Side.

The upcoming shows will celebrate Tuttle’s latest album, City of Gold , released last month on Nonesuch Records. The project was produced by Tuttle and Jerry Douglas and inspired by her extensive touring with Golden Highway recently, following her 2022 record, Crooked Tree , which won the Best Bluegrass Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.

The release of the new album coincides with a triumphant year for Tuttle, who has been nominated for an impressive seven awards at the 2023 IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards. The nominations include Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Guitar Player of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Instrumental Group of the Year, and Collaborative Recording of the Year. Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, a band member of Golden Highway, has also been nominated for Fiddle Player of the Year; other band members include Dominick Leslie (mandolin), Shelby Means (bass, harmony vocals), and Kyle Tuttle (banjo, harmony vocals) who will join Tuttle on the Next Rodeo tour.

Meijer Gardens announces lineup for 2024 Summer Concert Series

GRAND RAPIDS — When Art Garfunkel played the first official concert at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in June 2003, the fledgling Grand Rapids-area amphitheater attracted a little more than 1,000 concertgoers as it braced for an inaugural 10-concert season.

This season, Meijer Gardens has announced a 33-concert lineup for the 1,900-capacity outdoor venue, with My Morning Jacket, Black Pumas, Blues Traveler, Leslie Odom Jr., Boyz II Men and Charley Crockett joining returning favorites like O.A.R., Trombone Shorty, Bonnie Raitt, Michael Franti and Amos Lee.

The Fifth Third Bank Summer Concert Series will kick off June 5 with “outlaw cowboy” Orville Peck, who was forced to cancel his 2023 tour with a stop at Meijer Gardens.

Tower of Power, Jason Mraz, The Wallflowers, Il Divo, Gin Blossoms, Kansas, Grace Potter and Fitz and The Tantrums also will likely garner enthusiastic attention from concertgoers when discounted tickets go on sale to Meijer Gardens members at 9 a.m. April 20.

After the member pre-sale, tickets will go on sale to the general public April 27 through AXS.com , this year’s new ticket provider.

“I might be biased, but welcoming Bonnie Raitt back after a seven-year break is certainly hard to beat. She is just the best,” said Chris Mautz, who books the annual concert series. “The mix of the first-time acts hitting the gardens is (also) sweet."

Meijer Gardens had previously announced three shows — Los Lobos and Little Feat on June 21, The Temptations and The Four Tops on July 12, and Andrew Bird and Amadou and Mariam on Aug. 9.

As usual, the series will feature several high-profile double bills, including Raitt and James Hunter on June 26; Old Crow Medicine Show and Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway on July 10; Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket with Vertical Horizon on Aug. 5; Blues Traveler and Big Head Todd and The Monsters on Aug. 14; and the series-closing Keb’ Mo’ and Shawn Colvin on Sept. 16.

“Curating the (series) is such a blast for our entire team. (It's) a bit like going for a long walk in the gardens. You begin with a bit of a plan and then you see where it takes you,” Mautz said.

The average public ticket price has dropped slightly the past two years. This year’s average price comes in at $72.60, 30 cents less than the 2023 average of $72.90.

The most expensive concert will be Boyz II Men on July 28, with tickets priced at $130 for members during the pre-sale and $135 for non-members.

Boyz II Men, Bonnie Raitt, Jason Mraz: Meijer Gardens announces 2024 summer concert lineup

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The long-awaited lineup for the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park’s 2024 summer concert series has dropped.

The annual summer concert series, spanning from early June through mid-August, will feature 33 unique concerts at the venue’s outdoor amphitheater.

The outdoor amphitheater at Meijer Gardens, 1000 East Beltline Ave. NE in Grand Rapids, has terraced lawn seating for 1,900 people.

“We are delighted to present another summer of world-class live music in the Frederik Meijer Gardens Amphitheater,” said Charles Burke, Meijer Gardens president and CEO.

“We’re extremely thankful to the entire Meijer family, Fifth Third Bank, Harvey Lexus of Grand Rapids, Corewell Health, Grand Rapids Symphony, the Steve and Amy Van Andel Foundation, and all our partners for their commitment in helping make this series possible and allowing us to welcome more people to experience the arts at Meijer Gardens.”

Based upon ticket prices, the most highly anticipated performances in the lineup are for Boyz II Men, Bonnie Raitt with James Hunter, and Jason Mraz.

Boyz II Men will perform at Meijer Gardens on Sunday, July 28, and tickets cost $130 presale and $135 for the general public. The second priciest concert on the list is Bonnie Raitt with James Hunter, who will perform on Wednesday, June 26. Tickets to see Raitt cost $99 presale and $104 for the general public.

RELATED: Here’s your complete list of Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park events for 2024

Jason Mraz rounds out the top three most expensive concerts, with $95 presale and $100 general public tickets for his Wednesday, July 17 performance.

Tickets go on sale for all 33 concerts for Meijer Gardens members at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 20. The members-only presale runs through 9 p.m. Friday, April 26, but several of the most anticipated performances will likely sell out quickly.

Last year, 20 out of the 30 concerts in the 2023 lineup sold out on the first day of members-only ticket sales.

Public ticket sales to non-members begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 27. There is a limit of six tickets per show.

Tickets will be available for purchase online at AXS.com . On top of the ticket prices, which vary per performer, a $10 per ticket fee and a 3% credit card fee is added per order. After purchase, tickets can be managed via the AXS mobile app. There will be a $15 processing fee for those who want their tickets mailed to them and a $6 processing fee for those who choose Will Call as their delivery method.

This is a different ticketing website than the one Meijer Gardens used last year, which charged a flat $15 processing fee per order.

The ticketing system change comes after some Meijer Gardens members complained last year that they were unable to get tickets for the most popular performances after long waits on the ticketing system. Meijer Gardens later issued an apology for the ticketing issues its members experienced.

Show start times vary, and all performances take place rain or shine, though weather delays are possible. Below is the complete lineup of the 2024 Meijer Gardens summer concert series, with ticket prices:

Tips for seeing a show at Pier 17

If you haven't seen a show on The Rooftop at Pier 17  yet, it's worth changing that this summer. With its 3,500 capacity, the venue offers an intimate atmosphere combined with impeccable views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building, and the Statue of Liberty.

As for drinks, stop by the Patrón Patio, a lounge with Patrón Tequila cocktails and frozen beverages. If you want to treat yourself, you can add on access to the Grey Goose Terrace, a private rooftop lounge with food and cocktails for purchase, plus an Instagram-worthy backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Before (or after) the show, there are plenty of delectable dining options near the venue's Seaport location. To name a few: Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s seafood restaurant The Fulton; Tin Building by Jean-Georges; Helene Henderson’s Malibu Farm New York; Andrew Carmellini's Italian chophouse Carne Mare, NoHo Hospitality's Mister Dips, more.

"The Rooftop at Pier 17 has become a bucket list destination with New Yorkers and visitors from across the country and around the globe, looking forward to the Summer Concert Series every year," Anton Nikodemus, CEO of Seaport Entertainment Group said in a press release. "People are flocking to The Rooftop not just to hear their favorite artists perform live, but for the breathtaking views of the city skyline and to enjoy the best cocktails and food the city has to offer at the Seaport’s surrounding bars and restaurants."

Cannes Competition Title ‘Grand Tour’ Debuts Trailer, Director Miguel Gomes’ Next Film to Be ‘Savagery’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Grand Tour

Variety has been granted exclusive access to the trailer (below) for Portuguese director Miguel Gomes ‘ “Grand Tour,” which will have its world premiere in Cannes Film Festival’s Competition section. Variety can also exclusively reveal that that distribution on “Grand Tour” will be handled in France by Tandem, and in Italy by Lucky Red, and that Gomes’ next film will be “Savagery.”

Popular on Variety

“Grand Tour” is produced by Uma Pedra No Sapato (Portugal) in co-production with Vivo Film (Italy), Shellac Sud (France) and Cinema Defacto (France), in association with The Match Factory (Germany), Rediance (China) and Creatps Inc. (Japan), and with the participation of ZDF/ARTE and RTP.

Gomes was previously in Cannes in 2015 with “Arabian Nights” and in 2021 with “The Tsugua Diaries.” His 2012 film “Tabu” played at the Berlinale.

Speaking to Variety , the film’s producer Filipa Reis explains how the project came together.

It was over dinner with Reis that Gomes first presented his idea for the film, in which narrative sequences shot in a studio would be intercut with footage of contemporary Asia. “The idea was… I don’t know… very appealing and charming,” says Reis, who was a co-producer on “The Tsugua Diaries.” Gomes then asked her to produce it.

The plan was for Gomes to take a small documentary-style crew to seven Asian countries – Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Japan and China – shooting in 16mm so “that we could build this archive and then to write the script according to what was found,” Reis says.

Once those funds were in place, Gomes shot the narrative sequences in studios in Portugal and Italy in early 2023.

Reis says it was a “challenge” to do the Asia trip without a script, adding “it’s not as it’s meant to be in the industry, but it was also very appealing.” She adds that it required “a risk” to be taken to shoot the archive footage before applying to the production funds.

Asked how working with Gomes compares with working other directors, she says: “He’s very unique. And I think to work with him, you really have to be very confident about what he’s doing, because it can be a proposal that’s a bit outside the box compared with the way you are used to doing things, and the way the funds and the industry thinks things are supposed to be done.”

During the studio shoot they had “links to some rough edit archive footage, so that when you read the script, you could understand at least how [the narrative footage] crossed over with the archive,” she says. The narrative sequences are in Portuguese, except for one character who speaks in French. The archive footage is in the language of the country that the crew were shooting in.

Although the story takes place in Asia during a time of imperial rule in many countries colonialism isn’t the theme, Reis says, in contrast to “Tabu.” “I would say that it’s something new. Of course, ‘Tabu’ is a great film, but I think this one will be surprising,” she says, enigmatically.

As to the tone of “Grand Tour,” Reis says that it contains both comedy and tragedy, “but it is also melancholic, and it is courageous.” She adds: “I think it has a lot of emotional elements for us to make a connection with it.”

The film was finished in October, and shown to Cannes in November. A world premiere at Cannes was always “Plan A,” Reis says, adding: “I feel as a producer that it’s where the film is supposed to be, and where Miguel is supposed to be.”

At present no preview screenings are planned, although that may change, and Gomes isn’t doing press interviews before the world premiere. “We would like it if the film was discovered by everyone at the same time,” Reis says. “I’m a bit anxious to see how it will be received, and we are very curious about that. So it would be nice if we could make a surprise and share our enthusiasm and our surprise with the audience.”

Reis says that her next project as a producer will be Gomes’ Brazilian-set film “Savagery,” which will be co-produced by Tatiana Leite in Brazil. Further details about the project will be released at a later date.

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

molly tuttle concert tour

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

molly tuttle concert tour

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

molly tuttle concert tour

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

molly tuttle concert tour

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

molly tuttle concert tour

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.
