इस पार्क में प्रवेश के लिए शुल्क लिया जाता है। यहां पर वयस्क व्यक्ति का 100 रूपए और बच्चों का 50 रूपए लिया जाता है। यह पार्क सुबह 9:30 बजे से शाम को 5:00 बजे तक खुला रहता है। यहां पर पक्षी विहार  बना हुआ है, जहां पर बहुत सारे पक्षी देखे जा सकते हैं, जो बहुत ही सुंदर लगते हैं। यहां पर सर्पोद्यान बना है, जहां पर बहुत सारे सर्प देखे जा सकते है।

मोरनी हिल्स पंचकूला – Morni Hills Panchkula

मोरनी हिल्स पंचकूला का एक प्रमुख पर्यटन स्थल है। यह एक हिल स्टेशन है। यह हरियाणा का एकमात्र हिल स्टेशन है। यह पंचकूला से करीब 35 किलोमीटर दूर है और चंडीगढ़ से 45 किलोमीटर दूर है। यहां पर आकर, आपको बहुत सारे दर्शनीय स्थल देखने के लिए मिलते हैं। इस जगह पर आप जाकर अच्छा अनुभव कर सकते हैं।

यह हिल स्टेशन शिवालिक पर्वत श्रेणियों में स्थित है। यहां पर ठहरने के लिए बहुत सारे रिसोर्ट मिल जाते हैं, जहां पर आप ठहर सकते है और इस जगह के पर्यटन स्थलों में घूम सकते हैं। मोरनी हिल में बहुत सारे दर्शनीय स्थल देखने के लिए मिलते हैं। यहां पर टिक्कर ताल, प्रिजम वाटरफॉल, मोरनी किला, मोरनी एडवेंचरस पार्क, व्यू प्वाइंट, नदियां, जंगल और भी बहुत सारी जगह देखी जा सकती है। जो बहुत ही सुंदर रहते हैं।

पंचकूला आने का सबसे अच्छा समय ठंड का रहता है। आप यहां पर ठंड के समय में आकर घूम सकते हैं। आप यहां पर बरसात के समय पर भी आकर घूम सकते हैं। यहां पर बरसात के बाद हरियाली देखने के लिए मिलती है। पंचकूला में गर्मी में घूमने में थोड़ी परेशानी हो सकती है।

Panchkula - The City of Culture & Dreams

As an explorer and traveler the curiosity to explore more is always on my mind, and what’s better than to start exploring your surroundings? I have been part of this city called Panchkula from last 4-5 years but I never thought that this place held so many gems of places to explore and to learn from. So without further delay let’s dig into it’s hidden secrets starting from its name.

Here are the few places I explored recently which you never found on google and are worth being a part of your next travel list.

Old Architecture

Nahan kothi, nahan kothi.

A significant and only remnant representing the British architecture of 19th century AD in the modern city of Panchkula is popularly known as Nahan Kothi. This monument was built by Prince Surjan Singh and Bir Singh, the sons of Raja Fateh Singh (1857-63 AD), the ruler of Sirmour State. This region including Morni and other adjoining hilly areas of Haryana was then under the jurisdiction of Sirmour State , the capital of this state was Nahan (Himachal Pradesh), hence the name Nahan Kothi was given to this building. It was generally used by the rulers to keep watch on the activities of their territory. Sometimes it was also used for overnight stay during hunting expeditions. This monument had a garden and servant quarters in the beginning, the original architecture of this monument has been marred by the renovations and alterations at various times, even then, its original characteristics of architectural style are still intact.

The building was declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in 2007. The then Panchkula DC Rajinder Kataria decided to shift the consumer forum to the to the upcoming district courts complex,

The structure seems like a watchtower. I read somewhere that this structure was used to watch enemies coming from far distances due to its presence in such a height where one can watch the entire city in an instant glance. Another story behind it is that it is having a tunnel that ends at Chandi Kotla village which is around 3 km away from Burj fort during Maharaja times when they ruled this area.

Raipur rani fort

Rani Raipur Fort is a historical legacy. According to historians there is a past aspect of this fort related to Guru Gobind Singh Ji (The tenth Guru of Sikhism).

Established in 1420. This fort is spread across 2 acres and is about 35 Kms from Chandigarh and 25 Kms from Panchkula. Its previous name was “Rao Ka Majra” and upon being pleased by the service of Raipur’s Queen, locals saw the opportunity and named it as Rani Raipur Fort.

There’s only one gate for the entry and the rest of the sides are shut. As you enter the fort, you can see a Gurdwara, where Sikhs recite the Gurbani.

Nirjhar Vatika

Nirjhar Vatika near Chandigarh is often visited by people of all age groups as it is quite famous for its lush greens and serene environment. It also displays an artificial waterfall which is a center of attention for children. There is also a lake and a stone built bridge over it. As being a hub for activity, some food vendors can also be seen.

Children's Traffic Park

Taking an inspiration from “Catch them Young’’ philosophy, the RSC focuses its main activities on teaching young children fundamentals of road safety. Youngsters are brought here with teachers to this park to engage them in an interactive learning on how traffic lights and various other aspects of traffic works. Today it is realized that internationalization of road rules and road discipline by the road users is a critical information one must possess before actually driving to maintain smoother and safer roads.

Bird sanctuary

Khol hi-raitan wildlife sanctuary.

Panchkula houses Khol Hi-Raitan Wildlife Sanctuary. It is 0.5 km away from Panchkula on the Morni Road and its aerial distance from the Bir Shikargah Wildlife Sanctuary is only 3 km.

The Forests Department, Haryana of Government of Haryana officially notified this as a Wildlife Sanctuary on 10 December 2004. It is spread over an area of 4883 (2226.58 and 2656.38) hectares. In addition, there is a 1320 hectares eco sensitive zone around the sanctuary.

Future Projects

Maharishi patanjali dwar.

Morni Hill’s World Herbal Forest aims to develop a forest of medicinal plants that’ll provide a boost to Ayurveda industry throughout India. Patanjali will collaborate with ministries which in turn will form a herbal corporation that’ll look into functioning of this new World Herbal Forest.

Natural Waterfalls

Burj kotiya (waterfall).

A natural waterfall which provides an escape from busy cityscape as it is just 30kms from Chandigarh (Sector 17). Even the route towards it from Chandigarh is lush green. It’s cold water flowing in front of Ghaggar river finds its way to Himachal and it used to be much wider but now it has gone down due to climate changes, according to locals.

War Memorials

Major sandeep sankhla memorial park sector 2.

Roundabout in Sector 2 of Panchkula is renamed after the Martyr Major Sandeep Sankhla by The Panchkula Municipal Corporation. Veterans celebrate Kargil Diwas at Shaheed Major Sandeep Sankhla Memorial and you can also observe a tank in the park.

25 Years of Panchkula Mark

Panchkula Mark celebrates the Silver jubilee of Panchkula city. Inaugurated on Haryana Day by the Chief Minister of Haryana Ch. Bansi Lal on November 1st, 1997. There are also some other milestones as well which show the development of Panchkula from initial declaration.

Other Attractions

Yavanika open air theater.

Yavanika open theatre in Panchkula is a perfect destination to spend some time with your family and friends. This place holds multiple events throughout the year like dramas, dance performances and many more. Not only that this spot also is a great spot of morning and evening walks or working out as it offers a ring track. Additionally, there are some spots here worth capturing like extraordinary architectures and layouts, that is why you might find some tourists roaming here.

Bonsai garden

Inaugurated by the CM of Haryana, Ch. Bhajan Lala on November 20, 1994. It is a small and reserved spot allotted for Bonsai trees and also it is closed usually but few time slots are allotted for visits. One might find Bonsai trees here ranging anywhere from 2 to 50 years old. Also, there is a cactus garden nearby with a wide array of plants.

Temples & Gurudwaras

Gurudwara sri koohni sahib.

Guru Gobind Singh came to Shri Koohni Sahib from Narainpur in 1746 (Vikram Samvat) on the request of a Brahmin girl named Anpurna who worshiped Guru Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh meditated here for 17 pahar. While staying here, Anpurna served Guru Sahib and his accompanying sangat with food. Seeing this Guru Sahib blessed her that a temple on her name will be built here before the Gurudwara and whosoever will come here with true devotion, his wishes will come true

Jatayu Yatrika Temples

If you search on google you will there is building or dine in something, but my concentration is on group of small white temple, which are arranged in some specific manner, totally separate from each other but forming a cluster, I tried to ask locals about its significance but didn’t get the desirable answers

Kailashpati Mahadev Mandir

Have you ever wanted to go on a small trek? This trek is not easy at all but difficult to climb at in a single go.

Which leads to the temple which is on the top of a hill. It’s a half an hour inclined trek and as you reach to top you can have a clear view of the whole Panchkula and Chandigarh and those moments are worth capturing, a whole new skyline awaits for you. There is small temple at base and when if ask the priest he will tell you about the way which takes you that top of mountain

Brahmarshi Ashram

Brahmarshi ashram, hanuman mandir.

Brahmarshi Ashram, Hanuman Mandir is one of the few divine places which have a unique architecture on it’s own, with calmness and has a towering statue of Lord Hanuman. With ayurvedic hospitals, Ashrams, yag shala, meditation make the aura of this place totally holistic and the green beautiful scenery around makes it a great place to worship and have a calm rest.

It is believed that this place has a connection with pandavas who spend their time while in their agyatvas and it's a self-sufficient temple providing education, medicine and milk from local gaushalas.

Shree Bhairav Jati Temple

It’s a calm and peaceful Bhairav Hindu temple with a huge statue of God Bhairav with his Vahan(vehicle). It's on top of a mountain which enables us to see the landscape of Siswan Dam. The ambiance is really good. You get a view of Siswan Dam from behind the temple. Delicious free food (Langer) is also served for the visitors.

Some Quick facts

The name " Panchkula " came from it having 5 canals which literally translates to Panch and Kuls in Hindi. Although, all of those canals have been eroded away by Ghaggar river, hence no trace of them remains.

Panchkula is a well planned city in the Panchkula district, Haryana. The city is well designed with systematic layout wide roads adorned with beautiful trees and buildings that compliment the modern outlook of the planning.

My family is originally from the other side of undivided India. I have grown up listening to the stories of the British rule and other historical rulers of India. Thus, when I went to visit New Delhi last winter, I made my plans to visit nearby historical places too. One such place that caught my attention was the city of Panchkula. There are several places to visit in Panchkula, each with a rich historical past.

The winters are delightful in Northern India. So, if you plan to travel to the North, go in the winter. The soothing winds and cold winters would help you roam around the big and small places around the Delhi NCR region.

Panchkula is an area that sits in the foothills of the famous Shivalik range. This city is one of the centers of urbanization in India. This is one of the best destinations for those looking for quick relief from the chores of their busy, hectic life.

History of Panchkula

When you are visiting a place, try to absorb the essence of the area through the different historical stories and tales of that place. Many sites are a hub of history and beautiful stories lingering all over the place. One such place was Panchkula.

Panchkula gets its name from “panch” and “kula.” The word “panch” means five, whereas “kula” means canals. This place distributes water through the 5 sprinkling canals and gets its water from the river of Ghaggar-Hakra. The ruler of this place had built these canals. This district came into existence in the mid of the last decade of the 20th century.

People say that the history of this place is linked to the age of the Pandavas. Foreign Kushan and Yadhey rulers have ruled this place in the earlier days. According to ancient history, this place was under the reign of the Gupta Dynasty.

This place also came under the rule of the famous Mughal dynasty and the mighty Chauhans. Thus, this place has some exquisite architecture scattered all over the area. I was astonished by the designs and grandeur of the buildings built by our ancient rulers around a century ago.

The Topography of Panchkula

Panchkula is a well-planned city and District Headquarter in Panchkula district of Haryana, India. The neighboring areas from this place are Chandigarh, Zirakpur, and Mohali. This place is well connected with all nearby states and cities like Shimla, Ambala, New Delhi, etc.

This district experiences chilly winters, heavy monsoons, and hot summers. The range of the temperature here varies significantly between -1 degrees Celsius to 43 degrees Celsius. One can see winter frost around the winter months. The area also receives heavy rainfall due to the western disturbances. The only perennial river here is the Ghaggar, and the peak point here is the Morni hills. One can get the mesmerizing views of the mountains of Kasauli from Panchkula.

• One of the most famous temples in North India is located here. It is the Mata Mansa Devi Mandir which is committed to the Goddess Mansa Devi. This Goddess is a celebrated form of Shakti in the Hindu religion. The main attraction of the temple is the tree which people believe has fulfilled many wishes over the decades. People tie threads around this tree with hopes of getting their wishes fulfilled.
• Another famous attraction of this place is the Bhima Devi Temple Site Museum. This museum is the Khajuraho of Northern India. It is renowned for its beautiful and amazing figurines. This place has the remains of a prehistoric Hindu temple from the 11th century.
• Beer Castle is a famous eatery with lots of different cuisines for food lovers and bloggers. Some famous foods found here are the Singriki sabzi, Methi Gajar, Bathua Raita, Gajar ka halwa and more.
• Pinjore Gardens or the Yadavindra Gardens is about 12 miles away from the town and covers an area of around 250 acres. This garden dates back to around the 17th century and has become the spot of a yearly mango fair. It has a mini zoo, many historical places, a nursery, a Japanese garden, etc. According to the histories, the Pandava of the Mahabharata fame used to rest in this garden.
• I also visited the Morni hills, part of the Sivalik Hills, which are around 28 miles from the city. These hills got their name from the ruler of this city, Queen Morni. These hills are perfect for bird watching and trekking enthusiasts. Few popular birds which caught my interest were Wallcreeper, Crested Kingfisher, Bar-tail, etc.
• There is a famous Sikh Gurudwara in this district by the name of Nada Sahib. It is built on the banks of the Ghaggar-Hakra River in the Sivalik Hills. I enjoyed visiting this place because of the peace and calmness of the area. You can gaze around or sit along the banks and look upon the mysteries of nature all around.
• National Cactus and Succulent Botanical Garden and Research Centre stand on 7acres of land in the heart of Panchkula. It was built around 1987 and is a habitat for the endangered and rare species of Indian plants. 
• I also went to see the Kaushalya Dam built on the Kaushalya River in Pinjore. I saw diverse varieties of many endangered migratory birds in this area.
• You can also go for the Thunder Zone and Water Park of this city for some thrilling experiences. It is built on 11-acre land and has around 12 exclusive rides for its visitors.
• The Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park is around 15.2 km away from the city. This forms the essential habitat for different kinds of flora and fauna. I saw the famous Royal Bengal tiger here, and this zoo has around 950 animals on its premises.
• If possible, do pay a visit to the famous Raipur Rani, a town built on the Chandigarh- Nahan-Paonta Sahib-Dehradun highway. A Chauhan Rajput, Rao Rai Singh founded this town in 1420 and ruled till Independence. The government has modified this place into an educational hub. You can learn more about the past and the ancient Indian culture from this place.
• You can also visit the biggest garden in Asia, the Cactus Garden here. This garden has around 272 species of genus Mammillaria. You can also get a glimpse of the exotic Aloe species, Aloe ferox & other exotic species here. People can also purchase a few of the available plant species here.
• Other attractions of this place are Bir Shikargah Wildlife Sanctuary, Pheasant Breeding Centre, Jayanti Devi Temple, Khol Hi-Raitan Wildlife Sanctuary, etc.

Things to Do in Panchkula

There are several activities to try out when you are visiting the stunning city of Panchkula. This city has its own games compound for sports lovers which includes the Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium and Panchkula Golf Course.

The Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium has a badminton hall, cricket stadium, football ground, and athletic track for sports enthusiasts. The Panchkula Golf Course was built in 2003 on around 135 acres of land. It has an18 hole golf course positioned around the Shivalik Range just near the Himalayan Expressway.

Other than sports, you can also practice your photography skills here as the town is filled with the serene beauty of nature. You can go shopping for both handmade goodies in the local market or some exquisitely crafted items in the shopping malls of the city. You can also go for trekking and camping activities with your friends and families. Panchkula has some of the best locations which offer the best trekking sites in India .

How to Reach Panchkula?

The district of Panchkula is well connected both by air and road with all the main cities and states of India. The nearest airport is the Chandigarh airport while the closest train station is the Chandigarh station. There are other nearby stations such as Chandimandir, Kalka, Kumarhatti, etc.

A road trip to this place would give one the best experience of traveling around Haryana. I went to this place via road trip and although the journey was a bit lengthy, it was worthwhile.

Once I decide to visit any place, I always try to do my homework well before my traveling dates. This is because it always helps me to manage my time well while visiting a place. But not everything is listed online, and there is lots more to discover than is recorded in the pages of a travel magazine.

There are several offbeat and unknown destinations waiting for travelers like us to discover. Although Panchkula is quite popular now, there are lots of unexplored places in this area that only the locals know about. So many stories and so many attributes of such a site always enthrall me to go on a quest for finding them.

Many students and researchers from all over the world visit this place to study the history of Panchkula and its stunning architecture. Thus, a visit to a historical site like Panchkula is worth a shot. You can also visit this place while visiting other hill stations like Shimla or Kasauli. Panchkula is a well planned city in the Panchkula district , Haryana . It forms a part of the tri- city area i.e. Panchkula, Chandigarh and Mohali. The city hosts the Chandimandir Cantonment which is the headquarters of the Western Command of the Indian Army .

The city is well designed with systematic layout, wide roads adorned with beautiful tress and buildings that compliment the modern outlook of the planning.

The district of Panchkula is also famous for its natural beauty as it enjoys thickest forest cover in the entire State of Haryana. Besides Panchkula city, the district has five towns, Pinjore, Kalka, Barwala, Morni and Ranipur Rani.

Morni Hills, a much sought after tourist destination, is the only hill station in Haryana. It is located on the offshoots of Shivalik Range of the Himalayas and is known for many picturesque spots for sight-seeing. 

The origin of the name Panchkula came from the place where five irrigation canals meet. Panch is five and Kuls means canal, hence the name Panchkula. The canals take water from the Ghaggar and distribute it from Nada Sahib to Mansa Devi . The canals, build by a ruler in the past are a good example of ancient engineering acumen, as at some spots the water is raised to higher levels than the river course.
