Congratulations to our 2024 champion Grayson Murray who stared down a 38-foot, 7-inch birdie putt on the first hole of a three-man playoff and drained it. Murray said, “I kept telling Jay, (his caddie), we’re hitting good putts, we’re hitting them right where we want, and we’re going to have one drop today, and it’s going to be big… and it might be for the win.”

Murray’s miraculous and much-deserved Sony Open in Hawaii win comes after his last appearance at Waialae in 2021 included an off-course incident that placed him on TOUR probation. After choosing to take care of himself and live his life differently, Murray won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour last year and regained exempt status on the PGA TOUR. “My story is not finished. I think it’s just the beginning,” Murray said. “I hope I can inspire a lot of people going forward that have their own issues.

This is his second PGA TOUR victory in six years, five months and 22 days since the 2017 Barbasol Championship. He closed in 3-under 67 in Sunday’s final round at Waialae Country Club that included a clutch birdie at 18 in regulation to force his way into the playoff with Byeong Hun An and Keegan Bradley. Murray finished with a score of 17-under 263.

2024 Sony Open in Hawaii: TV schedule, streaming, how to watch, tee times

The PGA Tour is sticking around in Hawaii this week for the Sony Open.

Chris Condon/PGA TOUR

This week’s PGA Tour action features the first full-field event of the 2024 season with the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii . Here’s everything you need to know to watch the event, including a full Sony Open TV schedule, streaming schedule and complete tee times for the first and second rounds.

Sony Open preview

This week’s Sony Open will be held at longtime host course Waialae Country Club, which was designed by legendary course architect Seth Raynor . While it doesn’t compare to the annual birdie fest we saw once again at last week’s Sentry, the Sony Open still usually features a low-scoring champion.

Last year, Si Woo Kim claimed the trophy with an 18-under total, which represented the fourth PGA Tour win of his career. Kim is back to defend his title in 2024, and while many stars are taking the week off, there are still several major champions in the field, including reigning Open champion Brian Harman and former U.S. Open winner Gary Woodland , who is making his first start since undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumor four months ago.

Golf Channel and NBC will provide TV coverage of the 2024 Sony Open, while Peacock and ESPN+ will offer streaming coverage online.

The official PGA Tour season is teeing off this Thursday, Jan. 4 at The Sentry Plantation at Kapalua , Hawaii, marking the official countdown to the 2024 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing. This is the 56th playing of tournament on Hilton Head Island.

The first playing of the tournament was over Thanksgiving Day weekend in 1969 when Arnold Palmer won by three strokes and took home a winner’s check for $20,000.

Last year’s tournament winner was Matt Fitzpatrick , a 29-year-old from Sheffield, England who became a pro golfer in 2014 with his debut at The Irish Open, joined the PGA tour in 2020, and has accumulated two wins while on his way to ten professional worldwide wins. His share of the purse in 2023 was $3.6 million. The winning purse for this year’s event is set for $20 million. The winner is also awarded a coveted ‘Heritage Plaid’ jacket .

The details

With just 104 days left and 15 weekends of tournaments to occur before RBC Heritage week, here’s what to know ahead of the signature event.

The 2024 RBC Heritage tournament is set to take place on April 15-21 at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Sea Pines on the south end of the island. It will be one of eight new PGA Tour Signature Events with limited field sizes and elevated purses. The 2024 RBC Heritage joins the three player-hosted Signature Events including The Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Memorial Tournament.

Tickets for the annual event were released for sale in October.

Since then, Doc’s BBQ at 15, Lighthouse Club and the new Ultimate Patron Pass for Friday and Saturday are sold out as well as the Calibogue Club for Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s dates.

Tickets may be purchased for individual days or week-long packages.

Patrons may go online to purchase ticket packages and book accommodations .

CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2024: Odds, predictions, value picks for next PGA Tour event

T he PGA Tour returns to the Lone Star State for the third time this season, as the CJ Cup Byron Nelson takes center stage two weeks before the PGA Championship at Valhalla.

This week’s field does not feature a ton of firepower, with Jordan Spieth being the only player ranked within the top 20 of the world. Defending champion Jason Day , Tom Kim, and Will Zalatoris will also tee it up this week, as will Presidents Cup hopefuls Adam Scott, Si Woo Kim, and Sungjae Im.

TPC Craig Ranch, located north of Dallas in McKinney, will host this tournament for the fourth time. K.H. Lee won it in 2021 and 2022, at 25-under and 26-under, respectively, the first two instances in which this layout held it.

Day won at 23-under last year.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson Odds:

Here are the current odds for players to win, per DraftKings:

  • Jordan Spieth +1400
  • Jason Day +1800
  • Will Zalatoris +2200
  • Si Woo Kim +2200
  • Sungjae Im +2500
  • Alex Noren +2500
  • Adam Scott +2500
  • Tom Hoge +2800
  • Min Woo Lee +2800
  • Stephan Jaeger +3000
  • Byeong Hun An +3000
  • Tom Kim +3000
  • Keith Mitchell +3500
  • Thomas Detry +4000

CJ Cup Byron Nelson Predictions

TPC Craig Ranch presents one of the easier challenges seen on the PGA Tour, so it's no surprise to see so many birdies on this course year in and year out.

As such, we are looking at players who make birdies in bunches to perform well on this generous layout this week.

Jordan Spieth finishes in the top 5 in his hometown

Jordan Spieth, who has had an up-and-down season thus far, currently ranks 11th on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained and third in birdie or better conversion percentage at 37.54%. This stat takes Spieth’s total number of birdies made this season (134) and divides that by the total number of greens hit (357).

He may play erratic at times, but Spieth has once again relied on his putter to keep himself in the mix on multiple occasions. He obviously has made plenty of birdies, too.

We see him contending again at TPC Craig Ranch, where he finished solo second two years ago and tied for ninth in 2021. We like the Dallas native to finish in the top 5 at +360.

Mark Hubbard continues strong play

Thirty-four-year-old Mark Hubbard has not missed a cut in the 12 events he has played this year. He tied for fourth at the rain-shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am , his best individual finish. But Hubbard also finished solo third at last week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans , alongside Ryan Brehm in the two-man team-play event.

He has played well, partly thanks to his ability to make plenty of birdies. The San Jose State product has made 187 of them this season, which ranks 5th on the PGA Tour. Given that TPC Craig Ranch yields plenty of par-breakers, Hubbard will rely on his solid tee-to-green play to make a ton of birdies this week.

DraftKings has Hubbard listed at +650 to finish within the top 10, but if you feel bullish like we do, +1400 for a top-5 finish is a solid price.

Tom Hoge bounces back after missed cut

Widely regarded as one of the best ball-strikers on the PGA Tour, Tom Hoge will contend again this week in the Dallas area.

He missed the cut at last week’s Zurich Classic, but before that, he picked apart Harbour Town Golf Links over the first 36 holes and was in the mix for most of the weekend. A disappointing 2-over 74 final round dropped him a few spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 18th, a result much worse than what his performance indicated.

Hoge has played well in other big events this year, namely in California, where he tied for sixth at Pebble Beach and finished solo eighth at Riviera. He has had a solid year, even though he did not receive an invitation to Augusta National .

Still, Hoge ranks behind only Scottie Scheffler on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: approaching the green. He also ranks second in total birdies made this season with 209. His 4.58 birdies per round ranks ninth on the PGA Tour.

Hoge is a sneaky-good putter as well. During his 39 rounds this season, Hoge has averaged 81.5 feet of putts made per round, good for fifth on the PGA Tour. He has all the pieces to play at the highest level, and considering this week’s weaker field, we like Hoge to finish in the top-5 at +650.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson Longshot Pick

Since missing the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in mid-March, Adam Schenk has recorded three top-20 finishes, including a tie for fifth at the Valero Texas Open and a tie for 12th at The Masters.

At +5500 to win, we like the idea of Schenk finally breaking through and securing his first PGA Tour victory at that price.

Although he struggles somewhat with his ball striking, Schenk still finds plenty of ways to make birdies, ranking seventh on tour in total birdies made this season. He also makes plenty of putts from inside of 10 feet, an essential part of the winning formula regardless of the course.

Schenk has been trending in the right direction, and considering he did not play at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, he will arrive in Texas well-rested and refreshed.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson Winner

With the CJ Group taking over the sponsorship naming rights for this year’s tournament, we believe a player represented by this South Korean conglomerate will emerge victorious.

As such, we are picking Si Woo Kim to win his fifth career PGA Tour event this week, his first since the 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Kim has had a solid year, making all 11 cuts while recording five top 20 finishes. His best result came at The Players Championship , where he tied for sixth, while his worst finish came at The Genesis Invitational, where he tied for 44th.

He has a beautiful swing, and the stats reflect that. Kim currently ranks fourth in strokes gained: tee-to-green this season, but his putter has held him back. He is currently 141st on the PGA Tour in strokes gained putting.

Still, the Seoul, South Korea native makes plenty of birdies, a necessity on this course. He has made 178 of them this season—good for 11th on the PGA Tour—and has also recorded nine eagles, which ranks fourth. Kim can go low, which explains why he ranks within the top 12 on tour in both adjusted and actual scoring averages.

Kim resides in the Dallas area, so that should surely help him, too.

We love his price at +2200 to win this week. Only Jordan Spieth and Jason Day have shorter odds than Kim, which is a testament to Kim’s talent and the weak field.

ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Three-time PGA Tour winner Brendan Steele shot an 8-under 64 Saturday to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the LIV Tour’s Adelaide tournament at The Grange Golf Club.

The 41-year-old Steele’s last PGA Tour victory came in 2017 when he won his second Safeway Open. He lost in a playoff to Australian Cameron Smith at the 2020 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Steele had a 36-hole total of 14-under 130. He had a streak of four birdies, a bogey and two birdies in the middle of his round.

Danny Lee was a stroke behind after a 67, followed by Carlos Ortiz (68) and Mito Pereira (67) in a tie for third.

First-round leader Jinichiro Kozuma shot 71 and was tied for ninth, four strokes behind Steele. The Japanese player had an eagle, three birdies and four bogeys.

Jon Rahm, who has yet to win since joining LIV in December, shot 69 and was tied for 15th, six strokes off the lead.

Steele predicted a 20-under total would be needed to win after Sunday’s final round.

“There’s good scores out there for sure,” he said. “If you’re in the fairway, then you can take on a lot of the pins.”

Smith shot 65 and was among those three behind in a four-way tie for fifth.

Enjoying the home crowd’s support, Smith said he was grateful for the lady his errant shot hit on the 17th hole. The shot rebounded kindly off the woman and Smith ended up with a birdie on the hole.

“I hit her in the back,” Smith said. “It probably wasn’t going to be in the trees, but it was going to be in the rough and a different lie, so it could have been a different outcome. But (I) made her proud and made a birdie there, and she helped me out — hopefully that eased the pain a little bit for her.”

A new friendship ensued.

“She was nice,” Smith said. “I went over there and I signed a ball, and she said ‘just give me a hug’, so I gave her a hug as well. She was sweet.”

There was also drama in another Australian’s round with Lucas Herbert’s caddie, Nick Pugh, hit in the head by a water bottle thrown from the crowd while replacing the flagstick at the 12th hole.

Herbert had just holed a birdie putt to finish his round in the shotgun format and was celebrating with fans at the par-3, known as the ‘watering hole’ with its loud music and boisterous fans, when Pugh was hit in the back of the head.

Pugh initially sunk to his knees but made his way back to the clubhouse and was reportedly uninjured and in good spirits.

The LIV tour remains in the Asia region next week for the May 3-5 Singapore event at the Sentosa Golf Club. Then there’s a month-long break before resuming in Houston from June 7-9.

NFL Draft 2024: Brother of Tua Tagovailoa receives rookie minicamp tryout after going undrafted, per report

Taulia tagovailoa is aiming to make an nfl roster.

usatsi-21593515-168396417-lowres-1.jpg

Former Alabama and Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, brother of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa , will have a shot in the NFL next weekend. The 24-year-old will take part in the Seattle Seahawks ' rookie minicamp on a tryout basis after going undrafted, according to NFL Media .

The Seahawks quarterback room currently includes Geno Smith , Sam Howell and undrafted free agent Chevan Cordeiro out of San Jose State.

Taulia was looking for a sixth year of eligibility to play college football , but the NCAA denied his request. The Hawaii native was named Polynesian College Football Player of the Year in 2023 and was second-team All-Big Ten each of the past two seasons.

He played in and started 12 games last season, finishing with Big Ten bests in completions (290), attempts (437), yards (3,377) and passing touchdowns (25). He gave the ball up the most, however, as his 11 interceptions were also a Big Ten high. Taulia had a 66.4 completion percentage and a career-high five rushing touchdowns.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said that Taulia was on their draft board, adding that Tua wanted his younger brother to go where he would fit.

"Tua lobbies for the person and the player, but Tua is not a hoarder of his family members. He wants him to go in the best situation. He's a good kid," McDaniels said (via the team's official transcript ).
