Poison is an American glam metal band formed by Bret Michaels, Matt Smith, Bobby Dall, and Rikki Rockett, from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.

Originally performing under the moniker Paris in their hometown of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, the band moved to Los Angeles, California in 1984 and changed their name to Poison. Lead singer Bret Michaels, bassist Bobby Dall, and drummer Rikki Rockett, held auditions for a lead guitarist and soon after invited C.C. Deville to fill the role. Poison then developed a knack for creatively and thoroughly promoting their gigs and soon garnered a sizeable following, which led the band to sign with Enigma Records in 1986.

The same year Poison released their breakthrough album “Look What the Cat Dragged In” which introduced the band’s brand of glamorous metal androgyny. Aided by the single “Talk Dirty to Me” and “I Won’t Forget You”, the album went on to sell over two million copies. With the release of their sophomore album “Open Up & Say
Ahhh!” Poison were propelled to the level of super-stardom topped only by the likes of Bon Jovi and Def Leppard. The album spawned the hits “Fallen Angel”, “Nothin’ But a Good Time” and the band’s first No. One Hit, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”.

The release of their subsequent album “Flesh and Blood” and resulting tour however marked a decline for the band. After the live album “Swallow This Live” in 1991, Poison parted ways with C.C. Deville who was replaced by the 21 year old Richie Kotzen. The new guitarist only stayed for one album, however, 1993’s “Native Tongue” after it was revealed he had begun an illicit relationship with drummer Rockett’s fiancĂ©. A compilation album entitled “Greatest Hits: 1986-1996” was issued in 1996, shortly after which Deville returned to the group and Poison embarked on a successful arena reunion tour of 1999.

“Crack a Smile” was released in 2000, followed by “Power to the People” a mix of new and live songs from the reunion tour. Following the release of the disappointing “Hollyweird” in 2002, Deville appeared in VH1’s “The Surreal Life” and Michaels hosted his own dating show “Rock of Love with Bret Michaels”. It wasn’t until 2006 that Poison reconvened to celebrate their 20th anniversary, with a nationwide tour and a new greatest hits box-set collection. The album “The Best of Posion: 20 Years of Rock”, aided by Michaels’ new reality TV status, rose to the Top 20 of the Billboard 200, as did its successor “Poison’d!” in 2007.

Live reviews

Pop Evil, Cheap Trick & Poison put on an absolutely amazing show but I am completely disenchanted with the promoters, venue and ticket sellers.

I purchased 200 level seats in row L @ $135/ticket for my wife and I via an American Express Presale, months in advance of the show.

While waiting for the gates to open at Ontario Place/Budweiser Stage, the usual assortment of scalpers were hanging around the front gates when we heard one of them offering half-price tickets to the show. I pulled out my phone and checked Live Nation and Ticketmaster's web sites to find that they were offering, amongst others, tickets two rows in front of our seats for $83.75. These were not resale tickets, and there were several of them.

To make matters worse, while standing in line at one of the food trucks, I overheard several people saying how fortunate they were that their $20 lawn tickets had been upgraded for FREE and yup....they were sitting two rows in front of us when the show started.

Apparently the show had not sold well, so the venue decided to close the lawn area and give everyone with $20 lawn tickets a free upgrade. Lucky for them, but what about those of us who paid full price for the tickets months in advance? Should we not have been offered a partial refund, or at the very least a gift certificate?

I understand that Labatt's and Live Nation (who also happens to own Ticketmaster) own the venue which was recently renamed from Molson Amphitheatre to Budweiser Stage and this was certainly not our first trip to this venue, but it was our first trip to the venue under it's new name.

As I said when I started this, we LOVED the show he bands put on, but if the promoters/venue/ticket sellers are going to continue this practice of shafting those of us who purchase tickets early, we will definitely thing twice before buying tickets to other shows.

We've typically attend 3-5 shows each summer and have definitely noticed a drop in attendance at most shows over the last couple of years. Despite the fact that music lovers will pay dearly to see their favourite bands, there comes a point where there are only so many dollars to go around. I realize that many bands demand higher compensation when touring, but perhaps the drop in attendance is directly related to the ticket prices for shows of late.

There have been several shows that we would love to have seen, but not even folks like us who have been life-long fans of certain bands can't afford $200-$300 for a ticket to see a band who's last hit record was 20-30 years ago.

If the venue's aren't selling out, maybe the ticket prices are too high......

Cheap Trick is my wife's all time favourite band and we've seen them every year for the past 20 years when they've passed through town, but for the price we paid this year, and then to find out that had we waited until the last minute, or purchased the cheap lawn seats and gotten a free upgrade to better seats, we definitely feel cheated this year and will almost certainly take our chances by waiting until the day of, or buying cheap lawn seats if they come through town again next year. Who knows, we may actually end up with better seats than someone else who shows their support for a band by buying tickets early...

If there’s such a thing as glam metal standards, does it really get any more classic than ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’? Poison have certainly earned themselves a place amongst the genuine titans of the genre, and like a handful of their contemporaries (I’m looking at you, Motley Crue), they’ve defied years of debauchery and excess and remain a going concern today. More recently, though, there’s every chance that the wider public are more familiar with frontman Bret Michaels for the slew of appearances that he’s made on reality TV shows - he won the third series of Celebrity Apprentice - or his recent health issues that put his life on the line and the band’s future in serious doubt. Happily, though, Michaels recovered, and Poison hit the road in the summer of 2011 for a tour with the Crue, as well as New York Dolls. The sets were typically silly affairs - big hair, big guitar solos and big, big volume and had Michaels rolling back the years, showcasing a voice that’s stood up remarkably well to the ravages of a rock n’ roll lifestyle. The band have yet to make it back to the UK since Michaels’ recovery, but the fact that Motley Crue still play arenas over here should demonstrate that there’s plenty of demand for this kind of show; it can only be a matter of time.

American rock outfit Poison really do set the bar high in the field of glam metal. Innovators of their time, the band who have been working for over thirty years amassed a huge following during their heyday and many of those fans still attend their shows to this day.

Having achieved a great deal of commercial success in the 80's and 90's, the band now tends to play a setlist featuring a selection of their hits as well as their own personal favourite material to showcase their abilities. The gig sways between these two mentalities, the crowd are loudly singing along to 'Unskinny Bop' before clapping along intently to coax on the musicians as they perform complex guitar and drum solos.

The biggest cheer of the evening is reserved for the encore of 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn' and 'Nothing But A Good Time' which both include extended instrumentals and those recognisable anthemic choruses. Despite the band no longer being a frequenter of the charts, their iconic glam rock status remains unchallenged.

Awesome show!! I have seen a lot of concerts from 1980 forward, in all this time I have never seen a frontman so full of energy and get the crowd into the show the way Bret Michaels did! He is by far the best frontman I have seen. The band sounded great and the lighting show was fantastic. Tesla opened the show and the crowd remained sitting most of the show but when Bret came on stage everyone was standing and remained so all night. All in all it was a magnificent high energy show and I would go again!

The Poison,Cheap Trick & Pop Evil NJ show was amazing. They were all energetic and had great stage presence. All front men were great!Since this is a Poison review, I give them a 100%. From the opening flames, commentary, tribute dancing and singing.. til the very end, completely impressed. Hope they will continue to rock for many more years to come!

Great as always. 4th time seeing them. Bret never disappoints. And hearing him talk about veterans and people serving in the military really touches my heart, as my son is on his third deployment for the Air Force.

Poison Play First Show in Four Years at Stadium Tour: Set List, Video

Poison  helped launch the long-delayed Stadium Tour — an all-star event also featuring Motley Crue , Def Leppard  and  Joan Jett  — Thursday in Atlanta, marking the band’s first concert in nearly four years .

They started their set with "Look What the Cat Dragged In," the title track from the Bret Michaels -fronted group's 1986 debut album . From there, the hits kept coming, with Poison barely catching their collective breath as they rolled from one song into the next. Highlights included renditions of such classic tunes as "Talk Dirty to Me," "Your Mama Don't Dance," "Unskinny Bop," "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Nothin' But a Good Time."

Perhaps the biggest moment came roughly halfway through Poison's set. Guitarist C.C. DeVille delivered an incendiary solo while covering Van Halen 's famous instrumental tune "Eruption," sending the crowd into a frenzy.

See Poison's full set list and fan-shot video below.

The Stadium Tour was originally booked for summer 2020 but was postponed and then postponed again due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The trek continues June 18 in Miami and currently wraps Sept. 9 in Las Vegas.

Poison's most recent studio album, 2007’s Poison’d! , featured cover versions of songs by David Bowie , Sweet , Alice Cooper , Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers , the Who and the Rolling Stones , among others. Since then, Michaels has largely focused on his solo career, including his 2020 memoir , Bret Michaels: Auto-Scrap-ography Volume 1: My Life in Pictures & Stories .

2024 open championship odds, picks and pga tour predictions, share this article.

The final major championship week of the season is upon us. The 2024 Open Championship will be held at Royal Troon in Scotland, the 1st time this course will host the historic event since 2016 when Henrik Stenson outdueled Phil Mickelson to win the Claret Jug.

Below, we look at BetMGM Sportsbook’s 2024 Open Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions .

After skipping last week’s Genesis Scottish Open, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is back in the field this week for the 4th major of 2024 — he’s also No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

Scheffler is once again the betting favorite, coming in with odds of +550. Rory McIlroy has the 2nd-best odds at +800, the only other player in the field under +1000. The reigning Champion Golfer of the Year, Brian Harman , is +6600 to defend his title and retain the Claret Jug.

Royal Troon is a traditional links-style course with strategically placed pot bunkers and mounding fairways that lead to plenty of rollout off the tee. The greens are smaller than other courses on the Open rota, putting an added emphasis on approach accuracy and scrambling ability. It’s a par 71 and 7,385 yards long, 195 yards longer than it played in 2016. With the course being on the coast, wind is sure to have a significant impact on the playing conditions, too.

Open Championship – Expert picks

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook ; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Monday at 7:20 p.m. ET.

Rory McIlroy (+800)

McIlroy is going to win another major at some point … right? This week feels like a golden opportunity for him to bounce back from the U.S. Open heartbreak at Pinehurst at a course that should suit him well. He just needs to figure out how to close on Sunday and kick the putter into gear in the final round.

Collin Morikawa (+1600)

As due as McIlroy is for a win, so is Morikawa. His worst finish in his last 9 individual events is a T-16 at the Wells Fargo in May. He has 6 top-10 finishes in that span and 5 top-5s, which is incredible considering he didn’t manage to secure a win. With Royal Troon being more of a positioning course rather than a bomber’s track, it should suit Morikawa and his accuracy well.

Viktor Hovland (+3300)

Hovland seems to have gotten back on track despite falling down the leaderboard Sunday in the Scottish Open and he’s always been a strong links player. He’s finished 12th, 4th and 13th in 3 career Open Championship starts, so his track record in this tournament is excellent.

Open Championship picks – Contenders

Tom kim (+4000).

Kim was a co-runner-up to Harman last year, albeit 6 shots behind the champion. He’s been very good in links tournaments before, including the Scottish Open where he just finished 15th. His play in the last month has been impressive, too, highlighted by a runner-up to Scheffler at the Travelers Championship.

Tony Finau (+4500)

Finau just seems tailor-made for the Open Championship. He’s a terrific ball striker and putting isn’t as critical on these links-style courses, which has led to some impressive finishes in the Open before. Prior to missing the cut last year, he finished 28th or better in 6 consecutive starts, including a 3rd-place showing in 2019.

Aaron Rai (+5500)

Rai is playing some outstanding golf at the moment, finishing in the top 20 in 5 straight starts – a stretch that includes the U.S. Open (T-19) and Genesis Scottish Open (T-4). His record in links events is strong, too, finishing 19th in the Open in 2021.

Louis Oosthuizen (+5500)

At one point, Oosthuizen was one of the best major players in the world and he’s finished runner-up or better in all 4 majors during his career, winning the Open in 2010. A move to LIV Golf has taken the spotlight off of him, but Royal Troon fits his game well because it’s a shorter links course. He has 5 top-10s in 11 starts on LIV this season, too.

Open Championship picks – Long shots

Alex noren (+8000).

Noren cooled off with consecutive missed cuts at the U.S. Open and Rocket Mortgage Classic but he got back on track last week in the Scottish Open where he tied for 10th. He has 11 top-25s in 17 starts this season and has 4 top-25s in his last 5 Open Championship starts – a nice combination of recent form and event history.

Dean Burmester (+12500)

Burmester, another LIV player, finished 12th in the PGA Championship and made the cut at the U.S. Open, his only 2 major starts this year. He has a win and 2 other top-5s on LIV this season and finished 11th in the Open 2 years ago.

Where to watch Team USA vs. Australia: TV channel, game time, live stream, odds for exhibition

Team usa is to again be without kevin durant in the squad's second olympic tune-up.

lebron-usa-getty-1.png

Team USA is back in action Monday as the Americans continue their pre-Olympics tune-ups with an exhibition matchup against Australia. Team USA took down Canada in an exhibition game in Las Vegas last week before traveling to Aub Dhabi. LeBron James, Stephen Curry and company will face Australia and Serbia in Abu Dhabi before playing two more exhibitions in London.

They open the Olympics against Serbia on July 28. Here's the full schedule .

And below is all the info for Monday's clash with Australia. The Aussies have a roster with plenty of NBA talent, including Patty Mills, Dante Exum, Josh Giddey, Duop Reath and Jock Landale. Australia picked up its first-ever Olympic medal three years ago, picking up Bronze at the Tokyo Games.

Team USA basketball vs. Australia

Time : 12 p.m. ET | Date : Monday, July 15 Location : Etihad Arena -- Abu Dhabi, UAE TV channel : FS1 | Live stream : fubo (try for free) Odds : USA -19.5 | O/U: 188.5

Kevin Durant is expected to miss Team USA's game on Monday. Durant has been dealing with a calf strain, and he missed yet another practice on Saturday. Still, USA coach Steve Kerr is not worried about Durant's status for the actual tournament, which begins in late July.

"I know there's still a couple of weeks before we have to make a decision roster-wise," Kerr said. "So we're just taking it day by day." While Derrick White has replaced the injured Kawhi Leonard for Team USA, Kerr has thus far signaled that he expects Durant to be available when the games count and that the team is not yet planning for a replacement.

"It's not something we've even discussed at this point because we feel good that [Durant] is going to be OK," Kerr said.

If Team USA does need to replace Durant before the tournament begins, an obvious candidate would be Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown , who publicly grumbled about missing out when Team USA named Celtics teammate Derrick White to the roster instead of him. White shares a position with Leonard and Durant, and White, a small guard, does not replicate either of their skill sets.

However, if Brown's cryptic social media comments have turned Team USA off, there are still several viable options to replace Durant if they need to. Team USA named a 41-player pool of options before whittling the roster down to 12. Of those 41 players, 27 remain if you exclude all currently rostered players, Leonard, White and Brown: Jarrett Allen , Paolo Banchero , Desmond Bane , Scottie Barnes , Mikal Bridges , Jalen Brunson , Jimmy Butler , Alex Caruso , De'Aaron Fox , Paul George , Aaron Gordon , James Harden , Josh Hart , Tyler Herro , Chet Holmgren , Brandon Ingram , Kyrie Irving , Jaren Jackson Jr. , Cam Johnson, Walker Kessler , Damian Lillard , Donovan Mitchell , Chris Paul , Bobby Portis , Austin Reaves , Duncan Robinson and Trae Young .

For now, though, Team USA's hope is clearly to get Durant back on the floor. In addition to being an NBA star, Durant is Team USA's all-time leading scorer in Olympic play with 435 points. He has won three gold medals and is playing for his fourth, and he has never missed an Olympics since making the team for the first time in 2012. He has become the mainstay of USA Basketball, and it would take a significant health issue to keep him off of the roster.

Real madrid’s pre-season & u.s. tour dates as team returns to training.

Carlo Ancelotti and his players returned to work on Monday, July 15th.

Monday, July 15th, marks the start of Real Madrid’s pre-season preparations ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, which will kick off in earnest with the UEFA European Super Cup on August 14th against Europa League winners Atalanta at the stadium Narodowy in Warsaw, Poland.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti had a depleted squad available to him for the medical checks and first session of the new season, owing primarily to the fact that many of his regular stars have been busy in action in the European Championships and the Copa América. As a result, they are enjoying an extended vacation period before travelling back to the Spanish capital to begin preparations for the new season.

The club are keen to reunite everyone as quickly as possible to begin full squad training, as demonstrated by the club’s reluctance to allow players to join their nations for the Olympic Games .

There will first be two weeks of training at the club’s base in Madrid at their Valdebebas center, before then heading on a tour of the U.S. The expectation from the club is that players who were eliminated before the semi-finals of any international tournaments, such as Luka Modrić and Andriy Lunin, rejoin before that starts on July 28th.

Real Madrid’s U.S. tour dates

July 28th is when Real Madrid will travel across the Atlantic for their tour of the U.S., which will include three exhibition games across the country in the space of a week.

Unlike in previous years, where the club have based themselves out of UCLA and travelled for friendlies, with four the usual number, this year the squad will be based on the east coast but with no fixed training base.

Their first game will take place in Chicago, at the Soldier Field stadium, where Real Madrid will take on Italian side AC Milan at 8:30pm CT in their first match of the new season.

Following that, they will fly to New Jersey, where they will then play the now traditional pre-season ClĂĄsico against FC Barcelona on August 3rd, with a 7pm ET kick-off. It will be the first time Carlo Ancelotti takes on the Blaugrana under new coach Hansi Flick, in what could be an intriguing encounter at the MetLife Stadium.

The tour will wrap up at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, where Real Madrid will kick off their final exhibition game at 7pm ET against Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea.

The squad will then return to Europe, most likely on August 8th, to enjoy a few days of training and rest at their home base before traveling to Poland on August 12th, two days ahead of the Super Cup final which proceeds their La Liga debut on Sunday of that week, August 18th, against Mallorca.

When Will Kylian Mbappé Join The Squad?

Given France’s qualification for the Euro 2024 semi-finals, where they lost to Spain, it is not expected that new superstar signing Kylian MbappĂ© will join the club for their U.S. tour.

Instead, he is expected to join the team for training in their base in Valdebebas from August 6th. There, he will join the likes of French team-mates, Aurélien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Ferland Mendy, as well as those of other nations, such as Dani Carvajal, Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde.

They will begin their preparations in time to have completed the usual initial pre-season medical examinations and fitness checks before the rest of the squad arrive from the US to begin preparations for the European Super Cup.

As such, it is expected that Mbappé will not be available until the game in Poland, though even then he is unlikely to start for Los Blancos unless Carlo Ancelotti believes him to be in great condition.
