ABOUT ROBIN THICKE

Robin Thicke is a five-time GRAMMY® Award nominee, diamond-selling performer, actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Born in Los Angeles, Robin Thicke taught himself to play piano at the age of 12 and by 16 was writing and producing songs for top R&B artists. At the age of 21, he had written and produced songs on over 20 gold and platinum albums including Michael Jackson, Marc Anthony, Pink, Christina Aguilera, Usher, Jennifer Hudson and others. One year later he signed with Jimmy Iovine and Interscope records. The musician and composer released his critically acclaimed debut album, A Beautiful World, in 2003 under the name Thicke. The collection was followed by a succession of five critically acclaimed gold and platinum selling album releases. Robin’s sixth studio album, Blurred Lines, was released in July on 2013. The album garnered four GRAMMY nominations. His 2013 sixth album, Blurred Lines crashed the Billboard Top 200 at #1 and produced the RIAA Diamond-certified title track, “Blurred Lines” [feat. T.I. & Pharrell]. The song made history, clutching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks. The hit single garnered Thicke as the first artist to simultaneously occupy the #1 spot on the Hot 100 and Top 200 since 2012, putting him in an elite group of 17 other acts to accomplish this feat in the previous decade. “Blurred Lines” scored the highest audience ever recorded and broke records by climbing to #1 on 5 radio charts simultaneously (Top 40, Rhythm, Urban, Hot AC & Urban AC) –the first time this has ever been done by an artist.

Thicke joined the panelist of judges on FOX’s dynamic reality singing competition, “The Masked Singer,” alongside Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger and show host, Nick Cannon which has received tremendous rating success and critical acclaim. In 2021, Thicke ascends to new heights with his first studio album in six years – On Earth, and in Heaven – a nod to the loss and celebrations and growth through the years. The album includes the No. 1 single on the Billboard Album R&B Songs Chart, “That’s What Love Can Do,” as well as a new Pharrell collaboration with “Take Me Higher,” which has been spotlighted as the ESPN/ABC Primetime song for the NBA season.

Ne-Yo, Robin Thicke & Mario at Shoreline Amphitheatre

Ne-Yo is R&B royalty. Undeniably, his effortless swagger, mastery of R&B tunes, and powerful lyricism turned him into one of the best R&B musicians of the 2000s. Since his rise into music industry stardom, his repertoire has expanded to rapping, acting, dancing, and record production. Returning to humble beginnings, Shaffer Chimere Smith was raised by musician parents, who exposed him to R&B music. He joined an R&B group during his teenage years, which opened doors for his solo career in 2000. However, his breakout moment was not a result of his solo releases; it was because of his songwriting for the mainstream hit song "Let Me Love You," sung by Mario. This became his stepping stone to succeed in his solo career. Overall, Ne-Yo released nine albums, most of which are consistent hits—his most recent being "Self Explanatory," which came out in 2021. Also, his successes led to him becoming one of the most decorated R&B artists, winning three Grammy Awards in only two years.

No one will forget the catchy and upbeat song "Blurred Lines," which dominated airplay and streaming sites in 2013. The man behind the music is Robin Thicke. As noticed in his hit song, he is among today's most charismatic R&B singers. He is a songwriter, singer, and producer with works dating back to the early 2000s. Despite being popularly known for a 2013 song, he first captured attention in 2006 for his album "The Evolution of Robin Thicke." This was a precursor to three more hit albums; Something Else (2008), Sex Therapy: The Session (2009), and Love After War (2011). Then came the 2013 massively successful album "Blurred Lines," considered one of the best-selling records in music history. Following the smash hit are "Paula" (2014) and "On Earth and in Heaven" (2021).

Before Ne-Yo, Mario influenced the R&B sound with his refined and contemporary style found in no one else. He broke into the scene at 14 and has constantly perfected his sound. He is best known for the 2004 album "Turning Point," which featured the song that catapulted his and Ne-Yo's career to mainstream stardom. He released six albums, with "TBA" released next year.

Ne-Yo headlines his "Champagne and Roses" tour this year alongside R&B stars Robin Thicke and Mario. See them at the Shoreline Amphitheatre on Wednesday, October 4.

“On his latest, eighth album, he showcases that still-distinctive voice. Across 13 tracks he meanders from spoken-register entreaties on Layin’ Low to melismatic runs on Don’t Love Me and breezy falsetto on Want It All or Nothing,” the Guardian shares.

Robin Thicke is an American singer-songwriter, producer, actor, who is signed to Pharell Williams’ Star Trak record company. His debut record, titled "A Beautiful World," released back in 2003. He is mostly known globally for his 2013 hit single "Blurred Lines" which is still one of the best-selling singles to date.

Mario Dewar Barrett, also known by his stage name, Mario was born and raised in Baltimore. At the age of fourteen, he was successful in securing a record deal with J Records. From there, his self-titled debut album was published in 2002 which included the top 10 single, "Just a Friend 2002." The pop singer is best known for his chart-topping hits “Let Me Love You” and “How Do I Breathe.”

The concert will be taking place in the Blossom Music Center, a venue designed for serious listening, unlike many open-air halls. No columns can obstruct sightlines inside the slanted pavilion, and unique amplification on the grass reaches even the farthest corners of the grounds.

Ne-Yo, Robin Thicke & Mario at Freedom Hill Amphitheatre

If you’re a pop and R&B fan, you probably don’t need to be told who Ne-Yo is. The chart-topping performer has become one of the most influential artists and record producers in modern R&B. Before hitting it big in 2006, Ne-Yo was already an accomplished record producer and songwriter. He notably penned the 2004 megahit, “Let Me Love You,” performed by Mario. But thanks to the single's success, Ne-Yo was invited to work with Def Jam Records. The partnership turned into a long-tenure contract that lasted until 2011. In 2006 Ne-Yo released his breakout hit, “So Sick,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and the U.K. chart. The song later certified platinum in several countries, including the U.S., due to its incredible commercial success.

Ne-Yo’s 25-year career has resulted in nine critically-acclaimed studio albums, five of which went to number 1 on the Billboard 200 or Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. He has sold over 20 million copies worldwide and earned multi-platinum, platinum, or gold in several countries. His exemplary work has also earned him several accolades, including three Grammy Awards, two Soul Train Music Awards, and two BET Awards, among others.

When he’s not working on his own music, Ne-Yo is a music producer for other renowned artists like Jay-Z, Beyonce, Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Janet Jackson, and many more.

Fellow Grammy Award-winning singer, Mario, rose to prominence in 2002 with the single “Just a Friend 2022.” The song, which peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 3 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, was featured in Mario’s self-titled debut album, which broke into the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Two years later, Mario released the massive hit single “Let Me Love You.” The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and was later certified platinum and multiple platinum in several countries, including the U.S.

Ten years into his career, Robin Thicke released the mega-hit “Blurred Lines.” The song topped the charts in 23 countries, including the U.S. and the U.K. The single, spawned from his 2013 album (also titled Blurred Lines), is certified diamond in the U.S. and France. Meanwhile, it also earned multiple-platinum status in several other countries. Thicke has released a total of eight albums and 30 singles. He has amassed approximately two billion streams across streaming platforms like Youtube and Spotify.

The Masked Singer prize revealed - find out what the winner gets

Surprising contestants: mickey rourke.

Social media  users were quick to call out the Fox show in 2020 after actor  Mickey Rourke  became the first person to ever self-eliminate.

Dressed up as a Gremlin, the former boxer decided to take off his mask and reveal his identity immediately after his performance of Stand by Me.

While  Nick Cannon  attempted to stop him Mickey managed to take off his mask before the host could intervene.

Fans of The Masked Singer took to  Twitter  to share their commentary on the shocking moment.

One fan said: "So uh… that was the weirdest episode of #TheMaskedSinger ever."

Surprising contestants: Nick Cannon

After  taking a hiatus  from his hosting duties during the first half of the 2021 season, Nick Cannon returned to the stage he has long called home to take back the mic from his temporary replacement,  Niecy Nash .

After he  took his Bulldog mask off , the judges were shocked by the unexpected reveal as their former host had "come back home."

Fans called it the strangest twist in the show's history.

Surprising contestants: Dick Van Dyke

In Season 9, Dick Van Dyke was the Gnome and he sang Frank Sinatra’s When You’re Smiling.

Dick, 97, was the season’s first contender to be eliminated, and he only got to sing once. He did, however, make everyone in the room cry.

Robin and Nicole guessed Dustin Hoffman, while Ken guessed Robert DeNiro.

Nobody on the panel suspected it was Dick, so when he was exposed, everyone was  taken aback .

“We are so honored to have you on our show,” Nicole told him.

Ken said that Dick was the “greatest  reveal  ever.”

Surprising contestants: Tony Hawk

Tony Hawk, a former skateboarder, portrayed the Elephant in Season 3, though he was eliminated from the show following his first performance.

He stunned everyone by performing Friday, I’m In Love by The Cure.

The skateboarder further  confused  the panelists by singing it in a British accent.

None of the judges guessed him, and neither did the audience.

Masked Singer shocks judges AND fans with skateboard legend Tony Hawk reveal

Surprising contestants: caitlyn jenner.

On Season 5,  Caitlyn Jenner  was revealed to be the Phoenix after performing Tik Tok by Kesha on the second episode of the season.

Unfortunately, that was her only appearance on the show.

Despite the panel correctly guessing who it was, fans online were  floored at the reveal .

Surprising contestants: Bob Saget

The late actor competed on Season 4 of  The Masked Singer  as the Squiggly Monster but was unfortunately eliminated on Week Six.

Jenny and Robin’s first guess was Bob, and they stayed with it to the finish. Ken also ended up guessing him the by the finale.

Despite the fact that most of the panelists had predicted him, it was nonetheless surprising because he was such a famous star.

On January 9, 2022, the beloved actor  died  at the age of 65.

Surprising contestants: Sarah Palin

Viewers and judges alike were  taken aback  when the Bear Mask appeared on the competition program and rapped.

No one expected former  Alaska  Governor  Sarah Palin  to be hiding behind the mask.

She sang Sir Mix-a-Lot’s I Like Big Butts, which prompted the panel to guess Tiny Fey, Christina Applegate, Jodie Sweetin, and Candace Cameron Bure.

Jenny remarked before she was unmasked that it was “driving her crazy.”

Host  Nick Cannon  said: “Oh my God. You guys will not believe it,” when she took her mask off.

“This might be the most shocked I have ever been on this show.”

Surprising contestants: Kermit The Frog

In Season 5,  Kermit The Frog  was revealed to be the Snail Mask, which was one of the most  stunning  unmaskings on the show.

Most people are familiar with Kermit’s voice from his hit song, Rainbow Connection, but no one anticipated seeing a puppet on the show.

Kermit  sang  Hall & Oates You Make My Dreams, and his voice sounded a little different than usual.

Unfortunately, he was the first to be eliminated on the season premiere.

Inside The Masked Singer's most shocking reveals

Unmasking is faked.

It’s true that the entire audience is present for the first half of the  unmasking , where the singer appears to struggle with taking their mask off.

But the singer never removes their mask and is promptly escorted offstage while most of the audience is directed out also in hopes of ensuring the unmasking stays a secret,  E! News  reported.

Next, a small portion of the audience that was left is directed to the front of the stage to watch the unmasking go down.

About what the winner gets

The Masked Singer champion  receives a trophy with a mask on it as their  prize for winning  the season.

There is no cash prize on the show or donation to a charity of the celebrity’s choice, but contestants are paid to appear on the show.

Technically, they do walk away with bragging rights.

Basis of The Masked Singer

The Masked Singer is a secret singing competition in which celebrities face off against one another in costumes concealing their identity.

Whoever is crowned winner of the singing competition  gets to take home a grand prize  – a trophy with a mask on it.

There is no other prize aside from the trophy and the contestants are likely not paid to appear on the show, they simply participate for “fun."

Contestants are compensated

Performers are paid  per week for the episodes they appear in, and receive a signing bonus.

Each contestant has no definitive salary, and the dollar amount most likely varies according to the magnitude of the star performing.

Controversial unmasking caused commotion in 2022

The former mayor of New York  caused a commotion amongst the judges  when he was unmasked in February 2022.

When  Rudy Giuliani  took off his Jack in the Box costume, judges  Ken Jeong  and  Robin Thicke  stormed off the stage in protest.

The show’s other panelists,  Jenny McCarthy  and  Nicole Scherzinger  stayed back and spoke to President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer.

The two women bantered with Giuliani, who has faced criticism due to his association with the former president.

US Masked Singer is based on another version

The Masked Singer  is based on the 2015  South Korean  show King of Masked Singer.

The contenders in the American series wear full-body costumes, but the participants in the South Korean version use masks and oversized clothing.

The show was such a hit in South Korea that it was replicated in  China ,  Vietnam , and  Thailand , according to  Insider .

Here were the Group A finals performances on Wednesday’s Episode 7, “Queen Night”:

Song: “The Show Must Go On,” by Queen

Panel guesses: Hilary Duff, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens

Clue: Delivered by Galileo, who reveals she’s connected to Ken. “Well, Ken, you’re ridiculous and you have so much heart, and I love it so much. You obviously haven’t changed since the last time we worked together.”

Package voiceover: “I’m so excited that I’m in the Group A finals! I really tried to appreciate every moment. Because I’ve learned that life comes in waves. I had just gotten a dream role. But the night before my debut, I received the worst news I could have ever imagined. I lost my No. 1 supporter. Nothing could have prepared me for that. I felt like I couldn’t move. But then I remembered, there was no one in the world that enjoyed watching me perform more. So, I reached down inside and found the courage to take that stage. And I performed for the one seat that wasn’t filled. It was heartbreaking, but so beautiful to honor them. It was one of those ‘the show must go on’ moments. And I had the resilience and strength to push through because of everything they had taught me. And this song is for them.”

Previous songs: “Vampire,” by Olivia Rodrigo, “Baby Come Back,” by Player

Previous panel guesses: Lea Michele, Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen, Sarah Hyland, Kristen Stewart, Nina Dobrev

Song: “Under Pressure,” by Queen and David Bowie

Panel guesses: Kate McKinnon, Amy Schumer, Kate Flannery

Clue: Magician reveals, she’s connected to Jenny. “Jenny, last time we hung out, I offered you tickets to my show. You can consider this one on the house too.”

Previous songs: “Material Girl,” by Madonna; “21 Guns,” by Green Day

Previous panel guesses: Catherine O’Hara, Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph

Ugly Sweater

Song: “I Want to Break Free,” by Queen

Panel guesses: Smokey Robinson, Aaron Neville, Charlie Wilson

Clue: Connected to Nick. “Nick, listen. I never forget giving you dating advice. And honestly, you didn’t forget either.”

Package voiceover: “I love being this colorful sweater, and making it to the Group A finals. I can’t wait to honor Queen with a song about freedom, baby! They say what’s old is new again. And I should know. I’ve been upcycle, and recycled more times than I can count. Inspired everyone from Snoop Dogg to Nirvana. Talk about a fashion statement! I even worked with the legendary Tupac. I like to keep that tidbit in my pocket. Yep, you can say I’ve influenced a circle of stars. All by doing my own thing. As a sweater who was once tossed aside, getting to the quarter finals will show you can always break free from anything. Whether it’s your past, your dirty laundry or your skinny jeans. Just roll up your sleeves, and do what you love like it’s going out of style!”

Previous songs: “The Best,” by Tina Turner; “Brick House,” by Commodores
