SALA’S CAMP

Apple’s new iOS 18 Web Eraser might let you pick which parts of a website to block

The main attraction of WWDC 2024 will be iOS 18 , and all the AI features that Apple is building into the iPhone’s operating system. The Safari browser will certainly be part of that upgrade. We’ve already seen some leaks indicating that new AI features are coming to Apple’s browser.

Safari 18’s purported AI capabilities and ad-blocking features are currently in testing, according to Apple Insider .

The blog details some of Safari’s upcoming AI features. For example, Apple is working on an Intelligent Search tool that could use on-device AI to identify topics and phrases. From there, the feature could summarize web content. If it sounds familiar, that’s because other GenAI products can offer web summarization. The big difference here is that Apple might process data on the iPhone and Mac rather than sending everything to the cloud.

Additionally, Apple is reportedly working on a Visual Lookup feature for Safari that will offer information about the contents of images. However, it might not be ready until 2025.

The upcoming Safari ad-blocker feature might be more interesting to some people than any AI tool. It’s reportedly called Web Eraser in the Safari 18 version that Apple is testing. It will reportedly let you block specific parts of a web page. The tool will basically let you erase ads and any other content you deem necessary.

Apple Insider says Apple might have copied the functionality from the third-party app 1Blocker, which lets users tap ads to make them disappear.

You won’t have to navigate to the Settings app to change the text size, access zoom, use extensions, or access the new Intelligent Search and Web Eraser tool. It’s certainly a welcome UI change that could make it easier to customize your Safari experience on a Mac.

Family attempted to file lawsuit against safari park where mother killed by tiger in vicious attack

The horrific incident took place in the middle of a siberian tiger enclosure in beijing.

The world was rocked back in 2016 after a woman was tragically mauled to death by a tiger at Beijing's Badaling Wildlife World.

The CCTV footage of the attack, which saw the woman's mother die trying to save her, eventually went viral on social media .

After the horrific incident, the woman's family attempted to file a lawsuit against the safari park after claiming they were the ones to blame for her untimely death.

The mother and daughter visited the wildlife park and were part of a long line of cars that approached the cage of a Siberian tiger.

The daughter, whose surname is Zhou, reportedly began to feel carsick and got out of the car and walked around to the driver's side.

In the footage, Zhou is then pursued by a huge tiger which savagely locks its teeth down on her dress and drags her away out of shot.

Her mother is also shown exiting the car and running towards her daughter in an attempt to save her life.

According to reports at the time, when Zhou's mother embarked on her rescue mission, another tiger from the enclosure approached and fatally attacked her, beginning to 'eat her alive' .

Zhou was transported to a local hospital and treated for her injuries as soon as rangers made their way onto the scene.

It has emerged that despite the mother and daughter signing an agreement that insisted they'd remain in their vehicle when exploring the wildlife park, however, the daughter claimed it wasn't clear enough.

Following the tragic death of her mother, Zhou swore she believed that the document she had signed was simply a form of registration, rather than the laying out of any strict rules.

She then went on to claim park owners had failed to adequately explain the risks about exiting cars and park rules.

The aftermath of this devastating incident and Zhou's belief about the document was that she then attempted bring about a lawsuit against Beijing's Badaling Wildlife World.

She alleged that as well as a failure to adequately explain the rules, park staff had a delayed reaction when attempting to save her family from tragedy.

Ultimately, authorities of the Yanqing District, Beijing, published a report that outlined the death was not an ‘industry security accident’, alleviating the wildlife park of any responsibility.

Much ado has been made about the celebrity turn out for Tiffany & Co.’s recent Blue Book reveal in LA last week and Pharrell’s recent jewelry collab with the house, but it’s high jewelry pieces are the reals stars of the house. “The caliber of craftsmanship in this collection is better than anybody out there… anybody ,” Victoria Reynolds, Tiffany & Co.’s chief gemologist and vice president of global merchandising told Robb Report at the launch in Beverly Hills. “And I’m not the type of person that throws that stuff around lightly. But it is the finest made collection of high jewelry that exists right now.” That statement shouldn’t be taken lightly from someone who has been at the brand for 33 years. She credits her boss, Tiffany & Co. president Anthony Ledru and the company’s recent owner, Bernard Arnault of LVMH, for the bandwidth and creative freedom to realize a collection of this magnitude. When pressed whether she actually meant an increase in budget, she laughed and said, “I do.” In other words, the team had the means to go above and beyond in terms of gemstones, craftsmanship, and design.

The collection takes its cues from archival Jean Schlumberger pieces, a perennial exercise from the brand, but here it’s taken to a new level. “The foundation that he built for the brand, joining in 1956, was enormous,” Reynolds says. “And think Nathalie’s [Verdeille, chief artistic officer at the company] charge, which she’s done an incredible job with is: He built the palace, she’s opening up the windows, and she’s doing what he wanted to do.” In other words, not even Schlumberger himself could have created the pieces in Tiffany & Co.’s 2024 Blue Book collection. Sure, the LVMH engine behind the brand supercharges resources, but today’s new technology has also helped realize increasingly complex creations. During Schlumberger’s era, jewelry was either first modeled in carved wax or metal, but now 3-D-printing technology has allowed for more trial and era. Reynolds says many of the pieces in the collection were modeled up to four times to tweak the volume, how the stones would be set, and how a piece might sit on the wrist or neck. “When you give it to the jeweler, you’re making a lot of decisions that you know are going to work,” she says. “And there’s still things that the jeweler has latitude to do, because it’s the hand of the person who makes it into a great piece of jewelry, but it had definitely provided us an enormous amount of great design ideas that [Schlumberger] would have loved to do, but couldn’t.”

According to a jeweler on site, one of the more technically challenging pieces to realize was the Iconic suite—pieces fashioned as a cluster of stars in sapphires, diamonds, platinum, yellow gold, and mother-of-pearl. The difficulty was working with three materials of such varying degrees of fragility—from ultra-fragile mother-of-pearl to soft yellow gold and hard platinum. Combining all three was extremely precarious. Naturally, the pièce de résistance, the Wings suite featuring a necklace punctuated with a diamond of over 20 carats, was also incredibly complex. All told, the collection was two years in the making and jewelers were reportedly working right up to the debut to get the pieces ready. Many of the pieces sold on the spot, such as the Arrow necklace in emeralds and diamonds (the bracelet and earrings are pictured here), so, per client request, these are now off-limits to press. But more will be rolling out this summer, so grab these while you can and stay tuned for what’s to come. We’ve had a sneak peek and there are some jaw-dropping pieces to come.
