Your Guide...

My name is Brandon, and I’ll be your guide through Historic Savannah. My background in the field of history is quite extensive. I graduated with distinction from the Virginia Military Institute (History Major, of course). My historic and interpretive skills were honed while serving as a Park Ranger at the Richmond National Battlefield Park. Additionally, I had an article published wherein I argued that Civil War battles may have caused rain (Ask me about it – I’ll try to send you the link. It’s OK to decline and call me a nerd.). All-in-all, I bring over fifteen years of historian/tour experience to our time together.

I’m also a member of the Georgia Historical Society, the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation, and the Friends of Honey Hill, an organization actively preserving and interpreting the Honey Hill Battlefield in South Carolina. Once you inevitably learn of my interest in craft beer, it will not surprise you to know I'm a co-founder and Board Member of Richmond Beeristoric, a 501(c)(3) that leads tours of beer-related historic sites in Richmond, Virginia.  

Tours are what I do for fun. My day job is that of attorney. I represent breweries, bars, and my firm’s attorneys in legal ethics and conflict of interest matters. As you can imagine, there’s plenty of work to be done there.  

I live in Downtown Savannah, and it’s exactly where I want to be. Thank you for giving me the great pleasure of showing you around my beautiful hometown.

We are passionate about sharing our history and heritage, and that means making our tours accessible to groups and families. This history belongs to the people, and we want as many as possible to appreciate and preserve it.

There are many tours in Savannah that tell good stories, but I've found they are  not always true. This is the first I've been on that combines good history with good story telling. My husband and I took the 1 hour history tour with Brandon and it was awesome! He was professional, very knowledgeable, and really passionate about Savannah's history. We learned a lot and had a great time. Would recommend to anyone visiting Savannah!

Exactly the kind of tour we were after. After walking by all of the over-dramatic ghost tours going on the same night, we were so glad we chose one rooted in history!

Highly recommend!! We did the 'dark history' tour as we visited Savannah in October and wanted to do something spooky but not paranormal. The level of research that went into this tour was incredible and Brandon was an excellent guide. He walked us all over some of the most historic parts of the city and incorporated a variety of topics that kept us engaged the whole time. He also took us to a couple of cool bars where we were able to grab some delicious sangria to walk around with. We will definitely be coming back to Savannah in the future, and will definitely be booking another tour. Well done!

Absolutely fantastic tour for the true history lover. The guide has poured so much heart and soul into this experience. It is clear that he deeply cares about his city and the integrity of the information he provides. He packs a ton into a short amount of time, so come ready to learn and soak it all in. Jones Street - Most Beautiful in America

I have been on almost all of the tours offered by Savannah True History Tours. Every time I take a tour with Brandon, I learn something new about the city I call home. I walk my dogs a lot around downtown Savannah and almost everyday I hear a walking tour go by and I'm amazed at some of the false information presented to people who have paid good money to learn about Savannah when they come to visit. Not only does Brandon make a considerable effort to research the history of our city but he also dispels a lot of myths you might hear on other tours. I don't think there's a better value for a walking tour in town, which leaves extra money in your pocket to grab a drink while strolling through Savannah and learning about our history!

This was a fantastic tour! The guide was knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the history of the city and the changes it has gone through since its founding. Equal parts fascinating facts, dramatic stories, and entertaining quotes, it's a great time. Brandon is great about answering questions and gearing the focus to the interests of the group, and keeps it friendly and casual. Definitely booking again the next time we're in town.

Wow! Just wow! We couldn't have been more impressed with Brandon and this tour. The website is pretty clear that this is very factual and well researched history from the area. We learned all sorts of wonderful and interesting tidbits about how Savannah began in 1733, the high and low tides of its history, and The way Savannah plays an integral role in the history of America in the past, present, and moving towards the future. Brandon did a wonderful job of walking us through different squares talking about the history of each square while wrapping in the over arching history of Savannah. His passion is evident in his storytelling and you get as wrapped up in them as he does. This is not a ton of walking and you are able to sit in shaded benches. We even stopped at Six Pence pub to grab a beer for the last half of the tour. We will be recommending this tour to everyone we know that heads to Savannah. We also plan to take one of his other tours the next time we come into the area.

Brandon promptly greeted our group at Johnson Square which was a perfect starting point for those who are attending conferences downtown. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Savannah and could answer a variety of questions our group developed along the way through history. The evening time is perfect for completion of a days work and dinner prior to the walk. Everyone enjoyed the evening and we are grateful for this experience while visiting Savannah.

Savannah True History Tours LLC

Overview Our Savannah History Walk is an excellent way to orient yourself with Savannah’s past. We start in Savannah’s oldest square and outline the founding of both Savannah and Georgia. From there we head south, square by square, discussing Savannah’s booms and busts.

Some topics covered include the Oglethorpe Plan for squares, the father vs. son atmosphere of Revolutionary Savannah, the city’s most famous duel, Presidential visits, the Civil War era and Federal occupation, the experience of Antebellum and post-War African Americans, and the city’s churches and historic homes. We’ll take our talk right up to the tourist boom brought on by a certain book, the growing Port of Savannah, and where the city goes from here. You’ll also hear about dozens of men and women who made this place what it is.

Consider this walk a true “sampler” of the city’s history. Whether a tourist or longtime resident, you’ll walk away with a greater appreciation of all things Savannah.
