A non-rev passenger’s dream

I never leave app reviews but this app is so amazing I felt compelled to. We were recently scrambling to get out of Honolulu after our plane broke and caused a snowball effect of all the other flights filling up. This app helped us easily and effortlessly ID90 back to the mainland. Since then we’ve become addicted to helping others by submitting loads and gaining credits. This app is extremely helpful and well designed. I do have two minor criticisms though and they both entail working with the newest iOS on an iPhone XS Max. The bottom icons (tips, loads etc) are illegible and hidden with the “swipe up bar.” The same goes for the scroll wheel when adding loads - it’s too easy to scroll and accidentally swipe up switching apps or worse, closing the app. And lastly, at the very top left near the back arrow under the time, if you are using any other app (phone for example) it’s nearly impossibly to hit the back arrow and not the inactive app. This becomes frustrating when you are multi-tasking and trying do things quickly. These are just simple fixes of the UI and would make the app work even more seamlessly. Overall I am very impressed with the robustness is this app and am so thankful something like it exists.

Developer Response ,

Hi there! Wow, thank you for the incredible review and the positive feedback! Great to hear we were able to help you get back home safe and sound! We are looking at improving the app especially for iPhone X Max and XS max users. When we designed the app, these phones weren't out yet and we're going to make some changes in the near future to make it easy to use on all phones! Thanks again, feedback like this makes us more dedicated to making this app even better for all non-rev users!

Multiple flts

I think this is thee absolute best app for flt crew ever!!! It requires us to help each other, what a concept!!! This is the way we should operate! Just one suggestion, that there be a way to apply a multi-leg segment option when it’s time to find the flt info for crew. When someone Send a request and it’s time for u to load in the numbers, we can only submit the load for one flt but what if the requestee has a connecting flt there’s no space for us to enter info for their 2nd segment. We don’t always get to take nonstops. Also can u explain why when I’m answering a request, many times I will hit the request and it opens up as if I got it, but it will disappear seconds later saying someone else got it first. Then why would it open on my screen as if I got it? Otherwise I LOVE STAFFTRAVELER!!!!
Thank you for joining and for your awesome feedback! You can already search for multi-leg flights by unchecking the 'Direct flights only' on the search results screen when searching flights. I wish you many happy flights!

Lifesaver for Commuters

First of all: Don’t expect to get loads on DL. They never respond, or (if you’re lucky) they respond just hours before departure when you’ve already made alternate plans. AA is bigger, and I always get responses from them, so I don’t buy the “They’re just inundated with requests” excuse. With that said, this app is essential for commuters. It has saved my bacon many times. In todays climate of crew shortages and cancelled flights, you need to be able to check changing loads on the fly so you can quickly move to plan B, C, or D to get to where you need to go. Yes, answering requests is very competitive, but if you put the time in you’ll be fine.
Hi! Thank you so much for your elaborate feedback! We really appreciate it! Besides the fact that DL is known to respond slowly, DL members also only get access to the loads 72 hours before the flight's departure. So that is as well a reason why they tend to let your request wait. Glad you are enjoying the rest of the app though. Feel free to message us at [email protected] if you have anymore questions. have a wonderful day! ✈️

Qantas frequent flyer changes: how does the revamped system work and who benefits?

The airline is adding more than 20m rewards seats on international and domestic flights

Qantas has unveiled long-awaited changes to its frequent flyer program, boosting the number of reward seats available and changing the way those seats are priced. What does Monday’s announcement mean for its 15.2 million frequent flyer members and who stands to benefit the most?

What are the changes?

The carrier has created more than 20m additional rewards seats on international and domestic routes across economy, business and first class fares, the pricing of which will vary in line with flight demand. Under the new Classic Plus Flight Rewards system, peak air fares mean higher points costs and vice versa.

The change, which the Qantas chief executive, Vanessa Hudson, said was one of the biggest expansions the carrier has made to the program in its 35-year history, gives customers more price transparency, with one frequent flyer point effectively carrying a fixed value of 1¢ for economy flights and 1.5¢ for business class flights.

Value wise, Classic Plus delivers an option halfway between Classic and Points Plus Pay seats, according to Daniel Sciberras, the editor-in-chief of Point Hacks.

“This new category is going to be fluctuating, depending on the price of the fare, but at a fixed rate of value – and it’s there to bridge the huge gap,” he said.

When do the changes come into effect?

Classic Plus bookings for international flights from 1 July are available from today. Domestic flights will follow later in the year.

Is this an improvement?

Five times more rewards seats are now available, which goes some way towards addressing longstanding criticism that the airline has too few Classic rewards seats. But that availability comes at a cost – Classic Plus seats will usually be more expensive, points-wise, to book than the popular but hard-to-find Classic seats.

Matt Graham, the editor of Australian Frequent Flyer, said: “Qantas had to do something because there have been a lot of complaints that people have a lot of points that they can’t use.” He added that he found the change underwhelming.

For those who have been accumulating points more successfully than they have been able to secure Classic bookings, the new offering gives them a way to spend points beyond the poor value and inflexible Points Plus Pay ($0.6c a point) and Qantas shop (about $0.5c a point) options. In some cases, Classic Plus offers similar or better value than Classic seats, such as for on-sale flights.

For Sciberras, the move is “definitely a plus, because they’re not taking anything away. It’s complementary to what already existed.”

Both he and Graham said they would look for Classic deals before turning to Classic Plus.

How does Classic Plus compare with Classic rewards?

Qantas has been open about Classic Plus generally being costlier than Classic. In many cases, that difference is large, particularly for premium long-haul flights, according to Graham.

“For those aspirational redemptions that most members save their points for, the cost is going to be substantially higher,” he said.

Take the example of a return flight from Sydney to Dallas, Texas. Graham found a Classic business class off-peak seat costing 253,000 points plus $675 taxes and fees. The same flight for Classic Plus customers cost 1,165,800 points plus $1,302 taxes and fees.

Points Plus Pay delivered the least value and flexibility, costing 3,131,167 points.

Both Classic and Classic Plus offer good flexibility. Unlike Classic, Classic Plus flights can be upgraded to first class.

after newsletter promotion

The system has its quirks – Graham said he had found dates on which premium economy Classic flights cost fewer points than Classic Plus economy flights, as well as return flights that were cheaper than one-way options.

How does this affect Classic rewards?

It doesn’t. The existing 5m Classic seats remain unchanged.

Who stands to gain most from the changes?

Those who have a surplus of points and miss out on the small number of Classic seats. And almost half a million Qantas Business Rewards members.

“If you’re a business owner and you’ve got a large credit card spend, you can be earning millions of points every year,” Graham said. “They just want to be able to take their family on holiday once a year and this is a way they’ll be able to find availability much more easily.”

How does Qantas frequent flyer now stack up against other reward programs?

“Qantas is one of the world leaders [in loyalty programs], they know how to engage their members so well,” Sciberras said.

Graham said he had hoped Qantas would release more Classic seats and introduce a Singapore Airlines-style second tier option, which is priced about 50% higher than its usual points rate but offers more availability.

“It’s very hard to get outsized value from the program when the points are fixed at a certain rate,” he said. “It removes some of the gaming element of trying to get more value out of your points.”

How important is the airline’s loyalty program?

Very, and increasingly so. Qantas’ Loyalty division is one of the company’s most lucrative areas year-on-year, especially at the height of the Covid epidemic The key is for the company to keep its members engaged, according to Sciberras, who believes the change “is probably going to be an overall good thing for Qantas”.

Will this help the brand after a bad year?

“Anything they can do which is good news of course is welcome … they want to show they are listening to customers,” Graham said.

The changes to the loyalty program follow a tumultuous period for the company but would have been in the making for many months, if not years, Sciberras said.

Qantas Frequent Flyer Program Changes: Here’s What They Mean For You

Updated: Apr 10, 2024, 9:32am

Table of Contents

Classic plus flight rewards vs classic flight rewards, points required for a classic plus seat vs a classic seat, is classic plus here to stay, frequently asked questions (faqs).

Qantas has announced the expansion of its frequent flyer scheme with the launch of Classic Plus Flight Rewards, which will allow frequent flyer members to access more than 20 million extra reward seats.

Scheme members can now book what is known as Classic Plus Flight Rewards seats on select Qantas international flights departing Australia, for travel from July 1 2024, on qantas.com. The airline plans to roll out the rewards across more flights, including domestic routes, by the end of the year. Flights with partner airlines are excluded.

Classic Plus Flight Rewards provides a third way to redeem Qantas points for flights. Members can alternatively use one of the other existing methods:

  • Classic Flight Rewards: Offering the best value for exchanging points for flights, the amount of points you’ll need varies depending on where you plan to travel. However, the amount of points required is fixed in that it won’t fluctuate if the ticket retail price rises or falls. Classic Flight Rewards include trips with partner airlines such as Jetstar, Fiji Airways, Air Vanuatu, and American Airlines. They have limited availability and Classic Flight Reward seats may not be available at all for certain flights or routes on certain days, so you may have to be flexible with your destination choice and dates to make the most of this reward. While five million of these reward seats are available each year, many frequent flyer customers have complained of limited availability on popular routes.
  • Points Plus Pay: Provides the most flight options throughout the whole year. However, the points required for each flight fluctuate in line with the retail price of the flight, and are quoted at time of booking. These rewards only apply to flights with Qantas and Jetstar, when the seats are available. Points Plus Pay offers less value for points compared to Classic Flight Rewards and the new Classic Plus Flight Rewards.

staff travel qantas app

Classic Flight Rewards continue to provide the best value for money overall when redeeming points. Qantas says that following the existing Classic reward seats, its new Classic Plus variety will be “one of the best ways to use points”.

The new reward will be applied to 20 million seats this year and similar numbers thereafter, while only 25% of this amount (five million) are available in Classic seats annually.

Both types of rewards offer the flexibility to combine cabin and fare type within the same booking. Frequent flyer members will also have the option to upgrade a Classic Plus seat to Premium Economy and Business, as they can with a Classic reward—one of the most popular ways to use points. Furthermore, from May 2024, they will also be able to exclusively upgrade Classic Plus Business seats to First Class.

Potential drawbacks of the Classic Plus reward include the ability of a flight’s points value to fluctuate in line with its dollar-price. The amount of points needed to book a Classic Plus seat will therefore be lower during off-peak seasons, or when booking early, and higher, during peak seasons. Classic Plus rewards will also typically require more points than a Classic seat, although the actual number may drop below that required for a Classic seat during sale periods. Finally, Classic Plus seats are limited to Qantas flights only, while Classic seats are also available on partner airlines.

As we’ve established, Classic Plus seats will offer many benefits, but generally, their points value is not necessarily one of them when compared to Classic seats.

Potential drawbacks of the Classic Plus reward include the ability of a flight’s points value to fluctuate in line with its dollar-price. The amount of points needed to book a Classic Plus seat will therefore be lower during off-peak seasons, or when booking early, and higher, during peak seasons

Qantas provides examples of what you can expect to pay in points, plus taxes, fees and carrier charges, for each type of reward, on popular routes. You can find these below. Bear in mind that the amount will differ during peak and off-peak seasons for a Classic Plus seat.

Economy Fares

Business fares.

You can anticipate using at least 16,100 more points on a Class Plus Economy fare from Sydney to Tokyo, a minimum 6,400 more when travelling from Brisbane to Singapore and at least 10,600 more when flying from Sydney to London. However, an off-peak Classic Plus flight seat from Sydney to Nadi, Fiji only requires 17,500 points compared to 18,000 with a Classic reward, highlighting that occasionally a Classic Plus flight can work out at better value.

You can expect to use a minimum 90,900 more points on a Classic Plus Business fare when flying from Sydney to Tokyo and at least 49,400 more when flying from Brisbane to Singapore, compared to when redeeming points on a Classic seat. This rises to 132,300 more points for a flight from Sydney to London. You’ll also have to pay more in taxes, fees and carrier charges for each flight.

During sales periods, you could save 2,900 points on an Economy flight from Melbourne to Auckland, using a Classic Plus Reward rather than a Classic one, and 9,700, if you use a Classic Plus Business reward rather than the Classic equivalent. However, you’ll need 29,000 more points for a Business Economy Classic Plus seat from Sydney to Los Angeles, compared to a Classic seat.

Qantas’ addition of the Classic Plus reward to its Frequent Flyer scheme marks what it calls the ‘biggest ever’ expansion of the programme, since it was established 35 years ago, and is set to be a permanent fixture.

Vanessa Hudson, Qantas Group Chief Executive, said: “The growth and success of Qantas Loyalty is driven by engaged members who earn and redeem points across the frequent flyer program, including with our partners, and that’s why we’re investing in making more seats available to book with points.”

The change follows complaints from scheme members about the devaluing of points and lack of available services, which were submitted to a senate inquiry into bilateral air service agreements, in October last year.

As a result of the inquiry, Qantas offered to work to resolve the concerns of those customers, and the the Bilateral Air Services Senate Select Committee recommended the government develop strong consumer protection measures to address the devaluation of loyalty schemes.

Qantas says the update to its scheme will make it easier for members to use their points to travel to places such as London, Tokyo, New York and Singapore, even during peak times.

What are Qantas Frequent Flyer points?

Qantas Frequent Flyer is the Qantas airline’s reward scheme for those who travel regularly using its services, or those of its partner airlines.

Members of the scheme can earn points on eligible purchases, from their everyday spend to flights and hotel bookings. These points can be collected and then redeemed when making future flight and hotel bookings, other travel-related purchases, or when spending in the online Qantas store. The value of a single point varies depending on what you spend it on. Our guide to the value of Qantas points explains all.

How can I start collecting Qantas points?

There are a number of ways you can earn Qantas points, including spending with its partners, and purchasing points online.

One way to collect points on your purchases is to use a Qantas points earning credit card. You can learn more about these cards and find our top picks . The credit cards our research found to be the best come with up to 100,000 introductory Qantas bonus points on signing up, helping you to rapidly reach your reward goals. When comparing cards, remember to check the number of points you can earn per dollar on eligible spend, as well as details such as a potential annual fee, and the interest rates.

How do I find a Classic Plus reward?

Qantas Frequent Flyer members should log into their accounts at quantas.com, and search for a flight using the booking tool, ensuring the toggle switch for ‘Rewards’ is on.

They will then be able to view when reward seats closest to their preferred travel dates, are available, across one-way or return flights. A red ribbon denotes an available Classic reward, and a blue ribbon, an available Classic Plus reward. Members can select the blue ribbon and follow the instructions to redeem their points for their reward.

When does Classic Plus Flight Rewards begin?

The rewards seats are available for international flights from July 1, which frequent flyers can book now via Qantas.com. Classic Plus Flight Rewards for domestic flights will be rolled out later this year.

ASX closed marginally higher

The Australian sharemarket has closed up on Monday, thanks to strong gains in industrials and tech.

The ASX 200 was up 16 points or 0.2 per cent to 7,789.

Energy sector (-1.4pc) was the biggest drag on the benchmark index, but that was offset by some big companies in tech and industrial sectors.

Here are the top and bottom movers at close.

Woolworths, Aldi and Coles support a mandatory code of conduct for the sector

Supermarket giants say they will support a mandatory code of conduct for   the supermarket sector, which is recommended in   an interim review by former Labor minister and economist Craig Emerson.

The federal government has given in-principle support a proposed multi-million-dollar penalty regime for the sector if grocers engage in anti-competitive behaviour.

Woolworths said the code should become mandatory for all large retailers and wholesalers of groceries to engender public trust and to level the playing field for retailers and wholesalers alike.

"The code should apply to all major retailers operating in Australia, including global retail giants such as Amazon and Costco, who have global revenues many times the size of Australian supermarkets, as well as to large Australia retailers such as Bunnings and Chemist Warehouse who also compete in grocery categories including everyday needs such as household products (e.g. cleaning), and personal care," a spokesperson said in a statement.

Coles said it remained committed to the objectives of the code in delivering value to its customers while maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with its valued suppliers.

"We support a mandatory code and would welcome the extension to other large companies that supply grocery products," Coles said in a statement. "We will continue to work constructively as part of this review process."

While   Aldi said it's been a voluntary signatory to the Australian Food and Grocery Code of Conduct since 2015 and supported the code becoming mandatory.

"These changes reflect our ongoing commitment to our supply partners," a spokesperson said in a statement.

"We are reviewing Dr Emerson’s recommendations for the food and grocery sector in the Interim Report in detail.”

Job ads on SEEK grew 2.4pc in March

March was the second time job ad levels rose in 2024, with every state and territory recording a positive result, according to data from SEEK.

"One industry which experienced a standout month was Information & Communication Technology, which grew again in March at 5.1%," Kendra Banks, managing director from SEEK, said.

"Not since October 2021 has this industry recorded consecutive monthly growth.

"Applications per job ad also rose 1.7% in February. This was led by a 10% rise in applications per ad within the Healthcare & Medical industry, notably for Aged Care Nursing roles.”

Record-breaking year for battery installations

A record number of batteries were installed across Australia in 2023, in homes, businesses and at grid-scale, according to a new report from solar and storage market analyst SunWiz.

According to the 2024 Annual SunWiz Australian Battery Market Report, a record 57,000 battery systems, or energy storage systems, were installed in Australian homes in 2023.

This represented 21% growth on installation levels from the previous year, 2022, and saw a record-setting 656 MWh of residential battery capacity come online.

All together, a record total of 2,468 MWh of energy storage capacity was deployed in Australia in 2023.

As the typical home uses 20kWh per day, the batteries installed in 2023 were enough to meet the energy needs of 125,000 homes.

SunWiz managing director Warwick Johnston said the report demonstrated batteries were already reshaping our energy supply.

"2023 was the year of the big battery, with deployment levels at twice their previous record. 2024 will be even bigger, with the capacity currently under construction at six times the amount at the same point last year," Mr Johnston said. "Despite the massive year for grid-scale storage, home energy storage systems still remain the largest cumulative source of battery capacity, at least for the time being."

Government supports massive penalty regime for Coles and Woolworths

The federal government has given in-principle support to recommendations for massive fines and a mandatory code of conduct for the supermarket giants.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers says the government wants to pursue a proposed multi-million-dollar penalty regime for the supermarket sector if grocers such as Coles and Woolworths engage in anti-competitive behaviour.

Former Labor minister and economist Craig Emerson's review recommended multi-million-dollar penalties for grocers mistreating suppliers, but did not back calls for break-up powers.

The government will consult before a final report is delivered by July.

Japan's Nikkei climbs 0.7% as investors scoop up beaten-down stocks

Japan's Nikkei share average climbed 0.7% on Monday as investors scooped up beaten-down stocks on the dip, with risk sentiment running high after markets caught the tailwind from a bounce on Wall Street.

The Nikkei was up 1.4% at 39,517.81 by the midday break, while the broader Topix rose 1.2% to 2,735.20.

The Nikkei hit an all-time high of 41,087.75 on March 22. However, the index has struggled to keep above 40,000 points, posting two consecutive weekly losses.

Last week, the benchmark index saw its worst weekly performance since December 2022 as US stocks slipped and profit-taking kicked in. The risk of currency intervention by Japanese authorities also weighed on the market.

Still, the Nikkei has gained 16.5% year-to-date, while analysts appeared to dismiss recent declines as signs of a larger reversal.

"It really is still a constructive bull pattern," said Tony Sycamore, a market analyst at IG. "That we've had a bit of a pullback I think reflects the fact that we're just starting to see the market in this holding pattern around dollar/yen."

The US dollar last traded at about 151.71 yen.

Local investors tracked Wall Street's upbeat performances on Friday following US job growth figures that exceeded forecasts.

Concerns over the Middle East crisis also eased, with no further deterioration in the situation in Gaza over the weekend.

Gains were widespread in the morning session on Monday, with 189 of the Nikkei's 225 constituents advancing versus 33 declining, and many of the index heavyweights rallied.

Uniqlo parent firm Fast Retailing climbed 2.1%, adding 90 index points to the Nikkei's 526-point gain. Chip-making equipment giant Tokyo Electron gave another 59 points, rising 1.6%.

Shares of staffing agency and publisher Recruit Holdings   gained 3.5%.

The largest percentage gainers were chip-related firm Socionext Inc   up 8%, followed by computer maker Fujitsu gaining 6%.

Farmers back calls for heavy fines for supermarkets

As prices on the supermarket shelves continue to increase, the federal government is under more pressure to act.

A new   government report stopped short of recommending powers to break up the big supermarket chains, suggesting instead that heavy fines and tougher enforcement would work better.

The interim report has been welcomed by farmers, who say the status quo isn't working for suppliers.

Qantas loyalty program expansion 'a positive move' overall : Finder

Comparison website Finder says the expansion of Qantas' frequent flyer program is "a positive move".

The airline is promoting 20 million extra seats available via frequent flyer rewards annually and says this will make it easier for the scheme's members to book a flight when using their points.

"The problem with Qantas previously was that it was easy to earn points but very, very difficult to use them to book rewards seats,"   Graham Cooke, head of consumer research from Finder, told the ABC. "Qantas were hoping customers would instead use their points on hotels and buying goods from the Qantas site, both of which offer far lower value. "What Qantas have done here is multiply the number of rewards seats available by 5, with the drawback being that the new seats cost a higher number of points - from 2 to 3 times the usual Classic Rewards cost, from my brief analysis this morning. "Overall this is a good thing, and brings Qantas up to a similar level to competitors like Singapore Airlines in terms of the ease of booking rewards seats - but it would have been nice to see the points cost match the existing Classic Rewards program. "

Financials lead gains on the Australian bourse

Australian shares rose in afternoon trade, with financial stocks leading gains, likely tracking Wall Street as strong US jobs data suggested a healthy economy even as it indicated a delay in Federal Reserve rate cuts.

The ASX 200 index rose 0.3% to 7,797 points by 12:15pm AEST. The benchmark closed 0.6% lower on Friday.

In the US, jobs data showed far more workers were hired in March than expected and wages increased steadily, suggesting a healthy economy even as it indicated delayed Fed rate cuts.

In the local bourse, rate-sensitive financials rose as much as 0.2%, with the big four banks advancing between 0.1% and 0.3%.

Gold stocks gained as much as 2.4%, hitting their highest level since May 5, 2023.

Gold miner Northern Star Resources   rose as much as 1.8%, reaching its highest level since November 17, 2020.

Healthcare stocks rose as much as 0.5% while technology stocks advanced as much as 1.2%.

Bucking the trend, energy stocks   fell as much as 0.9%, tracking falling oil prices.

Sector majors Woodside Energy and Santos fell as much as 1.5% and 0.6%, respectively.

Mining stocks   gained as much as 0.4%. Heavy-weight miners Rio Tinto and Fortescue jumped   between 0.7% and 1%. However, BHP lost 0.4%.

In company news, Beach Energy said it expected the first gas production from its Waitsia Stage 2 gas project in early 2025, instead of mid-2024, due to further quality issues.

The oil and gas explorer fell as much as 15.6% and was among the top drags on the benchmark.

Qantas frequent flyer program overhaul 'a modest negative short term': Citi

Qantas says it expects the Loyalty division to deliver underlying earnings before interests and taxes between $500 million and $525 million in FY24.

"On first pass, the change appears to be a modest negative short term including higher investment, lower margin and lower profit," analysts at Citi wrote. "In time, the hypothesis is this investment would stimulate volumes and earning activity that would outweigh costs, but mechanically would take time (18 months) to play out/prove up," they added.

Qantas said its new reward seats would be available to be booked from Monday across international flights departing from Australia for travel from July 1, and would be available across its full international and domestic network by the end of this year.

The Australian flag carrier also confirmed it would begin a stock buyback of up to $448 million, which it announced in February and expects to complete by June 30.

Ansell to buy Kimberley-Clark's personal protective equipment unit for nearly $1b

Australian glove maker Ansell   says it will buy the personal protective equipment unit of US-based Kimberly-Clark   for $US640 million ($974 million), and expects to complete the acquisition in the first quarter of financial year 2025.

The acquisition would be funded by a $400 million fully underwritten institutional placement and a new $US377 million bridge facility, Ansell said in a statement.

The personal protective equipment division of Kleenex tissue maker Kimberly-Clark is engaged in creating and retailing specialized safety goods such as gloves, protective clothing, and safety eye-wear.

"With this acquisition we are enhancing our sales of specialist products designed for clean room applications, while also widening our portfolio of products sold into Scientific verticals," Ansell Managing Director and CEO Neil Salmon said.

Under the deal, Ansell and Kimberley-Clark (K-C) will enter a transitional services arrangement whereby K-C will offer a range of business support services to Ansell's customers, suppliers, and employees within a maximum 12-month period.

Ansell said it expected about $US10 million per annum run-rate net cost synergies to be achieved by the third full year of ownership.

Shares of Ansell remain in a trading halt.

By Emilia Terzon

The agricultural business' stock is diving this morning , with it currently down more than 25%.

That's after it posted an update to the ASX, where it said its first half of the financial year to September 2024 was "significantly below expectations".

El Niño generally forecasts hotter and drier conditions.

And it says there's been a late winter crop in WA, also hitting conditions and buying.

Meanwhile, it says cattle and sheep prices are currently below the 10-year average , also hitting trade.

It says the outlook ahead is a bit more favourable, with wetter soil from the recent wet weather events.

A 'divide' is emerging in US economic policy, ANZ says

When will the Fed start cutting rates?

We all know economists love their crystal balls. This morning ANZ has a note out in which it comments on the growing uncertainty about the US Federal Reserve's movements.

"A divide appears to be opening within the Federal Reserve about the future path of inflation and thus policy," it reads.

"Some think that inflation remains on a bumpy path back to 2%, while others   think the downward trend in inflation may be stalling."

The Fed next meets to discuss interest rates on April   19 .

More issues hitting Boeing planes in the US

If you're a regular reader of ABC's business news, then you'll be across the powerful reporting by my colleague Nadia Daly into the woes impacting Boeing.

She has been examining ongoing safety concerns and the news that a company whistleblower has now died.

Now, a Boeing 737 has been turned around after its engine cowling fell off and struck its wing flap during take-off on a flight from Denver on Sunday local time.

The US Federal   Aviation Administration (FAA) said it would investigate the incident on the Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800.

Choas looming as telcos prepare to switch off 3G

More than a million mobile phones could be cut off from calling triple-0 within months, the ABC can exclusively reveal.

Telstra is due to switch off its 3G network on June 30 and Optus is expected to switch off the network in September meaning devices that rely solely on 3G will no longer operate.

Despite the deadline quickly approaching, about 113,000 Telstra customers have not yet upgraded their 3G handsets . Optus would not provide the ABC with a figure.

This situation is raising alarm about Australia's readiness for the imminent shutdown of the 3G network.
