I had a fantastic time with my G adventures group - the people were amazing, our CEO was incredible and played a huge part in making the entire trip an incredible and memorable experience! We all learned a lot about Thai culture and history, and of course the fantastic food - M shared his knowledge with us, and accompanied is to amazing food markets. Thailand is an incredible country with fantastic people, and I would love to come back for sure! This trip gave me the confidence to book an even longer tour with G adventures next time.

Bangkok and Golden Triangle, Small Group Tour Tour

Bangkok and Golden Triangle, Small Group Tour

I booked a Destination Services tour for myself and a friend, and we are both beyond pleased by the value and the experience. We had two guides: Sunny in Bangkok, and Thunder in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. They were both very friendly, spoke excellent English, and were so thorough in explaining to us everything that was going on - from our itinerary for the day to the history and cultural significance of the sites we visited. Our transportation was also perfect, with a cool van always ready to whisk us off to the next spot - with lots of bottled water always at hand! The transportation to and from airports was also a huge bonus and made us feel like we never had to worry about getting from city-to-city within Thailand. I felt both our guides and both our drivers went above and beyond in making us feel welcome, in answering our (many) questions, and in helping us when any minor issues came up (like needing to find a snack, a bathroom, a bandage - anything). With this company, I feel there is the perfect mix of scheduled tour time (which with the guides was always packed with adventure) and independent time to explore each city - or relax if needed. My only hesitation with the tour was that occasionally, we felt there was some pressure to buy at certain stores or make "donations" at various temples and villages. I realize that tourism is a huge source of income in the areas we visited, but not every tourist is able to or make (or comfortable with making) donations at each stop. At the end of the day, it was such a small issue compared to how wonderful everything else was, I would not hesitate to book with this company again. But I would have appreciated some kind of heads-up that this is so common place, which is why I mention it here. Other than that, I know we received an excellent deal and I felt our money was well spent. Our lodging, all breakfasts, guide, transport (except airfare of course), and tickets were covered, plus some extras like a buffet lunch or dinner. This was very convenient and made the trip so stress-free. Plus, our accommodations were stunning; we were booked at what I assumed were American-style Holiday Inn-level accommodations, but they exceeded my expectations by far. The hotels were just beautiful, with supportive and welcoming staff and beautiful buildings. Plus, it was such a luxury not to have to worry about where to stay, or what we were having for breakfast. (Plenty of options including fresh fruit at each breakfast buffet, yum!) As for Thailand itself, this was my second time in the country, and my friend and I are already planning our next trip. It's such a beautiful country. So unique and special. I will certainly think about Destination Services again!

What people love about 7 day thailand tours.

Ms Wassana and Ms Da took both of us on a wonderful trip around Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. They were very professional, friendly, knowledgable and took great care of us. For such a short trip, it seemed we covered a lot of memorable experiences - wonderful temples (especially the White Temple in Chiang Rai), amazing food, Chinatown, elephant sanctuary, white water rafting, NYE celebrations, Golden Triangle and border experiences just to name a few. Weather was excellent, our drivers made it easy getting from A to B - we really had a wonderful time. Many thanks to Tony at Legend Travel Group for the prompt communication and ease at which this was organised on your end. I recommend for anyone wanting a short highlight experience in these parts of Thailand.
Tour Operator • This tour essentially did the Mae Hong Son loop of northern Thailand. It was well-organized and went smoothly. The few minor hiccups along the way - which are bound to happen - were handled quickly and fairly by the tour operator, Bravo IndoChina Tours. Guide and Transportation: • Excellent guide (Aimy), informative and helpful, she really enhanced the tour (see itinerary) • Excellent driver (Mr. S), quick and efficient and I never felt nervous about his driving • Very comfortable van Accommodation: • Some accommodation was not that good, in particular, Hotel M Chiang Mai. The room on the first night had a strong sewer gas smell coming from the bathroom, and there was no hot water for the morning shower. The tour company arranged for the hotel to move us to a different room the second night, and it was better. However, on the last night (at the end of the tour), again there was no hot water. There are quite a few hotels to choose from in Chiang Mai and it should be possible to use a much better hotel for the same price or a very small increment in price. • The guest house in Mae Sariang was a little rustic but it is a small town where there is not much choice, so that is understandable. • The resort in Pai was very good, the best of the 3 hotels used. Itinerary: • The first day of the actual tour is very light, with just a visit to the Doi Suthep Temple in Chiang Mai. It seemed a bit like a wasted day. There are plenty of things to do in Chiang Mai; it should be simple to provide a full day of interesting things. Alternatively, drop the preceding night from the tour and reduce the cost accordingly. • The second day (Doi Inthanon National Park) was very good. The Royal Pagodas were the highlight, but overall the day was full and interesting. • The third day (Mae Sariang to Pai) was very good. The highlight was Lod Cave, it is really spectacular. • The fourth day the scheduled itinerary was rather light, but fortunately our guide enhanced it for us. We were able to go on a short hike at Pai Canyon which provided some spectacular views. We went to the actual hot springs, not the warm springs at Sai Ngam. And we watched a great sunset from the White Buddha Temple overlooking Pai. • The fifth day, in consultation with our guide, we essentially discarded the scheduled itinerary which largely consisted of a long drive to Lampang to see some temples. Instead we fed elephants outside of Pai, had great fun playing at the Bua Tong sticky waterfalls, and visited an amazing set of temples in Inthakhin. This was great value added by our guide. As it turns out, some of the best moments were these unscheduled stops.

Thailand Itinerary: 6, 7 or 8 days + My Best Tips

6, 7 or 8 days in thailand: the best itinerary.

You’re traveling to Thailand and you’re looking for the best 7-day Itinerary?

You’re at the right place!

In order to help you plan your stay , I have prepared two 6, 7 or 8 days itineraries in Thailand .

Organised based on your airport of arrival( Phuket or Krabi ), these itineraries in the South of the country will allow you to discover the most beautiful islands of the Andaman Sea and their dream beaches!

Quick note: If you prefer to v isit Bangkok , Ayutthaya and the northern city of Chiang Mai during your trip, you should rather read my other itinerary: A week in Thailand.

In this travel guide, in addition to the best places to visit , you will find a list of the best accommodations depending on your budget . And as always, I will also give you all my best tips to make the most of your stay!

So, what are the best things to do in 7 days in Thailand?

Accommodation in Phuket

Accommodation in koh yao noi, accommodation in koh lanta, best accommodation in krabi town, the best hotels in ao nang, where to stay in railay, go for 7 days in thailand on a single southern island, you’re traveling to thailand these articles will help you, itinerary: 7 days in thailand from phuket, 1) phuket (3 days).

For this first example of a 7-day itinerary in Thailand, you can land in Phuket.

The island has an international airport with many direct flights every day from all destinations. It is therefore very convenient to start a holiday in the south of the country. You can compare flight prices for Phuket at the end of this article.

From the airport, which is to the north, there are buses, taxis or a private transport (click here to access the info) to either Phuket Town (Phuket Town) or Patong, the liveliest area of the island. It depends on the location of the hotel you have booked:

  • You must go to Patong if you want to be in the heart of the tourist area and explore best known beaches .
  • Phuket Town is more convenient to take the ferry to the other Andaman Sea islands such as Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta .

For this first day in Phuket, and in order to recover a little from the flight and the jet lag, you could spend part of the day on Patong beach.

Although it is very busy, you will still find the space to lay down your towel on the 1 2km long stretch of sand. Sunbathe, swim or try one of the many water activities like parasailing or buoy rides.

Patong

At the end of the day, head for Bangla Road, towards Patong. This street, with its shops, bars, restaurants and night clubs , is the most lively in Phuket!

You can be able to watch a ladyboy show, with extremely pretty ladies, ultra-well-made and dressed, who are actually men! The most famous show in Phuket is the one at the Simon Cabaret.

The place is packed every night, so it is important to book your tickets in advance . You can buy them directly by clicking here.

If you would like a little more action for this first night in Phuket, you must attend a Muay Thai boxing match. This is Thailand’ s national sport, all punches are allowed!

There are also fights in Patong, and here too, it is better to book your tickets because the Thai people love it.

Click on the button below to purchase tickets:

Spend the night in Phuket.

For your second day of this 7-8 day trip to South Thailand, continue exploring Phuket.

You must focus on the East Zone, towards Phuket Town and the surroundings.

If you are staying in Patong, you can easily go by bus or rent a scooter . Phuket Town being the capital of the island, it is well connected.

If you prefer, there is also a very comprehensive organised trip to see some of the must-see spots . You can get the description and all the information for the reservation by clicking on the button below:

You must take a walk around the old town , which includes several buildings and houses built in the Portuguese Sino style, very colourful and perfectly renovated. The area is really charming and pleasant.

Things to see on your walk:

  • Thalang Road, the most popular street, with its local craft shops and cafés
  • Thai Hua Museum on the history of Phuket
  • The Blue Elephant Mansion , renowned for its traditional Thai cooking classes
  • The Shrine of Serene Light, a Chinese temple
  • The Clock Tower (not to be confused with that of Chiang Rai )
  • The Phuket Museum is located in the Old Standard Chartered Bank building
  • Phang Nga Road and its street art
  • Bang Niew Shrine

vieille ville Phuket temple chinois

Then go to Monkey Hill , which lives up to its name, with hundreds of monkeys. They are used to humans and expect only one thing: food.

It’s a well-oiled business, with banana and groundnut sellers scattered around the area.

As well as seeing the monkeys, you can climb the path up the hill to admire the panorama of the island.

Speaking of panoramic views, you can also take the opportunity when in Phuket Town to go to the Khao Rang Hill Viewpoint, which offers a view of the whole city.

On your way, stop at Wat Khao Rang Temple to admire the large golden Buddha statue there.

End the day at the beach and spend another night in Phuket.

For your last day in Phuket, you have a choice of several options, depending on your desires:

1) Take a day trip to Koh Phi Phi to discover the best known island of Thailand.

This trip can also be taken on a very beautiful catamaran . Click here to book!

For more details on the things to do in Phuket, please read our article: What are the things to see in Phuket?

Important point for   trips and activities in Phuket and Thailand in general: some agencies are extremely lax in terms of safety standards and respect for the environment. Incidentally, accidents happen quite regularly!

To do your activities safely, it is best to book the ones I mention in the article in advance. It’s not more expensive, and you can rest assured that you are doing your trip or activity with a reputed agency.

If you want to be in the middle of the action, I have prepared a selection of accommodation on the Patong side:

  • Lub D Phuket Patong: Youth Hostel 5 minutes from Patong Beach and 10 minutes from Bangla Road. Modern and very clean dormitory bed from €12. Strong points: huge swimming pool, common areas with even a boxing ring, design, cleanliness. This is the best hostel in Phuket!
  • Mazi Design Hotel by Kalima: Located 5 minutes from the night market and 10 minutes from Bangla Road. Spacious designer double room from €35 per night, breakfast at €7. Strong points: swimming pool, location, comfort of the rooms. It’s my favorite for its excellent value for money in Patong.
  • Holiday Inn Express Phuket Patong Beach Central: Located opposite the beach. Modern and warm double room with balcony from €72, breakfast included. Strong points: outdoor facilities, swimming pool, welcoming atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff.
  • Phuket Marriott Resort Spa, Merlin Beach: 5-star hotel complex located 2 miles from Patong, right on Tri-Trang beach. Warm and comfortable double room with private balcony or terrace from €110, breakfast at €19. Strong points: sea-side location, private beach, quiet, playground for children, setting. This is my recommendation for a luxury stay in Phuket!

If you prefer to stay in Phuket Town, here is my selection of hotels:

  • Baan Baan hostel: Hostel located in Phuket Old Town. Dormitory bed from €8, breakfast included. Strong points: helpful staff, cleanliness, location, calm atmosphere. The best youth hostel to stay in Phuket Town!
  • Ritsurin Boutique Hotel: Located 600 metres from Thalang Street. Clean and well-equipped double room from €28. Strong points: location, cleanliness, friendly staff.
  • The Malika Hotel: Located 1.8 km from the old town. Double room with very comfortable bedding and balcony from €38, breakfast at €6. • Casa Blanca Boutique Hotel: Located in the old town. Double room decorated with great taste from €50 per night, breakfast at €7. Strong points: excellent location, friendly staff, right next to the night market.
  • Novotel Phuket Phokeethra: Located 1 mile away from the old town. Super spacious double room, modern design from €85, breakfast at €15. Strong points: setting, comfort, ideal to visit the old town, close to the boat to the islands of Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta. This is my recommendation for an upscale stay in Phuket Town!

2) Another southern island (3 days)

For the second leg of your 7-day tour in Thailand , you can leave Phuket and explore another island in the South.

There are several possible alternatives when leaving from Phuket, so I have selected 2 islands that are easily accessible by boat:

  • Koh Yao Noi : an island still free of mass tourism and a small corner of paradise where you can spend relaxing holidays
  • Koh Lanta: better known than Koh Yao Noi and more touristy, it also has very nice beaches and is more lively.

Option 1: Koh Yao Noi (3 days)

Koh Yao Noi is just a 30-minute boat ride from Phuket.

The departure point is the Rang Bang Pier port, in the north-east of the island. To reach it, you have to take a taxi from your hotel. Then consider 300 Bahts for boat trips.

Once you are at Koh Yao Noi, shared taxis await to take you to the various hotels . The fare is 100 Bahts per person.

For this first day in Koh Yao , you must rent a scooter (250-300 Bahts/day) to explore the most beautiful beaches of the island. Stop for a swim whenever you want.

Spend the first night in Koh Yao Noi.

Koh Yao Noi tour scooter

The next day, you must absolutely go on an trip to the 4 islands. This is my favourite trip during my holidays in Thailand.

The islands on the agenda are simply magnificent, the beaches superb and the water translucent. An idyllic day to enjoy picturesque scenery!

You can explore:

  • Koh Ka Mit, also called Monkey Island because of its huge monkey population
  • Koh Pak Bia and its beautiful beach with wooden swings
  • Koh Lao Lading, ideal for swimming and watching fish
  • Koh Hong and its huge sandy beach surrounded by cliffs

All hotels in Koh Yao Noi offer this trip . Remember to book it the day before. The cost is 2,500 Bahts for the boat, to be divided between the number of people participating in the trip.

Spend another night in Koh Yao Noi.

Koh Yao Noi

On the last day at Koh Yao, you have a choice:

1) Take a boat trip to Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island.

Just like yesterday’s excursion, you will go by boat to the islands of the bay . There is no swimming on the agenda here, rather you will stop to take photos in the sublime landscapes.

The most famous island of this day trip is the James Bond Island where scenes of “The Man with the Golden Gun” were shot.

You can also go kayaking in the caves.

The tour also includes a stop at Koh Panyee with its large floating market where you can eat and buy souvenirs for your 7-day stay in South Thailand.

4500 Bahts per boat , divided between the number of passengers.

2) Take cooking classes in the morning at Mina’s Cooking Classes or at The Paradise  Koh Yao .

Rent a kayak in the afternoon (or vice versa) to explore Koh Yao from the sea.

3) Spend a day in Koh Yao Yai.

The neighbouring island, although larger, is even more protected from tourists. There are only a few hotels and you can find deserted beaches where it’s just you!

It is just a 10-minute boat ride from Koh Yao Noi.

Spend one last night on the island.

Koh yao Noi 4 Iles

The next day, you are unfortunately at the end of your 7-day road trip in Thailand . Take the boat back to Phuket and then reach the airport by taxi (approximately 700 Bahts).

You can find more details about Koh Yao Noi in our dedicated article: Visit Koh Yao Noi.

The differences between high and low tides on Koh Yao Noi island are truly impressive. The sea recedes by more than 330 feet, making it impossible to swim on some beaches, where you’ll see only stones.

The beach of the Koh Yao Seaview hotel is really top quality: you will have to walk a little to get to the water at low tide, but it is largely feasible because there is only sand.

  • Tha Khao Bay View: Located to the east of the island. Simple bungalow with fan from €25 per night. Strong points: the incredible view of the sea, the location in the middle of nature, the friendliness of the owners. An excellent choice for a cheap stay in Koh Yao Noi!
  • Koh Yao Seaview Bungalow: Located on the seafront, 15 minutes away in a songthaew from the port. Very spacious bungalow with a large bed and private terrace overlooking the swimming pool or the sea, from €45 per night. Strong points: the beach is nearby, the calmness, the swimming pool, the really cheap restaurant which provides delicious food in ample quantities. It’s my favorite for its excellent value for money!
  • Paradise KohYao: Located to the north of the island. Tastefully decorated room with an outdoor bathroom and private terrace from €95, breakfast included. Strong points: idyllic setting, infinity pool, private beach, location in the bay.
  • Cape Kudu Hotel, Koh Yao Noi: Located to the south-east of the island. Spacious and bright double room with very fancy decoration, from €150 per night, breakfast included. Strong points: design, calm, dreamy setting, friendly staff. A beautiful hotel in Koh Yao Noi, perfect for a romantic stay!
  • Laguna Villas Yao Noi: Located to the south-east of the island, right on the beach. Beautiful fully equipped villas, a perfect mix of modern and traditional Thai style from €200 per night, including breakfast. Strong points: sea-facing location, large swimming pool, close to excellent restaurants.
  • Six Senses Yao Noi: This is the most luxurious hotel on the whole island. It offers splendid villas with private swimming pools and even a butler that will be assigned to you for the duration of your stay. From €570, breakfast included. Strong points: Spa, gym, private beach, comfort, excellent meals, exceptional service. This is clearly the most beautiful luxury hotel in Koh Yao Noi. A dream place to spend your honeymoon or a romantic stay!

Six Senses Yao Noi - Hôtel de luxe à Koh Yao Noi

Option 2: Koh Lanta (3 days)

If you prefer to continue your 7-day itinerary in Thailand through Koh Lanta instead of Koh Yao Noi, here is an idea for a schedule for these 3 days!

To get to Koh Lanta from Phuket , you will have to take a ferry to the port of Rassada , close to Phuket Town. Don’t hesitate to ask your hotel to make the reservation for you, they can sometimes negotiate cheaper rates.

For example, we paid 700 Bahts instead of the 1000 Bahts posted on the booking website.

The journey to Koh Lanta takes 2 hours: first a boat to Koh Phi Phi (a 2 hour and 30 minutes trip) and then another boat to Koh Lanta (about 1 hour and 15 minutes).

If you prefer a faster and direct way to Koh Lanta, you can take a speedboat but there are not many seats available. For this trip, it’s better to book in advance. You can get all the information by clicking here!

On the boat, you will be offered to book your transfer to your hotel . You can take it, it doesn’t cost any more than once you get off the boat. The rate varies depending on the location of the hotel.

In the afternoon, you must rent a scooter and explore the west coast of the island where all the most beautiful beaches are located. You can try out several places for swimming. The further south you go, the fewer people there are.

And if you don’t feel like renting a scooter, you can also go to the beach closest to your hotel.

I have listed the beaches of Koh Lanta in this article: Visit Koh Lanta.

plage Koh Lanta

For the second day on Koh Lanta , you must go on the on the 4 islands trip. This for me, is the best trip on the island!

The islands are heavenly and there are plenty of snorkelling and swimming stops to swim among the fish.

On the agenda:

  • Koh Chuek: snorkelling stop
  • Koh Waen: snorkelling stop
  • Koh Muk , home to the Emerald Cave, a former pirate hideout
  • Koh Ngai and its beautiful beach with fine sands and turquoise waters

For 1000 Bahts per person, everything is included: snorkelling equipment, transport to the port from your hotel, lunch and drinks.

Book this trip by clicking on the button below:

This trip takes place onboard a longtail boat, a traditional Thai boat, but if you wish, you can also choose to take a speedboat.

To book the tour, click this link!

4 iles Koh Lanta

Third and last day on Koh Lanta , you have a few choices:

1) Take another boat trip but this time to explore the beautiful island of Koh Rok.

Just as with the 4 islands trip, you can go snorkelling and swimming. Everything is also included in the price of around 1700 Bahts per person.

To make sure you go through a reliable agency, you must book this trip to Koh Rok by clicking on the button below:

If this tour is already full, you can also book with another service provider by clicking here (it’s exactly the same).

2) Explore Koh Lanta:

  • Discover the mangrove by kayak or longtail boat from the port of Tungyeepeng
  • Visit an elephant sanctuary
  • Explore Koh Lanta Noi, the neighbouring island, by scooter
  • First diving experience at one of the many centres on the island
  • Take a cooking class at “Cooking with Mon”
  • Visit the old town of Koh Lanta
  • Visit the Khao Mai Kaew Caves or the Tiger Cave
  • Go to the Mu Koh Lanta National   Park

All the things to do in Koh Lanta are mentioned in our article: What are the best things to see and do in Koh Lanta?

The next day, we’ll be at the end of your 7-day trip to Thailand . Take the boat back to Phuket and reach the airport.

In Koh Lanta, hotels are located on the west coast of the island, close to the numerous beaches.

As always, the best rooms are fully booked months in advance , so make sure to book as soon as you have your travel dates!

  • Hub of Joys Hostel: Hostel located 350 metres from Long Beach. Clean and pleasant dormitory bed from €6 per night, breakfast included. Strong points: friendly staff, 5 minutes from the beach, good breakfast. This is the cheapest accommodation option in Koh Lanta! Perfect for backpackers.
  • Long Beach Chalet: Located right on Long Beach. Bright and comfortable bungalow from 25€ per night, breakfast included. Strong points: swimming pool, direct access to the beach.
  • SriLanta Resort: Located on Klong Nin Beach. Thai style villa with a terrace overlooking the garden from 35€, breakfast at 10€. Strong points: 3 swimming pools, the setting, ideal location to go to the beach, comfort. It’s my favorite for its excellent value for money!
  • Kaw Kwang Beach Resort: Located on Klong Dao Beach. Nice and spacious double room from 50€, breakfast included. Strong points: sea-view, very quiet and accessible beach, swimming pool, landscaped garden, free pick-up and drop-off at the port.
  • Rawi Warin Resort And Spa: 5 star hotel located 400 metres from Klong Nin Beach. Modern Thai style double room with wooden furniture and balcony from 85€, breakfast included. Strong points: swimming pools, playground for children, view, competent staff, ample and varied breakfast. Ideal for an upscale romantic stay!
  • Pimalai Resort & Spa: 5 star hotel located 650 ft from Kantiang Beach. Very spacious and tastefully decorated double room from 210€, breakfast included. Strong points: the splendid infinity pool, dedicated staff, location, view, excellent breakfast. This is my recommendation for a luxury stay in Koh Lanta!

Pimalai Resort & Spa Koh Lanta

Itinerary: 7 days in Thailand from Krabi

1) krabi (3 days).

Here is another example of a of a 7-day tour in South Thailand, with arrival in Krabi.

The Krabi province is also located towards the Andaman Sea, but on the other side of Phuket.

Krabi also has an international airport, so it is the ideal place for a holiday in southern Thailand. However, unlike Phuket, it is quite possible that you will first have to reach Bangkok and then take a connection to Krabi.

You can compare all flight prices for Krabi at the end of our article with our flight comparison tool.

From the airport, you must directly go to Ao Nang , the main tourist area of the province where you will find the closest beaches to Krabi and where you will stay.

For this, you can take a shuttle to the airport (about 150 Bahts), the taxi (a little over 1000 Bahts) or book your group transfer (from 280 Bahts). For the latter, the driver will wait for you on arrival. If you are interested, you can book here directly!

Private transfers are also available and it really doesn’t cost much more if there are 2 or 3.  Here is the link with all the information.

Spend the end of the day at the Ao Nang beach , a large sandy beach where you can recover from the hours of flying and the time difference. A little further away, there’s also Noppharat Thara Beach, which is wilder and less crowded.

Spend the first night in Ao Nang.

Ao-Nang

The next day, you must explore one of the most beautiful places in the province of Krabi: Railay.

To get there, you have to take the boat from Ao Nang beach. It costs 200 bahts for a round-trip and takes 10 minutes.

You don’t have to book your trip in advance, just buy it the same day at the beach shack.  Boats are leaving and arriving all the time.

Once you get to Railay , you will quickly see that the setting is splendid and the beaches are heavenly . You will also realise that there are huge crowds, but that’s the price of success!

The 2 prettiest beaches are Railay West Beach (the one where you land) and Phra Nang Beach . They are large beaches with fine sands, bordered by karst cliffs and the forest. In addition to swimming, you can also rent kayaks and paddle boats.

There is also an area with bars and restaurants.

The more athletic among you will be able to tackle the ascent that leads to the Railay viewpoint. It takes 10-15 minutes to climb, using ropes, to get there, but the view is definitely worth it!

And if you’re not afraid of heights, Railay is recognised as one of the main destinations in Thailand for rock climbing . There are over 700 routes!

If you want to book a climbing course, just click on the button below:

Return for the night to Ao Nang.

Railay beach

Today, for your last day in Krabi , you must go on a day-trip by boat.

There are several choices from Ao Nang beach:

1) The 4 islands trip to discover Koh Poda, Chicken Island, Koh Tup and Phra Nang Cave.

2) A trip to Koh Phi Phi, one of the most famous islands of Thailand.

3) A trip to the Hong Islands.

All these trips are organised based on same principle with snorkelling and swimming stops throughout the day.

Transport from your hotel , the day-trip by boat , lunch, water and equipment with masks and snorkels are included in the price.

2) Koh Lanta (3 days)

To continue this 7-day stay in Thailand, you should you leave Krabi to go to a southern island: Koh Lanta.

You will have to take a boat. The journey takes about 2h30 and costs around 350 Bahts per person. A shared taxi will take you to your hotel in Koh Lanta. It is not more expensive than those offered upon arrival so you can accept or even negotiate a little.

For the rest of the day, rent a scooter and go along the west coast of the island , where all the beautiful beaches are located.

I have talked about this in this article: The beaches of Koh Lanta.

Spend the night at Koh Lanta.

On the second day , you must absolutely go on this trip from Koh Lanta: the 4 islands trip. Although it’s name is the same as the one in Krabi, the trip is not the same, the islands are different.

However, it is similar in that it has diving stops where you can gaze upon numerous fish and corals. You will discover the islands of:

Spend another night in Koh Lanta.

On the last day of your holiday in Koh Lanta , you will have a choice of several activities:

1) A boat trip to Koh Rok

2) You can start diving with oxygen bottles in one of the centres of Koh Lanta.

3) Kayaking or boating in the mangrove, with a guide or by yourself. To do this you will have to go to the port of Tungyeepeng, in the North-East.

After kayaking, you can take the opportunity to go to Koh Lanta Noi, Koh Lanta’s little sister. On a scooter , you can follow the road and discover deserted beaches.

4) Spend a morning or an afternoon in an elephant sanctuary.

You can feed them and participate in the mud bath.

You will find even more things to do in our article: Top 15 places to visit in Koh Lanta.

Spend one last night in Koh Lanta.

The next day, it’s end of your 7-8 day road trip in Thailand. Take the boat back to Krabi and from there reach the airport.

If you don’t feel like visiting Thailand in 7 days and discovering several islands, you can spend your whole stay in the same place.

Ultimate 7-Day Thailand Itinerary

Known as the ‘Jewel of Asia’, Thailand is home to some of the most incredible landscapes, from luscious jungles, canyons, and waterfalls to paradise coastlines fringed by palm-tree forested islands. Alongside this diversity, the warmth and culture of the country, known fondly as the ‘Land of Smiles’, is infectious. Follow this 7-day Thailand itinerary for adventure, relaxation, and culinary adventures — discovering ornate temples in ancient towns, snorkeling off colorful reefs, caving in national parks, and sampling mouthwatering street food.

Thailand Itinerary (7 Days)

Thailand is an incredibly diverse country, with so much to do that you could easily be here for weeks! The beaches are some of the best in the world, nestled on paradise islands with powdery sand and turquoise blue water. Follow this 7-day Thailand itinerary for some of the nation’s highlights to experience a perfect mix of history, culture, relaxation, and adventure.

Note: In this Thailand itinerary (7 days), we have not included Chiang Mai and Pai due to the traveling distance. However, if you have more time on your trip, we highly recommend visiting the luscious landscapes of the north.

Day 1 + 2: Arrive in Phuket

Although Phuket is technically an island, it feels more like its own country, with a totally different vibe from the mainland. It’s the perfect place to begin your Thailand 7-day itinerary, as it has an international airport with flights departing daily to other major cities in Asia .

Day 1: Old Town and Big Buddha

Begin your experience with a trip to the charming Phuket Old Town, home to colorful streets full of cute shops, trendy cafes, exciting galleries, museums, and street art. Grab your camera and snap away or while away the morning people watching from one of the many fantastic cafes in the area.

Next up, have some quiet time visiting some of Phuket’s most sacred sites. Head for the Wat Chalong Temple, a complex home to five unique temples crafted from pink marble and the most stunning gold detailing.

As an addition, you can also take a trip further out of the city to the enormous Big Buddha statue, which stands at an impressive 45 meters high, towering over Phuket. Climb the 100 steps to the top for the most incredible 360-degree view across the island!

Day 2: Island Relaxation

Day 2 is all about relaxing and soaking up the beauty of Phuket’s fantastic beaches. The island has many incredible spots to choose from, but we recommend Banana Beach on the northwest side of Phuket and Kamala Beach, which is lined with beautiful palm trees and sparkling blue waters. From here, you can also easily get to Laem Sing Viewpoint, which overlooks the beach and has panoramic views of the Andaman Sea and coastline.

Tip: Make sure to go at sunset when the whole bay turns the most incredible shades of pink and orange.

There are plenty of accommodation options in Phuket, from cheap and cheerful hostels to upmarket hotels. Phuket Old Town is a good option for your two nights on the island, as it’s the cultural and historical heart of the island.

Day 5: Krabi and Ao Nang Town

Krabi is one of the most beautiful regions of Thailand — a perfect mix of vacation vibes and culture, home to stunning temples, delicious food, and many other natural treasures. Its beaches are particularly famous, with crystal clear oceans bordering sandy white beaches and thick green forests.

Krabi Town is one of the most popular spots in the region. Start day 5 of your 7-day Thailand itinerary at the stunning white temple of Wat Kaew Korawaram (located in the center of Krabi town). Make sure to look at the beautiful detailing, from the ornate carvings to the gold dragons, which is even more beautiful at sunset.

After dark, visit the nearby Krabi Night Market, which is one of the best in the country! Time your visit, though, as the market is only open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5 PM.

If you would rather relax on day 5 of your Thailand itinerary, head straight for Ao Nang and simply soak up the sun on one of the powdery palm-tree-lined beaches.

Ao Nang is also a great place to base yourself for island hopping trips to places like the Hong Islands. A long-tail boat will transport you to paradise islands, home to stunning lagoons, limestone cliffs, and glorious beaches.

Tip: If you want an even mix of town and beach, local Songthaew taxis move between Ao Nang and Krabi throughout the day.

Where to Stay in Krabi

Krabi has three main areas: Ao Nang, Krabi Town, and Railay. The majority of good restaurants and hotels are situated in Ao Nang (a developed coastal area with the best beaches). However, Krabi Town has more of a backpacker feel with cheaper accommodation.

Day 6 + 7: Phi Phi or Koh Yao Noi

On the final days of your 7-day Thailand itinerary, spend them enjoying some of the most beautiful islands in the world — so beautiful that they’ve even been the setting for world-famous movies.

Choosing between these two islands isn’t easy, but it’s all dependant on what you’re looking for. Phi Phi is paradise, but its fame as the location of the movie ‘The Beach’ means that there are more tourists. On the other hand, Koh Yao Noi is much quieter, has more accommodation options, and has friendly locals.

Undoubtedly, the Phi Phi Islands are one of the best places to go on your 7-day Thailand itinerary. These picture-postcard islands are some of Southeast Asia’s most beautiful tropical getaways.

Your ferry trip from Krabi also offers a sightseeing tour, taking you around one of the islands with a stopover for snorkeling before arriving on Phi Phi; it’s a great way to start the day!

In the afternoon, head up to Phi Phi Viewpoint, which takes about 20 minutes, to enjoy the most stunning view across the island and sea.

Tip: Ferries leave mid-afternoon back to Phuket and Krabi, so keep an eye on the timetable.

Alternatively, book a boat tour to Phi Phi Islands from Krabi

Koh Yao Noi

If you want tranquility and seclusion on your 7-day Thailand itinerary, Koh Yao Noi is the right place!

Koh Yao Noi is jaw-droppingly beautiful, with its stunning deserted white sandy beaches, lush rainforests, and beautiful mountains. Unfortunately, you only have a few days to explore, but it’s the perfect taster, so you can return and see the rest one day!

See availability for a boat tour to Koh Yao Noi (including a visit to the famous James Bond Island).

Whereas travel time can be upwards of 2 hours for a trip to Phi Phi (especially if you choose the non-speedboat option). Book your ferry in advance from Krabi to Phi Phi .

Day 1 + 2: Bangkok (Optional)

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and, therefore, is the usual starting point for a 7-day Thailand itinerary. If that’s the case, you can change up the first few days of the trip with a few days in Bangkok — a great way to kickstart the adventure!

How to Visit Thailand

Thailand’s biggest airport is Bangkok, where you will most likely fly into to start your 7-day Thailand itinerary. Either stay here for a few days or change onto a domestic flight and fly directly to Phuket .

Getting Around Thailand

There are numerous ways to get around on your Thailand itinerary (7 days), but getting around by taxi is the most convenient. Grab Taxi is a great option, or for something cheaper, hop on a tuk-tuk or a shared songthaew to get around the cities and towns.

An easy way to get around on your route through the north of Thailand is by renting a car. The roads in Thailand are becoming more and more developed, making it easier to drive between destinations.

Renting a Motorbike

Scooter/motorbike rental starts at around 150-400 THB (4.30 – 11.60 USD) daily, depending on your chosen model. There are lots of rental companies in the towns throughout Thailand, but remember that you need to leave your passport or deposit 3,000 THB (87 USD).

There is also the option to fly between major destinations in Thailand, such as a direct flight from Bangkok to Phuket. Unfortunately, other destinations in southern Thailand aren’t as well served. For example, if you want to fly from Phuket to Krabi, you’ll have to change flights (with the trip ultimately taking longer than it would by bus).

Tailor-made trips for   Thailand

While it is possible to experience the main attractions of Thailand in a 7-day stay, it is difficult to explore everything thoroughly due to its diversity. Therefore, it is important to prioritise specific regions or experiences.

To get the most out of a week-long trip, it's best to focus on one area, such as Bangkok and its surroundings. If you want to cover several regions or islands, however, more time will allow for a richer and more relaxed experience of Thailand's cultural, historical and natural wonders. The ideal duration depends on your interests and depth of exploration.

Thailand Tours & Vacations

Two women talking with their guide next to the buddhas at the WatPho temple

Thailand is an idyllic paradise, where jungle-covered karsts plunge into aquamarine waters and the sand is sugar white.

But no matter how clichéd the fantasy, Thailand delivers in spades. The water around Krabi and Ko Tao really is that deep, cool shade of blue. Phi Phi’s limestone karsts really do look like some alien world. And the food? Let’s just say your local Pad Thai has nothing on Chiang Mai’s street stalls or the floating markets of Amphawa, where little old ladies do things with fish sauce and chili you never thought possible. From the waterfalls of Erawan to a homestay with the hill tribes of the Golden Triangle, these adventures go beyond the tourist traps. Buckle up.

Best time to visit thailand.

Thailand's climate is generally hot, humid, and at times (like other South East Asian countries) monsoonal. The seasons differ from coast to coast, so depending on which areas you're visiting, the weather can vary.

Thailand's mainland region is great to visit from November to February when the weather is cooler and dryer.

If you are planning on visiting the Gulf Coast (east), avoid the northeast monsoon that brings rain from October to January. For destinations like Phuket on the west side of the peninsula, the best time is November to April to avoid the other monsoon which causes Thailand's wet season from May to October.

Culture and customs

Often considered the epicenter of Buddhism, religion permeates daily life in Thailand. Sprinkled throughout the country are thousands of golden temples, where you’ll find Buddhist monks in orange robes walking the streets. Young men are expected to spend some time as a monk as it bestows honor on their families. Visitors should be respectful of monks and dress modestly when visiting a temple (cover your knees and shoulders and remove your shoes).

Like other Asian nations, the concept of ‘saving face’ is important. This means avoiding conflict or embarrassment in order to preserve social standing, dignity, and honor. Thai people will go out of their way to avoid ‘losing face’. Losing your temper or raising your voice are surefire ways to lose face and can be perceived as volatile or rude.

Eating and drinking

Thai food has everything from spicy dishes packed with chilis to milder coconut-based curries. With street stalls and night markets all over the country, it's really easy to pick up a snack wherever you are in Thailand. On many Intrepid trips, you'll be given the opportunity to have dinner with a local family – this offers a great chance to see how meals are prepared and learn more about the local culture. Go a step further on our 8-day Thailand Read Food Adventure to watch, eat, prepare, and present tasty and traditional Thai cuisine.

Things to try in Thailand

1. Pad Thai (Phat Thai)

A well-known dish but for good reason. This delicious plate of stir-fried rice noodles garnished with peanuts is full of flavor and can be served with fresh prawns, chicken, tofu, or vegetables.

2. Tom Yum (Tom Yam)

Usually prepared with stock, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and chili, this soup is widely available in Thailand and has been popularised around the world.

3. Green curry

One of many curries that Thais do so well. Green curry consists of chicken, Thai eggplant, and chilies bathed in a coconut milk-based sauce.

4. Som tam (green papaya salad)

This northern dish of shredded raw papaya, cherry tomatoes, and green beans is a tantalizing mix of sweet, spicy, and sour flavors.

5. Coconut water

For a super fresh thirst quencher, try coconut water straight from the husk.

6. Tropical fruit

Fruit shakes and fresh fruit juices are widely available from markets and restaurants – make the most of all the tropical fruits of Thailand.

Geography and environment

Sharing borders with South East Asian neighbors  Cambodia ,   Laos ,   Malaysia   , and   Myanmar   (Burma), Thailand's natural environment varies greatly from region to region. From the steamy jungles and misty highlands in the north to the white sand beaches and picturesque islands of the south, Thailand's everchanging landscape has been fascinating and entertaining travelers for centuries.

The capital, Bangkok, is a heaving, urban jungle with skyscrapers, street vendors, markets, cars, tuk-tuks, bicycles, and masses of people all competing for space. Despite this, there are pockets of quiet beauty to be found with parks, temples, and traditional shop fronts scattered throughout the city.

Rural areas in the north are typically quieter, with locals living a more traditional way of life; the frenetic pace of the city giving way to a more slow-paced, agricultural-based lifestyle. Houses are simple, there's more space and less of the modern conveniences. Jungles, rivers, bamboo huts, and teak houses are more commonly seen here, and birds and other animal life are more abundant.

History and government

Early history.

Communities based on agriculture (such as rice growing) inhabited Siam (Thailand) as early as the 6th century. In the following centuries, Siam came under the influence of the Khmer, Dvaravati, and Malay cultures, with some temples and monuments in modern-day Thailand showing evidence of this influence. In the 13th century, the city of Sukhothai in northern Thailand became an important capital. The ruins of the Sukhothai Historical Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site) feature remnants of the royal palace, temples, and other buildings and highlight the artistic and architectural features of the era.

Ayutthaya rose to prominence as the new capital in the 14th century and was considered a powerhouse of South East Asia as one of the most important centers of trade in the world. Enduring many battles, invasions, overthrows, and coups, Ayutthaya's far-reaching trade with other regions ensured a flourishing influence of art, weaponry, religion, and cuisine. Much wealth was generated by this enormous empire, with grand palaces, ornate buildings, and huge temples featured throughout the city. All this came to an end when the Burmese invaded in the 18th century, bringing the kingdom to ruin and resulting in the loss of many artistic and cultural treasures. Despite this, the ruins of the city are still standing, have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, and are a great day trip from Bangkok. See the sights of ancient and recent Thai history during a 3 day River Kwai and Ancient Thai Kingdoms tour.

Recent history

Thonburi was established as the capital of Siam by General Taksin in the late 18th century, yet this didn't last long with Taksim being deposed and executed not long after. Bangkok was then named capital by General Chakri, who became Rama I - the first king of the Rama Dynasty.

Over the years, Siam (Thailand) remained the only South East Asian country to remain free from European colonization. In 1932, the Siamese Revolution resulted in a constitutional monarchy being formed, and in 1941, Thailand invaded French Indochina, overpowered the French, and claimed Laos.

In the last thirty years, Thailand has seen political power change hands many times, often due to coups, revolutions, and protests. Despite this, Thailand’s economy continues to grow due to its strong tourist industry. Enduring all this, the much-loved King Rama IX has reigned as the Head of State since 1946 - claiming the title of the longest-reigning monarch in the world and providing Thai people with a stable figure to rely upon.

Enjoy this historical park for yourself during a 10 day Highlights of Thailand tour.

6. Sukhothai

This former capital is a history buff's heaven. Nicknamed the 'Dawn of Happiness', Sukhothai still recalls Siam's golden age with its superb statues, marvelous monuments, and lotus flowers in full bloom. A trip to the night market is a real eye-opener; try everything from fried rice to fried bugs.

Stop by Sukhothai on our 8 day Explore Northern Thailand adventure.

The waters surrounding Krabi are dotted with hundreds of limestone karst islands. Kayakers and rock climbers will love exploring them, while others can travel to the nearby floating villages or just relax on one of the region's perfect beaches.

Coast through the must-see sights of Phang Nga Bay on our 8 day Phuket Sailing Adventure.

Bustling street markets filled with colorful vendors selling an assortment of goods can be found in small villages and large towns throughout the country. Luxurious, multi-level shopping malls that rival those in European cities are increasingly popping up.

The Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok is perhaps the largest and most extensive market in the world. Here vendors sell everything you can think of, from ceramics to Thai silk to vintage clothing. Bartering is expected at markets and most small vendors. As a rule of thumb, if the price isn’t listed, it’s negotiable. But remember, Thais appreciate friendliness and a sense of humor. The more aggressive you are in trying to get a deal, the less likely you are to get one.

Things to buy in Thailand

  • Vibrant fabric cushions, tablecloths, and hammocks
  • Silver jewelry (look for reputable stores)
  • Handcrafted umbrellas or parasols
  • Thai silk scarves, ties, wraps, and clothing
  • Colorful Celadon ceramics
  • Tailor-made clothing

Festival and events

Loy krathong (festival of lights).

During the 12th lunar month, people across the country gather around lakes, rivers, and canals to symbolically let their worries float away in the most magical way – by releasing colorful lotus-shaped rafts holding candles, incense, and flowers onto the water.

Yee Peng (or Yi Peng)

At the same time that Loy Krathong is taking place, Chiang Mai also celebrates Yee Peng. Religious events, cultural activities, and street parades all mark this Buddhist tradition. But what makes this festival truly spectacular is the release of thousands of sky lanterns that illuminate the sky.

Songkran (Thai New Year)

What happens when New Year’s Day falls during the height of summer? It morphs into a giant water fight. Some towns celebrate just on the day (April 13), while others stretch it out for several days of concerts, ceremonies, and other wet festivities.

Chiang Mai Flower Festival

Flowers are used in ways you never thought imaginable at this colorful three-day event in February. Come for the parade of impressive floral floats, and stay for the tasty Thai street food, music, and performances.

What's the transport like in Thailand?

Intrepid believes half the fun of experiencing a new country is getting there, and getting around once there! Where possible, Intrepid uses local transport options and traditional modes of transport - which usually carry less of an environmental impact, support small local operators, and are more fun.

Depending on which trip you're on while in Thailand, you may find yourself traveling by Songthaew.

Get to know the locals as you share a ride in these converted pick-up trucks. Snagging a seat on the ‘two benches’ (the literal meaning of songthaew) is a popular way of getting around South East Asia.

See Thailand from the ground level on a Saamlaw, the three-wheeled wonder. Sometimes motorized but usually pedal-powered by a local, it’s a fun way to get from A to B or see a new city's sights.

What's the accommodation like in Thailand?

Traveling with Intrepid is a little bit different. We endeavor to provide travelers with an authentic experience to remember, so we try to keep accommodations as unique and traditional as possible.

When traveling with us in Thailand you may find yourself staying in a Homestay.

Experience friendly Thai hospitality while staying with a local family living a traditional way of life. Make new friends, pick up some local lingo and leave smiling.

The ultimate room with a view - spend the night on a floating bamboo raft house. Enjoy the seclusion, soak up the serenity and leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Does my trip to Thailand support The Intrepid Foundation?

Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Thailand directly support our foundation partner, EcoThailand Foundation .

EcoThailand Foundation is on a mission to educate and empower local communities, on the tourist Islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Paluay, about environmental issues like climate change, waste management, nature appreciation, conservation and sustainable lifestyles. Donations from our trips help EcoThailand's environmental guardianship education program for children in local state schools.

The Perfect Thailand Itinerary: 7 Days North & South

Thailand is basically at the other end of the world for me – an 11-hour time zone difference from the US! But is it worth the trek? Absolutely!

Thailand is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to visit. This country is much more than north and south, or simply island hopping. There’s a rich variety of influence from outside cultures, like the Chinese (baba) and neighbors like Cambodia/Laos. You’ll never see it all in one trip, but here’s an extensive 7-day itinerary to help you touch the surface of this gorgeous destination.

Day 1 and 2: Bangkok

I’ve really had a blast in Bangkok, both times! Read below to learn all about Bangkok’s Chinatown and one of the best tours I’ve ever taken for food.

READ MORE:  East Meets East: Bangkok Thailand’s Chinatown

You might want to try one of the great escorted tours Thailand has to offer that will touch on Bangkok and the islands. Or if feeling adventurous, you can read on to see our ad-hoc suggestions. Bangkok will also allow you to really explore Thailand’s culture from its ancient history to modern times. If you really want to immerse yourself in the local culture you can start by learning the language. Learning Thai free is one way to start, getting from the basics to maybe being able to converse with Thai people will open up new possibilities for you while you are in the Thai capital.

Thailand’s Newest and Tallest Skyscraper

In fact, that article above is what lead me to ‘win’ a trip back a year later. I was thrilled to be returning to Bangkok, as they’ve recently opened the brand-new King Power Mahanakhon Tower. It’s Thailand’s tallest building and right downtown at more than 1,000 feet high. You can go into the lobby and shop at the endless boutique stores complimentary, or purchase tickets to visit the observational tower. Many of the 78 floors are primed for shopping and dining.

thailand tour 7 days

There are two levels – the King Power Mahanakhon Observatory and the King Power Mahanakhon Rooftop and Skywalk. If you’re going up, you might as well splurge for the rooftop, as it boasts a full bar, DJ and walkable glass-paned area for the brave. Here are tickets for the experience.

The King Power Mahanakhon was within walking distance from our beautiful hotel, the Pullman Bangkok Hotel G . Also a new kid on the block, this luxury spot has lots of space in their whitewashed rooms, plus foodie finds and an executive floor lounge. Don’t miss the change to try fresh noodle soup for breakfast paired with dragon fruit to start the day.

Other areas besides Chinatown and downtown include the Phra Nakhon, home to the Grand Palace . It’s worth taking a peek at this structure dating back to the 1700s. For 500 baht (about $15) you can access the Wat Phra Kaew and Queen Sirikit Museum of Textile, or you can take a guided tour.

Have a look at my full review of the Okura Prestige below too for upscale accommodation – and an infinity pool!

Day 3 and 4: Phuket and Phang Nga

Phuket has the beaches, that’s for sure. Surin public beach and the exclusive stretch of sand from The Surin resort are incredible. Here’s more about my first trip to Phuket at The Surin below.

thailand tour 7 days

But this time, I had the pleasure of exploring Phuket Old Town, a highlight of the trip. The hipsters have taken over the town, in a fantastic way! There are just enough old school and new cool vibes to go around, with old Chinese-style mansions neighboring raw, colorful street art. We enjoyed a thorough walk through the area with plenty of stops for Thai iced tea and sweets.

Street Art from Patcharapol Tangreun and Rakkit Kuanhavej in Old Town Phuket Thailand

They’ve also re-purposed old buildings to be fresh, new shops and points of interest too.

To get your bearings, visit the Peranakannitat museum first. They have an interactive exhibit upstairs with a full touch-screen and topographical map of the town. You can pick the hotspots you want to visit and go from there.

Our first stop was to see Phuket Old Town’s newest accommodations. If you like the idea of staying off-beach for a night or two, the brand-new WOO Gallery & Boutique Hotel has a few bespoke guests rooms with attached museum and café. They used to build homes as long and narrow as possible to avoid steep property taxes, so you can tour this style of home downtown and see the antique Chinese/Thai décor.

Phuket Cafes, Restaurants and Coffee Shops

Tu Kab Khao – Upscale luncheon restaurant. Dine with other residents of Phuket Old Town and try a variety of Chinese-style dishes served on pretty blue dishes, like spring rolls and fish.

The Feelsion – I was told this is where the ‘cool’ kids hang out, but I liked it too as an old lady! The steampunk-style spot of ‘Instagrammable’ drinks, rainbow-colored or covered in fresh flowers. They also have durian-flavored ice cream which I loved, but it’s an acquired taste.

i 46 Old Town – More authentic than the new hipster bubble tea spots, this is run by a local couple who have lived in the home for generations. Have a variety of sweets with some hot or cold tea. Or, some iced almond milk!

92 House – They offer fresh food and drinks on-site. Keep an eye out for Annie , a wonderful young woman who plays on a traditional guzheng, which is like a harp. They gave us a demonstration of traditional Chinese noodle stir-fry too, which you can book with a luncheon in a private room.

After getting our fill of nutty sweets and refreshing beverages during the super hot day, it was amazing to return to the Angsana Laguna Phuket resort for happy hour at the Xana Beach Club. If you’re feeling brave, order their spicy scorpion drink top with red chili. When in Rome!

thailand tour 7 days

Besides the beach club, Angsana has multiple pools and the longest lazy river in Thailand. Breakfast was some of the best selections I had the whole trip, and rooms were spaciously comfortable – perfect for small groups of friends and family.

Save your spa time for this spot too, they have traditional Thai massage and more gentle versions too. If you’re lucky, you’ll meet my new favorite chef at dinner – she makes fresh banana rotis for dessert on site!

North of Phuket: Phang Nga Authenticity

Just 60-90 minutes north of Phuket is a beautiful province that offers a lower, more authentic Thailand. Technically, when you’re out Thailand hopping you’ll most likely end up in this area, if not on the mainland. But definitely don’t skip the chance to check out the villages and attractions in Phang Nga too.

The best part was the local market called “ตลาดน้ำคลองงา”. Every Saturday dozens of vendors sell clothing and goods, plus homemade delicacies from dumplings to sticky mango rice. The market is working hard on eliminating plastic, so you can purchase most food in biodegradable containers. My sticky rice came in a bamboo cane, and the coconut milk was in a palm frond container.

sizzling dumplings at ตลาดน้ำคลองงา market in phang nga thailand

We enjoyed a guided tour too that included visits to some communities. I learned how they make sturdy kitchenware, bags and jewelry from palm fronds – even thought my weaving skills are abysmal!

Red bean sweetened inside pastry dough is a popular dessert in Thailand. While exploring the Takuapaa District in Phang Nga, we stopped at a bakery called “ ตวงรัตน์ ”. There, the ladies patiently showed us how to make the dessert called “Tao Sor”, sold at the small café and shop on site.

Moon cakes in Phang Nga, thailand

Another fun activity is a kayak excursion through “ Little Amazon ” (คลองสังเหน่ if you’re looking it up in Thai). These serene mangroves are home to lots of tropical birds, fish and the occasional monkey. Honestly, I would have preferred to paddle myself, but it was relaxing to have a local guide navigate the waterways for us too.

butterfly pea ice cream with orchid at fellsion cafe phuket thailand

If you want to stay in Phang Nga, try the chic Natai Beach Resort & Spa . They have bungalows on the beach with rooftop terraces – and a few have bathtubs outdoors if you’re feeling frisky. They’ll arrange an al fresco dining experience too if you’d like with your toes in the sand.

Pool at sunrise at the Natai beach Resort Thailand

I loved all these experiences off the beach in South Thailand for a refreshing change and to learn a bit more about everyday life.

We worry so you don't have to.

Day 5: Thailand Island Hopping!

woman overlooking islands in phang nga bay, thailand

Now like me, you’ll probably want to spend a fair amount of time Thailand island hopping! Both the islands and the mainland are wonderful to explore for plenty of beach time and some cultural exploration. Here’s a couple I loved from our chartered boat trip through Phang Nga Bay.

Khao Phing Kan

James bond island in phnag nga bay, thailand

This is the famous ‘James Bond’ island. People come here by the hundreds to catch a glimpse of the interesting land formation jutting straight out of the water. It was used in the 1974 film ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’ as a secret lair. If you leave early enough in the morning, you’ll miss the heat and most of the crowds.

Koh Hong Lek

the heart made of a tree clearing at Koh Hong Lek in thailand

Near James Bond Island is a pretty and lush island, perfect for caving and kayaking. When you kayak around the corner, look up and spot the pretty heart-shaped formation in the trees.

Protip: You can’t see James Bond Island from Phuket or Phang Nga, but you can enjoy incredible views of the hilly islands in general. Visit the Sametnangshe Boutique Resort in Phang Nga to stay in one of their eco-friendly bungalows, or simply have a cold Singha beer on the viewing platform as the sun goes down.

VRBO

Day 6 and 7: Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi

Of all the days, this island time was the most relaxing. I love the mainland and Phuket Old Town, but there’s something special about Koh Yao Noi and its little neighbor, Koh Yao Yai. Maybe it was because the activity slowed way down and I could just soak in the scenery.

So, Koh Yao Noi is the smaller of two islands. You can visit from Phuket by local ferry for a few dollars, via speedboat. By tuk-tuk or even motorbike, it’s a lovely place to unwind and explore its stretch of white sand. You and your crew can do some fun hands-on things too. There’s a place near the dock called “ ผ้าบาติก ท่าเขา ” where you can paint your own handkerchief. The woman makes stencils from wax drips that you watercolor, then the wax melts away in the sun. There’s also coconut farms to visit and plenty of seafood joints to dig into some fresh crab.

Take another local ferry over to Koh Yao Yai. On our private transport though, we stopped at a floating lobster farm which was a fun bonus – they look very different than New England lobsters!

Two Lobster farmers near Koh Yao Noi in Thailand

Or if you are really to indulge, make plans to stay at the Santhiya Koh Yao Yai Resort & Spa – easily the most breathtaking place I stayed at in Thailand. My husband and I have some beautiful teak wood accents in our Thai-themed bedroom at home – but Santhiya is completely created from this local material to surround you in gorgeous style. And really, you can’t beat a Jacuzzi tub out on the balcony overlooking the bay.

teakwood bed with canopy at Santhiya Koh Yao Yai Resort & Spa

Not to mention, the infinity pools in some private suites, as well as the main one for guests at happy hour are unreal, especially at sunset. Don’t miss the BBQ on the beach at night or fresh coconut ice cream – inside a coconut of course – for dessert! I needed it after all those amazingly delicious but HOT curries. Make plenty of time in your Thailand itinerary as you can to simply be in the moment at this oasis on Koh Yao Yai.

Other alternative Thailand Itinerary ideas for 7 Days

Chiang mai and the north.

During other trips to Thailand, I have enjoyed regions up north.  Chiang Mai (and Chiang Rai) are full of golden temples and elephant sanctuaries, surrounded by dense jungle. It’s a wild place and exciting to visit. If you’re interested in extending your itinerary, feel free to have a look at our guides to Chiang Mai below for inspiration!

READ MORE:  Leave Bangkok Behind and Head to Chiang Mai, Thailand AND Chiang Mai Chic: Thailand’s Hippest Mountain City

I would advise not to try to squeeze this into 7 days, especially if you’re traveling a long distance, it requires an additional domestic flight (or loooong train ride).

Krabi and Koh Lanta

Also, beyond Koh Yao Yai are more islands (including the famed Phi Phi Islands). You can visit Krabi, which is east of Phuket, and then head south of there to Koh Lanta. Koh Lanta is one of my favorite spots too, with a super laid-back vibe and tons of beach resorts. You can take a tuk-tuk around the island and have homemade Pad Thai almost anywhere. Here’s my full guide to Koh Lanta below!

READ MORE:  Koh Lanta, Thailand: Off the Grid and Gorgeous

Phi Phi Islands

Most people go to South Thailand and see the Phi Phi islands. Personally, I think they’re overrated, especially now that I’ve visited another ½ dozen Thai islands that are just as beautiful. Not to mention, recently they closed the famous sand on Koh Phi Phi Leh indefinitely, made famous by ‘The Beach’ film. If you can resist, try a tour leaving from Krabi via speedboat .

This is my second trip to Thailand, so definitely have a look at the other itineraries I’ve put together above too. You should have a blast Thailand island hopping, but don’t forget the incredible capital city of Bangkok and the northern regions of Chiang Mai. Plus, you can never do enough Thailand island hopping – there are tons more to see!

PS: if you want to save space on taking home sourviers, you can have something custom made from GS-JJ.com shipped to your door instead to commemorate the trip!

Love your pics! Love Thailand! Looks like you had a great time!

We still haven’t visited any part of Asia with the kids yet but Thailand is so incredible. We really need to start planning. The food, beaches and architecture from north to south is amazing. I can’t wait to experience it!!

I miss 30 baht Thai massages every night and all that incredible food. The resorts around Phuket look really off the hook and that infinity pool OMG that’s amazing!

' src=

Such fun tips. I definitely need to return and spend time in that Old Town area and visit rooftop bars and especially scuba dive. I’d love to splurge a couple of nights for that luxury too. Dreamy post. Pinned for later.

Thailand is the #1 country we want to visit — our only problem is deciding how long to spend there! Typically we only get one week off, so a 7-day itinerary is perfect. Bangkok, Phuket, and rooftop bars for sure… would love to add on Chiang Mai but it looks like it would make more sense to do Koh Yao Nai and Koh Yai Yai if we just have a week. Love your photo with the Singha beer, by the way. We really need to visit Thailand!!

7 Days in Thailand Itinerary (2024) - An Easy Family Itinerary for 1st Time Visitors

I travelled to thailand with my parents a few years ago. we were looking to get a taste of thailand and spent 7 days in thailand being tourists, visiting the most popular spots as this was the first time we saw an international destination as a family. this 7 days in thailand itinerary will help you get the most of your family holiday if it’s your first time here can be used as a 5 day thailand itinerary too..

While growing up, I realised Thailand was one of the first countries to get famous as an international holiday destination.

The country had become famous as a backpacking paradise (long before Hanoi , or Luang Prabang); however, it had also started to get recognised for its accessibility as a people-friendly destination due to the locals’ warmth.

The locals were welcoming and didn’t make visitors feel out of place. This was perfect for people visiting an international destination for the first time, especially for ones with kids and parents above a certain age.

Having one of the best cuisines in the world also helped, as no matter who the traveller, there was something to cater for everyone’s taste.

I visited with my parents, and I wanted to make sure our first time in Thailand was about introducing them to a culture that was different from theirs yet similar in many ways was the ideal way to ensure they didn’t experience culture shock.

Many travel agencies were advertising the perfect Thailand family itinerary to many. However, I was keen to put together an itinerary that was bespoke to our needs. This itinerary shares details of our 7 days in Thailand (not including the days we flew in and out of the country).

During this time, we visited Bangkok, Kanchanaburi and Phuket (including Phi-Phi and James Bond island). I hope this family itinerary for Thailand for 7 days helps you plan your ideal one-week getaway to Thailand.

The latest travel advice for travel to Thailand can be found here . Please ensure you check updates for your country before you travel.

7 days in Thailand Itinerary

A family itinerary for thailand.

HOW TO GET TO BANGKOK

Most international airlines fly to or via Bangkok. The Suvarnabhumi airport (which in Hindi translates to ‘Land of gold’, but Thailand is called the ‘Land of smiles’) is the central hub and one of the busiest in Asia, so getting flights to Bangkok shouldn’t be an issue.

Bangkok city is located about 30 minutes (32 kilometres) away. However, keep in mind that traffic in Bangkok is unpredictable, and you may be stuck in traffic for a while, especially during the evenings.

Thai Airways , the flag carrier of Thailand, has one of the best services I’ve experienced, and Thai Smile is their budget-friendly option for travel within the country or to neighbouring destinations.

It’s worth spending at least 2 days in Bangkok; however, we spent 3 days in Bangkok as getting some rest and starting with a new day was much needed.

BEST TIME TO VISIT THAILAND – Best to visit during winter which is between November to April when most of the country experiences dry spells and temperatures are pleasant. However since the country is big, there can be spells of rain and depending on where you’re planning to visit the weather can vary.

DAY 1 – Bangkok

Spend three days in bangkok on your 7 days in thailand itinerary.

Bangkok might remind many Indians of Mumbai with its bustling city life speckled with traditions and culture. The traffic might be a stark reminder too!

Once refreshed, the first spot anybody should visit on arrival in Bangkok is the  Grand Palace,  where the Royal family of Thailand resides   and the nearby complex of  Wat Pho,  which houses Thailand’s most extensive collection of images and statues of Buddha.

Visiting the palace grounds and the many open temples in the early morning when the crowds are sparse while admiring the architecture is fantastic.

Next, take a stroll across the street towards the  Wat Pho  complex to admire the reclining Buddha’s famous statue and the surrounding temple grounds.

End your first morning, enjoying heavenly views of Bangkok city, from the top of the  Wat Arun  Temple, situated by the Chao Phraya river. If you get here just before sunrise, the setting is picture-perfect from the opposite side of the river.

Spend the afternoon riding up and down from the central pier point on the  Chao Phraya  river in a water taxi.

Not is it relaxing and inexpensive, but you get a good description of the important sites as you pass them. Spend the evening on  Khao San  road, the 24×7 activity hub of the city.

People sat in a boat crossing the Chao Phraya river in Bangkok - Things to do on your 7 days in thailand itinerary

DAY 2 – Bangkok

Start your day with a mix of relaxation, culture and adventure! Head out as early as possible to the famous Khlong Lat Mayom  floating market in Taling Chan, about 10 km east of downtown Bangkok.

Eating here is easily the highlight of your visit to Bangkok, as visitors can order dishes like boat noodles and oyster omelette cooked fresh on a tiny wooden boat stationed besides your table.

You could also head off on a boat tour yourself and order while on it, then continue enjoying your meal as your guide takes you around explaining the floating market’s history and culture and why it is an essential livelihood for the people here.

Other things sold at the floating market in addition to fresh vegetables, food and fruits are fresh flowers, home decor, toys and clothing.

Exploring the floating markets takes about three-quarters of your day, so once done, head to your hotel to get some rest before heading out to grab dinner.

Bangkok is also well-known for its party scene so even if you aren’t looking to dance the night away at a club, look for a place with good views like the  Vertigo and Moon Bar  to sip on some excellent cocktails while enjoying an incredible unobstructed 360-degree view of the city.

Vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetable sin a floating market - Things to do on your 7 days in thailand itinerary

DAY 3 – Bangkok

In the earlier days, the Grand Palace area used to be where Chinese traders usually traded; they then moved to Yaowarat Road, which is where the heart of Chinatown is located.

Whether you are travelling alone or with friends and family, a stopover at  Chinatown  is a must.

The smells and sounds of this captivating neighbourhood is an outstanding sensory experience. For anyone visiting Bangkok for the first time, a full day spent in the labyrinth of alleys and street food vendors in this buzzing place makes for a memorable last day in Bangkok.

If spending the whole day here isn’t something you’re keen to do, and if your visit coincides with you spending the weekend (Friday to Sunday) in Bangkok, you could spend part of your day exploring Chatuchak Market .

One of the biggest markets in the country, it is a shoppers paradise, and you should be able to find everything you’re looking for here!

Once you’ve shopped to your heart’s’ content, head off to grab a nice traditional meal to wrap off the first leg of your 1 week in Thailand.

WHERE TO STAY IN BANGKOK

If you’re looking to stay in the heart of the city (which is convenient if you’re gonna be opting for day trips or move around a lot) these are a few of the best options:

Luxury: Mandarin Oriental Bangkok Located by the Chao Phraya river, even if this is a hotel, it takes away the hustle and bustle of the city and provides a feeling of calm and zen. It provides a free shuttle boat to Taksin BTS Skytrain Station, City Shopping Complex, ICONSIAM Shopping Mall, River and Sala Rim Naam Restaurant. It is about 2.2 miles from Chinatown and Wat Arun.

Mid-range: Villa Phra Sumen Bangkok

Located a mile away from the Grand Palace, Villa Phra Sumen Bangkok boasts of a private balcony for each room. The lighting across the villas is warm and the place is very welcoming. Worth a stay!

Budget-friendly : Tim Maison Bangkok

Located about 1.3 miles from the Grand Palace, each room is spacious, done brightly and has its own ensuite, private bathroom and air-conditioning.

A very long Golden sleeping Buddha at Wat Pho - Things to do on your 7 days in thailand itinerary

DAY 4 – Kanchanaburi

Spend 2 days in kanchanaburi on your 7 days in thailand itinerary.

Kanchanaburi is located about 150 kilometres away from Bangkok. Despite it being home to the famous WWII Death Railway, built by prisoners of the war and pleasant riverside retreats, few people visit Kanchanaburi, even though it is a little over two hours by road from Bangkok.

As this Thailand 7 day itinerary has Phuket next on the list, it is best to visit Kanchanaburi and return to Bangkok as it’s easier to fly to Phuket from Bangkok.

Many prioritized Kanchanburi due to its proximity to the Tiger Temple , a controversial place where visitors could take pictures with tigers and pet them. However, over the years, many now are aware that it’s inhumane to have animals treated this way and hence prefer to visit Kanchanaburi now for its rich history and culture.

If you have the budget, depending on how many people you have travelling with you, you should hire a private car to get around or opt for a day trip.

Head straight for a relaxed lifestyle lunch by the riverfront  The Village Farm To Cafe  once you get here for a hearty meal.

Next, take yourself back in history and visit the  Bridge over the River Kwai . Some of you may have watched the movie of the same name, the inspiration for which was this very site. The Bridge is equally mesmerizing at night when lit up. While there isn’t much to do around it, there are sometimes some street-food stalls you can grab a bite at here.

If you’re looking to learn more about the conditions here during the war, the Bridge and the dreadful conditions of the Allied prisoners of war while building the Bridge, the  Death Railway Museum  is an interactive way to do so.

Suppose you still have time to spare and aren’t tired of visiting museums already. In that case, the Hell Fire Pass Interpretative Museum , which focuses on the creation of the pass by the Allied prisoners of war and local labourers, is a good option.

Enjoy the rest of the evening at the gorgeous open-air  Dejtosapak Restaurant for a memorable dining experience amidst green sights.

Later, you can also opt for a raft ride offered by the restaurant to wrap the day up. Once done, head to your preferred resort to spend your first night in Kanchanaburi.

If you’re looking to spend just the day here, you probably will have time just to prioritize these two sights.

A yellow train passing on the tracks by the river in Kanchanaburi - Things to do on your 7 days in thailand itinerary

DAY 5 – Kanchanaburi

Once you’ve had your breakfast and are ready to start the day, you could opt to climb the 157 steps to get to the top of the stunning  Wat Tham Suea temple . Once you’re at the top, you will be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the rural Kanchanaburi.

If hiking isn’t your thing (is it worth it though), head directly to the  JEATH War Museum , which shed light on the state of Kanchanaburi before World War.

The museum is open from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

The rooftop of the museum offers a great view of the River Kwai Bridge from above.

Spend the second half of the day exploring the touristy, recently opened Mallika R.E 124 . Perfect if you’re tired or have kids, this city put together to showcase people’s way of life during King Rama’s V’s reign; it brings life to the architecture from those times. You can also indulge in street food, local fruits and even buy souvenirs to take back from here.

If spending another day at the museum isn’t to your liking, the Erawan waterfalls are located about an hour away and are among the best waterfalls in Thailand.

A waterfall with 7 tiers, the sea-green waters may remind one of Laos’s Kuang Si waterfalls. As with Kuang Si, you can swim in the waters here, depending on when you visit.

Return to Bangkok the same day or the next morning, depending on how much you’ve enjoyed the place and would like to rest.

WHERE TO STAY IN KANCHANABURI

If you’re looking to stay by the river or enjoy some relaxing time after an intense couple of days here are a few of the best options:

Luxury: U Inchantree Kanchanaburi U Inchantree Kanchanaburi is a 5 minute walk from the River Kwai, and is on the north bank. It also provides a free shuttle from Bangkok airport and has a pool.

Mid-range: Inchantreedoopool

Located 450 yards from The Bridge of the River Kwai, this stunning property features a garden, sun terrace, air conditioning and is very close to most museums.

Budget-friendly : Baan Ma Feung GuestHouse

Located in the heart of Kanchanaburi, just 30 meters from the bus station. It has air-conditioned rooms and a coffee corner.

DAY 6 – Phuket

Spend 2 days in phuket on your 7 days in thailand itinerary.

The next city on your 7 day trip to Thailand is in southern Thailand; the island territory of Phuket.  Since this is a quick trip, the flight+taxi option will take about four hours to reach Phuket.   travel options Here’s if you’re looking to book.

Spend your first time away from the buzzing city at  Karon  beach and then visit the island’s most well-known attraction and an excellent viewpoint for  Big Buddha .

If you can’t keep away from exploring, visit the historical area of Phuket Old Town , which has not just great architecture but many cute cafes and boutiques where you can spend hours on foot. If temples are your attraction of choice, Wat Chalong is the biggest Buddhist temple in Phuket that supposedly houses a bone fragment from Lord Buddha. These attractions help one get away from the beach and taste the island’s culture.

If you want to get a taste of the nightlife in Phuket, head to  Bangla Road,  where you can visit any of the clubs here to spend an enjoyable evening.

First-time visitors must set aside one full day to visit the  Phi Phi Islands,  located about 50 kilometres away from Phuket. This enthralling group of six islands tower high above the water displaying their incredible limestone cliffs.

To save time, hire a speedboat to get a glimpse of all the islands rather than the slow ferry. If you want a relaxing trip, select one island of your choice and spend the day snorkelling and swimming on that island.

Two boats harbored on the beach in Phuket - Things to do on your 7 days in thailand itinerary

DAY 7 – Phuket

It’s almost the end of your 7 days in Thailand, so it seems ideal to spend the day relaxing in the Pearl of the Andaman Sea and discover the dramatic coast on your own terms.

Hit the  Kata Beach  or the  Nai Harn Beach  to spend some time under the shady palms with just a scattered few vendors to keep you company.

If island-hopping is why you’re in Phuket, hire a speed boat or opt for a tour that will take you  island-hopping around Phang Nga Bay. James Bond Island  (of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and James Bond fame) is located here.

Coconut Island, Ko Lon and Ko He are some other islands you can choose to visit if you’d like to keep away from James Bond (officially Khao Phing Kan or Ko Khao Phing Kan) and Phi Phi.

If you’ve missed seeing elephants and love wildlife, the  Green Elephant Sanctuary Park  is the most ethical way of seeing these gentle animals in their natural habitat. You can not only swim with them here but also feed and clean them too.

Boats docked in Phuket with a turquoise sea and cliffs ahead - Things to do on your 7 days in thailand itinerary

WHERE TO STAY IN PHUKET

Luxury: The Westin Siray Bay Resort and Spa The property has panoramic views, is located by a peaceful coastline, has a spa and a private balcony with many free classes on offer

Mid-range: The Memory at On On Hotel

Patong Beach is 20 minutes away and the hotel is located in the Old Town that’s worth a explore itself. Each room has air conditioning and ensuite private bathrooms.

Budget-friendly : The Rommanee Boutique Guesthouse

Tastefully done rooms, each with a private bathroom and located in the old town, one of the best options for a budget-stay!

After spending two days in Phuket, you may fly to Bangkok and get a connecting flight to your destination from the Phuket International Airport or spend some additional time in Bangkok itself.

Thailand may seem like a place to tick off your bucket list but this place has such varied weather, food and sightseeing options available to suit every type of traveller that one visit isn’t enough.

Destinations like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Ko Samui, Pattaya, Ko Lanta, Sukhothai and Krabi are just some of the other places worth considering if you have more than 7 days in Thailand.

Thailand may entice you with its food, wildlife and value for money but I’m sure the warmth of its people will have you visiting this paradise more than once in your lifetime!

WHAT CAN YOU DO IN THAILAND IN 7 DAYS?

Quite a lot actually yet not too much! You can choose to spend your 1 week in Thailand in many ways. As mentioned above there’s so many other non-touristic cities you can pick. There’s Ayutthaya, Thailand’s Gulf islands, Northern Thailand like Chiang Rai. The options are endless! This Thailand trip itinerary gives you a taste of the cities that are most popular to ease you in.

CAN YOU DO IN THAILAND IN A WEEK?

Absolutely, yet to enjoy this beautiful, friendly destination I’d recommend at least a month! Since that isn’t feasible to most, 7 days to 2 weeks is a good amount. Spend at least 3 day in Bangkok and then divide the rest amongst how you’d like to spend it – either island hopping or exploring more cities.

HOW MUCH MONEY DO I NEED FOR 1 WEEK IN THAILAND?

I’d say depending on what your budget is, it can range a lot however for mid-budget travel, about 50 – 70 pounds a day for a family of two including all meals should suffice.

CAN YOU USE TAP WATER IN THAILAND?

IS THAILAND SAFE?

Very much so, however, as with each country and city anywhere in the world, be wary of certain areas and ask for recommendations to areas and pubs from your resort/hotel before staying out late pubbing. Be street smart for shopping and it’s all right to haggle if done respectfully!

How to Plan a 7-Day Trip to Thailand

A diverse group of travelers explore the vibrant streets of Bangkok in a bustling atmosphere.

To plan a 7-day trip to Thailand, start by deciding on the arrival city, such as Bangkok or Phuket. Next, plan out transportation options, whether it’s hiring a driver, using public transportation, or booking domestic flights.

Lastly, determine your top destinations and create an itinerary that allows for enough time to explore each location.

Decide on an arrival city

The first step in planning your 7-day trip to Thailand is deciding on the arrival city. The recommended arrival city for your adventure is Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), which is located in Bangkok.

This airport offers a wide range of international flights and serves as a  convenient entry point  for travelers visiting Thailand. From here, you can easily explore Bangkok and then continue your journey to other destinations in the country.

When choosing an arrival city, it’s important to consider factors such as  transportation options  and proximity to your desired destinations. Suvarnabhumi Airport provides various transport options like taxis, buses, and trains that can take you to different parts of Thailand.

Plan out transportation

Planning transportation is an important part of preparing for a 7-day trip to Thailand. It’s crucial to decide on the arrival city and then figure out how you’ll get around during your stay.

This could involve  booking flights, trains, or buses  depending on your preferred mode of transportation. You’ll also need to map out the routes between destinations and consider any  transfers or connections  that may be required.

Taking the time to plan transportation in advance can help ensure a smoother journey and make it easier to explore all the places you want to visit.

Once you’ve decided on your itinerary and chosen your top destinations, it’s time to book your transportation arrangements accordingly. Whether you’re flying between cities or taking a train or bus, it’s important to secure your tickets in advance whenever possible.

This will not only save you time but also give you peace of mind knowing that everything is taken care of. Navigating transportation in Thailand can be relatively easy as there are various options available including taxis, tuk-tuks, motorcycle taxis, and public transport systems like BTS Skytrain and MRT subway in Bangkok.

Determine your top destinations

To plan your 7-day trip to Thailand, it’s important to determine your top destinations. Consider what you want to see and experience during your vacation. If you’re interested in exploring the  bustling city life and cultural attractions , Bangkok is a must-visit destination.

You can explore  iconic landmarks like the Grand Palace and Wat Arun Temple  while taking a scenic Klong Tour.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for some  beach relaxation and island hopping , South Thailand offers  stunning destinations like Phuket and Phang Nga . In Phuket, you can stroll down Thalang Road, visit the Thai Hua Museum, and hop onto nearby islands such as Khao Phing Kan and Koh Hong Lek.

If you have more time or decide to extend your stay in South Thailand, consider visiting places like Krabi, Koh Lanta or Phi Phi Islands for picturesque landscapes and opportunities for outdoor activities.

What's Included:

Bangkok – A Temple Tour of Bangkok’s Best

There are over 400 temples in Bangkok and far too many to experience in one month, let alone one week. While you may not be able to see every temple, some stand out as the most majestic and famous within Thailand:  Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Arun, and Wat Pho. On your first full day in Bangkok, you will visit all three of them as well as the Grand Palace.

Today, you will fuel up for the adventure ahead with a complimentary breakfast. Be sure to slip on a comfortable pair of shoes and pack water, sunscreen, and snacks as you will not be returning to your luxury accommodation until later in the evening. Your hotel concierge will take care of everything for you. Once you have had breakfast, you can begin an immersive walking tour of Bangkok’s most attractive temples.

The journey will begin with a short walk to Wat Phra Kaew, which is commonly known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. It is an easy trip to the temple, with a short stop by the amulet market on your way. Here, you may purchase charms, amulets, totems, and other jewelry. You will then continue on to The Emerald Buddha, which is a temple that is regarded as one of the most sacred in Thailand. It is adjoined with the Grand Palace, and together they are a truly astounding spectacle. Picture-perfect camera shots will be in abundance, so be sure to have your preferred device on hand. ? Thai food market called Tha Tien Market where dried, salted seafood and other goods are sold. Wat Pho is home to the awe-inspiring 46 meters-long, gold-plated, Reclining Buddha. Travelers flock to see the immense monument as its sheer beauty can rarely be rivaled. While you explore all that it offers, you can learn more about King Rama I and the temple’s construction. It was in this temple that the first ever traditional Thai massage was practiced.

A temple tour of Bangkok will not be complete without visiting Wat Arun. The 70-meter tall temple towers up from the ground and is surrounded by smaller, but no less significant, temple sites and historical statues. The monument, encompassed in porcelain and glistening colored glass, looks over the Chao Phraya River.

After the tour, you will return to your hotel for an hour or two that will be at your leisure. Then, you will make your way to Thip Samai for arguably Bangkok’s best Pad Thai. The local eatery is not to be missed, especially for those who are after a truly authentic meal. Touted as the best Pad Thai in Thailand by Anthony Bourdain, a slightly longer queue than usual will definitely be worth the wait. Once you are finished with supper, you will venture back to your room for a night’s rest.

Ayutthaya – The Ancient City of Ayutthaya

There are many great sights in and around Bangkok, and many more than will be possible to see in one day. So, on the third day of your trip, you will explore the most appealing and inspiring attractions that are north of the city. You will then transfer via private coach from Bangkok to Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya is an ancient city which developed in the 14th Century. Its historical context offers a wealth of insight into traditional Thai culture, and the temple ruins retain their impressive nature. A trip out to Ayutthaya will prove to be a humbling one that will deeply enrich your expedition. The coach ride will take a little over an hour and a half, but it will not fail to impress you along the way. You will take delight in the picturesque, scenic views of Bangkok as you make your way to the old city.

Upon arrival in Ayutthaya, you will visit the Ayutthaya Historical Park. This UNESCO-listed Park contains grand palaces and a series of age-old monasteries, statues, and temples. Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, which is heavily influenced by both Chinese and European design, will be your first stop. A moat surrounds this aesthetically pleasing place  that reflects its design origins in true style. After that, visits to Wat Mahathat and Wat Na Phra Men will allow you to further explore Thai heritage. The Wat Mahathat, which is the next stop, is famous for its Head of the Buddha in which the statue’s head is surrounded by the roots of a large Banyan Tree. This iconic image has become famous through travelers’ content, and it is one that you must certainly capture. Wat Na Phra Men, the next Ayutthaya-period temple, is remarkable in the fact that it was one of the few that was unharmed by troops during the Burmese-Siamese War. Furthermore, it is home to one of only five seated Buddha images in Thailand.

After exploring more of the Park’s surroundings, you will find yourself sitting back comfortably on a river cruise along the Chao Phraya River. Delightful food and stunning views will keep you entertained as you make your way back to Bangkok. As you draw closer, witness the likes of Wat Arun and the Grand Palace from the comfort of the boat before docking and being transferred back to your hotel.

From your hotel, you will transfer to Thara Thong via tuk-tuk or private transport for a stunning dining experience. The restaurant, which overlooks the river, caters to vegetarians with endless meat-free options on the menu. You will return back to your accommodation eager for the day ahead.

Bangkok – Treat Yourself

Bangkok offers plenty of stunning attractions, but the city also boasts a shopping experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. There is an abundance of stalls and malls where travelers can splurge on souvenirs. From high-end, multiple-story shopping complexes to budget-beating markets, the fourth day of your tour will be entirely dedicated to treating yourself.

After breakfast, you will transfer from your hotel to Siam Square. Siam Square, better known as the heart of the city, is a mecca for shopaholics and travelers who are searching for keepsakes to take back home. The Siam area boasts some of Bangkok’s biggest shopping malls, and boutique markets can be found within the alleyways that connect the main streets. Your first stop will be Terminal 21, which is located on Sukhumvit Road. The incredibly unique aspect about the airport-inspired mall is that areas on each floor are dedicated to different major cities across the globe. The restaurants and shops are all themed accordingly. For instance, a short trip up the escalators will transport you from Tokyo to London. While it is not an entirely Thai experience, it is one that you cannot miss. This will be a great opportunity to pick up deals on fashionable items and tuck into any of the many, fine global cuisines. After shopping Terminal 21, you will head out of the complex and take a leisurely stroll around Siam Square. This area will be action-packed with endless entertainment to offer. Also located in the Siam Paragon shopping mall is Kidzania, which is an innovative ‘edutainment’ experience for young ones. Bangkok’s very own Madame Tussauds wax museum can be found in the Siam Discovery Center as well.

After an exciting morning in and around the energetic area, you will visit the Jim Thompson House. The exquisite museum tells the story of an American man who fell in love with Southeast Asian art and culture. The American architect is most famous for his role in reviving Thai silk and pioneering the use of it in world-class fashion houses in Europe’s hottest cultural destinations. The meticulous craft and unique blend of Eastern and Western art admirably position the museum as one of the most awe-inspiring attractions in the city.

Following the Jim Thompson House, your final destination for the day will be Pantip Plaza. The massive tech-focused mall can provide hours of shopping entertainment. If you wish to bypass shopping, you can transfer back to your hotel for an evening around the pool. For supper, you will have reservations at a local restaurant near your hotel. Your hotel concierge will make these reservations and will direct you to your local, Thai eatery. Finally, you will unwind over supper before returning to your hotel.

Bangkok – Master Thai Cuisine

Thailand is tremendously well-known for its cuisine and for a good reason. Traditional recipes have been handed down for centuries and authenticity is of the utmost essential aspects in the Thai kitchen. The heavy focus on elevating the senses and enriching all aspects of the flavor profile allows Thai cooks to achieve culinary excellence, even within unrecognized stalls and eateries. Although the processes behind the dishes are a mystery to most, you will be able to learn some of Thailand’s best-kept culinary secrets during this savory treat. After breakfast, you will transfer via shuttle to one of Thailand’s first-class culinary schools.

Your cooking school offers luxurious cooking classes that retain Thai authenticity. The classes are set amongst a beautiful backdrop of serene gardens and traditionally-minded décor. The completely hands-on class will begin in the morning and take you through midday. Here, you will learn to perfect the art of creating four essential Thai dishes. You can expect to master meals like traditional Hot and Sour Prawn Soup and Chicken Green Curry. The equipment will be in pristine condition, and the mentors will be professionally trained chefs.

For a fine-dining Thai cuisine experience, you will transfer from the cooking school to Suan Bua. The exquisite restaurant will serve traditional dishes with a modern flair and flavor. The authentically decorated restaurant overlooks a stunning garden setting and is the perfect way to end a cuisine-centered day. Afterward, you will transfer back to your hotel to relax and reset for the day ahead.

Bangkok – The Buzzing Markets of Bangkok

Bangkok hosts hundreds of markets as they form an intrinsic part of the local commercial culture. So, today will be dedicated to experiencing the best ones Thailand has to offer. As you stroll through the stalls, you will be enthralled by the buzzing energy that livens these markets. Tantalizing wafts of sizzling meat, and the cheers of entertainers chanting will fill the air. For today, you can look forward to a day of fun and food.

You can skip breakfast at your hotel to save time for your first stop. You will transfer from your hotel to your destination, Sampeng Market, via riverboat ride. One of Bangkok’s best markets for shopping and food, Sampeng Market (Chinatown) will be a highlight to get the day underway. Here, you will enjoy authentic Thai street food from any of the hundreds of stalls that litter the streets. You may shop for souvenirs, trinkets, and other odds and ends at extremely affordable prices.

After stocking up on snacks and treats, you will transfer to Amphawa Floating Market. A short trip from Bangkok, Amphawa Floating Market is a pivotal stop on your tour. Traditional floating markets will offer travelers the unique opportunity to explore stalls by boat. This particular market retains traditional practices and boasts a wide variety of vendors. So, sit back in the boat and wade through the river, hopping on and off to grab whatever catches your eye. From fresh and affordable seafood to local hand-crafted goods, there will be something for everyone on this delightful afternoon expedition. You will then transfer back to your hotel after exploring all Amphawa has to offer.

You will have done most of Bangkok’s best markets by now, but a Night Market is still on the list. For dinner and evening entertainment, you will transfer to Asiatique, the Riverfront. This luxurious open-air mall/market is clean, organized, and fashionable. It is a must-visit destination for finding authentic goods of exceptional quality. You can take a trip around the 200-foot Ferris wheel for a romantic nighttime view of the city. Then, you may dine on some delicious food before transferring back to your hotel.

Bangkok – Aroma Therapy

At this point, the busy week will have undoubtedly taken its toll. For the final day in Bangkok, you will have the opportunity to relax and unwind before preparing to head home. You can take this time to revisit the experiences and review the incredible photos of your journey.

After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, you will transfer to Bangkok’s best Wellness Spas.  The luxurious property is popular among many stylish expatriates because of its excellent service, great rates, and a sophisticated approach to the traditional Thai massage. Soak it all in over an Herbal Aroma Oil Body Massage. You will then transfer back to your hotel, feeling completely refreshed, ready to pack, and prepared for your flight back home. Finally, you will transfer to the airport from your hotel, knowing that you have explored the best of Bangkok during your 7-Day stay.

As a new moon was not sighted on Monday evening after Maghrib prayers, Muslims in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring countries will fast one more day, completing 30 days of Ramadan. The first day of Eid will then be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10.

The first day of Eid al-Fitr is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon marking the start of the month of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar.

How do Muslims celebrate Eid?

Traditionally, Eid is celebrated for three days as an official holiday in Muslim-majority countries. However, the number of holiday days varies by country.

Muslims begin Eid day celebrations by partaking in a prayer service that takes place shortly after dawn, followed by a short sermon.

On their way to the prayer, which is traditionally held in an open area, Muslims recite takbeerat, praising God by saying “Allahu Akbar”, meaning “God is great”.

It is customary to eat something sweet before the prayer, such as date -filled biscuits known as maamoul in the Middle East. This particular festival is known as the “sweet” Eid – and the distribution of sweets is common across the Muslim world.

Muslims usually spend the day visiting relatives and neighbours and accepting sweets as they move around from house to house.

Each country has traditional desserts and sweets that are prepared before Eid or on the morning of the first day.
