The 10th Annual Tour De North End Bicycle Festival!
Rockford Buzz
Posted on: september 22, 2021, share this post.
This year is the 10th annual Tour De North End Bike Festival in Rockford! The Tour De North End is a bicycle festival in Rockford that features over a dozen local businesses and encourages people to learn about bike safety, sharing the road, get outside, and see the North End neighborhood in Rockford as a bike-friendly area. It’s all happening this Saturday, September 25th, so make sure you check out the details below and grab your favorite bike!
TDNE riders will register/check-in at the Olympic Tavern at 11 am-1 pm while House Brotherhood DJs spin live vinyl, then at 1 pm they’ll head out to 15+ other North End locations to collect passport stamps — the more stamps collected, the more chances to win prizes at the end of the fest. Riders should return to The Olympic Tavern to redeem passports for entry tickets from 430-6 pm while dancing to The Stevee Nixx — no passports will be redeemed after 6:01 pm! Then at 6:30 pm, we will draw tickets for one lucky rider to take home a New Belgium Fat Tire Bicycle, while others will play more mini-games and win gift baskets and prizes, as as well as prizes for craziest bike, the best group costume, and more, courtesy of North End neighborhood businesses & New Belgium Brewery.
Preregister online at https://tourdenorthend.com/ or riders can buy a ticket at the check-in tent on the day of the event from 11 am-1:30 pm. Two dollars from every rider’s entry fee will go directly to a Rockford cycling charity/cause — this year our recipient is Rockford United Way’s ROLLIN’ STRONG program, a program that teaches at-risk youths how to repair and build bikes.
TDNE is a rain or shine event. Riders should dress for the weather and bring a bike lock, water bottle, and helmet (and lots of friends)! There will be other cycling events throughout the day (bike safety & "how-to/fix-it” demos from Kegel’s Bicycle Store, slow ride competition, trackstand competition, etc). Families with kids are encouraged to join the festival but per state law children under 21 may not win prizes. The day’s schedule of events and more info are available at TOURDENORTHEND.COM and the Tour De North End Facebook page. Riders can email [email protected] for any further questions.
The TDNE would not be possible without the generous help of all the participating businesses in Rockford’s North End, New Belgium Brewing Company, the entire crew at Kegels’ Bicycle Shop, alderman Gina Meeks, the RMAP (Rockford Metropolitan Agency for Planning) the Rockford Police Department, Greg Lang & Fatherless design, and all our volunteers & sponsors.

Leaders promote bike safety at annual Tour De North End Festival
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - According to the Illinois Department of Transportation , there have been 24 bicyclist fatal crashes in Illinois as of Saturday. To reduce the number, Tour De North End returns to Rockford to promote biker safety.
Leaders have one thing on their mind Saturday at the 12th annual Tour De North Bike Festival, which is to make sure riders follow all safety procedures.
More than 200 bikers participated in Saturday’s Tour De North in Rockford. The event promotes bike safety, wellness and the importance of outdoor recreation.
“Riding with the rules of the road,” said Zak Rotello, Olympic Tavern general manager. “Everybody who signs up and walks in today gets a Little League of Illinois Bicyclists Rules of the Road pack, we encourage drivers to ride safely on the road with cyclists and give 3 feet, that’s the law.”
“If you’re not watching what’s going on you don’t know what’s going to happen, but you have to be protective, you have to be prepared,” said participant Mike Edgeston.
He says when he first got his bike, his family made sure he was going to wear a helmet.
“You never know when you’ll pass out, you never know when somebody run out in front of a car, car run out in front of you,” Edgeston said.
Robb Sinks, Kegel’s Bicycle Store owner, says when riding in the street, always ride with traffic.
“Never ride against the traffic because you are a vehicle, so ride with traffic because it’s much much safer than riding against it,” he said.
Rotello says he hopes bike safety extends way after the event ends. He says to avoid accidents between cars and bikes, bikers should reach out their local elected officials to encourage them to make biking a regular form of transportation by extending bike paths.
“Connecting those bike paths and connecting the neighborhoods in Rockford and including cycling infrastructure with streets is really important to all of us in the community,” he said.
Sinks says before any bike rides, make sure to check if tires are filled with enough run and run a standard brake and gear check to ensure to get to the destination without any feelings.
For those who are not bikers, the event also served as a block party at Rockford’s North End neighborhood to encourage the community to get outside and explore the neighborhood.

Moscow Metro
The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.
What is the kremlin in russia?
The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.
And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.
During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.
There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:
From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.
At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.
According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.
The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.
Coffee Ring
The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.
Zodiac Metro
According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.
Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.
Paleontological finds
Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!
