The Star: Dallas Cowboys Tour Highlights
I f you’re ever in Frisco, Texas, there’s one experience you absolutely can’t miss: a tour of The Star, the Dallas Cowboys’ legendary headquarters and practice facility. It’s a must-do, especially if you bleed blue and silver.
I admit I’m not much of a football fan, but since I loved my Lambeau Field tour a couple of years ago, I thought The Star Dallas Cowboys Tour would be fun too! Guess what? I loved it! So, keep reading to see some of the tour highlights.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE STAR: DALLAS COWBOYS TOUR
Grand atrium.
The coolest thing in the Grand Atrium? It’s gotta be “Volume Frisco,” a massive LED sculpture by artist Leo Villareal. There are 19,200 twinkling lights hanging in a grid, lighting up 24/7 with 225 levels of brightness. And get this – the pattern never repeats itself. It’s a light show that never gets old!
Take a peek at the Italian marble floors, and you’ll spot the plaques of all the legends in the Ring of Honor at AT&T Stadium. Instead of having their numbers retired, these greats are honored with a spot in the Ring of Honor. And if they’re NFL Football Hall of Famers, too, you’ll see that noted on their plaque.
Superbowl Trophies
Did you know Tiffany is the mastermind behind crafting the sterling silver Super Bowl trophies? It’s quite the process – each one takes around four months to create. And get this: despite their grand appearance, they’re actually hollow, so they’re not as heavy as you might think, tipping the scales at around 70 pounds. What’s really interesting is that every trophy looks identical, except for the Roman numeral indicating the specific game—team names are never added.
Super Bowl Rings
Right across from the trophies, you’ll find replicas of the Super Bowl rings. They’re like miniature versions of the big wins, with one dazzling diamond for each Super Bowl victory. Each team gets to design its ring, which can cost a pretty penny—up to $70,000! The NFL chips in $500 per ring for up to 150 rings, but the team foots the rest of the bill.
Helmet Wall
This wall is adorned with helmets representing all 32 NFL teams. The AFC is on the left, the NFC on the right, and each team is neatly organized by division in alphabetical order.
The wall stays completely lit during the offseason. But as soon as the season kicks off, all the helmets go dark except for Dallas and their weekly opponent. And when it’s Dallas’ bye week? You guessed it – only their helmet stays lit.
Jerry Jones Experience
In this unique virtual experience, visitors can interact with none other than Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones. You can ask him questions, and AI generates his responses. Now, he won’t spill the beans on current football stuff, but he’s game for chatting about his childhood, college days, meeting his wife, and those early Cowboys years. It’s a pretty neat setup, but just a heads up – no snapping photos or shooting videos allowed! The experience is offered twice daily and lasts about 15-20 minutes.
The Practice Field
Get ready for the ultimate photo op! Stepping out onto the practice field was hands down one of the best moments of the tour for me. It’s where all the action goes down, and being right there was absolutely unforgettable.
Pro Bowl Display
Organized around the line of scrimmage, panels represent various positions on offense and defense. The player featured on each plaque holds the record for the most Pro Bowl appearances in that position.
Private Gym
The private gym is exclusively reserved for the team’s use. What’s unique about it? Well, all the machines in the center are computerized. Players simply input their number and workout details—weights, reps, you name it—and it’s all sent directly to their strength training coach.
Plus, tucked away inside the gym is a Gatorade smoothie bar where a nutritionist crafts each player’s smoothie tailored to factors like position, injury rehab, or weight goals. Each day’s smoothie might differ—everything’s customized for peak performance.
Locker Room
Unfortunately, we couldn’t check out the locker room since players were in the building, hitting the gym. But it’s shaped like a football, which is pretty cool.
Inside, there are 76 lockers, despite only needing 53 for the main roster. Why the extras? Well, they’re strategically placed next to the higher-profile players so the press can easily chat with them. And get this: there’s a massive hot tub so big they call it “Lake Landry,” cold plunge tubs, and even an underwater treadmill.
Plus, tucked behind the showers is a rookie locker room. Why? They’re in their own space until they make the main roster and earn their star. Oh, and here’s an interesting tidbit: the locker room isn’t organized by position or anything like that. Instead, players are all mixed up, with veterans typically at the ends. It’s all about fostering camaraderie.
Super Bowl Wall
This wall is a tribute to every Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl victory, featuring photos, stats, and more. What’s cool is that there’s still space left for future wins! Our guide shared an interesting fact: back when they clinched their first Super Bowl win, a 30-second commercial cost just $86,000. Fast-forward to their most recent victory in 1995, and that price skyrocketed to over a million dollars. And get this—last year, it hit a whopping $7.2 million. Talk about inflation!
The Touchstone
The team’s cherished good luck charm stands next to the practice field. Emblazoned with the powerful mantra, “It is a privilege, not a right, to play, coach, and work for the Dallas Cowboys,” it is a constant reminder of the honor and responsibility of being part of the team.
Indoor Stadium
The 12,000-seat arena in Frisco is shared among the Dallas Cowboys, the City of Frisco, and Frisco ISD. Monday through Friday, it’s the Cowboys’ indoor practice facility. It hosts high school football, soccer, and lacrosse games in the evenings. It also serves as a venue for events like the Academy of Country Music Awards and the upcoming Dallas Open tennis tournament.
