travel up avis

So I am on my way to a holiday in Feutuerventura in June.

We are looking at using Travelup.com just to book a hotel - it looks really good and a nice price, though as I do not know and have not used the site before I'm worried it's a scam. The price I found for the hotel we want is around 40 euro cheaper per night than what I can find on other sites.

Thanks for taking the time to view and reply! If anyone else you would like to know, please just say!

Do they “work with Skyscanner” or just pay to advertise on that site. Don’t assume there is a relationship based on any guarantee, endorsement or recommendation. It’s usually just third-party sites paying to advertise so their deals are displayed.

https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ForumHome

Out of curiosity I just looked at the TravelUp website and searched for some Singapore hotels (as I know them well and know their usual prices). The first hotel I saw listed came out at 68.88 Euro more than it’s usual price. Then I looked up a Brisbane Hotel I know well and it was 145.94 Euro on TravelUp (but is 84.50 Euro if I book it on other websites).

All the prices I saw on TravelUp looked way over what they are on other well-known and reliable booking sites.

travel up avis

It is a legitimate site not necessarily a good one.

I agree wiht the other two replies. TravelUp is not a scam site, but neither do I think that it's a good company to use. I'm sure that more bookings go well than don't, but all the same I wouldn't trust a price that is 40 euro per night lower than anywhere else.

My experience is, like Avanti, that their prices are a bit higher than booking direct, so I'm even more suspicious in this instance.

"Legit" as in legitimate rip-off. Avoid this site like the plague.

It's not even an easy to use website

you select a hotel for more information, decide that you don't like it and want to go back to the list and it recreates the list from scratch having conveniently forgotten all of your previous selections

It wont let you open up each hotel in a new window to avoid that problem

and half the hotels that they claim are in the city you are looking for are really 20 km away.

where do they get these people?

In principle, if a company makes an error then they should absorb the cost of that and not pass it on to their customers. But poor companies won't worry about that, because they are poor.

' class=

They advertised FREE CANCELLATION on my booking but then charged me $15 per person to cancel my reservation. Even though FREE should mean free, they referred me to the "fine print". I would not recommend this site to anyone

Did the T&C's explain why free wan't free? I suspect that here were certain exclusions listed, was that the case, or was it something else?

' class=

I have used them once in the past for hotel booking and had absolutely no problem

Positive highlights.

  • Just wanted to share a quick update on my booking experience so far—it's been smooth sailing!
  • The booking process was super easy and cost effective.

Critical highlights

  • Appalling customer service and would never use them again!
  • Called credit card and will report to attorney general to get people arrested and company shut down

“Great”

Great. Always find the best price at Travel Up with clear descriptions of how many and what kind of beds are in each room!

“Sad to say I would never use them again”

Sad to say I would never use them again. I had to change the date within 72 hours because of a work meeting. When I tried to rebook our hotel, the price was now $900+ more for the same 7 days. I checked directly with the hotel and their rate was $560 less than Travel Up. I told Jacob to match it or cancel it. After a few more blah blah emails from Jacob, I finally got canceled. A rip off and not at all a nice experience.

The Ultimate Guide to Avis Car Rental [Avis Preferred Loyalty Program]

How To Join Avis Preferred

Avis preferred status levels, how to earn avis points, double dip on points, how to use avis points, how to reserve a car through avis, reservations, partner offers, avis locations, airline and hotel points partners, frequent flyer tax, other partners, avis mobile app, avis for business, avis customer service, avis vs. budget, final thoughts.

We may be compensated when you click on product links, such as credit cards, from one or more of our advertising partners. Terms apply to the offers below. See our Advertising Policy for more about our partners, how we make money, and our rating methodology. Opinions and recommendations are ours alone.

There are many websites to book car rentals, and they all offer different rates, specials, terms, and loyalty programs.

This post is an in-depth look at Avis, including a breakdown of the Avis Preferred rewards program. You’ll learn what Avis offers and how to maximize each rental.

The Avis Preferred Program

Avis Preferred is a loyalty program offered by Avis . This program is revenue-based, so you will earn points based on how much you spend . Then you can use those points for free rentals, upgrades, and accessories.

To join Avis Preferred, you only need to sign up online . You will then get an Avis Wizard Number , your Avis Preferred membership number. You can use this number to log in to your account once enrolled.

There are 3 levels of status in the program — Avis Preferred, Avis Preferred Plus, and Avis President’s Club.

Avis Preferred Program

Avis Preferred

As an Avis Preferred member, you will enjoy expedited service, can go straight to your car at most locations, and earn a minimum of 100 points on each rental. The program is free to join and does not require any minimum activity to remain active.

The only requirements are that you must be:

  • At least 25 years old
  • A resident of the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Not previously terminated by any Avis program or denied rental opportunities for any reason

Avis Preferred Plus

Avis Preferred Plus is the program’s mid-level status. You’ll earn Avis Preferred Plus after 10 rentals or $4,000 spent . Benefits of this level include:

  • Free 1 car class upgrade when reserving a midsize or above (when available)
  • Dedicated reservations number
  • Access to exclusive offers and discounts

Avis President’s Club

Avis President’s Club is the highest status in the Avis program and is awarded after 20 rentals or $6,000 spent . Benefits of this level include:

  • Free 2-car class upgrade when reserving a midsize or above (when available)
  • Guaranteed availability of up to a full-size car with a confirmed reservation at least 24 hours in advance

Credit Cards That Include Avis Elite Status

You can fast-track your way to Avis Preferred status with the right credit card in your wallet. The following cards offer complimentary Avis status:

Avis Preferred Plus Status

  • The Business Platinum Card ® from American Express
  • Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve ®
  • The Platinum Card ® from American Express
  • Visa Infinite cards
  • World Elite Mastercards
  • United Club℠ Infinite Card

Hot Tip: For more information, check out our detailed guide to credit cards that include car rental elite status .

Other Programs That Include Avis Elite Status

Priority Pass members and United MileagePlus Premier Silver and Premier Gold elites are eligible for Avis Preferred Plus status.

United MileagePlus Premier Platinum and Premier 1K elites are eligible for Avis President’s Club status.

You will earn Avis Preferred points every time you rent a car (a minimum of 100 points), and your earning potential is based on your elite status within the program.

A qualifying car rental is completed and paid for at a participating Avis location.

Qualifying rentals do not include any opaque rental (when you don’t know the rental agency until after you pay) from sites like Hotwire or Priceline . Rentals using certain discount codes also do not count as qualified rentals.

Bottom Line: Joining Avis Preferred is free, and you will earn a 100-point bonus when you rent a car within the first 3 months.

Whenever you rent a car, make sure you are double dipping on points — earning both car rental program points and credit card points ! Lots of credit cards offer bonus points on car rental purchases.

Earn 3x points per $1 for car rentals on these cards (when booking directly through Avis):

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve card
  • Ink Business Preferred ® Credit Card

Earn 2x points or miles per $1 for car rentals on these cards (when booking directly through Avis):

  • Capital One Venture X card
  • Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred ® Card
  • CitiBusiness ® / AAdvantage ® Platinum Select ® Mastercard ®
  • United Club Infinite card

There are a few credit cards that earn elevated rewards on car rentals through their respective portals.

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve card: 10x points per $1 spent via Chase Travel
  • Capital One Venture X card: 10x miles per $1 spent via Capital One Travel
  • Capital One Venture card: 5x miles per $1 spent via Capital One Travel

However, if you book through one of these portals, your Avis elite status may not be honored .

Redeeming Avis points is easy and starts at as few as 250 points for accessories and 700 points for car rentals .

There are 4 levels of point redemptions based on the cost per day of your rental (not including any Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD), coupon codes, special rates, or any other offer). There are no blackout dates for rentals using award points.

Searching for a car on Avis.com is easy. Enter your pick-up location, date, and pick-up time on the main screen and click Select My Car . Some optional fields will pop up that you can choose to fill out or not. If you have an Avis Wizard Number or discount code, enter it here.

Avis home screen

To sort your list by price, mileage, or the number of seats, just use the sort button right above the search results.

You will notice there are 2 different prices: one if you pay at the counter and a lower one if you pay in advance .

Avis car rental search results

Using the Pay Now price can save you up to 30% off the base rates, but there is a drawback — you will pay a fee if you have to cancel your reservation .

  • If you cancel at least 24 hours ahead of time, you will be charged $50.
  • If you cancel within 24 hours, a fee of $150 will be charged.
  • You will forfeit the entire amount paid if you are a no-show for a prepaid reservation.

After you choose Pay Now or Pay At Counter, you can confirm your details and choose any extras you may want to add, like insurance or entertainment.

You will see some package options, including insurance and extras. This is where you can customize your insurance package and add extras, including child safety seats. Just check the box for any options you want to include, then click the red Continue button at the bottom of the page.

Avis car rental insurance and extras

Before you purchase insurance through Avis, check to see if your credit card comes with car rental insurance .

Many cards, such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, Chase Sapphire Reserve card, and Capital One Venture X card, even come with primary car rental insurance , meaning you don’t have to access your other insurance first.

There are a few things you can do when you click on the Reservations tab in the main menu.

Avis Reservations

First, you can make a new reservation by clicking Make a Reservation and proceeding through the search process as described above.

To change an existing reservation , click on View/Modify/Cancel and enter your last name and reservation number

You can get a copy of your rental agreement and receipt by clicking on Get e-Receipt . You will need the country of rental, your last name, and your confirmation number.

Another thing you can do here is access TripIt . This is a separate service that keeps your travel details in 1 master online itinerary, including directions, maps, and even weather.

Hot Tip: Don’t forget to check Avis’ policy on tolls , so you know how much you’ll be charged ahead of time.

Avis Promo Codes, Discounts, and Special Offers

To see the current deals and promo codes being offered by Avis, click on Offers in the main menu. You can see U.S. Offers, International Offers, and Partner Offers.

Avis coupon codes discounts and offers

To use a discount code (including coupon codes and AWD codes), input the code at the beginning of your search in the Discount Codes box. Then it will be automatically applied as you go through your search.

Hot Tip: You can use a coupon code and an AWD (Avis Worldwide Discount) code on a single rental, but you can’t use 2 coupon codes or 2 AWD codes.

Avis partner offers consist of discounts and deals offered by select companies that partner with Avis. These offers can be found on the home page of Avis.com or by clicking Offers>Partner Offers from the main search bar.

Offers are subject to change but may include the following:

To search by an address, ZIP code, city, or attraction, click on Find A Location . You can also search by state by clicking on All US Locations or by country by clicking on All Global Locations .

Miles, Points, and Partners

If you would rather earn airline miles or hotel points for your Avis car rental, you can do that through Miles, Points & Partners under the Cars & Services tab in the main menu.

Earn miles through Avis car rental

You can earn airline or hotel points on your rental instead of Avis points. Participating airlines and hotel chains include (but are not limited to):

  • American Airlines: Earn 2 to 5 base AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points per dollar spent
  • British Airways: Earn 3 Executive Club Avios per dollar spent on Avis car rentals plus earn 1,000 bonus Avios on your first rental when you join Avis Preferred.
  • Cathay Pacific Airlines: Earn 500 Asia Miles per qualifying rental
  • Etihad Airlines: Earn 3 to 5 Etihad Guest miles per qualifying dollar spent plus 1,000 miles after joining Avis and a bonus of 2,000 to 5,000 miles on your first rental
  • Frontier:  Earn 50  Frontier Miles  per rental per day on all qualifying rentals, or 500 miles on qualifying rentals of 5 days or more
  • JetBlue: Earn 100 TrueBlue Points per day (up to 5 days) on qualifying rentals at participating airport locations
  • Southwest:  Earn 600 Rapid Rewards points per rental
  • Spirit Airlines:  50 Free Spirit miles on rentals 4 days or less, or 500 Free Spirit miles on 5+ day rentals
  • United MileagePlus : Earn 500 to 1,250 base United MileagePlus miles per rental
  • Virgin Atlantic: Earn 500 to 1000 Virgin Points per rental
  • Best Western:  Earn 1,000 Best Western Rewards points  per rental on qualifying rentals
  • Choice:  Earn 1,000 Choice Privileges points per rental on all qualifying rentals
  • Hyatt Hotels & Resorts:  Earn 500 World of Hyatt points per rental on all qualifying rentals
  • Radisson:  Earn 750 Radisson Rewards Americas points per rental on all qualifying rentals
  • Wyndham:  Earn 100 Wyndham Rewards points per rental on all qualifying rentals

This program is not without drawbacks. When you choose to earn points from certain hotels and airlines, you will be charged a fee .

Depending on the length of your rental, this fee can negate much of the value of the bonus points, so it’s probably best to avoid the following programs if you can (especially for long rentals):

  • Alaska Airlines: $0.75 per day
  • American Airlines: $1 per day
  • Best Western Hotels & Resorts: $0.75 per day
  • Choice Hotels: $0.75 per day
  • Copa Airlines:  $1 per day
  • Frontier Airlines: $0.75 per day
  • Hawaiian Airlines: $0.75 per day
  • Hyatt Hotels: $0.75 per day
  • JetBlue Airways:  $1 per day
  • Radisson Hotels: $0.75 per day
  • Southwest Airlines:  $1 per day
  • Spirit Airlines: $0.75 per day
  • Wyndham Hotels & Resorts: $0.75 per day

In addition to hotel and airline partners, Avis partners with other companies to offer discounts and special offers:

  • Exclusive Resorts
  • Fairfield Resorts
  • Holiday Network
  • Lincoln Black Label
  • Pebble Beach Company
  • Scootaround – Mobility Scooters
  • Veterans Advantage

Avis and Budget are 2 well-known car rental companies. So, what’s the difference between them? Not much.

They are, in fact, the same company . Budget owns Avis (as well as Payless Car Rental), so their offerings and loyalty programs are very similar. However, their prices can be different.

Hot Tip: If you don’t want to check multiple car rental websites each time you rent, consider searching through a site like Kayak — it will show you the prices for many different sites all in one place. Then you can go to the site with the lowest price to complete your booking. For more tips, check out our guide to saving money on car rentals .

Avis is just one of many car rental agencies to choose from. It offers an easy-to-use website plus discount codes and partner offers.

The Avis Preferred program lets you earn points based on rental activity that you can redeem for free rentals or accessories. You even have the option to earn hotel points or airline miles every time you rent a car!

For Capital One products listed on this page, some of the above benefits are provided by Visa ® or Mastercard ® and may vary by product. See the respective Guide to Benefits for details, as terms and exclusions apply.

If you book a rental car with Avis, then take the extra step to enroll in the rental company’s Avis Preferred membership program. Avis Preferred is free to join, and as a member, you’ll earn Avis Preferred Points that can be used toward future rentals. Uniquely, you also have the option to earn miles and points with Avis’ travel partners in lieu of Avis Preferred Points. This means that you can earn currencies like Southwest Rapid Rewards points or World of Hyatt points instead if you'd like.

Plus, if you book enough rental cars with Avis to reach Avis Preferred Plus status, you’ll unlock even better benefits. These include complimentary upgrades (whenever available), a faster rate of rewards earning, and access to an exclusive phone number for reservations and customer service support.

This guide to Avis Preferred will tell you what you need to know about the program and how it could benefit your travels.

Elite status tiers

The Avis Preferred loyalty program consists of three levels you can earn: Avis Preferred, Avis Preferred Plus and Avis President's Club. It’s free to become an Avis Preferred member, but it’ll take some effort to earn higher tiers.

Avis Preferred

If you’re new to renting with Avis, you’ll likely begin as an Avis Preferred member, the lowest of the three status tiers. To join, simply register online — it’s a quick process that requires you hand over personal information like your name, address, driver’s license and credit card information, which is saved and auto-populates at checkout when you’re ready to rent.

Its perks include:

The ability to bypass the rental car counter.

The ability to earn Avis Preferred Points on qualifying Avis spend.

It’s not the most exciting of membership programs but considering it’s free to join, it’s hard to knock it. And don’t dismiss the timesaver that skipping the rental counter can be.

Avis Preferred Plus

Avis Preferred Plus is the middle tier of Avis’ rental car loyalty program. Its perks include:

A free, single car class upgrade upon availability.

The ability to earn additional bonus points on each rental.

Access to exclusive offers and promotional discounts.

How to become a Preferred Plus member

Avis Preferred members who complete 10 rentals or spend $4,000 on qualifying Avis purchases within a calendar year automatically earn Avis Preferred Plus status.

Avis President's Club

Avis President's Club is the highest tier of status that you can earn with Avis. Benefits of President's Club status include:

Double upgrades, when available.

Guaranteed vehicle availability.

50% more Avis Preferred points for every dollar you spend on rentals.

How to become a President's Club member

To earnAvis President’s Club status, you must complete 20 rentals or spend $6,000 on qualifying Avis purchases in a calendar year.

Chairman's Club (invite only)

Avis' Chairman's Club membership is a perk of participating in a vacation club called Exclusive Resorts. But good luck joining Exclusive Resorts, as the "exclusive" descriptor is no joke. How to earn Avis Preferred Points

The more you spend with Avis, the higher your Preferred Points earnings rate. Here’s how it breaks down:

Here’s another bit of good news for customers: Every rental earns a minimum of 100 points. That means even a $50, one-day rental still nets 100 points (rather than just 50 had there not been that minimum).

How to redeem Avis Preferred Points

Avis Preferred Points can be redeemed for car rentals, upgrades or accessories like ski racks and booster seats. Their value roughly corresponds to the price to rent at the counter in cash.

With car rentals, Avis groups award bookings into levels based on ranges correlated to the standard daily cash rates. Depending on where in that range the cash price falls determines the points cost.

Nerdwallet’s estimated value per point is based on the midpoint of the cash price range, except for Reward Level 1, where point value is based on a $50 cash rate.

The sweet spot here is to use your points for a vehicle that costs as close to $50 per day, without actually exceeding $50.

How to earn other travel rewards through your Avis car rental

Avis also gives you the option to earn miles and points with dozens of airline and hotel loyalty programs (you can choose one from the list) in lieu of earning Avis Preferred Points.

Maybe you’re trying to rack up Japan Airlines miles to fund airfare to the Tokyo Olympics. Perhaps you just don’t like the idea of tons of loyalty programs accounts with tiny balances, and would prefer accruing points into one account with a heftier balance.

If that’s you, it’s generally a better deal to opt out of earning Avis Preferred Points and instead opt in to earning travel partner miles or points. Though there’s no double-dipping; you can enroll in only one program at a time.

travel up avis

To do that, log in to your Avis Preferred account, click on the rewards tab and toggle between how you want to earn rewards. If you choose the travel partners option, select your airline or hotel from a dropdown and then input your membership number from that program to sync the two accounts.

However, you don’t necessarily earn airline miles at the same rate you earn Preferred points. Often, the value is much lower than had you chosen Avis Preferred Points. Further, the number of points earned is unique to each loyalty program.

Here are some of Avis' major travel partners to consider (visit its site for a complete list of airline partners and hotel partners ):

Miles or points earned on all qualifying rentals:

Alaska Airlines: 50 Mileage Plan miles per day or 500 miles on rentals of five or more days.

American Airlines: 500 AAdvantage miles per rental.

Hyatt: 500 World of Hyatt Bonus Points per rental.

JetBlue: 100 TrueBlue points per rental day (up to five days).

Southwest Airlines: 600 Rapid Rewards Points at participating locations.

Wyndham: 100 Wyndham Rewards points per rental

Some travel partners also offer additional discounts or promotions. Check with your loyalty program for the most up-to-date information.

Should you choose hotel and airline rewards over Avis Preferred Points?

In many cases, the decision to claim Avis Preferred Points versus other loyalty program rewards depends on the length of your rental and how much it costs per day.

Choosing points through, say, Southwest (which earns about $10 worth of points per rental) is usually better for a short rental of a compact car. On the flip side, choosing Avis points is typically more valuable for more expensive or longer rentals.

Say you’re renting a fancy sports car for a week that’s otherwise going to cost $1,000. You’d earn 1,000 Avis Preferred Points as a base-level member, or 1,500 points if you’re in Tier 2 of the Avis Preferred Plus program. Using a rough estimation of Avis Preferred Points at 5 cents each, you’d earn between $50 to $75 in value (depending on your status). That’s far more than the roughly $10 value you’d get in Southwest Rapid Rewards Points.

Everyone’s situation is different, but a quick calculation of the points you’d earn using our point valuations can give you a straightforward, quantitative answer. But travel rewards are about more than just numbers. Ask yourself how often you’ll really use Avis points. Even if $10 worth of Rapid Rewards points feels pitiful, that’s at least more useful if you’re already committed to building your Southwest account balance. Otherwise, you might earn $50 worth of Avis points that may collect (virtual) dust if you're not committed to renting from it again.

The bottom line

Is it worth joining the Avis Preferred loyalty program? Since the program is free to join and requires minimal effort, it’s almost always worth becoming a member if you place some value on earning travel rewards. Even if you don’t necessarily want to earn Avis Preferred points, you’ll still need to join in order to earn points toward other travel programs, like Alaska Airlines or Wyndham.

Don’t forget to stack your Avis Preferred rewards with credit card rewards, too. Many travel credit cards earn rewards at an elevated rate for rental car spending. Plus, some of the best credit cards for rental cars offer other benefits that can save big money on your next car rental, like trip cancellation insurance and car rental insurance .

You must continue hitting the tier requirements (either 12 rentals or $5,000 in qualifying Avis spend) every year to retain your status. Tier membership resets every January, so your progress for the following calendar year is based on your Avis loyalty in the current year.

Avis Preferred Points typically cannot be sold or transferred. However, in the event of an Avis Preferred member’s death, Avis will typically be able to transfer unredeeemed Avis points to a family member or friend who is also an Avis Preferred Member.

Avis Preferred Points are valid for 60 months (that’s five years) from when they were earned. After that, points are forfeited and surrendered back to Avis. That’s actually a very generous amount of time, but now for the bad news: You lose your points if you go inactive, and it’s relatively easy to accidentally go inactive. You’re considered inactive if you go 12 months without either completing an eligible rental or earning/redeeming Avis Preferred Points. Once you go inactive, your points are forfeited without notice.

Avis Preferred: How to maximize points and status

Kyle Olsen

With over 5,000 locations worldwide, you can find an Avis branch in most major cities. Its loyalty program, Avis Preferred, is free to join and can help you skip the line at the rental counter at some locations. Preferred members have their rental preferences and details on file, making picking up your vehicle quick and convenient.

Also, at some U.S. locations, Avis Preferred members can select their car on the mobile app. The mobile app lets you make reservations, view and modify bookings, access receipts and manage your Avis Preferred profile.

Ahead of what's likely to be a record-busy summer of travel, now is the perfect time to sign up for Avis Preferred status to save time in line and be on your way faster.

What is Avis Preferred?

travel up avis

Avis Preferred members can earn and redeem points for qualifying rentals. Preferred members also receive expedited service at some locations so you can go right to your car.

Avis Preferred elite status also entitles you to various benefits.

Avis Preferred elite status

Avis Preferred has two published elite status tiers. Here's an overview of some of the benefits you receive as an Avis Preferred elite member:

You can also earn Avis Preferred Plus status after earning 60,000 American Airlines Loyalty Points or by holding United Premier Silver or Gold status . Primary cardholders of the Chase Sapphire Reserve are also eligible for Avis Preferred Plus status.

Avis President's Club is also available to those who earn 100,000 American Airlines Loyalty Points or United Premier Platinum, 1K or Global Services members. Primary card members of the United Club℠ Infinite Card , United℠ Presidential Plus℠ Card, United Club℠ Business Card and United℠ Presidential Plus℠ Business Card also are eligible for instant President's Club status.

If you don't have Avis status but hold another rental car status, you can submit a status match form here .

How to earn Avis Preferred points

travel up avis

You can earn Avis Preferred points or partner points and miles on qualifying Avis rentals. As a base Avis Preferred member, you earn 1 point per dollar spent on the base rate of your rental and 2 points per dollar spent on accessories like satellite radio and car seats.

You can also opt to earn partner points and miles instead of Avis Preferred points. Avis has over 50 airline partners and nine hotel partners . You can earn points with Avis' other partners , like Eurostar. Just note that for rentals in the United States, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Croix and Canada, you may be subject to a frequent flyer surcharge or excise tax if you earn airline miles or hotel points instead of Avis Preferred points. This generally costs $1.50 per rental day. To change your rewards preferences from Avis Preferred points to the loyalty program of your choice, log into your Avis Preferred account, go to your profile homepage, click "rewards," and then "edit."

travel up avis

You can then opt to receive partner points and miles.

travel up avis

After you enter your partner loyalty number and save your preferences, Avis will automatically start crediting points and miles to your partner account and charging you the frequent flyer surcharge/excise tax on qualifying rentals. As noted, you can't earn partner miles and Avis Preferred points on all rates.

Avis has negotiated rates for the members of many of its partners. For example, the United Airlines MileagePlus AWD (Avis Worldwide Discount) number drops the base price of this airport rental by over 50%.

travel up avis

You can use your partner program's AWD rate regardless of whether or not you're earning miles on your rental. Be prepared to present proof of your partner loyalty program membership if asked.

How to redeem Avis Preferred points

Avis advertises that you can redeem Avis Preferred points with no blackout dates. However, you can't redeem Avis points at all locations.

To redeem points, log into your Avis account, enter your search criteria, select your car and apply your points at check out. You can refer to this page for more information on redeeming Avis points.

Ideally, you should use a card that provides both Avis elite status and primary rental car insurance (on most rentals). The only major credit card that offers top-tier President's Circle status and primary rental car insurance on most Avis rentals is the United Club Infinite Card .

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve .
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card .

  • Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card .

Bottom line

In my experience as a President's Circle member, I haven't received nearly as many Avis upgrades, free days and the same quality of service as National Executive Elite .

However, Avis Preferred status can certainly make your travel more enjoyable by allowing you to bypass lines, track your rentals through the app and earn points toward free days. If you haven't signed up with Avis Preferred yet, we recommend joining for free .

Horrible experience

Horrendous customer service. The confirmation email stated that I had one day to correct any mistakes in my name. Although my first and last names were entered correctly, I sent an email at around 4 p.m. to confirm that there would be no issues, given that I have both a middle name and a second surname. Rather than receiving a straightforward email response, I received a phone call at 7 p.m., which I missed as I was unavailable. I inmediately sent another email requesting communication via email or a scheduled time for the call. Ignoring my request, they called again at 10 p.m. (!) without prior notice. The caller informed me that due to the involvement of two airlines in my itinerary, they were unable to amend my name on the ticket. I was then forced to decide between cancelling my trip and losing approximately £100 or amending the booking for a fee of about £200, and was pressured to make this decision within the next 20 minutes due to the time constraint. As of now, I'm still waiting for the confirmation of my cancellation, even though I responded in seven minutes. This level of service is absolutely unacceptable—shame on you.

Good morning, Ester, We are sorry that you are dissatisfied with the way we handled your concern. We will take your feedback into consideration as we move forward in our work. At TravelUp, we follow standard guidelines and do not engage in any unethical practice within the business. Please note, schedule change handling is a different process than name correction. In the event of schedule change, the airlines shares waiver code to reissue the flight free of cost and not for the name. Therefore, to fix the name, there is a process in place and will incur charges only if airlines permit the name to be corrected. Please get in touch with our admin team at [email protected], they we will be more than happy to assist you. Note- You may experience a long hold or delay as we are experiencing a high volume of calls assisting stranded customer due to the flood in middle east area. We thank you for your cooperation, Regards, TravelUp

I am deeply disappointed and outraged by the unethical practices of TravelUp. TravelUp processed a refund for my four open tickets without my consent, essentially stealing my money. Not only did TravelUp fail to honor my booking preferences, but they also refused to rebook the tickets as requested. Instead, they offered a couple of pounds from the nearly £1000 spent on my return tickets. This level of incompetence and disregard for customer service is unacceptable. TravelUp's actions have not only caused financial loss but also significant inconvenience and frustration. I expected better professionalism and integrity from a reputable travel agency. I urge potential customers to exercise caution when dealing with TravelUp and to consider alternative options to avoid similar experiences of exploitation and deception.

I'll let you know in about a month. I am a devoted IHG rewards points platinum member and we save lots using points & cash deals. A while back we needed a place to spend our last 3 nights in Cancun in early December. The IHG website would give us a standard room at the Intercontinental Presidente for 15,000 points and $125 per night. Now the Presidente has an incredible buffet breakfast that we would have had to add on separately at approximately $50/day for the two of us. So the points & cash deal adding on the sumptuous buffet breakfast would have run me about $525 ($175/day) and relieved me of 45,000 of my precious reward points. Essentially this is the same deal we got there early December a year ago, except the cash portion for the room was only $115/night.

The same day, I stumbled across Travelup (maybe on TA) offering a Bed & Breakfast deal in a deluxe double room at the Intercontinental Presidente for those same three nights for $454.55. It sure seemed like a no-brainer, and I booked it immediately. I still kind of wonder what's the catch, and I intend to call them (in The UK) tomorrow to confirm that we are talking about the same buffet breakfast that the co-pilot and I know and love from our stay there last December. I want to have a nice warm feeling inside before they draft my credit card the week before our trip.

I;m afraid that ultimately, it is the responsibility of the traveller to check their travel arrangements carefully and ensure that they have the correct paperwork in hand for the trip in question.

I was once worried about this too. I booked the Hard Rock Riveria Maya with a great price (too great it seemed) so I was very worried about a scam. I spoke to them on the Phone (they are in England) and they sounded legit so I went for it. Well, no problems. Wife and I had an awesome time at Hard Rock. I have now booked Excellence Punta Cana for December.

I booked with them in a Barbados hotel yesterday. On the hotel's website, there was no vacancy but I liked the hotel so much I went through the TripAdvisor link and booked it through them. I am apprehensive because I feel like I am going to show up and they are going to turn me away. The reservation is for January 18th. I will have a backup plan, if possible. If it doesn't work out, I will probably not look at tripadvisor the same as I think they should have links to only reputable companies. BTW, dddad, my wife and I honeymooned at Excellence Punta Cana and we loved it.

myomayaman, Any new insight?

Total scam. I booked through them, kept calling the hotel and they never had my reservation. Time was ticking and TravelUp kept pushing it off - telling me it was too late there (UK) so they’d send an email in the morning. I’d get an email telling me to email them the name of the person I talked to at the hotel and around and around we’d go. Never was able to confirm my reservation and now I’m just waiting for my refund, but I’m not hopeful.

Just as an FYI for the future - the hotel will not necessarily receive your named booking immediately. It may not even receive your actual name until much closer to your planned arrival date. The bedbank intermediary used by Travelup may just hold a block of rooms of which details of sold rooms are provided to the hotel later. Alternatively the hotel reservation team may not have keyed your booking into their own system at the time you called. Not just Travelup but could be the same process with many other agencies.

they are a total scam. booked 2 rooms. after my card was charged got back a response saying they had to check with hotel. came back saying that those rooms weren't available but that they did have 2 lesser rooms but for an additional $250. I called to ask why lesser rooms should cost more. phone person couldn't answer said I had to reply to email. Said ok I would accept and then got back a "sorry but we're cancelling your reservation."

DID I MENTION THAT THEY CHARGED MY CARD BEFORE THEIR FIRST RESPONSE?

TOTAL SCAM - AVOID

So far, so good. TravelUp came up under a search on TripAdvisor. Best price on an Orlando hotel. Booked with a deposit and received the confirmation that included their confirmation # AND the hotel confirmation # for the res. I actually had to contact the hotel for a special request and they had my res as well as the 3 other families traveling with us. Payment was a breeze and I received the confirmation of payment immediately. I check in in 2 weeks but I don’t anticipate any issues, especially considering the hotel already confirmed the reservations. Just like any site, pricing might be better elsewhere but in this instance, they were better priced than any other site.
