Expressing "to walk" with se promener/promener/marcher/aller à pied in French

In French, there are different ways to express the notion of "walking" , depending on the context.

"To walk" in French

Marcher  is used to describe the action of   walking in general, or the way a person walks :

Amélie  marche  très vite. Amélie walks very fast.

Il marche comme un zombie. He walks like a zombie.

Aller à pied

Aller à pied  (literally going by foot ) is used when walking is contrasted with another means of transport  - walking instead of driving for example - and the destination you're getting to is always mentioned (like with  aller used on its own):

Je voulais prendre le bus, mais finalement j' y   suis allé à pied. I wanted to take the bus, but in the end I walked there.

Martine est allée à pied jusque chez Julien ! Martine walked all the way to Julien's place!

Se promener

Se promener  means  to take a walk / to go for a walk / to wander around . It's literally  "to walk oneself" :

Nous nous promenons dans les bois. We're wandering around in the woods.

Tous les matins, elle se promenait dans le jardin.  Every morning, she would walk around the garden.

You can also use faire une promenade, faire une balade  or  se balader : 

Je  fais une promenade  dans le parc avec Julie. I'm taking a walk in the park with Julie. Je  me balade  dans le parc avec Julie. I'm taking a walk in the park with Julie.

Promener  means  to walk [someone/something] (i.e. a pet...):

Quand j'étais petit, je  promenais   mon canard en bois partout. When I was small, I used to walk my wooden duck everywhere.

Paris : un homme mis en examen pour le viol d'une touriste au pied de la tour Eiffel

Un homme a été mis en examen mercredi dernier pour viol et écroué. Né en 2000 en Algérie, ce dernier est accusé d'avoir violé une touriste mexicaine dans la nuit du 26 au 27 juillet 2023 sur le Champ-de-Mars dans le 7ᵉ arrondissement.

Neuf mois après les faits, les investigations au 3ᵉ district de police judiciaire ont porté leurs fruits. Mercredi, un homme né en avril 2000 en Algérie a été mis en examen pour viol, et placé en détention provisoire, a appris TF1info du parquet de Paris ce vendredi.

Ce dernier est accusé d'avoir violé une touriste mexicaine sur le Champs-de-Mars, au pied de la tour Eiffel, dans le 7ᵉ arrondissement, dans la nuit du 26 au 27 juillet 2023. Une information judiciaire avait été ouverte le 31 juillet 2023 par le parquet de Paris le 31 juillet. "C’est dans ce cadre, et à la suite notamment d’investigations techniques et scientifiques, que les enquêteurs ont procédé à une interpellation, qui a été suivie d’une présentation au juge d’instruction" , détaille le parquet.

Violée par un groupe de cinq hommes?

La jeune femme, âgée de 27 ans et originaire du Mexique, avait dénoncé avoir été violée par un groupe de cinq hommes dans la nuit du 26 au 27 juillet 2023 sur le Champ-de-Mars, vaste jardin public au pied de la tour Eiffel. Elle avait été auditionnée quelques jours après les faits après avoir déposé plainte. Deux hommes, arrêtés peu après les faits, avaient été placés en garde à vue puis relâchés sans poursuite. 

Un autre viol quelques mois plus tard

Cette affaire avait amené la droite parisienne à renouveler sa demande de fermeture nocturne du Champ-de-Mars, estimant cet espace trop difficile à sécuriser et trop criminogène. En vain. Quatre mois après ce viol, un homme, âgé de 35 ans originaire de Châtenay-Malabry (Hauts-de-Seine), avait été mis en examen à Paris jeudi et placé en détention provisoire, soupçonné d'avoir violé, sous la menace d'une arme, une touriste de 23 ans de nationalité britannique cette fois, là encore sur le Champ-de-Mars. La jeune femme se serait cachée derrière un buisson pour uriner quand cet homme se serait jeté sur elle et l'aurait menacée avec un couteau pour la violer, avant de prendre la fuite.

Une baisse de la délinquance cette année selon le préfet

Pendant les Jeux olympiques et paralympiques prévus à l'été 2024, diverses épreuves se dérouleront au Champ-de-Mars. La sécurité devrait y être maximale. Le 13 avril dernier, le préfet de police de Paris Laurent Nuñez s'est félicité d'une baisse "significative" de la délinquance sur ce site et près de la tour Eiffel, où la présence policière a été renforcée en vue des Jeux Olympiques.

Au premier trimestre 2024, sur le secteur Champ-de-Mars, Trocadéro, tour Eiffel, les atteintes aux personnes (viols, agressions, etc.) baissent de 58% comparé au premier trimestre 2023, passant de 50 à 21 faits enregistrés par les services de police, a indiqué le préfet Nuñez. Pour les atteintes aux biens, la baisse est de 18 % sur la même période (passant de 208 faits à 170).

Located inside the ample UN complex next to Nairobi’s Karura Forest, the United Nations Visitors Service conveys information about the history, structure and important work of the UN. We explain the work of the different UN agencies located in the complex such as the UN Environment Programme and the Human Settlements Programme which are headquartered in Nairobi. Everyone interested in learning more about the UN is welcome to join us on a tour. In addition, we offer special educational programmes for schools, universities and other group bookings. The United Nations Civil Society Conference is the premier event on the civil society calendar at the United Nations. The Conference offers civil society organizations an opportunity to put a global perspective on a specific issue and brings together senior UN System officials, prominent international civil society organizations, youth changemakers, academia, public opinion makers, and international media to discuss issues of global concern. This international forum, expected to host some 1500 participants, will provide preliminary discussions and data ahead of the Summit of the Future in September 2024 at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Greater collaboration between civil society organizations, governments and private sector can therefore not be more urgent at this time as we gear up for the Summit of the Future.  I look forward to a fruitful and effective partnership with my Co-Chair Nudhara Yusuf in putting together, and delivering (producing) a successful UNSSC to fully anchor civil society participation in the subsequent processes leading up to and including the Summit of the Future. Indeed, civil society participation will contribute greatly towards meeting the aspiration of “an international system – that is better prepared to manage the challenges we face now and, in the future, for the sake of all humanity and for future generations."

We hope we can capitalize on the multistakeholder and intergenerational convening to build ImPACT Coalitions of Member States, civil society, and UN and other entities, who will help take forth key issue areas and reforms. We hope the Nairobi moment will be a civil society hosted space to move the international community from language to an action oriented networked and inclusive multilateralism.”

LIMA, Perú – El mexicano Rodolfo Cazaubón y el argentino Julián Etulain son parte de un grupo de cuatro jugadores que iniciaron el Diners Club Perú Open con tarjetas de 6-bajo par 66 para compartir el liderato. Los otros co-líderes del cuarto evento del Swing Latino del PGA TOUR America son los estadounidenses Chris Korte y Evan Brown. Los hombres en punta emergieron de la mitad del field que jugó el campo de Los Inkas Golf Club la mañana de este jueves.

A solo un golpe de los punteros los mexicanos Jorge Villar y Luis Gerardo Garza son parte de un grupo de nueve jugadores que hicieron 5-bajo par 67 para terminar el día empatados en el quinto puesto. Entre los otros que hicieron 67, el estadounidense Chris Crawford sobresalió al anotar un hoyo en uno en el par-3 del hoyo 4. Los otros 67s fueron de sus compatriotas Matt Ryan, Reid Davenport, Derek Hitchner, Sam Anderson, Wilson Andress y Travis Trace.

“Hace dos meses no quería saber absolutamente nada de este juego”, dijo Cazaubón, quien se perdió los primeros tres torneos de la temporada del PGA TOUR Americas durante un proceso de reevaluación de su carrera en el golf.

El tiempo en pausa y su venida Lima, en donde en 2015 ganó este torneo dentro de su magnífica campaña como Jugador del Año del PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, le hizo reavivar su deseo por seguir jugando. “La semana pasada estaba demasiado emocionado de que iba a tener la chance de jugar aquí en Lima. Fue un cambio muy drástico y ya estando aquí aprovechar la oportunidad. Hoy la verdad es que disfruté mucho de estar en un campo de golf”.

Saliendo por el tee del 10 a las 7:05 a.m., el jugador originario de Tampico, México hizo su único bogey del día en el 14 para ponerse 1-sobre par. En adelante, todo salió bien. Encadenó cuatro birdies en fila entre el 15 y el 18, y por la vuelta del 1 hizo tres birdies más al 2, 4 y 6.

“Yo creo que hubo de todo. Estoy muy sorprendido por lo bien que jugué los pares-3. Hice tres birdies y aquí los pares-3 son muy complicados. Siento que si hubiese mejorado un poquito en los pares-5, a lo mejor lo ronda habría sido más baja, los jugué en par de campo los pares 5. Pero en general muy contento, le pegué muy bien a la bola de salida y las rodé muy bien”.

Etulain, otro excampeón que ganó el torneo dentro del PGA TOUR Latinoamérica en años consecutivos en 2013 y 2014, siguió su único bogey, en su segundo hoyo del día, con birdies en los hoyos 12, 14, 16, 1, 4, 6 y 8.

“Este es un lugar que me trae muy buenos recuerdos. De hecho, volví a trabajar con el caddie con el que gané”, dijo el jugador de 35 años. “(Los Inkas) son de esas canchas que por ahí se te acomodan un poquito más al ojo y donde te sentís un poquito más cómodo”.

De octavo en el ranking de la Fortinet Cup, con un tercer lugar en solitario en el Bupa Championship que abrió la temporada, Etulain asegura que su buen juego obedece en gran parte al momento que vive en lo personal.

“Los últimos dos años he formado un gran equipo de trabajo en el que todos queremos unirnos para volver al (PGA) TOUR… Creo que estoy muy contento conmigo mismo, muy contento con mi vida. Voy a ser padre nuevamente”, agregó el jugador que espera para el julio el nacimiento de su primer varón, Lorenzo.

En el empate por el quinto lugar, Crawford calificó como “muy aburrido” el primer hoyo en uno de la temporada del PGA TOUR Americas. “Pegué un muy buen tiro con el hierro-5, pero levanté mi tee y no vi nada. Creí que la pelota estaba en green, pero no se veía. Además, ni mis compañeros de grupo ni los caddies dijeron nada. Al llegar al green fui hacia el bunker de atrás y no estaba, pero Gunn (Yang, con quien jugaba) me dijo que estaba en el hoyo, así fue, como nada”, contó sobre el 1 que logró pegando desde 207 yardas.

Pese a una ronda de 2-sobre par 74 que lo dejó algo rezagado, el canadiense Jimmy Jones se quedó con el buen sabor de 2 que hizo en el par-5 de hoyo 16 sobre el final de su ronda. “El 16 es un par-5 largo, así que es difícil llegarle en dos y mucho más ponerla en green con un hierro largo. Tenía 271 yardas y tuve unas palabras de motivación en el fairway de mi caddie y prometida. Me dijo ‘enfoquémonos y peguemos un buen tiro’. Picó bien una primera vez y otra más y terminó en el hoyo”, dijo sobre el segundo tiro que pegó con la madera-3 para el segundo albatros de la temporada. El primero había sido logrado por el costarricense Paul Chaplet en la primera ronda del Totalplay Championship at Atlas Country Club en Guadalajara, México.

En el field de 141 jugadores de 18 países que iniciaron el torneo este jueves hay 31 latinos y los siguientes son aquellos actualmente ubicados entre los top 60 y empates:

Kid Cudi ‘s Coachella set was one of the most anticipated last-minute adds to the second weekend of the the 2024 festival. Sadly, the last couple songs Cudi was supposed to perform went without him.

Cudi was nearing the end of his set on Sunday evening when he injured himself in the middle of singing “Best Memories,” a song he shares with David Guetta. In fan-captured video , Cudi is seen launching himself off stage and landing beside a security guard. He was unable to stand on his own and had to be escorted off the stage.

Earlier that night, Cudi’s show attracted one of the biggest crowds of the weekend at the Sahara tent where he performed two new songs live for the first time during his foreshortened set, “Moon Man Shit” and “Blue Sky.” He also performed his hits “Up Up & Away,” “Tequila Shots,” and more.

The musician last appeared at Coachella in 2019 when he brought Kanye West as a surprise guest to perform tracks off their collaborative “Kids See Ghosts” album. Cudi is set to embark on a 43-date world tour in support of his new album “Insano,” and will kick off the tour’s North American leg on July 28 in Austin, Texas.
