Las Vegas – Get the monorail down to Fremont Street at night and experience old Vegas. Its home to some of Vegas old casinos, wedding chapels, and the famous Vegas Vic and Vegas Vicky neon cowboy and cowgirl signs. Fremont Street has some lively bars where food and drink is cheaper than the strip. It has plenty of street performers and buskers and it is a great place to people watch. A nice alternative to the big shows, clubs and casinos of the strip.
Las Vegas – The Chandelier Bar in the Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas is a multi-story visual spectacle housing three unique bar experiences; The Chandelier provides a bit of playground, art exhibit and cocktail haven all at once.
New York – If Jazz is your thing, then a visit to the Lincoln Center’s glassy venue, Frederick P. Rose Hall, which floats five stories above Columbus Circle is definitely a must! In this complex, you can dine and hear world-class music at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, take in a show with stunning views of Central Park in The Appel Room or sit in one of the best concert halls in town in the Rose Theater.
New York – Restaurant Week is held every year in New York, once in summer and once in winter. During these times you can eat at some of the city’s finest restaurants for a fraction of the usual price.

New York - New York description
A moderately priced and family-friendly hotel on the Strip, New York-New York features the Big Apple’s most iconic symbols plus a roller coaster and plenty of affordable restaurant options.
Good value, family-friendly, a faux-urban version of New York.
The Village Street Eateries with all their neon sign splendor. Sure, it may be a glorified food court, but they put some serious effort into modeling it after a brownstone-clad neighborhood in Greenwich Village.
Also, you're a hop, skip and a jump away from The Park, located between the hotel and Park MGM. The Park's outdoor promenade features restaurants, trees and shade structures and the 40-foot-tall Bliss Dance statue. Catching a concert? The T-Mobile Arena is also a short walk away.
Where do we begin with the parking? While it may seem easily accessible from the freeway, depending on the direction you’re coming from, you may have to go down to the Strip and pass the front of the property before you can even get to the parking garage.
Also, all hotel rooms are non-smoking. If you light up, be prepared to pay a cleaning fee for rooms and a cleaning fee for suites upon checkout. Your best bet is to smoke in designated areas, like the hotel's casino or bars.
That subway rumbling you feel is actually the Big Apple Coaster barreling above the casino. This can pose a problem if you’re an early-to-bed/early-to-rise kind of person, so make sure to ask for a room that isn’t next to the roller coaster or it could be 12:00 to 11 p.m. before you get some peace and quiet. If you’re a real New Yorker, you won’t even notice the screaming.

Top 5 airlines serving from las vegas to new york.
Boarding was great. The flight landed early. It took the crew over an hour and a half to bring out drinks. I paid to upgrade my seat to Comfort+ only to be near a crying/screaming baby who was seldom quiet. Noise-cancelling earbuds didn’t even help. Waste of money to upgrade.
Boarding was a sh!t show. JFK BOARDING was awful. The agent called three sections at a time Clogging the area then yelling at people to not block the walk way. How are you going to call delta one , premium select and comfort plus at once and the yell at highest paying passengers. Need to do a lot better and the flight attendants in the galley need to understand that their voices travel. They were talking about others and everyone in the cabin heard them
The main person that was coordinating everything was a short white/light skin Spanish man and he was very rude. It honestly made me feel like it was everyone’s First day at work. His announcements were very not reasonable and they did not make sense. The stewardess on the flight that made the announcements she didn’t even know what she was talking about she sounded inebriated. There were no snacks or drinks on our flight there wasn’t even much turbulence. This flight was not enjoyable nor was it what a Delta flight should be and just this past week I flew with Delta 3 times.
Everything was very good other than I had selected a specific seat when I booked the flight and they changed it once I checked-in the day before my flight. I was still in first class but lost my aisle seat for a window seat. Being tall, the aisle offers more comfort so I always select an aisle seat.
Horrible. First delta flight was delayed. I ran to my connecting flight and arrived to the gate 13 mins before departure. I told the gate agent “I’m here”, she told me flight was closed while giving my already confirmed seat to an stand by passenger. I said again “madam, I’m here with my confirmed seat” and she said “no you’re not here@ and gave two stand by people a boarding pass and let them board. I asked “madam, why do you do that?”, and she repeated “you’re not here”. That was very rude. I’m disappointed of delta. It used to have a good customer service. Things have changed, but not for good.
full flihgt but crew and passengers all helped eachother we landed early! however we then had to wait 40 minutes on the tarmac to get into the gate there were people trying get connecting flights, assume its an airport issue but still frustrating
My flight was very clean and the location was comfortable. The service was great. A satisfying flight!
The crew was horrible. Cleo was the most unwelcoming flight attendant I’ve ever had.
Do not get fooled by the term “Delta One” flat bed! The seats were super narrow. The ottoman for the feet was so narrow that when you recline the seat in flat bed position, you can only fit one foot in the 8” width space. There was only 1 flight attendant for First Class. The breakfast took 2 hours to get served. Instead of offering French Toast, the served bread pudding. The champagne with orange juice or Mimosa tasted terrible. Almost all the movies offered were ridiculously old. For a long flight from San Francisco to NY, it was frustrating! I DO NOT RECOMMEND this flight!!!
Really big guy next to me Attendants moved him to an open row
great flight. Pilot was communicative, flight attendants were excellent. Really nice experience except my tv didn’t work.
Overall, the flight was better than the flight I took to go to Florida, which had a bunch of problems. The crew is really nice and the plane was new so it had a small problem when we were on the runway, but the flight itself was great. They even made some time back up, which is always a good thing.
Everything was good except for deplaning in NY. Took way too long!!
Jet Blue keeps getting iit wrong. 4 hour mechanical delay followed by terrible boarding experience. This is my third horrific jet blue flight in 2024. I am going to try to avoid this loser in the sky
no wifi and the aircraft was very old with tiny 4” screens.
After we landed, we were held on the plane for 30 minutes. There was no one at the gate once we landed and we forced to sit on a plan that had already over an hour delayed.
Flawless trip. Pilot came out and introduced himself, welcomed everyone, made a light joke to put everyone at ease. Arrived quite early.
JetBlue's check-in was great, but there was an in-flight flight attendant who was very rude and unkind. I didn't realize that the bathrooms were already locked 30 mins prior to landing and needed to use the restroom. Instead of politely asking me to return, she rudely told me, 'No, bathrooms are locked! Go back to your seat!' The flight was more than an hour delay, which made me almost miss my connecting flight. I understand the reasoning, but the action they took to get a hold of maintenance was time consuming. It took them so long to get a hold of maintenance and for maintenance to get started. Most importantly, my 3 checked baggages are missing! I'm writing this review 3 days after my arrival to the Philippines, and my 3 checked baggages, where my wedding dress is, are all missing!
Safe takeoff and landing Better snacks and coffee. Headphones for the TV monitors.
I didn't like the 2 hour delay and then mechanical issue once we were on board.
We waited to takeoff for about 1 hour delay for a 20 min flight.
Packed in like sardines, very uncomfortable. Sitting the aisle my shoulder was rammed into numerous times by rushing flight attendants. Also flight was very cold.
Your app is impossible to use. I couldn't load it. Then i couldn't open it. When i finally got both those things done -with much help -then i couldn't open the app to install a credit card. The upshot was 4 flights without access to food or drink. When i first tried to download united app some company called starlier opened instead and i would up signing up for some 49 dollar a month music service which i still have not been able to cancel.
Overall it was good. The flight was bumpy at times, but the pilot made us aware every time. As a result, no snacks/drinks were made available. Seats were tight but that’s okay as I had a window seat.
the head jack on my seat didn't work and the power outlet didn't work for my seat
That flight was smooth, and staff we courteous. it was a full flight so very tight. The boarding through security was not properly controlled. it was rushed and the scanning process for our bags, etc. was pilling up at the other end with no time to empty our belonging my personal items almost toppled over on the floor if i hadn't caught it rapidly. Was it just that time, or always like this - cant say. other than that all else was fine.
Wheelchair assistance was not complete. The person left me at the departure gate without informing the groundstaff of my requirements. I had to walk to the departure counter to ask for help to reach the plane door. The crew informed me that in future they were not allowed to help passengers like me, senior citizen and Wheelchair passenger with placing their carry on bags in the overhead compartments!
I liked that we arrived earlier, you could improve your snacks give away
We learned certain countries (a few) require a notarized letter from an ex to give permission for children to travel to those countries with the other spouse together with birth certificates. To find this out one hour before flying—not good. Nowhere is it documented by the airlines though they require it. Make sure about all documentation required.
The best part was we weren’t too delayed. Seating space in economy is insulting and about as uncomfortable as one could expect before mutiny breaks out. Prep for landing happened well over 45 minutes before wheels down: no final garbage pickup and it interrupted those of us who needed tray tables down for dinner, etc.
Horrible people at the gate, they force me to check in my carry on, even thought no one behind me has to do it. I had to get out of the airport in NY to get my bag and go thru security again on my way to Honk Kong. The worst part is the employee threatened me with loosing the flights if don’t comply.
Cut off carry ons, had to check, got on and there was plenty of bin space. Disappointing.
The male steward shoved me hard when i sleeping on the isle, woke me up the only way incan descripe it was Violently. I wanted to cause a scene but was able to putnmy anger innch check, i want complain to AA
One of the worst flights I have ever taken Delayed over an hour without communication from the crew; very scary Entertainment not working Crew NASTY cabin cold
May never fly American again Delay in take off WITHOUT EXPLANATION Cabin freezing Crew NASTY entertainment did not work entire flight
They need to organize a better system for boarding and esp unboarding. Idiots rows back cutting everyone waiting to get off first. No. Wait your turn
The flight was so short that the lack of leg room didn't bother me for long. The plane was smaller so only two seats per row and there were chargers. However, they didn't serve any snacks.
Horrible trip. I won't fly AA again Boarding was a nightmare because they squeezed people into the waiting like sardines. My connection was 30 minutes and the run to the gate was horrible. Then the flight was canceled AFTER boarding. The Flight attendants did not know what to do and gave out the wrong instructions. They finally sent us to a different gate. Again, the waiting was like a sardine tin. The flight was okay and my baggage arrived fine.
Boarding process was very similar to frontier or spirit. Gate agent measuring bags and denying boarding/checking bags.
On a 4.5 hour flight to Las Vegas there was no food/lunch provided only cookies and a drink. This airline is starting to look and act like Sprit/Frontier. Will start to look into other airlines to fly more comfortably
There was a .79 discrepancy between the cost of the flight and what was paid. Spirit didn't let me obtain my boarding pass until the .79 (seventy nine cents) was paid. Contacting their customer service to resolve the issue was a nightmare that involved many wait minutes and two different departments. The price Kayak gave to Affirm, whom I used to pay for the tickets, and the price Spirit charged for the flight were off by the .79. I almost lost the ticket because of the hassle.
They sure know how to make you feel like you're packed into a sardine can. Most uncomfortable seat you imagine.
I flew from Las Vegas to Reno Nevada. Airfare was 60 $ round trip. I needed to bring my skis and boots.that was going to be $111 to bring them. Upon arrival they informed me that anyone who has skis more than 62 inches long is charged an oversize fee of $150 each way. Almost everyone over 5 foot five has skis over 62 inches long. So I paid $60 for the flight and $411 to bring my skis with me! WTF
The agent at the check in desk was absolutely rude. The rest of the team after that was good, but the check in process at LAS was miserable. The woman at the desk spoke like we were stupid and was rude throughout the process.
Great value airline. It doesn’t always work out flawlessly but this flight from Vegas to Reno was perfect.
Delayed several times. Flight was to arrive at midnight and it arrive at 3 am. A 3 hour delay is already bad but one that has you arriving in the wee hour is just disruptive and overall unacceptable. The complete lack of restitution is a joke in keeping with Spirit’s reputation of ranking bottom-low in the pecking order.
Flight was canceled and rebooked for the next day. Had to cancel the entire vacation.
Don’t fly with Spirit unless you wanna be treated like trash. Racist employee too
Small water and small chips 10 dollars is insane. Pluse almost 200 for a carry on and luggage also crazy. Otherwise was on time that's good
It was miserable! A week after we booked a non stop round trip ticket Atl-LasVegas, we were told that our non stop return flight from Las Vegas to Atl had been changed to a one stop flight through Fort Lauderdale, without any reason or explanation. When we got to the Las Vegas airport to catch our now 1:16pm flight to Fort Lauderdale, the flight was delayed until 5:30pm, which made our connexion at Fort Lauderdale impossible to catch. When we got to Fort Lauderdale, we ran to the gate where our flight to Atl was, hoping to catch it, even though we only had 7 minutes before take off time. To our dismay, we get there and see a large amount of people complaining in front of the gate because the flight had been delayed due to lack of personnel! We then had to wait another couple of hours to finally take off from Fort Lauderdale. We got to Atl at 5:30 in the morning instead of 11:30. In the meantime, my luggage was also lost, so I had to wait until the next day to get my suitcase back. My husband also lost a day at work because of the delay. We will NEVER fly Spirit again!!

A thrilling roller coaster and terrible food: My stay at the New York New York in Las Vegas
- You get a kitschy taste of New York City in the middle of Las Vegas.
- A recent renovation gives rooms a new feel.
- The new partnership with Marriott leaves elite-level Bonvoy members wanting more.
As someone who visits Sin City at least 12 times per year, I know how important where you stay is — and how a hotel can make or break your trip. Las Vegas has many hotels to offer guests , from hyper-themed resorts that mimic famous cities worldwide like The Venetian to ultra-luxury resorts like the shiny new Fontainebleau ; there truly is something for everyone.
On my most recent trip to Las Vegas, I wanted to stay at an MGM property to test the benefits of the now-live partnership with Marriott.
If you're considering a stay at the New York New York Hotel and Casino, here's what you need to know before booking.
What is the New York New York Hotel and Casino
The New York, New York hotel opened its doors in 1997 and has been a staple of the Las Vegas strip ever since, leaving travelers wondering if they're in the desert or the middle of Times Square. The resort is just about a seven-minute drive from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) and tucked on the south side of the Strip.
This hotel is home to a whopping 2,085 guest rooms and suites, as well as 24 restaurants, with 10 being full service; the rest are either food court joints or quick service.
It's also synonymous with the Big Apple Coaster that runs through the hotel as well as outside around the faux New York City skyline. The roller coaster is inside the Big Apple Arcade, which is a hit for tourists of all ages, making it one of the more family-friendly properties on the Strip .
It's Las Vegas, so naturally this hotel has a large casino with all the standard table games and slot machines; many of them are New York-themed.
The location
This hotel sits toward the end of the south side of the Strip. It's connected by land bridges to the world-famous MGM Grand, making it easy to catch a show there or go to the Hakkasan nightclub.
A land bridge also connects it to the Excalibur Hotel & Casino. The south side of the strip is home to most of the MGM properties, so if you want to casino hop and earn Tier Rewards, this hotel is in a great location.
How to book the New York New York Hotel
There are multiple ways to book a stay at New York New York. With the new partnership between MGM and Marriott, you can book and earn Loyalty Points via either Marriott Bonvoy or MGM Rewards. Guests can also redeem MGM points or Marriott Bonvoy points for free nights.
Rates can start as low as $55 a night up to $450, depending on the time you travel and what events might be going on in the city. The nightly rate was $348 when I stayed, likely due to a NASCAR event happening over the weekend. Weekend rates, on average, tend to be higher than weeknights.
Looking further into the year, this hotel could be booked for as low as 9,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.
New York New York also charges a nightly resort of $42 plus tax. This fee is only waived if you have MGM Gold status or higher or are a Marriott Ambassador elite .
MGM and Marriott partnership
MGM and Marriott recently started a new partnership and have been advertising it online; however, there was barely any mention of it inside the New York City-themed resort.
I chose to book through Marriott Bonvoy since I hold Titanium status; based on my experience, you shouldn't expect much as a Marriott Bonvoy elite member. At check-in, one sign mentioned that Bonvoy Titanium and Ambassador elite members could use the MGM gold check-in area.
When I checked in, I was offered the choice of a welcome gift of 1,000 Bonvoy points or a daily $15 food and beverage credit. I opted for the latter. The agent who checked me in also offered me a late checkout of noon — a far cry from the usual 4 p.m. checkout I am used to at Marriott properties.
Every room has been renovated
Last summer, rooms and suites underwent a full-scale $63 million renovation. The renovations optimized the room's current dimensions, incorporating moveable work surfaces, installing readily accessible USB/USB-C power outlets and adding extra closet space and shelving.
In my SoHo double queen room, the beds were comfortable and quite plush. A small bedside table between the two beds held a phone, power outlets and USB/USB-C ports.
The rooms featured many elements inspired by New York City, including faux exposed brick, yellow cab-colored accents, and New York City-centric artwork; some parts felt a little contrived and on the kitschy side.
Each room has a 55-inch television with streaming capabilities, a small wardrobe closet, a small table and chair, and a safe; I would have liked the TV and seating area to be bigger, though.
I was also disappointed — but not surprised — that there was no minifridge. This meant that if I wanted cold drinks, I would have to go downstairs and buy them. There was also no coffee maker in the room. I would have had to go downstairs to Starbucks to get my morning caffeine fix. Believe me, those lines can be 20-plus people long in the morning.
The bathroom was small but made great use of the space, featuring a shower and tub combo with great water pressure.
The amenities in the bathroom were sparse and left more to be desired. However, my favorite part of the bathroom was the mirror and great lighting, making it the perfect place to take a selfie before going out.
The room had a decent view of the Big Apple roller coaster, but I was not a fan of the small, narrow windows. I would have preferred one large window to give a better view of the roller coaster and the Las Vegas strip.
New York City inspiration is everywhere
Since this hotel is themed after New York City, you can expect to find resemblances of the city throughout the property and not just in your room.
There are walkways filled with street signs, subway station signs and faux buildings designed to make you feel like you're really in the Big Apple. Outside, you'll notice that the building itself is actually made up of replicas of famous New York City buildings and landmarks, so you might even find yourself sleeping in the Empire State Building or the Chrysler Building.
Beyond gaming, eating and pretending to be a New Yorker, this MGM resort has plenty to offer guests.
Sadly, during my stay, the pool was closed for yearly renovations and painting in preparation for the upcoming spring pool party season, so I could not access it.
Las Vegas is known for hosting pool parties during the day with world-famous DJs at clubs like Wet Republic, Tao Beach Club and Encore Beach Club. Even in the colder months or during bad weather, you can head over to Marquee at the nearby Cosmopolitan for its Dome Pool party — the only covered pool party in Vegas.
New York New York does not have a spa, but there is a well-equipped gym that I found pleasantly surprising. I was expecting a small room with a few pieces of equipment, but it was enough for me to get a full workout in.
The gym featured a small free weight section, many cardio machines and a small variety of strength training machines. There were cold towels available for guests and a water bottle refill station.
Authentic New York-style food and bars galore
Being a foodie, I was excited to try the various cuisines the restaurants offered to see how they compared to the real New York's vibrant dining scene.
My toughest decision during the trip was deciding which restaurants to eat at, and it's safe to say no one will go hungry here. There were options for every budget, from simple, fast casual food court eateries to full-service sit-down restaurants.
I stopped at Broadway Burger Bar and had a Broadway Signature burger and fries ($17), which was a below-standard burger with bacon, lettuce and tomato. While filling, it lacked flavor or character. At that price, I should've just gone to Shake Shack, a staple New York City restaurant; at least the burgers there are consistently good, and I know what to expect.
The next night on the trip, I stopped at II Fornaio, as I was in the mood for Italian. Once again, the food was underwhelming. I went with the calamari ($18) as a starter. It was undercooked, and the sauce was not very good.
Then, I went with the Fradiavola pizza (24). The pizza lacked any real flavor and was undercooked, as well. For the price, I can't recommend this at all. Save your money and opt for the pizza-by-the-slice restaurant in the food court upstairs or the Sbarro across the street.
I didn't get a chance to eat at Gallagher's Steakhouse, but the staff highly recommended it; although, with the previous meals I had on the property, I was hesitant about that. The steaks start at $65, but I decided against it as I wanted to stretch my dollars — and potentially save myself from (expensive) disappointment.
There was also a full room service, but once again, I opted out of trying that to save money.
Outside the hotel is The Park , an outdoor dining area full of food carts and chain restaurants like Shake Shack, Tom's Watch Bar and Luke's Lobster.
New York New York's bar scene offers seemingly endless options. From the Las Vegas outpost of Coyote Ugly to a dueling piano bar and a buzzy Irish pub, there is something for every palette.
At Hersey Chocolate World's Chocolate Bar, I tried the $16 chocolate raspberry espresso martini, which was outstanding. The bar also had plenty of sweet treats and nonalcoholic drink options. I had to walk by this bar to get to my room every time, and it was always packed to the brim with people.
Attractions for all ages
The New York New York hotel has attractions for all ages, like a world-famous Cirque de Soleil show, as well as the Hershey Chocolate World, synonymous with Times Square. You can also find a large arcade with games for young folks and the young at heart.
The most notable attraction is the Big Apple roller coaster. The red-colored track stands out in the Las Vegas strip skyline; it goes outside, around the building and ends back inside over the casino floor. I got a chance to ride the roller coaster, and it was a rough and painful, yet thrilling, experience. I recommend riding it at least once if you're a thrill seeker. Tickets for one ride start at $25, and you can get a discount for another ride if you didn't get enough adrenaline pumping.
Checking out
As a regular in Las Vegas, I have stayed at many hotels up and down the Vegas Strip. If the nightly rate at New York New York exceeds $180 or more than 20,000 Bonvoy points, I recommend checking out other options like its next-door neighbor, the Park MGM . This is one of the strip's better budget-friendly options with recently renovated rooms. I would also opt for food elsewhere, but if you are in a pinch, there are some serviceable options.
I would have liked to see more signage detailing the partnership between MGM and Marriott, and I hope the benefits will improve in the future. But if the nightly rate is good, I will stay here again because of the location alone.

Local Strolls: 10K steps on the Vegas strip
Apr 16, 2024 • 6 min read
Follow our walking route to experience the best of Las Vegas' iconic Strip © Ivanova Ksenia / Shutterstock
Delve into Local Strolls, a series where writers reveal their favorite walks in their hometowns. Each route offers a snapshot of urban life, guiding you to lesser-known attractions and cherished local spots. Here, Jesse Scott outlines the best route for exploring Las Vegas's iconic Strip on foot.
While there is so much more to appreciate about Las Vegas beyond its glitzy, mega-casino lined Strip, let’s be real here: the Strip is Las Vegas’ main attraction and is a total must for newbies and veterans alike. It is constantly evolving – be it imploding classic casinos to build a major league baseball stadium (RIP, the Tropicana in 2024 to make way for the Athletics’ pending baseball stadium) or new restaurants/shops celebrating grand openings in the quietest nooks of resorts.
Often jammed with traffic and construction 24/7, you certainly don’t want to drive it ... unless you’re passing through town for a strictly scenic drive or want to crawl 5mph to your dinner reservation. The Strip was made for strolling and there is an extensive roadside network of super-wide sidewalks, crosswalks, pedestrian bridges and outdoor escalators for doing just that.
The beauty of a Strip stroll is you can stop for a reprieve at any moment, coming in the form of hitting a blackjack table right inside the Flamingo ’s Strip-side entrance or snagging a yard-long frozen cocktail at one of several Fat Tuesdays (and taking it with you – it’s legal). As for what to bring with you, Las Vegas is smack-dab in the middle of a desert. Don’t make the common mistake of having dehydration sneak up on you or sunburn – bring water and sunscreen if you’re walking during the day.
We've narrowed down the thousands upon thousands of dining, drinking, entertainment and logistical routes to choose from along the Strip to bring you the best itinerary for your Vegas stroll.
Where to start: Mandalay Bay
The core of the Strip runs from the golden-windowed Mandalay Bay on the southern end, north to Sydney Tower-resemblant the STRAT – it’s approximately 4.3 miles one way. Things do get a bit more spread out north of the Wynn . So, if you’re looking to shave off some stroll mileage, it’s 2.9 miles one way – or about an hour – without any stops from Mandalay Bay to the Wynn. Start your trip north by visiting Mandalay's Shark Reef Aquarium , which has more than 2000 critters to gawk at within its clear glass tunnel confines.
The walk: From Mandalay Bay, there is an indoor path connecting the resort with the neighboring pyramid-themed Luxor and medieval castle-esque Excalibur . Once you’ve reached Excalibur, cross a pedestrian bridge over Tropicana Ave and you’ve arrived at New York-New York .
Ride the Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York
This is Vegas, so why not get an in-ride roller coaster view of what’s ahead? The Big Apple Coaster weaves through an NYC-resemblant skyline with unique vistas of the iconic green mass, the MGM Grand across the street. The way it contrasts with the gray and oft-snow capped mountains in the distance is always beautiful.
The walk: Beyond New York-New York, hug the west side of the Strip, passing by T-Mobile Arena (the home of the Vegas Golden Knights), the Shops at Crystals super-luxe shopping corridor and Aria until you arrive at the Cosmopolitan .
Stop for photo ops and pizza at the Cosmopolitan
One of the quirkier photos you’ll take on the Strip is inside a giant black high-heel at the Cosmopolitan, just off the Strip entrance on the casino floor. Equally as dazzling and Instagram-worthy is its Chandelier Lounge . If hunger is beckoning, head up to level three and see if you can find the totally unlabeled Secret Pizza for a New York-style slice.
The walk: Continue north and pause between the towering fountains outside the Bellagio and, across the street, the Eiffel Tower replica attached to Paris Las Vegas . At Flamingo Rd, take the escalators and crosswalks to end up on the eastern side of the Strip until you arrive at Flamingo – it’s across the street from the sprawling Caesars Palace and adjacent Forum Shops .
Watch flamingos frolic and take in a little Vegas history
Las Vegas – especially the Strip – loves to tear things down and build anew. Amid all the contemporary glitz, the pink-windowed Flamingo is the oldest on the Strip, dating back to 1946. Beyond its chorus of slot machines, head to the free Flamingo Wildlife Habitat on-property where Chilean flamingos saunter about and giant koi fish swim in various ponds.
The walk: Outside of the Flamingo’s northern entrance is the pedestrian-only LINQ Promenade . At its eastern end is the High Roller – the largest observation wheel in the US – and, before then, O’Shea’s , which is renowned for its ultra-creamy Frozen Baileys concoction. Once you're refreshed, continue north, pass by the Mardi Gras-themed Harrah’s and arrive at the Venetian Resort .
Coast on a gondola through the Venetian
Off the Grand Canal Shoppes inside the Venetian, you can book a gondola ride that will weave you through sky-painted ceilings, under low bridges and past Roman-inspired architecture aplenty. There is an outdoor gondola experience, too, with vistas of the pirate-themed Treasure Island across the street. Indoor or outdoor, prepare to be serenaded by a singing gondolier.
The walk: Inside, stroll through the Venetian and its neighboring Palazzo until you reach a pedestrian overpass to the Wynn. For a quick detour, the biggest LED screen on Earth and entertainment venue, the Sphere , is right there to stare at.
Watch the Lake of Dreams fountain show at the Wynn
Whereas tickets to most shows on the Strip start in the upper-two or lower three-figures, there is a free one at the Wynn that often goes under the radar. Lake of Dreams is a multifaceted water attraction set on three acres, involving a 90ft waterfall, pine trees and a 5000-plus LED light spectacle. It’s best viewed from Bar Parasol , which has an outdoor patio and extensive cocktail menu.
The walk: If you’ve opted to end your walk at the Wynn, well, it’s time to either wander back south on the Strip, stroll to your hotel or snag a taxi/Uber/Lyft. If you still have some energy left in the tank, the “North Strip” is home to two of Las Vegas’ newest casino-resorts, Resorts World Las Vegas and Fontainebleau Las Vegas .
Bonus stop: dine like a baller at Fontainebleau Las Vegas
Fontainebleau Las Vegas, the tallest building in the entire state of Nevada , officially opened its doors in late 2023. It was a celebrity-filled spectacle with a Justin Timberlake private performance and appearances by the likes of Cher, Tom Brady, Sylvester Stallone and Kim Kardashian. The buzz at the Miami-inspired spot continues on the culinary front with buzzy, club-esque restaurants from Groot Hospitality , like Komodo and Papi Steak. For the ultimate Vegas splurge, roll with a Beef Case at Papi Steak – a 55-ounce Wagyu tomahawk steak that’s presented in a golden briefcase.

Follow along as the solar eclipse journeys across the United States — with the moon momentarily blocking the sun for over 180 million people living in its path, including some lucky upstate New Yorkers, who will take in the celestial extravaganza Monday afternoon.
The highly anticipated eclipse will travel from Mexico’s Pacific Coast up to the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, hitting 15 US states along the way.
While over 180 million people will be in the eclipse’s path, including some 32 million Americans living in the path of totality, clouds may prevent parts of the southern and central US from witnessing the natural phenomenon.
The eclipse will last for several hours surrounding almost four minutes of darkness in the zone of totality — a narrow band of about 100 miles that stretches from Mexico to Maine and beyond.
Everything to know about the 2024 solar eclipse
- The solar eclipse will take place Monday, April 8, blocking the sun for over 180 million people in its path.
- The eclipse will expand from Mexico’s Pacific Coast across North America , hitting 15 US states and pulling itself all the way to the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
- New Yorkers will experience the solar eclipse just after 2 p.m. Monday.
- A huge explosion on the sun , known as a coronal mass ejection, is anticipated, according to experts. This happens when massive particles from the sun are hurled out into space, explains Ryan French of the National Solar Observatory in Boulder, Colorado.
- To avoid serious injury to the eyes , it is necessary to view the event through proper eyewear like eclipse glasses , or a handheld solar viewer, during the partial eclipse phase before and after totality.
- The next total solar eclipse will take place on Aug. 12, 2026, and totality will be visible to those in Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia and a small slice of Portugal.
Those looking to take in the eclipse are urged to view the event through proper, NASA-approved eyewear like eclipse glasses , or a handheld solar viewer, to avoid eye damage.
The eclipse will enter the US in Texas and travel through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan will also experience the total solar eclipse, NASA said.
The eclipse will exit continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada, just after 3:30 p.m. EST.
It will be the last time a total solar eclipse passes over a large part of the U.S. until 2044.
Another total solar eclipse won’t be visible from New York again until 2079, when the zone of totality will include the five boroughs.

India calls on Iran to release 17 Indian crew members on board seized container ship
From CNN's Sandi Sidhu in Hong Kong
India has called on Iran to release 17 Indian crew members on board a container ship seized by Iran on Saturday.
Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that he spoke to his Iranian counterpart Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and "took up the release of 17 Indian crew members of MSC Aries."
Four Filipino seamen were also on board the ship, according to the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers.
The department said it was working with its government, the ship owner, and the operator to release the captured seafarers.
On Saturday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized an Israeli-linked container ship in a helicopter operation near the Strait of Hormuz, state news agency IRNA reported.
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) said there were 25 crew members on board.
Japanese prime minister condemns Iran's attack on Israel
From CNN's Junko Ogura in Tokyo
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Sunday said he "strongly condemns" Iran's missile and drone attack on Israel.
"(The attack) further aggravates the current situation in the Middle East. We are deeply concerned and strongly condemn such an escalation," Kishida told reporters.
Kishida said Japan would continue diplomatic efforts to "prevent the situation from worsening and to calm the situation down," and "respond in cooperation with other countries."
Blinken calls British and German counterparts following Iran's attack on Israel
From CNN's Philip Wang
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with his counterparts from the United Kingdom and Germany on Sunday following Iran's attack on Israel, according to readouts from the State Department.
All parties agreed "the importance of condemning Iran's attack in the strongest possible terms and preventing further escalation," the readout said.
Blinken earlier held phone calls with his counterparts from Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia , in which he emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation in the Middle East and of "a coordinated diplomatic response."
US forces destroyed more than 80 attack drones from Iran and Yemen, Central Command says
From CNN's Philip Wang
US forces intercepted more than 80 one-way attack drones and at least six ballistic missiles from Iran and Yemen during its attack on Israel, according to a statement from the Central Command.
The operation included destroying a ballistic missile on its launcher vehicle and seven drones on the ground in Iranian-backed Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, CENTCOM said.
"Iran's continued unprecedented, malign, and reckless behavior endangers regional stability and the safety of U.S. and coalition forces," the statement added.
Israeli and Iranian ambassadors trade accusations during UN Security Council session
From Abel Alvarado in Atlanta
Israel and Iran’s United Nations ambassadors condemned each other’s actions during Sunday’s UN Security Council emergency session called to address Iran’s attack on Israel.
Israel’s UN ambassador Gilad Erdan said Iran "must be stopped before it drives the world to a point of no return, to a regional war that can escalate to a world war." Erdan accused Iran of seeking world domination and that its attack proved that Tehran "cares nothing, nothing for Islam or Muslims" before pulling out a tablet to show a video of Israel intercepting Iranian drones above Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Erdan called on the UN Security Council to designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terror organization.
“Action must be taken now, not for Israel's sake, not for the region's sake, but for the world's sake. Stop Iran today."
Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said his country’s operation was "entirely in the exercise of Iran’s inherent right to self-defense, as outlined in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations and recognized by international law."
Iravani said:
"This concluded action was necessary and proportionate," adding that the operation was “precise and only targeted military objectives” to reduce the potential of escalation and to prevent civilian harm. “Iran is never seeking to contribute to the spillover of the conflict in the region, nor does it to escalate or spread the tension to the entire region," he said.
Tehran’s attack had been anticipated since a suspected Israeli strike on an Iranian diplomatic complex in Syria earlier this month.
Iravani added Iran has “no intention of engaging in conflict with the US in the region” but warned Iran will use its “inherent right to respond proportionately” should the US initiate a military operation against “Iran, its citizens or its security.”
Israeli war cabinet says it's ready to respond to Iran's attack but delays immediate action. Here's the latest
From CNN staff
The hours-long Israeli war cabinet meeting ended Sunday night without a decision on how Israel will respond to Iran’s missile and drone attack , an Israeli official said.
The cabinet is determined to respond — but has yet to decide on the timing and scope and the official said the military has been tasked with coming up with additional options for a response.
Separately, a senior Biden administration official told reporters that an Israeli official told the United States that it's not looking to significantly escalate the showdown with Iran.
CNN analyst Barak Ravid said Israeli ministers Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot advocated for swift action, but US President Joe Biden's phone call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu led to a decision to delay the response until the next day.
Here are the latest headlines:
- Retaliation is over, Iran told US: Iran privately messaged the United States that its retaliation against Israel had concluded, echoing what Tehran said publicly, according to a senior administration official. Late Saturday, Iran said its attack on Israel is a response to Israel's strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, and "the matter can be deemed concluded." However, President Ebrahim Raisi said any “new aggression against the interests of the Iranian nation will be met with a heavier and regrettable response,” according to Iran’s state news channel IRIB.
- United Nations response: UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for a de-escalation of violence after Iran’s attack. Guterres said the United Nations and member countries have a “shared responsibility” to engage “all parties concerned to prevent further escalation.” He also called for a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza conflict. “Neither the region nor the world can afford more war,” he said.
- G7 and others: Amid a flurry of diplomatic activity in response to Iran's attack, the G7 nations said they would work together to "stabilize the situation" in the Middle East, according to a statement from Biden. Also, Jordan summoned Iran's ambassador in Amman on Sunday after it intercepted Iranian drones over the country.
- Meanwhile in Gaza: As thousands of Palestinians were turned away from returning to their homes in northern Gaza on Sunday, a 5-year-old girl was shot in the head by Israeli soldiers, her mother said. Video showed a man carrying a 5-year-old girl named Sally Abu Laila, who was bleeding from her head, with people crowding around her in panic trying to cover her wound.
Also on Sunday:
- Israel decided to lift its restrictions on large gatherings and to reopen schools on Monday.
- The US Department of Homeland Security has not identified any “specific or credible threats” to the US since Iran attacked Israel.
Blinken calls Turkish, Egyptian, Jordanian and Saudi counterparts following Iran's attack
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday spoke with his counterparts in Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia following Iran's attacks in Israel, according to readouts from the State Department.
During his phone calls, Blinken emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation in the region and the importance of "a coordinated diplomatic response."
In his conversation with Jordan and Egypt, Blinken also underlined the significance of achieving an "enduring end to the crisis in Gaza."
Iran will be held responsible if any action is taken against the US or Israel, deputy ambassador warns
From CNN’s Abel Alvarado
The United States warned Iran against taking any action against the US or Israel during the UN Security Council emergency session over Iran’s attack on Israel.
“Let me be clear, if Iran or its proxies take actions against the US or further action against Israel, Iran will be held responsible,” US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood said Sunday.
The United States is “not seeking escalation, our actions have been purely defensive in nature,” adding that the “best way to prevent such escalation is an unambiguous condemnation of the council of Iran’s unprecedented large-scale attack,” he said.
The envoy reiterated US support for Israel and condemned Iran’s attack. “Iran’s intent was to cause significant damage and death in Israel,” Wood said.
Wood also said the UN Security Council had an “obligation to not let Iran’s actions go unanswered.”
“For far too long, Iran has flagrantly violated its international legal obligations,” he said before listing occasions Iran has violated UN Security Council resolutions and international law.
Wood accused Iran of being in a “broad sense complicit” of the October 7 attack on Israel by providing “significant funding and training for the military wing of Hamas.”
He added the US will explore "additional measures to hold Iran accountable here in the UN.”

Attending a hotel’s afternoon tea party can be a classy way to experience a luxury hotel — even if you're not staying there.
Some hotel tea parties are so extraordinary that they're practically worth planning a trip around. We’re spilling the tea on eight of the most exquisite afternoon tea experiences in New York City, London and beyond — plus how to save on your bookings.

Like a scene straight out of the movie “Eloise at the Plaza,” sip on afternoon tea under the soaring stained-glass dome of The Palm Court in New York City’s iconic Plaza Hotel. The historic hotel has been serving afternoon tea for more than 115 years in an elegant affair that requires formal attire.
Kids are welcome, and there’s even a specific version of the menu with an Eloise theme available to children under 13.

Tea is a classy affair at Claridge’s, a British landmark that began operations in 1856. Tea is served in The Foyer & Reading Room alongside a classic combination of finger sandwiches, scones and pastries. It’s all served on fine bone china and silverware, made specifically for Claridge’s.

On weekends, the H Tasting Lounge at The Westin Bayshore, Vancouver transforms into the Hundred Acre Wood. And though Westin is Marriott’s wellness-focused brand , this particular hotel equates wellness with whimsy thanks to its Winnie the Pooh-inspired afternoon tea.
You might channel your inner bear and drizzle honey in your cup, and much of the food is honey-infused, too. That includes a snack tray dubbed “Pooh’s Pot of Gold” featuring cotton candy with honey crystals. Savory dishes include honey-smoked salmon and salad with honey-poached chicken. One of the desserts is a meringue whipped to resemble a beehive, served with — what else? — honey mousse.
The Oberoi Udaivilas sits on the banks of Lake Pichola, in Udaipur, India, a destination that ranks as one of American Express Travel's 2024 Trending Destinations . Afternoon tea at the opulent hotel is reminiscent of an English tea experience while embracing local cuisine, including shufta (a sweet dish of dry fruit, sugar and saffron) and Anjeer badam ladoo (fig and almond sweet dumplings).
The tea party at Baccarat Hotel offers another option for afternoon tea in NYC. And some of the packages — which are named for historical, royal personalities — are ultra-luxurious.
The “Princess of Monaco - Grace Kelly” package goes for $125. Meanwhile, bigger spenders might splurge on the “King Louis XV Caviar Tea,” which costs as much as $450, depending on the type of caviar you choose.
The cheapest package is designed for kids and inspired by “The Little Prince.” For $85, the tea service includes chicken and waffles, apple cider doughnuts and a mini-lobster roll.
The Marriott-owned Ballantyne touts its classic Southern hospitality, but its tea service embraces Western Europe. You sip tea from London-based Rare Tea Co. and nosh on French macarons.
Plus, the Ballantyne occasionally hosts themed tea service, like the “Bridgerton” afternoon tea party inspired by the Netflix hit series. There, English Regency attire is encouraged.

In a city known for alcoholic beverages, Las Vegas offers a fair amount of tea. That’s particularly relevant as more young people cut back on alcohol. Just 62% of Americans ages 18 to 34 say they drink, according to a Gallup Consumptions Habits survey of 1,015 adults conducted in July 2023. That’s down from 72% two decades ago.
For tea on the Las Vegas Strip, visit Petrossian Bar at Bellagio Hotel & Casino, which features a live pianist tickling the ivories on a grand piano.

For a whimsical experience, head to the Sanderson hotel in London. Inspired by “Alice in Wonderland,” the menu includes a sandwich filled with smoked carrots and seaweed creme mousse called “The Cheshire Cat.” There’s also a White Rabbit-inspired carrot cake on the menu.
Unlike many of the other hoity-toity tea parties on this list, afternoon tea here is a more casual affair, with no fancy dress required.
While delightful, splurging on a fancy hotel tea party is typically not cheap. Here are some ways to save:
Pay with a hotel credit card: Many hotel-branded credit cards grant bonus points on hotel spending (which often includes spending at their restaurants, too).
These co-branded credit cards (usually associated with big hotels or airlines) are popular. In fact, almost 74 million U.S. consumers accrue rewards by using co-branded credit cards, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s 2023 Consumer Credit Card Market Report.
Some co-branded credit cards also offer statement credits on qualifying travel purchases. Sometimes — though not always — purchases at hotel restaurants can trigger those credits.

Flex your hotel elite status: Some hotel loyalty programs offer freebies to elite status members, which can help cover the cost of tea. For example, Hilton Honors members with Hilton Honors™ Gold Status or higher receive a daily food and beverage credit at certain hotels. The credit’s value varies by property but can run as high as $25 per guest (up to two guests) per day. Marriott Bonvoy members with Platinum Elite status or higher are eligible for a similar credit, but it’s only at certain hotels, and it’s just $10 per stay. Neither credit will cover a tea service completely, but it can make it cheaper.

As a regular in Las Vegas, I have stayed at many hotels up and down the Vegas Strip. If the nightly rate at New York New York exceeds $180 or more than 20,000 Bonvoy points, I recommend checking out other options like its next-door neighbor, the Park MGM. This is one of the strip's better budget-friendly options with recently renovated rooms.
