Trek X Caliber 9 2018

Is this a good bike for its price?. Will it be good for xc racing and long rides?

Others to compare are a Canyon Grand Canyon from their site, Cube and others on Bike24 or other German sites. All bikes at this price point can race or go on long rides.

Will the pro caliber 6 be a good race bike

The fork is a little cheap for that price point. Lots of people like the procaliber for long rides and racing though. It's a shame they don't offer a nicer X-Cal since they dropped the superfly. If I was spending 1500-1900 on a bicycle I would want a fox fork, reba, or similar. The fork on that bicycle will just be a little heavier and won't have the tune ability of forks on similar bicycles. If you have the money I would look at the procaliber 8, it actually will be a big improvement for a couple hundred dollars. Possibly ask the bike shop if they have any sales coming up. You could also ask how much it would cost to upgrade the X-cal to a reba at the time of purchase.

I'm a little bit short on money. But what's the actual difference between the recon rl gold and reba rl they're both 100mm solo air and with 32mm upper tubes

Weight and traditionally tune ability but they may be the same since they seem to share dampers now. Mostly it's an expensive and crucial part of the bicycle so you try to get the best. If you ever want to upgrade your bicycle its costs a fortune to upgrade where as stuff like handle bars and seat posts are typically much cheaper. Trek used to offer the superfly in a model with a reba for like $1800. Have you accounted for things such as shoes and pedals in your budget as well? Decent shoes and shimano spds will typically set you back about $150. Add some decent shorts with good padding as well, it makes a huge difference and will keep you riding longer. The two bicycles are pretty much identical except for the link. Most of the people that get the pro caliber have back pain from riding and it helps with that. If you don't think you will have any back issues I would lean towards the Xcal. It is likely the faster of the two bicycles.

Shoes and stuff I already have but what makes you think that xcaliber is faster

The compression damper in the Reba and the Recon is a poor quality minimally affective plastic part. The rebound damper hopefully is the Rapid Rebound version. The Recon lacks that it appears. If so you can swap in the SID RCT3 compression damper with a metal shim stack to make the fork perform ok. You gain some small bump compliance for comfort and the fork won't be overwhelmed by bumps at higher speeds. It's a 15 minute dropin with no oil change. About $120. Looks like you'd need to change the rebound damper on the Recon.

Do you have any more details on this upgrade? I have a 2017 Superfly 6 and am interested in upgrading the compression damper with the SID RCT3.

What about the procaliber 6 is it a good bike

They have nearly the same parts, just different frames. Is your local shop out of superflys? Trek produced them for 2017. Do your local bike shops carry any other brands? Have you thought about buying used?

He doesn't have any superflys. My local shop have Bmc Trek Focus Bianchi. I dont want to buy a used bike. I want a good fork, 2 or 1 x11 drivetrain, and preferibly 29er tires

Check out the Bianchi Grizzly 29.1. That looks like a nice modern XC hardtail for $1900. It has boost spacing so you can run bigger tires, good geometry, and a nice fox fork.

So between bianchi grizzly 29.1 and pro caliber 6 which is better?

I would go with the grizzly if I wanted to race XC and had a young strong back. Lots of people complain of back pain from long days on a hardtail and the procaliber is supposed to help alot with that. The Grizzly would be like an X-cal 9. Make sure it's the 2018 version and has the same spec as the one listed on their website.

Since the grizzly has a better fork what about crankset

Grizzly 29.1 | Bianchi USA . The treks may have a slightly nicer groupset but I would put more priority on the fork than groupset. The bike will handle and ride over bumps just like a 8k bike it will just weigh 5 pounds more.

What about hubs

Most bikes come with cheap hubs and rims unless you spend a ton on a bicycle. The trek wheelsets may be a little nicer. You normally need to spend about $600 on a mountain bike wheelset to get a good wheelset. Wheels are normally the 3rd most important thing on the bike because they rotate and weigh a lot. Frame geometry and fork performance are your top two priorities.

My local bike shop told me that the grizzly is €240 more than pro caliber that's way over my budget

It's the same exact price in the u.s. How about the BMC team elite 3.0? You best bet may be to get the Xcal and upgrage the cartridge as previously mentioned.

It's more worth it buying a pro caliber than bmc. what do you mean by upgrading cartridge

Ask your local bike shop how much it would cost to upgrade the recon internals to the sid internals. What size bike do you need? Sometimes you can find closeouts such as this one that cost less than your bike shop would have purchased it for and have your bike shop build it. https://www.adrenalinebikes.com/store.cfm?do=DetailProduct&productid=191140 That is a crazy nice bike for $1500.

I'm 5' 11" and only 16 years. So does the sid damper fit in the recon. ( I imagine only changing the damper of a fork)

Ask your local bike shop if you are able to and how much it would cost. If they don't know how than it doesn't help you out any. That large focus would be the most bike you can get for your money. Most bike shops will build a bike for less than $200. If you upgraded the xcalibers fork you would have a pretty sweet bike too.

Check out this website. They have a lot of good bicycles that your lbs could build up for you. That scale 940 is at a great price. https://www.bike24.com/1.php?conten..._form-filter=&pgc[6337]=6339&pgc[14599]=14600 .

I want to buy from my local shop

Was the BMC more expensive than the pro caliber 6?

A bike with lower gearing will be easier to ride up steep hills, while a higher top end means it will pedal faster down hills.
