The governing body is completely independent and specialises in financial services. For 2019, Asda Travel Insurance won the Consumer Moneyfacts Awards for ‘Travel Insurance Provider of the Year’, so it must be doing something right.

Defaqto independently reviews travel policies in the UK based on quality and policy features. Here are the ratings it gives Asda Travel Insurance for 2019:

Asda Travel Insurance has two standard policies to build upon:

• Single Trip : there is no upper age limit on this policy. Plus you can roam free for up to 365 days, so grab the biggest backpack or suitcase you can find!
• Annual Multi-trip : this is available for anyone up to the age of 76. Asda has three levels of cover offering varying lengths of stays:
• Value - up to 35 days per trip. Asda will also throw in winter sports cover for up to 18 days.
• Premium - up to 45 days per trip. You will get up to 18 days winter sports cover included with Premium too.
• Superior - up to 90 days per trip. Enjoy up to 24 days free winter sports cover with this option!

*Pet care: For each full 24 hour period you are delayed, Asda will cover extra kennel or cattery fees if the start of your original return journey is delayed because of circumstances that you can’t control. Most other providers do not seem to offer this.

Asda’s Value policy is slightly cheaper than the average. It didn’t score very highly with the professionals, but then basic policies are there to offer the minimum. The Premium policy is much cheaper than other insurers, plus it is packed full of features. The Superior policy costs slightly more than the Premium but is still below the industry average.
