BLIND GUARDIAN Announces Spring 2024 North American Tour

German power metallers BLIND GUARDIAN have announced "The God Machine" North American 2024 tour. The 22-date trek will commence on April 18 at The Fillmore in Silver Springs, Maryland and will make its way to Dallas, Seattle, and Toronto before the final performance at Milwaukee Metalfest on May 17. Joining the band as support is NIGHT DEMON .

BLIND GUARDIAN vocalist Hansi Kürsch states: "We heard your calls! We are more than just thrilled to finally announce that highly anticipated North American run of shows. Let me tell you that the band will be on fire and that we are very grateful to have a fantastic opening band such as NIGHT DEMON on our side to bring the full metal blast to your town. I recommend not to miss this chance, we will perform Beyond Imagination. You don't want to see it, you have to see it! 'The God Machine' is in sole and full magic mode."

General admission tickets for the tour go on sale this Friday, December 1 at 10 a.m. local time.

BLIND GUARDIAN 's latest album, "The God Machine" , was released in September 2022 via Nuclear Blast . The cover artwork for the CD was designed by Peter Mohrbacher .

Prior to "The God Machine" 's arrival, BLIND GUARDIAN 's latest release was the all-orchestral album "Twilight Orchestra: Legacy Of The Dark Lands" , which came out in November 2019 via Nuclear Blast . To create the concept, lead guitarist André Olbrich and Kürsch worked alongside German bestselling author Markus Heitz , whose novel "Die Dunklen Lande" was released in March 2019. The book is set in 1629 and contains the prequel to "Legacy Of The Dark Lands" .

BLIND GUARDIAN 's previous "regular" studio album, "Beyond The Red Mirror" , was issued in 2015. It was the band's first LP since 2010's "At The Edge Of Time" , marking the longest gap between two studio albums in BLIND GUARDIAN 's career. It was also the group's first album without bassist Oliver Holzwarth since 1995's "Imaginations From The Other Side" .

BLIND GUARDIAN 's core trio consists of Kürsch , lead guitarist André Olbrich and rhythm guitarist Marcus Siepen . Drummer Frederik Ehmke has been with the group since 2005.

Drummer Thomen Stauch played on BLIND GUARDIAN 's first seven albums before being replaced by Ehmke . Frederik made his recording debut with BLIND GUARDIAN on 2006's "A Twist In The Myth" .

BLIND GUARDIAN Announces “The God Machine” North American 2024 Tour

After last year’s triumphant return to the stage in the form of their “Somewhere Far Beyond Tour” across Germany, the breathtaking story of Blind Guardian ‘s latest masterpiece “The God Machine” goes on. The metal legends are proud to announce “The God Machine” North American 2024 tour.

The 22-date trek will commence on April 18th at The Fillmore in Silver Springs and will make its way to Dallas, Seattle, and Toronto before the final performance at Milwaukee Metal Fest on May 17th. Joining the band as support is Night Demon .

Blind Guardian is thrilled to be able to finally present some of their new songs to their fans, showcasing the likes of astounding tracks ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ , ‘Violent Shadows’ and introducing them to the ’Secrets of the American Gods’ .

Blind Guardian Announce 2024 North American Tour

The God Machine trek kicks off next April

Next spring, Blind Guardian are returning to North America. The God Machine Tour kicks off on April 18 at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland and wraps up on May 16 at the Agora Theater in Cleveland, OH. Additionally, the band is slated to perform at Milwaukee Metal Fest on May 17. Check out the full tour itinerary below.

Night Demon will be serving as very special guests for the entire trek. Local venue pre-sales begin this Thursday, November 30 at 10am EST. General tickets go on sale this Friday, December 1 at 10am.

Blind Guardian released their twelfth studio album The God Machine last September through Nuclear Blast. The record peaked at No. 2 on the German Albums chart and No. 4 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart. It marked the band’s first studio effort in seven years.

Blind Guardian have announced their return to North America for a 2024 tour supporting their latest album, The God Machine . The trek will kick off on April 18th at The Fillmore in Silver Springs and conclude at Milwaukee Metal Fest on May 17th. Support will come from Night Demon. Blind Guardian Announce Spring 2024 North American Tour

The German power-metal vets' first stateside run since 2016

Blind Guardian have announced a Spring 2024 North American tour — their first on the continent since 2016.

The outing kicks off April 18th in Silver Spring, Maryland, and culminates with an appearance on May 17th at Milwaukee Metal Fest . Night Demon will be direct support for all headlining dates.

A Live Nation ticket pre-sale starts Thursday (November 30th) at 10 a.m. ET using the code BACKSTAGE . General ticket sales will follow on Friday (December 1st) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster . Fans can also look for deals or get tickets to sold-out dates via StubHub , where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

Blind Guardian have announced a Spring 2024 North American tour — their first on the continent since 2016.

The outing kicks off April 18th in Silver Spring, Maryland, and culminates with an appearance on May 17th at Milwaukee Metal Fest . Night Demon will be direct support for all headlining dates.

A Live Nation ticket pre-sale starts Thursday (November 30th) at 10 a.m. ET using the code BACKSTAGE . General ticket sales will follow on Friday (December 1st) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster . Fans can also look for deals or get tickets to sold-out dates via StubHub , where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

“We heard your calls!” declared vocalist Hansi Kürsch via the band’s press release. “We are more than just thrilled to finally announce that highly anticipated North American run of shows. Let me tell you that the band will be on fire and that we are very grateful to have a fantastic opening band such as Night Demon on our side to bring the full Metal blast to your town. I recommend not to miss this chance, we will perform Beyond Imagination. You don’t want to see it, you have to see it!”

The German power-metal veterans will be out in support of their latest album, 2022’s The God Machine .

Blind Guardian (formed in 1984) is a pioneering and highly influential power metal and speed metal band hailing from Krefeld, West Germany.

Formed in 1984 by Hansi Kürsch on vocals and bass, Markus Dörk on guitar, André Olbrich on guitar and Thomen Stauch on drums, the band was originally called Lucifer’s Heritage. With the release of two demos, one in 1985 and another 1986, the band developed an underground following despite the chaotic line-up changes, with Dörk and Stauch replaced by Christof Theißen and Hans-Peter Frey, respectively.

Lucifer’s Heritage signed with No Remorse Records in 1988, changed their name to Blind Guardian to avoid comparisons with Satanism, and released their debut full-length album “Battalions of Fear” in 1988. No Remorse Records subsequently released their two follow-up albums “Follow the Blind” in 1989 that was defined by its thrash metal tendencies and “Tales from the Twilight World" in 1990, which was a highly climatic and melodic release.

After signing with Virgin Records in 1991, Blind Guardian released the LP “Somewhere Far Beyond” in 1992 and their first live album “Tokyo Tales” a year later in 1993. Their fifth full-length “Imaginations from the Other Side” released in 1995 saw the band work with former Metallica producer Flemming Rasmussen.

Then came Blind Guardian’s breakthrough into the U.S. with the J. R. R. Tolkien inspired concept album entitled “Nightfall in Middle-Earth” that drew on their epic and hugely anthemic feeling of their 1990 release “Tales of the Twilight World”. After the album Century Media began to release portions of Blind Guardian’s past discography into the U.S. which helped garner support for the group.

“A Night at the Opera”, named after the queen album, was released in 2002 followed by the live album “Imaginations Through the Looking Glass” in 2003 which marked the last album for the returned drummer Thomen Stauch. Stauch’s replacement Frederik Ehmke made his debut on the album “A Twist in the Myth” released in 2006, and contributed to the subsequent “At the Edge of Time” released June 25, 2010. Following the release Blind Guardian embarked on a headline tour named The Sacred Worlds and Songs Divine Tour 2010 and released the compilation album of previously unreleased material entitled “A Traveler’s Guide to Space and Time”.

You know a band is perfect for a live setting when the entire crowd sings along to the taped intro as is the case at every single Blind Guardian show.

Blind Guardian plays a unique blend of power metal that mixes the blistering speed of their early thrash metal days with a heavy folk, operatic and theatric influence from their later years. The result is high energy music with huge anthem choruses that are sung by layers and layers of vocals in the studio.

Live as you might imagine, these choruses are sang by the thousands and thousands that are in the audience. For fans of sing-a-longs, there is no better band than Blind Guardian, and there’s nothing greater than when they get into their legendary ballad “The Bard’s Song.” The song is so popular that at times, lead singer Hansi Kursch, decides to let the crowd sing on their own and not only during the choruses.

The song is so simple, when performed live it’s simply Hansi, an acoustic guitar and the crowd providing the percussion with their clapping along. In my experiences, Hansi often opts to let the crowd sing most of the verse chiming in for only a few lines here or there. It’s truly a magical experience like no other.

They opened up with The Ninth Wave and played two of their most famous songs (Nightfall and Fly) along with one other song before playing the entirety of Imaginations from the Other Side. For their encore, they did Majesty, Valhalla, Bard's Song, The Curse of Feanor, Mirror, Mirror, and closed with a Beach Boys cover. Great show. The vocals were rather hard to discern as times, though their music sounds way more aggressive live then it does on the album.

The merch was also fairly priced. The cheapest shirt was $20, which also happened to be the coolest-looking one that everyone else at the concert bought. Grave Digger's merch was slightly more expensive.

OMG! That was the BEST Blind Guardian concert, I've ever been to!!! Epic how we interrupted their line up with 'Guardian, Guardian, Guardian' and tales will be sung how we continued to sing the Valhalla chorus for 10 minutes... I even heard Hansi say after a while "Jetzt weiss ich auch nicht mehr, was wir machen sollen" - which losely translates to "jeez, no idea what to do from here". Absolutely epic and I was so surprised how well people knew the lyrics... after all - a German band in San Francisco!!

Great Band and a Great Concert.

Real fans singing together and making the whole atmosphere very intense.

The acoustics of the place or the sound adjustments could have been improved as for several times, for a short period, it was difficult to hear the voices clearly.

It is a shame that the place was not packed, but at the end of the day it was good for those who attended it.

Lots of interaction of the band with the audience enhancing the feeling of an almost private concert.

I would go again.

This is the third time I see them live. They played for almost two hours, pouring some really great tunes over the audience (we were quite nice too :) ), and not only the new stuff, but also some amazing classics. When they played "Welcome to Dying" I thought the whole place would come crashing down.

Hansi's voice seemed a little off at times, though. I think it was because of the acoustics on stage, but who knows. I hope they come back soon, maybe with new songs?

The best show I have ever been. The musicians play perfectly and Hansi as usual just reached the perfection with his voice.

They looked so happy to be on stage, you can see the smile of every band member when they perform. And when the public sing their songs, you can see stars in their eyes !

Great public, generous band (more than 2 hours of show !), what more to ask ? If you have the opportunity, go see Blind Guardian !

Excellent as always, but Grave Digger stole the show. When they brought the piper on stage the crowd went wild! It's not everyday that 2 renowned German power metal bands tour together and have one but two separate dates in North Carolina. So glad to see the venue was packed. Was within 5 feet of the stage and had an excellent view of the show. Crowd energy during both bands was amazing. Can't wait for them to return! A++

Awesome concert! 18 songs with 2 encores, they played for almost 2h and a half, with only three songs from the new album. We sang along many songs with long final choruses, like Valhalla, The Lord of the Rings, and Last Candle. Freaking epic!

Great band, great concert!!!!! It's my 3rd time seeing them and it's always amazing. The only thing is that they have so many good songs that you always leave wishing they would had played more!! Inspite of the almost 2.5 hours playing =)

Voice...destroyed. Ears...destroyed. Worth it. I had been waiting to see this band for over 10 years, and they did not disappoint. Two encores...all my favorites played.....one killer show. Can't wait for them to come back to Atlanta.

After last year’s triumphant return to the stage in the form of their ‘ Somewhere Far Beyond Tour ‘  across Germany, the breathtaking story of  BLIND GUARDIAN ‘s latest masterpiece  The God Machine  goes on. The metal legends are proud to announce ’ The God Machine ’ North American 2024 tour.  The 22-date trek will commence on April 18th at The Fillmore in Silver Springs and will make its way to Dallas, Seattle, and Toronto before the final performance at Milwaukee Metal Fest on May 17th. Joining the band as support is NIGHT DEMON. Blind Guardian  is thrilled to be able to finally present some of their new songs to their fans, showcasing the likes of astounding tracks ‘ Deliver Us From Evil ‘, ‘ Violent Shadows ‘and introducing them to the ’ Secrets of the American Gods ‘. The God Machine  marks another pinnacle in  Blind Guardian ’s impressive discography by not attempting to pretend that it is still the nineties, yet successfully relying on the muscle memory of this period. It is a gripping, addictive, and brilliantly arranged album in the tradition of records with which  Blind Guardian  reached for the stars in the 90s; yet, by no means is it a throwback.  The God Machine  represents the heart and soul of  Blind Guardian ’s timeless metal in the here and now, unifying the bards’ past, present, and future secrets in one consistent, well-thought-out masterpiece.

In 1992,  Blind Guardian  released  Somewhere Far Beyond , a legendary milestone of modern speed metal. Three decades later, their latest offering,  The God Machine , demonstrates how to awaken the fury of youth to a magical new life. As if they had paid a long overdue visit to the numerous highlights of their career,  Blind Guardian  appears to be in touch with the ghosts of their past more than ever.

‘Musical soulmates’: the extraordinary story of The Piano sensation Lucy and her doting teacher

Lucy Illingworth wowed audiences on the TV talent show, but her journey started as a toddler with dedicated tutor Daniel Bath. Now, a documentary shows how they did it – and the shocking moment a royal disaster almost stopped them

L ucy Illingworth is the breakout star of the ivory-tinkling TV talent show The Piano . When the teenager, who is blind and neurodivergent, sat down at Leeds railway station, then 13, her rendition of Chopin’s Nocturne in B-flat minor brought rush-hour crowds to a standstill and reduced bystanders to tears. Clips of the performance have clocked up millions of views online and it has been nominated for Bafta’s Memorable Moment of 2024 .

In the season one finale at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Lucy was crowned the unofficial winner of the Channel 4 show. She was duly invited to play at the king’s coronation concert last May. But as a new documentary reveals, the biggest gig of Lucy’s life was almost derailed when her lifelong piano teacher fell foul of royal security.

The Incredibly Talented Lucy – that is how she was introduced by the host, Hugh Bonneville, at the Windsor Castle event – tells her extraordinary story. Airing after the latest episode of The Piano this Sunday, the profoundly moving film traces Lucy’s decade-long friendship with her teacher, Daniel Bath, who describes them as “musical soulmates”.

In the film, when the royal occasion arrives, Bath admits he is “opposed to the idea of monarchy” and would ordinarily decline such an invitation, but his dedication to his pupil overrides such concerns. Today, he says: “It’s not something I’d normally do, but my duty is to Lucy. My views don’t matter. It’s all about Lucy. Where she goes, I go.”

Except, at the king’s concert, a wedge was driven between the pair. In a scene caught on camera, Bath is denied access because he “doesn’t meet the minimum security requirement”. His reaction is bafflement (“What? Why? Really?”) before he guesses that it’s probably due to his ties to Extinction Rebellion . A security guard is sent to collect his backstage pass because he is “high risk”. He laughs in disbelief: “They think I’m a threat.”

“It’s a good twist, isn’t it?” he says. “We applied for security clearance a few weeks beforehand, but just as we were about to set off from our hotel for the dress rehearsal, the BBC rang me and said: ‘I’m afraid the royal household say you’re not allowed in.’ To this day, I’ve not been given any reason why. I presume it was due to my involvement with climate change activism. That’s the only thing that could have been flagged up, but they’ve not confirmed it.” Has he ever been arrested for protesting? “No, I’ve just been on demos. I always have.

“I found the whole thing ironic for two reasons. First, the whole concert was themed around the need for climate action. Second, my activism is for the exact same reason I teach Lucy. As far as I’m concerned, nothing is more important than children and the future of our planet. That’s my entire motivation. It’s strange that I should be penalised for it.”

Bath usually accompanies Lucy on stage. He guides her to the piano, helps her find the pedals and remains on hand in case of wobbles. “Luckily, she had her wonderful teaching assistant, Lisa. I work hard, but I have it easy compared with Lisa. I get Lucy to do what she loves, which is play piano. All the other day-to-day schooling stuff is hard graft, so it’s lovely that Lisa got that moment instead.”

He was highly apologetic, fearing he had let Lucy down. “Even if I’m not there, she’ll call: ‘Daniel, Daniel!’ We have a very close, symbiotic relationship and she picks up on how I’m feeling. That’s why it was great she had Lisa and her mum, Candice, with her. I was confident she’d be OK. She’s not the one who gets nervous; I am. Besides, she wasn’t playing a massively complicated piece. If she’d been doing a Rachmaninoff concerto, I’d have been slightly more concerned.”

Happily, Lucy nailed a note-perfect performance of Bach’s Prelude in C major in front of 18 million viewers, prompting Queen Camilla to have what The Piano’s judge Mika called “a total fangirl moment”. Bath could only watch from his hotel room across town.

“It was strange watching it on TV. I had to sit through Take That, for a start. Obviously, I would’ve loved to be beside her, but, for once, I got to see Lucy from the audience’s viewpoint. I’m always sitting next to her, shaking with fear that something will go wrong and whispering the odd thing when I sense she might go off-piste. Lisa did all that, while I got to enjoy people’s responses. It was a nice reminder of: ‘Oh, yeah, she’s really good!’ And I loved the ending. Lucy always hams up endings, because she loves that communication and reaction.”

Bath is too kind to admit that he is angry about what happened. “It was just annoying. I’d spent two days in Windsor and they wouldn’t even let me in!” What riles him more is educational inequality. “Right now, 90% of UK children can’t access instrumental tuition. That makes me quite cross. The entire point of comprehensive schools is that every child has equal opportunities, but, when it comes to music, families can pay to receive better provision. It’s unfair and un-British.”

In the documentary, Bath says the experience “hasn’t exactly made me warm to the monarchy”. He laughs when reminded of his phrasing. “Well, I was brought up to be polite. Being antagonistic doesn’t help anybody. You’ve got to bring people along with you. That’s my approach to education. We’re all in this together. Society is everyone.”

Bath met Lucy when she was three. He has been working closely with her ever since. Lucy was born with cancerous tumours in her eyes, while a chromosome 16 duplication means she is developmentally delayed; she has autistic traits and is largely non-verbal.

Nursery teachers at her special school in Halifax noticed how musical she was. Even as a toddler, Lucy could play nursery rhymes faultlessly on a toy keyboard and hit a glockenspiel with immaculate rhythm. They contacted the Amber Trust , a charity that provides musical opportunities for blind and partially sighted children, where it was discovered that Lucy had perfect pitch. The charity advised finding a piano tutor.

Enter Bath. “I’ve worked a lot with children with additional needs, teaching in unconventional ways,” he says. “Straight away, I realised Lucy had an incredible understanding of music, but she didn’t have any technique. Her hands were tiny. I’ve spent the past decade training her in proper finger patterns and introducing her to repertoire.”

He devised a method whereby he played the piano while Lucy put her hands on top of his, following his hands along the keys, feeling which fingers were doing what. “When she was a baby, Candice would put on Classic FM to help her relax. Lucy just absorbed it all. Wagner, Beethoven, Bach – she remembers everything she hears, even just once, then tries to play it.

“Sometimes, it’s a white-knuckle ride: ‘Oh, you already know this Mozart piece? Al right, let’s go.’ It’s by no means a normal piano-teaching experience, but it’s very exciting. She’s the most gifted musician I’ve ever met.”

Bath says Lucy’s virtuoso ability “makes you rethink how the brain works – and how the heart works”. He is palpably proud that the world is being wowed by her gifts. For him, though, his star pupil represents something wider.

“As well as spending lots of time with Lucy, I run a charity called Music for the Many , which was inspired by her. We work to overcome the barriers that stop children accessing music education and raise funds for free instrumental tuition.

“Lucy’s performance going viral shows that, if you give a child the chance, that’s what you can get – something so magical that it touches people all over the world. She’s a great example of why all children should be given the same opportunities. There are thousands of Lucys out there in our communities. Music can help them flourish. Hopefully, the documentary will spread that message.”

How is Lucy? “I just finished a lesson with her, actually,” says Bath. “Lucy’s on brilliant form. She learns at a fast pace, so her music has moved on a lot since the documentary was filmed. We’ve been in the recording studio, putting together an album of Lucy’s greatest hits, as it were. It’s early stages. You’ve got to take it step by step, walk with her in her way.”

Bath admits that meeting that talented toddler has changed his life. “Lucy’s the best thing that ever happened to me. She inspires so much of my work. When everyone hears her play, it makes them question their assumptions about what’s possible.

“People with disabilities and learning difficulties are still under-represented and underserved. It’s made me even more determined to fight for music opportunities for all children. If the education system says we can’t afford it, that’s nonsense. For a lot of children, music is vital. Lucy is the living embodiment of that.”
