Blink 182 at Manchester’s AO Arena — tickets, support acts, stage times and more

Tom's back, a new album is just around the corner and all the bangers are coming out. Long live Blink!

Danny Jones

The undisputed kings of pop-punk, blink-182, are back and they’re playing not one but two massive dates at Manchester’s AO Arena.

And when we say back , we mean properly this time: Tom DeLonge returning on guitar and vocals and everything. This is going to be so mint.

The American outfit — which was recently restored to its original lineup of DeLonge, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker — announced their new record, One More Time… back in September, which is the band’s ninth studio album all-told and the first in 12 years since the trio last recorded together.

We think we speak for everyone when we say it’s going to be a big night at the Arena . Or two. With that in mind, here’s everything you need to know about blink-182 ‘s Manchester double-header this Sunday and Monday.

blink 182 manchester support acts

Are their tickets left for either of Blink 182’s nights at the AO Arena?

If you’re looking to grab a last-ditch ticket to see the Blink boys do their thing, you’re in luck: there are still plenty of tickets available for both nights on this occasion, however, this fortunate situation does come with a catch…

We’re not going to lie to you, these aren’t the cheapest gig tickets you’ll ever buy. In fact, it was a bit of a story when they were first released as some people were paying over the odds to secure theirs. The cheapest seats you’ll find start from £64.95, whereas standing tickets on the main floor and the inevitable pit will set you back upwards of £166. Crikey.

If money’s not an issue then happy days; should that be the case, you can even spring for one of the extremely premium ‘Beautiful North’ packages — these things are more expensive than the usual Electric Lounge VIP boxes and will set you back a whopping £380.75. Nope, not joking.

See what you’re willing to pay for HERE .

Support acts

On the other hand, we would argue the one thing these ticket prices do have to their name is overall value for money when you look at the calibre of blink-182’s support acts on this tour.

Pop-punk and rock royalty demands only the best of warm-up acts and, in this case, the place will be literally scorching long before the main event gets underway.

Manc fans will get also to see contemporary favourites of the genre, The Story So Far, who recently released their first new music in half a decade.

These are two bands most people would happily pay a significant sum to see on their own, let alone together in a huge arena setting where they’re sure to be on top form.

Blink 182’s Manchester stage times

Doors open at 6pm and The Story So Far will kick things off around 7:30pm. While we’re still not too sure how long their set is going to be, blink-182 are scheduled to take the stage at 8:45pm.

As for the California rockers themselves, they typically play 90-minute sets judging from what we’ve been hearing from other shows on this European tour so far, and AO will have an 11pm curfew as it does with most gigs.

Oh, and if you hear any word of an after-party somewhere in town, you best let us know!

What’s the setlist going to be?

When it comes to what the seasoned pros will be playing for their long-awaited reunion, there will of course be a sprinkling of the tracks from the new album but they know as well as we do that everyone wants to hear the hits.

Fortunately, Setlist.fm has come in handy as usual and according to their most recent shows, the lads will be playing a staggering 27 tracks in total including an encore, so you’re really getting the full spectrum no matter what night you pick.

Here’s the running order as far as we know:

  • Anthem Part Two
  • The Rock Show
  • Family Reunion
  • Man Overboard
  • Feeling This
  • Violence (where Travis plays blindfolded)
  • Up All Night
  • Reckless Abandon
  • More Than You Know
  • Dance With Me
  • Aliens Exist
  • Happy Holidays, You Bastard (played twice, the second time at double-speed)
  • Stay Together for the Kids
  • Bored to Death
  • Adam’s Song
  • Ghost on the Dance Floor
  • What’s My Age Again?
  • All the Small Things
  • Dammit (they have brought out a special guest at this point in the past)
  • One More Time (the title track off the new record)

Local rap sensation Meekz is back, if you hadn’t noticed – he burst back onto the scene last week with a surprise gig with JD in Piccadilly Gardens.

The masked Manchester rapper is celebrating the release of his latest single Mini Me’s – and a handful of Mini Meekz posters appeared around town, pasted there by artist collective Pattern Up (then swiftly removed) last week.

Meekz continues to impress with his latest release, a track that’s quickly gaining popularity.

True to form, Meekz delivers not only sonically but visually, teaming up once again with KC Locke to create a stunning music video.

Their collaboration underscores the significance of music videos, reaffirming their lasting impact in the industry.

The video pays homage to their previous work, particularly ‘Like Me’, while also pushing boundaries with a post-apocalyptic CGI rendition of Manchester, reminiscent of scenes from GTA and Marvel movies.

This innovative approach demonstrates the remarkable synergy between Meekz and KC Locke, marking a new pinnacle in their collaborative efforts.

Following the premiere, Meekz treated fans to a memorable performance in Piccadilly Gardens, organised with JD, where he made a grand entrance by gifting miniature Air Max 95’s to his fans before taking the stage atop a large storage container.

I had the opportunity to speak with Meekz after the premiere, where he shared insights into his upcoming tape, ‘Tru’, slated for release on 24 May.

Additionally, he hinted at exclusive news related to GTA/GTA 6, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his future endeavours.

It’s clear that Meekz continues to innovate and redefine the game with each new project, and we’re excited to see what he has in store next.

KC Locke said: “In the time that the mainstream media is writing articles about the decline of the music video industry, swords and eagles are here to make a stand and show not only are music videos here to stay but they are more important than ever.

“This is a testament to community, bound by a shared vision, we rise and rise again, together, for the culture.”

Live Review: Blink-182, AO Arena, Manchester [16th October 2023]

Home » Live Review: Blink-182, AO Arena, Manchester [16th October 2023]

It’s 2023 and Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker are blasting through a near 2 hour set of Blink-182 hits – what’s my age again? Ending the European leg of their reunion tour with a two night stint in Manchester, the trio give it everything they’ve got in the nostalgia filled set.

blink 182 tour manchester

Blink-182 come on stage to a huge reception from the crowd who keep the same energy from the first song to the last. Kicking the set off with ‘Anthem Part Two’ the band are all smiles as are the crowd with almost every person in the arena on their feet. Their high school humour appears early on with ‘Family Reunion’ the first bit of the night where it’s signature Blink-182 humour .

Between songs Hoppus and DeLonge bounce off each other’s childlike humour with numerous ‘your mum’ jokes and all the toilet humour you could think of. Can’t say I was surprised though, it is Blink-182 after all.

Travis Barker shines from the first minute with numerous opportunities to showcase himself as one of the best drummers in rock. Masterful fills and simply ridiculous solos, Barker remains silent for 99% of the evening doing all of his talking through his playing. Spending a number of songs with his drum riser 20 feet in the air, while killing a solo up there – no one can argue when his bandmates called him “the best to ever do it.”

It’s not all nostalgia though with the band throwing in a number of new songs ahead of the release of their new album this Friday. ‘MORE THAN YOU KNOW’ and ‘EDGING’ receive huge receptions from the crowd, while “DANCE WITH ME’  has the whole arena singing along with its simple but catchy chorus.

‘Adam’s Song’ is introduced by Hoppus who says the song saved his life. Hoppus who recently overcome stage four lymphoma thanked the crowd and his band mates for being there for him, while say saying there were times he thought he might never play again. The crowd showed their appreciation for Hoppus multiple times and sang ‘Adam’s Song’ loudly back to him.

With flames, fireworks, strobes and smoke, the band rattle through all their biggest hits to close. ‘First Date’, ‘All The Small Things’ and ‘Dammit’ take the crowd back to the late 90’s/early 2000’s with the majority of the crowd reliving their youth. Briefly leaving the stage they return to play final song, ‘ONE MORE TIME’ the title track of the new album.

With music often being so serious, Blink-182 are a reminder that not everything has to be like that. With tongue in cheek humour and more hits than you can possibly count, Blink are a definite reminder that music is supposed to be fun. Hoppus, DeLonge and Barker brought their nostalgia filled set, brought their huge production and brought a sea fans who loved every second.

“Hey, Tom’s back in the band!” declares Mark Hoppus partway through blink-182’s set. It’s one of only a couple of allusions made to undoubtedly the biggest development within their ranks in recent years—Tom DeLonge rejoining the fold, and thus returning one of pop-punk’s all-time conquerors to their iconic lineup. You could make the argument that that’s what sent the hype mill for this tour into overdrive. Sure, blink-182 would be capable of knocking out a world tour regardless nowadays, but it likely wouldn’t feel like this much of an event. Right now, they’re drawing towards the close of the UK and European leg with the first of two Manchester shows, as well as having a brand new album just on the horizon. From the perspective of someone on the ground, there hasn’t been this much fervour around blink-182 in a long, long time.

It’s certainly not the openers tipping the scales anyway, at least not in these circumstances. Whereas other territories have been lucky enough to have Turnstile or Rise Against, Europe has had The Story So Far , arguably among the least interesting of the world tour’s support suite, and a band firmly on the wane whose best days are now a good five-to-ten years behind them. Sadly, that’s only half of where they fall today, as they’re exceptionally quick to get swallowed up by a venue of this size. The poor mix is evident right from the jump (though it does improve somewhat as things go on), especially in a vocal echo that has Parker Cannon fighting to get a coherent word out half the time. That only exacerbates what already feels like a pretty lacklustre pop-punk enterprise. The energy that’s required just isn’t supplied when it’s demanded, doubly so when there’s a hardcore impulse indulged in. Rather, Cannon spends his time primarily still, spotlit and perched at the head of the diamond-shaped stage. Throw in a cover of Millencolin’s No Cigar that rockets over the heads of basically everyone here today, and a lacking showcase couldn’t be more evident.

It becomes even more galling next to how energy in the room shifts for blink-182 ’s arrival. The fanfare of Also sprach Zarathustra (or the main motif of 2001: A Space Odyssey, in layman’s terms) is suitably bombastic entrance music, particularly for the reconciliation that they’re so eager to show off. And right from the opening notes of Anthem Part Two , it’s evident that the Mark, Tom & Travis Show is back and firing on all cylinders. There’s an interplay present throughout that’s been missing as a key ingredient—Mark Hoppus as the more vibrant, kinetic livewire; Tom DeLonge, more in tune with an element of showmanship and posturing that serves as a handy foil; and Travis Barker, the drum maestro who’s clearly yet to grasp the concept of getting tired with how much of an unstoppable force behind the kit he is. Seriously, the live flowers frequently go to Barker, but it can’t be understated how vital he is in this unit; you’re not seeing other drummers carry on while their bandmate wraps a towel around their eyes, but the second half of Violence is just that.

More so than all of that though, there’s a return to the camaraderie that that elevates this so much more. When Matt Skiba was onstage, there was a salaryman presence of someone who wasn’t entirely flush with the space he’d be offered; with DeLonge, there’s no readjustment period whatsoever. It helps when neither he nor Hoppus are really the straight man in their dynamic. The overwhelmingmajority of between-song chatter is sex jokes, presumably to recapture the boyish crudeness of the past, and while not all of them land, the intent is there. When they do , there’s a natural riotousness that both men bring that feels entirely re-informed by DeLonge’s presence. Now especially, he feels like the face of the band.

He’s also the third turning cog in a live sense that Skiba never was. His presence musically is such an integral part of what this group is all about, which is especially evident after a few years’ distance from these songs that immediately click back into position. After all, I Miss You just isn’t the same without an extra ten syllables wedged into its “Where are you?” , is it? But more than that, the attempt to segment the last few DeLonge-less years does feel noteworthy. There’s barely anything from the Skiba era aired—nothing from Nine and only one from California . That’s Bored To Death , a song which, to be perfectly honest, sounds just as good with DeLonge’s vocals in place of Skiba’s. Maybe it’s there to test the waters to dip into that well more in future, but right now, the primary focus comes in the stuff that everyone knows and loves. The final run of about eleven songs is effectively a recap of the GOATed hits of blink-182’s catalogue, with a triple-header of What’s My Age Again? , All The Small Things and Dammit taking pride of place and sounding as phenomenal as always.

Even the new material works to a similar standard, grouped together mid-set as a primer for what’s to come in a week’s time, while also fielding the warm reception of to-be hits that could easily slot in anywhere. Dance All Night in particular has the pogoing, arena-ready that the best blink-182 hits do; the “Olé, olé, olé, olé” refrain carries a lot of weight, but the band themselves hardly slouch either. There’s genuine joy beaming from them at every moment, arguably more palpably than ever. You feel in when Hoppus discusses his cancer diagnosis before Adam’s Song , a rare oasis of poignancy in this set, but one that never feels diminished or like an awkward gear shift compared to what’s around it. When he says the band and making music saved his life, there’s the weight of experience in his voice that really strikes a chord, arguably more so than anything else. Similarly, when One More Time closes on the set’s most stripped-down, exhaling note, it’s a moment of clarity and duly-deserved celebration of this band, rather than anything close to a momentum killer.

Because at the end of the day, blink-182 do deserve to be celebrated. They’ve stuck it out this long, now back to their unshakable core trio, and are still unmistakably loved for doing so. The big theatrical moments are all well and good—the inflatable ambulance that rises and bounces around on Dumpweed ; the giant rabbit rising from the backing screens on What’s My Age Again? ; the hanging drum platform that rises on Down and stays suspended for most of the set’s duration—but it’s the songs and the humanity that do the most. Especially now, returning to a dynamic that was so formative for so many here tonight, there’s none of the arena-rock artifice or manufactured distance. From top to bottom, it’s fun, refreshed, and maybe the most electrified blink-182 have been in ages.

Blink-182 in Manchester review: Punk rockers take thousands back 25 years but it's tragic reminder that provides memorable finale

Blink-182 performed their final concert of their European tour at Manchester's AO Arena

It's not often you can relive your teenage years in a just under two hours.

But that's exactly what 40,000+ fans who crammed themselves into the AO Arena over Sunday and Monday night did as 90/00s icons Blink-182 brought their resounding European tour to a close in Manchester - and in true pop punk-rock style.

The band - aka Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge - formed 31 years ago but the old cliche that age is but a number certainly rings true for them. Despite two of them pushing 50 (Hoppus now being 51), they ripped into their set right from the word go. The frenetic pace - it is a 26-song setlist that they storm through in around 100 minutes - is one that takes its toll not just on the crowd's eardrums but the band themselves, with Barker posting grisly images of his latest finger injuries after the opening night in Manchester.

blink 182 tour manchester

But the fast-paced, rapid tunes means the crowd know they will be on their feet from the off as the first chord of Anthem Part Two that signalled the start of the night was greeted by a guttaral scream from all those packed into the Arena. A string of the group's 90s and 00s songs beloved by fans quickly followed with The Rock Show, Family Reunion and Man Overboard taking gig-goers back to their head-bashing days a quarter of a century ago and those years where Blink's songs gave some relief to the teenage angst felt by millions.

Despite both the band and crowd's being older than their heydays, what the majority had come to see were those tunes that brought them such joy in the 90s and 00s - and they were not disappointed. Hoppus and DeLonge, sporting his trademark backwards red baseball cap, danced and jumped on the stage like they were back in 1998 - popping jumps and sliding guitar solos included - and the crowd were with them for every beat. There were the classic Blink backgrounds (DANGER: C***sucker being just one) and the chat between Hoppus and DeLonge that showed how keen they were to take them back to the noughties, complete with dad, horse d*ck and 'your mum' jokes, obviously.

blink 182 tour manchester

Blink know what they are about, though. People weren't there for the banter between the three, but the tunes.

Feeling This, Dysentery Gary and Violence (which Barker played blindfolded for half of) were throttled out before the thousands even had a time to blink, bringing whooping screams and the occasional mosh-pit. And the person whose skills undoubtedly enticed those in the mosh more than anyone else was Barker.

With the band being very much a trio, it would be easy for the drummer to take a back seat in any other group. Any other drummer isn't Travis Barker, though.

From halfway through the set, he took centre stage - from Hoppus showing Barker's fingers literally pouring with blood after a particuarly brutal rendition of Aliens Exist to the drummer being hoisted 20 foot in the air for the final 40 minutes. Every song looked like he was playing it as his last, and it was no wonder the drumsticks he threw into the crowd at the end of the gig were so eagerly coveted by those lucky enough to be in the firing line.

blink 182 tour manchester

Monday night was the last show of Blink-182's European leg of their world tour, and the last they'll play ahead of their new album - One More Time...' - being released on Friday. This easily could have been a show where the new stuff was the focus or given undue prominence on the night and the fan favourites were left till the end - but thankfully Blink-182 have been around for too long to fall into that trap. The new songs were mixed into the packed-out set-list - with a quick flurry of MORE THAN YOU KNOW, EDGING AND DANCE WITH ME all quickly following on from each other and all received well by the die-hards in the crowd.

It wouldn't be long after those up-to-date tunes that provided those in attendance with the memories that would stay most, though. On a rarity for the band in a set that was otherwise full of music, it was Hoppus' words when he spoke that provided the emotional heft on two occasions.

blink 182 tour manchester

The screams that greeted him saying that it was "emo time" and the subseuquent 'emo' hits - the pick of which is always the anthemic and crowd-pleasing 'Stay Together For the Kids' - was nearly enough. But it was by speaking about the tragic, personal journey that he has been through that really hit home.

Any fan will know 'Adam's Song' and the tragic references to suicide that it makes. But Hoppus' moving minute on stage talking about his battle with stage 4 cancer and how writing songs and touring with his two best mates "saved my life for a second time" was such a drastic direction from the rest of the set - and so heartfelt - that it meant anyone in the crowd would have been hard pressed not to have been moved. Before they then got the crowd in the palm of their hand by belting out Adam's Song, obviously.

blink 182 tour manchester

Blink-182 are world-renowned for a reason - and finishing off their final Manchester show with the crowd favourites of What's My Age Again, First Date and All the Small Things shows they know exactly what the bulk of those in attendance are there for. Frontmen Hoppus and DeLonge made sure to give the crowd what they wanted in the final minutes, sliding and jumping around the stage while blasting out the belters. It truly was a night where people forgot what's their age, again - and long may it continue.
