Visit Chokchai Farm in Khao Yai — One of the Best Tourist Attractions in Thailand

Why you should visit chokchai farm in khao yai, thailand.

A couple of years ago, I went on a three day trip to Khao Yai, Thailand, with the company I was working for at the time. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to Chokchai Farm  in Khao Yai, a family-oriented dairy ranch I have visited several times since, and one of the area’s most popular tourist attractions.

Now if somebody said you were going to spend five hours at a dairy farm, your first question would probably be “why?” Mine was, too. That’s why I was incredibly impressed when I got there to see how much fun it was going to be.

Chokchai Farm is South Asia’s largest dairy farm and, if you’re not into farming, you’d think you’d be bored. Wrong! Chokchai Farm is also one of Thailand’s most popular tourist attractions. It’s less than 160 kilometres outside Bangkok, so you can get there in a couple of hours. It’s also a fun place for all the family but especially for the kids.

So, if you’re looking for an interesting and unusual place to visit the next time you’re in Thailand, don’t miss Chokchai Farm and here’s why.

Chokchai Farm Tour – When you first visit Chokchai Farm in Khao Yai, you buy a ticket and then wait for their next Farm Tour. We didn’t have to wait as we were in a group of over 100 people, so the tour was already set up for us. When we arrived, we were shown into a small theatre and watched a short movie about Chokchai Farm – how it started, how it grew and what products they made.

Surprisingly, there were also English subtitles, which is unusual outside of Bangkok, so the western expats in the group knew what was going on too.

After the movie, we were shown out of the movie theatre and then walked around part of the farm to see a prize bull and hear about Chockchai Farms breeding program. We also saw a demonstration of milking, and volunteers from our group were asked to try their hand at milking a cow. We saw how the milk was processed, how the famous Chokchai ice cream was made, and even saw an old Ferguson tractor and the first pick up truck in Thailand, a 1957 Peugot.

From there, we climbed onto a tractor caravan (like an open sided train), and we were driven around the farm to see the land and the cattle.

After about 10 minutes, we stopped at a mock cowboy town and here we could buy iced coffee, milk or ice cream all made with the famous Chokchai Ummmm….Milk! (It was delicious!).

The kids could ride horses, adults and kids could ride ATVs around the farm, and then we were treated to a short demonstration of cowboy skills with whip cracking, gun skills and horse riding.

Moving on in the Farm Tour, we next stopped at a small petting zoo where the kids could feed the rabbits, calves, lambs and deer. Across from the zoo was a small animal show where Golden Retrievers, calves, and even a monkey doing funny tricks.

Finally, there was a demonstration of sheep dogs rounding up cattle and then onto the Chokchai Farm shop where we could buy souvenirs, or go into the cafe next door and get coffee, juices, milk or one of the many flavors of delicious ice cream.

Educational Value of Chokchai Farm – Visiting Chokchai Farm in Khao Yai is not only a fun day for the family but it’s also a wonderful educational experience for kids.

After all, many city children have little idea about what happens on a working farm, so it’s fun for them to see where milk comes from, how it’s processed and what products you can make from it.

Chokchai Farm also seems to take good care of its animals. Everything was pristine and clean, and the cattle seemed to get a lot of freedom, so you could tell the owners of the farm value and love their livestock.

The Clean Air and Beauty of Chokchai Farm – Living or spending a lot of time in Bangkok, it was nice to be able to get out of the city, see a blue cloud-free sky and breath clean air. Chokchai Farm is in a beautiful area near Khao Yai, one of Thailand’s largest national parks, and it’s lovely just to walk around, admire the green fields, the orchards and the hills in the distance.

Other Events at Chokchai Farm – Chokchai Farm also puts on a couple of ice cream workshops every day. Each workshop runs for around an hour and here you’ll learn how to make your own ice cream, even being able to choose your own flavor.

Chokchai Farm even runs 2 and 3-day camps, where you can not only learn about the farm and how it works, but you can also stay on the farm for one or two nights in a seminar room or out in a boutique room in the middle of the forest. A wonderful way to get back to nature and relax.

Chokchai Food – Chockchai Farm is famous for its steak and hamburgers, the best in Thailand, and available in many of Bangkok’s shopping malls.

At Chokchai Farm, you can buy amazing steak and one of the best hamburgers you’ll ever eat. If you’re driving by, you don’t even have to visit the farm as Chokchai has food stalls set up all along the side of the road right outside the farm that sell amazing food.  Get the french fries too – thick and so delicious.

And, if you love the food, there are Chokchai Steakhouses in Bangkok where you can eat it again.

Chokchai Farm is one of the most impressive tourist attractions I’ve been to in Thailand. It’s in a lovely area of the country, less than two hours from Bangkok, and is a fun and educational place for all the family.

I highly recommend a visit.

In 1965, after constant supply of machinery and construction materials to the US Air Force, it has built a 26-storey ‘Chokchai Building’ on Sukhumvit Road, which had been the tallest skyscraper in Thailand. Cows wandering about in Chokchai Farm.

Chokchai Farm

Farm, ice cream, entertaining shows, and outdoor activities? And in Thailand? Look no further than Chokchai Farm! Located in the Khao Yai part of Nakhon Ratchasima, it is the largest farm in the country. This place has incorporated the whole western wild west cowboy concept. With cowboys, cowgirls, gunslinging shows, super breed cows, outdoor activities and ice cream, a visit to this popular place is a must if you want to stay near Bangkok for your holidays.

Chokchai Farm started life when Khun Chokchai Bulakul purchased small farmland in Pak Chong in 1957. The farm was originally a beef cattle business, but due to difficulties, it had to change to a dairy farm. The farm would go through a rebranding, a repositioning and a rejuvenation process to be the Chokchai Farm we know today. When you visit during the holidays such as Christmas and New Year, you’ll most likely see an abundance of tourists since this place is a popular and well-known tourist destination near Bangkok .

One of the main features of the farm is the Chokchai Farm Agro Tour, where you’ll get a chance to enjoy hands-on experiences on the actual farm while learning about the daily life of dairy farmers. You’ll be engaged in creative activities that will help enrich the connections individuals and families have with the land, promote wellbeing, and remind us all of the traditional Thai livelihood: agriculture.

Once you are done with the activities, another recommended attraction is the Chokchai Steakhouse. Their high-quality beef and other meats, this restaurant is a must for steak lovers.

TakeMeTour's Review

FARM CHOKCHAI: All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go (with Photos)

Roadtrippers.asia

Farm chokchai ~ one interesting working dairy farm to visit in khao yai.

' src=

Khao Yai has been calling for quite sometime, especially with all those lovely photos shared on social media during the “winter months” so during my recent trip to Bangkok for Songkran – the Water Festival, I decided to spare a few extra days and make a run to Khao Yai.

One of the attraction on our must visit list is Chokchai Farm , one of the largest, if not the largest dairy farm in Thailand and one that does offer a farm tour for locals and visitors alike.

We were there on a weekday, thus they only have two farm tours – 10:00 am and 2:30 pm. We took the morning tour but due to the Songkran traffic, we got there a little late as we mistakenly went to the Chokchai Museum entrance instead and missed out the first video presentation. The presentation was about the history of the farm as well as some explanations at the Super Gene station on how the farm artificially inseminate their cows to create their exclusive breed of Holstein-Friesian (on video ya).

We joined in at the second station, which was an explanation (and show) on the differences between the traditional hand milking vs advanced machine milking. It was the first time for me to come so close to a milking a cow and I would say it was fun and educational.

From the milking station, we were shown to the ice-cream factory where we can see from behind the glass how ice-creams and yogurts were made and all in the group were given a sample of their yummy dessert. FYI, products from Chokchai Farm is now branded as Umm! Milk as they have sold off their Chokchai Milk brand back in 1994 as they restructure their operations.

Next up from the production facilities was the tram ride which took us around the farm to see some of the 3,000 heads of cattle held in different areas, the patches where they grow the different types of grass, the hay storage and etc.

The tram makes its round and took us to the interactive area where we are “let loose” to take selfies or enjoy some horse rides and games while we await the live cowboy show.

The selfie areas as well as the flower fields were probably the best we came across in Khao Yai. The fields were well kept, good varieties and expansive even though it was “off-season”.

The live cowboy show was entertaining and fun especially here in South East Asia. You probably don’t see much of these unless you’re at some movie studios.

From the interactive zones, we went on to a small sheep feeding area where you can buy some grass and go into the feeding area and you will have a mob of sheep following you everywhere you go … haha .. probably following the grass and not you.

After the feeding fun, we decided to go for the Chokchai Museum (it is another entity by itself – a new ticket is needed), but this multi-storey museum has quite a bit to look into the life of legendary Thai cowboy, Khun Chokchai Bulakul who founded the Chokchai Farm back in 1957.

Different floors of the museum showed-off different things – from his automobile collections to how the area was like (including his little shelter), his guns and camera collections to his antique fans and entertainment consoles. The museum also has a good collection of military memorabilia as well as a collection of the twelve Chinese Zodiac animals, all in white.

We ended our visit of Chokchai Farm and Museum with a fine lunch at Chokchai Steakhouse were we ordered some wonderful Australian Waygu Beef, Kurobuta Pork Chops and some Thai delights. If you’re not into a heavy lunch, you can try our their burger shack too.

Overall, I would say the visit to Chokchai Farm and Museum was an interesting one, unlike many other attractions in South East Asia, this is fun yet educational. I think if you have kids, they will really enjoy it and for adults like me, it was fun and interesting too.
