Asia's summers tend to be hot and humid — great weather for lounging on a tropical beach, but if you're looking for cooler temps, visit at the end of spring or the start of autumn.

English is spoken and taught in many Asian countries as a second language, but it's always handy to know a few words in the local language to help you navigate the place and culture.

Stop for food at the spots you see crowded with locals: You might wait in line a bit, but the busy spots are sure to serve up the best, most authentic dishes.

RELATED PORTS

Visit your favorite Asia cruise ports as you tour through China's biggest cities, from Hong Kong to Shanghai and Beijing. Experience the culture of mysterious and bustling Japan: See the urban sprawl of Tokyo and the quiet temples and traditional markets of Kyoto. Things to Do on a Cruise to Asia

The lands of China, Japan and Korea all have an air of mystery to most Americans. This is because for many years travel was restricted (or even forbidden), so Asian culture is still filled with mystery – and in many instances hasn’t been overwritten by modern technology and trends. That’s not to say that Asia is stuck in a time warp, because with one trip to Tokyo you’ll feel like you’ve been catapulted into the future. Outlined below are some of the top things to do when cruising to Asia and the Far East:

Great Wall of China

  • Take a stroll along the Great Wall of China. The wall was built in several pieces over time, but connected throughout the centuries. Though it’s not really visible from space, it’s still an incredibly large landmark at over 5,000 miles long.
  • Attend a Sumo wrestler tournament in Japan. This traditional Japanese sport has many customs attached to it, and you’ll be surprised at how exhilarating the matches can be.

Forbidden City in China

  • The Forbidden City is the palace complex that was home to China’s emperors from 1420 to 1912. There are a number of exciting artifacts here, so take a tour to get better insight into China’s past.
  • Celebrate with a drink and some karaoke. Japan is the birthplace of this beloved pastime that has been adopted the world over. In Japan, most karaoke is done in a small room with just your friends.

Korean Folk Village

  • Head to Chengdu where the giant panda’s live. You can learn all about these adorable creatures at the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base.
  • Take a fun trip to the Korean Folk Village just outside of Seoul where you can see what life was like centuries ago in Korea and discover the crafts and skills for which Korea and its people are known.

Cheap Asia Cruises - Cruises to Asia

Featured asia cruise deals, cruising guide, why cruise to asia.

More than 30 cruise lines operate itineraries in Asia, across more than 200 ports, representing 17 countries. And that's not including the river cruise lines that ply the main rivers there.

Cruising is one of the best ways to see Asia, particularly if you don't have a lot of time. A two-week cruise in the region can visit seven or more ports, all offering unique experiences. Or concentrate on just one country. For example, Japan-intensive cruises give people a chance to visit all the major Japanese ports in one sailing.

Additionally, cruises are a good way for Westerners to visit Asia, because you'll often be touring with English-speaking local guides who can assist with language and local customs.

What are Popular Activities in Asia?

A cruise to Asia, no matter which region, is a culturally rich experience replete with visits to sacred temples, ancient monuments and architectural marvels, along with bustling cities and rural villages.

On East Asia sailings, which typically include one or more stops in China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, visitors enjoy hiking the Great Wall of China, browsing the colorful street markets of Tokyo, visiting the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto and watching the changing of the guard at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial in Taipei. Other popular activities are dim sum or sake tastings, Tai Chi and calligraphy lessons, meals in local homes and visits to sumo stables to observe Japan's famous wrestlers.

Southeast Asia, which includes countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia, is similarly as spectacular. The most popular tours go to the stunningly ornate temples in Thailand and Cambodia and explore of some of the world's busiest cities including Hong Kong and Singapore. Also popular are short cruises through the islands of Halong Bay, harrowing tuk-tuk rides to Wat Po where you'll find the largest reclining Buddha in Thailand, and visiting museums in Ho Chi Minh such as the War Remnants Museum.

On cruises that stop in Malaysia and Indonesia, a visit to Kuala Lumpur is tops, with its ancient temples and mosques set next to modern skyscrapers that are among the tallest in the world.

The most popular activities on China's Yangtze River are visits to the Three Gorges Dam, Shibaozhai Temple and "ghost city" of Fengdu, taking in a Chinese opera and, of course, seeing pandas at the Chongqing Zoon.

On Mekong River (Cambodia/Vietnam) cruises, cruisers enjoy walking through remote local villages, riding tuk-tuks in cities, seeing how local arts and crafts are made, visiting the Killing Fields and hearing from locals about their lives. Most cruisers also extend their stay (either before or after, depending on which end of the river they depart from) to visit Angkor Wat.

On the Ganges, in India, cruisers visit temples and colonial buildings, and meet with locals to find out about life along the river.

When is a Good Time to Cruise to Asia?

Cruises sail to and within Asia throughout the year, but high season for both ocean and river cruising is November through March, which is also when you'll find the highest prices and the most crowded tourist attractions. June and July are notorious for high temperatures, oppressive humidity and lots of rain, but that's also when prices are lower and the crowds are thinner.

India river cruises have a slightly different season, with most sailings operating between October and March, with late December and early January not recommended because of thick fogs that can settle over parts of the country. February is the best month to go, with temperatures in the high 60s and low 70s Fahrenheit and lower humidity.

In China, on the other hand, the main Yangtze River cruise season is April to October, with the best weather in April, May, September and October.

What are Popular Ports in Asia?

Cruise lines offer a variety of sailing routes throughout Asia, both along the various coastlines on oceangoing ships and on several rivers, the most popular of which are the Yangtze, Mekong, Irrawaddy and Ganges rivers.

Generally speaking, East Asia (China, Japan, Korea) cruise itineraries include three or more of the following ports: Aomori, Akita, Hakodate, Kobe, Kagoshima, Kochi, Osaka, Okinawa, Otaru or Nagasaki in Japan; Busan, Incheon or Jeju in South Korea; Taipei, Taiwan; and Hong Kong and Shanghai, China.

The most common Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam) ocean-based cruises run north or south between Hong Kong and Singapore. Ports you're likely to visit on these cruises include: Ko Samui, Bangkok and Phuket, Thailand; and Ho Chi Minh City, Chan May/Hue, Hoi An, Halong Bay and Da Nang, Vietnam.

You can also elect to take a cruise that concentrates on Indonesia or Malaysia. These typically include stops in: Benoa (Bali) and Komodo, Indonesia; Langkawi and Port Kelang, Malaysia; and Phuket, Thailand.

The two most popular river cruises in the region are on the Yangtze River in China and the Mekong River, which runs through Vietnam and Cambodia. Ports on the Yangtze River sailings might include Yichang and Wuhan, along with a stop at the Three Gorges Dam site. Ports on Mekong River cruises include Phnom Penh and Kampong Chan in Cambodia, as well as numerous small towns in both countries along the river.

Growing in popularity are Myanmar (Burma) cruises on the Irrawaddy River, which stop in Yangon (Rangoon), Bagan and Mandalay.

Ganges River cruises in India are also growing in popularity and feature stops in Kalna, Matiari, Murshidbad, Mayapur, Bandel, Chandenagor and Varanasi.

Where do Asia cruises depart from?

Most East Asia cruises (China, Japan, Korea) depart from Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai or Beijing. Southeast Asia ocean cruises (Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand) generally begin and end in Singapore, though some sail between Singapore and Hong Kong.

Cruises that concentrate on Indonesia and/or Malaysia typically begin and end in Singapore.

As for river cruises: Yangtze River cruises depart from Chongqing, China. Mekong River cruises start and end in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Kampong Cham or Ankor Wat, Cambodia (or vice versa). River cruises in Myanmar (Burma) begin and end in Bangkok or Yangon, and the standard Ganges River cruise begins and ends in Kolkata.

What are Popular Regions of Asia?

Choose from East Asia (China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan) or Southeast Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar/Burma) itineraries.

You'll find more river cruise options in Southeast Asia (Mekong and Irrawaddy), though a Yangtze River Cruise in China is a popular option for many travelers to Asia.

In India, cruises are offered along the Ganges River.

What are Tips to Find Cruise deals to Asia?

Here are our best tips for finding a cheap cruise or cruise deal to Asia. If you book a “guaranteed cabin” (they select for you), a cabin on a lower deck or sail on an older ship from a brand you like, then you can get the best price for a specific cruise to Asia. Last minute cruises deals to Asia appear as you get closer to the sail date, usually 1-2 weeks in advance. Taking a cruise to Asia in the shoulder season (before or after the peak season) can also be a great way to find a cruise deal.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s 2024/25 season will triple its offerings in Asia Pacific, and allow guests to explore deeper than ever before.

Norwegian Cruise Line is set to expand its sailings in Asia next year, bursting back into the region with three ships – Norwegian Spirit, Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Sky (the latter two making their debut in Asia) – tripling the line’s offering in the region and extending a full eight months from October 2024 through to May 2025.

For the new season, expect port-rich and country-intensive itineraries with fewer sea days and even more overnight stays in-country, thanks to the smaller size of Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Sky allowing access to smaller ports.

Cruisers can choose from hundreds of shore excursions, from a night in vibrant Phuket to a cycle rickshaw tour around Ho Chi Minh City’s colonial architecture, pagodas and markets.

Norwegian Sun

Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Sky have joined the Asia sailings for 2024/25.

Asia destinations

With new ships heading to Asia, Norweigan Cruise Line is offering a deeper dive into Asia than ever before: Japan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia are all on the itinerary. Some itineraries will even take you through parts of Africa and The Maldives.

Departure ports include Tokyo and Osaka; Singapore; Colombo; Ko Samui; Bali (Benoa); Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang); Lembar (Lombok); Malé; Seoul; and NCL’s first departure from Akita.

Relax in idyllic Ko Samui.

Itinerary highlights

Asia cruises range from 10 to 14 days, with an average of fewer than two sea days per voyage, and a great mix of tropical islands, major cities and lesser-known ports.

Discover the stunning colours of Japan in Autumn with Japanese autumn foliage cruises board Norwegian Sun, or view the iconic spring sight of cherry blossoms on a collection of popular Japanese spring cherry blossom cruises aboard Norwegian Sky.

New voyages to and from Seoul in March 2024 will include an excursion to the fascinating volcanic landscape – from craters to cavelike lava tubes – on Jeju Island.

Explore further around Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines thanks to a suite of country-intensive Asia cruises aboard both Norwegian Sky and Sun.

Or take your adventure beyond Asia with a new 17-Day Asia: Maldives, Thailand & Seychelles Extraordinary Journey sailing across the Indian Ocean from Mauritius to Singapore. Stop along the way at 10 different ports from Madagascar and the Seychelles to Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

Sychelles Maldives

Stop in the Maldives before ending your cruise in Asia.

What to expect onboard Norwegian Cruise Line

Returning for another year, mid-size Norwegian Spirit can accommodate 2,376 passengers in 1,118 recently revamped cabins and larger suites. The Haven, located in an exclusive area at the top of the ship, offers the most luxurious suites and villas for up to eight people, with concierge and butler service, and a private sundeck and pool.

Enjoy a tipple in the Champagne Bar.

Among the 15 dining venues are Sushi, Teppanyaki and Chin Chin, which serve freshly prepared Asian cuisine, a Brazilian steakhouse, a French bistro, an Italian restaurant, a cafe with a bakery, and plenty of complimentary options. Speciality bars focus on specific beverages such as sake, whiskey, beer, cocktails, Champagne and wine, or guests can enjoy the poolside bar, O’Sheehan’s Bar & Grill, and the Ultra Bliss Lounge nightclub.

A theatre hosts free shows including Rock You Tonight , covering hits by Queen, Journey and The Who, as well as Blazing Boots , a full-scale production that is a tribute to pop country.

Norwegian Spirit pool deck

Spend sunny days on the pool deck.

Guests can get also be pampered at Mandara Spa® and Thermal Suite, which houses a thalassotherapy pool, steam room and sauna. Other amenities include pools, spas, casino, kids and teens clubs, a card room, a library, video arcade, and basketball, tennis and volleyball courts.

Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Sky provide more intimate experiences, with a guest capacity of 1936 and 2004 respectively. A smaller size certainly doesn’t mean less to do, however.

Norwegian Sky, refurbished in 2019, offers guests 10 dining options and plenty of bars and lounges to relax in. Take a splash in its two spacious outdoor pools or head to the award-winning Mandara Spa for some pampering between destinations. Find a further range of activities and entertainment to keep guests busy, from dance floors to the Comedy variety show at the Stardust Theatre to outdoor Basketball and Volleyball courts. Kids can stay busy at the Splash Academy kids club and children’s pool, plus there’s the teen hangout, Entourage.

Top Asia FAQs

When’s the best time to cruise to Asia?

We offer a wide variety of Asia itineraries with our revolutionized Celebrity Solstice ship sailing during the winter and Celebrity Millenium year round. Each region of Asia offers different experiences guests can enjoy.

The winter months, from November to February, are the ideal time to explore South Asia, including India and Sri Lanka, when the climate is less humid, giving you more energy for sightseeing.

Countries like South Korea and Japan are delightful all through the summer months and have perfect weather to lounge by their spectacular beaches.

The Lunar New Year usually falls in February, and this is a fantastic time to be in Asia, with widespread celebrations in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Is a cruise a good way to see Asia?

A cruise is the perfect way to see Asia. You’re able to visit multiple places in comfort, with no effort required on your part to get from one to the other. A Celebrity Asian cruise vacation takes you to some of the most exciting destinations in the world, from Japan and Hong Kong, to the island paradise of Bali.  As an example, in the space of just 12 nights, you could visit exciting cities like Singapore, to off-the-beaten path destinations in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

A 12-night Japan itinerary takes you to six contrasting destinations in Japan itself, as well as Busan in South Korea. You could also choose a 14-night itinerary from Singapore to Mumbai, which follows the coast of Malaysia, crosses the Indian Ocean, and then explores Sri Lanka and three ports in India.

Many of our itineraries include overnight stops in destinations including Hong Kong, Bangkok, Hanoi, Phuket and more, giving you time to experience local night markets and restaurants.

Where do Asia cruises depart from?

Celebrity offers a wide choice of cruises in Asia. Departure ports include Bali, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mumbai, and Tokyo.

Do I need visas to visit each country?

It is the responsibility of each guest to identify and obtain all required travel documents and have them available at the pier when necessary. Before leaving home, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required travel documents you will be asked to provide prior to boarding the ship. You’ll find more information here .

The majority of Asian nations do not require a visa for entry, but some do. To visit India, for example, you will need to get a visa before you leave home.

What are the main ports of call on an Asian cruise?

Any cruise to Asia is packed with exciting ports, from vibrant cities to blissful beach locations on islands including Langkawi, Ko Samui, and Phuket.

To many, the real marquee ports are the cities like Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Mumbai, Tokyo, and Ho Chi Minh City. But often, it’s the places in between that leave just as great an impression, whether you’re exploring an exquisite temple in Kyoto or cruising the serene backwaters of Cochin on a rice barge.

What’s best about an Asia cruise with Celebrity is that our ships stay overnight in many ports, so you can really get to know a destination. In Hanoi, for example, you can enjoy the buzz of the city and spend a day sailing beautiful Halong Bay. In Bangkok, there’s time to see the shimmering Grand Palace as well as take a river cruise and browse colorful floating markets.

Are there any vaccination or health requirements?

There are no compulsory vaccinations to visit Asian countries, but it is recommended to be up to date with all your regular inoculations, including tetanus and hepatitis A. It’s important to consult your physician in advance to plan a vaccination schedule.

Celebrity’s Asian itineraries do not visit ports where malaria is known to be a high risk, so it is unlikely that you will need anti-malarial drugs—but again, check with your physician or travel health clinic in advance as everybody’s situation is different.

How do I handle currency exchange for the different countries visited?

Most places in Southeast Asia and Japan take credit cards, but you will need a small amount of local currency to shop in markets or buy souvenirs from vendors. For India, rural areas still have a cash economy, so you will need some rupees outside of the main urban areas.

While enthusiastic souvenir vendors may offer to take U.S. dollars, you will not get a good exchange rate, and you will be given change in local currency. If you choose to pay this way, make sure you know the exchange rate and what denominations local notes come in.

If you use an ATM on your travels, it’s safer to use one that’s attached to a reputable bank.

What languages are commonly spoken, and will I need a translator or phrasebook?

Dozens of different languages are spoken across Asia; India alone has 22 official languages. While it’s polite to offer a greeting in the local language, and helpful to know a few phrases, it’s not necessary to be fluent.

You will not need a translator on your travels in Asia. All guides on shore excursions speak English. A lot of signage is in English as well as the local language, especially in tourist areas. In many countries, such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and India, English is an official language, and in many others, it is taught in school as a second language.

What cultural and historical sites can I expect to see on excursions?

Our wide range of excursions takes you to all the main cultural sites in the ports we visit. You can explore historic George Town from Penang, and take in the buzz and bustle of Hong Kong’s various night markets on an after-dark tour.

See the temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok and visit the poignant Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima. Learn about Buddhism with a monk in Colombo, and explore the dazzling imperial city of Hue from Chan May, Vietnam.

Are there specific cultural norms or etiquette I should be aware of?

It’s a good idea to take a little time to understand the culture of the Asian countries you are visiting. Generally speaking, extreme politeness is important, as is taking the time to greet people, and remaining softly spoken.

Many Asian countries are Buddhist, in which case, always show respect to Buddha statues and temples and do not touch Buddhist monks. Do not point at people and do not be surprised if a local avoids eye contact during a conversation; this is a sign of respect. In Thailand, it is an offense to say anything negative about the royal family.

Try to understand the sense of “face” that is prevalent in Asian countries. Saving face is important; so, for example, a person may tell you what they think you want to hear rather than the reality, to avoid losing face. Shouting at someone causes you to lose face.

Japan in particular is a country with a complex social etiquette. Just a few include not tipping (it’s just not done here); never blowing your nose in public; taking off your shoes before entering a temple; and not blocking busy sidewalks in the densely populated cities.

If you’re visiting somewhere on a tour where specific etiquette is expected, your guide will point out all you need to know.

Cruise lines call for greater collaboration and investment in smaller Asian ports

cruise liners in asia

Asia’s cruising scene has heated up in recent months, with large cruise liners like Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) celebrating its long-awaited return to the region, and Celebrity Cruises debuting its Edge-Series ships in Asia.

To elevate the cruise passenger experience, both cruise liners’ Asia itineraries highlight opportunities for their guests to call at lesser-known destinations. However, smaller ports in the region can sometimes be found lacking in modern cruise terminal infrastructure, and coupled with cumbersome visa processes.

Ben Angell, NCL’s vice president and managing director, Asia Pacific, told  TTG Asia : “Smaller ports often grapple with challenges like limited infrastructure and underdeveloped supply chains. That is why collaboration between local authorities and cruise lines like NCL is important.

“Through strategic planning and partnership, these ports can progressively adapt to accommodate larger capacities. Over time, the revenue generated from tourism can be reinvested into upgrading facilities, fostering a cycle of improvement and growth that benefits both the ports and the wider community.”

Angell added that working closely with local authorities is also crucial to ensure our operations do not negatively impact the environment.

Tim Jones, vice president and managing director, Australia, New Zealand and Asia, Celebrity Cruises, said: “As we strengthen our collaboration with Asia’s governments and tourism boards, we hope to see investments in the development of port infrastructure and cruise terminals to further enhance passengers’ embarkation and debarkation processes.”

Jones also pointed out that “visa and immigration processes” in Asia “can be improved further”.

“While the ideal for us would be a future where these are no longer required for cruising, very similar to what we have for some itineraries in the US, Australia and Europe, we do acknowledge that cruising in Asia is still growing and maturing.

“We also believe in closer ties with our government partners to help make rules and regulations clearer, more transparent and consistent, not just across countries in the region but also within the same country,” Jones elaborated.

At the end of 2023,  Celebrity Edge  was first to set sail from Singapore on a 14-night itinerary exploring coastlines from Asia to Australia.  Celebrity Millennium  will be homeporting in Tokyo (Yokohama) from April to October this year, sailing 12-night itineraries. Following its season in Japan,  Celebrity Millennium  will join  Celebrity   Solstice , and ply South-east Asian waters on 11-to-14-night sailings visiting 32 destinations from September 2024 to April 2025.

When asked if NCL would consider developing potential ports in Asia, similar to what Royal Caribbean has done with Penang , Angell shared that the cruise line will “collaborate with local authorities and stakeholders to enhance port development, focusing on regions we frequently sail”.

He related how Alaska, a prime destination for NCL guests, has seen “significant investment”, where parent company NCL Holdings facilitated the development of a second cruise pier at Icy Strait Point and expanded the Wilderness Landing Pier.

“We created a large vehicle-free zone, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the natural splendour of Alaska, including a dedicated viewing platform for coastal brown bears. Enhancements in destination experiences include the world’s largest ZipRider zip line, whale watching, kayaking, and various shore excursions that celebrate the rich heritage of the local Huna Tlingit community,” he elaborated.

Both NCL and Celebrity Cruises have also vowed to work closely with the Asia chapter of the Cruise Lines International Association to drive promotional efforts, infrastructure upgrading, and policies for the region.

“There is always more we can all do and it is incumbent on the cruise industry to collaborate and speak with one voice to ensure our message is heard across the region,” concluded Jones.

“Given the existing close ties between cruise associations and the industry, there’s a promising opportunity for these associations to act as central hubs, linking industry stakeholders, cruise lines, ports, and government authorities. By fostering collaboration within a unified framework, these associations can drive collective efforts to elevate the Asian cruising experience,” added Angell.

7 amazing cruise itineraries to book in 2024

I don't know about you, but each year, as the weather turns cold, I start daydreaming about getting out of Dodge — or, in my case, Pennsylvania. My mind wanders to cruises that will take me to places where the temperature is warmer, but I also take a hard look at the (exceptionally lengthy) list of places I'm longing to visit.

After digging through what's new for 2024, I've come up with a shortlist of sailings that I think are noteworthy. They range from a standard Bahamas voyage with a new twist and an extended Alaska sailing that includes a foray across the Arctic Circle to more far-flung destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dream on, dear reader, and add these to your list of 2024 cruise itineraries.

Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Seabourn's 'Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas' itinerary

Last year, the Australia and New Zealand cruise region gained momentum following the pandemic shutdown. In 2024, the hardly populated Australia region of The Kimberley is gaining popularity. Luxury cruise brand Seabourn will be offering a series of six 10-night voyages between Broome and Darwin on expedition vessel Seabourn Pursuit during what will be early winter in the southern hemisphere.

The line's " Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas " will take passengers to places along the coast few passengers are able to visit to see the stunning teal waters and horizontal waterfalls of Talbot Bay, sample wines in the Hunter River Region and check out nature preserves in Wyndham.

Details: The first sailing, from Darwin to Broome, embarks on June 12. The final voyage, from Broome to Darwin, departs on Aug. 1. Prices start from $6,134 per person ($613 per person, per night), double occupancy, for the July 2 cruise. All accommodations are suites with balconies.

Celebrity's 'Best of Japan' and 'Vietnam and Thailand' cruises

The number of voyages in Asia was trending upward notably prior to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought cruising in the region to an extended halt. And it's once again on the rise. Following that curve, Celebrity Cruises will be running new 11- to 13-night Asia sailings in 2024 on two ships — Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice — that bring stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand.

What's notable about the offerings is that they will aim to immerse passengers further into the destinations by including overnights in a total of 11 ports across all itineraries. That means more time to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter as the sun sets, indulge in nighttime gastronomy in Hong Kong, visit one of Bangkok's many markets, or learn why Osaka is known for street food.

Details: Celebrity Millennium's " Best of Japan " cruises run from early mid-March to early October. At press time, the least expensive fares — for a 12-night sailing — start from $1,330 per person ($111 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. It travels round-trip from Yokohama and visits Hiroshima, Pusan and other ports, including Osaka, where the ship will overnight.

Celerbrity Solstice's Vietnam and Thailand cruises kick off in mid-January and run through March. The ship will resume them again in the fall of 2024 and run through the winter season. Prices start from $1,255 per person ($105 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. The voyage sails from Hong Kong to Singapore with stops in Da Nang and Koh Samui, plus overnights in Hanoi and Bangkok.

SeaDream's 'Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles' sailing

Here's one to put on your radar if you're looking to book — but not necessarily sail — in 2024. It's a new Mediterranean itinerary that doesn't start up for nearly three more years, in 2026. The SeaDream routing brings stops at seven ports that are rarely visited by cruise passengers. During the seven-night voyages, there will be calls at Primosten, Croatia; Cesme, Turkey; Cetubal, Portugal; and Kythira, Kythnos, Syvota and Tinos, Greece — making these sailings unique and well-suited to anyone who loves the region but who's looking for new places to experience.

SeaDream's small ships, each of which carries just 112 people, are able to reach locales about which passengers on megaships can only fantasize. Couple that with excellent service, and you'll be visiting the Our Lady of Loretto statue in Primosten, touring the Cesme Castle and lounging on stunning Greek beaches from a home base that puts you squarely in the lap of luxury.

Details: An itinerary that includes three of the seven new ports is the 11-night " Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles " itinerary from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, departing on Aug. 8, 2026, on SeaDream I. Prices start from $10,399 per person ($946 per person, per night) for a room with a porthole view.

Holland America's 'Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice' Legendary Voyage

Alaska is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys the vastness of untouched wilderness, the wildlife it houses and adventurous pursuits it provides. (Think whale-watching, hiking on glaciers and salmon fishing.) However, Holland America 's Westerdam is hosting a 28-day sailing that's anything but your standard cruise to the Last Frontier .

Passengers will visit the usual Alaska ports, such as Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, with scenic sailing through the Inside Passage, past Hubbard Glacier and to Glacier Bay. But they can also expect less-common stops at places like Nome, Kodiak, Anchorage (with an overnight) and Homer. Plus, about halfway through, this cruise crosses the Arctic Circle — a rite of passage for many travelers.

Details: Holland America's 28-day " Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice " cruise — one of the line's Legendary Voyages, known for longer durations and a unique mix of port calls — sails June 9-July 7, round-trip from Seattle. Inside cabins start from $5,299 per person (about $189 per person, per night).

Silversea's summertime French Polynesia cruises

Another consideration for future travel is Silversea Cruises , which is featuring its first full-summer season in French Polynesia in 2026. Silver Whisper will offer two immersive itineraries, including overnights, across 17 voyages between April and September.

Passengers can choose seven-night sailings that visit idyllic favorites like Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine and which also include overnights in Bora Bora. Or, they can cruise for twice as long by selecting a 14-night voyage that calls on the same ports as the seven-night option but with Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona and Tahuata added.

Details: Silversea's seven-night voyages begin April 6, 2026, and start from $5,650 per person ($808 per person, per night) for an ocean-view cabin.

The line's 14-night sailings start on April 20, 2026. Fares start from $10,450 per person ($747 per person, per night) for ocean-view accommodations.

New Bermuda voyages on Carnival Venezia

Beginning in May of 2025, Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Venezia will sail a series of eight four- and five-night cruises to Bermuda from New York. These itineraries are notable because the line is aiming to increase its presence there but also because the style of the ship is new to even most of the brand's most dedicated passengers.

In 2022, Carnival announced its Costa by Carnival concept after revealing it would be transferring ships from its Costa sister brand to the Carnival fleet. Now, when travelers visit the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse or check out the island's renowned pink-sand beaches during a sailing on Carnival Venezia, they can enjoy both the Italian style of the ship and Carnival's fun atmosphere and high service standards.

Details: Voyages kick off on May 22, 2025. Prices start from $429 per person ($108 per person, per night) for an inside cabin on a four-night cruise departing Sept. 18, 2025.

Disney Cruise Line's Lighthouse Point itineraries

Disney Cruise Line 's new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , a private destination on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, is set to open in June with a three-night preview sailing on June 6 aboard Disney Magic. Following the initial voyage, the line will run regular three- to seven-night voyages to Lighthouse Point on Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream.

The island will feature a dedicated family beach and water play area, an arts and culture pavilion focused on Bahamian culture, 20 family cabanas, an adults-only beach and a selection of shore excursion options.

Details: Prices for itineraries that include Lighthouse Point start from $624 per person ($208 per person, per night) for a three-night cruise on Disney Magic. The cruise departs Nov. 5 and sails from Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
