Eden is bounded to the north and south by national park and set in magnificent Twofold Bay – the third deepest natural harbour in the Southern Hemisphere. This historical town is famous for its intriguing whale history and the tale of the wild killer whales who hunted with the Yuin people, and later with European settlers. Eden is known as one of the most premier whale watching locations in Australia and each spring, thousands of humpbacks visit Eden on their way home to Antarctica.

Eden didn't get its heavenly name by mistake - take time to explore Eden's stunning beaches, secluded coves and rock pools and take a drive north or south to discover the incredible Beowa National Park . For splashing about choose between several beaches right in Eden – Aslings for surfing and rock pools, Cocora for family fun with facilities or Snug Cove with its caves. For some more natural solitude, discover Wonboyn further south, tucked between Beowa National Park and Nadgee Nature Reserve , where the lake empties into the stunning Disaster Bay.

Eden's brand-new Gravity Eden Mountain Bike Park opened in November 2023 and is set to transform Eden into a hero Australian mountain biking destination! Gravity Eden features more than 58km of premium machine-built MTB trails for a range of rider capability and skill, located in Nullica State Forest. The park also includes an asphalt pump track, dirt jump park and beginner skills loop at the main trailhead just out of Eden.

Each Spring, baleen & toothed whales migrate south for the summer. Many have calves in tow and generally spend a few days in the area resting, feeding & playing before continuing along the Humpback Highway . Whales are often spotted right in Twofold Bay . In peak season, charter operators have their choice of pods to watch within minutes of leaving Eden Wharf. The Eden Whale Festival is held in spring each year, celebrating this migration.

Historic Snug Cove is still a working port, so drive or walk down in the early morning and watch the boats return with the day’s catch. Chances are you will catch a glimpse of your dinner before it meets your plate! Charters offer daily fishing trips, as well as all weather diving from Merimbula to Green Cape. Cruise Boats offer discovery cruises on Twofold Bay during which its history is unfolded and dolphins, seals and whales may also be seen.

The days when men and killer whales worked together in Twofold Bay to hunt baleen whales are long gone and faithfully recorded in fascinating displays at the Eden Killer Whale Museum . The skeleton of Old Tom, last of the herding killer whales of Eden, is an impressive exhibit. For an impressive view over the old hunting grounds of Twofold Bay, head to  Rotary Lookout , located up the hill from Eden Wharf.

From Haycock Point in the north to historic Green Cape lighthouse in the south, Beowa National Park features rugged coastlines, vivid rock formations, pristine beaches, extensive areas of coastal heath and intriguing history. South of Eden, Boyds Tower marks the entrance to Twofold Bay and is named after the 19th century entrepreneur Ben Boyd who played an important role in the early development of the area.

Whilst Boyds Tower was never actually used as a lighthouse, it provided a handy lookout point for many years from which shore based whalers could watch for migrating whales along the coastline. Nearby, Davidson Whaling Station Historic Site stands as a reminder of the early whaling days when a pod of Killer Whales led by ‘Old Tom’ assisted the whalers in the hunt for baleen whales. To explore more of the historical sites of Twofold Bay, set out on a self-drive tour along the Killer Whale Trail , which can be undertaken as a half-day or day trip.

Boyds Tower is connected to Green Cape Lightstation by the spectacular 30km Light to Light walking track which ends at the lighthouse with its renovated Assistant Lightkeepers Cottages. The walk can be done over two nights, or in shorter half day sections.

If you’re on a South Coast road trip and looking for places to visit, here’s our personal guide for the best things to do in Eden.

Why visit Eden?

Eden is a town in the Sapphire Coast which is a stop many people do when travelling between Sydney and Melbourne. Known for it’s Killer Whale Museum, Insta-worthy rock pools and much more, it’s a stop over that could easily become your next getaway from Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra.

While Eden is known for its whale history and as one of the best whale watching spots in Australia, this guide is designed to help you plan your next trip to this coastal town.

Where is Eden?

Eden in New South Wales is located a six hour drive from Sydney and 6h30m from Melbourne making it a great half way point. It’s also a three hour drive from Canberra as well.

Best Things To Do In Eden

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the fascinating maritime history of Eden at the Eden Killer Whale Museum . Delve into the captivating stories of the legendary orcas that once helped local whalers, discover impressive displays of maritime artifacts, and gain insights into the town’s whaling heritage.

2. Go on a whale watching cruise

Join a whale watching cruise with Cat Balou and witness the awe-inspiring sight of humpback and southern right whales as they migrate along the coastline. Feel the rush of excitement as these gentle giants breach and tail-slap, providing an unforgettable whale spotting experience that will leave you in awe of nature’s grandeur.

3. Explore the Killer Whale Trail

Interested to learn more about the Killer whales in Eden? Do the self-drive Killer Whale Trail which will take you to five stops to various important places such as the Seahorse Inn, Rotary Lookout and more. 4. Visit the Insta-worthy Aslings Beach Rock Pool

When I first saw Aslings Beach Rock Pool on Instagram while researching for our South Coast trip, I couldn’t believe it’s in Australia.

This rock pool is so unique, the mesmerising rock formations honestly are worth travelling to Eden alone for.

When I visited, it was quite overcast and yet it still looked amazing (as you can see in our picture above!). You need to walk along Aslings Beach and it’s on the far right hand side. It will take you about five minutes to walk there from the main road, but it’s worth walking right up to, as it really is incredible in person. It reminds me a little of The Pinnacles , like it’s a landscape taken from Mars.

5. Be mesmerised by The Pinnacles at Ben Boyd National Park

The Pinnacles really is a sight to be seen and easily one of my highlights when I drove from Sydney to Eden NSW recently. South Coast Eden really is a special place to visit when you’re up close to The Pinnacles. As one of the top attractions in Eden, you must go and visit The Pinnacles which almost resemble the landscape in Mars.

6. Relax on the beautiful Cocora Beach

If you’re looking for the best beaches in Eden, you must check out Cocora Beach, which overlooks Twofold Bay. The flat water is perfect for those you don’t like waves, and there’s a BBQ, picnic area, and playground with toilet facilities, making it the perfect family friendly beach.

7. Swim at Nethercote Falls

If you’re looking for wild swimming holes in Sapphire Coast, check out the nearby Nethercote Falls. Surrounded by lush rainforest, these cascading falls offer a picturesque setting for a peaceful picnic or a rejuvenating dip in the refreshing waters. It’s just an easy 15 minute walk from the carpark to reach the falls, something the whole family could do together.

8. Visit the iconic Green Cape Lighthouse

You can’t visit Eden without visiting the iconic Green Cape Lighthouse. Perched atop rugged cliffs, this historic lighthouse offers panoramic views of the surrounding ocean and landscapes. Take a guided tour to learn about its fascinating history and enjoy breathtaking vistas that stretch as far as the eye can see.

9. Hike the Lake Curalo Trail

Eden definitely isn’t short of lookouts! For a sweeping view south of eden along the rugged coastline, make your way to the Disaster Bay Lookout. This vantage point offers a true sense of the untamed beauty of the region.

12. Snug Cove Wharf

Stroll along the Snug Cove Wharf and soak up the vibrant atmosphere of Eden’s bustling harbour. Watch as fishing boats unload their fresh catches, visit the local seafood market, and enjoy a delicious meal at one of the waterfront restaurants. The wharf is also a great spot to indulge in some leisurely fishing or simply take in the picturesque views.

13. Check out the Canadian Love Seat

Dive Eden offer a range of scuba diving and snorkelling in Eden as well as free-diving courses as well.

16. North of Eden Gin

Support local tourism and head over to North of Eden Gin Distillery . Located on the 12 acre Stony Creek Farm, the regional distillery is award-winning and internationally recognised! Come here for a cocktail, gin tasting or a beer or wine if gin isn’t your thing. It has exceptional views overlooking the Bega Valley which is worth coming along for. Well behaved dogs are welcome and you can bring your own picnic as well.

17. Seahorse Inn For Dinner

We actually stayed the Seahorse Inn and loved this hotel. In fact, it was one of our favourite hotels we stayed at on our South Coast road trip. Located opposite Boydtown Beach, you can come here for lunch or dinner, even if you’re not staying here. The food is good and the staff are excellent.

18. Eden Whale Festival

If you happen to visit Eden in November, don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the excitement of the Eden Whale Festival . Celebrating the annual Southern migration of humpback and southern right whales, this vibrant festival features a range of activities, including live music, art exhibitions, street parades, and whale watching tours. Eden Accommodation

Wondering where to stay in Eden? The first time we visited, we camped at a caravan park, and the second time, we stayed at the beautiful Seahorse Inn which I highly recommend. During our stay here, we left at 5:30am in the morning to race back up the coast to do a tour to Montague Island, but a few minutes after we left the hotel, I realised I left my engagement ring in the room.

One of the staff got up out of bed and came down to the hotel to let me back in. That alone is enough for me to rave about this hotel, let alone it was the nicest accommodation we stayed in during our entire South Coast trip. The beds are super comfy, the rooms are big and we loved our stay here.

• Seahorse Inn – As I said above, we loved our stay here! The room is big, the beds are so comfy and we had a great stay here. Highly recommend!
• Discovery Parks Eden – family friendly camping with cabins and villa accommodation, right next to the beach and within minutes of Eden.

Top Attractions in Eden NSW & Beautiful Ben Boyd National Park

Situated on the calm blue waters of Twofold Bay, along the aptly named Sapphire Coast, Eden makes an ideal drive stop if you’re planning a Melbourne to Sydney road trip . Even though it’s a small town, there are plenty of attractions in Eden NSW to keep you occupied.

Eden lies about halfway between Sydney and Melbourne, in far South Coast New South Wales. I stayed in the picturesque seaside town of Eden after visiting the beautiful Gippsland Lakes region in Victoria.

With stunning coastal scenery, hikes in nearby Ben Boyd National Park and brilliant whale-watching opportunities in the springtime, there are lots of things to do in Eden NSW. I regretted only pencilling in one night there!

I stayed at this budget motel , which was very basic but clean, quiet and well-equipped. Since there aren’t any hostels in Eden, it’s a great option for backpackers or those of you on a low budget. It may even be cheaper if there are two or three of you sharing a room.

This beachside holiday park in Eden has all the fantastic facilities you would expect from the Discovery Holiday Parks chain. You can either camp or hire a self-contained villa or cabin that comes with a fully equipped kitchen, verandah and option of a sea view.

Aslings Beach

The main beach in Eden is Aslings Beach, which is a beautiful long curve of sand tucked into scenic Twofold Bay.

There are plenty of amazing beaches in New South Wales , but Aslings Beach in Eden has a really tranquil feel with its calm water lapping the shore.

Lake Curalo Trail

Directly behind Aslings Beach lies beautiful Lake Curalo. Make sure you take a look, as the scenery is stunning . If you’re feeling energetic in Eden, there’s also the 3.75km Lake Curalo trail around the perimeter that you can walk or cycle. Someone even cycled past me on a unicycle when I visited!

Whales in Eden NSW

Since Twofold Bay is where the north and south currents of the Pacific Ocean collide, the waters in the area are nutrient rich, meaning Humpback whales stop and feed during their southern migration in the spring.

Whales are one of the major attractions in Eden NSW , and have played a big part in the town’s history since its whaling days. Here are some of the ways you can enjoy and learn about Eden’s whales.

Eden Killer Whale Museum

To learn about the relationship between humans and killer whales back in the days when Eden was a whaling town, pay a visit to Eden Killer Whale Museum . It overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and displays the skeleton of famous killer whale, Old Tom, along with other whaling memorabilia.

Whale Watching in Eden

The best time to spot whales in Eden is between mid-August and early November. Whale-watching vantage points include Aslings Beach, Rotary Park Lookout (see below) and Eden Killer Whale Museum, which sounds a horn when whales are in sight.

You could also coincide your visit with the Eden Whale Festival , which has plenty of fun and entertainment for all ages!

Whale Watching Cruise

If you want to make a day of it, a few companies offer whale-watching tours from Eden.

Eden Lookout & Rotary Walk

For a fantastic view of Twofold Bay, visit the headland just south of Eden town, where you’ll find Rotary Park, which has barbecues, toilets and a map of the easy Rotary Walk.

Along the walk you’ll pass the lookout point below, a great spot for whale watching over Twofold Bay.

Snug Cove Wharf

On the western side of Middle Head you’ll find Snug Cove, a picturesque working port where fishing trawlers leave from daily.

If you want lunch or coffee, there are a couple of cafes at Snug Cove wharf , as well as the Sapphire Coast Discovery Marine Centre .

Ben Boyd National Park

Another one of the many scenic attractions in Eden is picturesque Ben Boyd National Park, which is split into two sections, one north and one south of the town.

To the south, you can visit Boyd’s Tower , yet another great lookout point for whales. I decided to check out the northern section of Ben Boyd National Park, which has the unusual rust-coloured Pinnacles formation, as well as a stunning beach at Haycock Point.

The Pinnacles Walk

Drive about ten minutes north of Eden, and you’ll see the sign for Ben Boyd National Park. Turn onto Haycock Road, then take the first turn-off to the car park at the start of the Pinnacles Loop Walk.

It’s only 600m to walk to the Pinnacles lookout, where you can see the colourful Pinnacles erosion feature below! There’s also a 1km loop track.

In the other direction, it’s only 325m to the lookout over stunning Pinnacles Beach.

Haycock Point

Continue along forested Haycock Point Road and you’ll come to the picnic area at Haycock Point.

From the picnic area you can easily walk down to Long Beach, or go on a longer walk to Haycock Point or Barmouth Beach (5km return).

Mallacoota, Victoria

About an hour’s drive south of Eden, surrounded by Croajingolong National Park , is the pretty holiday town of Mallacoota in Victoria. If you’re heading to or from Melbourne, it makes a scenic drive stop before Eden.

From the town centre, head to Panoramic Drive (running along the water’s edge parallel to Allan Drive) to look across beautiful Mallacoota Inlet.

Make sure you look down on the rocks as you just might spot a sunbathing sea lion! I wouldn’t have seen this one if someone hadn’t pointed him out!

Next, follow Bastion Point Road to Bastion Point, where you can take the steps down to the beautiful beach and explore the mouth of the inlet.

Thanks for sharing this information about the Sapphire Coast. Admittedly when it came to planning for our South Coast NSW road trip, we couldn’t find a lot of information on the Sapphire Coast. Your guides have been very helpful.

In regards to the Ben Boyd National Park, we really enjoyed Bittangabee Bay. At the bay, there is a campground and a picnic area. We found it a great place for lunch and a cup of tea. The bay itself is quite small. But it’s packed with beauty. We walked along the beach there. It was very relaxing.

This area is home to some of the most magnificent scenery, and visitors to our area will find much to delight them. The dictionary definition of Eden is ‘delightful abode’ and ‘state of supreme happiness.’ We think that is a very apt description of our community. Come, join us and explore this region. Meet the people, enjoy our beaches and walk in the footsteps of those who went before. Steep yourself in the history and the panorama that we are grateful to call home.

 Eden is the perfect location for a truly Wonderfully Wild escape. Pack your bags, jump in the car and head to the Sapphire Coast.

Follow our three day itinerary for a Wonderfully Wild weekend!

DAY ONE [Friday]: Travel | Geological Marvels | Snug Cove | Indigenous Culture

Wake up early and hit the road for the easy 3 – 3.5 hour drive from Canberra, down Brown Mountain headed for the coast. Be like the locals and take the back roads through Candelo and Wolumla to enjoy beautiful country scenery passing dairy farms that provide milk for the nearby Bega Cheese Factory . You will start to smell the salty fresh air just north of Eden where the first introduction to the stunning Beowa National Park will invite you in. Take a short detour down the Haycock Road turn off to enter the northern section of the park and travel the unsealed road to the famous Pinnacles , a favourite with geologists and photographers alike. A short 1km loop track through the bush awaits, providing picturesque views of Pinnacles Beach from the cliff edge (look for dolphins surfing the waves) before coming across three platforms to give you sweeping views of this 65 million year old erosion feature in striking colours of white and orange. By now you’ve worked up a hunger so head into Eden and straight to Snug Cove for some harbourside seafood that doesn’t get any fresher. Eden local legend Sepa will be at South Coast Fish Supplies preparing delicious sashimi trays as well as prawn/oyster trays, or you can pop in and see Luke at the Eden Smokehouse for a tasting tray of smoked local mussels, abalone and prawns – that’s if you can go past traditional fish and chips (or maybe enjoy it all!). With full bellies a wander along the wharves is in order where you can watch the fishermen unloading their catch or mending their nets, some who have been doing it for generations. Drop by the Eden Visitor Information Centre housed within the stunning award winning new building at the wharf, marvel at the recycled timbers used in its construction, chat to the local volunteers, grab a map and brochures on the national park and trails and pick up some local produce to take home from Disaster Bay Chillies and Shadrack Creek. Then take the short five minute drive around to the next cove where you can park your car at Cocora Beach , grab your water bottles and head off on the Bundian Way Story Trail . This 2km walk traces the coastline providing fabulous views from platforms and lookouts with storyboards along the way to learn about Eden’s rich indigenous cultural heritage. Featuring words from the local Thaua language, such as katungal (belong to the saltwater), beowa (orca) and gadu (the ocean), learn the story of how for thousands of years local tribal groups traversed the Bundian Way from Turemulerrer (Twofold Bay) to the mountain ranges of Targangal (Kosciuszko). There’s nothing better than a dip in the salt water after a hike, so take the quick five minute drive to Aslings Beach , take off your shoes and feel the sand between your toes as you wander down to the ocean pool tucked into a stunning pink and white cliff face at the southern end of the beach. After a busy active day, it is time for relaxation and rejuvenation so head up to the town’s main street where you cannot miss the sight of Eden’s ‘grand old dame’ – the Hotel Australasia . Here you can let your dreams set sail in the stunning boutique hotel that was originally built in 1904 and was recently reopened after an incredible restoration. Check in to one of only eight luxuriously appointed heritage rooms to enjoy the fluffy white robes, a soak in the claw foot bathtub and a predinner drink on the balcony before heading downstairs to Pikes Bistro for a relaxed dinner featuring fresh local produce and regional beverages.

DAY TWO [Saturday]: Humpback Highway | History Abounds | Coastal Wilderness

After enjoying breakfast on your hotel room balcony, head down to Snug Cove to board the Cat Balou for a three hour morning whale watching adventure (seasonal). Eden has its own kind of highway – the Humpback Highway which more than 40,000 whales now travel every spring on their annual migration back to Antarctica. Enjoy comfortable cruising onboard the purpose built catamaran that has ample viewing areas and skilled and knowledgeable crew. During the spring whale watching season you can sometimes spot the first whale before even leaving Twofold Bay and whale sightings are guaranteed during September and October. The experience of watching these gentle majestic giants of the sea breach, tail and pec slap, and maybe even mug the boat, will stay with you forever.

Next on the list is Eden’s famous Killer Whale Trail , a self drive tour that takes you back in time to when boats were made of wood and men were made of steel. Take in views from Rotary Park Lookout before heading to the Eden Killer Whale Museum to learn the incredible story of Old Tom and the Killers of Eden . From here the trail takes you south around the bay to the historic Seahorse Inn perched on Beermuna Beach . It is easy to imagine here on this beach the local Thaua people performing rituals and dances to call in their brothers the beowa (orca), and envisage Ben Boyd’s later dream to build an empire here to rival Sydney. Now all that remains is the beautifully restored Inn where you can enjoy lunch on the lawns whilst soaking up the views back over to the Eden township. Don’t miss the gallery located inside the Inn where local Eden artisans have their work displayed and available for purchase.

The next stop on the trail is the historic Davidson Whaling Station where you will find Loch Garra the old homestead that was home to generations of the whaling family as well the remains of the try works down on the beach. The site, which was home to Australia’s longest operating shore-based whaling station, is now a place of quiet and natural beauty. From here venture a little further along Edrom Road to Boyds Tower , the final stop on the Killer Whale Trail. Stroll along the newly refurbished walkways to enjoy stunning views of the coastline from this southern extremity of Twofold Bay where Eden’s red Devonian rock meets the sea. Go inside the sandstone tower which was originally built to be a lighthouse but never lit, and keep your eyes peeled for the tell-tale blow of the passing Humpback Whales.

Now it’s time for adventure as you head into the deepest parts of Eden’s coastal wilderness, down the unsealed roads of the southern part of Beowa National Park for one of this area’s most stunning hidden secret coves – Bittangabee Bay . Take a dip in the crystal clear waters or just soak up the pure tranquil beauty of this secluded, sheltered spot which is a rewarding stop for those that are hiking the 32km Light to Light Walk through the park. Be on the lookout for some of the locals – large lace monitors (tree goannas) and lyrebirds frequent the area. From here it’s a short drive to Green Cape Lighthouse where you can enjoy rugged coastal views in a wild and windy setting as you admire the southernmost lighthouse in the state. Mind your step for the families of wombats that live here as you wander down the path to the viewing platform on the rocky point. From here you can view Humpback Whales passing (seasonal) as well as the colony of seals that live off the point, before taking a short walk to the Ly-ee-Moon Cemetery to learn the sad tale of the ship that struck tragedy beneath the lighthouse in 1886. On the road out pull off at the Disaster Bay Lookout for jaw dropping views of the coastline south towards the remote Nadgee Wilderness taking in Bay Cliff and Greenglades.

After a full day of exploring and a freshen up in the hotel room, head over the road to enjoy the sunset over Balawan (Mount Imlay) from Florabel Terrace whilst enjoying tapas and cocktails.

DAY THREE [Sunday]: An Ocean to Plate Adventure | Local Brews | Travel

After sad farewells to the luxury of the boutique Hotel Australasia grab some croissants and Ona coffee (to go) from Sprout Café , just near the hotel, before taking the short 15 minute drive north to join Navigate Expeditions   on a guided kayak trip to remember. Starting at the stunning Pambula River Mouth , take in the crystal clear vibrant turquoise water and beautiful natural surroundings of the tour which is perfect for anyone, regardless of kayaking experience. Expert guides will show you the ropes, and as you paddle up the river, they will point out some of the wildlife and natural features of the Beowa National Park . At Broadwater Oysters , an award-winning Sydney Rock Oyster farm, the team will discuss why oysters are so precious, how they grow, and how the flavours change with the seasons, as well as the best way for handling, storing, and opening (shucking) oysters.

Before heading home drop by Oaklands ,  a large complex you can’t miss that sits just off the highway and looks just like a huge American style barn. Oaklands is home to a café, garden nursery, gift shop, art gallery, chocolatier and Longstocking Brewery . The brewery, the first craft brewery on the Sapphire Coast, is run by local husband and wife team Pete and Joey and has been operating for more than seven years. Sample some of the impressive 16 different beers made on site with a tasting paddle, perfectly matched with a delicious lunch from the cafe. Grab a six pack of cans or a squealer from the brewery to take home, along with some delicate hand made chocolate delights from Waratah Chocolate and some local produce from the garden shop.

The time has then come to leave the Sapphire Coast, but with a boot full of goodies, a belly full of good food, and a rested mind, it will have certainly been a Wonderfully Wild Weekend.

Cruise to Eden

The town of Eden, on the sparkling Sapphire Coast, is nestled amongst beautiful national parks and rugged coastline, with sandy beaches, azure-coloured sea and stunning walking tracks. Its picturesque harbour, Twofold Bay, is the third-deepest natural harbour in the world and makes for a spectacular stop on the far South Coast.

There’s plenty to do in Eden, including bushwalking, deep-sea fishing, kayaking, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and snorkelling. Once a whaling centre, it’s now one of the best whale watching spots in Australia during the annual migration. Tourists flock to Eden to catch a glimpse of the pods migrating south every Spring.

The wharf at Eden was recently extended and can now welcome larger vessels, with passengers disembarking straight onto the dock. Some very large ships still need to anchor in Twofold Bay and bring passengers to shore in tender boats. The terminal is close to the centre of town and all the main attractions are within easy walking distance.

Experience tourism at the centre of visitor economy growth strategy

NSW is leading Australia's post-pandemic visitor economy rebound, surpassing $50 billion in visitor expenditure for the first time in history in the year ending December 2023. This record-breaking contribution from both domestic and international visitors positions NSW as a leader in Australia's post-pandemic visitor economy rebound.

Despite the devastating impacts of COVID-19, visitor expenditure had a compound annual growth rate of 6.4% over the last ten years. The NSW Government has ambitious plans to drive that economic growth to even greater heights. To unlock our state’s full potential, the Visitor Economy Strategy 2030 is being reviewed and evolving to showcase the best of NSW to the world by focussing on the diverse experiences on offer for visitors. The Governments new tourism strategy seeks to improve cultural experiences for tourists while also expanding visitation to western Sydney and Regional NSW. The impending opening of Western Sydney International and Newcastle International Airports represents further potential for growth in the sector. The review of the NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2030 presents a pivotal opportunity to shape the future of the visitor economy in NSW. The strategy review will seek to formalise the NSW Government’s focus on experience tourism and ensure that the state’s approach to tourism, the NSW Government’s Arts, Culture and Creative Industries Policy (Creative Communities), the night-time economy agenda and the regulatory environments that underpin them, are in lockstep. Destination NSW is inviting visitor economy stakeholders from across the state to contribute their insights and expertise. Individuals and organisations are invited to join the conversation and share their perspectives by submitting written submissions online via Have Your Say which will be available in late April. The NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2030 was launched in 2021 and included a commitment to review it after three years. Minister for Jobs and Tourism John Graham said: “NSW has recently achieved a historic milestone, surpassing $50 billion in visitor expenditure for the first time ever. The visitor economy is going from strength to strength. With the looming opening of the Western Sydney International and Newcastle International Airports, it is a perfect time to reassess the opportunities in the sector. "Three years on from the development of the strategy, not only does the tourism context in NSW look different, so does the policy direction of the new government. “An experience tourism focus means thinking about not just bringing people here, but about what they do when they arrive and encouraging them to come back over and over again. Culturally-rich and vibrant communities are what keep people in NSW but they’re also what bring people here.”
