Eric Clapton celebrated his 79th birthday on March 30.

To ring in the occasion, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer added a handful of shows with special guest Jimmie Vaughan to his 2024 tour calendar.

While more dates may be announced, the guitar legends officially announced they’ll perform in Mexico City (Oct. 3), San Diego (Oct. 8), Thousand Palms (Oct. 10) and Los Angeles (Oct. 12).

Prior to the North American leg of the tour, Slowhand is slated to shred in Great Britain from May 9-18.

If the tour is anything like last year’s, Clapton will likely alternate between electric and acoustic sections for each show.

For fans that can’t wait to hear Clapton classics like “After Midnight,” “I Shot The Sheriff,” “Layla” and so many more live, tickets can be found for all seven gigs as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 5, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Jimmie Vaughan is a guitar legend in his own right as well.

Originally from Austin, TX, Vaughan is known for operatic blues rock that he’s been playing since the late ’60s when his band opened for Jimi Hendrix.

In the seven decades since, he’s released 18 albums with The Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Vaughan Brothers (with the late Stevie Ray), and as a solo artist.

In November 2020, Clapton released an anti-masking and lockdown song called “Stand and Deliver” with Van Morrison.

Eight months later, he claimed that he would “not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience present” in regard to vaccinations.

Clapton ended up canceling a handful of concerts after receiving a positive COVID-19 diagnosis in March 2022.

Eric Clapton was awesome! My wife and I are big concert goers and this was one of the best we have seen. His voice is spot on, and he is the best slow guitarist of all times and you can feel the emotion it in his music. We would pay to see him again.

EC is fantastic, especially live. I’ve followed him for 50 years & seen him so many times that I’ve probably paid for one of his Ferraris or at least the 4 wheels & several Armani suits! At £200 a ticket, plus travel to London & the cost of accommodation, I decided I couldn’t afford or justify the outlay this time. I’m sad that only wealthy people can afford the prices & the less well off lose out. Hope everyone had a great time, the set list was amazing!

I was raised on the songs of Eric Clapton as he is my Dad's favorite musician. The first real song (not a children's song) that I knew all the words to was Wonderful. I knew it forwards and backwards by age 2. My favorite song at age 6 was a toss up between PROMISES and LAY DOWN SALLY.

In Sept 2017 I surprised my Dad and took him to see Eric play at MSG. The show was just a couple weeks from both of our birthdays. I never thought I'd get to see him play live and I'm so grateful that I did. Watching Eric Clapton play was the greatest birthday gift I could think of. He is so natural and calm that it seems he's not even trying. Like the guitar is part of his body. If I could re-live that night, I would. Probably a couple times a month. At the end of the concert, my Dad and I hugged as we literally wiped tears of joys from our eyes. It was a magical night of music and we were so fortunate to be able to enjoy it together. Clapton is truly a master and I will see him again, every chance I have, no matter the cost.

The legendary singer and guitarist Eric Clapton (78) will continue on the road in 2024 but until now only a few shows were announced. So far, he won’t be playing in the United States or Canada in 2024 since he already did a North American tour in 2023 and even conducted a new edition of his famous Crossroads Guitar Festival which happened in Los Angeles. There still no information if that festival will happen again in the United States in 2024.

In 2024, the musician has scheduled concerts only in England (With a small residency at the Royal Albert Hall), Ireland and France. His only scheduled shows outside Europe are in Brazil, where he will be playing in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Curitiba.

For a few years already Clapton has been performing live only a few times during the year not doing long tours anymore.

Eric Clapton Expands 2024 Tour

Eric Clapton has announced the first U.S. dates of his 2024 tour calendar. On April 1, he announced three concerts, all in California, with special guest Jimmie Vaughan. It followed the news three days’ earlier of his headlining concert for the annual Lucca (Italy) Summer Festival. That June 2 show follows a spring tour—that features special guest Gary Clark Jr.—in the U.K. and Ireland (revealed last June 6) and concerts in France (that were announced on Nov. 13). Other shows on his schedule include many dates in South America and Mexico in September. Tickets for the October shows in California go on sale April 5 at 10 a.m. local time here .

Clapton, who turned 79 on March 30, had a fairly busy 2023 schedule with a residency at the Budokan in Tokyo, Japan in April, a pair of tribute concerts that he organized for Jeff Beck that were held on May 22-23 at London’s Royal Albert Hall, along with five U.S. concerts and his Crossroads Guitar Festival—his first since 2019—in September 2023. Tickets for the Italy concert go on sale April 5 here ; most of the other shows are available here . As of April 1, he has 23 dates scheduled in 2024.

2023 marked Clapton’s 60th year as a professional musician. The legendary guitarist joined The Yardbirds in 1963 and the following years saw him join John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, and Derek and the Dominos along with a solo career spanning five decades.

Clapton is frequently accompanied by his long-running concert band, including Nathan East (bass),  Chris Stainton (keyboards), Paul Carrack (keys and backing vocals), Doyle Bramhall II (guitar), Sonny Emory (drums), and Sharon White and Katie Kissoon (backing vocalists). Clapton’s frequent opening act, Jimmie Vaughan, again did the honors at the North American concerts in September.

After years of eschewing tours for clusters of individual shows, Clapton also had a busy 2022 with a European tour during the spring and a U.S. tour in September.

On June 23, 2023, Clapton’s record-setting concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 1990 and 1991 were released in a variety of expanded editions , The Definitive 24 Nights .

‘Steppenwolf Live’: Rock Heroes Take One More Top Ten Album Trip

Clapton was most recently seen at the Royal Albert Hall in May, when he performed at a pair of shows held to pay tribute to fellow guitar legend Jeff Beck, who died in January . Clapton, who organized the show alongside Beck’s widow Sandra, was joined onstage by Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Billy Gibbons, Johnny Depp, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, Joss Stone, Imelda May, John McLaughlin, Gary Clarke Jr., Doyle Bramhall and Robert Randolph.

Back in March, Clapton also announced a new set of North American shows to take place in September . The guitar giant will be supported on the shows by respected blues and R&B mainstay Jimmie Vaughan, a frequent companion on recent itineraries.

A few weeks later, Clapton then unveiled the stellar bill for the seventh edition of his Crossroads Guitar Festival , which will include Sheryl Crow , ZZ Top, Santana, Vince Gill , Robbie Robertson, Stephen Stills, and Buddy Guy among others. The event will take place on September 23 and 24 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

As is customary, the event will raise funds for Crossroads Centre, the substance abuse rehab center that Clapton co-founded in 1998 in Antigua. Since its inception in 1999, at Madison Square Garden in New York, the Crossroads Festival has taken place on average every 3-5 years, most recently in 2019, at the American Airlines Center in Denver.

Eric Clapton has announced several new tour dates for 2024, and this time, fans outside of London will get a chance to catch the guitarist live on stage.

Clapton’s limited run of UK and Ireland shows will see him playing a total of six dates, kicking off first at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on 9 May next year.

The musician will also be making stops in Liverpool, Birmingham, and Dublin, before wrapping up the tour with a two-night show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The upcoming tour also marks the first time the former Yardbirds rocker is playing a solo gig outside of London since 2015, so grab your tickets early.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, 9 June at 10am, online and by phone from venue box offices (except Newcastle, which is online only) and bookingsdirect.com . There will be no counter sales.

Meanwhile, tickets for Dublin will be available at ticketmaster.ie .

Last month, Clapton released a cover of Moon River , featuring the late guitar legend Jeff Beck . The track – originally performed by Audrey Hepburn in the iconic 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s — was recorded not long before Beck passed away earlier this year .

Back in April, it was announced that Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival would be returning for the first time after a 3-year hiatus , with a star-studded lineup of more than 40 artists.

The bill for the festival – set to take place on 23 and 24 September at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles – features Joe Bonamassa, ZZ Top, Gary Clark Jr., H.E.R., Vince Gill, Buddy Guy, Santana, and Clapton himself, to name a mere few.

The legendary guitarist and musician took to social media earlier this week (June 6) to announce the tour, which will see him perform six shows across the UK and Ireland in May 2024.

Over the course of his tour, Clapton will perform at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena, Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena, the 3Arena in Dublin, and three shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London. While only two Royal Albert shows have been listed on social media, a third date has been confirmed via Clapton’s official website.

In a follow-up tweet, Clapton confirmed that tickets to the 2023 UK and Ireland tour go on sale today (June 9) at 10am local time. Tickets to the Newcastle, Dublin and London dates can be purchased on Ticketmaster , while passes the other shows will be available on See Tickets .

Eric Clapton most recently performed at the Royal Albert Hall in May, albeit for two back-to-back tribute concerts to the late Jeff Beck . Metallica ‘s Kirk Hammett,  Rod Stewart ,  Johnny Depp  and  Aerosmith ‘s Joe Perry were among the other musicians who came performed at the tribute concerts.

Eric Clapton , the only musician inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame three times, will perform a Southern California mini-tour in October. These will be his only U.S. concert dates for the remainder of 2024.

Following a series of September concerts in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, the English guitar legend and his band will kick off their three-city California visit with an Oct. 8 concert at Pechanga Arena San Diego. It will be followed by an Oct. 10 show at Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs and an Oct. 12 performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Ticket information appears below.

Clapton’s Oct. 8 concert will feature an opening set by fellow guitarist and singer Jimmie Vaughan. The show will mark Clapton’s first San Diego performance since a 2007 concert at what was then known as iPayOne Center and is now Pechanga Arena.

That 2007 concert was recorded for Clapton’s double album, “Live in San Diego.” Clapton’s bassist, then and now, is Nathan East.

“Live in San Diego” includes several songs featuring singer-songwriter J.J. Cale, who died in 2013. A longtime northern San Diego County resident, Cale was a major influence on Clapton, with whom he recorded the Grammy Award-winning 2006 album, “The Road to Escondido,” on which East is also featured.

Pechanga Arena opened in 1966 as the San Diego Sports Arena. Clapton’s 1968 concert at the same venue with Cream, his pioneering blues-rock power trio. The group’s nine-song performance is documented on the four-CD set, “Cream — Goodbye Tour Live 1968,” which was released in 2020.

Tickets for Clapton’s October concerts in San Diego, Los Angeles and Palm Springs go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at axs.com . Ticket prices for the San Diego show range from $69.50 to $395.50, plus service fees. The Pechanga Arena box office does not open until 11 a.m. Friday, an hour after tickets go on sale online.

• Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band Announce Fall 2024 Tour Dates

The Beatles’ signature backbeat, Ringo Starr, will take his All Starr Band on the road this fall. Steve Lukather, Edgar Winter, Colin Hay, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart, and Gregg Bissonette, and the group’s namesake will participate in 12 stops across the U.S. and into Canada, beginning on Sept. 12 at The Astro Amphitheater in Omaha, Neb. 

After night one, the band will keep busy, pushing through the country and appearing at the Performing Arts Pavillion at The Commons New Lenox, Ill., on Sept. 14. This will be followed by an evening in Kettering, Ohio, at Fraze Pavilion. After a night of rest, the group will resume its schedule, picking up their next concert at The Anthem in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 17.

On the East Coast, Starr and his band will continue along the Atlantic, playing at Chevalier Theatre in Medford, Mass., on Sept. 18, prior to an ensuing stand at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Next, on Sept. 22, the group will take its live show to Fallsview Casino Resort Niagara Falls, Ontario. 

The group’s final fall appearances will occur on Sept 24, with a show slated for TD Pavilion at The Mann in Philadelphia and a final New York City appearance on Sept. 25 at Radio City Music Hall. Starr’s newly added dates come after he and his band’s spring tour, which primarily focuses on Western appearances, with stops in California and a multi-night spread in Las Vegas, as well as a slate of Mexico dates.

Dickey Betts , the Allman Brothers Band ‘s Grammy-winning co-founding guitarist, singer and songwriter behind such classics as “Ramblin’ Man,” “Blue Sky” and “Jessica,” died today of cancer at his home in Osprey, FL. He was 80.

His family posted the news on social media.

“Dickey was larger than life, and his loss will be felt world-wide,” the family wrote on Instagram . “At this difficult time, the family asks for prayers and respect for their privacy in the coming days. More information will be forthcoming at the appropriate time.”

Mixing a stew of influences with virtuoso musicianship including two-guitar harmony and long, drawn-out jams, their legendary live shows inspired generations of musicians from other Southern bands including Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot to jam groups like Phish. The group scored eight career Grammy nominations spanning 1980-2004 and won Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1996 for a live recording of Betts’ “Jessica” from the album  An Evening with the Allman Brothers Band: 2nd Set .

The Allman Brothers released their eponymous debut LP in 1970, but it barely dented the Billboard 200 album chart despite featuring such eventual classics as “Dreams,” “Whipping Post” and “Trouble No More.” Idlewild South arrived nine months later and cemented the group as a commercial force while their concerts begat legend. The disc spawned the Allmans’ first charting single, the Betts-penned “Revival,” and included such future staples of classic rock radio as “Midnight Rider,” “Statesboro Blues” and Betts’ instrumental “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.”

The album reached the Top 40, but the group’s next disc would be a stone classic.

Future reissues of At Fillmore East would include all tracks and clock in at more than two hours, with the six-CD 2014 box set The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings running more than six hours.

The hard-rocking, hard-living group was firmly established as rock royalty when tragedy struck. Group leader Duane Allman, who also had gained fame as the guitarist opposite Eric Clapton on “Layla,” died in a motorcycle accident in October 1971 at 24. The group would dedicate its next album to their fallen bandmate, and it changed everything.

Eat a Peach, a two-disc mix of studio and live tracks, streeted in February 1972, cracked the Top 5 and went platinum with such gems as “One Way Out,” “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More,” “Melissa” and the Betts-penned “Blue Sky.” It also featured the side-long “Mountain Jam,” a leftover from the Fillmore East shows.

But fate intervened again that October when Oakley was killed in a motorcycle crash in Macon, GA, just blocks from where Duane Allman died a year earlier.

The band decided to carry on, and its next album would become a monster.

Betts became the leader of The Allman Brothers Band, and Brothers and Sisters arrived in August, with contributions from the late Oakley. Betts wrote and sang lead on its first single, “Ramblin’ Man,” which was an out-of-the-box radio smash. Featuring Betts’ instantly recognizable, country-flecked riff, it soared to No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 — kept from the top spot by the Rolling Stones’ “Angie” — and drove Brothers and Sisters to a five-week run atop the album chart.

“I guess the song is more or less autobiographical,” Betts told  Rolling Stone  of “Ramblin’ Man” in 1975. “Not right down to the point, but overall it’s a pretty true song.”

Facing numerous trials from addiction, health woes and heartbreak over the years, the group wouldn’t come close to replicating the pop success of “Ramblin’ Man” or Brothers and Sisters but continued to record hit albums — 1975’s Win, Lose or Draw reached No. 5 — and tour hard. The Allmans took a hiatus in the mid-’70s, during which a plane crash decimated Lynyrd Skynyrd and Betts released the album Dickey Betts & Great Southern, but returned in 1979 with its sixth studio set Enlightened Rogues . It featured Betts’ “Crazy Love,” which would become the band’s second-biggest pop hit, cracking Billboard’s Top 30.

As Southern rock reached its commercial peak, the Allmans signed with Clive Davis’ Arista Records, and their first album for the label was Reach for the Sky in 1980, featuring Betts’ minor pop hit “Angeline” and making the Top 30. Brothers of the Road arrived the following year, led by the Betts tune “Straight from the Year,” a Top 40 pop single that fueled the LP into the Top 50.

The band then moved to Epic Records, which had seen commercial success with Gainesville’s Molly Hatchet. The Allman Brothers would make their half-dozen albums for the label, led by 1990’s Seven Turns, which featured new guitarist Warren Haynes. All but the last of the group’s Sony discs made the Top 100. 1994’s Where It All Begins went gold.

During that time, Betts was replaced on multiple concert dates, and he would play his last show with the band in 2000. He was replaced by guitar prodigy Derek Trucks, nephew of founding drummer Butch Trucks.

Betts went on to work on solo and side projects including the Dickey Betts Band before having a mild stroke and surgery in 2018. His work with the Allman Brothers continues to be popular to this day, with songs blanketing classic rock radio. Betts also was name-checked in the Charlie Daniels Band’s 1975 Southern rock celebration track “The South’s Gonna Do It”: “Now people down in Georgia come from near and far/To hear Richard Betts pickin’ on that red guitar.”

He is survived by his fifth wife, Donna, who he married in 1989, and their children Kimberly, Christy, Jessica and Duane.
