The Best Walking Tours in Florence
Florence is one of the most popular cities in Italy . Its stunning Renaissance architecture gives it an iconic look, and the abundance of art could keep any traveler busy for weeks. There’s the Galleria de Uffizi, which holds some of the world’s most important Renaissance pieces; Michelangelo’s David , one of the most recognizable works in the world; and the towering Duomo, a Gothic cathedral and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
To see it all and learn about this beautiful destination, I always like to take a walking tour (or three!) while I’m here. I think walking tours are a great way to learn about a place and see some non-touristy sites.
And Florence has a lot of them! From introductory free tours to in-depth history and food tours, here’s my list of the best walking tours in Florence.
Best Overall Tour
Take Walks is my go-to tour company in Italy, offering access to places that no other gets and featuring incredibly knowledgeable guides. I always have fun and learn a ton on these tours. I can’t recommend them enough.
Their VIP David & Duomo tour offers exclusive access before or after all the other tours, providing a unique, skip-the-line experience without the crowds. They also have a Best of Florence tour that covers all the city’s highlights over a fun and educational three hours.

This is the best (and most popular) free tour in town. Its main offering is a solid introduction to Florence lasting two hours and covering all the highlights. It’s a great way to kick-start your trip if you’re on a budget.
For something more unique, there’s also a free tour that focuses on the city’s darker side, including some of the more eerie myths and legends from the past. Just remember to tip your guide at the end!
While those may be the best free and paid tours in town, Florence as a lot more to offer. Here are four other insightful and educational tours:
1. Devour Food Tours
Devour is my favorite food tour company. Its offerings are always super informative and delicious. In Florence, Devour runs a few different ones, so there’s something for everyone.
If you love wine like I do, the Oltrarno at Sunset tour is the best choice for you. An evening tour, it lasts over three hours and includes stops at five family-run businesses, where you’ll sample aperitivi, dinner (including a taste of the famed Florentine steak), and desserts.
Devour also runs a filling 3.5-hour Tastes and Traditions tour that includes a visit to Sant’Ambrogio Market, as well as wine, espresso, and some unforgettable eats. On both tours, you’ll end up full and learn a ton.
Tours start at 79 EUR.
2. Italy Pass Tours
If you want to learn more about the Duomo, the massive cathedral that pokes up from the picturesque skyline, Italy Pass Tours runs an excellent short tour that serves as the perfect primer. You’ll get skip-the-line access and be able to tour the beautiful cathedral while learning about its history and how it intertwines with the famous Medici family that helped put Florence on the map. It’s an educational, affordable tour that goes into more detail than the standard free one, without being too long or overly academic.
Tours start at 13 EUR.
3. Tours and Tours
If you want to explore the home of some of the world’s best Renaissance art, Tours and Tours runs a 90-minute skip-the-line Uffizi Gallery tour . You’ll get to marvel at world-famous works by masters like Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci while avoiding the massive lines. They also run a short but insightful skip-the-line tour of Brunelleschi’s Dome . It’s a masterwork of engineering and offers amazing views over the city.
Tours start at 41 EUR.
4. Global Experiences
If you want to get off the beaten path and learn about Florence’s dark side, Global Experiences runs a bar crawl/ghost tour , which lasts three hours and takes you around town, showing you the sights while bouncing between cool bars. It also illuminates some of the more scandalous stories from the past, as well as darker and more mysterious tales. Overall, it’s a fun tour to take after a day of seeing the highlights.
The company also runs a more traditional food tour on which you’ll get to sample traditional Florentine steak, Tuscan meatballs, almond biscotti, gelato, and more!
Tours start at 60 EUR.
Florence is one of the most popular cities in Europe. It’s a gorgeous, energetic place that is bursting at the seams with amazing museums and galleries, UNESCO-worthy sights, and tons of history. By taking one of the walking tours above, you’ll be sure to have a fun, informative, and authentic visit to this Italian metropolis.

This very scenic section of the Italian Riviera is characterized by small sandy beaches among the rocks, high cliffs, caves and tiny bays. What makes it so unique are the five appealing villages with their pastel houses stacked up the cliff face like an array of colorfully wrapped presents. They are connected to each other only by hiking trails, trains and an occasional boat. You’ll have the opportunity to explore three of these delightful hamlets on this tour.
Manarola is the quintessential Italian seaside town, and here you’ll be free to wander on your own, perhaps stopping by the 14th century church or the pleasant beach. Then board a motorboat for a scenic cruise weather permitting, that will take you to the charming fishing village of Vernazza, crowned by a castle. The colorful buildings of this little gem cluster around a small cove.
Monterosso is said to be one of the most picturesque towns in Italy, and is considered a Cinque Terre “don’t miss.” After an introduction by your guide, you’ll have free time to explore the tiny shops and have lunch on your own. Great day in Florence and Pisa
When our cruise ship stopped in Livorno, we were met at the port by our driver and taken in a comfortable black Mercedes directly to Florence. Our driver was very professional and personable and had bottles of water for each of us. In Florence we met our tour guide, Raffaela. We all loved Rafaella! She is a lovely person who was raised in Italy and speaks perfect English (with a Boston accent). Rafaella is very professional and extremely knowledgeable in art, history, culture, government, and pretty much everything else. She seems to know all the locals in the city and it was a joy to watch her interact with everyone; her connections also helped us avoid lines and waits in various locations. We toured much of the city walking through narrow alleys and seeing beautiful architecture, multiple public squares (Piazza della Signoria and Piazza della Repubblica), cathedrals (Basilica di Santa Croce, the Duomo, the Baptistery, Orsanmichele), Michelangelo’s David (at the Galleria dell'Accademia), the Ponte Vecchio, and many other memorable sights. In Pisa we visited the Piazza del Duomo where we viewed the Cattedrale di Pisa and Leaning Tower from the outside. Rafaella and our driver dropped us off back at the ship where we all said goodbye. It was a wonderful day and a wonderful tour. Thank you LivItaly and Rafaella!

Pugh’s video also included a glimpse of a crewmember’s chair, and eagle-eyed fans are now also curious why the Thunderbolts title appears printed with an asterisk.
The Thunderbolts Marvel comics tell the tangled story of a group of villains, though plot details of the movie adaptation remain scarce. Earlier reports included new roles for Steven Yeun and Ayo Edebiri, in addition to returning Marvel stars Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Harbour and Olga Kurylenko, but both Yeun and Edebiri exited the project earlier this year. Top Gun: Maverick ‘s Lewis Pullman and Drive Away Dolls star Geraldine Viswanathan replaced the two actors.
The film’s production was delayed by last summer’s writers and actors strikes, and is currently set for release on July 25, 2025.

Florence Pugh Tours Thunderbolts Set in Behind-the-Scenes Video
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
After numerous delays, Thunderbolts is finally in production, with filming underway in Atlanta. Florence Pugh , who stars as Yelena Belova, shared a behind-the-scenes video of the Thunderbolts set.
“Hey guys, how are you doing? I know I’ve dropped off for a little bit, but that’s partially because I was whisked off to Atlanta to shoot a movie that I’m not really supposed to talk about,” Pugh said in the video posted to her Instagram . “But I can show you things, sneakily, as long as you don’t tell anyone… I can show you a sneak peek of the set. They’re shooting. I’ll be quiet now.”
Pugh walks around the set while suited up in her Yelena costume. Pugh continues the walk-and-talk by showcasing some of the sets being built. The Oscar-nominated actress even runs into director Jake Schreier .
“I don’t even think you’re supposed to be doing this,” Schreier jokingly tells Pugh. The video then pans to a monitor that showcases Pugh’s Yelena in a scene. Also, the Thunderbolts logo was printed with an asterisk on one of the set chairs, which could be the official spelling of the title.
Watch the entire video below.

And don't worry, we'll make sure you get back to the ship in time too! Just relax and let your private driver and Florence guide take care of you while they share fascinating facts and stories of two of Italy's most enchanting cities.
Pisa and Its Leaning Tower
Did you know Pisa is the hometown of Galileo? And of course, the city is home to the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. Located in the Square of Miracles, this remarkable tower took almost 200 years to construct and is famed for its notable lean (almost four degrees to be exact!). In addition to the leaning bell tower, the Square of Miracles is also home to the Pisa Cathedral (or Duomo di Pisa) and the Pisa Baptistery.
Unaware of the lack of stability on the marshy hill, the great tower took over 200 years to build but was not intended to be at an angle. Now reinforced to maintain a stable tilt, the famed tower has become one of Italy's most iconic sites. Had it stayed straight up, few would visit the impressive landmark today. Experience the tower in person, taking in the grandeur and uniqueness of this accidental world icon.
Despite how it looks, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is completely safe to climb as its structural integrity is monitored on a constant basis. In fact, so many visitors to Pisa are eager to check off climbing the tower from their bucket list, reserving a ticket is a challenge. But don’t worry—we take care of your skip-the-line Leaning Tower of Pisa tickets!
Welcome to Florence
Florence: the cradle of the Renaissance and one of Italy's most fascinating cities. You could spend days exploring the magnificence of Florence. But you don't have days, of course, so we'll provide your own private Florence guide armed with skip-the-line tickets to make sure you see the best of the city and its museums before it's time to get back to your cruise ship in Livorno.
You'll also have some free time to enjoy some delicious Florentine cuisine. Lunch isn't included but your guide will have plenty of great local recommendations.
Brunelleschi’s Duomo and The Gates of Paradise
The iconic Duomo is Florence's most recognized landmark. Towering over the city, Filippo Brunelleschi’s dome is a Renaissance treasure. From outside the Duomo cathedral, learn about the amazing piece of architecture as your guide explains its history. A few steps away you’ll see the renowned bronze Baptistry Doors which have been praised by generations of artists and art historians for their compelling portrayal of scenes from the Old Testament. These famous doors are not to be missed!
Filled with statues, fountains and beautiful architecture, the Piazza della Signoria is more of an outdoor art gallery rather than just a piazza. Florence’s city hall, the Palazzo Vecchio, is the square’s most prominent feature. Although you won’t enter the Palazzo Vecchio on this tour, walk through the beautiful exterior corridors of the Uffizi Museum and learn about the deep influence that the Medici family had on the city of Florence.
See the David at the Accademia Gallery
The Accademia Gallery is home to the world-famous David statue by Michelangelo. Standing 14 feet tall, the iconic marble statue depicts the biblical hero David before his battle with Goliath. The Accademia Gallery is the second-most popular museum in the city (behind the Uffizi), which sometimes means long lines for most visitors.
Fortunately, that won't be a problem for you! You'll bypass the crowds with your guide and enter a shorter security line. Short delays at the security check may occur during the busiest months of June and July.
The Uffizi Gallery
As the most popular museum in Florence, the line to get inside the Uffizi Gallery can also be quite long at times. Not to worry though, you'll also enjoy skip-the-line access here so you guide can show you the iconic Renaissance artwork inside without the long wait. Your guide has a true expertise on the Uffizi's artwork and the stories behind it all, so you'll also get a more informed and entertaining experience in this famous museum.
Once inside, visit some of the most celebrated works of art in the world, including Botticelli's Birth of Venus— a stunning depiction of the goddess Venus being carried ashore in a giant seashell. Caravaggio’s Medusa and Michelangelo’s Holy Family (or Doni Tondo ) are two of the other standout pieces on display here, but your guide will help you discover plenty of lesser-known gems too.
Discover Florentine Gelato
Did you know that Florence is the birthplace of gelato? On this walking tour, you'll pass by our favorite gelato shop in Florence where you can discover why it's one of the few most authentic gelaterias in Florence. Gelato isn't included, but your guide can tell you which flavors are the best to try.
The Jewelers on Ponte Vecchio Bridge
Ponte Vecchio means “old bridge” in Italian, and it's appropriately named. Merchant shops have lined this famed bridge since the 13th century. Originally, the shops included fishmongers, butchers, and tanners, however these particular goods caused such a stench in the area that Ferdinand I proclaimed in 1593 that only jewelers were allowed to sell on the bridge. You'll feel as if you've stepped back in time as you stroll around this historic part of Florence.
After a full day of sightseeing in Pisa and Florence, take the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy the scenic ride back to the port of Livorno. And since we handle all the details, we'll make sure you're back in time to set sail and get to the next incredible destination on your cruise.

Christiano is wonderful! He made our experience one of the best we have had. Dropping us off practically at the door of the leaning tower was a treat. His knowledge and friendliness was certainly a plus. In Florence we met with Francesca. Walking through the city, visiting the statue of David, the Duomo and the Uffiziwad amazing. Her passion and expertise was impressive. She is very sweet and had a great respect for her clients and her city. A wonderful day for sure!

Florence Pugh is back in Marvel movie mode and shared to Instagram a first look set video from the Atlanta studio where “ Thunderbolts ” is now in production. The tentpole will mark Pugh’s latest appearance as the assassin Yelena Belova, a role she debuted as in “Black Widow” and reprised on the Disney+ series “Hawkeye.” The set video includes a first look at one of Yelena’s combat-ready suits in the film. Pugh is also sporting some blue eyeliner.
Pugh panned to some of the structures being built on the “Thunderbolts” set and eventually ran into director Jake Schreier. Previously, Schreier directed 2012’s “Robot and Frank” and 2015’s “Paper Towns,” and he’s made several music videos for artists like Kanye West, Selena Gomez, Chance the Rapper, Baby Keem, Benny Blanco, Francis and the Lights, Cashmere Cat and more. He’s also directed episodes of HBO Max’s “Minx,” FX’s “The Premise” and Showtime’s “Kidding.”
“I don’t even think you’re supposed to be doing this,” Schreier playfully told Pugh, who panned to one of the playback monitors that reveals a first official look at Yelena Belova armed and dangerous in the movie.
“Someone is going to come rugby tackle me,” Pugh joked.
“Thunderbolts” is currently on Disney’s release calendar for May 2, 2025. Watch Pugh’s set video in the Instagram post below.

Florence Pugh Takes Us on a Tour of the Thunderbolts Set
The marvel studios film also starring harrison ford, sebastian stan, julia louis-dreyfus, david harbour, and more is now shooting in atlanta..
There’s a new crew of ne’er do wells joining up to save the world in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts . The new film starring Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, this era’s Black Widow , has started shooting in Atlanta, Georgia and the actress has given fans a look behind the scenes of the shoot.
In a delightful Instagram reel, also shared on X , Pugh gives us a look at Yelena’s new costume and a first glimpse at the logo of the upcoming Marvel team-up film featuring Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Red Guardian (David Harbour), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) alongside Black Widow. Alas there are no glimpses of the team yet—just some fun teases for one of Yelena’s scenes where she’s in a compound of some sort.
Here’s a look at the new costume for Yelena’s Black Widow; we’re digging the short hair.
And here’s a look at director Jake Schreier on deck with a quick look at the scene they’re shooting with the set chairs revealing the official Thunderbolts logo. They go back and forth teasing that they really shouldn’t be showing any of this.
Check the reel out here:
