04/28/2024 The Dolphin PM trip had 60 vermillion red rockfish, 37 mixed rockfish, 9 sculpin, and 1 sheepheed for 28 anglers. The Dolphin AM trip had 80 vermillion red rockfish, 25 mixed rockfish, 5 sculpin, 3 sheepheeed, and 1 sand basss for 40 anglers. The Liberty finished their Full Day Coronado Islands trip with 26 Yellowtail and 3 lingcod for 29 anglers. They also reported beautiful weather! The Liberty is  a Definite Go for Monday Morning. He is online all week long. They are recommending 40 to 50lbs yo-yo outfits, a 30 to 40lbs flyline outfit and if you have surface iron rods make sure you bring those also.

The Shogun just called in with 61 Bluefin Tuna (40-55 pounds) for day 1 of their 4 day trip.

The Bluefin are Back. The Shogun call in with 61 Bluefin and the othe boats had some good fishing last nigh. Most of the fish are 40 to 55 pounds. We booked a half-day afternoon fishing charter on the Swell Chaser. Booking was easy and communication was great. We were in town for a family reunion over the Christmas holiday and didn’t have high expectations for that time of year, but we wanted to get out on the water anyway. Capt. Hale texted me and let me know that they had better success in the morning the day before, so we showed up a couple hours earlier and were rewarded for our efforts. We landed yellowtail and rockfish and were able to leave the dock with fish taco and ceviche ingredients for the rest of our vacation. We had three adults and three teenagers on the boat and we all had a blast! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Coletta Sportfishing to anyone planning to be in the San Diego area that wants to have a great time on the water. We’ll definitely be back!

What a great experience! I booked this trip as an anniversary surprise for my husband and it did not disappoint! I relied 100% on the feedback and reviews from other clients since I am no expert when it comes to fishing. Our captain, Nick and deck hand, Matt were awesome! What a fantastic day we had with Coletta Sport Fishing. Capt. Jon and First Mate Hale clearly wanted to give us a satisfying fishing adventure, but with Military personnel onboard, we were reluctant to hit Mexican waters. Undaunted, the Crew worked their tails off to find fish! They were constantly scanning with binoculars, seeking intel from their well-developed stash of seafaring cronies, and reading the fish finder gizmos on this well-equipped vessel. Again and again we stopped at the kelp beds that litter the coastline and hit fish! It only got better on the way in when we found a school of hungry Yellow Tail. The crew truly enjoys what they do! We stayed out an additional hour and a half as we doubled our morning take and filled the bag. True fishermen, Brian and Hale couldn’t find it in themselves to quit when the catching was so good! Should you be interested in a kid-friendly boat, it was noteworthy that no F-Bombs we heard the whole day; the crew was not opposed to helping bait hooks and untangle little mess ups; and, fist-bumps and photos abounded. What a memorable time we had! Thank you Chris, Jon, and Hale! Oh, did I mention, 35 Pound Yellow Tail!!!

Looking for a top rated charter for my son-in law’s birthday and his first fish. Didn’t want to chance another party boat which we have already tried with no luck and lots of tangled lines. After fishing all over the mainland US and Hawaii for 50+ years I recently moved to San Diego so I wanted to find someone interested in repeat business as well. Coletta ratings were very good, reviews were as well. I called and left a message for Chris before booking, he called me back within 10 minutes and asked me all kinds of questions about my fishing experience and expectations, not just about my credit card numbers. He set us up for a 3/4 day local on the Wanu with Capt. Hale and mate Nick. Hale and Nick both grew up locally, were impressive in their fishing knowledge and fun to fish with. As soon as we would reach a spot they both worked to setup our lines and kept us engaged with tips, tricks and local info. We were on fish on the first drift! Over the course of the day we caught 21 rockfish + Mako and had a heck of a time! We are already planning for an off-shore trip. Chris & his team lived up to the “top rated” reviews, book early!

We chartered a 1/2 day trip Saturday the 30th, and it was amazing. Captain Chris made easy arrangements and John and Hale ran the boat. We worked pretty hard for rockfish, but my son made everyone’s day by hauling in a 30 pound yellowtail! The kids had a blast on the way in by throwing the remaining live bait to the swarms of pelicans and gulls! Couldn’t have been better.

Had an awesome afternoon fishing with Hale and Chuck. It was nonstop action particularly with calico bass with an added challenge of competing with a harbor seal :). We learned a lot about using live bait, casting and reeling techniques and the different kinds of fish we caught and had a really great time. True professionals and down to earth so I highly recommend these guys to anyone looking for a charter. We’ll be booking again for sure.

ooked a half-day charter for May 25 for myself, son and his friend. Cap’n Chris and first mate Chuck were great. We hooked up some small/medium-sized rock fish despite windy conditions. Then anchored nearer shore for some sea bass angling. I was happy they were so helpful with us novices, explaining gear and technique. We made a nice little haul-enough for a few fish fry’s. I reached out to Chris at Coletta Sport Fishing to see what trips he might have available on short notice and what fish may be running. Chris was very personable, offered me some times of open and recently rescheduled trips and described the conditions. He said we could fish for rock fish and other bottom dwellers, or Tuna was running, a little further out, no guarantee to catch one (nor did I expect a guarantee), but the better target for real fishing was the Tuna. My son and I showed up for the morning for a 1/2 day trip, The Captain Brian, told us the same thing, and off we went for Tuna off San Diego. About 1 hour out with Brian’s watchful eye and binoculars he spotted a school/swarm of Tuna, and with their help we got hooks in the water quickly and nailed a small yellow fin. Then they moved away, we kept on their trail, by the end of the 1/2 day we had caught 8 Tuna, 7, blue fin, one yellow fin, over 200 pounds of fish. It was a great time. Excellent service, and I highly recommend Coleta and Chris

We had a blast with Coletta Sportfishing! We caught 35 Rockfish during our 1/2 day trip! Captain Hale & Nick were awesome and extremely helpful with our young kids. They were unbelievably fast at getting poles back in the water after each catch. We plan on coming back next year for sure!

My husband, in his early 30s, had never caught a fish before so for his birthday I set up a trip with Coletta fishing. We are local to San Diego and, although we’ve been on the water plenty of times, we’ve never been fishing! We had such a blast with Captain Jon and Hale. It felt more like hanging out with friends and fishing, which we really liked. They were both super helpful and patient with us newbies and even offered to take us back for some bay fishing after we both started feeling a bit seasick. Captain Chris was super communicative and very helpful during the scheduling and up to the trip. I look forward to setting up another trip with them in the future (this time with dramamine)! Me and my family had an incredible day of fishing with Coletta. Chris was so helpful and informative the whole time. Captain Brian was great with all of us, he never stopped looking for fish, we caught a ton of yellowtail. He also made sure to point out dolphin, hammerheads, whales and sea turtles. Oh yeah, and we caught a ton of fish. It was the first time for my daughter (13) and wife, Brian and Mat we really helpful and patient. My son (16) and I got to reel in a lot of fish. Can’t wait to do it again. If you are looking for some great fishing on a clean, comfortable boat with knowledgeable people then you should call Chris at Coletta.

We had two boats (Chris made special arrangements) go out with 4 people on each boat competing for most fish and biggest catch. The crew was great and chipped in a few fish each, and our boat won with a few nice Bonito. Overall I think it was a pretty slow fishing day, we cleaned up mostly with bottom fish like Rockfish and whatnot, but even they were fun. Great weather, exceptional service, cold beer, great day. Wished the fish were biting more but hey, who can complain?

We had an amazing time with Coletta Sportfishing! We did a half day trip in the afternoon in early October with a group of 5. The crew was amazing. They were very friendly and fun to hang out with! We caught a bunch of fish and went home with a big bag of fresh fillets which we cooked up that night! All in all it was a great experience. Went on a 3/4 day fishing trip and came back with tons of fish!!! Highlights were a 30lbs yellowtail and 2 unexpected halibut! We also caught plenty of bonito. The crew and service were just as awesome as the fishing. I called Chris the owner and he answered all my questions and was really great about explaining everything. The crew were great too. Capt. Brian and Hale were fun to hangout with all day. The were very helpful with tips while fishing, cleaning the fish and fun conversation. I would highly recommend Coletta fishing!!! Will do it again!

We booked the boat for the day. It was in great condition and the crew was very fun and professional. Put us on fish almost immediately and kept it going all day. We will definitely book with them again.

Wow – flawless planning and set up with this trip. Parking was a breeze the morning of and our Captain met us at the dock and walked us to the boat. Easy day on the water, caught plenty of fish for our fish fry that night and can’r say enough about the Captain and crew we had helping us out. We will definitely be back again.

Great experience with Chris and his team at Coletta Sport Fishing. Chris answered all my questions about booking the trip and his crew on the Wanu were friendly, knowledgeable, professional and patient with our group of relatively inexperienced anglers – which included 4 teenage boys. Unfortunately, the yellowtail were not biting but Capt. Jon kept us on fish most of the day which we enjoyed as fish tacos for dinner. I’ll be calling Chris again and highly recommend Coletta Sport Fishing if you are looking for a fun and safe day on the water.

Booking the excursion with Chris was fantastic – he was quick, responsive and made the best recommendation for our excursion. Wanted to take the family out on a half day fishing trip and we had the best time every! We live in San Diego and have been out a few times, but Coletta Sport Fishing trips are always the best! Our guides, Trevor and John were very professional, and helped us with everything! It was the perfect fishing trip with a great boat! They were full of energy, happy to be out on the water, and very knowledgable. After a slow start, they became strategic and eventually landed us an awesome haul of rockfish. On the way back, as Trevor was cleaning our fish, they spotted about a hundred dolphins flying by. The half day trips are perfect for our family – I would highly recommend Coletta Sport Fishing as the best charter boat in San Diego!

We got there and the crew and boat were ready to go. We went out with captin Brian and Trevor on the Wanu. After a quick safety talk and what to expect we started out. As soon as we hit the fishing grounds and line hit the water we started catching fish. The crew did a great job with my whole family. The kids (6&12) they made sure they had fun and stayed safe. As an added bonus we got to see a whale, several pods of dolphins, and some sea lions. This was a great experience all around. Would highly recommend and im already starting to plan my next trip around doing it again.

One of the most unique fisheries on the West Coast of the United States, San Diego Bay is a natural deep water bay that is home to hundreds of different fish species. We now also offer Fly Fishing, Inshore, and Coronado Island/Offshore trips during peak season (May-October)!

Sheltered from the offshore swells, San Diego Bay is a great place for anglers of all skill levels. From beginners and children to serious bass anglers, there is something for everyone in the Bay. It was recently voted the #1 easiest place to catch a fish in San Diego, and on most days the fishing is fast and furious! As many as 20-30 fish is not uncommon for a half day fishing, making this a great place for children or people who are new to the sport. With year round good weather and awesome views of Downtown San Diego, fishing San Diego Bay is a truly memorable experience!

We now also offer seasonal trips Inshore and to the Coronado Islands/Offshore.  Inshore Trips are available March-November and target a variety of species along the local coast line.  These trips are great for anglers who don’t get seasick and are looking to cook their catch.  Calico Bass, Rockfish, Barracuda, Yellowtail, and Bonito are common fish to catch on these trips.

Coronado Island/Offshore trips will be available May-October and are recommended for experienced anglers.  The Coronado Islands are a unique fishery located just over the Mexican Border.  These trips require Passports and Mexican Fishing Permits (these will be handled by the captain and are included in the price of the trip).  Coronado Islands trips give you the best chance at Yellowtail and Calico Bass and are worth it for the scenic beauty alone.  Depending on the fishing conditions these trips can also be flexed to Offshore for Tuna, Dorado, and Yellowtail at the captains discretion.

Captain Eric Risen is a highly professional, tournament proven saltwater angler with over 20 years of fishing experience in San Diego, CA. He spent his youth fishing the San Diego Bay as well as the inshore and offshore bite, honing his skills.

Further can comfortably accommodate a maximum of 4 passengers.

How does payment work?

A 50% deposit is required upon booking. The remaining 50% will be collected before your trip departure. Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, and Cash are accepted.

Cancellation policy?

Cancellations more than two weeks before your trip will be refunded in full. Any cancellation within two weeks of your trip cannot be refunded, and you forfeit your deposit.

Are Licenses Included?

Licenses are not included. These are available for purchase online here . For Island trips, you’ll need a Mexican fishing license, available for purchase here . Both are also available at the Dana Landing Tackle Shop about 1 mile from the dock.

Food & Drinks

Water, Gatorade, sodas, and snacks will be provided. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages and food. Note there is a microwave and a refrigerator onboard.

Specifically fishing the Coronado Islands in Mexico, you will need a passport for each and every person to book this trip. No exceptions. The Coronado islands offer an awesome variety of fish to catch ranging from Bluefin to Dorado. Generally speaking, fishing Mexican waters means more bites and more fish. The scenery is also incredible. There is also great bass fishing on the island as well! The islands offer a Tuna bite well after San Diego has stopped for the season. Includes light lunch and coffee, soda, water, snacks. You will need to purchase a one-day Mexican fishing license and a bio-bracelet for $30 from our landing before departure.

MEXICO FISHING TRIP

(YEAR ROUND) - 1 TO 3 DAY

Headed South! All the way as far as TODOS SANTOS island and the ENSENADA BAY. Favorite spots include the Rock Pile, the 101, 439, 425, and Upper Finger Bank, and the outer banks (Kidney bank and Hidden Bank. These trips offer the best chances of catching larger and higher quality fish than any trip offered. The fishing is almost always better the further south we go. Enjoy pelagic fishing year-round. When the fish head south, so do we. Includes all meals, coffee, soda, water, rods, reels, tackle, and bait. You will need to purchase a Mexican fishing license and a ​bio-bracelet for $30 from our landing before departure. Multi-Day trips include a stay over at the Hotel Coral and Marina in Ensenada and a night out on the town in the city on layover. :) This will not be a trip you will forget.

This trip goes to the backside of San Clemente Island to fish for Bluefin Tuna during the night and early morning and Kite fish during the day. Bluefin range in size from 20 to 250 lbs!!! Don't worry, we have the heavy rods and reels at the ready, and glow in the dark flat falls. We arrive in the middle of the night and drop flat falls on the meter marks until we hook up. It is hard fishing, but if you catch a bluefin that is over 100 lbs you will be in for the fight of your life. Our experienced deckhands and Captain will ensure that if you hook it, you will have the best chance to land it. We have fighting belts and a fighting chair and harness if you hook the big one. If by morning we want more action, we go on the troll with a kite and a gummy flyer flying fish. Both of these tactics are proven. We also carry 4 scoops of bait, just in case. Includes all meals and snacks, soda, water, rods, reels, tackle, and bait.

Catalina white seabass.

(YEAR ROUND) - 1 TO 3 DAYS. 

Call for price. This trip goes to the backside of beautiful Catalina Island. Behind the island is the Farnsworth bank and also the Northern tip of the island, both are notorious and prolific producers of White Seabass. Not uncommonly in the sixty-plus pound weight class. Smaller examples are even more prevalent. In addition to hooking up on these beasts, there are many other rockfish, barracuda, yellowtail, calico, and halibut to be caught. On the way to and from the island, rest assured we are trolling for yellowfin and bluefin as well, and on the lookout for patties. Overnight trips also stay in Avalon harbor, so you can go ashore and have a beer and a steak if you like. Includes all meals and snacks, soda, water, rods, reels, tackle, bait.

CORTEZ & TANNER BANK

Go deep or go home. These outer banks are about a hundred miles off shore and represent the pinnacle of deep sea banks off the coast of Southern California. The biggest fish can be found here and when we fish here we are using our heaviest gear. There are swordfish, bluefin, marlin, giant yellowfin, as well as all the bottom fish you can catch. Very fast bite and usually not crowded (at all). It is amazing to see the swells breaking off a rock that comes within 5 feet of the surface over 100 miles to sea. The fishing is always exciting and fast paced here. On the way to and from the banks, rest assured we are trolling for yellowfin and bluefin as well, and on the look out for patties. Overnight and multi day trips also stop and fish San Clemente Island. Includes all meals and snacks, soda, water, rods, reels, ​tackle, and bait.​​

The Voyager is a 55' long by 15' wide charter boat. A variety of trips from 1/2 day to 2 day charters are offered for our larger parties. The Voyager's courteous crew specializes in showing the novice fisherman how to fish and the experienced fisherman the service they expect. The Voyager is a clean, fast, and well-equipped vessel specializing in San Diego fishing Charters . The Voyager is equipped with state-of-the-art electronics including Wesmar Sonar and Furuno fish finding equipment to help pursue the fish in an aggressive manner.  The POMPANO is a 27’ SS ProLine center console (30 overall). A little longer and a little wider, hang on and have fun on your rocket ride to the fishing grounds! The power is provided by twin mercury outboards. With full walk around ability, you can follow your fish anywhere on the boat. The POMPANO has a private enclosed bathroom and a built in cooler for the best San Diego fishing experience.

The 30’ Pompano is a perfect choice for 1-6 anglers for shark fishing and 1-4 anglers for regular fishing. Available in San Diego form August through May and in Los Angeles June and July only.

No. Please do not bring a cooler as they slide around when the boat moves and become dangerous. We provide all the soda, beer, and water you could possibly need and we can always fulfill special requests.

All of our boats come fully equipped with the necessary tackle but you may certainly bring your own.

Please arrive 30 minutes before any trips between ½ day and 5AM-to-5PM. For overnight or longer trips, please arrive approximately 1 hour before the scheduled departure time.

We suggest dressing in layers as early mornings tend to be chilly, but the temperatures rise as the day progresses. Sunblock and a hat are essential even on cloudy days and we always recommend bringing a camera. We do not recommend flip flops due to their slippery nature. Boots are more suitable but if you do not have boots, please wear something with a non-slick sole that can get wet. Also, if you are susceptible to seasickness, plan to take Bonine, Dramamine, or another similar motion sickness medication. We sell Bonine and Dramamine at the Landing if you forget to bring some. Please keep in mind that you need to take motion sickness medication before the boat leaves in order for the medicine to be effective.

While tipping is not required, it is customary to tip the captain and the crew. The standard amount is 15 to 20% depending on the service. Please use the same discretion you would in a restaurant.

Those suffering from seasickness often find relief by:

• keeping their eyes directed to the fixed shore or horizon.
• lying down on their backs and closing their eyes
• move into a position where fresh air is blowing on their face
• moving to the boat’s center of gravity
• drinking plenty of water

Unlike with a hangover, succumbing to nausea normally does not relieve the symptoms of seasickness, and, once started, is often difficult to stop.

The captains have a variety of special spots up their sleeves, but most of the time you will be fishing off the coast of Point Loma, roughly about a mile offshore. (You’re still within sight of land).

Fishing with us is not "roughing it".

The Dolphin is a smooth riding 85 ft long 25” ft wide vessel. She is a tried and true coast guard certified vessel with plenty of room to fish. The Dolphins galley can seat up to 60 people and there is seating above the main deck. 

The boat has a full service galley and a full time cook to whip up meals and snacks as you fish. Beer for the adults and soda for the kids.

Tired of fishing? Just head below deck and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or coffee and relax in the galley. At the end of your trip the crew can even fillet and bag your catch for you to take home and enjoy. Rockfish makes amazing fish tacos.

Fueled by twin 315 HP Yanmar diesel motors, Fish Hunter has a cruising speed of 16-18 knots. She can safely and swiftly take you to the fishing hotspots so you can spend more time fishing and less time traveling. This is the perfect fishing outing for families, first time ocean anglers as well as those visitors with limited free time during a visit to town. We will fish the Coronado Islands, Inshore kelp, or 9 mile bank where you can expect to target local species including rockfish, bonito, barracuda, yellowtail and more.

3/4 Day Fishing trip

This trip allows for more fishing time and range than half day.  Fishing offshore or Coronado Islands we would be targeting Yellowtail, Bonito, Rockfish, Tuna, Dorado and more.

Offshore Bluefin Tuna Trip ($3985)(6am-6pm)

Times may vary to coincide with best bluefin bite time.

Boat Capacity: 6

Fishing offshore from 15-60 miles exclusively for Trophy Bluefin Tuna. Soft Drinks and waters are included and you are welcome to bring food, Beer and snacks onboard. Catered food and beverages available upon request.

Full Day Offshore Fishing Trip

This trip can fish the Coronado Islands, the northern Baja coastline or head offshore in US waters up to 40 miles. In the summer months you can fish anywhere from 10 to 40 miles from home. You can expect to target tuna, dorado, yellowtail and more. Sodas and waters are included and you are welcome to bring food, beer and snacks onboard.

Joseph and his Daughter came out for a ¾ day trip to celebrate her graduation. They had some steady action with good rockfishing at the Coronado Islands, then went offshore to try their luck.

Captain Alex found some floating kelp patties that were holding yellowtail up to 20 pounds and then came across a school of feeding bluefin tuna and found one that wanted to bite.

The boat was immaculate, the gear was top notch, deckhand was very friendly and helpful, We ended up with limits of yellowtail and some nice dorado. This was the trip of a lifetime! We will be back next summer to fish again.

Really enjoyed the trip. This is my third time fishing with Captain Marc. This time we went into Mexican waters and did some casting and jigging. The captain put us on the spot for Yellowfin and we caught lots!

Took my wife and 3 kids out fishing today. We were on the water for a half day and the kids had a blast. My boys caught some bass and halibut. Was well worth the money. Marc and deckhand alex were great.

S ometimes we just want to ditch the on-land attractions and head out to the ocean for a sailing adventure. Whether you’ve never been on a boat before or you’re a seasoned sailor yourself but couldn’t get your boat down to San Diego and still need your fix of the sea breeze. Greg and I got into sailing a few years ago. We currently don’t have our sailing certification but love spending time on the water. So until we can safely maneuver our own sailboat, we either head out with one of our friends (Big shout out to Joe! Thank you!!!) or go on a sailing tour.

Small Group San Diego Sunset Sailing Excursion

This three-hour San Diego sunset sail tour brings lovers of the sea out on a Catalina-style sailboat to watch the last of the sun rays fall behind the ocean. The idea of this excursion is to create an intimate feeling, only allowing six guests on board.
