If you want to cast a video from your iPhone to your TV, or if you want to watch YouTube on a larger screen, AirPlay, Apple’s casting feature, will help you do that . AirPlay allows you to wirelessly cast audio or video from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to an Apple TV or an AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV , as long as your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi as the TV.

You can stream videos from any iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. You can even stream video from a Windows PC, but only through iTunes. Just make sure your device’s operating system is relatively recent (a list of the various OS requirements can be found here ).

With the latest version , AirPlay 2, you can also stream audio to multiple rooms, decide which room to play it in, and pair speakers. Here’s how to stream audio using AirPlay .

Here’s how to use AirPlay to cast videos from your iPhone, your Mac, and your Windows PC.

Use AirPlay on your iPhone

These instructions are specifically for an iPhone, but the steps are similar for an iPad or an iPod touch. The biggest differences in the procedure depend on what app you’re playing video from. You’ll have to follow one of two sets of steps:

  • If you see an AirPlay button — which looks like a rectangle with an arrow pointing up at the bottom — when you open up the app or a video in the app, tap on that to use AirPlay. For example, in the YouTube app for iPad, there will be an AirPlay button in the bottom right corner of the video.
  • If you don’t see an AirPlay button, then you’ll need to select the app’s option for casting, sharing, or playing content on a different device, and then tap the AirPlay option. For example, in the YouTube app for iPhone, you would tap the cast button at the top of the screen (it looks like a rectangle with a Wi-Fi symbol coming out of the bottom left corner) and then tap “AirPlay & Bluetooth devices.” In Photos, tap the share button (which looks like a square with an arrow coming out of the top). Then, scroll down and tap AirPlay.

YouTube will display a pop-up list of casting options, including AirPlay.

  • For either type of app, tap the device you want to use AirPlay with.

Select which device to use AirPlay with from this screen.

  • Your TV may display a code. Enter that in the box on your phone’s screen and tap OK.
  • Now you’re casting your video to your TV via AirPlay.

You may be prompted to enter the code from your TV into this box.

  • To stop casting, open up the AirPlay window in the same way you accessed it above (again, this will differ depending on the app) and tap “iPhone” on the list of devices. This will return your feed from the TV back to your iPhone. In Photos, you’ll have to tap the AirPlay icon in the top right corner and then “My Device.”

Use Airplay on your Mac

  • Open up the video you’d like to cast to your TV.
  • Click on the AirPlay button. Often (but not always) you’ll find it in the bottom right corner of the video. (We found that it was best to access YouTube through Safari rather than Chrome.)
  • Select the device you’d like to cast your video to from the drop-down options.

In YouTube, the devices you can use AirPlay with will be listed in the bottom right-hand corner, near the AirPlay button.

  • Your Mac may ask you for the code displayed on your TV. Enter it into the pop-up window.
  • When you want to stop casting, click on the same AirPlay button you clicked on earlier to start AirPlay. Then click “Turn off AirPlay” from the drop-down menu.

This is what you’ll see on your Mac screen after sending a video from QuickTime Player to a TV via AirPlay.

Using AirPlay on your PC

You can use AirPlay on your Windows PC, but only for content on iTunes. To do that:

  • Open iTunes and start playing a video.
  • Click on the AirPlay button in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.
  • Select the device from which you want to watch.
  • You may be prompted to enter a code. If so, enter the code on your TV into the pop-up window on your PC.
  • You should now be watching your video on your TV.

In iTunes, the devices you can use AirPlay with will appear in the lower left-hand corner.

  • To stop AirPlay, click on the AirPlay button again and then select “My Computer.”

There is another way to cast video to your TV: by using screen mirroring to cast your entire screen to your TV. We’ll walk through those steps in an upcoming article.

In this guide, we will delve into the process of screen mirroring Safari, Apple's renowned web browser , onto a TV. By following the steps outlined in this article, you will be able to experience the full breadth of Safari's capabilities on the big screen, enhancing your browsing experience and enabling you to share web content with others in a more immersive manner.

Screen mirroring Safari to your TV opens up a world of possibilities. Whether you want to showcase a captivating website, share a memorable online experience with loved ones, or simply enjoy the convenience of browsing the web on a larger display, this guide will equip you with the knowledge and steps needed to achieve this seamlessly.

So, if you're ready to elevate your browsing experience and bring the web to life on your TV screen, let's dive into the process of screen mirroring Safari to your TV. Whether you're a tech enthusiast or a casual user, this guide will walk you through the steps, making the process accessible and enjoyable. Let's embark on this journey to unlock the full potential of Safari through the magic of screen mirroring.

Step 1: Check Compatibility

Before embarking on the process of screen mirroring Safari to your TV, it's crucial to ensure that your devices are compatible and meet the necessary requirements. Compatibility plays a pivotal role in the seamless transmission of content from your device to the TV screen. Here's what you need to consider:

TV Compatibility : First and foremost, check if your TV supports screen mirroring. Most modern smart TVs come equipped with screen mirroring capabilities, often referred to as "Miracast" or "Screen Mirroring." Ensure that your TV model supports this feature, as it varies across brands and models.

Device Compatibility : Verify if the device you intend to use for screen mirroring, such as an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, is compatible with the TV. For instance, if you have an iPhone, ensure that your TV supports AirPlay, Apple's proprietary wireless streaming protocol. Similarly, if you have an Android device, ensure that your TV supports the relevant screen mirroring technology, such as Miracast or Google Cast.

Network Compatibility : Check if both your device and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Screen mirroring typically relies on a shared network connection for seamless communication between the devices. Ensure that both devices are connected to the same network to facilitate the screen mirroring process.

Software Updates : It's essential to keep your devices and TV's firmware up to date. Software updates often include enhancements and bug fixes related to screen mirroring functionality. Check for any available updates for your device and TV to ensure optimal performance during the screen mirroring process.

By thoroughly checking the compatibility of your TV, device, network, and software, you can lay a solid foundation for a successful screen mirroring experience. This proactive approach minimizes potential compatibility issues and ensures a smooth and uninterrupted screen mirroring session. Once you've confirmed compatibility, you can proceed with confidence to the next steps, knowing that your devices are primed for a seamless screen mirroring experience.

Step 2: Connect Your Device to the TV

Connecting your device to the TV is a pivotal step in the process of screen mirroring Safari. This step lays the groundwork for establishing a seamless connection between your device and the TV, enabling the transmission of Safari's content to the larger display. Here's a detailed exploration of how to connect your device to the TV for an optimal screen mirroring experience.

Wired Connection:

If you're using a Macbook or a device with an HDMI output, a wired connection offers a straightforward method to link your device to the TV. Simply connect one end of the HDMI cable to your device's HDMI output port and the other end to an available HDMI input port on your TV. Once connected, select the corresponding HDMI input on your TV using the remote control, and your device's screen should be mirrored onto the TV display.

Wireless Connection:

For wireless connectivity, the specific method varies based on the device and TV models. If you have an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and your TV supports AirPlay, you can leverage this wireless streaming protocol to establish a connection. Ensure that both your device and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. On your device, access the Control Center or AirPlay settings and select your TV from the available devices to initiate the screen mirroring process.

If you have an Android device and your TV supports Miracast or Google Cast, you can utilize these technologies for wireless screen mirroring. Access the screen mirroring or casting settings on your Android device and select your TV from the list of available devices to initiate the connection.

Third-Party Devices:

In some cases, you may require a third-party device, such as a streaming media player or a wireless display adapter, to facilitate the connection between your device and the TV. These devices act as intermediaries, enabling seamless screen mirroring by bridging the gap between different device and TV technologies. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to set up and connect these third-party devices to your TV and device, allowing for smooth screen mirroring functionality.

By carefully considering the wired and wireless connection options, as well as the potential need for third-party devices, you can establish a robust connection between your device and the TV, setting the stage for an immersive screen mirroring experience. Once the connection is established, you're ready to proceed to the next steps and delve into the captivating world of screen mirroring Safari to your TV.

Step 3: Enable Screen Mirroring on Your Device

Let's explore the specific steps to enable screen mirroring on different devices:

Method to get DRM to enable Apple TV+ in Safari

eSaF

Recommended Posts

Before I start - Mods/Admin if this post is in the wrong Thread please remove and place in the appropriate one - I am sure the DRM has been extensively covered but just incase anyone is still struggling with DRM in Safari and stuck with only Mac Pro SmBIOS to achieve DRM ability, this may help others.

Method to get DRM to enable Apple TV+ in Safari other than iMac Pro 1.1 or 7.1 Models (will also work with Mac Models 20.1 and 20.2)

To get Apple TV work on Big Sur 11.xxx and Monterey with

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019) i7 -3.6 GHz and GPU AMD RX 580.

My machine is set to iMac 19.1.

I have OpenCore 0.7.1

I could never get Apple TV to work with this SmBIOS, so I did some research and found this.

Open Terminal, and paste lines one at a time, and press enter after each command line.

defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA gvaForceAMDKE -bool YES

defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA gvaForceAMDAVCEncode -bool YES

defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA gvaForceAMDAVCDecode -bool YES

defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA gvaForceAMDHEVCDecode -bool YES

After all lines are entered as instructed, reboot and Apple TV works.

Unfortunately it will not work for Netflix in Safari so I have to use Google Chrome for Netflix which for me is a small price to pay.

Haha

Seems like this method is useful only for Hacks with AMD's GPUs, but for iGPU users only there's no solution yet right?

Thank you 😃

AudioGod

@eSaF  instead of doing that try adding  unfairgva=1    to the boot arguments instead.  On the AMD side of life this fixes Apple TV and Netflix on safari etc etc.

:)

Sorry AG didn't work for me - Added unfairgva=1, rebooted, cleaned NvRAM

and got the usual Netflix error in Safari (see attached). Incidentally I have both iGPU and dGPU enabled in the BIOS. iGPU set as Auto and dGPU set as first. Don't know if that makes much difference but will continue to play around with the settings meanwhile.

If you are using imacpro1,1 or macpro7,1 then disable the igpu in the bios all together. Strange that it doesn’t work for you but mind you are you using 12.0 by any chance cos if you are then it probably won’t work no. Nothings really been worked on yet on 12.0. This is a big sur fix

I believe that iGPU as Auto activates the iGPU when it does not detect dGPU or there is no cable connected from the dGPU but from the iGPU, at least that's the way my motherboard seems to work.

The guide whose link posts @Andrey1970  is still valid for the most part.

In my opinion, systems like ours (Z390 + AMD dGPU) fix DRM easily with iMacPro1,1 or MacPro7,1, as you have already mentioned. Both SMBIOS work best with iGPU disabled in BIOS and no code related to iGPU in config.plist.

I have tried these 2 SMBIOS and with them:

  • Netflix, Prime Vide and TV + in Chrome ok
  • Netflix, Prime Vide and TV + in Safari ok.

With iMac19,1 SMBIOS + iGPU enabled (headless mode in config.plist) + defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA... commands you posted:

  • Netflix, Prime Vide and TV + in Safari no.

unfairgva=1 also does not solve this with iMac19,1 and with the other SMBIOS it is not necessary.

Yeah it’s for 1,1 and 7,1 not 19,1.  😀

I use it with 7,1 and have Apple TV, Netflix, Amazon prime Disney Plus all working. Without it I loose it all but again this is a AMD thing really.

Thank you buddy,

And I got to add and please nobody take offence but Intel CPUs are abit of a joke at the moment. It’s why I went with a 5900x. There no Intel cpu that can compare. Oh how the tide has turned…lol

Anyway I’m going right off topic so forgive me @eSaF and I will close my mouth now before I say something that gets me into trouble…lol

For imac19,1 use unfairgva=5 or add unfairgva data 05000000 to AMD GPU deviceproperties.

Without any applegva commands, apple tv works fine. Prime safari didn't work. Didn't have netflix to test.

Maybe reviving an older thread here and I am sorry about this but I am trying quite desperately to get this working on the machine in my signature while maintaining SideCar support. It appears that these two functionalities are very much tied together.

Because I have seen success report from people on github with very similar setups I feel that I am missing something and the Whatevergreen documentation leaves a lot to be desired.

Based on my research, as of WEG 1.5.8 there are 3 relevant properties being injected to the AMD GPU:

  • enable-gva-support: This is relatively new and due to the reversed logic of disabling the gva patches by default now. I am not sure how it affects the DRM issue but am enabling it anyway. (set to 1) but doesnt appear to do anything.
  • shikigva: I see some successes getting simultaneously SideCar on iGPU and DRM on dGPU with people setting it to 16 or 80. It seems to not work at all with Monterey though I see it still on many setups. Is it still working for anyone?
  • unfairgva: On the iMac SMBIOS setting it to 5 and 7 actually enables AppleTV DRM indeed but it breaks SideCar. Setting it to 1 doesn't work and breaks both DRM and SideCar.

But here is the caviat:

It appears that on my machine, these two actions are similar: setting unfairgva=5 or 7 and running this

No need to reboot on my machine by the way when running the terminal command as it will instantly make SideCar unreliable and enable dGPU DRM. Setting it to "NO" instantly reverts to SideCar working again and breaking DRM.

The unfairgva setting just seems to be worse for SideCar as the terminal command still allows for a connection, it is just unreliable, while unfairgva prevents connection altogether.

If anyone has a way to get both working at the same time... Please share. It seemed like Shiki was the way to do it but it is broken.

Obstinately following up on this as I could really use some help again due to the lack of documentation I could find on the unfairgva functionality in spite of looking at the source code which I can't fully comprehend. It appears that it

I can only report my observations with unfairGVA set at 5:

1. If I start AppleTV upon boot, DRM works. I can thereafter start SideCar and it connects but... I can tell that SideCar is very flaky and runs on the AMD GPU as I see artifacts on the iPad. When SideCar is on then I lose the video on AppleTV... Audio still works.

2. If I do the opposite: start Sidecar first after a reboot, I see that Sidecar uses the iGPU as I see not artifacts and flickers. When I start Apple TV with Sidecar on then DRM fails but audio also works...

Basically SideCar and DRM cannot run simultaneously and the order in which we start appears to somewhat matter with unfairgva. I cannot explain that from the code either as it appears that it essentially detects a non 0 argument and then changes the board id for the hwgva id to an iMacPro1,1 board ID. I am not sure what the various values do. It seems to be still a bit better than the forced terminal command. tagging  @vit9696

Edit: Just tested a 2018 MBp with a dGPU and it behaves very similarly: If Sidecar is running, Video DRM does not work... So I guess it runs at it possibly could with Monterey. Only if we could understand how unfairgva really works...

Block pop-up ads and windows in Safari

Learn how to block pop-up windows and handle persistent ads on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Pop-ups can be ads, notices, offers, or alerts that open in your current browser window, in a new window, or in another tab. Some pop-ups are third-party ads that use phishing tactics such as warnings or prizes to trick you into believing they’re from Apple or another trusted company, so that you’ll share personal or financial information. Or they might claim to offer free downloads, software updates, or plug-ins to try to trick you into installing unwanted software.

Use these tips to help manage pop-ups and other unwanted interruptions.

Avoid interacting with pop-ups

Unless you’re confident that they are a legitimate ad, avoid interacting with pop-ups or webpages that seem to take over your screen.

If you see an annoying pop-up ad in Safari, you can go to the Search field and enter a new URL or search term to browse to a new site. If you don’t see the Search field on your iPhone or iPad, tap the top of the screen to make it appear.

Some pop-ups and ads have fake buttons that resemble a close button, so use caution if you try to close a pop-up or ad. If you're not sure, avoid interacting with it and close the Safari window or tab.

On your Mac, you can quit Safari, then press and hold the Shift key while opening Safari. This prevents Safari from automatically reopening any windows or tabs that were open.

Update your software

Always install the latest software updates for all of your Apple products. Many software releases have important security updates and may include improvements that help control pop-ups.

The safest way to download apps for your Mac is from the App Store. If you need software that isn’t available from the App Store, get it directly from the developer or another reliable source, rather than through an ad or link.

Check Safari settings

On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Safari.

Turn on Block Pop-ups.

Turn on Fraudulent Website Warning.

On your Mac, open Safari and choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences) from the menu bar.

In the Websites tab , you can configure options to allow or block some or all pop-ups .

In the Security tab , turn on the setting to warn when visiting a fraudulent website.

If adware or other unwanted software is installed on Mac

If you see pop-ups on your Mac that just won’t go away, you might have unintentionally downloaded and installed adware (advertising-supported software) or other unwanted software. Certain third-party download sites might include software that you don’t want along with the software that you do.

If you think that you might have malware or adware on your Mac:

Update to the latest version of macOS. If your Mac is already using the latest version, restart your Mac. macOS includes a built-in tool that removes known malware when restarting.

Check your Applications folder to see if you have any apps that you don't expect. You can uninstall those apps .

Check the Extensions tab in Safari settings to see if you installed any unnecessary extensions. You can turn extensions off .

If you continue to see advertising or other unwanted programs on your Mac, contact Apple.

AdGuard v7.17 for Windows: on-the-fly DoH connection filtering

We just rolled out a major release with two important additions, thanks to updated CoreLibs. First up, we enhanced the Encrypted ClientHello feature, which amps up your privacy protection. Plus, we’ve introduced on-the-fly DoH connection filtering for even more security. Let’s dive in and explore.

Enhanced Encrypted ClientHello

AdGuard for Windows supports ECH as an experimental feature. It helps us to encrypt the very last unencrypted bit of information, thus improving your privacy level. We are working hard to resolve some technical issues so that it can become one of the default options for users. The updated CoreLibs is another step towards that goal.

On-the-fly DoH connection filtering

CoreLibs v1.14 also allows us to implement on-the-fly DoH connection filtering. Why is it so important? Previously, if you set up DoH in a browser but not in AdGuard, we had to filter requests directly in the browser and send them to the system DNS (unencrypted). This process lowered the level of security for such users. Now the situation is completely different. With on-the-fly DoH connection filtering, we can filter DNS requests in the browser without sending them to an unencrypted server.

We also made some minor fixes here and there, updated WFP and TDI drivers, as well as DnsLibs.

Want to know more? Check out the full changelog on GitHub . We always appreciate feedback: feel free to leave a comment below or hit us up on social media.
