The marvels of Madrid

Your trip starts with two nights in the Spanish capital Madrid , a city bursting with life and passion. Madrilenos, the city’s inhabitants, really know how to live. As you explore its well-planned streets, you’ll get your first taste of tapas and an introduction to the country from a local historian.

Madrid is a powerhouse of culture. You’ll tour of the Golden Triangle of Art, encompassing the world-famous Prado Museum, one of Europe’s great art galleries, the Reina Sofía Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Historical and artistic tour

Meet your art historian guide to learn about Madrid’s architectural evolution. Travel through the magnificent eighteenth century neoclassical period, with such masterpieces as the Prado Museum, the Puerta de Alcalá and the Fuente de Cibeles, before visiting the elegant and glamorous Barrio de Salamanca, a showcase of 19th and early 20th century buildings. The tour includes a visit to the Prado Museum itself, home to 9,000 pieces by artists such as Bosch, Titian, El Greco, Rubens, Velasquez, Goya and Madrazo.

Visit the Royal Palace

Madrid’s Royal Palace was the residence of the Kings of Spain from the 18th century to the early 20th century. It was built by order of Philip V on the site of the old Alcázar fortress, a former Moorish castle. The Sabatini and Campo del Moro Gardens are among the Palace’s other attractions, as well as its several different façades. Notable among its numerous rooms are the Royal Guards’ Room, the Columns Room, the Hall of Mirrors and King Charles III’s room.

A stop in charming Cordoba

Cordoba is perhaps Spain’s most elegant city, an historic centre of culture and lasting testament to a golden age of religious tolerance during its time as a caliphate. King Ferdinand III then claimed the city for Castile during the Spanish Reconquista, bequeathing it its gothic and renaissance finery. Visit today, and you’ll find Cordoba’s grand past beautifully reflected in the city’s magnificent architecture. During your tour, explore the Moorish, Jewish and Christian quarters including the Alcazar with its beautiful gardens. You’ll also discover Roman remains and the famous Mezquita Mosque-Cathedral.

Two nights in glorious Granada

Taking the train south to the brooding city of Granada you’ll discover the mountainous region of Andalusia , ruled by the Moors from the 8th–15th centuries. The Sierra Nevada mountains are the Iberian Peninsula’s highest massif and are renowned as the Moors last stronghold before they were driven out of Western Europe.

They left behind an incredible architectural legacy. Granada’s hilly old streets are overlooked by the lavish Alhambra palace and Generalife Gardens, perhaps the finest example of Moorish design.

Granada is a city steeped in history, but this hasn’t stopped it embracing modern Spanish culture with aplomb. The blend of old and new is what makes a stay at the Hospes Palacio de los Patos so special.

The hotel is split across two buildings, one a renovated 19th century palace and the other a striking modern construction. The interior is bright and airy, and rooms in the older part of the hotel contain beautiful features such as plasterwork ceilings, Doric columns and friezes.

Granada is a city with more than its fair share of beautiful buildings and stunning architecture. The luxurious AC Palacio de Santa Paula occupies the former Santa Paula Convent which has been lovingly restored to offer guests a relaxing retreat bursting with character.

The hotel is centred around a beautiful courtyard with elegant stone arches and palm trees, the delicate tinkling of the fountain in the background. It also houses the tombs of the nuns from the convent. Admire it from the wraparound balcony on the first floor, complete with 16th century frescos, or sink into one of the chairs and enjoy it illuminated at night.

Exploring Granada and surrounds

The Alhambra

The lavish Alhambra is Granada’s most visited site. Once a palace and fortress for the city’s Muslim rulers, the Alhambra means ‘red fort’ and is named after the red clay used in its construction in the mid-13th century. The Generalife was the country residence of the Nasrid king and the recreational courtyard and its beautiful gardens sit on the slopes of the Cerro del Sol, offering spectacular views.

El Caminito del Rey

If you’re feeling adventurous, spend an afternoon walking El Caminito del Rey, a path following a canyon carved by the river Guadalhorce. It’s commonly known as El Caminito del Rey because it was first opened by King Alfonso XIII in 1921 in celebration of the inauguration of the nearby dam. The walkway is three feet wide, rising one hundred metres above the river below, and is not  for  the faint-of-heart. Trekking the whole path takes about three hours, a fantastic opportunity to take in the surrounding nature and crimson cliffs.

Soak up the atmosphere in Seville

The jewel in the Moorish Caliphate of Cordoba and the capital of the most powerful Castilian Kingdom, sunny  Seville  has been left with eye-popping architecture and majestic grace. While Seville reached its peak in the 17th century and then suffered terribly in the Spanish Civil War, today it has resurrected itself as the capital and largest city of Andalusia.

You’ll spend three nights here to experience the true essence of Spanish grandeur.

The old centre is dominated by the towering mosque turned awe-inspiring cathedral – one of the largest in Europe – the beautiful Alcázar palace complex and the General Archive of the Indies, once the centre of the Spanish Empire. From here, narrow streets and buzzing squares brimming with century-old bars, restaurants and shops make it a great city for long nights out alongside the locals. You’ll also attend an evening of flamenco and a hands-on cooking class.

Steeped in history, the Hotel Alfonso XIII was constructed by order of the King as luxury lodging for the international VIPs attending the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition.

This grand structure quickly became an emblem of the city centre and has been continuously used as a hotel until the present day, although Franco’s regime necessitated a name change to the Andalusian Palace while under his rule. To this day, you’ll find that it is the city centre’s only true, luxury property.

Typically Andalusian in style, the hotel expresses the region’s mixed Moorish and Castilian founding influences with authentic and detailed features. Each of its 151 bedrooms including its 19 suites are unique in design, falling into three style categories: Andalusian, Moorish, and Castilian.

In terms of location, you’ll find that you really couldn’t be better placed to discover Seville. Hotel Alfonso XIII sits right on the edge of the old – pedestrianised – quarter, meaning that you can benefit from arriving to the hotel by car and walking five minutes to outstanding historic sites such as the Cathedral de Seville, the Alcazar, Puente de S. Telmo, and Plaza de Espana.

A thrilling flamenco show

Flamenco is the traditional song and dance of Andalusia and was developed over hundreds of years before becoming popular in the 19th century as a form of café entertainment. There are three parts to every flamenco show: ‘grande’ or ‘hondo’ with intense, profound songs; ‘intermedio’; and finally ‘pequeño’, lighthearted songs about love and nature.

A hands-on Andalusian cooking class

Meet your host, Amelia Gomez, before beginning this hands on class where you will cook and taste some of the most famous dishes of Andalusian cuisine. Enjoy the traditional salmorejo, beetroot and avocado cream and Spanish omelette or fried aubergine with honey. You will learn how to prepare Paella with saffron, vegetables and chicken or seafood.

Relax on the Portuguese coast

Continue westward into  Portugal  for a couple of days relaxing on the sands of the  Algarve . Sitting right at the foot of the country, the Algarve is one of Portugal’s most popular coastal destinations and home to some of its loveliest beaches. West of Faro you’ll find golden sands and hidden coves, with the coastline getting wilder the further west you head. This is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy life by the sea.

You’ll stay at a beautiful little resort with a restaurant overseen by the country’s most highly decorated chefs.

Perched above the blue Atlantic and surrounded by evergreen gardens and fronted by a beautiful stretch of sandy beach, Vila Joya is striking family-run boutique resort.

Peace and quiet in Alentejo

Covering almost a third of the country, rural Alentejo is a vast region of cork plantations, wheat fields, vineyards and clusters of historic hilltop towns. Its name means beyond the Tajo, and it stretches south from the River Tajo to the northern mountain ranges of the Algarve.

Alentejo is littered  with  Roman ruins, crumbling Moorish castles, marble towns and whitewashed villages. You’ll also find beautiful Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture in the UNESCO ‘museum city’ of Évora.

A short drive from the centre of Evora, Convento do Espinheiro is a historic hotel located within a 15th-century convent.

The chapel, cloisters, and extensive grounds create a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere and 92 rooms can be found in both the old building and modern annex.

Divinus Restaurant is located within the ancient wine cellar, and the high vaulted ceilings and flagstone floors really give the feeling of stepping back in times. Start in the main square Praça do Giraldo, where you can see the 16th Century St. Anton’s Church and the Henriquina Fountain. The Gothic and Manueline architecturally influenced Church of St. Francis is a pearl of its own with its golden altars, as well as the Capela dos Ossos – the Chapel of Bones – the entire room covered with  human  bones and skulls built by Franciscan monks. Évora’s Cathedral is by far the most dominating site in the whole town and the largest cathedral in Portugal. Two nights exploring Lisbon

Europe’s second oldest capital, Lisbon is an effortlessly elegant city, full of old-world charm. Winding your way through the streets, you’ll pass rows of houses in warm shades of orange, yellow and rust red. Washing is strung from wrought iron balconies and window boxes overflow with flowers. Weaving their way through this pretty patchwork are the city’s trams: a great way to hop between the different districts.

Lisbon has plenty to offer, with a plethora of museums and galleries as well as beautiful buildings covered in iconic azelujo tiles. The  city  is built on seven hills, each one offering spectacular views over the city and the River Tajo. It is also known for its lively restaurant scene. Our trip was beyond our expectations!

Our trip was perfectly organized. The hotels were fabulous, the guides for our tours were beyond our expectations, and every single aspect of the trip was carefully planned. The only hiccup that could have affected us (a strike by the Italian Rail Line) was handled and we were rescheduled within hours. Argentina Trip

We used Jacada to help plan a trip to Argentina. No one in our group had ever been to the country and Jacada's expertise and experience proved extremely valuable. Vietnam Cambodia trip of a lifetime

Knowledgeable agents who were very familiar with the cities and sites we wanted to visit. Well developed itinerary. Travel arrangements were flawless, with punctual and informative drivers and tour guides. Hotel accommodations were outstanding. Itinerary included some flexibility on what we wanted to do once we arrived at our destinations. Communications between travel agents and us were timely, informative. Jacada did a great job on our Argentina trip

Buenos Aires: 4 days/Alvear Palace Hotel El Calafate: 2.5 days/Eolo Iguazu Falls: 4 days/Awasi Buenos Aires: 1 day/Alvear Palace Hotel Our experience with Jacada was an A+ every step of the way. Lily and Melanie worked with us prior to the trip in every detail of the planning. They asked great questions about our interests and what we were hoping to focus on during our time in Argentina. They arranged all of our guides and Argentina flights, restaurant reservations and accommodations. All of our guides were informative and on time and were already aware of our interests and itineraries. Monica, our main contact and transport guide in Buenos Aires was amazing. She escorted us through the airports from the car through the check-in process all the way to the security points making sure the luggage destinations and flights were correct. She pointed out restaurants near the hotel that turned out to be our “go to” places to eat near the hotel. Fervor, just around the corner is even a Michelin mention and well worth going to. The number of days in each place was just right. We had enough time to learn from our guides and also have some time on our own to explore or just relax in the most beautiful lodges. I would highly recommend a repeat of our itinerary and using Jacada for anyone who wants to get a great first experience and an overview of Argentina.

Vietnam Tour

The Jacada team did a great job planning our Vietnam trip. They selected nice upscale hotels, the guides were experienced, informative, professional with good English language skills and the tour activities sites we visited as selected by the Jacada team were good, interesting and varied and included some non-traditional choices (such as Vespa riding in Ho Chi Minh City) that that were some of the highlights of our trip. The Jacada team added a personal touch by staying in touch during our tour, leaving notes, adding surprises such as complimentary massages at two of our stops and arranging a birthday cake to be delivered to the room for the birthday of one of our group. We plan to use Jacada to plan future trips and will be recommending Jacada to our friends.

Ellie put together an exciting itinerary with all the sights that I needed to see. Staying at the hotels for at least 3 nights kept the fatigue to a minimum, and all the hotels were terrific with comfortable beds and climate controlled rooms. The breakfasts were wonderful with great fresh fruit and tasty pastries. The guides were always on time and escorted me as far as they could in the airports. In all, it was a terrific trip!

A Luxury Trip to Costa Rica

We requested an itinerary to see the Costa Rica wildlife. Jacada designed our trip to maximize our sightings with stays at wonderful properties. Meg and Rita put together a trip to Portugal on very short notice for my husband and me. Every moment was special. We loved every driver, every guide, every hotel stay, all the restaurants, and so much more. We do not have any criticisms, only positive remarks. Our time in Lisbon was extremely enjoyable. Next we stayed in the Duoro Valley and it was very peaceful and beautiful. Our final stay was in Porto. Porto is a culturally rich city. Perfect, well balanced, culturally rich Family Vacation of a lifetime

We went to Marrakesh, Essaouira and Oualidia with Jacada. Our only regret was not having had more time to spend in Morocco. It was absolutely magical. James from Jacada must have been able to read our mind putting the perfect vacation together, which not only the adults but also our 6 and 10 year old boys enjoyed. Everybody we came in contact with was absolutely professional, kind, flexible and kid-friendly. We always felt safe, well taken care of and in good hands. I usually do all my own travel planning…

I usually do all my travel planning independently but found myself desperately in need of time away, without the time to actually plan the trip. I did some research and settled on Jacada based on their other excellent reviews. I used Jacada to help me plan my first trip to SE Asia (Thailand, Laos and Cambodia for 2.5 weeks), which was also my first long solo trip overseas. Everything was seamless. Leanne, my travel planner, and Grace, my concierge, listened to what I envisioned for my trip and made it happen. I didn't have to think about a thing on my trip and it was a refreshing, wonderful experience! The local travel guides were great, especially in Thailand and Cambodia. I was treated to amazing experiences that were far from the typical tourist, crowded excursions and made me feel truly special. It wasn't cheap but you really get what you pay for and I feel it was worth it, a good value all things considered.

Meg and Rita put together a trip to Portugal on very short notice for my husband and me. Every moment was special. We loved every driver, every guide, every hotel stay, all the restaurants, and so much more. We do not have any criticisms, only positive remarks. Our time in Lisbon was extremely enjoyable. Next we stayed in the Duoro Valley and it was very peaceful and beautiful. Our final stay was in Porto. Porto is a culturally rich city. Every guide and driver showed up early and they were all very kind and very knowledgeable. We will definitely use Jacada again for any future trips.

Perfect, well balanced, culturally rich Family Vacation of a lifetime

We went to Marrakesh, Essaouira and Oualidia with Jacada. Our only regret was not having had more time to spend in Morocco. It was absolutely magical. James from Jacada must have been able to read our mind putting the perfect vacation together, which not only the adults but also our 6 and 10 year old boys enjoyed. Everybody we came in contact with was absolutely professional, kind, flexible and kid-friendly. We always felt safe, well taken care of and in good hands. I usually do all my own travel planning…

I usually do all my travel planning independently but found myself desperately in need of time away, without the time to actually plan the trip. I did some research and settled on Jacada based on their other excellent reviews. I used Jacada to help me plan my first trip to SE Asia (Thailand, Laos and Cambodia for 2.5 weeks), which was also my first long solo trip overseas. Everything was seamless. Leanne, my travel planner, and Grace, my concierge, listened to what I envisioned for my trip and made it happen. I didn't have to think about a thing on my trip and it was a refreshing, wonderful experience! The local travel guides were great, especially in Thailand and Cambodia. I was treated to amazing experiences that were far from the typical tourist, crowded excursions and made me feel truly special. It wasn't cheap but you really get what you pay for and I feel it was worth it, a good value all things considered.

20th Wedding Anniversary Trip with…

20th Wedding Anniversary Trip with Jacada to Maldives. Kate and Gilda did an excellent job helping us plan for this special trip. The advice and execution were both top notch. Ultimately we chose Six Senses in the Maldives and split our time between a Beach Villa with Pool and the Overwater Sunset Laamu Villa with Pool. Both villas were special in their own way. The staff and service were also top notch. This is our second trip with Jacada after using them for a trip to Bali back in 2018. We will certainly be planning more.

Once in a lifetime trip to Italy

From start to finish, everything was taken care of. The choice of accommodations was amazing. The guides were all really knowledgeable and friendly. The drivers the same. Every transport was prompt. The couple times we had to call the on site number for assistance, it was answered immediately and our concerns addressed. I have booked several trips with Jacada…

I have booked several trips with Jacada Travel and they have all been exemplary! They helped advise me of places and activities that I may not have thought of and they coordinate all in-country travel making it very easy to get around. The guides they have arranged for us have all been very knowledgeable and helpful with learning about the culture and people of the places we are visiting. They also find the most unique and special accomodations- from special lodges to boutique hotels that most people wouldn't know about. Each travel advisor specializes in an area that they travel in and know personally so they offer a unique perspective. Overall I am very pleased with Jacada Travel and Keith Jarmon, our latest travel advisor to Indonesia.

Two amazing weeks in Greece

Iceland Christmas trip

My family of 4 adults (2 adult sons) went to Iceland over the Xmas holidays from 12/21/23-12/27/23. The trip was outstanding! One of the best trips we have had as a family. There is so much to see and do in Iceland especially if you are looking for “action/adventure” type of activities, and especially in the winter. The country is also breathtakingly beautiful. Jacada was great in helping to organize the trip which was done somewhat 11th hour (in late October) and in the midst of an active volcano. The travel coordinator and concierge (Meg and Anna) were extremely organized/knowledgeable/easy to work with throughout the entire planning process. They made great recommendations on hotels , activities, and restaurants. They also promptly answered all of our questions re the volcano situation, worked to assure us that the trip would be safe, and made necessary adjustments before and during the trip when certain areas (like the Blue Lagoon) were closed. Our guide, Svenni, who was with us as guide/chauffeur the entire trip, was outstanding! He has a HUGE personality, tells amazing stories, has a great playlist to listen to while traveling, and knows Iceland inside out. We called him the “jewel of the trip” he was so accommodating, knowledgeable and pleasant to be with. The four of us agreed that we would definitely like to return to Iceland in the future and would definitely consider using Jacada again as a trip organizer on future trips.

As with real estate, the first three rules for a great vacation are location, location, location. For the type of travel we do there’s a fourth rule; fantastic guides! Jacada did a wonderful job arranging a mostly carefree holiday for us and the Explora guides and lodges in Chile and Bolivia were outstanding! “Luxurious necessities, no accessories” is their motto and they delivered quite nicely. The Altiplano is a surreal place, every bit as striking as Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. Having guides who help put context behind what you’re seeing, smelling, hearing and eating makes the whole trip come together. Three things we should have done differently: (1) Don’t wait to schedule your Yellow Fever vaccine. It isn’t like a flu shot. You can’t just get it from your local GP. You need to go to a travel medicine location and they aren’t open every day. (2) Bring 2 copies of all the paperwork you’re told to bring for your visa in Bolivia, one set for each person. — Passport - 2 extra passport photos - bank statement - travel itinerary - yellow fever vaccination record - $160 in very crisp, nearly new bills - most important and hardest to find, the visa application itself. Getting a visa at the border may be straight forward for some nationalities, but it is absolutely NOT easy for Americans. Better yet, start a month ahead of time and work through one of the Bolivian consulates in the US. (3) Do not underestimate the altitude. We live at sea level so we took Dimox ahead of time and planned on two days at 8000 ft to acclimate. We should have planned on 4-5.

Don’t leave home without them

Amazing, curated travel planning. The more we use Jacada the better they know us = a progressively more personalized trip each time. They have experts for each continent and consequently there is a wealth of personal knowledge which goes into the planning of every journey. (On occasion, right down to which *room* on a particular ship is the best to stay in!!) I cannot emphasise enough the peace of mind I experience when travelling with Jacada. Every airport or land transfer, every local phone number provided in case of emergency and the responsiveness when even a minor problem arises is second to none. I can totally recommend Jacada without a moment’s hesitation and personally cannot imagine planning a trip without them now.

Loved Ecuador, thank you David

I worked with David in mid-2023 to plan a trip at the end of the year. I started thinking about Belize but as I thought more about it and described things I like to do, David and I agreed on Ecuador. I asked David to help me plan a trip on 3 pillars: culture, great food, and some physicality. David suggested Quito, followed by the Amazon (Napo Wildlife Center), and back to the highlands (Hacienda Zuleta). My trip culminated in three very different, immersive, and wonderful experiences. I did not have time to go to the Galapagos but when I am ready, I will contact David to help plan my trip. I highly recommend David and I will definitely work with Jacada in the future.

From the jungles of the Amazon to the beaches of Rio

As returning Jacada customers, our Brazil trip was a spectacular 22 day adventure that took us from Sao Paulo, to the Falls, to the Pantanal, to the Amazon, and Rio. Everything from pre-planning to execution and all things in between were handled flawlessly as Charles and Melanie created an outstanding itinerary with a good pace, locations, guides, and accommodations. Trip of a lifetime to Singapore & Indonesia

This was our second trip with Jacada, this time 2.5 weeks to Singapore and Indonesia, and it was simply incredible. Our travel designer and concierge, Ellie and Cathy, were both amazing and carefully designed a unique trip tailored to our interests and goals, sprinkling in some creative and thoughtful surprises throughout the trip. The trip culminated in a five-day private yacht chartered by Jacada through Komodo National Park. Once again, Jacada opened our eyes to new possibilities for luxury and travel that we could not have even imagined. We are already dreaming about our next trip with Jacada.

Fast and Fabulous Tour of Australia

My husband and I really enjoyed our Australia Whistle-Stop tour! Ellie did a fabulous job organizing it and allowing us to experience Sydney, The Blue Mountains, GBR and the Daintree Rainforest in 8 days. The private tours were top quality as were all of our accommodations especially The Chalets at Blackheath. We had an amazing tour by Tim and a picnic breakfast with the Kangaroos! Zip-lining in Daintree was another highlight of our time in Australia. It was well organized, very informative and a fabulous way to travel. We highly recommend Jacada for a stress free, personalized vacation!!!

Jacada does great job on Chile trip

My adult son and I traveled to Chile in January 2024. Jacada, really Jen Richt, had this wired from the start. Great planning. Wonderful choices of lodges, great activities etc. The logistics were good, not perfect - they never are, and when there was a hiccup, Jacada jumped into the breach and fixed it. My second trip with Jacada (first to Africa with a partner agency was not nearly as good) and definitely not my last.
