Kwik Trip Rewards program fully restored, members to receive double visits until Nov. 5

(WSAW) - On Monday, Kwik Trip announced the Kwik Rewards program has been restored and is fully functional. Members can now access rewards in-store and through the Kwik Rewards mobile app and website to view and manage their rewards account.

A statement to members said, “We understand over the last two weeks you may not have been able to redeem or accumulate rewards and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this may have caused. We are committed to making this right with you.”

Any cards that were swiped during the outage have received the proper credits for those purchases. The rewards associated with those purchases have been updated on your account as of Monday and are available for you to use.

Through Nov. 5, members will be receiving double visits for every purchase in-store or at the pump. Visit earning is limited to one visit plus one bonus visit every 30 minutes.

There were several instances where you may not have been able to swipe your Kwik Rewards card or your Kwik Rewards card was not accepted during the outage. To account for this, Kwik Trip will be awarding all members bonus visits based on their average weekly visits prior to the outage. These visits will be applied to your account within 24 hours along with additional bonus visits as a thank you for your patience. Once applied to your account, you will receive a push message and email notification if you opt in for these communications. If you are not opted in, you can verify the bonus points through your visit balance in the app or at KwikRewards.com .

A 'cybersecurity incident' caused the recent outage to some of Kwik Trip's systems, company says

It appears that a "cybersecurity incident" was the root of the recent "outage" to Kwik Trip's rewards program and some of the company's other systems , according to a Thursday update from the popular La Crosse-based convenience store chain.

"The incident was detected within hours and mitigation efforts began immediately with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts," John McHugh, vice president of external relations, said in the statement.

There is "no indication" that customers' payment card information was involved, the statement said.

The outage began Oct. 9 as customers realized their Rewards cards weren't working. On social media, Kwik Trip got many questions and complaints from customers.

Earlier this week, Kwik Trip said Kwik Rewards Plus credit and debit cards are functioning and that cardholders "can expect their in-store/fuel discount to be awarded in the form of a statement credit when systems are fully restored." It added that it'll resolve and correct potential late penalties.

As of Thursday, Kwik Rewards was back online and processing loyalty transactions at many stores, per the statement. The rest of the stores are expected to regain this function within the next few days.

But, the Kwik Rewards app will remain down for now, as will the company's website.

Members will be notified when these return, and will also be informed of plans to restore any missed rewards that resulted from the outage, the statement said.

Throughout the outage, Kwik Trip said, it never stopped accepting credit and debit card payments.

In addition Kwik Trip's loyalty program, other systems that were impacted by the incident were ones related to La Crosse productions facilities and communication systems within the company, the statement said. As of Thursday, most internal systems were functioning.

A forensic investigation into the nature and scope of the incident is in its early stages and is expected to take time, according to the statement.

"Once again, Kwik Trip appreciates your patience and understanding as we bring back full operations," the statement said.
