For FY2017 (fiscal year/season 2016-2017 September 30) the cruise port reported a record year with over 5,3 million cruise passengers - the world's highest-ever number. In 2017 started works on "Terminal A" (completed in November 2018). Viking OCEAN made inaugural visits in November 2017 with Viking Sky (Nov 12) and Viking Sun (Nov 17). Among the Port's most famous newcomers in 2018 were Carnival Horizon, Norwegian Bliss, Symphony OTS. In 2019 here was homeported MSC Meraviglia .

For season 2017-2018, PortMiami expected 5,3+ million passengers (4,9 million in 2016). The 6-million pax threshold was reached during season 2018-2019. Discussions on long-term agreements are ongoing with NCLH and Carnival Corporation . 2017's growth came from RCI-Royal Caribbean (~350,000 more). The number grew further after RCI inaugurated "Terminal A" (and homeported Oasis-class liners) and MSC inaugurated "Terminal F" (for Meraviglia-class and Seaside-class liners).

In 2017 started discussions for turnaround operations by vessels of Virgin Voyages  and NCL-Norwegian . However, Carnival Cruise Line remained the Port’s largest customer (2+ million passengers in 2017).

Various studies on LNG bunkering were conducted, regarding whether these operations (LNG supply to berthed vessels) to be land or water-side. The port expects to receive its first LNG-powered cruise liner in 2022.

On May 4, 2018, from Barcelona to PortMiami were delivered 2x large-sized "Seaport Passenger Boarding Bridges". The tailor-made (fully assembled) bridges were for the renovated "Terminal F’". Each of these 2-ton walkways is 4-sectioned (telescopic) and has length 32 m (105 ft). The bridges were designed by Adelte (Spain) and custom-made for "Terminal F" - to serve large liners with LOA length over 300 m (984 ft).

In late-October 2019 was approved the agreement for Brightline Miami to be rebranded "Virgin Trains" and Virgin Group to build a train station (Virgin Trains PortMiami) at the cruise port. The new station serves high-speed trains and connects PortMiami directly with the USA's intercity railway system (via Aventura, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach ) to Orlando International Airport. Brightline plans to expand the railway to Tampa  and  Jacksonville .

On August 31, 2020, Miami-Dade County' commission authorized the issuance of up to USD 0,5 billion in special obligation bonds, of which USD 335 million was designated for PortMiami and the rest going toward development projects related to the County's general fund.

• The approval came as cruising out of US homeports remained banned through October 1, and all major cruise companies suspended departures through October 31.
• Before the Coronavirus crisis (2020) paralyzed the cruise shipping industry, the County agreed to pay USD 700 million toward 7 projects - 5 new cruise terminals and 2 cruise company headquarters. Five shipowners (Carnival Corporation, NCLH-Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, MSC, RCG-Royal Caribbean Group, Virgin Voyages) agreed to repay USD 5,8 billion over the next 20-62 years.
• The biggest part of the USD 335 million in bonds (USD 130 M) was allocated for the building of the Virgin Voyages Terminal.

On November 15, 2022, RCG-Royal Caribbean Group signed a 36-year lease agreement that includes developing and exclusive operation of PortMiami's Terminal G.

• By the deal, RCG will construct a new facility (exclusive passenger terminal for ships of RCI-Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises) and will also redevelop RCI's headquarters (at PortMiami) which lease was extended through 2072.
• By May 2020, RCI spent ~US$70 million to upgrade its headquarters prior to halting construction works to mitigate financial losses during the COVID crisis.
• By the new lease deal (2022), Miami-Dade is now financing the RCI headquarters' completion as well as Terminal G's construction. In turn, Royal Caribbean guarantees a minimum annual passenger movement ~600,000 (during Terminal G's reconstruction), 1,5 million (following the completion/scheduled for 2027) and 2,1 million passengers annually (from 2038 to 2063). RCI also agreed to repay the cost of finishing its headquarters via increased rent and to pay back up to 53% (US$172,5M) of Terminal G's redevelopment costs.
• Terminal G's lease includes 3x 7-year renewal options, while RCI's headquarters lease has 2x 5-year renewal options.
• The deal also provided for RCI's shared use of Berth 10 Terminal (scheduled for completion in October 2028) - together with MSC.
• The 2022-signed agreement replaced the expiring in 2033. Reportedly, the lease will generate ~US$2,5 billion (from Terminal G) and ~US$260 million (from RCI's headquarters) and will create ~12000 permanent jobs, including ~1000 additional positions with RCI (+50% over 2022's staff count).

PortMiami is a major US seaport located on Dodge Island (Biscayne Bay, Florida). It is ranked the world's largest passenger port (serving both cruise and ferry shipping traffic). In 1997 was started USD 250 million port redevelopment project for facility upgrades and expansion in order to accommodate the industry's demands. PortMiami Tunnel was built 2010-2014, linking (via SR 836) directly the seaport with USA's interstate highway system, thus bypassing downtown's congestion. The list of berthed liners included Carnival Horizon , Carnival Magic , Disney Magic , MSC Divina , Norwegian Getaway , Oceania Riviera , Allure of the Seas , Empress of the Seas , and the high-speed catamaran San Gwann (FRS Caribbean - German company serving the ferry route Miami- Bimini Islands ).

Port Boulevard connects PortMiami with Downtown. This link is a causeway over the ICW (Intracoastal Waterway. ICW has length 3000 mi (4800 km) and runs along the USA's Atlantic (Eastern Seaboard) and Gulf of Mexico coasts (from Manasquan River NJ, around Gulf of Mexico to Brownsville TX). According to US federal law, ICW must be maintained at min-depth 3,7 m (12 ft). ICW is toll-free, but since 1978 commercial users (cargo barges) are charged a fuel tax, which is used for facilities maintenance.

PORTS provides real-time maritime data to vessel operators and harbor pilots, including information on currents (in and around port), water levels, waves, water salinity, bridge clearances (air gaps), visibility, winds (speed and direction), air and water temperatures.

On May 10, 2018, was officially opened Carnival's "Fleet Operations Center". The 35,000 ft2 facility allows simultaneous real-time monitoring of all ships in the fleet. The main feature is its 74 ft (22,5 m) long video wall composed of 57x LED screens. The data processed here includes itinerary information, current position, weather conditions, logistics, environmental status, guest operations. The interactive world map shows also the current locations of all Carnival Corporation ships (all brands). The center is staffed 24 / 7. The Corporation also owns similar monitoring centers in Seattle and Hamburg.

FY2018 (Sept 2017-Sept 2018) was another (4th consecutive) record year, with 5,8% growth in containerized cargo volumes (total 1,084 million TEUs) and 4,7% increase in cruise shipping (total 5,592 million passengers). Cargo shipping growth was attributed to the seaport's USD 1 billion investments in infrastructure improvements that allowed handling of Post-Panamax ships (with min draft 12 m / 40 ft). In 2018, the port handled over 250 such vessels, following a deep dredging project and the installation of Super Post-Panamax gantry cranes. Cruise shipping growth was attributed to expanded business opportunities (adding 3 new cruise companies - Viking Ocean, Seabourn, Victory Cruise Lines), extended homeport seasons and homeporting larger passenger liners.

In early January 2019, MSC signed with Miami-Dade County a letter of intent for expanding the company's PortMiami operations. The project's approval was received on Sept 19, 2019. By this project (completed in November 2023) MSC increased its annual capacity by building two (exclusive) cruise terminals (AA, AAA). The project included design, construction and management of the buildings (pax capacity 7000/28000 daily movements), berths (2 mega-liners), terminal parking garages, administrative offices, storage facilities plus infrastructure. MSC planned to homeport here several ships, including of the WORLD class (fleet's largest).

FY2019 (Sept 2018-Sept 2019) was again record-breaking for both container shipping (+3,4 % increase, to 1,12 million TEUs) and cruise shipping (+22% increase, to 6,824 million passengers). In 2019 were signed terminal development projects with Carnival Corporation, MSC, NCLH-Norwegian, Virgin UK, CMA-CGM (for Terminal Link Miami). The port generated ~USD 7,8 billion (economic impact) and supported ~27,500 South Florida jobs.

In FY2019, the cruise port handled 6,823816 million passengers, providing 27500 jobs and contributing ~USD 7,8 billion to the state's economy.

In February 2021, Miami-Dade County signed a deal with FPL-Florida Power & Light Company (subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc) and 6 major cruise companies (Carnival Corporation, RCG-Royal Caribbean Group, MSC, NCLH-Norwegian, DCL-Disney, Virgin) for funding the Shore Power Pilot Program ( shoreside power capabilities at cruise berths). In May, the program received USD 2 million funding by DERA Program (Diesel Emissions Reduction Act).

In February 2023  was subcontracted PowerCon AS (Hadsund Denmark-based engineering and manufacturing company specializing in electrical power conversions) to deliver 5x shore power systems for cruise vessels. For this particular project was established the subsidiary PoweCon USA. The cruise shore-power facilities are to be installed at four PortMiami cruise terminals - Terminal A (RCI-Royal Caribbean International), Terminal B (NCL-Norwegian and MSC), Terminal F (CCL-Carnival), and Terminal V (Virgin Voyages). When completed (2023-Q4), the combined shore-power system will be the world's largest.

April 9, 2023, was PortMiami's record-breaking day when were handled a total of 67594 tourists visiting on 8 different ships (Carnival Celebration, Carnival Horizon, Explorer of the Seas, MSC Seascape, Norwegian Encore, Oasis of the Seas, Seabourn Ovation, Scarlet Lady).

FY2023 (October 1st, 2022, through September 30th, 2023) became PortMiami's record year for cruise shipping, with handled a total of 7,299294 million passengers (~7% increase over FY2019).

Cruise itineraries to and from Miami Florida

Follows a list of destinations visited by ships leaving out of Miami:

• World Cruises - around the world voyages from Miami are offered in January, as well as shorter itinerary segments part of the main round-trip itinerary.
• South America itineraries from Miami are operated by luxury lines or by budget lines ships on relocation routes to Brazil ( Santos or Rio de Janeiro ) or Argentina ( Buenos Aires ). Round-trip itineraries usually visit ports in the Southern Caribbean, Brazil (often the Amazon River region), then go back to Florida.
• Bahamas itineraries from Miami visit Nassau (New Providence Island) and Freeport (Grand Bahama Island) , often combined with Florida ports (mainly Key West ). Major lines also include exclusive stops at their Bahamian private islands. These are Coco Cay (Royal Caribbean) , Half Moon Cay (Carnival, Holland America) , Princess Cays (Princess) , Castaway Cay (Disney) , Great Stirrup Cay (NCL Norwegian) .
• Short-break (3-day) cruises to Bahamas stop in Nassau. Some 3-day and most 4-day itineraries additionally include a private island stop, while 5-day itineraries add Freeport.
• Short-break (4-day) roundtrips to Mexico stop in Key West and Cozumel .
• 7-day Western Caribbean itineraries visit ports in Honduras, Belize, Mexico, also Grand Cayman Island (George Town) and Jamaica.
• 7-day Eastern Caribbean itineraries visit ports in BVI, USVI, Dutch Antilles, also Puerto Rico, Bahamas (Nassau) and the lines private islands.
• B2B (back-to-back) cruises combine two 7-day Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries into a 14-day roundtrip itinerary.
• 8-day Southern Caribbean itineraries visit Grand Turk Island , Dominican Republic, Aruba (Oranjestad) , Curacao (Willemstad) .
• Panama Canal transits  between Miami and California ports ( Los Angeles , San Diego , San Francisco ) are offered with one-way itineraries (up to 16 days in length). They include transition through Panama Canal and usually visit ports in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Mexico (Mexican Riviera).

Seasonal ship relocations (RepositionCruises.com) include Panama Canal transits from Florida to Alaska in late Spring. The itineraries end either in California ports or in the turnaround ports for Alaskan roundtrip from Vancouver BC or Seattle WA . The reverse routes (Alaska to Florida) are in early Fall.

Transatlantic crossings from Florida to Europe are offered in Spring. Relocation routes from Miami usually include the Canary Islands and Mediterranean ports, and often Bermuda (stopping at King's Wharf ). The longest relocation itineraries end in Baltic Sea turnaround ports ( Amsterdam , Copenhagen , Hamburg ).

Transatlantic crossings from Europe to Florida usually depart from the UK (Southampton, Dover, Harwich) or Mediterranean (Barcelona, Civitavecchia-Rome, Piraeus-Athens) and often stop in Bermuda (Kings Wharf).

Miami cruise terminal

Port Miami has been the "Cruise Capital of the World" and also "Cargo Gateway of the Americas" for many years. It kept that title for more than two decades and accommodated world's biggest cruise ships of all major passenger shipping companies. PortMiami lost the title in late-2000 to Port Everglades .

The port is situated in Biscayne Bay, Miami, FL on Dodge Island. There the Sam's Islands, the Lummus and the Dodge (famous historic islands) combine in one. The Port of Miami is related to four important projects &ndash: the Panama Canal expansion, the Port of Miami Tunnel, the bridge and rail line restoration and the Port of Miami Deep Dredge Project. The ship schedule offers voyages all the year. The Miami International Airport is 8 mi/13 km away, the Fort Lauderdale International Airport - 25 mi/40 km.

Port Miami has 9 terminals. Located at the Dodge Island north part are terminals B/C, D, E , F, G, on the west is terminal H (V) and on the south – terminal J. The most modern cruise terminals are D and E. They started to operate in 2007 and host mega-liners. The luxury market is operated by cruise terminal J - facility made to look like a boutique. All passenger terminals offer cafes, check-in, shops, bars and cab ranks. Multi-Agency Facility is available at terminals D and E.

• Terminal J (address "1120 Caribbean Way") Terminal J is primarily for docking luxury cruise ships from the fleets of Azamara, Crystal, Oceania, Regent. This terminal underwent a USD 3 million refurbishment which upgraded the furniture, more lounge seating was added, along with new check-in counters.

Terminals D and E are the newest (both open in 2007) and can berth the world's largest cruise ships with capacity up to 5000 passengers. Their buildings are 3-story facilities (sized 105,000 ft2 / 9750 m2. Each terminal has a VIP lounge, separate security screening facility (embarkation), airline counters, conveyor baggage system.

(expanded) MSC Terminal F

In December 2016 started construction works for renovating and expanding "Terminal F" to be able to homeport MSC Seaside in December 2017.

Miami-Dade funded the USD 38 million reconstruction project, which increased the terminal's capacity up to 6000 passengers. MSC Seaside has max capacity of 5179 passengers. Planned terminal enhancements included an expanded waiting area (1500 seats), larger VIP waiting area (exclusive lounge for "MSC Yacht Club" VIP passengers), new "group passengers" dedicated lounge, improved baggage-claim area, 60 ticket counters, also implementing the latest technology for faster passenger embarkation/debarkation process.

The 2-story terminal covers a total area of 3557 m2 (38280 ft2). The new terminal was officially opened/inaugurated on December 7, 2017, MSC Seaside's scheduled dock in PortMiami was on December 21, 2017.

On May 4, 2018, from Barcelona were delivered two large passenger boarding bridges. Tailor-made for "Terminal F’", each bridge is 2-ton and 4-sectioned (telescopic), with length 32 m (105 ft). They serve ships with LOA length over 300 m (984 ft).

(NEW) Carnival Terminal F

In September 2019, CCL-Carnival Cruise Line received approval for major expansion and renovation of "Terminal F". The upgraded (471000-ft2 / 43760-m2 sized) facility can handle the Excel-class vessel Carnival Celebration (homeported since November 2022).

The 2019-signed Carnival-PortMiami agreement included the company's commitment to homeport at Terminal F ships for 20 years, with the option of two additional 7-year lease extensions.

Carnival Terminal F's renovations officially started on January 29, 2021 (with the groundbreaking ceremony) and are scheduled for completion by October 2022. Terminal F's groundbreaking was attended by Christine Duffy (CCL's President) and Daniella Levine Cava (Miami-Dade Mayor), along with construction companies representatives and county commissioners.

Terminal F is PortMiami's 3rd cruise terminal dedicated to Carnival ships as well as currently the largest in North America.

(NEW) MSC Cruise Terminal (AA, AAA)

In July 2018, Miami-Dade County and MSC signed an agreement for extended preferential berthing rights and MoU for building a new "Cruise Terminal AAA" at PortMiami (company's exclusive homeport in the USA).

The new agreement extended the old (Saturdays) preferential berthing rights to Sundays as well.

MSC Terminal AAA (completed in October 2022) has capacity to handle MSC WORLD-Class liners (fleet's ever-largest, with passenger capacity 7000).

The 2018-signed MoU agreement received approval from Miami-Dade's Commissioners on April 9, 2019 and the deal was officially signed on September 19, 2019. MSC designed and started construction works on a large building (to serve its two cruise terminals - AA, AAA) plus two new berths. For the terminal's design was contracted Arquitectonica (global architecture, landscape and interior design company).

PortMiami's MSC terminals AA and AAA can serve 2 turnarounds/homeported ships simultaneously and have max capacity 28000 passengers daily.

On July 8, 2021, MSC and Fincantieri signed a contract for the construction of PortMiami's newest MSC Cruise Terminal. The project (valued ~EUR 350 million/~USD 414M) was signed by Pierfrancesco Vago (MSC) and Giuseppe Bono (Fincantieri).

The new MSC Terminal can handle three large vessels simultaneously (max daily passenger capacity 36000) and is fitted with shorepower connectivity .

The 4-story building houses office areas and has multi-level parking (min capacity 2400 vehicles), 4 passenger boarding decks, a new road connection, two new docks (berths with total length 750 m / 2460 ft) plus a 3rd berth (built/financed by Miami-Dade County).

The new facility was designed by Arquitectonica and built by Fincantieri Infrastructure. It is adjacent to Royal Caribbean's Terminal A. Construction works started on March 10, 2022, with scheduled completion and inauguration in December 2023.

Starting in 2025, MSC World America will be also homeported at the new terminal.

(NEW) Royal Caribbean Miami Terminal A

In September 2015, the world's second-largest cruise ship company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd/RCCL announced its plans to build a US$100 million terminal at PortMiami.

In June 2016, PortMiami leased 10 acres (0,04 km2) of land to RCCL to build and exclusively operate a dedicated terminal. Here are also homeported two of RCI's largest liners - Allure of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas .

The new "Terminal A" facility is sized 170,000 ft2 (15,800 m2) and is able to handle the world's largest passenger ships of the OASIS-class. According to the MoU (memorandum of understanding) between Royal Caribbean and Miami-Dade County, the Terminal's completion date was July 31, 2018. By the deal, RCCL leased the land and financed the whole project. RCCL was responsible for the Terminal's design and construction of the facilities (including parking garages with combined capacity 1000 vehicles).

The plans for the new Royal Caribbean terminal were approved by Miami's Board of County Commissioners on July 7, 2016. Under the agreement, RCCL fully financed the construction, except US$15M that PortMiami paid for infrastructure/road works.

Annually, Royal Caribbean pays Miami-Dade County US$7,5M in rent.

The project's value was estimated at USD 247 million for PortMiami - after taking into consideration up-front costs and annual rent for current cargo shipping purposes. For comparison, the Port's annual revenues are US$1,2M (from cargo activities) and US$9,5M (from cruise shipping).

Royal Caribbean is leasing the land for an initial 20-year period (until 2048) at base rent US$9,5 million per year (annual increase 1,5%). In addition to the base rent, Miami-Dade County receives US$5,50 per cruise passenger in excess of 1,55 million pax.

The new terminal building (nicknamed 'Crown of Miami') serves exclusively RCCL/RCG-Royal Caribbean Group-owned ships.

As of 2016, PortMiami handled ~750,000 Royal Caribbean passengers (per year) or ~15% of the Port's entire cruise traffic. The new terminal generates at least 1,8 million cruisers (or ~30% of the projected traffic) with estimated economic impact ~USD 0,5 billion. The facility generated ~4000 new local jobs.

Construction works started on March 8, 2017. RCCL later added to the project another building (named "Innovation Lab") that serves as the corporation's headquarters. Innovation Lab is sized 1860 m2 (20,000 ft2) and also hosts the company's ship design studio.

"Terminal A" was officially inaugurated on November 2, 2018. The opening ceremony was attended by Richard Fain (RCCL's CEO), Michael Bayley (RCI's CEO), Carlos Gimenez (Miami City Mayor), and Rebecca Sosa (Port Commissioner).

Until 2018, RCI represented annual capacity 0,8 million passengers (~15% of the Port's overall traffic). With the new terminal, this capacity was expected to increase to ~2 million.

(NEW) NCL-Norwegian Cruise Terminal B

On May 2, 2017, was announced that Miami-Dade County commissioners approved the agreement with NCLH/Norwegian Cruise Line Holding for a new terminal at PortMiami.

The facility has berthing capacity of two vessels (simultaneously), having 2 berths for large-sized vessels (up to 5000 passengers each). The facility was inaugurated in February 2020, with the arrival of Norwegian Encore (homeported here for winter 2019-2020 season).

NCL terminal's construction officially started on April 26, 2018 (ground-breaking ceremony). The project was officially approved on April 10th, and works started on May 1st, with planned completion in Fall 2019.

The new Terminal B's cost was estimated at ~USD 100 million. The facility incorporates PortMiami's existing terminals B and C into a single/new "Terminal B". 

Miami-Dade shares the county's parking and marketing revenues. The expected numbers for fiscal 2018 were ~US$180,000 (parking) and US$210,000 (marketing).

NCLH's new terminal was expected to generate ~US$24 million in gross revenue (starting FY2018), with an estimated increase of 3% each year. By the April 2018-signed agreement, NCLH guarantees Miami-Dade a minimum of 1,3 million passengers annually. The deal created ~160 new full-time jobs.

By the agreement, NCLH received preferential berthing rights at the new Terminal B. This means priority docking of vessels from the fleets of NCL , Oceania  and RSSC-Regent . The required minimum number of ship calls (per fiscal year) is 45, which is 15 more than the previous agreement.

The building's design is inspired by nautilus (marine mollusks of the cephalopod family Nautilidae). It features a spiraled, multi-level facade and open-floor interior.

The building is sized approx 166,500 ft2 (15,500 m2) and implements all modern technologies that support faster and more efficient passenger processing, as well as expedited security screening and luggage check-in.

The new Terminal B has a dedicated waiting hall, separate bar lounge, service area, new parking garage, valet parking area (accessing the building directly).

(NEW) Virgin Voyages "Terminal V"

On November 28, 2018, Richard Branson (Virgin Group's Founder) and Tom McAlpin ( Virgin Voyages ' President and CEO) officially announced the plans for a new/exclusive cruise terminal in PortMiami.

"Virgin Voyages Terminal" is a 3-story building (sized 100,000 ft2 / 9300 m2) located on PortMiami's northwestern side (address "718 N Cruise Blvd"). Approval for the project was given on September 20, 2019, with a subsequent berthing agreement deal.

Construction works started in October 2019, with scheduled completion in November 2021. The USD 150 million (~EUR 137 million) facility was officially renamed from "Terminal H" to "Terminal V". Virgin Voyages has brand's name on a for-profit train connecting Miami with West Palm Beach (via Aventura and Boca Raton). Virgin's cruise operations from PortMiami were planned to start in April 2020 with Scarlet Lady .

In late-October 2019 was approved the agreement for Brightline Miami to be rebranded "Virgin Trains" and Virgin Group to build a train station (Virgin Trains PortMiami) at the cruise port. The new station serves high-speed trains and connects PortMiami directly with the USA's intercity railway system and Orlando International Airport. Construction works on Virgin Trains PortMiami are scheduled for completion in 2022.

PortMiami's "Terminal V" was officially opened/inaugurated on February 13, 2022. The ceremony was attended by Richard Branson, Tom McAlpin and Daniella Levine Cava (Miami-Dade County Mayor).

Cruise ship terminal directions and parking

• From North - take I-95 South, drive eastbound I-395 (Miami Beach). Continue driving on I-395 East (MacArthur Causeway). The entrance of Port Miami Tunnel (Road 887) is on the left. Follow the signs to your Cruise Terminal.
• From North (via Downtown Miami / Port Bridge) - take I-95 South. Exit 3B-Bayside. Drive south to Northeast 5th Street, turn left. 5th Str leads onto PortMiami Bridge. Continue over the bridge and follow the signs to your terminal.
• From South - take SR-826 North to SR-836 East. Drive eastbound on SR-836 to I-395 East (Miami Beach). Continue driving on I-395 East (MacArthur Causeway). The entrance of Port Miami Tunnel is on the left. Follow the signs to your Cruise Terminal. You can also take I-95 North and drive eastbound I-395 (Miami Beach).
• From South (via Downtown Miami / Port Bridge) - take I-95 North. Exit at Northwest 2nd Street. Drive straight to NW 5th Street, make a right. 5th Str leads onto PortMiami Bridge. Continue over the bridge and follow the signs to your terminal.
• From Miami Beach - take I-395 (MacArthur Causeway), drive westbound, exit on Biscayne Blvd ramp and make U-turn on North Bayshore Drive to enter MacArthur Causeway eastbound. Then continue on I-395 East (MacArthur Causeway).
• Parking rates (subject to change) - USD 20.00 per day. All parking lots are outdoor and located in front their corresponding terminals. Special arrangements are offered for cruise passengers with disabilities.

Miami port, besides its 9 cruise terminals also has facilities to handle cargo ships (bulk carriers and container vessels) and dry dock facilities for marine vessel refurbishments and repairs.

What to expect on board the Norwegian Encore, the most Miami ship ever

From sipping craft cocktails to dining at restaurants you’d find in South Beach, feel like you never left home

Cruising from Miami is about the easiest vacation you can take—itineraries are frequent, cheap and highly accessible. The convenience of cruising is also what makes it an appealing escape for those who seldom take a break from work. It’s hard to turn down a short trip that costs about the same as a single night out in South Beach . And it’s even harder to say no to a getaway that feels like you never left home at all. Both can be said about sailing on the Norwegian Encore . It’s the newest ship from NCL’s Breakaway class and it features top-of-the-line restaurants, multiple bars and activities to keep you entertained well beyond tanning. As far as ships go, it’s the most Miami one we’ve experienced, down to dinner at the onboard Scarpetta—which is nearly identical to its sister location at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach . If you’re the type who gets homesick easily, this ship will ensure you never feel too far from home.

If you’re one of those healthy eaters who exclusively consume pasta before a marathon or while on vacation (treat yo’self!), you’ll appreciate the Onda by Scarpetta restaurant onboard Norwegian Encore. Now that you’ve held out for carbs this long, not just any spaghetti will do. You deserve a bowl of Scarpetta’s signature pasta with tomato basil—a mound of perfectly al dente noodles covered in chef Scott Conant’s famous pomodoro sauce. It tastes just as good as it does on dry land but without the pressure of having to run 26.2 miles the next day to earn it.

Feel like you’re at Soho Beach House

Miamians love their members-only beach clubs. We hate to schlep our umbrella and chairs, adore a comfy lounger and prefer to have our drinks brought to us on the sand. It’s true that most cruise ships offer such service, but the Encore goes the extra step on its private island, Great Stirrup Cay, with bookable cabanas and Silver Cove, a VIP area with a dedicated Moët champagne bar. You’ll need to pay extra to enjoy it but it’s so worth it for flowing bubbly.

Have all the drinks

Bar Lab, the brilliant mixologists behind Miami Beach’s Broken Shaker , put their spin on Encore’s extensive bar program—from the complicated mojitos served at Sugarcane to the craft cocktails you’ll try at the A-List Bar. They’re the reason you won’t get watered-down daiquiris or sugary mixed drinks made with bottled ingredients. Miami watering holes set the bar high and Encore manages to raise it with its cocktail offering.

Reminisce about Pubbelly

2019 was a tough year for Miami’s restaurant stalwarts as many of the city’s top establishments shuttered—including beloved gastropub Pubbelly Noodle, the inspiration for NCL’s Food Republic eatery that closed earlier this year in Sunset Harbour. The restaurant’s contemporary Asian menu lives on here with dishes like firecracker shrimp and dumplings. The restaurant also features a water view, one that has nothing to do with the rising tides and flooding that plagued the former South Beach spot.

Channel your road rage, responsibly

Unlike the bubbling stress you experience driving on I-95, sitting behind the wheel of a go-kart is actually enjoyable. On the upper deck’s speedway track, you’ll get to zip around a course with winding turns and sharp roundabouts and compete with your fellow passengers for first place. Second time on a cruise and Norwegian Encore has exceeded my expectations! It was more than I expected, and it was more than I can ask for. Such a great way to end the year! Where to start! We had no issues with any staff. We enjoyed the great, welcoming customer service. We respect all the hard work from the staff in attending to our needs, making our experience fun & exciting, cleaning up after EVERYONE, and making our bed every night. Even the public bathrooms & theater were ALWAYS clean. I commend the staff and workers on this cruise line. I don't know how they do it. Food was good! Don't expect Michelin-star food, people. They make this on the ship, for crying out loud. We had no issues with the food. Each complimentary restaurant/cafe was more than we anticipated and we enjoyed every meal we ate on the ship. So many bars! You can see everyone with a drink in their hand. There's always something to do! And there was more than one event going on! It was very overwhelming, in a good way! We ran out of lotion and I forgot a makeup accessory. No problem! They have a store to purchase those, along with other necessities you may need. The only thing that was a downer is that they did not sell bathing suits, so make sure you pack enough! It's been a while since the last time I went on a cruise, but I love how modern the interior of the ship looked! Again, we had such a great time and this is one of our memorable vacations. We just finished a 5-day family cruise. This was our second family cruise, but first time on Norwegian. Let's start with the good: We loved the layout of the ship. The design made it feel much less crowded than our previous cruise. Our stateroom was beautiful and spacious. There were lots of great activities going on at all times. The music provided by the djs was diverse. The shows (Kinky Boots and Choir of Man) were both fantastic!!! The childcare check-in and out process felt very secure. The spa was outstanding! We booked thermal suite passes for the week and definitely put them to good use. I liked not having to make reservations or choose dining times. We were free to come and go as we pleased. One of the major disappointments was in regards to the main buffet dining hall. My son is gluten-free. We alerted them to this in advance of the cruise. However, it was difficult getting clear answers about what was gluten free on the buffet. We constantly had to find the head chef to get basic staples like gf bread, buns, pancakes, and desserts. It was hit or miss as to what other staff members knew what we were asking for. Our previous cruise line had a dedicated gf section of the buffet. Also, it was difficult to know when the main dining area would be closing. It seemed inconsistent from day to day. Posted signs would have been helpful. On one of our port days, we returned to the ship, only to find that the dining hall was closed. Everybody was forced to go to one of the sit down restaurants which made for long waits. It seems like they should have taken this into consideration. We were also disappointed because both of our port stops were changed the day before they were supposed to occur. One of the reasons we booked this cruise was because of the ports. One of which was Norwegian's private island, which offered all you can eat free food and beach access. The disembarkment process was slow and inefficient. Thankfully we were driving and not under a time crunch. Ultimately we decided to give Norwegian one more chance because of all the things that went really well.

I have never had bed bug bites in my entire 52 years of life until I went on a cruise on Norwegian Encore 5/28/2023 I found all these nasty looking bug bites on my body on the third day of cruise and when I went to the Guest Service Desk, they sent a Pest Control Director to my room. He found a male bug after conducting some search. Please see attached photos so you know what they look like. I was disgusted to hear from one of the staff that they now have to find a female bug so they don't lay hundreds of eggs! I am still dealing with these marks long after the cruise and probably will for many years. Half of my cruise was wasted because I was dealing with mental anguish, physical suffering and pain. And this is the part where I felt like I was insulted. They offered me a $100 credit on onboard expenses. After I elevated the issue, they offered me $400 credit towards future cruise which I will never take. Not with them again. This is hardly any compensation. Beware, these bed bug bites are a serious matter. They are like cancer, once found in a room, there is no telling how wide or deep they have spread or migrated to other rooms, you can only hope. I never thought I would be this unlucky one. Getting bitten is one thing but the lack of any real compensation from Norwegian is pretty shameful. I am sharing my experience to raise awareness and hopefully help others avoid this traumatic experience.

Cruising is safe again. We've just completed a 7Day cruise to the Caribbean and had a great time with friends. Selected two fine dinings; LeBistro & Carney's. Both highly recommended. On board shows Kinky Boots & The Choir of Man were highly entertaining. US Virgin Island excursion was not too organized & a bit disappointing. But a visit to Puerto Plata was fun. Great Stirrup Bay is a good way to enjoy the beach & zip-line.

GREAT CRUISE - Terrible ending. Everything was perfect until my wife was notified during disembarkation that her card didn't work. No problem, we fix it but she stood in line for over an hour to get this fixed. They had ONE person fixing the problem for dozens of guests. Completely avoidable if handled before 5 out of 6 of us disembarked the boat AND if they had just one more person. Very frustrating end to otherwise a great cruise trip. Norwegian had been the best cruise line up until this point. We'll see if it gets another chance from my wife who is less forgiving than I.

We finally took our Caribbean cruise planed three years ago! NCL is taking every safety precaution imaginable; no one on board who isn't fully vaccinated and rapid testing at the dock before boarding. On board, masks area required anytime indoors (except when eating or drinking) and it's not optional like back home. The Encore normally has 4000 passengers; this cruise had 1400 with the crew outnumbering passengers. We've got to commend NCL for trying for some normalcy. Some ports were closed to ships, including St. Thomas where we chose our only excursion, so we chose to remain on-board and treat the boat as an all-inclusive resort! Between the food, drinks, sun, pools, more food, more drinks, and some casino-time, massages, and entertainment, we had a great time and are glad we didn't postpone any more! This was our first cruise and although we enjoyed it, we'll probably fly to an island the next time!

Another outstanding cruise with NCL. This was our first sailing since the pandemic and to say we were excited would be an understatement! We stayed in the Haven Area which is a ship within a ship. Yes, you do pay a premium to be in this area but when we go on vacation....we go on vacation. Butler service, private pool area, private sun deck area, dedicated bar and wait staff, private restaurant.....you get the idea. Unique to this ship was the show "Kinky Boots" which we found to be entertaining. The cast was excellent and the show was funny albeit predictable. Also unique was Onda by Scarpetta which is an Italian specialty restaurant. Some photos from here are included. We were not all that impressed by Onda or really any of the specialty restaurants this go round. Not sure if the crew was still getting their "sea legs" or what but outside of Cagney's and the Haven Restaurant the service was spotty at best. Our ship also visited the recently renovated private island of Great Stirrup Cay. NCL and their competitors each have a "private" island in the Bahamas that they use as a port for most Eastern Caribbean sailings. At GSC for short they have a new area called Silver Cove and WOW! This area is reservable ahead of time in your cruise planner and we loved it. We stayed in a Lagoon Studio Villa for the day. It was air conditioned, had a private bathroom, and the service was spot on. Our villa, #125, was located right next to the Moët Chandon bar, talk about clutch! If you book an NCL cruise and it's stopping at GSC do yourself a favor and book one of these villas for the day. We are already looking forward to our next NCL cruise this summer and would highly recommend them to anyone planning their next getaway!

I just got off a 7 day sailing to San Juan, St. Thomas & Tortola. This is Norwegian's brand new ship and it met almost all of our expectations. I would highly recommend cruising with NCL if you enjoy vacationing with no set schedule. There is so much to do on the Encore and you will simply never be bored. Dining: We went to Cagney's Steakhouse, Los Lobos Mexican & Qs Texas Smokehouse. I would highly recommend Cagneys if you're looking for a great tasting steak. You also need to get their signature truffle fries! Grab their cheesecake for dessert. Los Lobos was absolutely delicious and gives you a ton of food. The fresh made guac and carne asada were my favorites. I wouldn't recommend the buñuelos, but the chocolate flan was very tasty. Qs has some good food, but it was honestly nothing to write home about. Just your typical barbecue. It is a great venue with live music though. Entertainment: Top notch! Choir of Man was a lively and great show. It was all people could talk about during the cruise. You can even enjoy a few beers on stage before they start so get there early! I also very much enjoyed Kinky Boots. The concept may not be your "thing", but I highly recommend just opening your mind and enjoying the show. We also watched the comedy show and wished it wasn't so short. Funny guy and don't sit upfront if you don't want to be in the show ; ). Keep in mind you need to book advance reservations as all of the entertainment books up quick! Room: We booked a mini suite and I don't think I can cruise in anything less. The full size shower was a dream come true compared to the usual tiny ones. There was plenty of storage to unpack two large suitcases and stow away under the bed. The balcony's also have chairs that recline so you can see the view much easier. Service: I'm sure on a new ship that NCL did their best to get a top notch crew. We never waited too long for drinks and were even able to eat dinner in under 30 minutes one night. Do expect a wait at The Local if you are getting food late at night though. Shore Excursions: San Juan was a 5pm to 11pm stop so there's not many options in terms of shorex. We just walked around the city and grabbed dinner. It's completely safe to walk around and there was a good police presence. There's also a lot of shopping options open late. St Thomas and Tortola are your typical beach or sail type destinations. The Turtle Cove Sail & Snorkel in St Thomas did actually produce turtles so I would recommend. Long Bay Beach in Tortola was beautiful, but my first option (sold out) was to go to Jost Van Dyke. General: The pool deck is not that large so get there early if you want to grab a chair. Visit the Waterfront because it's an absolutely beautiful hangout spot. The Observation Lounge gives you amazing views towards the front of the ship. District Brewhouse has every beer you could want to try. Mojito Bar is a must..try the guava one. Enjoy!

I travel a lot. So keep in mind this type of travel is subjective. I had no issues with Norwegian Encore at all. The issues were with the passengers. This is a new boat and I was thrilled to be one of the first to experience it. When I booked my trip the boat was still being made. That's how new this is. Kelly Clarkson is the Godmother of Encore and Kinky Boots was one of the productions. I've been a fan of both for quite sometime. I am a fan of the Encore and this is why. No other cruise liner has a two deck go kart race track that edges off the deck of the boat. They also have a Roman Empire structure with a serpent type snake as the laser tag battle field to run around and shoot things. There's a Virtual Reality VR area which is hella fun. A starbucks is onboard. They have what's called an Observation Lounge which is larger than the fine dining area which serves light snacks drinks a piano player at times and floor to ceiling windows with a variety of seating facing the windows that is quiet and peaceful. Encore also got it right for solo travelers such as myself. This particular amenity and feature no other cruise line does. That being they have studio's available in a special section where only solo travelers can access. They hold their own events designed for solo travelers held in their own private area. They have an exclusive lounge which is nice. While all others overcharge solo travelers NCL has fair pricing for solo travelers which I applaud. That is fantastic. I didn't stay in the studio but my room was in close proximity. I was treated excellent by the staff. My stateroom was bigger then I anticipated. The bathroom and shower had a lot more room then my last cruise which was a nice surprise. Made new friends, met loads of people. I loved watching movies on the pool deck sailing around. The funnest was racing in the middle of the ocean against a guy from Germany. 11pm at night and we are zig zagging through the race track in single and double go karts. Going up and down the ramps and taking the turns like pros. Then later shooting at the Go Karts. Hella fun. Who gets to do this? No one I know. The weather is balmy and the moon is shining bright. The workers sang happy bday to me and gave me a large slice of a bday cake. I got a special drink card on the house for my entire trip. The check in and disembarkment was easy and smooth. Even the transfers were flawless. What I described above is what other cruise liners do not offer. Apart from what I mentioned Encore has the typical casino, art gallery, spa, gym, pool, specialty and complimentary dining. Luxury shops and photoshop. The lines for testing is extra long and I register for the testing and I never received the code from them so it can be faster and I been standing in line for a Covid test since 11:00 am . They need to be more organized this is ridiculous as for me not doing another cruise if they don't come up with a faster way

We've been assigned port arrival times of 10:30 and 12:00.   Can we enter terminal early if we get to the port before our scheduled arrival time?

Depends on who is doing the checking in and where at. Most of the time no one cares, but sometimes you are told to wait. Obviously no one can tell you which response you will encounter.

If you arrive too early before 10:30 AM, there is a good chance that the previous cruise passengers will still be leaving the ship and all port employees will be busy with departing guests or setting up to check in new passengers.

You will be lined up on the sidewalk waiting for terminal doors to open.

Yes you can enter early. The earliest time in Miami is 9:30 and the terminal is open before that. We arrived around 9:30 last week and there was a line to get in. 

Again, All depends on who you get at the entrance to the terminal checking paperwork, and also depends on how crowded the terminal already is. A lot of time they instruct the staff when not busy to let everyone in, other times if terminal is already busy they crack down on the check in times. Usually not always as long as disembarkation is going smoothly and there is no USCG inspection or other inspection they dont even look at the times.

This Norwegian Cruise sailing takes you on a bucket list adventure: What it's like aboard

F or Kylie Herd, an Australian passenger on Norwegian Dawn’s Feb. 25 southern Africa itinerary, cruising has been the best way to check places off her bucket list.

“I just go with whatever cruise line has the itinerary that I want to do at the time that I’m available. It tends to be Norwegian, and when I saw that Norwegian had all these African cruises, I just thought, ‘I’m going to spend summer in Africa,’ because it’s an amazing itinerary,” she told USA TODAY.

When it comes to cruising, most Americans probably think of bopping around the Caribbean or checking out the wilds of Alaska if they’re feeling especially adventurous, but that’s really just scratching the surface. Cruise lines are increasingly offering diverse itineraries including expedition cruises to remote parts of the globe and introductory sailings to help travelers explore countries and regions they might never visit otherwise.

Madagascar was the real draw for months of consecutive cruises on the Dawn for Herd.

“I’ve been trying to go to Madagascar for years. I always wanted to go there way before the movies ever came out. It’s one of those places that’s really difficult to get to,” she said. “When I saw Madagascar on a cruise itinerary I was like, ‘I have to do it.’ ”

Although the Feb. 25 sailing had to skip Madagascar for logistical reasons after a delay departing Mauritius, Herd said that she was able to visit the country earlier on her trip and that it was a real highlight.

Norwegian’s Africa itineraries had various changes and missed ports throughout the season. Passenger contracts give cruise lines some leeway to alter itineraries on short notice for reasons including weather or conditions on the ground that prevent ships from reaching or being accommodated safely in a scheduled port. Such changes can be especially common in regions prone to political unrest or that lack sophisticated port facilities.

Even so, Herd said she understood why passengers who missed out would be frustrated, but she encouraged her fellow travelers to keep an eye on the positive. “I understand the disappointment. I was disappointed, too, but we’re still having a great time.”

The Feb. 25 cruise still stopped at Reunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean, which has an active volcano, as well as ports in South Africa where travelers could spot local wildlife.

Safari from a cruise

Norwegian Dawn stopped at four ports in South Africa, three of which offered safari experiences as shore excursions.

▶ From Richard’s Bay, passengers could visit the iSimangasilo Wetland Park , home to elephants, rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, zebras and other classic African big game. The park is about an hour and a half drive from the port, and Norwegian’s shore excursion included two game drives, snorkeling and a traditional South African braai, or barbecue.

Just as cruise itineraries can sometimes be subject to last-minute changes, safaris are at the whim of wild animals. Sightings are not guaranteed, but patience and vigilance are often rewarded.

▶ In Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Norwegian Dawn’s passengers could visit Addo Elephant National Park, also about an hour and a half drive from the port.

As the name suggests, Addo is home to a huge and docile population of more than 600 elephants. These animals often congregate around watering holes accessible from well-worn safari tracks.

Even after a strong rainfall the night before the excursion, which allowed elephants to retreat into the bush and temporarily lessen their reliance on overtaxed wells, dozens of the creatures greeted visitors coming from the ship for two-hour game drives.

▶ In Mossel Bay, passengers could also access private game reserves, which often have a higher concentration of wildlife roaming free but can include animals that are not directly indigenous to the area.

Cape Town and the winelands

There’s more to Africa than safaris, and Cape Town is an especially good place to experience metropolitan life and other kinds of outdoor activities on the continent.

South Africa’s legislative capital offers excellent hiking, a great foodie culture, beautiful (if slightly chilly) Atlantic beaches, penguins and more.

For travelers willing to explore beyond the city, South Africa’s wine country is close at hand in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and many vineyards offer tastings and meal experiences. One Norwegian excursion took passengers to the Blaauwklippen wine estate in Stellenbosch, which is best known for its Zinfandel.

Is an Africa cruise worth it?

From a financial standpoint, a cruise around Africa can be an excellent way to explore. For American travelers, however, flights to and from the ship are often more expensive than the cruise itself.

For example, a 13-day Norwegian itinerary that begins in Cape Town on Dec. 7 and ends in Mauritius on Dec. 20 has prices that start at $899 per person for an inside stateroom, but flights can be well over $1,000 round trip. The current cheapest itinerary from Detroit, for example, is a 42-hour slog on multiple airlines via Montreal and Dubai to Cape Town. The return trip is a bit shorter, at 31 hours, also via Dubai and Montreal. That routing would cost $1,694 per person in economy as of March 18, according to Google Flights.

Logistically speaking, though, it can be much easier to book a cruise and rely on the line’s shore excursions to expand one's horizons than to coordinate one's own safari.

“With multiple diverse ports of call within one coastal continental area, our Africa voyages provide our guests the opportunity to explore lush rainforests or volcanoes, experience captivating wildlife tours, learn about the rich culture on the South African coastline, indulge in Cape Town’s incredible wine regions, and so much more,” Brian Gilroy, vice president of revenue management and itinerary planning for Norwegian Cruise Line, said in a statement to USA TODAY.

The one thing to keep in mind is that the African cruise market is less mature than the Caribbean – at many ports, there just aren’t comparable facilities to handle big ships. That doesn’t mean the cruises can’t or don’t happen, just that sometimes the operation is a little less fluid than the well-oiled Miami machine.

“Our 11- and 12-day cruises start and end in either Cape Town, South Africa, or Port Louis, Mauritius, and include an overnight stay in one of those magnificent cities, giving our guests the chance to fully explore what these regions offer. The variety of adventures our guests can experience in these destinations are endless, which makes for a truly unforgettable cruise experience," Gilroy said.

Travelers may be more likely to encounter a hiccup on their Africa cruise, but that’s all part of traveling to a new and exciting place. A missed port or an extra sea day can be a great time time to take stock, focus on the highlights, enjoy the experience of unlocking a new destination, and maybe take another sip of the wine your onboard sommelier recommended.

Just take a page out of Herd the Australian’s book. Despite some schedule changes, she said, “I’ve loved every single thing.”

With more room than its two sister ships, Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest vessel will feature several new and redesigned dining options when it arrives at Port Canaveral next spring.

Norwegian Aqua is the first of what the line is calling its Prima Plus class, 10% larger than 2021’s Prima and 2023’s Viva. The ship comes in at 1,056 feet long, 156,300 gross tons and a 3,571-passenger capacity based on double occupancy. That’s still smaller than the line’s popular Breakaway Plus class ships Escape, Joy, Bliss and Encore.

Still, the extra room means a shift of some returning venues found on Prima and Viva and the introduction of three new offerings.

At the top of the list is the line’s first dedicated Thai venue called Sukhothai, a specialty restaurant headed to Deck 17 with items such as Thai cashew chicken, salt and pepper prawns and Thai grilled steak salad. There also will be a variety of curries. The venue’s design comes from SMC Design firm out of London aiming to blend traditional and contemporary Thai elements, according to the line.

“(Guests) will be greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere of bamboo and rice paper pendant lights; a striking geometric patterned floor; and colorful furniture transporting diners to the culturally rich country of Thailand,” according to a press release.

It joins a pair of returning Asian fare venues, the Japanese hibachi Hasuki as well as relatively new offering Nama Sushi and Sashimi, which is found on both Prima and Viva, but will feature an updated look on Aqua. Nama’s design from NCL-favorite designers Studio DADO out of Miami will draw from Manga art.

“Guests can expect a playful dining experience surrounded by bold colors of lime green and black,” the line stated.

Planterie is a second new food offering that will actually be one of 10 cuisines to be offered at returning food hall concept Indulge Food Hall on Deck 8. The menu will be all plant-based bowls and other healthy options, the line’s first dedicated eatery with a full plant-based menu. Example items include the Southwest Bowl with smoked tempeh and the Mediterranean Goddess Bowl with spiced vegetables, tabbouleh and honey-roasted carrots.

Indulge Food Hall will get a design makeover by New York’s Rockwell Group going for deep wood accents and gold and metal furnishings. It’s one of the more popular and free options on board both Prima and Viva with both indoor and outdoor seating, and a reputation for getting cruisers their food fast. They sit down, order food using tablets from among all the available offerings such as Mediterranean tapas, barbecue and dessert.

Another new venue will be dedicated to wine. The Swirl Wine Bar also designed by Studio DADO will be “tucked away” on Deck 6.

“The hidden enclave will feature a comprehensive wine-by-the-glass menu, and an extensive list of rare and premium vintages,” the line stated. “The venue’s architecture is inspired by the captivating beauty and curvature of the geologically stunning Antelope Canyon in Arizona, with warm color hues complemented by cascading horizontal lines and serene blue touches create a perfectly inviting and enchanting space for guests to unwind.”

The sustainable-themed Metropolitan bar will be getting a new and larger home with new design as well, courtesy of Studio DADO. Moving from mid-ship to the aft on Deck 7, it will now feature a grand piano and small stage for live music with an art-deco design from mid-1900s New York.

Studio DADO is also reworking the complimentary dining space, the Commodore Room, with a more rustic sea-fairing theme.

“Paying homage to the imaginative narrative of the captain’s room, the venue will transport guests to the past times of maritime sophistication with antique wood furnishings; leather banquettes; floors that mimic the lines of a pier; and incredible stone accents, all with a delicate, modern touch,” the line stated.

Other venues getting makeover for Aqua include the Surfside Cafe buffet and Mediterranean seafood option Palomar as well as the Penrose Bar and Waves Pool Bar. The Whiskey Bar and Belvedere Bar are also migrating to new spaces on the ship.

The increased space also means more seating for Hasuki, The Local Bar & Grill and steakhouse Cagney’s.

The ship will also see the return of free venue Hudson’s with its 270-degree views as well as specialty venues French restaurant Le Bistro, Mexican restaurant Los Lobos and Italian restaurant Onda by Scarpetta.

Aqua will begin seven-night sailing of Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral beginning in April 2025 before migrating to New York in August and then back to Florida, but sailing out of Miami from October 2025-April 2026.

Among the ship highlights will be what the line says is the first hybrid coaster at sea, a digital sports complex and the first three-bedroom duplex suites for the cruise line in its exclusive area called The Haven.

Set to become NCL’s 20th ship in its fleet, construction continues at the Fincantieri shipyards in Italy, and it marks the first of four planned ships in the Prima Plus class through 2028.

NCL’s parent company recently announced it was also working to secure funding for what would be the biggest class of ship ever for the line at more than 200,000 gross tons with four ships on order from 2030-2036.
