True to its name it is a place to find bear scratches on trees, bear prints on the ground, and the Florida black bear itself. Drawing a heart into the bioluminescence.

Bioluminescence Kayak Adventure

Join us for this magical experience with the sparkling stars above and the bioluminescent glow below!

Responsible for the beautiful bluish-white flashes that occur when seawater is disturbed at night, is a small micro-organism called dinoflagellates. Seeing schools of fish or maybe a dolphin activate these tiny critters is nothing short of a miracle and belongs on everybody’s bucket list.

This bioluminescence kayak tour takes you out on the Indian River, where there are plenty of manatees, dolphins, and other marine life in the area. So chances are you will see some marine life up close and you can experience the magnificent light trails created by these animals in the water.

The best time to see bioluminescence is around the New Moon, when there is no moonlight reflecting on the water. However, the week surrounding the New Moon is still a great time to see the bioluminescence. You should plan well in advance if you plan to go on a New Moon night, or on the weekend as these tours sell out.

Emerald cut at kings landing.

Kings Landing is one of the best places to go kayaking or canoeing in Orlando. It’s a beautiful unique area with emerald waters, stunning views, and a peaceful feeling.

Located in Apopka about 30 miles from Orlando it’s one of the most picturesque springs in the state. Just so you know Kings Landing is a section of Rock Springs Run and the Emerald Cut is a section of Kings Landing. It can get very confusing.

Kings Landing is where you will find the kayak launch spot and you will need to go upstream to get to The Emerald Cut which is consistently rated as the number one paddle run in Central Florida. This 3/4 of a mile waterway is known for some of the best kayaking in central Florida.

Our advice is to get there early and make sure you have suncream and insect repellent. If it has been raining you also might want to call ahead as heavy rain sometimes turns the water brown which might not be what you are wanting.

For more tips and prices check out our article on Kings Landing Florida .

Withlacoochee River

The southern part of the Withlacoochee River is a designated “Outstanding Florida Waterway” and therefore the kayaking is wonderful. Originating from a green swamp it’s considered a blackwater river meaning it’s slow-moving and dark.

The designated paddling trails are 76 miles from Lacoochee to Dunnellon. The southern section near Nobleton is quiet, sheltered, and extremely scenic.

You can launch at Hog Island Recreation Area, south of Nobleton, Iron Bridge, Lacoochee, Silver Lake Recreation Complex, or the Little Withlacoochee River.

Check the water levels and conditions before you go, and be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks for the long paddle. Expect about an hour and a half drive depending on where you are going to launch.

A perfect place for kayaking in Florida. Withlacoochee River Florida Scenic Landscape.

The 7 best 3-day cruise itineraries for 2024.

Plan a long weekend getaway aboard a cruise for fun, scenery and entertainment.

The Best 3-Day Cruise Itineraries

The Carnival Radiance at sea.

Hop aboard the Carnival Radiance for a short but fun-filled cruise weekend.

Whether you're short on vacation days or you only have a long weekend to spare, three-night cruises offer a fun and affordable way to get a change of scenery. These shorter sailings from the U.S. often amount to a weekend cruise and only depart from Florida and California for now. However, short cruises still let you dine and dance on board, enjoy world-class entertainment, and visit nearby destinations like Nassau in the Bahamas; Key West, Florida; or Ensenada, Mexico.

If you're looking for short cruises that pack a lot of good times into a weekend vacation, you should know that many cruise lines offer these trips, including Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises. Read on to find out which short cruises we recommend, where they depart from, and everything you can see and do over the span of three incredible nights.
